Abusive Pakistani husband jailed in UK after false cricket contract claim
A Pakistani husband initially spared prison after telling a court he could lose the offer of a contract with an English county cricket club was jailed for 18 months on Friday.
But shortly after Mansell passed his original sentence, Leicestershire said they had never had any contact with Bashir, who was said to have hit his wife with a cricket bat and forced her to drink bleach
Bashir ...suggested there had been a “series of misunderstandings”.
He also denied telling his probation officer he had represented Pakistan at under-19 level
Bashir had last month given the court a letter from a sports agent claiming he “had a very bright future ahead” with Leicestershire.

But...he can only report six kids on the census form. Why is the paki establishment out to malign him? Hain?

New Police Uniform For Pakjabi Police Is Definitely Not "Islam Friendly"

Punjab Police to wear new uniforms from today
LAHORE: Almost 31,000 Punjab Police personnel have been provided with the new olive green uniforms which they will be seen wearing from today.
The Punjab government has decided to change police uniforms, a process which will be completed in eight phases. The uniforms of the Lahore police would be changed in the first phase, whereas the whole conversion would take 9 months. According to sources, the field staff would be distinguished by a different design than staff working in offices. They said that the Lahore police and central police would be given olive green coloured uniforms and that the field staff would be allowed to wear T-shirts and p-caps in the summers. While the Abduls are "encouraged" to go western and modern with the Sharia Compliant green (shades ) , there is obviously,( in spite of the recent celebration of Women's Day ) a double standard at play here . In keeping with the so-called Islamic modesty, and not to rouse the (erotic) feelings of the Paki male specimen, the Ayeshas will have to do with the traditional Shalwar Kameez

PS: Not sure if a stamp of approval has been obtained from the powerful Council Of Islamic Ideology !

Aamir Khan Stands Firm On "Dangal"

Pakistan's Censor Board has demanded that two scenes involving the Indian flag and anthem be cut
Actor-producer Aamir Khan has decided against releasing his Bollywood blockbuster "Dangal" in Pakistan after the censor board there demanded that two scenes involving the Indian flag and anthem be cut. Mobashir Hasan, Pakistan's Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) head, told IANS over social media: "Yes, the board unanimously decided to skip two scenes."Asked why the Indian flag and anthem needed to be cut, Hasan said: "The decision is the collective wisdom of the board."He added that it was now up to the local distributor -- Geo Films -- to release it or not. Subsequently, Aamir has decided not to release the movie in Pakistan, saying the demanded cuts were crucial to the spirit of the film, his spokesperson told IANS.
I would presume that the same action would be taken if the Bangladesh flag and the Bangladesh national anthem were involved , as both fall under the category of "preserving the Enchendee of Pakistan"

Bad News For Pakistan : Facebook Decides Not To Warn Paki Users About Hoaxes And Fake News

Facebook rolls out global warning against fake news
Beginning Friday, Facebook users in 14 countries including the United States will begin to see an announcement at the top of their news feeds warning them about hoaxes and pointing them to a series of tips to help them to detect fake news."(User), it's possible to spot false news," reads the PSA, under the legend "tips for spotting false news." "As we work to limit the spread, check out a few ways to identify whether a story is genuine."
The message, which disappears after users see it three times, takes users to a page on Facebook's help center with a few tips for spotting false news, including checking the URL of the site, investigating the source and looking for other reports on the topic.
The warning will be rolled out to users in the following countries: Germany, France, Italy, the UK, the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Myanmar, Brazil, Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Canada and the United States. One way of interpreting the exclusion of Pakistan from the list, is to conclude that the "wise men of Facebook" made an judgement that the users in Pakistan are so "tech savvy" in sniffing out internet hoaxes and fake news ( which pervades their on-line world) ) that there is no necessity to warn them of this danger.

Ahmedi Targeted ; This Time In La-Whore On Jumma Day 8)

Ahmadi doctor shot dead in Lahore’s Lalazar area
A veterinary doctor belonging to the Ahmadi community was shot dead by an armed motorcyclist on Friday in the Lalazar area of Lahore.
Ashfaq Ahmed, 68, was travelling in a car along with his nephew when an unidentified motorcyclist shot at point-blank range, killing him on the spot.
Police said it was too early to determine whether it was a faith-based killing or not. Police diplomatically neutral
On March 30, a prominent member of the Ahmadi community and relative of its first Nobel Prize winner was gunned down on Thursday in an attack claimed by banned militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.Malik Saleem Latif, a cousin of Abdus Salam, who shared the physics prize in 1979, was shot just yards from his home in the town of Nankana, near Lahore in the southern province of Punjab, said Saleemuddin, a spokesman for the Ahmadi community. In 2010, two simultaneous attacks on Ahmadi mosques in Lahore by the Pakistani Taliban killed 94 people. Three days later, militants stormed the hospital where survivors were taken, killing 12 people, mostly police and hospital staff.
Possibly, the Aam Abdul must have "worked himself up" following the Friday Khutba by the Imam !

80,000 unidentified bodies buried at Mawach Goth graveyard since 1986, Sind High Court told
Since 1986, around 80,000 unidentified bodies have been buried at a graveyard run by the Edhi Foundation in Mawach Goth, a police officer told the Sindh High Court on Thursday. The officer's disclosure came during the hearing of a petition related to missing persons being heard by a SHC division bench headed by Justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui.Petitioner Uzma Shahzadi submitted that her two sons, Maaz Ahmed and Talha Ahmed, were allegedly picked up by law enforcers on April 6, 2014 in Korangi area and their whereabouts were still unknown. Even if someone discounts the figures by 50% ( Sialkoti Statistics !), it is still a huge figure !
The police officer informed the court that since 1986, as many as 85,000 bodies were buried at the Mawach Goth graveyard. He said about 80,000 of them were still unidentified. He submitted that this figure only came from the records of the Edhi graveyard at Mowach Goth, while there were other organizations too that performing the same job. Any decent govt would have conducted an impartial and thorough inquiry and ensured that whoever the culprits are, they face quick justice ; but would have most likely involved the "Deep State " and other unsavoury characters employed by the Paki Establishment being implicated -and as N. S. Janjua ( NSA ) observed recently, Pakistan's "good reputation" would have been sullied
The court observed that a number of persons, who lost their lives in incidents like bomb blasts, were still unidentified. The court observed that the possibility could not be ruled out that some of the missing persons would have died in mishaps like bomb blasts. :(( (All talk no action . )
The court also took exception over non-recovery of missing persons who have been allegedly picked up by the law-enforcement agencies since April 2014. The court observed that it was quite alarming and surprising that law enforcers were not performing their duties for locating the missing persons. The court observed that the law enforcement agencies were just making reports to show their efficiency which was contrary to the facts as no progress had been made in recovery of the detainees despite six joint investigation teams (JITs) had been formed. The court directed the government to take concrete steps for recovery of the detainees and submit a compliance report on the next hearing. Will there be a "next hearing"; if so, will it be the same judge

"Harvard Survey" ( in quotation marks :D )Endorses Nawaz Sharif ; Rejects Imran Khan

Voters trust Sharifs, not Imran, for uplift: Harvard, LUMS survey
ISLAMABAD: A big majority of people think it is not the PTI Chairman Imran Khan but Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif who can take the country into the league of developed nations, says a political attitude survey conducted by a team of scholars from the reputed Harvard University and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).The survey was conducted in three constituencies of Lahore — NAs 121, 122 and 124.According to the survey, the voters were concerned the most about economic issues such as the purchasing power and unemployment.Corruption is an important issue for a sizeable minority but anti-corruption campaigns that do not tackle economic issues are unlikely to resonate.Several public services, including education, health, water, electricity and security matter for voters, but improvement in no one service is likely to swing the election. Survey officially conducted by Harvard ?, Survey conductors relatives of NS studying at Harvard , how were survey conductors picked , Any Amreekans purpose of survey to endorse Nawaz , what was the sample size, how were the questions framed- lots of interesting questions not covered in the farticle ; Immy should protest
An important feature of the survey is that it is based on in-home interviews, which result in much higher response rates (71%) than is globally the case with online and internet surveys (which can be as low as 10-20%). The sampling methodology of this survey ensures that the team draws a random sample that is representative of male and female registered voters in specific national and provincial assembly constituencies of interest.According to the survey report, within service delivery, electricity doesn’t stand out as the most important issue. This is what the current survey shows but this could reflect seasonality as the survey was conducted in winter months with low load shedding. Lots of buzz words to give the impression of an impartial and objective study !

Dus percenti's Bravado :D

India can’t stop Pakistan’s water: Zardari
JAFFARABAD: Former president of Pakistan and leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday India could not stop Pakistan’s water as Islamabad had already found other channels to fulfill its requirements.Addressing a ceremony in connection with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s death anniversary, the former president spoke of water woes of the country and said : “People ask me where will water come from, and I tell them the water will come from Central Asia, and I will bring it”. Appears to be in "election mode" ; if so, anything goes
He said there would be wars over water in the coming days. We have already found others channels for water and Inshallah Balochistan would be the first to benefit from those channels. Hope that he is not thinking about bring water from Gilgit Baltistan in water trucks to Balochistan via the CPEC Karokoram Highway
Zardari said Pakistan People's party (PPP) had the responsibility to protect people of Balochistan under its umbrella. He said Balochistan has bright future and "I love Balochistan as much as I love Pakistan itself" while advising Baloch people to keep themselves from being misused. Playing on his Balochi antecedents
Talking about the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said said the project would benefit Pakistan wholly and would strengthen entire nation instead of certain parts and departments. He said China is a friendly neighbor and has been supportive. Supporting words on CPEC would bring in "rich dividends" for his nefarious business schemes, for which he is famous !

Islam Top Honcho Arrives In Pakistan On invitation Of Maulana Diesel

Imam-i-Kaaba arrives in Pakistan
PESHAWAR: Imam Kaaba Sheikh Saleh Mohammad Ibrahim arrived in Peshawar on Thursday on the invitation of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) which is marking its centenary celebrations starting Friday.
The JUIF will hold centenary celebrations at Azakhel in Nowshera district, which will continue till April 9. The Paki press has reported elsewhere that it will be strictly a 100% male affair, with hardly a single female person present, either in keeping with the Imam-i- Kaaba's request or the "conservative nature" of Maulana Diesel

Italian firms keen to sell missile defence system to Pakistan
KARACHI: Italian manufacturers and suppliers of military hardware, particularly missile defence systems, are eyeing Pakistan as a potential market to export their products and technology.Representatives of leading defense equipment manufacturers, including MBDA, Italian developer and manufacturer of missiles; Elettronica, Integrated Electronic Attack and Self-Protection Systems developer; and Fincantieri, an Italian shipbuilding company on Thursday held a press conference onboard the visiting Italian Navy ship ITS Carabiniere. They briefed the press about their companies' expertise and willingness to explore Pakistan's market for defence products.Earlier, Francesco Pagnotta, the commanding officer of the visiting Italian ship, briefed the media about the ship and her visit to South-East Asia and Australia.
ITS Carabiniere is an anti-submarine warship that was delivered to the Italian Navy in April 2015. ITS Carabiniere is fitted with latest generation platform and combat systems based on state of the art military and civil standards.
The ship has reached Karachi after visiting Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Australia and Singapore where the frigate joined exercitations with local navies and took part in LIMA 17, held in Malaysia. The deployment of the ship was organised with the support of Fincantieri, Leonardo, MBDA Italia, Elettronica and Telespazio.Italian defence attaché and officials of Pakistan Navy were also present in the press conference. Goodwill visit by the "toy manufacturer" ; Pakistan also wants the "new toy" so it can play with it with the "next -door" neighbour ; but the "shopkeeper" wants to deal in cash only ( no credit cards accepted !) which the "customer" does not have

K-P govt planning to export donkeys to China

PESHAWAR: Inspired by the example of African states like Nigeria, Kenya and Burkina Faso, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government is looking to export live donkeys to China.

According to sources privy to the development, concerned provincial authorities have initiated steps to increase the donkey population in K-P and are planning to present the proposal to investors in China later this month.

The programme, titled the ‘Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa-China Sustainable Donkey Development Programme’, is one of the many investment portfolios the K-P Planning and Development Department has chalked out to attract Chinese investment in the province’s agriculture sector under the umbrella of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The proposals will be presented at a road show the K-P government will hold in China on April 17 and 18, the sources said.

Pork in Punjab: PFA to make example of officials jumping the gun

An official document pertaining to the donkey export plan notes that while much neglected in Pakistan, the animal is highly valued in China, especially for its hide which is used to manufacture medicines, among other things.

“The proposed project will help improve the socio-economic status of donkey-rearing communities by improving the health and production of local donkeys,” the document stated.

It said the K-P government will “develop linkages in order to improve prices of donkeys and enhance the income of breeders and traders.”

“New technologies will be introduced and work will be done on capacity building of donkey breeders and services they provide,” it added.

Armed with three donkeys and a camel, AJK activist demands basic services

The proposed cost of the project is Rs1 billion, but the document insisted the scheme will meet “not only its investment cost but also generate a good amount of revenue.”

It stated the investor will have to design shelters for the animals, construct buildings for semen production and offices as well as residential compounds for workers, procure the animals and necessary machinery, and make arrangements to generate the needed electricity from solar energy. The K-P government will look after utilities and provide technical and non-technical employees for the farms.

“The project can be executed through joint venture mutually agreed between the K-P government and the investor. It is also open for state-owned, state-supported and private entities,” the document read.

To repay Eurobond debt, Pakistan likely to borrow $750m from China
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan may borrow another $750 million as a short-term foreign commercial loan from China, ironically to pay back the Eurobond debt incurred during the rule of Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, also underscoring that the country is no more able to retire its debt from own resources.

Due to the relatively low cost of borrowing from foreign commercial banks, the government is considering taking another commercial loan to return $750 million Eurobond debt, said sources in the Ministry of Finance.

USA Shuts Down Suspected Dawood Ebrahim's Diploma Mill Scam - Axact

Pakistani Man Pleads Guilty In Axact Diploma Mill Scam
Joon H. Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that UMAIR HAMID, a/k/a “Shah Khan,” a/k/a the “Shah,” pled guilty yesterday before U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with an international “diploma mill” scheme that collected tens of millions of dollars from thousands of customers. As alleged in the Indictment to which HAMID pled guilty and the related criminal Complaint, HAMID and his co-conspirators made false and fraudulent representations to consumers on websites and over the phone to trick them into enrolling in purported colleges and high schools, and issued fake diplomas upon receipt of upfront fees from consumers.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim said: “Operating from Pakistan, Umair Hamid helped fraudulently rake in millions of dollars from unwitting American consumers who paid to enroll in, and get degrees from, high schools and colleges that did not exist. As a result of his fraud, people who thought they were investing in an education received nothing more than worthless diplomas and a harsh lesson in the worldwide reach of deceit. Together with our partners at the FBI and the Postal Service, we will continue to work to protect consumers from scams that victimize our citizens”. The US probe should have gone one step further and investigated links between the accused and the Paki Deep State and the widely suspected connection between Dawood the Don and ISI !.According to the allegations contained in the Indictment and the Complaint against HAMID, as well as other court filings in this matter:
The Axact SchemeHAMID, using the aliases “Shah Khan” and the “Shah,” and others operated a massive education “diploma mill” through the Pakistani company “Axact,” which has described itself as one of the world’s leading information technology (“IT”) providers. Working on behalf of Axact, HAMID and others made misrepresentations to individuals across the world, including throughout the United States and in the Southern District of New York, in order to dupe these individuals into enrolling in supposed high schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. Consumers paid upfront fees to HAMID and his co-conspirators, believing that in return they would be enrolled in real educational courses and, eventually, receive legitimate degrees. Instead, after paying the upfront fees, consumers did not receive any legitimate instruction and were provided fake and worthless diplomas. It is well and fine that this "Paki cannon fodder" will be sent to jail for his white collar crime in deceiving the American folks of their hard -earned dollars ; but many Ummah brothers in the Gulf also were taken for a ride by these crooks ; did the probe "trace the money angle" ; did the proceeds end up in funding ISI cum Dawoood operations ? Too many unanswered and too many "hot to handle " questions
Axact promoted and claimed to have an affiliation with approximately 350 fictitious high schools and universities, which Axact advertised online to consumers as genuine schools. During certain time periods since 2014, Axact received approximately 5,000 phone calls per day from individuals seeking to purchase Axact products or enroll in educational institutions supposedly affiliated with Axact. At least some of those consumers appeared to believe that they were calling phone numbers associated with the respective schools. When consumers asked where the schools were located, sales representatives were instructed to give fictitious addresses. Is the Krachi ( "the most dangerous city in the world") boiler room operation ( from where some of these calls were answered ) still in existence; have the Paki authorities taken into custody the top honchos or have the culprits "escaped" to Dubai as often happens !
Once a consumer paid for a school certificate or diploma that falsely reflected a completed course of study, Axact sales agents were trained to use sales techniques to persuade the consumer to purchase additional “accreditation” or “certifications” for such certificates or diplomas in order to make them appear more legitimate. Axact, through HAMID and his co-conspirators, falsely “accredited” purported colleges and other educational institutions by arranging to have diplomas from these phony educational institutions affixed with fake stamps supposedly bearing the seal and signature of the U.S. Secretary of State, as well as various state agencies and federal and state officials. All of this was given media coverage at that time !
HAMID, 31, of Karachi, Pakistan, pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The maximum potential sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the judge. HAMID is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Abrams on July 21, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Kim praised the outstanding investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. If you believe you were a victim of this crime, including a victim entitled to restitution, and you wish to provide information to law enforcement and/or receive notice of future developments in the case or additional information, please contact the Victim/Witness Unit at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, at (866) 874-8900. For additional information, go to http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/nys/victimwitness.html.The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. Assistant United States Attorneys Edward A. Imperatore, Noah D. Solowiejczyk, and David Abramowicz are in charge of the prosecution. Paki scam artists have now moved on to "new and improved" and more lucrative white collar crimes in Massaland ; objective is to enrich themselves and their birthplace . Just recently, a Paki was convicted of illegal hawala transactions

‘Depression rising alarmingly in Pakistan's urban areas’
“Around 35.7 per cent citizens of Karachi are affected with mental illness, while 43pc people in Quetta and 53.4pc in Lahore are also affected”
Globally, depression affected 20pc of people while in Pakistan it was more serious with an estimated 34pc of the population suffering from it.
Both genetic and environmental factors play chiefly in its pathogenesis.”
“Apart from these causes, power shortages, non-availability of potable water, unemployment, traffic jams, intolerance, insecurity, and law and order situation are also factors which increase depression day by day in our society.
“Even the way our channels broadcast breaking news increases depression.”

US superpower only because of Pakistan: Nasir Janjua :((
National Security Advisor Gen (R) Nasir Khan Janjua said the United States is a superpower only because of Pakistan's sacrifices. He pointed out Pakistan’s sole in countering Soviet invasion that helped the US become a superpower. IMO, Nasir as an individual , and Pakistan as a "nation" should "book an appointment " with a a geo-political psychologist, ASAP to avoid a complete emotional breakdown . My advice to the Paki Establishment and the Paki Foreign Office in particular is to get over this sulking . How much longer can they afford to be in this perpetual depressive mode "that they have again been let down by Massa and used again and again like a "second -hand condom". They should enter the 21st century, come out of the "collective shock of being used as a condom" and implement this Diplomacy 101 dictum , forcefully in the future : In Geo-politics there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests .

Harvard Educated Paki Lawyer Warns Against Fact Manufacturing ( And Myth Making ) In Al- Bakistan

Manufacturing facts

By Babbar Sattar
In 2012 I got a call from (now) Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa, DG ISPR saying that the then army chief, Gen Kayani would like to see me. A columnist who preaches the constitutional principle that there must be civilian control of the military in Pakistan can find trouble. (I was once called in by the ISI to counsel and cure me of my flawed opinion in a column about the ‘khaki mindset’). Having nurtured the self-delusion that my op-eds mattered and being partly paranoid that I might have written something that had upset the high and the mighty, my immediate concern was for personal safety. Don't blame him one bit. Look what happened to the visiting Imams from Delhi; mysteriously picked up and made to disappear for a "few days"
It was a weekend night. I immediately called a trusted friend for advice. He told me that I was being an idiot. If khakis want someone picked up, the chief doesn’t get involved directly. Of course, he was right. I made my way to the army house. Gen Bajwa was there. There were no other invitees. I didn’t know what the meeting’s agenda was. Gen Kayani showed up. It was the first time I had met him. He came across as a congenial man. After pleasantries, he lit up a cigarette and told me that I could be candid and ask him whatever I wished. A drawing-room style conversation about the challenges confronting Pakistan followed. Were "hot drinks" served :D
I later found out that there was nothing extraordinary about the invitation. Gen Kayani was used to inviting journalists and columnists and the conversations continued late into the night. I am writing about this meeting five years later because toward its end the 2013 election and prospects of various parties came up. I recall being told that the PTI had very strong support within the military. I also recall developing a sense that Gen Kayani and the khakis wanted Imran Khan to win, which prompted me to volunteer the advice that no matter whom they were rooting for, it would be best not to fidget with the election to make wishes come true. The bottom line is that the Paki fauj still sees Immy as "it's poster boy of democracy" and his still "stellar reputation" ( not as a stud !) in the first, second and third world
Lt-Gen Tariq Khan’s much-circulated Facebook post in response to Naeemul Haq’s allegation that Gen Kayani conspired (along with the US and Saudi Arabia), to steal the election from the PTI and hand it to the PML-N confirms my impression of the 2012 meeting. Having been a corps commander back in 2013, Gen Tariq Khan asserts that, “had their been any rigging undertaken by the army, not only would I have been instructed to do it but I should be held responsible for it as well. No COAS needs to answer the rants of a frustrated political party and its disillusioned workers. There was no rigging done by the army.” But the present COAS appears to have sullied his H&D by going out of his way to invite Immy for a "get to know" session over chai - biskoot
The support the PTI enjoys amongst khakis is unmistakable. Whether the conspiracies about Dharna-I being sponsored by the khakis are true or not, many wanted it to succeed. Gen Tariq Khan concludes his post by stating that, “the little respect I had for any political party was the PTI... [the respect] gradually eroded with each stupid step [the party] took. Now I am disillusioned...I assure you, this last wild accusation will not go un-noticed, they [the PTI] would (sic) have lost the support of .7 million serving officers and soldiers and 3 million veterans. It appears that the PTI’s stupidity is only exceeded by the volume of its outbursts”. Female PTI members have started deserting him because of his authoritarian methods and his courting of the Mullahs, his ex-spouse is bad-mouthing him on TV , and now the Election Commission of Pakistan is refusing alloting a symbol to PTI just because he has not held an internal election in his own party !
Gen Tariq Khan’s prophesy might not come true. But to write off Naeemul Haq’s wild allegations as a figment of his personal imagination is disingenuous. While he might not have received any memo from the party to conjure this latest conspiracy, his allegation is a product of the culture nurtured by the PTI where facts don’t matter. This business of ‘alternative facts’ (that has caught on in Trump’s America as well) is quite the fad in Pakistan. The old definition of truth as something that is backed by verifiable facts is dying out around here. All you need to do is add a preface that “even kids know…” and the assertion needs no further verification. The Kaptaan is famous for making "wild allegations" against Nawaz, Asif (both ) etc etc . One member of Ganja's cabinet has even "slapped" him with a lawsuit and he has been forced to apologize several times for his language :D
The second device that helps manufacture facts is repetition. If you doggedly repeat an allegation with confidence and consistency, with the passage of time it evolves into a fact that needs no proof. Like the Ayub Khan myth of "one Muslim equal to ten Hindus" which has now been "laid to rest" since the creation of Bangladesh
Many in Pakistan believe that the Jews in New York knew in advance that 9/11 was going to happen and so they didn’t show up at work and so no Jews died that day. Some even believe that 9/11 just didn’t happen. Many here believe that Osama bin Laden didn’t exist and was a fictional character created by the evil West to frame Muslims. Many believe he was a US agent and was used by the evil West as an excuse to attack Muslims. Many believe he is a US agent who never died and is now living in the Bahamas. Whatever the beliefs, whether or not they are backed by facts doesn’t seem to bother us.A fact-free society is also an accountability-free society. Once verifiable facts and manufactured facts become indistinguishable, the only thing that matters is what side you are on. Our growing polarisation is making truth and the desire to search for it irrelevant.

When 'martial races' are restricted from practicing unbridled jihad in their quest for their 'one true religion of peace', depression can set in. The world must understand that Pakistan itself is the biggest victim of lunacy. No other country has had that many lunatics.

Hmmm………… I wonder if India has arrested a high ranking ISI aka ISID aka Inter Services Intelligence Directorate Agent committing espionage in India and the Mohammadden Terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan is consequently attempting to play victim by claiming that the high ranking agent was kidnapped and taken across the border into India.

Let me hope that it is indeed the case that India has bagged a high ranking ISID agent for espionage in India and who after a full and public confession of spying can be traded for our retired naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav who was kidnapped by Pakistan from Chabahar in Iran.

Shootout In La-Whore ! Paki Police Claim Ten Militants Killed .

Pakistani police say 10 militants killed in gun battle in Lahore
Reuters
Pakistani police said on Saturday 10 militants from Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, died in a gun battle in the eastern city of Lahore, including a key suspect behind a February blast that killed 13 people. The clash came just days after a suicide attack claimed by the Pakistani Taliban on an army census team that killed at least six people and wounded 18 in Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city.Scores of people have been killed since the beginning of the year in a series of attacks that have dashed hopes of an end to the violence of recent years and stepped up pressure on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government to improve security. "Heat" must be felt by "clever brother and cancer survivor" Shahbaz, who is in charge here :D
Police said that they were taking five militants to recover weapons and explosives on Lahore's outskirts early on Saturday morning (hopefully not near Ganja's "Raiwind Palace" ) when they were attacked by a group of about nine militants who freed the captives.Police called for reinforcements and encircled the area, challenging the militants to surrender. "A gun battle ensued. When firing stopped 10 militants were found dead by the firing of their fleeing accomplices," a spokesman for the Counter Terrorism Department in Punjab said in a statement.
Jamaat-ur-Ahrar claimed responsibility for February's attack in Lahore that left 13 dead, as well as an Easter Day bombing last year that killed more than 70 people in a public park in Lahore.Separately on Saturday, another banned Islamist group, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, claimed responsibility for killing a member of the Ahmadi sect in Lahore, the second member of the minority community to be murdered in just over a week.Ashfaq Ahmad, a retired veterinary doctor, was shot by a gunman on a motorcycle as he was traveling by car on Friday, less than two weeks after a prominent member of the sect was killed in Nankana, near Lahore.
Pakistani security forces in February killed around 100 militants ( Pakistani military and para military have been known to "take revenge" on innocent Baluchis and Pashtuns and then label them as "militants" when killed ) after a Sufi Shrine bombing in February that killed more than 80 in the southern province of Sindh.

Three alarm bells

Trade deficit: For the first time ever in Pakistan’s history, our imports are projected to hit $50 billion. For the first time ever in Pakistan’s history, our trade deficit is projected to hit a colossal $30 billion. (Trade deficit is the “amount by which the cost of a country’s imports exceeds the value of its exports”).

The export sector has crashed, foreign exchange remittances are trending downwards and there is no meaningful foreign direct investment. For the record, Pakistan’s current account deficit has widened by an alarming 121 percent during the first eight months of the ongoing fiscal year compared to the same period last year. (Current account deficit is the “measurement of a country’s trade where the value of the goods and services it imports exceeds the value of the goods and services it exports”).

How will we finance a current account deficit that is projected to hit a colossal $8 billion? How will we finance a current account deficit that is projected to hit a shocking four percent of our annual GDP? What will happen to our current account deficit if the oil prices keep on going up?

To be certain, the $30 billion trade deficit is not sustainable and there are three logical consequences: additional debt, devaluation of the rupee and a higher rate of inflation. Unfortunately, our future will have all three: additional debt, devaluation of the rupee and a higher rate of inflation.

Energy sector: The real elephant in this sector is the circular debt. To be sure, loadshedding is a symptom, the real disease is the circular debt. On March 7, 2013, the PML-N came out with a 104-page election manifesto. The manifesto specifically made 42 power-sector related promises. In July 2013, the PML-N government paid off a mammoth Rs480 billion outstanding circular debt promising that the party will not ‘tolerate’ the accumulation of circular debt ever again.

By March 2017, we discovered that circular debt had once again reached Rs414 billion. Pakistan continues to lose $50 billion a year every year because of loadshedding and loadshedding is all because of circular debt. Yes, line losses are marginally down. Yes, recovery is marginally up. Yes, the PML-N government has inaugurated a dozen power plants. But there haven’t been any fundamental power sector reforms at all. We are essentially where we were in 2013.

Budget deficit: The FBR now admits to a revenue collection shortfall of Rs100 billion. But there are two issues: first, the FBR has been holding back refunds to the tune of Rs200 billion and second, there are off-budget deficits that amount to over Rs400 billion. The real budget deficit is projected to hit six percent of the GDP as opposed to the budgeted fiscal deficit limit of 3.8 percent of the GDP.

The budgetary deficit at this level is not sustainable and there are five logical consequences: additional debt, higher taxes, higher debt payments, higher rates of interest and higher rates of inflation. Unfortunately, our future will have all five: additional debt, higher taxes, higher debt payments, higher rates of interest and higher rates of inflation.

Quo Vadis Clapistan?

He is ex-ISI, which means he is till working for them. Usual tactics of using "officially" retired guys.

Must have come down to meet someone. Given that we went on a round trip from Qatar to Nepal, he was trying to prevent being monitored by our guys of the PIA flights coming in to Nepal.

The job interview thing is obviously a cover. He came down to meet someone and that "someone" probably was followed by our boys. May be both then got goatnapped.

SBP borrowing dollars to arrest fall in reserves
KARACHI: Currency dealers said on Saturday the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has been buying dollars from local banks and borrowing from overseas commercial banks to maintain foreign exchange reserves at the current level of $21.5 billion.
The government is trying to arrest the fall in foreign exchange reserves that have been declining since October last year.

Exactly my thoughts when I read it. The ISI unnecessarily acted against India in Iran and R&AW had to instill some sense.

Pakistan’s radicalisation problem begins at school - Raza Rumi, DT

Didn't realize that Raza Rumi has become Editor of DT
In 2010, Pakistan’s Parliament devolved education as well as the powers to set school curricula to the provinces. Many of us heralded this change, as till then the curriculum had been the preserve of central governments that successively introduced a constructed ideology into what young minds were learning. Seven years later, it is disappointing that except for minor changes, no province has undertaken a serious effort to revise what is being taught in the schools.

There is an inordinate emphasis on the madrassas (religious seminaries) whenever we talk about radicalisation of Pakistani society. The madrassas cater to less than 5 percent of the total school going children. It is the public and private schools that shape young minds. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of working with a renowned academic, Dr A.H. Nayyar. Through his research, I came across this intriguing quote from a Pakistan Studies textbook:

“The Muslims of the subcontinent gained a separate state in order to practically implement the concept of the ultimate and definite supreme authority of ... to practice a system, which is based on the principles laid down in Quran and the sayings of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). Islam is not the name of mere prayers and rituals. Rather, it is a complete code of life, which is fully capable of meeting all the demands of human life. It is able to fulfill all the demands of social behaviour, economics, morality and politics. Islamic system is fully aligned with the demands of modernity, and is completely practicable at all times.”

Prima facie, there is nothing wrong with such high-sounding idealism, and rather simplistic understanding of the religion and its application to everything in life. But the reality is that there is no consensus on what is ‘Islamic’, given how Muslims are divided into numerous sects and subsects; and their clerics don’t even pray together. The theological gatekeepers claim to know the best; and of late their use of violence and coercion is also well known. This is why Javed Ghamidi, a progressive scholar, had to leave the country. Another eminent scholar, Dr Shakeel Auj, who was dean of a school at Karachi University, was shot dead, and others who dare to challenge the orthodoxy face imminent threats.

Pakistan’s religio-nationalism started under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (1972-77) and got a major impetus under General Zia-ul-Haq’s Islamisation drive through the 1980s. This drive was also located in nurturing public acceptance of jihad as state policy in Afghanistan and later in India. Sadly, we have indoctrinated at least one or two generations with the idea that Pakistan is only for Muslims. Since we imagine to have liberated ourselves from Hindus (non-Muslims), the implicit disdain for the non-Muslim starts at a very young age. Ideology of Pakistan, a post-partition invention, is now a truth in itself. Central to that is India, the enemy-nation, that must be feared, resented and when needed fought with, at all costs.

Under Gen Musharraf, efforts were made to reform the curricula and some positive developments did take place. For instance, discussion of ancient civilisations of our land, Indus Valley and Gandhara, returned to many schoolbooks. But the overall reframing of ideology did not take place.

In recent years, Sindh and Punjab provinces have made some minor improvements. Though, Punjab has also re-introduced ideological content to appease the conservative sections of society. Sadly, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has reversed some of the changes made during the rule of Awami National Party that had tried to reset the historical record and make the curricula a little less ideological.

After the ghastly attack on a Peshawar school in 2014, Pakistan formulated a National Action Plan (NAP) to counter terrorism and combat extremism. Once again, hope was rekindled that perhaps the state had smelt the coffee and was willing to take the bold strides towards moderating the way mindsets are shaped. Curricula changes in the NAP were clubbed with madrassa reforms, as a broader category. However, due to the resistance by religious-right and the avoidance of high cost by civilian governments, no tangible progress has been made. Even the talk of curricula reforms has by and large vanished from public debate. International donors such as the UK’s Dfid and others who have invested heavily into education also shy away from pressing this aspect of educational reform.

Curricula need revamping on an urgent basis. First, textbooks for General Science, Urdu and English, should only teach relevant content, and there is little need to insert ideological instruction into these subjects. Second, the content in history, social sciences, and Islamic studies need to be more inclusive teaching virtues of tolerance, and religious and cultural diversity within Pakistan and abroad. Such re-imagination requires rethinking the role of religion in the affairs of state. Third, teacher-training programmes to ensure that students are taught by individuals who can impart respect for religious minorities. Content against non-Muslims needs to be expunged. Fourth, inclusion of ideology of Pakistan in subjects such as Urdu, English, and Civics is irrelevant. That should be part of history curricula.

Fifth, non-Muslims should be exempted from compulsory teaching of Islamic studies. Sixth, glorification of war heroes is a practice everywhere but there needs to be a balance. Our future generations should learn to emulate Pakistanis who have contributed in the arts, science and technology& innovation. Seventh, the policy of employing private parties to write and publish textbooks needs to be bolstered and better regulated to get diverse set of writers contributing to the curricula. Lastly, the notoriously familiar factual and content errors ought to be cleaned up, especially with respect to distorted histories of our regions, people and their past.

The overemphasis on military and police action against ‘terrorism’ will not solve the endemic issue of extremism. Pakistan’s deradicalisation project must start in public schools and universities. We are already a few decades late in resetting our direction.
