My initial comments: we knew that there was an Al Qods cell in India. I highlighted this a few years back.

I said this in August 2008
There is an Iranian/Hezbollah trained Al Qods(some sources call it a Hezbollah cell) cell in India. This cell is ready for action to target Israeli/western interests as part of Imad Mugniyeh's death anniversary. This info is coming from both CIA and Mossad.

Police Report on Kasargod Riots Annoys IUML
Athul Lal A G Last Updated : 10 Dec 2011

KOZHIKODE: By terming the recent riots at Kanhangad as communal, the police have reportedly displeased the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leadership. The party’s Kasargod district committee has been putting pressure on the police officials to dilute the incident by withdrawing Section 153(A) of IPC from the cases charged against the accused in the riots and label the cases as political, sources said.
The IUML leaders have already approached Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in this regard and two IUML MLAs of Kasargod have been putting pressure on the officials to defuse the issue. Sources maintained that IUML was the only party which expressed protest against charging Section 153(A) in Kanhangad riots while the CPM, Congress and the BJP vouched for strong action against the guilty.
It was the stringent action taken by the police during the riots that evoked a strong resentment among the IUML leaders. Realising the communal angle in the riots, police took as many as 130 cases on non-bailable charges under Section 153 (A) (Promoting enmity on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony). Of around 780 accused, the police have arrested nearly 200 till now.
Besides, Kannur Range DIG S Sreejith submitted a report to the DGP saying that an analysis of cases in the last 10 years has revealed that the ‘branding of conflicts with communal angle as mere political issues at the behest of political parties has proved counter productive’. The report said that the entire coastal belt of Kasargod was highly vulnerable to communal riots and it proposed the setting up of special control room and special patrolling units in Kasargod to gather intelligence and prevent riots of communal nature.
In fact, a detailed analysis of the list of cases during the last 10 years corroborates the DIG’s observations in the report. As many as 1,113 cases have been registered in the district during the period where the complainant belongs to one community and all the accused belong to another community. However, the number of cases registered under Section 153(A) and other relevant sections are just below 300. Most importantly, none of the accused has been convicted in the last 10 years in all the 1,113 cases. Of the 11,444 accused, only 4,833 have been arrested, which clearly shows that the other 6,611 are at large, unfettered and poised to spread communal violence.
While 427 cases have been charge sheeted, around 65 cases were withdrawn during the period. The total number of policemen in the district is only around 1,400.
When contacted, IUML Kasargod district general secretary M C Khamaruddin stuck to the party’s stand and alleged that it was the police who were creating the problems. “It’s the police who are branding the issues as communal. Police officials are behaving like they have some aversion towards the IUML workers. Though mosques were attacked during
Kanhangad riots, not even a single temple was attacked. However, police charged cases under section 153 (A) only against IUML workers. Even purely communal attacks made by other party were not registered under the section,” he said.
However, DIG Sreejith, in his report, made it clear that ‘politicisation of cases and intense parleying at the behest of political parties have in turn encouraged riotous behaviour and it’s high time that the glaring communal problems be addressed correctly rather than shrouding those cases under political clouds.”

^^^ Wow. Heartening to see a sekular UDF govt in Kerala do the right thing by allowing its cops a free hand in correctly dealing with the issue despite high-pitch squeals from its coalition fartner IUML which, it must be said, is in desperate need of a dose of IMFL....

EOD, our baboo(n)z and cops know enough to get things done if political interference is absent as has been proved time and again in Guj and Bihar.

Does this investigation come under the NIA, DP or NCTC? Anyway a good test of PC's credibility.

Recall the article by Doval about the old MAC being a vast database of terrorist activities and the methods?

I guess this motorcycle delivered car bombs is a new for India.

The original idea must have come from the killing of Iranian nuclear scientist using the same style-biker attaches magnetic car bomb and disappears in thick traffic, and boom!In general, terror/anti-terror attacks are getting more filmy since the Osama OP.

sanjeev, No matter. Its an escaltion in terrorist tactics. And more people could be at risk. Thnk over teh comlex moves exhibited in this attack in Delhi.
- Embassy watched
- Vehicle watched
- Place of attack chosen
- Modus operandi and getaway planned
- Not a suicide attack
- Coordinated to take place with Georgia

I suggest RAW (fact coordination with attack in Georgia) and IB both were surprised

Important thing is atleast now the MHA should have one spokesman and not let DP pandus speak and specualte beyond their ken.

This attack coming soon after expelling Israelis from Kerala would definitely lead to bad relations.

It would be ironic if the attacker cell was from Kerala.

See what comes out of allowing the Israelis to come in and be present? It disturbs the peace of the land, promotes communal disharmony, increases bloodbath and tensions, and reduces the chances for growth and prosperity.

Kasargad, and the similarly reported incidents in Kerala, and elsewhere [they have an uncanny similarity with what happens on the Bengal-BD border] all have certain key patterns. The primary thing is - it is not about just rioting or communal disharmony.

Communal disharmony or rioting is a result and a tool - but not the end objective. The end objective is a territorial consolidation into contiguous land areas and establishment of what can be called gateways on the borders. The spatial analysis of this information should make the pattern very very clear.

Second is that people fail to assess the significance of the various "atrocities" or symbolic nature of the acts. This is because they are severely deficient [and demanded to be so] in knowledge about the theology and its actual tactical and strategic record in history. The symbolic acts are meant more for the followers who are borught up in the theology-related political and military history of the desert peninsula. All the acts are classic repetations of the founder's symbolic or iconic acts - and its about claiming possession of territory under the theology itself.

The political and administrative decpetion that is understaken afterwards is about hiding this aspect from the "others" - because the message is only meant for those "within" who might not have the same commitment or conviction as the theological politico-military leadership.

Having lived in M'lore in the 80's it was clear the orthodox Islamists were present very much in KA. In fact in KL those days one could rarely spot anyone in a purdah. I would guess that northern KL is getting infiltrated from Southern KA by such elements. I have not been to M'lore so would not know the ground situation now. But the pro-pakistan elements were strong in M'lore. Despite the fact that our immediate neighbors were enlightened Muslims and there were many others like them, but orthodox still on many counts. The KA-KL difference was quite glaring in the 80's for one community. Such a land exchange is not going to solve much of anything.

Looks like the attack occured within 500meters of PM's home. Shows the impunity/gall of terrorists in chosing their place of attack.

Delhi Blast in Israeli Embassy Car

New Delhi: A car belonging to the Israeli embassy was gutted after it suddenly exploded in the VVIP area of Delhi on Monday. A female diplomat is said to be among the four injured.

The Innova SUV car, bearing diplomatic number 109 CD 35, went up in flames after it exploded near a petrol pump, metres away from 7 Race Course Road – PM’s residence. Another car in the vicinity was also damaged.

The injured from the embassy was identified as 42-year-old Tayi Yehosh. She is among the four injured in today’s blast.

The blast occurred at 3.16 pm at a busy traffic intersection on Aurangazeb Road after an unidentified motorcyclist stuck a magnetic device to the rear of the Toyota Innova vehicle.

The first major targeting of an Israeli official in the Capital came hours after police defused a bomb targeting an Israeli embassy car in Tbilisi, capital of a former Soviet republic, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of Hezbullah commander Imad Mughniyeh.

Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta did not want to hazard a guess on whether it was a terror attack and maintained it was definitely a device targeting the embassy Toyota Innova vehicle. :)

He said, “According to an eye witness a motorcycle-born person attached something to the rear of the SUV belonging to the embassy. There was a mild explosion after which the car burst into flames. The case will be investigated by special cell of the Delhi Police.”

Meanwhile the Ministry of Home Affairs while confirming the bomb attack said, “At 3.20 pm today the Israeli embassy SUV was targeted.” “Initial reports suggest that a foreign substance was attached to the rear of the vehicle,” the Union Home Secretary added. 8)

While condemning attack in Delhi today, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said, “Have spoken to the Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman and have assured them that the law of the land will take its due course,” he said. “India very strongly condemns such incidents. The culprits will be brought to justice at the earliest. We will keep the embassy posted of the all developments,” he added. :(

Nonetheless, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu straightaway blamed Iran and its Lebanese protege Hezbollah. Netanyahu also said Israel had thwarted similar attacks in recent months in Azerbaijan and Thailand.

Addressing lawmakers of his Likud Party, Benjamin Netanyahu said, "In all those cases, the elements behind these attacks were Iran and its protégé Hezbollah." He warned that such incidents would not be tolerated and that Israel would get back at the perpetrators of the crime.

Speaking to a TV channel, Alon Ushpiz, Israeli Ambassador to India too spoke in the same language, “We are all aware of the statements coming from the Israeli PM. This is not a co-incidence. Iran is going after the Israeli people on daily basis.” Nonetheless he assured that they felt ‘very secure’ in India and that they had ‘full confidence’ in the Indian authorities.

Security near the Israeli embassy and its consulate in Mumbai and missions of Western countries was tightened following the car bomb attack.

The blast created a flutter among security agencies including elite SPG guarding the Prime Minister. A high alert was immediately sounded and the entire area has been cordoned off.

The Centre has ordered tightening of security of diplomatic missions, especially of Israel, US and other Western countries, across the country.

With PTI inputs

Israel Mission Car attacked 500 m from PM's residence

The spin about Imad whatever is a clear indication of India washing its hands of providing security for foreign embassies in India.

Even as Supreme Court says murderers in uniform not protected by AFSPA, Delhi rejects findings of police investigations against Army

In the past four years alone, the Home Ministry has rejected at least 42 requests to sanction the prosecution of military personnel found by the police to have engaged in crimes such as murder, homicide and rape in Kashmir, data obtained by The Hindu reveal.

Last week, two Supreme Court judges said the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) — which makes the Central government's sanction mandatory for prosecution — ought not to cover cases in which crimes such as murder or rape were committed. “You go to a place in exercise of AFSPA, you commit rape, you commit murder, then where is the question of sanction?” Justices B.S. Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar said.

Thirty-one of the cases in which sanction was denied relate to rape, culpable homicide or murder. The others involve a wide variety of crimes, ranging from criminal trespass to illegal confinement. In not a single case, The Hindu found, had sanction been granted.

India is one of the few countries that is continuing to do business with Iran, defying US + EU sanctions. I really doubt Iran would risk embarrassing India by Iranian or Iranian proxies targeting anyone on Indian soil.

The motive here is strongly with those who want India to stop doing business with Iran. The spin about Imad is very much trying to implicate an Iranian proxy.

Was a sticker bomb used in the Delhi car blast?
http://www.rediff.com/news/report/was-a ... 120213.htm
Details into the car blast that occurred in New Delhi [ Images ] near the prime minister's residence remain sketchy with investigators still looking for more clues. Four diplomats were injured in the incident.
Investigators confirmed that it was an act of terror, and added that the role of various modules was being looked into. Israel has hinted that the Lebanon-based and Iran-backed Hezbollah could be behind the attack. However, India [ Images ]n agencies have said that there still is no concrete link to suggest that. They also do not rule out a stray Hezbollah operation in India. There has been a lot of activity ever since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai [ Images ] where Israelis were openly targeted

Are we not supposed to know and have complete intel from our intel about planned outrages such as this one in Delhi? We detect Mossad agents operating under the radar even if we miss Hadley - but that is a different issue. We can prevent coups in BD and know everything that is going to happen in Male.

By that logic, this attack on the Israeli was already known and anticipated, and there must have been a deep reason to allow this to happen - because we need to put our faith in the silence about such issues. Probably poor explanation from the gov.

Just about not, but possibly that will also come, remember, Salman Kurshid and Digvijay are running around berating Insp Sharma Ashok Chakra and crying over the dead terrorists only because they were from a certain community.

Here again the same pattern is seen, Maha ATS overstepped its bounds it appears, it is created to round up innocents and harrass them in the name of Hindu terror while straining every muscle to ensure that the real perpetrators are not touched.

Since they failed, Delhi police had to do the right job.

Thanks for the inputs. But the desecration and conflicts are not happening in KA,where Hindus are organised.I know life cannot be reduced to simplistic us vs them.Dont we know this from water issues? This is the second time in a year there is a problem in Kasargod. For a minute,I do not think the Hindus are homogenous.Or that Kerala Hindus will support KL muslims blindly on this issue. But KL police and admn are 'secular'.There is a case for what I say, that tulu speaking people will be better off in their 'natural habitat' in KA.

Kamal Chauhan, former RSS worker, planted bombs on Samjhauta Express: NIA

Saw some INC leader Rashid Alvi saying that Advani and Senior BJP leaders involved in the Blasts.

I think people stop taking the middle ground now with these investigations.

1) accept BJP , RSS and Hindu organisations are heavily involved with Terror activites, have huge explosive training facilities as alleged by INC.

2) INC is willing to anything except the right thing to stay in power including selling the country.

This goes like. Media writes and Congress shouts Hindu terrorist and want UP Muslims vote for it.

Actual news may be: Muslim youth who is angry at RSS killed two Hindus and the youth belongs to a terrorist organization based in JK.

We should follow the Delhi investigations in this thread....

CP confirms sticky bomb

Delhi Police and security agencies suspect the role of Lebanese and Palestinian nationals in the well rehearsed and pin-point terror strike.

The person who executed the task with clinical precision was military trained because handling of the ‘Sticky Bomb’ requires expertise. It involves speed, precision and simultaneous activation of the bomb by a remote device. Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta on Tuesday clarified that no timer had been recovered from the debris of the bomb from the blast site. He has also not ruled out the possibility of a second person being involved in activating the bomb with a remote device.

Delhi Police Commissioner said that they were treating the incident as a terror attack, until proven otherwise. Those who carried out the attack were following the movements of their target for quite some time. Segregating the target by identifying the particular vehicle could not have been possible without detailed reconnaissance.

Investigators are amazed at the accuracy of the operatives though the result was not spectacular. They chose a vehicle that was not fitted with any jamming device and those behind the attack were aware that once the Diplomat’s car passed the Aurangzeb Road crossing, it would enter the Prime Minister House security zone and jammers would be in place and that could scuttle their plan. The attacker chose to target the Innova car after it slowed down to pass the crossing. And also the attacker knew that the woman Diplomat would be coming out of the embassy at a particular time to collect her children from the American school, the sources said.

Agencies are trying to figure out the nature of explosives that were used in the bomb. Experts are of the opinion that it was a sophisticated incendiary device that was used for the first time for any terror attack in India and that was a major cause of concern. There is a very strong possibility that a RDX or nitrate-based compound was used in the bomb. It was a low intensity blast as the fuel tank of the car did not explode.

Agencies say that the records of all the entry ports of the country were being scrutinised to zero-in on the individuals belonging to countries in conflict with Israel. Hizbollah is based in Lebanon and its agents are known to be highly trained in guerilla warfare. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had termed Hizbollah as a proxy of Iran on Monday while reacting to the terror attack on the car of the Israeli Embassy. Agencies are scanning the immigration records of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of Delhi, Mumbai and Southern States to identify the Iranians, Lebanese and Palestinians who had entered India during last few months. “We have not got any evidence against Iran so far. The target of attack was the Israeli nation,” the Police chief Gupta said.

Passenger lists of different airlines which operated flights out of IGI Airport on Monday night to Arabian countries was being examined. Investigating agencies are of the view that the person who targeted Tal Yehoshua Koren, the Administrative Attaché of the Embassy of Israel in India wanted to exact revenge from Mossad. The woman Diplomat who was critically injured in the car blast on Monday happens to be the wife of the Defence Attaché who is an officer of the Israeli security service posted as a Diplomat at New Delhi.

Meanwhile Delhi Police and the security agencies have started a thorough checking of hotels in Central Delhi. Police is checking whether any citizen with a passport of the Arabian World had checked in recently. In a related development the Director of National Investigating Agency (NIA) SC Sinha visited Tughlaq Road Police Station on Tuesday to inspect the damaged Innova car.

More curious news about the bombing.

Innova seen but not the bike

Footage from some 30 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) installed in the high-security zone in New Delhi show the Israeli embassy Toyota Innova before it was destroyed in a targeted attack on Monday. But there is no recording of a man on a red motorcycle who an eyewitness claims stuck a magnetic bomb on the vehicle and sped away.

“We can see the Innova car but not any motorcycle near it,” a senior police officer said.

Police said they have recovered magnetic strips from the mangled remains of the Innova and the bomb was probably not more than the size of a “palmtop” or a “brick”.

The attack on the busy Aurangzeb Road in broad daylight injured four persons, among them Israeli diplomat Tal Yehoshua-Koren.

“The bomb cannot be stuck on a moving vehicle. It has to be stationary. The bomb exploded 5-7 seconds after it was stuck. The traffic signal was red at the time of the explosion. After sticking the bomb, the motorcyclist removed one of the bollards (plastic dividers) on the road and fled,” Police Commissioner B K Gupta said.

Another police officer said they were probing whether the bomb was stuck on the Innova at Khan Market or near the embassy.

“The woman diplomat had come to the embassy in the morning but the Innova remained parked outside. She emerged in just 20 minutes. The car did not go inside. She then went to Khan Market around 1 pm from where she left at 2 pm. There is a high possibility that the bomb was planted at Khan Market or near the embassy,” the officer said.

Police sources said they examined footage from CCTV cameras outside the house of DLF chief K P Singh, Claridges Hotel and Khan Market but did not notice any motorcyclist of the description provided by the witness.

“We have asked for CCTV footage for the past 7-8 days from the Israeli embassy. We sought footage from the Canadian embassy as it was also close to the incident spot,” Gupta said.

He said Indian security agencies were seeking information from Georgia, where a similar attack was averted on Monday, and Thailand where bombs exploded today.

All police stations in Delhi have been asked to report any abandoned “red motorcycle”.

Five persons on red motorcycles were stopped on Monday night but let off later. Another person who was captured by a CCTV outside the Israeli embassy presented himself before investigators. A courier boy too was stopped by police and questioned.

After the attack, a witness told police that a man wearing a brown jacket and riding a red motorcycle stuck the bomb on the Innova and sped away. There was an explosion seconds later.

Police said the bomb was a combination of explosives and gel and had the capacity to blow up a truck. Fire spread rapidly inside the Innova, helped by an aerosol can on the back seat. But the fuel tank did not catch fire.

Two men, who were in an Indica behind the Innova and were injured in the explosion, told police that they did not see any motorcyclist. “I did not see any motorcyclist near the car,” Manjeet Singh said.

Was the red motorcyclist a red herring?

two key thing are
1) Was there a motor bike rider involved? Who saw the guy and reported it?
2) Was the bomb placed by the bike rider?

The key witness seemed to be an individual who was driving a bit behind the vehicle which was blasted. He too had suffered minor injuries. The name of the witness has not been released to the media for obvious reasons.

Mean while in Kerala
50 held in connection with Kasargod violence
This is w.r.t the temple descration case recently reported (in Facebook et.al), through some media outlets. Most of the main stream TV and print media in Kerala had decided not to report it.

Police suspect Popular Front activists (Deepika: Malayalam)
In the recently held railly during the Nabi Dinam in two three places some youths deliberately paraded wearing military uniforms. While the function in no way associated with military or police. This seems to be part of a delibarate campaign by the Popular Front activists. Police even suspect that the trainers who trained the young men may have come from Pakistan . A local businessman sponsored the uniform.

When this was widely reported the local Mohalla commitee had called for a press meet and apologised for the same, and cited that this could be a silly mistake made by school kids. But police did not buy that argument as same incidents were reported else where as well.

Popular Front tries every year to have a "Freedom Parade" on August 15th, but the police and district magistrate generally asks the them to parade inside their homes ;) :rotfl:. So this incident is now considered to be an attempt to circumvent the ban order. BTW, photographs/posters of the Freedom Parade is a must see. Uncanny resemblance to an Army of one of our neighbours ;).

Delhi car bomb: NSG not allowed to gather data
Gurgaon: In a surprise departure from norms, investigators of the NSG post-blast study team were not allowed to gather vital data of the terror-struck and burnt Israeli embassy SUV citing "diplomatic reasons".

NSG's National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC) is the central nodal agency for monitoring, recording and analysing all bombing incidents in the country and it acts as the vital repository of all domain knowledge in this regard.

The NBDC charter mandates the NSG to send its post blast study teams to all places where a blast has occurred in the country and collect samples from the spot.

The importance of the job can be gauged from the fact that last year, during a bombing incident in Uttar Pradesh's Agra, the NSG headquarters had air rushed a special post-blast squad to the spot to save time and secure vital forensic data of the explosion.

India can always be trusted to cave in to unreasonable demands by diplomats. if a indian vehicle were damaged in tel aviv, the israeli police would be crawling all over it...

these CD- blue number plates are a law unto themselves in dilli per a journalist relative of mine who hobnobs with the dilli police on his assignments.

So who decides which agency/entity will conduct the investigation?

Also with the water hose to put out the petrol fire (!) wouldn't any evidence be washed away?

Kasarkode is not called "kutti pakistan" for nothing. It is known to harbor some of the biggest missing names in the terror circuit. During India-Pak cricket matches, you will find entire villages rooting for the Pakis.

I was discussing the Kerala Kasarkode situation with a friend with roots in the same state, and some business and political connections. He has friends from there he grew up with who ar enow based in the UAE. They flat out boast about how their dads make frequent visits to Afghanistan, with butt loads of cash, and enjoy the equivalent of diplomatic immunitiy over there. All from the Vaynad and Kasarkode region.

Not one crack down - only because the Vynaad Seths have dictated the fortunes of kerala politics for ages now. For one thing the Malabar region of Kerala is known for 2 things: (1) Tea, which grows above a certain altitude, (2) and poppy, that grows below a certain altitude. Most plantations are owned by the Mappilas or Malabar Seths, and the tea is a front for the other stuff, which is smuggled out of the country and sent to Pakistan. Hash, ganja and by some accounts its shifting to cocaine now.

With these guys branching out to buy property in Coorg adn in some cases Hassan and Chickmangalur as well its a huge operation that can't happen without the help of the cops and the local governments. Government campaigns are controlled by the Malabar Mappilas. They are mostly bank rolled by these guys as well - Badagas mostly from South Canara and Mangalore.
