India, Israel Ink Deal for Air Defense System, Radars, UAVs Worth $4.3 Bln
Indian companies have signed 12 strategic agreements ranging from air defense systems, radars, anti-ship missiles to medium altitude long endurance UAVs in India under technology transfer worth $4.3 billion during the first formal meeting of India-Israel CEOs forum in Tel Aviv.
Indian companies have signed 12 strategic agreements ranging from air defense systems, radars, anti-ship missiles to medium altitude long endurance UAVs in India under technology transfer worth $4.3 billion during the first formal meeting of India-Israel CEOs forum in Tel Aviv.
New Delhi (Sputnik) – The meeting took place at the end of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.
Pune-based Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd has signed a joint venture agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for addressing a range of opportunities across air defense systems, radars, anti-ship missiles and command & control systems for the Indian armed forces. Both the companies will produce weapons worth $1.54 billion over a period of 7-10 years.
Bangalore-based Dynamatic Technologies and Elcom signed a ‘Strategic Teaming Agreement’ to produce, assemble and support UAVs in India with IAI. The joint venture is targeting the lucrative medium altitude long endurance (MALE) UAV market in India under technology transfer from IAI. The Indian defense ministry invited a response from indigenous manufacturers for procurement of MALE UAVs for use by three defense services.
“This will be under the “Make in India” initiative from Indian companies,” the notification said.
Alpha Design has signed a joint venture agreement with Elbit Security Systems worth $500 million. This deal will provide much needed indigenously manufactured thermal image-based sights and fire control systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, long range reconnaissance and observation systems (LORROS), coolant dewar detector, eye-safe laser range finders under technology transfer.
Little known in the Indian defense industry, Garware-Wall Ropes Ltd (GWRL), and Israel’s Aero-T signed the agreement to manufacturing and supplying advanced aerostat systems for India. The aerostat is served as early warning systems against enemy air attacks as well as for low-level ground surveillance. Mahindra Telephonics and Shachaf Engineering of Israel will jointly design, develop and manufacture strategic electronics systems for aerospace projects.
India’s Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd of Adventz Group and LeshmanLesico Group of Israel will execute light rail projects worth $2 billion including Greenfield light rail projects in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Does India face the risk of a "neutral" Israel in a future conflict with China? Israel has been willing to help India against Pakistan -- but Israel suffers no consequence for such aid. That will not be the case with the PRC.Austin wrote:The same Netanyahu said to china few weeks back that Israel China was Marriage Made in Heaven and that Israel is Chinas perfect Junior partner.

While India, a major player in the international system, has improved relations with Washington, New Delhi's links with Jerusalem have the potential to smooth over some of the remaining difficulties in dealing with the US. Working with Israel fits into Modi's plan to deepen relations with the US given the US‐Israel friendship.New Delhi believes its normalization of relations with Israel in 1992 had a positive effect on the American disposition toward India. The often‐exaggerated power of the Jewish lobby in America was appreciated in New Delhi. In the 1990s, the American Jewish organizations valued the importance of India for the US and for Israel, as well as the potential advantages of nurturing good relations with the Indian community in America, whose congressional power is on the rise. Many members of the Indian lobby, the US‐India Political Action Committee (USINPAC), which was formed in September 2002, expressed the desire to emulate American Jewish groups and showed interest in cooperation. The Jewish and Indian lobbies worked together to gain the Bush administration's approval for Israel's sale of the Phalcon to India. Moreover, in July 2003, they were successful in adding an amendment to a bill giving aid to Pakistan that called on Islamabad to stop Islamic militants from crossing into India and to prevent the spread of WMD. In the fall of 2008, Jewish support was important in passing through the US Congress the US‐India nuclear deal, which allowed India access to nuclear technology for civilian use despite its not being a party to the Non‐Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The bedrock of the relationship is fundamentally in the good defence experience that India has had with Israel during past wars and now that another war may be imminent, Modi wants the same experience to continue...so all this talk of 'no conditionalities..' is so much bull. The conditionality is very much there and will be tested in any coming war with China.

It is true that Israel has helped India militarily. (Its assistance was particularly valuable in the Kargil War.) It is also true that Israel is deeply involved in the global drug trade (including that in India, using certain Russian Jews in Goa as middlemen.)
I notice that many BRF members are excited about having Israel as an ally. I would recommend wariness regarding this. Remember that though the U.S. provides Israel with extensive assistance, Israel engages in extremely aggressive espionage against it. This is well documented. See, for instance, this: http://ifamericaknew.org/us_ints/spy.html

Yes the lady is quoting the usual caste clap trap, she is british after all!!
It is pavlovs dog reaction for british when it comes to the word "India" and will take a long time to break that link.
Money will talk in the end, even the bbc will come to heel.
I do agree that Israel is no different and wariness is warranted, but access to tech should not be underestimated.
It reminds of the nixon/kissinger moment that led china selling lots of sh#t via WMT amassing $trillions....
and changed them in record time
Hyperbole and excitement on Israeli part could give the tech leg up India needs (american tech also?).

Last year this news had appeared. Did anything happens on this front?
http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://ww ... L&hl=en-IN
http://googleweblight.com/i?u=http://ww ... L&hl=en-IN
Elaborating upon the importance of this proposed deal, officials said here on Saturday the countries including the US and some European countries are reluctant to transfer Seeker technology to India resulting in the country’s missile system lagging behind by at least two generations.
Against this backdrop, Israel has given a clear signal that it will provide the critical ‘know why’ instead of ‘know how’. Starved of the state-of-the-art technology, the Indian industry depends on know how or technology transfer but has not been able to master entire process of manufacturing a smart weapon from scratch. In turn, it hampers the faster modernisation of the armed forces as they are using weapons which are at least 15 to 20 years behind in terms of technological advancement as compared to the US, China and NATO countries.

Going by Netanyahu's comment, looks like Israel’s ardour for romancing the Peoples Republic of China is undiminished notwithstanding sugar daddy United States of America’s strong objections to the dalliance."We have a special relationship with China and they don't care about the political issues"
Israel will need to be very closely watched to ensure that do not damage India by arming the Peoples Republic of China.

It is the US that has stopped Israel from selling weapons to China, otherwise Israel would have sold them more than they sell to India.
India cannot depend upon Israeli weapons and technology forever. Get what you need over the next few years, and develop our own MIC in the private sector in the meantime. That is why the NaMo Govt needs to push hard on the MII and the SP initiatives.

A sad fallout of the Barca attack. However, the chief rabbi speaks the truth.Just list out the recent attacks in Europe.Europe has "simply lost the plot".It has been infiltrated by radical Islam which bided its time and now when they've made enough political gains to subvert western culture insisting on Islamic law,Sharia,Halal, etc.,and manipulating political opinion, they've struck from within and now portray efforts at weeding out Islamic terror as "injustices to Muslims"! Sadly, many western/British politicians are first off the block to defend the Muslim community as if they're the equiv. of Jews who suffered during WW2!
If there is no firm crackdown on Islamic terror by the EU,Britain, etc.,Europe is doomed to enter into civil sectarian strife of the kind that afflicted N.Ireland for over a century. But do the leaders of Europe,Merkel esp.,who've splendidly invited millions of Muslims into the EU have the b*lls to do so? One fears that the Rabbi Meir is right.

Barcelona's chief rabbi urges Jews to move to Israel because 'Europe is lost'
Meir Bar-Hen calls Spain a 'hub of Islamist terror'
Samuel Osborne
The Independent Online
Barcelona's chief rabbi, Meir Bar-Hen, says he has been encouraging his congregation to buy property in Israel YouTube
Barcelona's chief rabbi has urged Jews to move to Israel because "Europe is lost" to radical Islam.
Meir Bar-Hen has been encouraging his congregation to flee Spain, which he called a "hub of Islamist terror for all of Europe."
The chief rabbi's warning came after a terror attack in Barcelona left 13 people dead and over 120 wounded and was followed by another attack hours later that killed one person and injured others in the seaside town of Cambrils.
Isis claimed responsibility for both attacks, which authorities believe were the work of a large terrorist cell that had been plotting for some time.
Police say 'terrorist cell from Barcelona' broken as manhunt continues
In an interview with the Jewish news agency JTA, Mr Bar-Hen said: "Jews are not here permanently.
“I tell my congregants: Don’t think we’re here for good. And I encourage them to buy property in Israel. This place is lost. Don’t repeat the mistake of Algerian Jews, of Venezuelan Jews. Better [get out] early than late.”
He went on to say the attacks had exposed the presence of "radical fringes" within the Muslim community, a problem he said applied to Europe as a whole.
"Europe is lost," he added.
His comments were at odds with the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, which said it had "full confidence in security forces who work daily to prevent fanatics and radical Muslims from inflicting pain and chaos on our cities."

Trump tells Mideast leaders of intention to move embassy to Jerusalem: Officials
WASHINGTON/GAZA: President Donald Trump told Palestinian and Jordanian leaders on Tuesday that he intends to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, their representatives said, amid a growing outcry across the Middle East against any unilateral US decision on the ancient city.
Senior US officials have said Trump is likely on Wednesday to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital while delaying relocating the embassy from Tel Aviv for another six months, though he is expected to order his aides to begin planning such a move immediately. The officials said, however, that no final decisions have been made.
US endorsement of Israel's claim to all of Jerusalem as its capital would break with decades of US policy that the city's status must be decided in negotiations with the Palestinians, who want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state. The international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the entire city.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah joined a mounting chorus of voices saying the US move could unleash turmoil.
Trump notified Abbas "of his intention to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem," Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said.
Abbas "warned of the dangerous consequences such a decision would have to the peace process and to the peace, security and stability of the region and of the world," Abu Rdainah said.
Trump also told the Jordanian monarch of his "intention to move forward" with the embassy relocation, and Abdullah responded that such a decision would have "dangerous repercussions" for the region and would obstruct US efforts to Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, according to a palace statement.
Neither of the leaders' statements said whether Trump, who was also due to talk to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, specified the timing of an embassy move.
Trump, who promised during the 2016 presidential campaign to move the embassy to Jerusalem, appears intent on satisfying the pro-Israel, right-wing base that helped him win the presidency.
Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz, who met last week with US officials in Washington, told Israel's Army Radio: "My impression is that the president will recognize Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years, as the capital of the state of Israel."
Asked if Israel was preparing for a wave of violence if Trump recognizes Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, he said: "We are preparing for every option. Anything like that can always erupt. If Abu Mazen (Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) will lead it in that direction then he will be making a big mistake."
Turkey threatened on Tuesday to cut diplomatic ties with Israel if Trump recognizes Jerusalem.
Senior US officials told Reuters some officers in the State Department were also deeply concerned and the European Union, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia and the Arab League all warned that any such declaration would have repercussions across the region.
"Mr. Trump, Jerusalem is the red line of Muslims," Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan told a parliamentary meeting of his ruling AK Party.
"This can go as far as severing Turkey's ties with Israel. I am warning the United States not to take such a step, which will deepen the problems in the region."
Fears of backlash
Netanyahu has so far declined to speculate on what Trump might say.
But Katz took to Twitter to reject Turkey's threat and reiterate Israel's position on the city, which is one of a long list of stumbling blocks in years of failed peace talks with the Palestinians.
"We don't take orders or accept threats from the president of Turkey," he wrote.
Two US officials said on condition of anonymity that news of the plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital had kicked up resistance from the State Department's Near Eastern Affairs bureau, which deals with the region.
"Senior (officials) in NEA and a number of ambassadors from the region expressed their deep concern about doing this," said one official, saying that the concerns focused on "security."
The State Department referred questions to the White House. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A fourth US official said the consensus US intelligence estimate on US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital was that it would risk triggering a backlash against Israel, and also potentially against US interests in the Middle East.
It could also derail a fledgling Israeli-Palestinian peace effort led by Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner.
The European Union's top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, said on Tuesday that "any action that would undermine" peace efforts to create two separate states for the Israelis and the Palestinians "must absolutely be avoided".
Speaking alongside US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Brussels, she said Jerusalem's status would have to be agreed through negotiations.
The Arab League and Saudi Arabia repeated past warnings, following statements by France and Jordan in recent days.
Past Israeli-Palestinian rifts have deteriorated into protests, attacks and fighting and further destabilized the region.
Israel captured Arab East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and later annexed it, a move not recognized internationally.

India's official statement that its policy on Palestine and Jerusalem is independent of the policy of other countries (US) in the region. So nothing about supporting or not supporting Trump's jerusalem move has been said officially by this govt.

Re: Indo-Israel: News and Discussion
Modi just visited Israel and the news headline quotes a palestinian source saying "Modi will visit palestine". Modi is not going to be visiting Israel again in the near future, so I don't see why any of this is noteworthy. Seems more like this palestinian envoy is trying to put the Indian govt. in a spot -- there is no official Indian statement to this effect. This is the news item
link
link
and from the same articlePrime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Palestine, its envoy to New Delhi said a day after US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
"I will announce here and no one before you knows that Mr Modi will visit Palestine," the ambassador, Adnan A Alihaij, told Rajya Sabha TV. But he didn't say when that visit would happen.
Statement seems to be along the lines of "PM will visit Palestine in the fullness of time, at the appropriate juncture, when all the planets align". But it is not the GoI that has made this statement -- so palestinians can be happy that India is on their side, and Israelis can also be happy that India is on their side also. India is on both sides at the same time, as we should be.India reacted to Trump's announcement by saying its position on Palestine is independent, consistent and not determined by any third country.
"India's position on Palestine is independent and consistent. It is shaped by our views and interests, and not determined by any third country," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

What a brave young boy.
http://www.asianage.com/metros/mumbai/0 ... visit.htmlBaby Moshe ‘emotional, excited’ about Mumbai visit
Jerusalem: Moshe Holtzberg, the Israeli child who as a toddler survived the 2008 terror attack at a Jewish centre in Mumbai, is feeling “emotional and excited” as he prepares for his “homecoming” during the four day visit to India by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week.
Moshe, 11, was two when his parents were killed in the Mumbai attacks at Nariman House (also known as Chabad House) by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.
The attack on the Nariman House and other locations like the Taj Hotel left 166 people dead.
The boy, standing and crying between his dead parents’ bodies, was saved in a daring move by his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuels, who was hiding in a room downstairs when the attack happened.
“Moshe is very excited and at the same time emotional as he gets ready to leave for Mumbai on January 15. He is returning to his birthplace and is waiting to see many things connected to his late parents that he has heard about from us and his nanny. There are lots of memories,” an overwhelmed Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg, Moshe’’s grandfather, said.
In an emotional meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 5 in Jerusalem, the young boy had expressed his wish to visit Mumbai.
“I hope I will be able to visit Mumbai, and when I get older, live there. I will be the director of our Chabad House,” Moshe had told the Indian Prime Minister.
Modi had responded by saying, “Come and stay in India and Mumbai. You are most welcome. You and your all family members will get long-term visas. So you can come anytime and go anywhere”.
Netanyahu then promptly asked Moshe to join him when he travels to India, a promise he did not forget and has invited the family to join him in Mumbai during his forthcoming visit to India starting on January 14.

Re: Indo-Israel: News and Discussion
Lots of Indian commies and islamists are going to be triggered.
Re: Indo-Israel: News and Discussion
As expected the anti-national power hungry Congi Goons have taken the lead and have found fault of all things in Modi giving a hug to Netanyahu.
Guess they would prefer being around mullahs in exploding jackets or Mani Iyer giving jhappi to Kasuri.

Israeli perspective of what they want from us. A share in the arms import pie, a share in the Indian defence modernisation pie & de-hyphenation of Palestine-Israel & reduced ties with Iran. Well, about the last, they seem to be a bit more pragmatic.

Journalist Shekhar Gupta reminisces about a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu way back in January 1992:
Much to learn from India, starting with making tea: Netanyahu when he hopped in my car

Re: Indo-Israel: News and Discussion
There was a v.good panel discussion on tv with Sub.Swamy, ex-diplomat/ MP Pawan Verma, Manisth Tewari, etc. They traced the steady Indo-Israeli improvement in relations from Independence as the world balance of power changed. However, there was always a covert relatonship that exisyed becos of the Arab/ Muslim nations siding with Pak against India. That finally led to formal ties and the situ today. All agreed it was a positive development.
However words of caution from them. Previously high tech was obtained from Israel during post P-2 sanctions.zNow high tech available from anywhere after the N- deal.Alternatives to just Israel for the same.Second and most important, Israel's relationship with China.V.close.It long ago sold China the tech of the Lavi fighter based on the US F- 16 and says much the same things to China as it is doing now to India.China has a much bigger purse to buy from Israel and marginalize us in the pecking g order of importance .
Also pl.
remember that Israel puts its interests always first.Decades ago it sold patrol craft to SL a d was training its sailors on operating them in Israel, while in the very next compound it was training the LTTE how to destroy them.Mr.Modi should not go overboard in the relationship.India's interests must come first and the relationship should be mutually beneficial, going beyond mere defence , water management and agricultural sectors but expand to cultural exchanges so that there is more ordinary people to people contact which will be mord lasting than a govt. to govt. business relationship.
That is also what ails the Indo- Russian relationship which its late ambassador Kadakin spoke of improving when he first became ambassador.

To be fair to the Nehru Gandhi Family Dynasty led Congress Party, this finding fault with the hug of Israeli PM Netanyahu by our Prime Minister Modi has a lot less to do with pseudo secular Mohammadden communal vote bank appeasement politics and a lot more to do with taking a dig at our PM Modi, as other hugs of other foreign figures by our PM Modi have also been panned.
