Only thing west is providing is Satellite imagery intelligence and some COMINT etc. But its hardly absolutely essential. Operations are coordinated with Gulf & Turks in the joint centre.

For the west, this is a way to remove Iranian and Russian influence in the region.

Darshhan ji,

Have you tried "image reverse search" ? What it does is it searches for all the sites where a particular image(or similar) have been linked.
Two decent image reverse search engines :-
images.google.com (click on a camera icon in search box)
Tineye.com is another image reverse search engine that one can use.

From all the reverse searching.. seems like Libyans posted images to twitter and some arabic forums like this one :-

http://vb.samtah.net/showthread.php?t=157104

edit: Seems like some Egyptian News channel "AKNN media" was recording this :-

to me the diplomat already looks dead. but I could be mistaken. perhaps he was only unconscious and was shot dead later.

its a slap in the face of US scheme of riding the arab spring to its own advantage with qatar and KSA acting as foot soldiers and funding conduits.

I am sure they will punish these actions with billions more in aid :D

But it has to be done quickly. It is once in a lifetime that an American Ambassador to a prominent nation is killed and dragged through streets. This was no ordinary person. He worked for US govt itself( Dept of state). Such people are very hard to kill. Understandably the current day American Administration would be very upset and uncomfortable because of this incident. In addition the Potus elections are approaching. Considering all this, I will say that the US govt along with its media cronies will do its best to create a diversion( in terms of media coverage ) as soon as possible. Once this diversion takes place , this incident(killing of ambassador) along with the pictures of his body being dragged brutally through the streets of Benghazi, will stop making the same kind of impact.

Hence I again say we are on clock.

So brothers adios. Got some work to do.

This was the first response from American's when the mob was scaling the walls :-
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

http://egypt.usembassy.gov/pr091112.html

Later on the White House said this :-
"The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government," an administration official told POLITICO.

Apparently the mobs were instigated by this Egyptian Talk show :-

Another interesting fact about the movie in question, it was released in July.. and jihadis found time to express their outrage on 9/11.

This is Morsi's first response :-
Morsi: U.S. Needs to Punish Filmmakers

While the main filmmaker behind an anti-Islam movie attacking the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud goes into hiding amid protests in Egypt, the country’s president, Mohamed Morsi, is demanding that the Egyptian Embassy in Washington take legal action against the team behind the controversial film. According to the official Egyptian state news agency Wednesday, Morsi requested that the embassy take “all legal measures” against the filmmakers, though it’s not clear what that entails. Protesters have been demonstrating against the film outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo since Tuesday.
I remember this statement from director of national intelligence :-

Has anyone ever wondered why British ambassadors in democratic and peacefully religious countries like Libya or Egypt are never treated so? Even if Brits were there in every western action that could be taken as an affront to the religion?

I do think that the admin will now try to keep this under a moderate response. The ME is getting out of American hands slowly and surely, and the cost-benefit ratio for Americans to pour in more lives and ammunition into the pot may soon reach the balancing point of benefits from securing Saudi oil.

Egyptian Minister held in London for indecency

An Egyptian Minister reportedly wept, tried to claim diplomatic immunity and then sought to portray himself as a victim of a cultural misunderstanding after he was arrested and fined for allegedly groping a young woman tourist here on Sunday.

Ebrahim Ahmed Khalil (56), a junior Egyptian Sports Minister accompanying his country’s Paralympians, was handing out Egyptian flag badges to people outside a luxury hotel where he was staying when he approached a young woman and, on the pretext of telling her where to pin the badge, tried to grope her, according to The Daily Mail.

The victim (25), who was with her mother and young brother, “felt shocked, embarrassed, violated and upset”, the prosecutor told the City of London Magistrates’ Court where Mr. Khalil was produced on Tuesday after spending two days in police custody.

The court heard that images from CCTV cameras showed him approaching the three family members and kissing the victim’s mother. He then “approached the complainant, pointed his right index finger, and pressed it on her right breast,” Regina Naughton for the prosecution said.

Even after the woman appeared to protest and her mother said “What is it?”, Mr. Khalil persisted.

Mr. Khalil, who does not speak English and listened to the proceedings through an interpreter, claimed that he was simply trying to tell her “where to put the badge”. He said he didn’t really understand what he had done wrong, but wanted to apologise.

His defence lawyer said the Minister had “an absolutely exemplary record and this is the first time he has been in any kind of trouble”.

Mr. Khalil, a father of three, reportedly wept when the magistrate ordered him to pay a £160 fine. He was also ordered to pay £100 in costs, £100 compensation to the woman, and a £15 “victim surcharge”.

The Attack on the US Consulate Was A Planned Terrorist Assault Against US and Libyan Interests
Posted in: 2012, Press Releases | September 12, 2012 at 14:37

The military assault against the US Consulate in Benghazi should not be seen as part of a protest against a low budget film which was insulting Islam – there were just a few peaceful protesters present at the event. Indeed, there have been no other demonstrations regarding this film in Libya.

We at Quilliam believe the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was a well planned terrorist attack that would have occurred regardless of the demonstration, to serve another purpose. According to information obtained by Quilliam – from foreign sources and from within Benghazi – we have reason to believe that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi came to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al-Qaeda’s second in command killed a few months ago.

The reasons for this are as follows:

1) 24 hours before this attack, none other than the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released a video on Jihadist forums to mark the anniversary of 9/11. In this video, Zawahiri acknowledged the death of his second in command Abu Yahya and urged Libyans to avenge his killing.

2) According to our sources, the attack was the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault – it is rare that an RPG7 is present at a peaceful protest.

3) According to our sources, the attack against the Consulate had two waves. The first attack led to US officials being evacuated from the consulate by Libyan security forces, only for the second wave to be launched against US officials after they were kept in a secure location.

The weak security environment in Libya including in Benghazi and the failure of the government to project its power outside of the capital have been used as a cover for the attack.

The failure to rebuild the defence and security sector, in an accountable, professional and responsible manner will only further the likelihood of such attacks in the future. Attacks in Benghazi are not new – the Red Cross has been attacked multiple times in previous months, as have the US consulate and also the UK Ambassador, and such security lapses encourage attacks. The International Community must take the challenge of not allowing extremist elements to hijack the Arab Uprisings very seriously, by renewing their focus on civic and governance responses to check the efforts of Islamist extremists attempting to exploit the inevitable security vacuum.

Noman Benotman, President of Quilliam says:

“These are acts committed by uncontrollable jihadist groups. We hope Libya will seize this opportunity to revive its policy of Disarmament, Demobilisation and Re-integration (DDR) in order to facilitate an end to the spread of such attacks, with the help of the International Community. We hope that the International Community, including NATO member states and especially the US, will continue their excellent work in Libya which began with the overthrow of the dictator Gaddafi after 42 years in power.”

First they precipitate the fall of the dictator and allow him to be killed brutally. Now they suffer the consequences of the dictator's fall without a transition.

As the old saying goes

I think we are seeing the decline of West's influence in the WANA area.

Egypt will be next.

Because she was non-Muslim, by most versions of the sharia - she could be treated so. Moreover similar attitudes were reported by foreign women reporters at Tahrir. At least one was so brutally assaulted that she had to be evacuated.

More democracy in ME = More power to Islamists = More Anti Americanism ??

Is not any American embassy property of USA?
What should have been done ideally in case a mob comes firing at the gatekeeper?
Basically does it not mean that embassy staffers are on own if host country does not provide for necessary security?

A rumor from link
Reports that protesters are gathering around US embassies in Morocco and Tunisia. Tear gas fired. #Libya
Another tweet link
Breaking: Muslim Brotherhood calls for more protests on Friday against film they deem insulting to Islam. #Egypt #US

When I put on the thinking cap (sparingly used) some things dont jive.

The incident happened in Benghazi (not attempted in that scale any where Cairo is akin to Tehran on a small scale)
The raid was military style
The raid was well coordinated

My itching senses say that is this result of the diplomat not meeting the expectations of the Anti Qaddafi rebels he had earlier cut deals and wheels?
if that's so then expect trouble from Syrian rebels
so its Taliban style (Taliban and anti soviet mujahids) de ja vu all over again.

Also if it turns out later that indeed its souring of relations between rebels and unkil then there is lot to fear the consequences
Hope I am wrong so help me God

All this analysis is missing the basic dynamic that these dictator types while vacationing in USA and sending their kids their, encouraged their people and Islamists to blame the West for everything. This hatred is not a spontaneous thing. The average Arab street wallahs has no clue about USA other than Madonna lives there and he/she would like to get there on the first boat.

It is very likely this is a Gaddafi remnant counter-revolution attack. Revenge for American support. They were very careful to kill the Ambassador. There are reports he was singled out and the attackers knew who to look for. It is very odd to see that there is still love for Gaddafi on this board. This seems to be a peculiarly Indian phenomena. Not dissimilar to the redder than Mao commies running around.

BTW poodle tourists and diplomats get attacked and kidnapped all the time but poodle can't do squat so no news. Amrikha can actually do something hence the minnalzh.

gaddhafi who? he is long gone and why are you seeing his ghosts in this attack, theo-saar?

Libyans did what 100% of iraqis (and 400% of paki or arab street) want to do, given an opportunity - "do on to khan what khan did unto us"
Floating towards Liberty-lady on an inner-tube comes only if that choice is there. But on a hot evening without electricity or sex, they will merge into the first frolicsome mob that passes by and goes with the mob's choices. Current choice was to do a gaddafi on to the unfortunate Ambassador and the libyan street took that choice.

From pindi to bhagdad to kabul, till now khan was careful to protect his pro-consuls and provincial governors. Heck, they even have "pretty boy" squads carefully selected from para-mils to protect them. But in Bhengazi, khan slipped up. And that too big time. Wonder why the deceased gent was there without the usual wall of trigger-happy pretty boys? Wonder if he was setup for a sensitive meeting?

That imagery of a US ambassador being dragged around is telling for more than one reason. Pres Obama is in deep trouble, as things were supposed to be "settled" in Libya, as per khan public

(the above article sounds a bit like a spin)

considering the "fluid situation" and the millions of RPG/LMG level weapons in libya (base level - everyone has a AK47 under mattress like people have a iphone in khan), have to wonder why embassy was not a kumbhalgarh type fortress protected by atleast 50-100 member blackwater/dyncorp detail and have a couple of gatling guns for "CIWS"

they were obviously not prepared for RPG and explosive charges used.

hnair saab,

You too have fallen for the propagandu. Is there no rock or safe harbor anymore. Hey Ram! :P

These folks in the picture earlier were the Libyan street who attempted to rescue and literally carried the Ambassador over their shoulders to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The murderous thugs have disappeared nah! where are they hiding from the mighty Libyan army and all. Some bravery, some counter revolution....

We are so filled with spinning we are unable to see straight.

BTW Stevens died of smoke inhalation, just to keep things straight...

Again the suspicion is ex-Gaddafi military types infiltrated the protest group and carried out revenge...
------------------------------------------

The most probable outcome of this is that American embassies in India will turn into mini Gitmo's with visa seekers asked to point butt in air for repeated cavity search....

If one correlates the pictures with the news in WSJ/NYT that the ambassador was taken to an emergency facility and pronounced DOA, the people in the picture seem to be the good samaritans. Also there was no singling out - he arrived at the place either just before the attack has started/in progress.

A sad day indeed.
