The Bangladesh Air Force has finalised the procurement of armed unmanned aerial systems with the tender to be opened on 12 February 2018 after it was rescheduled for undisclosed reasons.

The concerned authorities shortlisted the Chinese CH-5B and Wing Loong II
2. Supposedly a squadron of J-10C and 23 K-8W were signed for in a deal last year. New K-8s were spotted at Jessore as proof of deal. Also BAF pilots reported training in Cheen.

3. Rumored heavy fighter squadron being bought for Cox’ Bazar. Buzz is that these will be Su-30SMEs.

Can they afford all this? Probably not but they are being pushed by Myanmar getting new Su-30s and JF-17s.

BD has a Vision 2020 plan wherein they planed buying Mig29s. Think they bought 4 and then stopped due to lack of funds. Maybe we are seeing a restart of the sane.

If they can’t afford more than four MiG-29s, they won’t be able to afford a squad of J-10s and Su-30s, one would think.

The 23 nominally advanced K-8W trainers seem a lot. They already have 13 very new advanced Yak 130s (after crashing 3.)

Maybe they are ramping up training for an influx of modern fighters.

The Rohingya Suffer Real Horrors. So Why Are Some of Their Stories Untrue?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/01/worl ... camps.html

"I was reporting on children who had arrived in the camps without their families. An international charity, which had given financial support to the uncle, brought me to meet the girls.

Within an hour, I had a notebook filled with the kind of quotes that pull at heartstrings. Little of it was true.

After three days of reporting, the truth began to emerge. Soyud Hossain, the supposed uncle who had taken the girls in, was actually their father. He had three wives, two in Bangladesh and one in Myanmar, he admitted. The children were from his youngest wife, the one in Myanmar."

Bangladesh ex-PM Khaleda Zia jailed amid clashes
Bangladeshi police have clashed with thousands of protesters, as opposition leader Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years for corruption.
Ms Zia, a former prime minister, denies misusing international funds donated to a charitable children's trust. The jail sentence may mean the 72-year-old is barred from parliamentary polls due later this year. The case is one of dozens pending against Ms Zia, a long-time rival of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Ms Zia has described the charges against her as politically motivated. As she went into court, she told weeping relatives: "I will be back. Do not worry and be strong", according to the Daily Star. The verdict was read out in a court in Dhaka after police used tear gas to disperse thousands of her supporters.
Several police officers were injured in the violence, reports said.
The charges against her had already led to her boycotting elections in 2014, which triggered widespread protests at the time. For Thursday's verdict there was heightened security across the capital and other cities. Many shops and schools were shut, reports said.According to Ms Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), hundreds of its supporters were arrested in the run-up to the verdict.

Hope Zia is debarred from contesting elections by their court and her party splits into two so that Sheikh Hasina comes to power for another term and consolidate the gains her country has made in the regional relationships.

India to help build nuclear plant in Bangladesh - The Hindu
India, Bangladesh and Russia have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh.

“Today [Thursday] was a landmark event for both our countries — and the industry as a whole. We are confident that this is the first step towards the formation of a new, forward-looking cooperation agenda in the region,” said Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director-General for international relations of Rosatom, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.

The MoU was signed in Moscow by the Department of Atomic Energy of India, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh and Rosatom.

Russia is building the nuclear power plant in Bangladesh on a turnkey basis.

Indian companies can be involved in construction and installation works and in the supply of equipment of a non-critical category .

Just a disaster waiting to happen if the beedees ever complete this russian nuclear bomb — I mean, plant.

The bongs in West Bengal won’t be happy seeing a mushroom cloud from their wayward muzzie cousins.

And think of the ancillary effects of a meltdown.

Beyond the radiation possibly blowing westward, there will be 160 MIILION beedees running for safety in every which direction but mostly into India.

It will be scary f-ing ongoing nightmare if you ask me.

Bangladesh Police Say Writer was Attacked as 'Enemy of Islam'
Bangladeshi investigators said Sunday that a young man accused of stabbing a celebrated secular writer at a seminar had targeted him as "an enemy of Islam". Saturday's attack on Zafar Iqbal in the northern city of Sylhet was just the latest in a series of stabbings of secular or atheist authors and bloggers in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose government has waged a fierce crackdown on homegrown extremism in recent years, blamed "religious fanatics" for the assault.Iqbal, a longstanding champion of free speech and secularism, remains in a stable condition after being flown to a military hospital in Dhaka with stab wounds to his head.Police detained 21-year-old Faizul Hasan, a former Islamic seminary student, and were investigating any ties to the radical groups.
Police said Hasan, whose father was a teacher at an Islamic seminary, may have had links to extremists blamed for attacks on secular and atheist writers in the last four years.
Bangladesh's government has provided security for top secular writers and activists since Islamist extremists named them in several lists of targets.

Nobody likes their much bigger neighbour, especially one that surrounds their country on 3 sides. India has not been able to meet even its commitments on water. That said, they merely dislike compared to Pakistan/China's zero sum game mentality. Dislike can be worked with.

Compared to India's buddhist and hindu neighbours are not into taqiya ? There's no way to stop infiltration other than making it needless financially. It is important for India to bind south asia, bar pakistan of course, into a common market.

Research, read and understand before batting for "neighbours" and "common market".

This is not about mere word play or some starry eyed, pacifist outlook.

It's not disliking but an integral part of their ideology and religion.

Also, for those alive, circumcision is mandatory, not optional.

Again, I am not saying this, they are and have been saying so for centuries. Forced migration is a planned part of all this, and for the beedis, their self claimed lebensraum.
Ghazwa-e-Hind or the final battle of India is an Islamic term mentioned in some "good" hadiths in particular predicting a final and last battle in India and as a result, a conquest of the whole Indian sub-continent by Muslim warriors.
Demography has already changed in the northeast and is continuing to change in many other parts of India.

We need to learn from UK and europe and not make their fatal mistakes here too before it becomes too late to for us to retrace our steps.
India has not been able to meet even its commitments on water.
BTW, they think that we are foolish enough to ink another fiasco just like a "beedi" version of the IWT with them. They are not entitled to even a fraction of what they are asking nay demanding.

Doesn't look like a genocide to me. Do you have any information to show that the attacks on hindus in bangladesh are substantially more than the attacks on muslims in india ?

A LOT AT STAKE AS DHAKA NEARS ELECTION
A LOT AT STAKE AS DHAKA NEARS ELECTION

Saturday, 17 March 2018 | Hiranmay Karlekar |

A lot at stake as Dhaka nears election

The outcome of parliamentary election in Bangladesh will hugely impact India. It must, therefore, strengthen Sheikh Hasina's position as the BNP’s return to power is bound to spell trouble

As parliamentary elections approach in Bangladesh — polls are due by December end — India must ponder the implications of the possible outcome. While the odds seem to favour Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League’s return to power for the third time in succession, New Delhi cannot rule out an upset victory by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Begum Khaleda Zia.

The first thing to recognise is that while the Awami League Governments have been friendly towards India, the coalition Government, headed by the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh (Jamaat) from 2001 to 2006, was intensely hostile and the BNP Government in power from 1991 to 1996, marginally less so. One may cite here an instance of the difference in their attitudes towards this country and another of the BNP’s proneness to use every possible occasion to whip up anti-India sentiments.

As to the first, both BNP and the BNP-Jamaat-led coalition Governments had vigorously continued the policy of the preceding military dictatorships of providing shelter, funds, weapons and training to secessionist insurgent groups of north-eastern India like the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the All-Tripura Tiger Force, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) of Manipur, and the National-Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah)-NSCN (I-M).

Bangladesh’s BNP-Jamaat coalition Government not only sheltered and provided these groups but mocked at India’s well-documented claims of its doing so. The country’s then Foreign Minister, Morshed Khan, provided a striking example of this during his speech inaugurating the ‘India-Bangladesh Dialogue of Young Journalists’ at Dhaka on September 7, 2004. Referring to India’s claim that North-East Indian insurgents had 195 camps in Bangladesh, he had said, “The list of insurgent camps from their side increases at every meeting between us. But they have not been able to provide a single telephone number or address of these camps.”

Even while dismissing India’s claim about the insurgent camps, Morshed Khan, let slip a remark, suggesting that Bangladesh knew that India was vulnerable in the north-eastern States. He said during the same September speech, that though Bangladesh was “India-locked”, Delhi had “also to remember that its north-eastern States” were “Bangladesh-locked.” Not only that, reflecting the Khaleda Zia Government’s policy of stoking disaffection and secessionism in the region, he had said in the speech, “It costs 40 per cent more for north-eastern India’s States to buy most construction goods from Kolkata or other western cities than it would have cost them to buy those from Bangladesh.” He also blasted the “Central Bank of India” (the Reserve Bank of India?) for acting unilaterally against the interests of the common people of north-eastern States by imposing non-tariff barriers such as not allowing individual States to open Letters of Credit without Delhi’s permission.

It is hardly surprising that with an important Minister speaking mockingly and minatorily, lesser functionaries would also do the same. Thus, Major-General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Khan Chowdhury, the then Director-General of the para-military Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) — now Border Guards Bangladesh — visiting India for talks with the then Director-General of India’s Border Security Force (BSF), Ajay Raj Sharma, had said in Delhi on September 28, 2004, “There is not a single [insurgent] camp in Bangladesh. We looked for camps’ locations given in the BSF’s list. Some of the addresses were of our cantonment area and our headquarters. Some of these addresses even pertained to the Bay of Bengal.”

In sharp contrast, Sheikh Hasina has closed down insurgent camps in Bangladesh and handed over to India several important rebel leaders, exposing as lies what the BNP leaders had been saying about the camps as well as the fact that they were actively supporting secessionist insurgencies in India’s North-East.

The second instance is the turn the BNP-Jamaat Government sought to give to the grenade attack on the Awami League’s rally in Dhaka on August 21, 2004. Held to protest against bomb attacks on Awami League supporters in Sylhet in north-eastern Bangladesh, the murder of Tushar, a leader of the party’s students’ organisation, Bangladesh Chhatra League, and atrocities on its leaders and supporters throughout the country, it was addressed by Sheikh Hasina, then president, Awami League, and the leader of the Opposition in Bangladesh’s Jatiya Sansad or National Parliament, and attended by most of the party’s presidium members, and the president and general secretary of the Mahanagar (Metropolitan, ie Dhaka) Awami League.

A deadly grenade attack began just after Sheikh Hasina had finished her speech, severely condemnatory of the actions of the BNP-Jamaat coalition Government, and was about to leave the venue. The time was 5.22 pm. It was cold-blooded slaughter. The number of the dead eventually rose to 24, and of the wounded to over 300. The aim was to hobble the Awami League by wiping out its top leadership. Sheikh Hasina had a close shave but had her hearing impaired. Several critically-injured senior leaders of the party were hospitalised. One of them, Ivy Rahman, leader of the Awami League’s womens’ affairs wing and wife of Zillur Rahman, then general secretary of the Awami League and later President of Bangladesh, died in hospital on August 24.

There was sharp criticism at home and abroad. The BNP-Jamaat Government ordered an inquiry into the outrage. Joinul Abedin, a former High Court judge heading it, was asked to submit a report within three weeks. Abedin, a former BNP leader who was appointed without any consultation with the opposition, submitted his report on October 2, 2004. It was not made public. He, however, said at a Press briefing just before submitting the report that neither the BNP nor the Awami League nor Jamaat, nor any other fundamentalist Islamist organisation, was responsible for the attack; agents of a foreign country were. Abedin did not identify the foreign country or its agents but through innuendoes and false associations, clearly suggested that it was India.

Subsequent developments have exposed the hollowness of Abedin’s observations. As long, however, as the BNP-Jamaat Government was in power, the investigation seemed to be deliberately not focusing on the guilty and the forces behind them, failing to frame a young man, Shoibal Shaha Partho, they forced one Joi Miah to confess that a criminal gang called Seven Star Group had carried out the attack.

Genuine investigations began after Bangladesh’s Army had staged a coup on January 12, 2007, and replaced by a new one the BNP-Jamaat Government-appointed caretaker Government for holding the parliamentary elections. These concluded that the terrorist organisation Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI) Bangladesh had carried out the attack, which, according to Syed Rezaur Rahman, the chief prosecutor in the case that followed, was orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Directorate and the BNP-Jamaat coalition Government, which used the Bangladesh’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Directorate-General of Forces’ Intelligence (DGFI), National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Bangladesh Police to implement the plot.

Included among the 49 persons — 19 of whom are absconding — now being tried are personnel from the above organisations as well as BNP leaders like Tarique Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia’s son, Luftozzaman Babar, state Minister for Home and Abdus Salam Pintu, a Deputy Minister, in the BNP-Jamaat-led Government. There was no mention of India or any of its agents.

There are issues. Many in India are uneasy about Bangladesh’s growing ties with China — Hasina’s assurances that India has nothing to worry on this score, notwithstanding. The BNP’s return to power, however, will mean a hostile Government in Dhaka attempting, among other things, to foment trouble in the North East, and acting as a launching pad for the ISI’s terror strikes in India. New Delhi must, therefore, consider measures to strengthen Sheikh Hasina’s position within Bangladesh. An accord on Teesta waters could be a good beginning.

Delhi & Dhaka go into huddle as boat carrying ‘Chinese Arms’ seized in Bangladesh
In a sensational development, top Bangladeshi military officials have come under scanner of the Sheikh Hasina government after Chinese boats carrying arms entered Bangladesh waters and arms were smuggled into the country allegedly for local extremist groups and insurgent outfits in northeast India.

ET has learnt that no less than top leadership of the coast guard has come under scanner of Bangladesh government for its role in the alleged smuggling case. Dhaka has apprised Delhi of the latest development and is investigating the role of foreign powers in creating disturbance ahead of elections in Bangladesh. Security establishments of both sides are coordinating closely in this case

China has been trying to overthrow various govts in South East and South Asia with the aim of installing Thailand / Maldives type dictatorships which cater to its interests.

Singapore, Myanmar, Maldives, Nepal, Cambodia, Bangladesh..etc. have all been targets of such action.

1) Install dictator.
2) Get him to sign "infrastructure" deals which are in essence debt traps,
3) When country cannot pay, start taking over the economy and installing military bases.

Bangladesh does not have a “regional game changer” like CPEC aka the Conning Pakistan to Enrich China aka China Pakistan Economic Corridor to talk brag endlessly about nor indulgent john’s like the United States of America and the Peoples Republic of China, but they are doing a fine job in rapidly closing the per capita income gap created by the years of neo-colonial economic exploitation they as erstwhile East Pakistani’s were subject to by their fellow Momin Mohammaddens of the Punjabi Uniformed Jihadi Dominated Deep State of the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Ridding Bangladesh of the Mughal grandeur aspiring economic leeches of the Punjabi Uniformed Jihadi Dominated Deep State of the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan can be chalked down as one the many dividends of India’s liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 8) .

the beedis “regional game changer” is supposed to run through India and onward to nepal.

We are hell bent on fencing the border and controlling access to India.

That's got to hurt real bad.

Border is being fenced but transit is being opened. The Nepal-India-Bdesh transit corridor will make any connectivity through China worthless. It will be a trump card with India to make Nepal and Bdesh play ball.

So conscious in fact that the beedis actually come into India, in very large numbers, to doubly make sure that India is secure.

Hasina and her fellow beedis must be applauded for their dedicated concerns.

Can't ask for better neighbors, except maybe the equally concerned pakis.

Why did we have partition if people of Pak, B’desh want to come back: Subramanian Swamy
Aug 1, 2018
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy responded to a tweet by him which read, “India should tell B’Desh: “Take your people back who are illegally in India or give us back in proportion our land we gave to you in 1947 to settle Muslims who did not want to live in India then,” Swamy said, “The partition was on the basis, originally the English created partition for two countries, a Muslim ruled Pakistan and a Hindu ruled India.

'Extremely ill' Khaleda Zia admitted to Dhaka hospital

Al Jazeera
Oct 6, 2018
Jailed Bangladesh opposition leader and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has been admitted into a Dhaka hospital following a court order in response to her deteriorating health.
Zia, 73, was taken from the abandoned 19th-century prison where she is serving her sentence on corruption charges to a top medical university clinic in the heart of the capital on Saturday, according to an AFP news agency photographer at the scene.
"She has been admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital," director of the clinic Brigadier General Abdullah al-Harun told AFP.
Her transfer to the hospital came just days after the country's high court ordered immediate treatment for Zia after her lawyers argued the government was putting her health at risk by refusing her specialised care.
Zia was sentenced to five years for corruption in February, triggering clashes between police and thousands of supports of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which she heads. Lord Alex Carlile QC, a member of Zia's legal team, ( Is Pakistan funding some of her legal expenses, through London  ) told Al Jazeera her sentence is a "political ploy" meant to keep her out of elections that scheduled to take place in December.
She is the only inmate in Dhaka Central Jail that was built under British colonial rule and declared abandoned in 2016.Last month, authorities turned a room of the jail into a court - a move her lawyers said was illegal. Her party boycotted the 2014 election in which Hasina returned to power but is expected to contest the election due in December.

With the growth trajectory that BD economy is on, its export performance and population growth rate that is below India's, things have largely stabilized on the population migration issue across the border. If BDs choose to elect the other lady in next election, all bets are off! We must be prepared for the worst but as of now I like BD as the best neighbor that we have got!
