BRFites need to have a look at these pages and add some missing info if possible.
I've done a bit but it is beyond the job of one person.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Party_of_India_
(Marxist-Leninist)_People%27s_War
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maoist_Com ... e_of_India
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naxalite

the articles make out as if these orgs are some social organizations fighting for justice against the tyranny of the government, which is hardly the case, IMO.

while we are at it, it won't hurt to clean up the mainstream communist party wikipages to incorporate the anti-national activities they have indulged in.

From todays DeccanHerald:
American questioned

The Orissa police on Wednesday questioned an American national in connection with the ongoing naxal activities in industrial township of Kalinga Nagar in coastal Jajpur district and another coastal district of Jagatsinghpur, reports DHNS from Bhubaneswar.

According to the police sources, American national David Pheug was detained on Tuesday night while travelling in a car near Kalinga Nagar along with three others including a woman. The woman identified as Pratima Das turned out to be a hardcore naxal operating in Kalinga Nagar and Jagatsinghpur district. She has been arrested and handed over to the Jagatsinghpur district police for further questioning.

Kerala observes 80th shutdown in 6 months
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Acquiring the reputation of a state observing frequent strikes, Left-ruled Kerala was shut down again on Wednesday for the 80th time in the last six months.

Whether the hartals or strikes are called by the Left, Right or Centrist parties, Kerala perhaps is the only state where they are bound to have a total impact. Bandhs were banned by the Kerala High Court after a public interest litigation several years ago.

Documentation of the hartal and strikes shows that with today's all-India strike called by the Left trade unions, the number of shutdowns enforced in the state in the last six months has touched 80. Of course, some of them were local, some district-level and a few statewide.

While last month's Sangh Parivar sponsored All-India bandh over the Amarnath issue caused little disruption in BJP-ruled Gujarat, it did cripple normal life in Kerala where the saffron party is yet to prove its electoral clout.

Statistics on shutdowns compiled by the portal 'hartal.com' show that this form of protest was not the preserve or political parties or trade unions.

A couple of months ago it was the turn of traders to force a commercial shutdown as part of their campaign against entry of big retail chains in the state.

The visit of former US president Bill Clinton to India sparked a naxalite hartal a few months ago while political parties vied with each other in calling hartal against execution of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"None of the neighbouring states are affected by the strikes or hartals while even a small incident could spark this kind of protest in Kerala. Who is going to benefit out of this. As far as one could see, the economy is affected and livelihood of the commonman is affected", M R Narayanan, a leading businessman, said.

The said Swamiji had been actively campaigning against Xtian missionaries. There was an attempt on his life a few months ago - Saraswati had accused a local Congress leader. Could be a convert/red sympathiser.

It is pity that even after knowing all the possibility of attack on him, the government didnt provide him with adequate security. Government absolutely no respect to life of people. Naxal snake should be crushed with help of armed forces or else it will eventually grow stronger.

Left-ruled Kerala was shut down again on Wednesday for the 80th time in the last six months.

if we take a month as 22 working days, 6 months have 132 working days.

if 80 days are taken out, only 52 days ie roughly 35% is left.

no wonder Dileep loves staying in Kochi....sounds like plenty of free time
to pursue hobbies, time for family, travel, rum...

Radhakrishnan applies for VRS after he’s hounded for standing up to Marxism

Have no choice: K S Radhakrishnan

SHAJU PHILIP

Kochi, August 25: Kallumadathil Sukumaran Radhakrishnan first ventured into the choppy waters off Kochi with fellow fishermen when he was nine. That was how he managed to find money to support his family and education. He did that for 15 years till he finished his post-graduation in philosophy and found a lecturer’s job.

But even his long struggle with hunger, poverty and the waves of the Arabian Sea did not prepare Radhakrishnan, now the Vice-Chancellor of Kerala’s Sree Sankara Sanskrit University, for the fight with the CPM.

Haunted by the CPM-led government and the persistent persecution by its affiliated organizations, Radhakrishnan, 53, has decided to opt out, with two years to go for retirement.

As his four-year deputation to the university gets over in four months, the philosophy reader at Maharaja’s College, Kochi, has applied for voluntary retirement. “I am scared of going back to the college. My family and I still face threat from partymen (CPM workers). As a VC, I can get police protection any time. But as an ordinary professor, I will be vulnerable to assaults,” says Radhakrishnan.

Such has been the CPM-sponsored attack on him that Radhakrishnan says he has no choice. The CPM has used every weapon possible: character assassination, vigilance probe, physical assault and sustained campaigns.

Why did they go after Radhakrishnan? In a state where intellectuals are equated with the Left, Radhakrishnan has been an outsider. He has spoken out against the CPM and its policies. In his student days, he was an activist of the student wing of the Congress and is still friends with several of its leaders. Through his writings and speeches, Radhakrishnan has often attacked the party’s ideology.

Radhakrishnan was appointed VC by the Congress-led United Democratic Front government in 2004.

On his fourth day in office, SFI activists burnt his effigy. They were backed by the teachers’ union affiliated to the CPM. That was followed by a charge of sexual harassment. When two women research scholars met him to extend the time of closing the gate of the ladies hostel by two hours, Radhakrishnan asked the girls whether it would be a cause of concern to their parents.

His detractors in the university latched on to that question and the scholars were asked to register complaints with the police, State Women’s Commission and the University. At the end of a high-decibel campaign, the issue died down.

A corruption charge came next. Radhakrishnan was dragged to a vigilance case over a decision taken by the university’s Syndicate. Left unions alleged that it was the VC’s decision. Despite the Accountant-General’s report, which gave him a clean chit, the Education Minister’s office ordered a vigilance probe. “Education Minister and CPM Central Committee member M A Baby promised to look into the matter within 15 days. But he never did so,” recalls Radhakrishnan, who had to move the High Court to get a stay on the probe.

Minister Baby, when contacted, said it was unbecoming of a VC to raise such “baseless allegations.” On the vigilance probe, Baby said the inspection report from the Finance Department had found financial irregularities.

His worst crisis came in 2006 when he transferred a CPM union leader over alleged financial irregularities. For 18 days, the university was turned into a battleground. The office was shut for 10 days and the VC was not allowed to enter the campus. Radhakrishnan got calls that threatened to kill his two daughters. For six months, police provided security to his entire family.

The latest: The government sat on his request for permission to attend an international conference on philosophy in Seoul. He applied for permission a month before the meet and the clearance reached him on August 4, the day the conference ended.

Baby said it was up to the Chancellor (Governor) to give sanction. “The Government only advises the Chancellor. The Chancellor had issued the sanction on August 1,” he said.

“As a student of philosophy, I have been always against communism. But for that, the party should not have tortured me like this,” says Radhakrishnan.

amit, can we continue in the red menace thread ?? I would like your inputs on the implications
of MB joining hands with the maoist factions in the state.
Rahul this is the first time i am hearing this allegation of mamata and maoists being behen-bhai. mamata being close to a pro-islamist group in WB is known but this joining hands with maoists is something new i'm hearing today.

In other news,WB bourgeois fighting back
Singur (WB), Sept 3 (PTI) A day after the Tatas announced suspension of work at the small car plant in Singur, incidents of brickbatting were reported when a rally in support of the Tata project turned violent. A 250-strong group of local suppliers to the Tata small car project took out a rally from Ratanpur carrying placards demanding that Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee leave Singur and work resume at the project site. :D

When the police prevented them from moving forward, the rallyists threw brickbats at the Trinamool Congress supporters. Tension prevailed in the area but the situation was under control, police added.

The problem with Mamata is that she's terrible at organisation and also very gullible. That's the reason why Trinamool has never been able to tranform grassroots support into seats.

The Maoists have very cleverly utilised her gullibility to get close to her, just as the Islamists have done previously at Nandigram. Personally she's neither Leftist nor an Islamist in the sense Mullah Yadav is. But she's susceptible to flattery, something that is well-known in circles that matter.

Since the Trinamool is virtually a one leader party there's no one to shield her from the super crafty Maoists and assorted unscrupulous NGO types who constantly look for issue so that their funding remains. Previously she had a number of pretty shrewd lieutenants, one by one they've all drifted apart from her.

It's a pity really. If Mamata could have cultivated a good organisation man as her No2, she could actually have achieved her goal of dislodging the CPI(M).

Instead she's only involving herself in these senseless agitations. If the Tata project shifts out, she going to lose all the 16 or so gram panchayats that Trinamool controls in the Singur region, that's for sure.

rahul this is not an ideological tie-up which could be deemed serious. this is hiring of some goondas(in this case maoists) to prevent the tata workers from entering the factory.
mamata and maoists are unnatural allies.
mamata and maoists are pandering to same votebank of deathbed commies(those who were brainwashed into believing that communism will 'liberate' them but are still waiting to see that 'liberation').
mamata may be dumb but not so dumb to allow her votebank to be cut.

amit you are asking for trouble here. if mamata had an organisation then she would have turned the whole of west bengal into singur. daily torching of buses during the night so that free roshini can be provided to the masses, dharnas against the state transport buses because in some remote village in WB the conductor did not give 50paise change, catching hold of factory managers and their public lynching to 'teach' the capitalists a lesson( i know this is a regular commie tactic but most of mamta's ideas and ideology are borrowed from the commies).
it is boon that she doesn't have many camp followers. right now when she has so less followers she is causing so much damage to west bengal, think what would have happened if she had some more followers.

she can be called a emotional fool who lets her emotions control her speech but she's not so dumb, if she was then the commies who are having sleepless nights now would be going around and bragging of how all people of bengal adore them since there is no opposition in bengal to their rule.

The threat from the Naxalites/Maoists has been allowed to fester for years with precious little being done to cut the ground from under the raison-d'etre of the Naxalite movement, the caring for the poorest of the poor. The established Leftists, like the CPI/CPM are today scant followers of the theories or ideology of Karl Marx, rather, they resemble more the antics of another Marx,by name Groucho! Thanks to our democratic constitution, any brand of leftist ideology is to be welcomed as long as they forgo the bullet for the ballot. It is so ironic today to see a "Marxist" govt. in Bengal batting and battling it out for capitalist Tata,no matter if his group are capitalists with a conscience. The antics of another follower of Marx the latter,Mamata,"conservation expert",shows how we can keep our country conserved in the bullock cart age.

However, the issue is a serious one that has ramifications across the country, the stealing by fair and foul means of land belonging to the lowest sections of society, the STs and SCs.For a pittance, much of their land is being swallowed up by land grabbers using a variety of methods. These and other deprivations that the poorest face without relief from their elected masters has made them desperate to the extent of forgoing the ballot for the bullet. If we do not succour their needs,we will have to face the music of a martial kind.

PS:Agent provacateurs are indeed making hay while the country burns. The CIA are past masters at using and funding Communist/Leftist groups to subvert democratic regimes,so that dictatorial, authoritarian ones can be installed to meet this threat. It is an old game,"wagging the dog",that has been played out across Asia since the end of WW2.

rahul, yes maoists in small numbers were present in nandigram but they did not receive support from TC. there have allegations from commie sources about the nexus between the 2 but till now no concrete evidence. TC knew that if they aligned with maoists the commies in writer's building would use it as a ruse to ban them and crush them.

To help Maoists, activists criticise Salwa Judum

Intellectuals and human rights activists have been peddling fiction as fact about the tribals' movement against Maoist violence, says Vishwa Ranjan

In March 2006, the Asian Centre for Human Rights was the first organisation to castigate Salwa Judum and demanded that it should be closed down. It did not find it fit to mention what would be the fate of Salwa Judum activists after they returned to their villages. Would the Maoists spare them? They did not spare the activists of Jan Jagaran Abhiyan when they returned to their villages. During May 17-22, 2006, Independent Citizen's Initiative visited Bastar on a five-day tour and criticised Salwa Judum.

In June 2006, the Polit Bureau of the CPI (Maoist) described the Salwa Judum as the greatest setback which the revolutionary movement had faced since 1972. It also resolved to isolate and crush the movement at all levels. This was followed by a plethora of study teams visiting Bastar to castigate Salwa Judum at various levels.

Again in December 2006, a report, Salwa Judum and Violence on Women in Dantewada, prepared by a fact-finding women's team, was published. This team was constituted by the Committee Against Violence on Women of which Ms Soma Sen (wife of Maoist leader Tusharkanti Bhattacharya) is an active member. Another report, Death, Displacement and Deprivation in Dantewada was published by Human Rights Forum.

The Maoist decision to isolate and crush the Salwa Judum movement at every level had started to bear results. All the reports try to make out a case that there has been accretion in violence in Bastar region because of Salwa Judum.

But no one has bothered to notice that every organ of Government had receded from the areas which were under Maoist dominance for 10 to 15 years due to the violence. No one cared that doctors had run away from primary health centres and schools, roads, bridges, etc, were destroyed by the Maoists long before the Salwa Judum movement started.

In January 2007, the supporting network of the Maoists further stepped up their opposition to the Salwa Judum movement. The High Court and the Supreme Court were moved to ban Salwa Judum. A lie was spread across the country that relief camps are actually Salwa Judum camps. The truth that Salwa Judum supporters form only a small component of those who live in relief camps was glossed over. Another lie blown out of proportion was that villagers were forced into relief camps by security forces and Salwa Judum activists.

It was suggested that Salwa Judum had increased tribal strife. It's only natural that in a tribal area revolt against Maoist oppression would primarily be by the tribals. After all people from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh or Haryana would not come to Bastar to revolt against the Maoist oppression in the area.

It was let out by the pro-Maoist network that tribals were being forced to live in the camps against their wishes. No one bothered to mention that the Maoists were killing relief camp dwellers when they went to the weekly market or visited their villages. The Maoists were also able to convince journalists and others that Salwa Judum is state-sponsored.

Is there any example anywhere in the world where 60,000 people have been sponsored by the Government to lead a movement for over three years? Yes, the state has a responsibility towards the displaced people who in the 23 relief camps. Since the Maoists have been targeting them, the state has to protect them. The state is also within its rights to support the principles on which Salwa Judum is organised.

Analysis of the reports of the various study teams makes it clear that a major part of the 'findings' is based on allegations and assertions. The purpose was to 'crush' the Salwa Judum movement at all levels as was decreed by the by the Maoist leadership.

Avinash, from whatever inputs I got, TMC certainly acted jointly with the naxals in nandigram.
of course LF says much more than what really happened but the naxals were in nandigram with the knowledge and active support of the TMC.
TC knew that if they aligned with maoists the commies in writer's building would use it as a ruse to ban them and crush them.
which is why the nandigram nexus is kept under the lid, unlike the hand holding with over ground maoists which is declared openly.

Rahul,
I honestly cant tell the difference between Naxals and CPI-M
Both are anti-democratic, except that while Naxals dont believe in elections, CPI-M rigs elections

Arundhati Roy, Purefool, Sandeep Pandey, Angana, FOIL all have a whole lot of people who flit freely between naxal and CPI-M

Swami's killing exposes link between Maoist and minority community alleges Mahanta Krushna Chandra
Bhubaneswar ( Orissa) : The killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati who spearheaded the campaign against the religious conversion and cow slaughter in the tribal dominated district of Kandhamal for four decades, establishes the link between the Maoists with the minority community alleged Mahanta Krushna Charan Dash Goswami, president of the Matha Mandir Surakhsya Parishad.

Goswami was here at the city on his way to Kandhamal to attend the funeral of Swami Laxmanananda at Chakapada in Kandhamal district.

Speaking to the newspersons, Goswami stated that the minority community had been trying to diminish the Sanatana Dharma into a mere minority though its a majority one in the country.

They were targeting the innocent tribal people and converting them and Swami Laxmanananda had been trying to prevent such type activities against the Sanatana Dharma he said.

Swami was symbol of the Sanatana Dharma and had successfully stood for this cause to protect the interest of the millions of people having faith in the Sanatana Dharma based on the principles of Hindu religion, Goswami stated.

He further said that a community that was minority in the Kandhamal district was becoming a majority through its conversion activities. And Swami was an obstacle for the minority community, as he could organizes the Hindu people and had successfully reconverted the people into the Hindu fold.

Finding no way out to stop such a man who was preventing conversion in the district and had been the symbol of faith, the minority community with the help of the Maoists had killed him at his Ashram located in the Kandhamal district, alleged Goswami.

He also alleged that that some of the politicians were hand in glove with the Maoists and the minority community.

The administration could not provide the required security despite the threat to his life as he had already lodged an FIR in the nearest police station following the letter allegedly being written by the Maoists.

Swami was killed by the assailants who were having the links with the Maoists as they were carrying the AK 47 guns which were often used by such groups, certainly not by anti socials, alleged Goswami.

With the death of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, a strong pillar of the Sanatana Dharma had been destroyed, Goswami opined.

Goswami also went to the extent of asking the credentials of the UPA Govt. at the Centre which is maintaining silent and were not reacting to such a brutal killing of a religious leader happened to be the symbol of Hindu faith.

Largest Naxal party rebukes Trinamool
Friday , September 05, 2008

Kolkata, September 4 At a time when Naxal groups are demonstrating along with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee against the Tata Motors’ small car factory in Singur, CPI-ML (Liberation) — the largest Naxal party — vociferously criticised the Mamata brigade on Thursday.

The party criticised Mamata and her followers for siding with land owners, without sparing a thought for the landless labourers and unrecorded bargadars (those with no-eviction rights).

“She is only speaking about land owners in Singur. Why are they silent about the landless labourers and others? Those who are demonstrating in Singur and claim to be Naxals should fight for landless labourers,” said Kartik Pal, Politburo member of CPI-ML (Liberation).

According to a survey conducted by the party, there are 300 people who are either landless labourers or unrecorded bargadars in Singur.

“A number of them are absentee landowners who have already received payment for their land. But the agricultural labourers have got nothing. Neither Mamata Banerjee nor the state government is thinking about them,” Pal added.

At present, small Naxal groups are sharing the dias with Mamata in Singur. They include CPI-ML (SOC) led by Purnendu Bose and Dola Sen, CPI-ML (ND) led by Paltu Sen.

The CPI-ML (Liberation) welcomed the move by Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi to mediate over the issue, but added that the fate of the landless labourers should also be considered. The party will hold a rally in Singur on September 10 in this connection.

Narayana's post in the Caucus thread:
The US today doesn't care a fig about Communism, and is in fact blind to the huge and growing threat from COMMUNISM. However, a lot of Americans automatically believe anything bad about RUSSIA.

The blindness to Communism in the highest levels of the US security establishment is what is setting the stage for WW3, as the really hate-filled Communists such as the Indian CPI(M), their Nepali buddies, the Chinese anti-humans, the Phillippine "rebels" etc. with the French, British and Australian "Academicians" have ganged up with the Islamists to destroy all democracies.

When asked about the Communist threat, a very senior US diplomat and phoren policy/ security Expert told me:

Quote:
For my lifetime, and probably for yours, Communism is not going to be a threat

The US is blind to this threat. Look carefully at the growing movements all around, in Columbia University, U. Cal Berkeley, CIIS, CA, Trinity College, CT, Ryder U., NJ, Oberlin College, OH, and numerous other universities and petty colleges, and you will see that the most virulent forms of Communism and not just being "tolerated" but are proliferating very rapidly, and with excellent funding from the oil-rich Islamists AND the export-rich Chinese People's Liberation Army.

OTOH, while McCarthy is long dead, his style of trampling on the US Constitution is also alive and well.. but as usual, the DHS pandoos are focused on the wrong people, and spend their time football-tackling airline passengers at the TSA security line who are a bit slow in removing their shoes, or who get up to to go the restroom on airplanes.

It's almost as bad as the persecution of the lal mullahs at BRF.
If every JNU leftie became a communist for life, we would be ruled by them in Delhi. Same goes for US.

Even the public sector parasites in India that shout slogans and carry red flags do not all vote commies. For them holding red flag and shouting is just a nice way of looting the exchequer without doing any work, but in their hearts they know it is not good for the country which is why they vote elsewhere (other than hardcores of course). And that is why Commies have not managed to do well electorally except in pockets.

Not to say communism is a threat to be ignored but it is thoroughly defeated ideologically. Commies are themselves convinced it is dead. Or we would not have our commies forming rapist goon squads to secure land for a ugly capitalist chinese tycoon.

Is the tide turning? Will the domestic servants start calling the Staliinists openly as tools of China without approval from the dynasty? Or are they talking out of turn? Ever since the closet commie Arjun Singh was openly called a sycophant, Congress seems to be moving right.

Rs 500 crore for Naxalite-hit zones
12 Sep 2008, 1839 hrs IST,PTI

HYDERABAD: The Union government has decided to spend about Rs 500 crore to boost economic development
in Naxalite-infested areas, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said.

By ensuring economic development in Naxalite-hit regions, the government hopes to wean away youth from Left-wing extremism, besides generating infrastructure necessary for policing, he said.

As per the plan, the government would encourage industries, agriculture and ensure social justice so that people get employment and are happy, Patil said.

The government is also strengthening Central Paramilitary Forces to effectively counter challenges of terrorism and Naxalism among others, the Minister said.

The Central government has also asked state governments to modernise and strengthen their police forces to effectively maintain law and order, he said.

Patil was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function to mark 60 years of inception of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here.

The Home Minister reviewed an impressive parade by more than 170 IPS officer trainees in two batches, including 30 women officers.

Addressing the gathering, Patil said the nation is facing challenges like terrorism, communalism and Left wing extremism, making the role of police officers more complex.
