Arrangements made for Baloch leader Brahamdagh Bugti’s stay in India
Rajesh Ahuja, Hindustan Times, New Delhi | Updated: Oct 06, 2016 08:51 IST

Elaborate arrangements are being made for exiled Baloch leader Brahamdagh Bugti’s stay in India taking into account the possibility that he might form a government-in-exile of Independent Balochistan.
“We have asked Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) to provide an assessment on how many Baloch’s living in exile will follow Bugti to India. Accordingly we will decide on the place where he will be asked to stay,” said a senior home ministry official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The home ministry is also looking for place with suitable climatic conditions for Balochs to stay and feel being at home, added the official.
Bugti had held talks with Indian diplomats in Geneva last month to seek political asylum in India.
The ministry of external affairs had forwarded his application to the home ministry to take a final call.
“We have one such past experience when Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, along with his followers, sought political asylum in India in 1959 and formed a government-in-exile in Dharamshala. Officials of the home ministry are looking at the process followed then,” said the official.
The founder-president of the Baloch Republican Party, Bugti is the grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a Baloch nationalist leader killed by the Pakistan Army in 2006.
Pakistan has strongly opposed India giving asylum to Bugti, calling him a terrorist who is being propped by R&AW.

The case of Wahid Baloch - DT
That there is no end in sight to the agony of those families who are in excruciating pain as they do not know when their loved ones will return either alive or dead allegedly from the custody of the mighty security institutions in the country. The disappearance of Abdul Wahid Baloch from Karachi is one of those tragic cases whose mystery has not been resolved even after the passage of more than two months since his abduction. The whereabouts of social worker and publisher Abdul Wahid Baloch, a resident of Chakiwara in Lyari, are still unknown after he went ‘missing’ on July 26, while his family alleges that he was picked up by law enforcement agencies. A telephone operator at the Civil Hospital in Karachi, Abdul Wahid is a book lover, and helps Baloch authors publish their works and activists their posters. He was the sole bread earner and his disappearance has meant misery on all counts for the family.

The fact that there had been no letup in cases of missing Baloch persons is a cause for concern. Not only Wahid, there are numerous cases that remain unsolved as mystery shrouds these abductions allegedly done by security agencies. Another victim Dost Muhammad Baloch has been missing for the last four years who was also picked up from Karachi, but no clue has been found about his whereabouts. Statistics regarding the missing persons from Balochistan, Sindh and other restive areas are appalling. Reportedly, estimates of the number of disappeared in Balochistan “are between hundreds and several thousand.” In Balochistan, human rights situation is getting worse day by day. In Sindh, such disappearances have intensified in Awaran and Mashkai while it has become a general phenomenon in Makran. Mutilated bodies of missing Baloch men are found in Karachi, which is clearly troubling news. According to the latest media reports, 522 persons have been reported to be victims of ‘enforced disappearance’ in the hands of security forces in 2016 alone. This number excludes the persons who were killed and dumped on roadsides or killed in fake encounters. The bodies bore signs of severe physical torture. Those found dead were reported previously as missing persons. Though the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Amnesty International are raising their voice, yet it seems that they are as helpless as other institutions like the judiciary that have failed to deliver justice to the missing victims and their families.

Silencing voices through the use of force cannot yield desired results. Rather, it would give birth to mutiny and more chaos in the country. Pakistan should not be made a banana state. Moreover, reluctance of the police to register missing persons’ cases gives birth to suspicion about the involvement of powerful authorities in these abductions. The problem is that certain powerful institutions do not want the involvement of courts where it would be difficult to prove their case. Therefore, it is easier to act as the judge, jury and the executioner themselves with no right of defence to the victim whatsoever, and justify it all in the name of national security and well being of people. It is hoped that poor Wahid Baloch’s case does not wind up as corpse covered in limestone. *

^^^ I think there was a video of a Paki news channel interviewing the three daughters of Wahid Baloch.

With Syria, there are a lot of videos and maps of all kinds of activities. Almost all action is uploaded on youtube. Balochistan will need a similar level of mapping with when, where and what of both attacks by PA and cohorts and also the attacks of Baloch themselves.

A political dissent catalogue etc will also be required. These are (IMHO) easier to act steps then the more complicated assylum and govt and exile kind of things.

Plan for Baloch govt.-in-exile hit - Kallol Bhattacharjee, The Hindu
With Baloch nationalist groups not burying their differences, the plan to form a government-in-exile in India is a long shot.

The Baloch Republican Party leadership, on Wednesday, called for a broader consultation among the nationalist parties, and accused a section led by Naela Quadri Baloch of carrying out “insane actions” in India without consultations.

“Naela Quadri is not representing the Baloch people. Rather than supporting, they are damaging the Baloch cause with their insane actions,” Brahumdagh Bugti, Geneva-based leader of the Baloch Republican Party, said in a social media post.

“Government-in-exile is a national issue, and national issues cannot be announced without national consensus.”

In view of the differences, Indian interlocutors have advised the Baloch nationalists to put up a united front.

“Baloch leaders should learn from the history of the Indian freedom struggle, where leaders came together despite differences. Baloch leaders are expected to put up a united front and avoid diluting the normative position of their national struggle. While we hope to extend moral and political support to them, it is for them to resolve internal differences,” said Rakesh Sinha, of India Policy Foundation, which recently hosted Mazdak Dilshad Baloch, son of Dr. Baloch.

What’s causing friction?

Baloch Republican Party sources did not clarify the exact cause of friction between Dr. Quadri and Mr. Bugti, but it is understood that the reason is the first-mover advantage Dr. Quadri and her son has as they have started campaign in India while other groups are yet to get their visas.

The Hindu had reported that Mr. Baloch and his supporters would begin a campaign across India, especially in the western Indian Baloch neighbourhoods, seeking support for a government-in-exile.

While other exiled Baloch figures had privately criticised the growing influence of Dr. Quadri in Delhi, Mr. Bugti’s social media posts revealed for the first time the fissures within the movement. Mr. Bugti held talks with India for political asylum, but his request has not yet received the government’s permission.

Pakistan Senate body urges govt to ratify UN convention against enforced disappearances - DT
The Senate functional committee on Human Rights demanded data of enforced disappeared and missing person's data from the Balochistan government during the last five years. The Senate functional committees on Human Rights meet here in Parliament house under the chair of Senator Nasreen Jalil.

Committee members Farhatullah Babar, Dr. Jahanzeb Jamaldini, Sitara Ayaz, Mufti Abdul Sattar and Sehar Kamran strongly criticised the recent attack on the police training centre and previous attacks in Quetta. Jamaldini of Balochistan National Party, whose son Advocate Sangat was killed in a civil hospital attack on lawyers in August said that his son was alive for almost seven hours after the incident, but due to lack of facilities at the hospital he died. He said the Federal Interior minister himself confessed on the floor of the Senate that there were no leads in the investigation. He said the province was spending almost Rs 30 billion but law and order of the province had not improved yet. He said that the handler of Shikarpur attack Haji Abdul Qadir was openly living in Wud area of the province, but nobody dared to touch him.

The Home Secretary of Balochistan Dr. M Akhtar Harifal rejected the impression that the administration knew about the Police Training Centre attack beforehand. {which simply means that the administration knew about the attack !} He said that Balochistan was a large province, and despite taking strong measures to tackle law and order situation of the province, lapses could occur. He said that stringent security measures were taken by police and other law enforcement forces and many incidents were prevented from happening.

He said the province had been facing an insurgency for more than a decade. He demanded restoration of earlier powers of the Deputy Commissioner and officials to hold affairs to curtail the menace of terrorism in the province. He demanded "collective powers" so that people like Dr. Allah Nazir, who are at large could be arrested. {This is the Frontier Crimes Regulation, FCR} Senator Babar intervened and said that the Home Minister wanted outdated powers like FCR.

Chairman National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) Justice (Ret) Ali Nawaz Chochan said he himself visited Quetta after the attack on lawyers and it seemed the pattern of attacks was the same. The Committee asked the Home Secretary to present a detailed report consisting of names of enforced disappeared and missing person names. If any dumped bodies were found, FIRs should be registered and DNA tests conducted.

Chairperson of the committee formed a sub-committee under the convenership of Senator Jamaldini, in which Sitara Ayaz and Sehar Kamran will be its members. The sub-committee will look at standard operating procedure before and after the currents attacks in Quetta and present its report in the committee.

Nasreen Azhar and Tahira Abdullah, Council members of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, briefed the committee regarding the HRCP's fact findings mission on the abduction of social worker Abdul Wahid Baloch, who disappeared on 26 July 2016.

They said that Baloch was taken by two persons from a highway toll plaza on the outskirts of Karachi while he was travelling from Digre, Mirpur Khas. Two people forcibly stopped the vehicle, then verified with a picture of Abdul Wahid Baloch on their smart phone. He was then taken away on a Toyota Vego.

His family members went to Gadap Police Station to report the incident, however police refused to complete a first information report to register it as a kidnapping case and have not yet launched any investigation.{How can the police file a case against the Army?}
They said that details of Baloch's case were also sent to the commission on the missing persons, headed by Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal. The Committee referred the case to NCHR for investigation.

To quote Hacker of Yes Prime Minister - "It has not be officially denied. First rule of politics never believe anything unless it is officially denied."

Now that it is officially denied, we can assume that this attack is not just known to PA and ISI and also done by them only.

War Of Attrition Against Balochis Continues !
Pakistan army demolished the residence of BRP leader in Sui
Dera Bugti: Residence of BRP central spokesman, Mr. Sher Mohammad Bugti, has been demolished in Sui, Dera Bugti.
BRP Media Cell sources have reported that the residences of Mr. Bugti and his relatives in Sui have been demolished.According to locals, Mr. Bugti’s house was destroyed in 2006 by Pakistan army, but its wall remained standing which has been collapsed, recently.
The place will be used, as the locals says, for a military headquarter. There is no reason to disbelieve this unconfirmed report !
Mr. Sher Mohammad Bugti was a very close companion of Shaheed Nawab Akbar Bugti, and he has been living his life in exile since Shaheed Nawab Bugti’s martyrdom. He is currently based in Switzerland with Baloch Republican Party leader & grandson of Shaheed Nawab Akbar Bugti, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti.

This "retired" Ex Fauji is now a "consultant" employed by the Amreekhans; he is based in Massaland and because of his native knowledge and contacts - makes occasional forays in Afghanistan and reports back to the Americans !
It's amazing how much clarity in thought process is induced when a green card is in the field of vision. There are dozens of these ex-Paki strongmen in US burning the bridge that got them there, after having spent a lifetime on the devil's mission. With their kids settled in Amrika, better sense has suddenly dawned on them. Note, they all write in English because their audience is the Amrikans and assorted Wagah types rather than anyone back home.[/quote]

Here is an old Article by Major A. H. Amin (Retd) of 01-06-2013 - Old but quite pertinent with a "Warning" :

Pakistani Generals are Phd in Destroying Pakistan

The last territorial addition to Pakistan was Gwadar under Feroz Khan Noon in 1958 and Chamb under ZAB at Simla Accord. The last loss that Pakistan suffered was Siachen under the usurper Zia in 1983-84 and the next losses that Pakistan suffers will be in its western areas in 2013-18. There is no bad luck or good luck in history but consequences and what Pakistan will suffer would be foolish consequences of Pakistan´s generals .

The separation of East Pakistan can be directly linked to extreme discrimination in Ayub military junta era. The causes for insurgency in Balochistan and FATA are irrevocably linked to military faux pas starting from 1958.

A recent visit to Quetta was an eye opener.

It is a mystery why Balochistan has a Khattak corps commander and a Khattak IG FC . A more deadly combination could not be imagined.

I saw Major Alam Khattak as a bachelor major in 14 FF in 1985-88 . 14 FF was our brigade unit and Alam Khattak was not outstanding. Obaidullah Khattak was my company mate in the PMA and was an average cadet .

I asked an IB officer,” what is the role of IB ? ” “Sir it is to make one tribe fight another” , he replied.

Till the 1980s the Baloch regarded the Pashtuns as their elder brothers. However, since the 1990s, Pakistans estabishment has admirably succeeded in dividing Baloch and Pashtuns. Just like Zia divided Sindh in 1983 by creating MQM after people protested in Dadu with their tools erect and donkeys all around when Zia visited Dadu in 1983.

However Balochistans Baloch are condemned to suffer since 2010-11.

FC checkposts are set up in Baloch areas by design and no Baloch worth his salt would like to travel from Sariab Road to Jinnah Road the main market area. This is because he would be searched in a most degrading manner in front of his wife and children , if he is not a Pashtun ?

Crude FC sepoys from Karak and Kohat etc would talk to him as if the Baloch is a stray dog. His car´s papers would be checked by this crude FC soldier because a Punjabi chief justice who became a judge because of Balochistan domiscile does not like the fact that a Baloch can drive a car or jeep !

You drive from Quetta to Duki , a Pashtun area, and FC will not stop you but you drive from Duk to Kolhu and Maiwand , Baloch areas , every vehicle would be stopped and every Baloch passenger degraded like a pariah dog .

It is a guiness book mystery that in three Baloch majority constiuencies in south Quetta two Pashtuns and one Hazara candidate have won. I was in Quetta on election day and can understand how this happened.

FC huns deployed on election duty cracked Baloch skulls with rifle butts and looked the other way when Pashtun voters jumped over walls of polling stations in PB 3, 4 and 5. FC managed to turn Baloch in three constituencies into a minority. Petitions have been filed but have no chance with Punjabi and Pashtun judges.

The worst case was Kolhu Dera Bugti where the winning candidate Naseebullah Marri, Son of Nur Marri lost against Changez Marri. Mysteriously Tadhri had 1000 votes polled where a man who has visited Tadhri knows that this is impossible.

Kahan which is a no go area where you cannot even find a dog had 1400 votes. The idea possibly is to have a PML N candidate who can hijack the Baloch nationalists.

Heavy rigging was carried out all over Balochistan to bring Pashtun nationalists who are apology of nationalists and mild Makrani politicians who can be manipulated by the establishment. The Sher Jawans of FC, who take great pride in harassing Baloch on Sariab road, disappear after 2300 hours at night and Quetta is a terrorists paradise. No citizen dares to leave his house in Baloch areas after 1800 hours. The road from Quetta to Karachi is like a graveyard.

The million dollar question is that if Punjabis are being inducted in FC Balochistan why not Hazaras ? If the Pakistani state can give employment to Baloch youth it can save more money than what it spends on FC to police Balcochistan ! But it appears that it may be too late now !

If we go back in history Mr Jinnah had two Bengali battlions raised but Ayub Khan who despised the Bengalis and when Yahya Khan took over in 1969 there were just three Bengali battalions ? Yahya raised more Bengali units after 1969 but it was in vain since all rebelled or were near disbanded if in west Pakistan in 1971.

One credit which Baloch give to general Musharraf is that no one was killed although many were picked but released after an year or two . In the Zardari Kiani era maximum Baloch were killed and dumped on roads.

I asked an ISI civilian operative to sum up the situation in December 2011 and he said: “Sir we have killed Baloch in large numbers but have failed to kill the idea of independence from their hearts ! “

Quetta's Baloch part is like Warsaw in 1942, and Quetta's non Baloch part is like peaceful Berlin in 1940 ! The FC behaves like Kaminski and Dirlewanger Brigades ?

I asked a Baloch mir whether sir Zardari is a Baloch. He replied , that ” disgrace is a juttt , a camel bearer and not Baloch.”

The scene is set for diasaster and Balochistan will be a test case !

In the end Pakistany analysts would say it was a US or India conspiracy but for a man who understands, it was a Pakistani conspiracy. The Pakistani establishment regards Baloch as sub-humans just like SS commanders in the Ukraine in 1942. All they need is Balochistan´s oil and gas and it´s people are expendable. This Policy may not work.

Peregrine-ji:

The reference by the Retd Major ( turned Paki turncoat  ) to "a Punjabi chief justice" is of course, to the "lazy eye" Iftikhar Chaudhry ( of suo moto fame ), who became "famous" after Mushy sacked him , and who "defended" his son Arsalan from massive corruption charges ! (in the meantime, tours the universe at someone else's expense collecting quite a few - IMO undeserving - international awards !) And , if the Retd Major, is to be believed he was out and out # 1 ( Anti Baloch) racist.

PS: The Punjabi Ex Chief Justice gives an impression that he has the interest of the "missing and poor Balochi persons", which triggers additional publicity for him . He has become the self-appointed guardian of the Paki legal system ! He was recently in the news when he refused to turn in his govt issued bullet proof car. So much so for ethics and honesty of this pious judge

Pakistani journalist murdered in Baluchistan- Committee To Protect Journalists
X posted from STFUP

New York, January 13, 2017--Pakistani authorities should credibly investigate yesterday's fatal shooting of a journalist in Baluchistan province and bring those responsible to swift justice, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle fatally shot Muhammad Jan, a reporter for the Urdu-language daily newspaper Qudrat in the Qalat district in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province, and fled the scene, according to news reports. Jan, 37, was also press secretary at the press freedom group the Pakistan Media Council and a teacher at a secondary school in Qalat. Baluchistan has long been the site of conflict between the state and separatist and other militant groups.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Media reports said that police had opened an investigation into the murder, but had not yet named any suspects. A police officer told Agence France-Presse that Jan had not told police about any threats he might have received, or about any personal disputes."Baluchistan, mired in a protracted conflict, is a particularly dangerous place for journalists," said Steve Butler, CPJ's Asia program coordinator. "We call on the Pakistani government to conduct a thorough investigation of Muhammad Jan's murder, and to consider his journalism as a possible motive. Pakistan must show that journalists cannot be murdered with impunity."Impunity in the attacks and murders of journalists in Pakistan runs high. With insufficient or no official investigation into the crimes, it is often hard to determine the motives for the attacks. Pakistan ranked eighth on CPJ's 2016 Impunity Index, which highlights countries where journalists are murdered and their killers go free. The Pakistan Press Foundation, an advocacy group, has reported that entrenched impunity has forced Pakistani journalists into self-censorship or leaving the profession altogether.

Apologies if this article has been posted already, sometime. It angered me, basically it is saying India should not retaliate for just about anything Pakistan does. The whole tone and tenor of the article is show up India for its weaknesses and limitations, not explore alternatives or all options. Nor to highlight India's strengths. India is weak, weak, weak, it should not do anything. Grrrrrrrrrr....

India must remember that Balochistan is not Bangladesh

1swain-ashok_Following Prime Minister Modi’s comments about Balochistan in his independence day speech, Ashok Swain warns that open support for Baloch separatists will not solve the Kashmir conflict. What is more, he writes that by threatening its neighbour’s territorial integrity India risks alienating key allies, and in the worst case scenario intervention could result in a nuclear conflict which would threaten the lives and livelihoods of millions.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day Speech on 15 August 2016 raised the issue of Pakistan’s human rights violations in Balochistan. This has brought a new excitement in New Delhi, particularly among the right wing commentators as if India has finally found a solution to the Kashmir issue.

Since the death of a charismatic militant Burhan Wani in the hands of the security agencies on 8 July 2016, Kashmir is witnessing unprecedented violent protest. Modi and his advisors hope that Kashmir unrest will come to an end if India starts spreading the fire in Balochistan. If Modi and his advisors really believe that the Balochistan threat will dissuade Pakistani agencies to stay out of Kashmir and the contested state will be peaceful forever, they are living in a cloud-cuckoo land. History shows that Pakistani military establishment does not succumb to Indian threats. Instead, it uses this threat to accumulate more power for itself. India’s direct support to the East Pakistan liberation movement, which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh, did not succeed in changing the perception of Pakistani agencies. It only exacerbated their paranoia towards India further.

In the last decade, while Western attention has been mostly on the Taliban, the separatist struggle is turning quite violent in this scarcely populated but mineral-rich province in the south west of Pakistan. The Baloch have waged two major violent ‘freedom’ struggles against the state: an uprising from 1973 to 1977, which was crushed by the Pakistani Army using brute force. The second ongoing struggle started in 2005.

It is no secret that India has been supporting the separatists in Balochistan in their fight again Pakistani military without openly admitting it. Baloch activists have repeatedly admitted of receiving India’s ‘moral’ support and a representative of Balochistan Liberation Organization (BLO) has been living in New Delhi since 2009. Pakistan has been regularly accusing India for using its consulates in Jalalabad and Kandahar to fund, train and arm Baloch militants. A decade back, senior officials of Pakistan had even alleged that 600 Baloch tribals were being trained by India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Afghanistan to handle explosives, engineer bomb blasts, and use sophisticated weapons.

Pakistan has failed to provide much proof about Indian involvement, however, according to 2010 WikiLeaks cables, US and British intelligence cautiously agrees with the Pakistani accusations. Last year, Pakistan had handed over a dossier to the UN Secretary General containing ‘evidence’ of Indian support to violence in Balochistan. In March this year, Pakistan claimed to arrest an alleged RAW operative from Balochistan. India has been always denied these accusations, but has continued to remain engaged unofficially. However, by openly committing India to Balochistan’s cause in his speech, Modi is likely to expose India’s geo-strategic limitations without gaining any additional advantage, and there is a lot to lose.

It is important to keep in mind that the Balochistan issue is not a straightforward one for India to directly engage in, as was the case with East Pakistan. India does not share a common border with Balochistan and is therefore dependent upon Afghanistan to provide more support to Baloch separatists. This is not as easy as some hawks in India tend to believe, especially as India is struggling to get enough security cover even to protect its own assets in a fast-deteriorating environment in Afghanistan.

India’s expanded engagement in Balochistan might also bring Iran on Pakistan’s side because Baloch nationalists have not only pitched themselves against Pakistan but against Iran as well. Balochs form a majority in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan provinces and, like the Kurds, they are Sunni Muslims. It is not hard to imagine an Iran-Pakistan axis developing rapidly to prevent Baloch aspirations for independence. So getting bogged down in Balochistan risks turning Iran to an enemy of India.

When India went to war with Pakistan over Bangladesh in 1971 it had the blanket support of the Soviet Union, one of the two superpowers in the Cold War. If India picks a fight over Balochistan, Pakistan will receive support from China whose $46 billion USD CPEC investment in the region is at stake, and it is unlikely that any global or regional power will come out openly on India’s side. Both its old friend Russia, and new ally the USA have tried their best to stay out of the Balochistan imbroglio to date. There is no reason to expect that they will change their stance now.

Not only is Balochistan not East Pakistan, the Pakistani Military has moved on since the early 1970s. In 1971 their most prized possessions were the Patton tanks, but today it is their tactical nuclear weapons. After the country split, Pakistan did not just sulk and accept Indian domination, it decided to acquire a large nuclear arsenal by hook or crook. Unlike India, Pakistan has always been very clear about its purpose in acquiring nuclear weapons: to defend itself against Indian aggression. And unlike India, Pakistan also refuses to commit to a ‘no first use’ of their weapons.

Based on the amount of fissile material Pakistan has produced, it is estimated to have 110-130 nuclear warheads compared to India’s 100-120. Both now possess ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and sea-based nuclear delivery systems. Most importantly, Pakistan’s recent deployment of tactical nuclear weapons for its artillery arsenal has taken away any advantage India had previously in the case of a conventional war. This seriously limits India’s manoeuvrability to intervene militarily in Pakistani territory, whether to retaliate against any terror group or support any ‘separatist struggle’.

Provoking Pakistan to an armed conflict now is like playing with fire. If India threatens the territorial integrity of Pakistan as it did in 1971 there is a real possibility of that the Pakistani military will retaliate with its prized weapons. It has the capacity to launch a nuclear strike against India within 8 seconds and could strike Delhi in five minutes.

Even the Indian policy of massive retaliation against the first use would not reduce the ability Pakistani nuclear missiles have to reach several Indian cities in minutes. Even a limited nuclear confrontation could therefore potentially kill millions in India. So unless Narendra Modi is prepared to sacrifice half of his country’s population to win against his nuclear-armed adversary, he should tread carefully. Pakistan understands well that India cannot openly engage in Balochistan conflict as it did in the case of Bangladesh. It is too much of a risk for India to gamble on. A self-assured Pakistan has already called Modi’s bluff, and is even using Modi’s speech to blame India for the domestic insurgency that it has created in Kashmir.

So contrary to the claim of certain Indian commentators, Modi’s bravado from the Red Fort on Balochistan will not deter Pakistani meddling in Kashmir now or in the future. Instead, it threatens to embolden Pakistan further in its desire to maintain its campaign and retaliate in India’s other soft spots like Punjab and Assam.

It seems India is back-tracking from giving asylum to Brahamdagh Bugti in the hope of good relations with Pak. Strategic stupidity? Pak behavior is not going to change and the Baloch will be left to die like dogs at the hands of the Punjabi army. Sad when you use people as merely leverage.

Peregrine, The original problem was created by Lord Curzon who created NWFP from the lands East of the Durand Line. He took some districts out of Pashtun areas and added to Baluchistan and to Punjab. Hence we see Pashtuns living in these tow states or provinces. So Major Amin wondering about two Pashtun MPs from Quetta is due to that reason. It is a Pashtun majority area.

If you see A_Gupta list of twitter handles to follow you don't see B.D. Bugti. I think he has not aligned with India yet and hence the asylum request is on hold.

The real Baloch fight is being carried in the filed not in Geneva. By and large except for around two-three Islamist groups, the Baloch understand they need Indian help to get liberation. US also understands and hence the push and pull going on.

Baloch leader says he’ll seek India’s help - PTI, The Hindu
One of the key voices demanding Balochistan’s freedom has said that he would approach friends like India to seek help for their cause.

Amir Ahmed Suleman Daud, officially known as His Highness the Khan of Kalat, welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in favour of Balochistan during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort last year.

“India is one of the powers of the region, the biggest democracy in the world. The Prime Minister’s [Modi’s] was the only voice we heard in a long time coming out of the neighbourhood and appreciated the intervention. We know we have got a friend,” Mr. Daud said in London on Thursday.

Policy shift

Pakistan had criticised Modi for his comments on Balochistan in his address, seen as indirect support to the freedom struggle. “In the last few days, people of Balochistan, Gilgit, Pakistan—occupied Kashmir have thanked me, have expressed gratitude, and expressed good wishes for me,” Mr. Modi had said, in a significant policy shift on the region.

Mr. Daud, who has been living in exile in Wales in the U.K. for the last few years, indicated that he plans to approach India and other friendly countries like the U.S. to seek help for the cause of Balochistan’s independence.

“We are confident we will get help from a lot of friends, especially from the West and India. We are happy the Republicans are in power in the U.S.; Maybe also China can become a friend. We would like to say to them that they are coming through the wrong actor in this game [Pakistan],” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Mr. Daud addressed a seminar entitled ‘Balochistan Re-visited’ within the British Parliament complex, organised by the U.K.—based Democracy Forum, during which he accused Pakistan of “colonising” the sovereign state of Kalat.

CROSS POSTED :

"EU to change policies if Pak's attitude to Balochistan remains unchanged"- E.U. Member
Geneva: With the Baloch political and human rights activists demanding a special rapporteur in the UN to investigate Baloch human rights violation, scores of Baloch nationals staged a protest outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva today against Pakistan.Member of European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki said that European Union (EU) might change its economic policies if Pakistan's attitude towards the Baloch issue remains unchanged.
"For European Union, it is completely unacceptable that the government in Pakistan still uses violence against the people of Balochistan. We can observe the rise in violence in this region. The EU has special economic relationship with Pakistan and probably we should change this policy to Pakistan because in my opinion our economic relations with Islamabad should depend on the attitude of the Pakistani Government in human rights in Balochistan," Czarnecki told ANI.Leading the protest in Geneva, Baloch activist Mehran Marri accused Islamabad of using unfair tactics.
Highlighting the deteriorating condition of Baloch nationals in Pakistan, Maari said, "It has taken a nastier turn. This time from four to six months, the Pakistan military and intelligence agencies have embarked upon abducting women and children and taking them to undisclosed locations. I am sure they are being violated.""China entering the equation is a toxic mix. Punjabi and Chinese collation to exploit and loot Balochistan has worsened the situation, but China has to realise that Punjabis have been nobody's friend and Pakistan has not been America's friend," he added.
Baloch political activists and human rights defenders raised the situation of deteriorating human rights in Balochistan earlier on Friday and condemned the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at a side event during the 34th Session of UN Human Rights Council.

USA and four other Western powers back Bugti against Pakistan, China -
GENEVA: March 24, 2017. (Ahmar Mustikhan, Washington DC Bureau Chief) Pakistan, despite backing of powerful China, Thursday was put on the mat by a Baloch human rights defender at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, with the backing of the US, UK, Canada the Netherlands and Norway.
The Baloch speaker Abdul Nawaz Bugti, 24, who belongs to the Baloch Republican Party, in his speech blasted the so-called China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), for spelling death and destruction for the Baloch in their France-sized homeland of Balochistan. He said since China and Pakistan began work on the CPEC in 2015, hundreds of thousands of Baloch people have been “forcefully displaced from their hometowns along the CPEC route.” He added that a special force of 12,000 army personnel has been created and deployed for “massacring or displacing the local populace.” Many international observers liken the situation in Balochistan as slow motion genocide akin to what the Pakistan army did in the former East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
Like a common pimp, the West Pakistanis lived off the "jute( and other) earnings of their Eastern Wing . The Pakjabis appear to have kind of plans to exploit the mineral rich province of Balochistan !
The Pakistani representative interrupted Bugti’s speech. China too raised objections on behalf of Pakistan and asked the council to expunge the BRP representative’s remarks. However, delegations of five major Western democracies the US, UK, Canada, Norway and the Netherlands sprung up to the defense of the BRP representative and countered Pakistan and China objections and asked the council to allow the BRP representative to speak. As Bugti resumed his speech, the Pakistani delegation interrupted him for a second time but the US delegation backed Bugti again.Bugti was allowed to conclude his speech. - The Pakis are heavily dependent on the Chinese to "defend them" in international forums
Many of Bugti’s close relatives, including his uncles and cousins, have fallen victims to Islamabad’s scorched earth policy in Balochistan. Pakistan army and security services have also either burned down or occupied homes of thousands of Bugti tribesmen in violation of the Geneva Conventions.Bugti further said the situation in Dera Bugti region is worsening as Chinese and Pakistani companies are busy drilling wells for natural gas reserves. He said Pakistan was taking away gas, called Sui gas in Pakistan, since the 1950s but the local populace have been deprived of their natural resource and lack basic facilities of life..This natural resource ( gas) is being "exported" to all four corners of Pakiland , but the condition of the local populace has gone from bad to worse !
The BRP is led by Swiss-based Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti, who is also the chief of the largest Bugti tribe. Brahumdagh Bugti accuses Pakistan of conducting systematic genocide in Balochistan and through a video message congratulated the people of Balochistan over their victory at the UN body. India should seriously consider granting this person political asylum in India :D

X Posted from the “Oppression of Minorities in Pakistan” thread.

Green on Green Intra-Mohammadden belief motivated sectarian violence sees Mohammaddens of the minority Shia aka Shiite sect targetted for death by their fellow Mohammaddens of the majority Sunni sect in Mastung in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Occupied Balochistan:

4 Hazaras shot dead near Mastung as gunmen open fire on vehicle
At least four people belonging to the ethnic Hazara Shia community were shot dead when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle near Balochistan's Mastung area on Wednesday, police sources said.

A woman is among the slain victims. According to police sources, the incident was an act of targeted killing. …………………………

Balochistan has been experiencing incidents of violence and targeted killings since more than a decade. More than 1,400 incidents targeting the minority Shia and Hazara community have taken place in the province during the past 15 years.

While sectarian terrorism in Balochistan has disproportionately targeted the Hazara community, easily identifiable because of their distinctive physical appearance, other Shias — especially pilgrims travelling to and from Iran — have not been spared either.
