Hindu Temples and Homes in Bangladesh Are Attacked by Muslim Crowds
By Julfikar Ali Manik and Ellen Barry, Nov. 2, 2016

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Crowds of Muslims attacked Hindu homes and temples in eastern Bangladesh this week, raising concerns that the authorities are not taking steps to curb rising religious tensions.
Attacks on Hindus are not unusual in Bangladesh, but it is rare to see multiple crowds targeting temples in an organized way as they did on Sunday and Monday. The country’s human rights commission has initiated an inquiry into the episodes, which the panel’s chairman says appear to have been coordinated.
On Saturday, an Islamic group in Nasirnagar organized a protest against a Facebook post it found offensive. The post included an image of the Hindu god Shiva appearing at a Muslim holy site in the Saudi city of Mecca.
The crowd demanded that the young Hindu man who created the image be put to death. Nevertheless, the group was given permission to hold a rally the next day, and mosque loudspeakers were used to mobilize an even larger group, said Anjan Kumar Deb, the vice chairman of Nasirnagar subdistrict.

Bangladesh: the desirable candidate

With its growing economy based on a sustainable development model, Bangladesh assumes a special place in Turkey’s outreach to Asia. Turkey’s ongoing competition with Saudi-led block for primacy within the Islamic world also makes Bangladesh a desirable candidate to sway within its sphere of influence. In South Asia, Dhaka is Ankara’s second-highest trade partner after India, with a total trade volume of USD 1 billion in 2019 before the pandemic.

Further, President Erdogan intends to expand Turkey’s defence industrial base by boosting arms sales to USD 25 billion by 2023. Bangladesh could also become a critical market for the Turkish defence industry in the future. Turkey has already delivered the Otokar Cobra light armoured vehicle to the Bangladesh Army in 2013 and secured USD 1 billion contracts for 680 light armoured vehicles in 2017.In March 2019, Bangladesh signed a contract with a Turkish company, ROKETSAN for procuring medium-range guided multiple rocket launchers.Various training programs and military exercises further strengthen the defence links between the two nations.

Turkey’s unconditional support to Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue has significantly deepened the ties between the two countries. Turkey rallied behind Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue at various multilateral fora such as the UN, the G20, and the OIC. Further, Ankara through its state institutions such as the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), and other Turkish NGOs has built various facilities such as camps, hospitals, schools, and orphanages for refugees in Bangladesh.

How come a small country like Turkey can make and export so much military equipment while India, which history of defense manufacturing since British days, cannot do any export even to Bangladesh!!

https://www.defensenews.com/native/turk ... s-systems/

The defense industry within Turkey has specialized in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 armored platforms, tracked infantry fighting vehicles as well as main battle tanks and weapon systems are manufactured by local private companies like FNSS, Otokar, BMC and Nurol Makina. Besides its National Security Forces use of them, these systems are exported to a wide range of users worldwide. 8x8 PARS, 6x6 PARS, 6X6 ARMA; 4x4 COBRA, EJDER YALCIN, VURAN; ALTAY MBT and KAPLAN Medium Tanks are the most remarkable product samples of Turkish Defense Industry competing at the global markets.

An essential element of Turkey’s success has been its ability to take advantage of contributions from government and private industry. The government’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) was established in 1985, followed by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TAFF) in 1987. Born of the merger of many similar foundations, TAFF holds majority shares of several key, private defense companies in Turkey:

· ASELSAN, which integrates and modernizes ground weapon systems and C4ISR

· ROKETSAN, which produces technologies for propelled ammunition, guided ammunition, advanced missile systems and ballistic solutions

· HAVELSAN, which provides software, training simulations and system integration

· ASPİLSAN and İŞBİR, which focus on power and energy systems (such as generators and batteries) for land operations

· TURKISH AEROSPACE, which provides solutions for aviation and space

In addition, MKEK, a weapon and ammunition manufacturer, and ASFAT, which includes military factories, are both affiliated with the state but can carry out commercial activities. Established by SSB for design and production, STM is just one another critical company. Other private enterprises that have made a name in the firearms sector include: Kale, Sarsılmaz, Canik Arms and YDS.

70 pc of India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya fenced: BSF.

Seventy per cent of the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya has been fenced, a senior BSF official said here on Friday. Meghalaya Frontier BSF Inspector General Hardeep Singh said that the remaining work is also expected to be completed soon but clearance from the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) is required for fencing 13 stretches.

"Of Meghalaya's 443-km international border with Bangladesh, nearly 70 per cent has been fenced. Work is in progress in the unfenced stretches," he said.

Clearance is required from the BGB for fencing 13 stretches as these areas fall within 150 yards of the zero line, he said.We have already taken up the matter with them and hope to receive the clearance very soon after which the entire border will be fenced," Singh said.

Over 10,000 cattle and other items worth Rs 40 crore were seized along the border in the last one year, the BSF IG said.He said smugglers use unfenced stretches along the border to smuggle cattle and other items but BSF has heightened its vigil.

Singh, however, denied the presence of militant camps from across Northeast and Meghalaya in particular in neighbouring Bangladesh."There is no specific input about the presence of camps of insurgent outfits from the Northeast in Bangladesh. The BGB had informed us that there is no such camp," he said.

From an earlier report:

Sangma said that fencing work is ongoing along the 444.857 km of border Meghalaya shares with Bangladesh. Out of this, 329.160 km has been fenced, and work is on in 46.970 km.

In 12.318 km, fencing is not feasible, and in 60.533 km there is no fence. Sangma said objection from certain NGOs and locals stalled the fencing work on a large tract along the border. (NGO's being allowed to trump National security - This can happen only in India!!!!)

Bangladesh will move up to 3,000 more Rohingya Muslim refugees to a remote island in the Bay of Bengal this week despite complaints by rights groups concerned about the island’s vulnerability to storms and flooding.

Bangladesh has relocated about 3,500 Rohingya refugees from neighbouring Myanmar to Bhasan Char island since early December. They were previously sheltering in border camps where a million live in ramshackle huts perched on razed hillsides.

2 reasons
1. India DPSUs were systematically let to deteriorate to enjoy kickbacks, this coupled with tech denial regimes, and low R&D by them, unionization led to this. Things were availble from russia.
2. Turkey was bulwark of NATO during cold war and entered into US MIC big time. That spurred teh same for all countries, which did not have already (SoKo and Turkey being the most imp). Small and authoritarian govt helped it as well.

Indo-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade to improve trading between two nations.

The trade between India and Bangladesh will improve with the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade. Besides, it will also promote better connectivity with other neighbouring countries, said Union Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday.

In his message to Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry during shipping and logistics conclave, the union minister said that the protocol route is being operationalized. Goods movement between the north east and the neighbouring country, Bhutan using Chittagong port through National Waterways-2 has been tested. According to a PTI report, the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route will use NW-1 as well as NW-2 on the Indian side.

According to the Union Minister of State for Ports and Shipping, this waterway will connect land locked countries such as Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar to smoothen trade in the coming days. In Myanmar, Sittwe Port has been developed for greater connectivity for goods as well as cargo movement, Mandaviya further added. Meanwhile, Chairperson of Inland Waterways of India, Amita Prasad wondered why huge trucks ply for Indian Oil along with other refiners for transporting cargo between Haldia and the city of Kolkata and not use waterways, the report said.

Last year, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways had said that the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Republic of India have a long standing as well as time-tested Protocol on Transit and Trade through Inland Waterways of both nations. According to the ministry, this Protocol, which was first signed in the year 1972 (immediately after the independence of Bangladesh), is a reflection of friendship and shared history between the two nations. It was last renewed in the year 2015 for a period of five years with a provision for its automatic renewal for a further duration of five years providing long term assurance to various stakeholders, earlier the ministry had said.

Idols vandalised at five temples in Dinajpur

A group of unidentified miscreants has vandalised idols at five temples in Dinajpur's Chirirbandar upazila.

Locals found idols of the five temples damaged yesterday morning.

In the last five days, idols of at least 12 temples were vandalised in the upazila. All these temples are situated in the upazila's Abdulpur, Auliapukur and Saitara unions.

Tripura: BSF uses stun-grenades at suspected smugglers attempting to breach Indo-Bangla border.

In a third violent standoff with suspected smugglers along the Indo-Bangla international border, Border Security Force (BSF) jawans Saturday thwarted a group of ‘trans-border criminals’ by lobbing a stun grenade at them after the latter purportedly tried to attack with machetes at Debipur village in Belonia, 90 km south from here.

No arrests have been made, however, as they fled the spot taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.

A statement issued by a senior Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the BSF Tripura frontiers today said a BSF party noticed suspicious movement of some miscreants with cattle heads near the Indo-Bangladesh Border fence at 3:50 am in the wee hours of Saturday.

“On being challenged, the miscreants did not pay any heed and adopted aggressive posture by showing dao or machete with an intention to encircle and attack the BSF party. Sensing imminent danger to life and Govt property, party lobbed a Stun Grenade in self defence, resulting in fleeing of the miscreants taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation,” the statement said.

A thorough search of the area later revealed a breach in the border fence in alignment of Border Pillar No. 2178/5-S, it added. A spot inspection was carried out later in the presence of local police.

The BSF had claimed that Debipur village, especially Muslimpara area, is “highly prone to trans-border crimes” and is repeatedly being exploited by miscreants and trans-border criminals for illegal activities.

A complaint was lodged at Belonia police station against the suspected trans-border criminals for taking necessary legal action against the suspected border smugglers.

Earlier on February 10, a joint operation of the BSF and Tripura Police recovered 10 kg cannabis from smugglers at Takchapara area of Melagarh in Sepahijala District. The operations ran into hiccups as the suspected smugglers purportedly pelted stones at them.

The team later fired shots from a non-lethal weapon to disperse them. On February 1, a 23-year-old youth from a bordering village of South Tripura district was shot dead by a BSF personnel on duty after a clash erupted between the two parties and the jawan came under attack from a few locals.

India, Bangladesh agree to speed up border fencing.

The Home Secretaries of India and Bangladesh met virtually on Saturday and both sides and discussed early completion of pending fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border as agreed to by the Prime Ministers of the two countries, a statement by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

The 19th Home Secretary level talks between India and Bangladesh was held in the backdrop of ‘Mujib Barsho’and 50 years since the Bangladesh Liberation War.The Indian delegation was led by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Bangladesh was led by Senior Secretary, Public Security Division Mostafa Kamal Uddin.

“India and Bangladesh attach highest importance to their bilateral relations. Both Secretaries reiterated their commitment to further expand and strengthen mutual cooperation in the security and border related issues. Both sides reaffirmed not to allow the territory of either country to be used for any activity inimical to each other’s interests,” the statement said.

It added that both sides appreciated the cooperation between the two countries and the action taken to address the menace of terrorism and extremism in an effective manner.

On February 10, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had informed Rajya Sabha that the total length of the Bangladesh border was 2,126 kilometre of which 319 km cannot be fenced due to topographical constraints.

The effective functioning of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) to control the illegal cross border activities was appreciated by both sides. The holding of the inaugural Police Chiefs’ Dialogue in January, 2021, implementing the decision taken at the Home Minister Level Talks (HMLT) held in August, 2019, was noted with appreciation by both sides. Both sides agreed to further enhance the level of cooperation to prevent the smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and contraband,” the statement said.

MHA said Bangladesh appreciated the assistance provided by India in the field of training and capacity building for various security agencies.

“Both sides reviewed the entire gamut of security and border related cooperation and agreed to work closely to fulfill the shared vision of the leadership of the two countries,” MHA said.

Cattle smuggler shot dead by BSF jawan along Indo-Bangla border in Tripura.

A suspected cattle smuggler was killed by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the Indo-Bangla international border late on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Bappa Miyan, 32, a resident of Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district. North Tripura Superintendent of police Bhanupada Chakraborty told reporters a case has been registered and investigation is underway.

The BSF, in a statement, said a patrolling team spotted 12-15 cattle smugglers moving from Indian side and a second group of 10-12 cattle smugglers from Bangladesh towards the international border.

When BSF jawans attempted to intervene, the smugglers pelted stones at them. And a jawan in the patrolling party came under attack from cattle smugglers on the Indian side, the statement read. In “self-defense”, he had fired two rounds from a non-lethal pump action gun (PAG) that killed the Bangladeshi smuggler, it added. Later the BSF found a sharp weapon, a fence cutter and cattle beside his bod[ub]y.

” ….the smugglers on Indian side came very close to a BSF Jawan and attacked him with Dahs and Lathies. BSF Jawan had a narrow escape and he saved himself by taking cover of IBB Fence Gate but smugglers encircled him. Sensing danger to his life & Govt property, BSF Jawan fired 02 rounds from Non-lethal Pump Action Gun (PAG) in self-defence, resultantly one of the smugglers on Bangladesh side of IBB Fence got hit & fell down on the ground and rest of the smugglers on both sides fled away towards their respective sides by taking advantage of darkness…”, the BSF statement reads.

Earlier on February 13, BSF jawans lobbed a stun grenade at suspected smugglers at Debipur village in Belonia, 90 km south from here, after the latter purportedly tried to attack them with machetes.

On February 1, a 23-year-old youth from a bordering village of South Tripura district was shot dead by a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on duty after a clash erupted between the two parties and the jawan came under attack from a few locals.

Bangladesh court sentences 14 Islamist militants to death
Associated Press, March 23, 2021

DHAKA, Bangladesh — A special court in Bangladesh's capital on Tuesday sentenced 14 members of a banned radical Islamist group to death in a case over a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina two decades ago.
Prosecution lawyer Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan said prosecutors were happy with the verdict, but defense lawyers say they will appeal.
Prosecutors have said the defendants belong to the banned group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, or HuJi. In 2000, a bomb weighing 76 kilograms (167 pounds) was recovered from the venue for a political rally in the central Gopalganj district, where Hasina was scheduled to address supporters the following day. Judge Abu Zafar Mohammed Kamruzzaman of the special tribunal handed down the verdict in the presence of nine defendants. The rest remain fugitives.

I'm worried about BD becoming a Baki clone. At the moment, the govt is pro-India, but it appears that on the street, there is quite a bit of anti-India hostility. If the other Begum comes, then we can end up with another half front in Assam and WB. And with the wrong govt in WB, it can be quite explosive. It is very important to get the border fencing complete while we have time.

That threat is always there.

The only solution to living with such a neighbor is to follow the broad contour of our relationship as follows:

(a) Carry a long stick, but talk softly. Convey to all jihadists that they would feel the consequences if they harm the minorities, and pamper the anti-Bharat elements. In this regard, it is very important to set some examples by eliminating some extreme elements in Israeli style. The M tribe is very fearful of an iron fist. But publicly be generous - provide high profile funding and relief at the time of national calamities.

(b) Cultivate their culturally oriented elite through scholarships and professional opportunities. There is a powerful cultural elite class who jealously guard the icons like Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, etc. and we need to keep a close tie with that class. For too long that link had been hijacked by the Kolkata-based desi pseudo-secularists. Our Bollywood can be a bulwark in strengthening a wider cultural link (films, musics, etc).

It was around midnight......A foggy December night in Dhaka.
I was returning from Dhanmundi after seeing the BangaBandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house - the place where he was gunned down with his family. That house has been turned into a museum now. Even though the building was locked, I was visiting Dhaka for a few days with a packed schedule, and hence after a hectic day when I was ready to visit Dhanmundi it was after 9:30pm. .... And Dhaka's nightmarish traffic is something ....
My companion was a good friend - one of the advisors of the PM, and once a young confidant of Mujibur Rahman........He joined AL student wing Chaatro League as a devout Mujib follower.

A few days earlier, two JMB activists were gunned down right outside the city, and we were talking about it. .... Suddenly my friend turned at me, looked at my eyes, and said - "you guys (India) are too liberal .... what's the point of giving these jihadists all the legal rights and democratic process.... look at us... we just eliminate them as it suits us best, and call them as encounters .....There is no need to give them any unnecessary media coverage .... You guys are pathetic....Our PM is determined to clean up this mess..... But it's true that only two countries in this planet are supporting us and keeping us afloat ..... India and Russia ....."

.... We were quiet ....... as he drove me to my hotel .....

One of my friend from Kerala, during a chai biscuit chat mentioned how his father used to sleep in the day time and blow up bridges during night time, months before the war actually started!

The father was a IA soldier. Sadly he passed away couple of years back. May be someday stories of such heroes would become public.

I wonder how West Bengal compare to Bangladesh on HDI and GDP parameters. Is the deindustrialisation complete or can they beat it to death some more?

https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh ... -generates

An indication of how lopsided Bangladesh eceonomy is
State Minister Nasrul Hamid claims that 7,000 MW is not a big surplus in power generation

Dhaka city alone consumes 46% of the electricity Bangladesh produces, while the remaining amount is consumed by the rest of the country.

Disclosing the data, State Minister for Power and Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this is not only a difficult situation, but also a dangerous one.

ROCKETSAN Surface to Surface Missiles delivered by Turkey to Bangladesh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nBOV7QUisk

With Bangladesh armed forces having 8-9 divisions in strength.....India needs to add at least 4-5 more divisions to eastern command to handle any moves the Ambitious BD forces may have in the future. Hasina Wajed is not getting any younger and with their growing economy their armed forces capabilties are bound to grow.

^^^NO Threat sir,
Sheer need for a land mass to expand into.
And the Seven Little Sisters +WB is the target with conniving Chin.
120 KM could be easily explained.
With TMC/JIhadi Didi at helm that's their long term plan.
Beedi version of Lebensraum
Once Hasina Wajeed goes the second step of 'L' will start!!

we need to clear out the chicken neck area of all occupants and bring it completely under military control.

It's too risky as well as vulnerable for us to allow "settlers" in this vital area

Forces goal 2030

Bangladesh Army Aviation Group EADS CASA CN-295W
Bangladesh armed forces are going through a long term modernization plan named Forces Goal 2030. Bangladesh army is under a massive expansion and modernization drive as per the plan. The force is being divided into three corps — Central, Eastern and Western.[32] Three new infantry divisions have been raised, the 17th infantry division at Sylhet,[33] 10th infantry division at Ramu in Cox's Bazar[34] and 7th infantry division at Barishal-Patuakhali[35] to make the number of total infantry divisions ten. The soldiers are being equipped with modern gear like Night Vision Goggles (NVG), Ballistic helmets, Eye protective gear, Bulletproof vest, person to person communicators, palmtop GPS device and BD-08 assault rifles with Collimator sight.

To increase special operation capabilities, 2nd Commando Battalion has been raised. The two battalions formed sole the para-commando brigade of the country.[36] Bangladesh Army procured 44 MBT-2000 tanks from China in 2011.[37] Bangladesh army engineers have completed the upgrade of Type 69 tanks to Type 69IIG standard.[38] They are now upgrading 174 Type 59 tanks to Type 59G Durjoy standard.[39][40] To increase the mobility of the infantry forces, 300 armoured vehicles such as BTR-80 APC, Otokar Cobra LAV and BOV M11 ARV have been procured.[38]

To modernize the artillery forces, Nora B-52 K2 self-propelled artillery system have been procured from Serbia.[41] Their firepower is further increased by the addition of two regiment of WS-22 Guided Multiple Rocket Launcher System. For anti-tank role Metis-M missile systems and PF-98 rocket systems were procured.[41] Two regiments of FM 90 surface to air missile were added in 2016 to enhance air defence capabilities.[42] The army aviation wing is also being modernized. Two Eurocopter AS365 Dauphins were put into service in 2012.[43] Six Mil Mi-171Sh were procured in 2016. One C-295W transport aircraft was ordered from Spain which was delivered in 2017.[44][45] Bangladesh Army also procured 36 Bramor C4EYE battlefield reconnaissance UAV from Slovenia in 2017.
In return for Teesta waters, India should ask for military logistics transit rights thru N Bangladesh. Even the current BJP does not seem to aware of how the weather patterns can change in the NE.
