Interesting thing about this BlackBerry issue is that there was a major international coverage when the issue broke up in KSA and UAE, but there is hardly any coverage of the issue with GOI.

Dont know where else to put this.....

NEW DELHI: A freak blast in Mogadishu has sent tremors all the way to New Delhi, with indications that Indian terrorists might be fighting for al-Qaida’s group Al Shabaab in Somalia.

Over the weekend, the Somali ministry of information announced that two Indians, three Pakistanis and an Afghan were among 10 Al Shabaab terrorists killed while trying to put together a suicide car bomb in Mogadishu. The dead even included one leader ‘‘who was in charge of praying for suicide bombers before they are dispatched’’.

If the Indians’ identity is borne out, this would be a first. Thus far, Indian terrorists have stopped short of venturing out that far for transnational jihadi terrorism.

Lashkar setting up Lankan module to target India
The Lashkar-e-Tayiba [ Images ] may have gone quiet for sometime now, but Indian intelligence agencies say that this is just their strategy to regroup. A few months ago, a top ranking US official had warned that they had specific inputs that the Lashkar was setting up a base in Sri Lanka [ Images ] in a bid to encircle India [ Images ].

Confirming this development, Indian intelligence agencies told rediff.com that there has been a very slow build up of Lashkar cadres in Sri Lanka which is worrying.

Latest inputs suggest that there is a mix of old and new recruits in the Sri Lanka operations and the fall of the Liberation Tigers of the Tamil Eelam has led them to slowly set up base on the island. Today the Lashkar boasts of about 100 cadres in its Lankan operations. The foot soldiers have not been sent in as yet, but the cadres in Lanka are planners, who can set up cells and modules, to pave the way for future attacks.

The IB says that the Lashkar may take over two years before it is fully functional in Sri Lanka. Inputs show that the new recruits who are sent to Pakistan are trained by the Lashkar and more recruitments are taking place for the Sri Lanka operations.

There was an understanding between the Lashkar and the LTTE [ Images ], when the latter was dominant in Sri Lanka. The Lashkar deliberately did not make an entry into this country at that point of time. However with the LTTE gone, the Lashkar has seized this opportunity to gain a foothold in Sri Lanka.

As part of the plan, they are relying very heavily on some LTTE old timers, who have been forced to drop arms after their outfit was wiped out. These persons will provide logistical support and help them set up cells and modules in Lanka.

The IB says if the LeT manages to set up a strong base in Lanka then India will be completely encircled by this terror group. The LeT already has set up modules in Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives [ Images ].

The Inter Services Intelligence has been specifically helping this group set up bases all around India since they would have a better chance on carrying out attacks. Moreover it becomes a nuisance for security agencies since the LeT could use multiple routes to strike at India. Earlier it was only the Kashmir [ Images ] route through which the Lashkar could enter India. Today they have modules in Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan. The Sri Lankan module is expected to focus on the southern part of India.

The US has expressed fears over this new development and says that it needs to work closely with India to contain this threat. Indian intelligence agencies too are sharing data with the American agencies since this is considered to be a huge development which not only threatens India, but other South Asian nations.
Why in $#%^ name are we sharing this info with the US? So that they can alert the Pakis?

What is with this US obsession of our agencies despite being stabbed repeatedly in the back by them?

Post-mortem indicates Azad was shot from close range
Top Maoist leader Azad, alias Cherukuri Rajkumar, who the Andhra Pradesh police claimed to have killed in an encounter in the forests of Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh, was shot from very close range, probably from less than one foot, according to his post mortem report, accessed by Rediff.com

The post-mortem report stands in contradiction with the police version that Azad was killed in a gun-battle between 11 pm and 11.30 pm on July 1 in Sarkepally village, Wankedi, in Adilabad district.

After the Andhra Pradesh police claimed Azad, a member of the Communist Party of India-Maoist central committee and politburo as well as its national spokesman, was killed in the forests of Adilabad district, the Maoists claimed that he had been picked up in Nagpur a day earlier, flown to Adilabad by helicopter, and executed in cold blood along with a man named Hemchandra Pandey.

In May, Home Minister P Chidambaram [ Images ] had invited Swami Agnivesh, who had led a peace march in Chhattisgarh in April, to mediate with the Maoists and explore the possibility of a cease-fire, which would likely result in peace talks with the central government.

With Chidambaram's permission, Agnivesh met with senior Maoist leaders Kobad Gandhy in Delhi's [ Images ] Tihar jail and Narayan Sanyal in Raipur jail in Chhattisgarh to begin the peace process.

He also wrote to the Maoists, informing them about the government's interest in a dialogue, to bring about a peaceful resolution to the Leftist insurgency that has crippled life in many districts in the country.

Azad responded on the Maoists's behalf, expressing willingness in possible talks with the Centre and indicating that his organisation could think of a cease-fire.

One sticking point was Chidambaram's insistence on a date for a cease-fire, which the home minister felt would indicate the Maoists's intentions.

Once a cease-fire -- the duration of which could extend for three days or six months or longer -- was in place, Chidamabaram told Agnivesh talks could begin.

In late June Agnivesh wrote again to Azad, suggesting three likely dates in July when the cease-fire could go into effect.

Azad was carrying Agnivesh's letter with him the day he died.

There are other discrepancies in the police inquest and the First Information Report, which too was accessed by Rediff.com

According to the post mortem report, the first bullet, which killed Azad left 'a one centimetre oval-shaped wound with darkening burnt edges present at the left second intercostal space'and exited 'at the 9th and 10th intervertebral space, lateral to the spinal vertebrae on the left side'.

This raises two key aspects regarding the shot that killed Azad:

First, according to doctors and experts, such darkening edges in the entry wound happens only due to burns caused by a bullet fired from very close quarters, mostly from less than a foot.

Second, the intercostal space is the part between two ribs. The intervertabral space is the part between two vertebrae. This means that the bullet hit Azad high on the chest and exited through the middle of his back.

For this to happen the bullet must have been fired from above the victim at close quarters.

But according to the first information report, the police was firing at Azad, who they said was on a hilltop, from a distance and from below.

The FIR says Azad, accompanied by 20 to 25 Maoists, opened fire on the police from the hilltop, after which the police retaliated, killing Azad and Hemchandra Pandey.

The Andhra Pradesh police, however, denied the fake encounter theory and maintained that it was a genuine gun-battle.

Regarding the darkening at the entry wound, they said burn marks happen in case of firing from a distance also.

"We have also checked that aspect with forensic experts. They say it is possible that shots fired from a distance can also cause burn marks," a senior officer told Rediff.com

The police report has a lot of holes in it, and raises many questions:

The gist of the FIR (crime number 40/2010) filed by Station House Officer Mansoor Ahmed at the Wankedi police station, Adilabad, at 9.30 am, July 2, is:

Intelligence divisions informed them that a group of 20 CPI-Maoist members had crossed into Andhra Pradesh from Maharashtra [ Images ] and were moving about in the forest area.

At 9 pm, personnel from the Asifabad police station and a special police party launched a search operation in the forested and hilly region between Sarkepally and Velgi.

At 11 pm, the police team -- equipped with night vision devices -- spotted the Maoists on a hilltop and asked them to surrender.

As the Maoists opened fire, the police retaliated in self-defence.

The firing lasted for 30 minutes after which the police climbed the hilltop and halted.

When they searched the area early in the morning, they found two unidentified bodies -- a 50-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man wearing sandals with an AK-47 and a 9 mm pistol lying by their respective sides.

1. If, according to the FIR, the Maoists were on a hilltop -- which strategically means the Maoists had the terrain advantage -- how was Azad killed by a bullet fired from such close quarters that it caused a burn?

2. The FIR is against 'unknown Maoist terrorists'.

But in their inquest, accessed by Rediff.com, the police have identified the slain Maoist as Azad at 6 am, July 2.

In fact, local journalists said they got phone calls at 6 am from senior Adilabad police officers informing them that Azad has been killed in an encounter.

"The Adilabad SP (superintendent of police) called me and other journalists at 6 am and told us Azad had been killed in an encounter in this area. We reached the place immediately. We searched the area till 1 pm but were unable to locate the bodies. Then, some local policemen came and guided us to the location. We saw the bodies of Azad and another person," says a local journalist.

Question: If the police had already identified Azad at 6 am, why did they not name him in the FIR, which was filed three-and-a-half hours later?

3. The FIR says the police party, which was tipped off about the presence of Maoists in the forest, reached there around 9 pm, July 1 and with the help of night vision devices, spotted 20 to 25 Maoists.

The FIR also says that after the gun-battle ended at 11.30 pm, the policemen reached the hilltop and halted. It says the police party found two bodies at 6 am when they began searching.

Question: If the police had night vision devices, as claimed in the FIR, and if they had reached the hilltop occupied by the Maoists after the gun-battle had ended, why did they not use the same devices to check for dead or hidden Maoists at that time? Why did they have to wait for sunlight to spot the bodies?

Outside of these discrepancies and questions arising out of the official documentation, there are also some other pertinent questions:

4. In cases of encounters, the police are supposed to launch a magisterial probe into the matter.

But in Azad's case, even 52 days after the encounter, the revenue district officer, who is supposed to conduct the probe, has not even issued a notification where witnesses from the general public, if any, are called to present themselves before the magistrate.

The villagers in Sarkepally and Velgi -- the place where the police claim that the encounter happened is between these two villages -- said they saw police vehicles go to the spot on the night of July 1.

"We saw some vehicles go past our village. Then at about 11.30 I heard gunshots," said a villager who did not want to be named. "We have seen encounters here in 1997 and 2005. Those times, the police came during the day and we could hear gun shots throughout the night. This time it was not like that. They came in the night and we heard some shots and that was it."

They also said there has not been any Maoist movement in the region for at least a year.

"After 2005, their movement thinned quiet a bit," a village elder said. "In the last two years or so, there have not been any Maoists in the area."
Wonder why such articles are even allowed to be published? Good riddance to such pests else he would have been walking free on bail if arrested.

Also wonder if CBI probe will be ordered and all the top AP IPS officials will be jailed along with the Home minister for this fake encounter since we have seen this UPA govt so "concerned" about fake encounters that they can put the entire IPS top brass in jail like in Gujarat!!!

Madani, Nasir to be jointly grilled by B'luru cops
The Bengaluru police will have to pull out a couple of new tricks if they have to carry forward the interrogation of Abdul Nasser Madani, who has been arrested in connection with the Bengaluru serial blasts case.Sources in the team which is interrogating him told rediff.com that Madani has consistently denied having any knowledge of the blasts.

The police have been interrogating him for two days in a row now and till date, he has not revealed any information. All Madani has been saying that he had no knowledge of the blasts and was in no way connected to that incident.

The police have built a case against Madani based on the confession of T Nasir, the main accused in the case. The entire chargesheet depends on Nasir's statement. The Bengaluru police said that they would now put Nasir, Madani and another accused, Sarfaraz Nawaz in the same room and cross interrogate them. Since Nasir gave them the lead on Madani, it would be essential to put them face to face and interrogate them, the source said.

The police team had taken Madani to Coorg on Monday, where Nasir claimed to have met him during the planning stages.
Is the time slowly approaching for "some other methods" if Madani continues his maun-vrat?

Brigadier (Retd) Ujjal Dasgupta, who was arrested four years ago on the charge of passing on classified information to an American diplomat, was finally granted bail by a city court on Monday. The ailing Dasgupta had been incarcerated all these years with no chargesheet filed against him.

His family members and former colleagues had been struggling for months for his release after Dasgupta’s health deteriorated inside Tihar Jail. The Pioneer, in a series of reports, had highlighted the Brigadier’s plight, following which he was admitted to AIIMS in May 2010 for a complete medical investigation.

Additional Sessions Judge Inder Jeet Singh granted the bail subject to his furnishing a personal bond of `75,000 and a surety of the same amount, with the conditions that he will not leave the country or contact any of the case witnesses.

Dasgupta, now 64, had been seeking bail on health grounds. He had suffered a massive heat attack in November 1988 and undergone a coronary artery bypass graft surgery at AIIMS. Dasgupta is the last of the three accused to get bail in the case. Commodore (Retd) Mukesh Saini, who was working with the National Security Council Secretariat, and Shib Shankar Paul, a senior systems analyst at the Secretariat, have already been granted bail by the Tis Hazari court.

The soldier was put behind bars for four years, though evidence against him could not be gathered. His friends and relatives had been pointing out that denying him medical help amounted to denial of justice. In the wake of investigative agencies’ failure to gather evidence, his former colleagues had begun a campaign seeking justice for Dasgupta. “This is good news and we are very happy. I am sure his glory will be restored since he has always been an intelligent person and an officer,” said one of his former colleagues.

Dasgupta, director of computer cell at the Research and Analysis Wing, was arrested on July 19, 2006, under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and accused of giving sensitive information to Rossanna Minchew, an American diplomat. The prosecution claimed that he had passed on the information through pen drives, which were recovered during investigation. His office laptop, home computer and some hard disks had also been seized by the prosecution.

“The house of the applicant was searched and raided in violation of the statutory provisions of law envisaged in the Official Secrets Act and Sub-Inspector Sajjan Singh was not authorised to conduct the investigation in the case,” Dasgupta’s counsel Pramod Kumar Dubey argued.

“There is collusion between the police/special cell, R&AW and IB officials to implicate the applicant (Dasgupta) falsely,” he added.

Dubey also argued that Dasgupta, a 63 year old heart patient, has clean antecedents and has undergone triple bypass surgery. The documents contained in two envelopes, supplied by the prosecution, do not contain classified information, he said. Dasgupta was detained on the basis of these documents which the prosecution had claimed were classified. The documents were supplied to Dasgupta only after an intervention by the court.

Dasgupta was looking after the development of ‘Anveshak’, a database management system. The court, in its “prima facie” observation, said Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory analysis of seized hard disk showed that computer files related to Anveshak were last accessed in May 2005. Minchew was given visa for India in August, 2005 and therefore could not have received any information on Anveshak from Dasgupta as the file had last been accessed in May 2005. Minchew was in India to coordinate Indo-US Cyber Security Forum. Dasgupta also pointed out that as per the prosecution itself, the Anveshak software is not classified.

Madani was in touch with 2 politicians
one, a former chief minister, the other, a former transport minister of same political party — their mobile telephone numbers were switched off, or they would “cut the calls.”
The former CM has five listed cellphone numbers.

Read in a local vernacular news paper that TMMK (Taminadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam or TN Muslim Development Party) conducted an agitation in Madurai where it said that Shri. Madhani has been falsely implicated and that such incidents will come to an end only when Muslims ruled the country again. We can easily see how the ISI is motivating the various Islamist organizations in the country.

The island has become the happy hunting ground for Paki ISI agents who masquerade as businessmen in Colombo. There is a concerted effort to see that pro-LTTE operatives and sympathisers in India are encouraged to start pro-LTTE activities in TN and the ISI will replace the Eelamists for funding. The alarming way in which Muslim youth in Kerala too are being indoctrinated and have started joining extremist islamist parties who are scandalously raising "uniformed" armies, cannot be ignored and must be closed down with extreme prejudice. The ISI's diabolic plan is to engineer simulataneously internal unrest in the country from Kashmir to Kerala and Kanyakumari. This has to be nipped in the bud and the farcial arrest of Madhani shows how spineless are both Central and state administrations.

Absolutely on the dot. The Islamists in South India have floated various organizations under the cover of what looks like 'nationalist fervour' with 'nationalist' sounding names but purely for sinister purposes. These outfits have names such as Popular Front, People's Democratic Party, National Development Front etc. They are pure and unalloyed Islamist organizations of the extreme right.

These people write articles espousing Indian national cause to hoodwink people but always ending with how only an Islamist rule can rule be the panacea for all ills etc. The 'Love Jihad' whose existence was accepted by the Kerala High Court is part of this.

Just like the MMA (Muttahida Majlis Amal) that ruled NWFP during Musharraf's rule and which allowed the Taliban to setup an extensive base throughout FATA, some rulers on Tamilnadu and Kerala, especially, have wittingly allowed the mushroom growth of these pernicious organizations in the South.

Madani's role in IPL stadium blast revealed
Interrogation of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 serial bomb blasts here, has revealed his role in the twin explosions near the cricket stadium here ahead of an IPL match on April 17 this year, Home Minister V S Acharya said today.

"Inquiry (in the 2008 bomb blasts) is in progress. We are confident that we will get the full information (on the conspiracy)", Acharya told reporters here when asked about the update on the interrogation of Madani. He said, "The interrogation has revealed his role in the cricket stadium blasts".

Acharya said Madani's links with other main accused in the 2008 blast case has been "established" during interrogation. One woman was killed and 20 others were injured in the blast.

"He is (currently) on a dawn-to-dusk fast (Ramzan). So, interrogation is in between", he said.

Acharya did not give much details on the probe involving Madani, adding that his ministry does not interfere in criminal investigation and it was not proper to comment when it was in progress.

He said a police team is carrying out investigation independently and they are free to take the assistance of anybody in their probe. Madani was taken to Hosathota in Somwarpet Taluk in Kodagu district for further investigation last week for exploring his alleged links there.

Indian arrested with jihadi literature in US
Authorities at Houston’s George Bush International Airport detained Vijay Kumar, 40, said to be Mumbai-based documentary maker, after his ‘suspicious behaviour" led them to search his bags.

While he was able to explain that the jihadist material and a manual for a handgun in his bags were part of ‘educational tools" he used for a lecture at a Hindu organisation on Islamic fundamentalism, he was at a loss to account for the brass knuckles, a prohibited item.

To compound matters, a baggage swab for explosive residues showed what later turned out to be a false positive.

On Monday, after Kumar spent the weekend in custody, a State District Judge lowered Kumar's bail from $50,000 to $5,000 on hearing that prosecutors were willing to drop other charges and let him plead to time served for unlawfully carrying a weapon in an airport.

Kumar’s attorney Roger Jain told TOI that the brass-knuckles were in his checked-in baggage and Kumar carried them because he was apprehensive about being attacked by fundamentalists. The whole episode was based on a misunderstanding and everything was expected to be cleared by Friday when Kumar will appear in court again after he was released on bail on Monday.

PM holds meet to discuss handling fallout of Babri demolition verdict

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday conferred with his top colleagues as Uttar Pradesh government sought nearly 50,000 central paramilitary personnel for tackling any possible law and order problem after the Allahabad High Court judgment next month in the Ayodhya title dispute.

Singh discussed the issue with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, home minister P Chidambaram and defence minister A K Antony, sources said.

The UP government has written to the Centre seeking 485 companies (about 48,500 personnel) to be deployed across the state in wake of the judgement, they added.

NIA tight-lipped over identity of Indian aides of Headley
NEW DELHI: The identity, status and the numerical strength of Indian aides of terror suspect David Coleman Headley have been kept as a closely guarded secret by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which has also sought the co-operation from a court here to maintain total secrecy.

The NIA has told a designated court here that the Indian suspects, who had helped Headley and others to plot and carry out terror attacks in Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country between 2005-09, hailed from Kerala and Mumbai.

The agency informed the court about it while seeking to conduct the lie-detection test of the suspects for which it was asked to take the consent of those whose names have been given in a sealed cover.

Their numbers, addresses and the status as to whether they are in custody or not have not been disclosed in open court as these details have been provided to the court in a sealed cover.

The court asked the NIA to get the consent of the accused for the test in writing and file them on record.

However, it was not known, how much time has been granted to the agency to get their consent before the court.

The move to conduct the lie detection tests assumed significance as the NIA has recently secured NBWs against two Pakistani officers Major Iqbal and Major Sameer Ali along with Lashkar operatives Sajid Majid, Syed Abdur Rehman and Illyas Kashmiri for getting the Red Corner Notices issued by the Interpol.
Seems NIA knows quite a bit about the Indians involved...

Who was the minister for transport when His holiness Kumaraswamy was leading the govt. of Karnataka? If I remember, this chap owned a large bus/transport fleet. The services of this fleet was also used when Kumaraswami had to bus-lift a large number of his MLAs to various resorts when there were chances of the ministry getting toppled.

It has already happened. The news media has already reported that the lawyer for Mahdani has said that, such a statement was not made by Mahdani. VS Acharya (and the BJP) govt. should be extra cautious in handling this case as for the rest of the world Mahdani and his activities are all part of a political game (national security and integrity be damned).

Saw the word "Kerala" on that report. Now waiting for some crucial evidence to come up at the oppurtune movement when Mahdani Saahib finds out ways to squeeze out of the existing charge sheet. The way I see it our pal is going to have another long haul. Dont know if the NIA, the IB (and R&AW) are now knitting a huge net and making it tighter and tighter, with a few police agencies helping them out with glee.

Rana's Kochi links to be traced soon
The purpose of LeT suspect Tahawwur Hussain Rana’s visit to Kochi will be unfolded soon as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is learnt to have unearthed certain leads that will help it trace the links Rana and his friend David Coleman Headley, a LeT operative, had in Kochi.

While a senior official with the NIA remained tight-lipped on revealing the names of the persons in Kerala suspected to have links with Rana, sources in the NIA said there had been certain developments in the investigation.

Certain suspects will be questioned soon in connection with Rana’s visit to Kochi, sources said. It was in November 2008 that Rana, who was running a Canada-based immigration firm, visited Kochi.

However, reports from Delhi said the NIA had filed a petition, which had the names of certain suspects from Kerala and Mumbai, before a local court in Delhi seeking permission to conduct lie-detection tests on them. The names were submitted in a sealed envelope before the court to ensure that the identity of the persons remained secret.

NIA sources said they were able to trace certain ‘missing links’ after they launched a probe into the terror-related cases in Kerala which included the Kalamassery bus burning case and the Kashmir terrorist recruitment case.

The interrogation of Headley by a team of NIA officials in the US had reportedly given the NIA vital information on the network both Headley and Rana had managed to create in various parts of India. {That was why a face-to-face meeting with the Indian investigators was so vitally important even if there had been considerable delay and even if we suspected that Headley might give tutored responses}

Saffron terror a new phenomenon: Chidambaram

New Delhi: Addressing a meet of police chiefs on Wednesday, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram spoke about various security issues, focusing on what he called the 'new phenomenon of saffron terrorism.'

"There has been a recent uncovered phenomenon of saffron terrorism that has been implicated in many bomb blasts in the past. My advice to you is that we must remain ever vigilant and continue to build, at both Central and state level, our capacities in counter-terrorism," he told the top policemen.

If a careful person like P.Chidambram, who chooses his words carefully and deliberately, has indeed used 'saffron terror', that is objectionable because he has never used phrases like 'Islamic terror' or 'green terror'. OTOH, he has been advocating that terror had no religion. How come then, suddenly terror has a religion ?

SSridhar wrote:Madani's role in IPL stadium blast revealed

And the bungling begins....

Watch helplessly as madani walks away scot free.

Karnataka HM bungled on Madani
Aug 26th, 2010 |

Bengaluru, Aug. 25: The Karnataka home minister, Mr V.S. Acharya, made a gaffe in announcing that People’s Democratic Party chief Abdul Nasser Madani was involved in the blasts at the Bengaluru cricket stadium during the IPL last year.

The minister was to speak about Madani’s involvement in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts during the press briefing on Tuesday.

Mr Acharya, who was fumbling, was reportedly prompted by a journalist during the briefing.

Whenever there is legitimate criticism of PC and his atheist behavior, the Tamilian BRF members take this as a personal attack and begin ad hominem attacks on the original poster.
This is a legitimate concern about PC's atheist outlook and how it can adversely affect India. We can see with this particular action how PC's atheist outlook is undesirable. He should step down immediately and the opposition should ask just that.

Yes this is not the HM P Chidambaram we know. I am afraid if the few sane voices like him too talk like one of those CON party's sekular parrots then things would only get worse as far as internal security is concerned.

No Maudany link in stadium blast: Bengaluru Police
The Bangalore police have so far not come across any link between People's Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany and the twin blasts which occured near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here just ahead of an Indian Premier League cricket match on April 17 this year.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, City Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari said: “The PDP leader is one of the accused in the 2008 serial blasts case in Bangalore.

However, so far we have not found his involvement in the blasts that rocked the stadium in April.”

Mort, and if PC steps down, who runs the show? Shivraj Patil?! Why dont you also come up with a constructive suggestion on who the new HM could be? I can ask for a few qualifications: someone who does the job, someone who will ensure that the attacks on the internal security apparatus in India will be minimized by efforts in that direction, someone who will take on the left wing extremists without any "empathy" for "our boys."

SSridhar, looks like the match is now Kar.Govt - 0 v/s Mahdani & Cronies - 1. The local media in Kerala (especially the TV folks) were having a field day, in now hollering that the whole case is a politically motivated one. VS Acharya should have shown maturity (or common sense, and judged the media better). BTW, Mahdani's police custody ends today and it still a question whether Bengaluru police plans to ask for more days in police custody, or the court sends him off in judicial remand. Mahdani has also field a bail petition as well.

The NDF,PDP and ilk are facing a tough situation in Kerala, with even their top brass now getting summoned to various police stations day in and day out (it is the turn of their media boss to report at the PS today). These folks never thought that K.P would bark up the entire tree and start chasing the top leaders. If Mahdani's case gets scuttled, it would now give these fellows also some excuse to whine about police specifically targetting them without evidence.

Don't know why. But I feel PC is still the right chap (or the better among the lot) to be the HM. Things may be going very bad, and RoP involvement in terrorism is getting exposed every minute. Consider a situation when the ruling govt., the media and the opposition starts hollering against RoP and terrorism. The goose of RoPers (the good, bad and ugly amongst them) is cooked. The nation may start witnessing riots and arson. As the folks who rule the country UPA have to prevent that from happening. So the "Hindu terrorism" also needs to be mixed in equal measure so that people remain confused.
