I was reading a report in The Hindu yesterday. During the MNS rally a police constable in uniform walked upto the dais and gave a flower to Raj Thackeray. Guess this PC was from the Wireless Branch. The commissioner acted quite swiftly and the PC has been detained. As I see it looks like the lower rung of the Mumbai Police does not have high hopes on the IPS-wallahs. The lower rungs would be most likely people from other parts of rural Maharashtra who may not be very keen on pseudo-secularism, political correctness etc.

I have always said people moved enmasse out of NE due to lack of jobs, availability of some jobs in other parts and awareness. security was much worse in 80s and early 90s and people didnt move out then except those directly threatened by extortionists and terrorists.

nothing changed in the job situation last couple weeks.

so these boys have no other option but to return soon and get back in their prior jobs. as the 1st set returns and phones back that things are fine, the trickle will turn into a flood until water level is back upto par.

NE exodus- 4000 return to Bangalore
Posted on August 22, 2012 | Leave a comment
After the exodus in which 29636 Indians from North East left Bangalore, a special train today ferried back 4000 of them back to the city. A special train from Guwhati arrived at the Bangalore railway station earlier this evening in which there were 4000 people.
However the train comprised only students and no person who was from the service industry was part of this special train. Interestingly most of the students who returned to Bangalore were accompanied by their parents. They said at the railway station that they would like to be with their children for sometime since they were worried about their safety.
Among the crowd of 4000 there were around 154 fresh faces too who came into Bangalore for the first time. These students had got admission in a private college and were coming to the city as their classes are to begin soon.

Another train is expected later tonight. That train too may have only students. The persons who are working are expected to return in a couple of days.

In the end the Commissioner's inaction put the govt in a sorry spot and demoralised the ranks. In addition his statement that Mumbai women cops were not manhandled/molested was incorrect and seen more like supporting the rioters. Did he want them to be raped?

Too bad he wasn't dismissed but then Road Building Corp is career ending in police. He might be able to make it up somehow.

One bright spot is his insistence on videotaping the rioters to ensure evidence based arrests. The inaction emboldened the rioters to come out openly and be caught on tape.

Sachin, In the old days the police needed a District Magistrate or Collector level IAS officer's agreement to order firing. Is this still valid?

Yes it is still there. In all cases of police deployment, Executive Magistrates are also deputed and Police has to seek orders. There are some exceptions when Police officer can use force. They need not be IAS , any officer who has been conferred with magisterial power can do so.

In some places, Metropolitan cities and few others Executive Magistrate power is conferred upon police officer not below the rank of Asst Supdt of Police. They take their own decisions regarding use of force. They are called Asst Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police , Additional Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Police. Of course SHOs cant use force without Asst CP being on the spot and giving order. Same exceptions apply here also in exceptions.

Government blocks Twitter handles of journalists, right-wing groups - here is the proof
The ministry of telecommunications has asked Internet Service Providers to block 16 Twitter accounts, including those of right-wing entities and leaders such as Sangh Parivar, Panchjanya magazine and Dr Pravin Togadia blogposts and hundreds of web-pages featuring user-generated content on websites such as Facebook and Youtube.
The directive to block 16 Twitter handles were part of the notification sent out by the communications ministry on August 20. Only one of the twitter handles—@PM0India (the digit zero instead of alphabet O)—bears resemblance to the prime minister's official account '@PMOIndia'.

The Twitter accounts of two journalists—columnist Kanchan Gupta and television journalist Shiv Aroor—are among those that have been blocked.
The other twitter handles that have been blocked include Dosabandit (@dosabandit), Eagle Eye (@eagleeye47), Twitanic (@anilkohli54), Sangh Parivar (@sanghpariwar), Amit Paranjape (@aparanjape), Sumeet (@sumeetcj), Pravin Togadia (DrPravinTogadia), Panchajanya (@i_panchajanya), Barbarian Indian (@barbarindian), Scamsutra (@scamsutra), Ekakizunj (@ekakizunj) and redditindia (@redditindia).

Yes, it is there but has limited say in administration though prestige to the post is still there. Mayor is head of local administration and most of the powers are to the corporation council or the commissioner ( executive) of the corporation ( BMC)

If they felt these journalists were inciting people they have legal recourse. Getting their accounts blocked is press censorship without declaring and an Emergency.

Smacks of Emergency tactics in 1975 by same party.

its a miracle that they didn't seek to block Majorly Profund in interests of Aman ki Tamasha!

Wait Kapil Sibbal might still go for it despite the exit from the Internet stage.

Govt. to departments: Tread carefully on social media

The government on Thursday issued guidelines for its departments using social media networks asking them not to post confidential information and “unverified” facts.

“Great care must be taken to avoid propagation of unverified facts and frivolous misleading rumours,” it said.

It asked persons handling social media for all government agencies including public sector undertakings not to “comment and respond unless authorised to do so especially in the matters that are sub judice, draft legislations or relating to other individuals”.

Asking social media handlers to be polite, discrete and respectful, the guidelines said personal comments for or against any individuals or agencies should not be made and professional discussions should not be politicised.

“Not all posts/comments need to be responded to immediately and individually. Also, wherever a response is required all posts should be kept short and to the point,” it said adding infringement of IPR and copyrights of others should be avoided.

The guidelines said while employees were free to post response in their personal capacity, “it is mandatory that while they are doing so, they must clearly identify themselves, confidential information must not be divulged and should not be seen to represent ‘official view’ unless authorised to do so”.

The guidelines stated that social media can only be used by the government to communicate existing government information and propagate official policy to the public.

Social media, it said, should only be one of the components of the overall citizen engagement strategy and government departments must desist from using only social media to communicate with their stakeholders.

“Initially, the departments may just aim to post information regularly. For example, if it is a Facebook page, posting may be done at least a couple of times a week and on Twitter slightly more frequently,” it said.

The government’s communication to citizens via social media should follow the same data retention policy as its communication through other electronic and non-electronic channels.

“When any information is shared or guidance given online, it is necessary to ensure that all relevant records are captured, trail is generated and records are managed appropriately,” the guidelines stated.
Are these new guidelines already affecting the Public Diplomacy initiatives of MEA ?

'Arup Patnaik's promotion will boost morale of police personnel': R.R. Patil

http://www.newstrackindia.com/newsdetai ... date-.html
Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil on Thursday said that promoting Arup Patnaik from the rank of Police Commissioner to Director General would boost the overall morale of the uniformed services.

"Giving promotion to someone would supplement the morale. People had been asking for his (Arup Patnaik) transfer in this situation, and also suspension whereas the administration has endorsed promotion to him. Indeed, this would certainly enhance the morale of the personnel in uniform," Patil told mediapersons here.

"You are considering it as a sudden step, but it has not been taken all of a sudden. We have been discussing this matter since July 6. The file was prepared by August 8 and no adverse incident had taken place during that period," he added.

Meanwhile, Satyapal Singh, who took over as the new Mumbai Police Commissioner, said that he was honoured that he was considered eligible for the post.

"At the outset, I would like to congratulate my friend Arup Patnaik on his promotion in the rank of the DGP. Today being appointed as the police chief of the Mumbai Police, I consider it as an honour to me and I am very conscious of the heavy responsibilities this post carries," said Singh.

Satyapal Singh, the 1980 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, further said that it was very important for the Mumbai Police to restore communal harmony in the city.

"Certainly a question mark has been put on the capability of the police to maintain communal harmony in the city. Similarly, I will try my best to make Mumbai Police very very strong, very efficient, impartial and transparent leadership. We will try to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the police personnel to foster communal harmony," he said.

Patnaik, who has been promoted as Director General and posted as Managing Director of Maharashtra State Security RPT Security (MSSC), was facing flak over the August 11 Azad Maidan violence in the city.

The transfer came two days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, during a massive rally in Mumbai, had demanded immediate ouster of Patnaik over the violence at Azad Maidan, for allegedly failing to control the situation during a demonstration to protest alleged persecution of Muslims in Assam and Myanmar.

^^ Promotion is ok , he was due for that. Let us see if he gets DG of Police force or gets to some equivalent rank post such as Police Housing Society or Welfare society or Police sports promotion Society or Fire Services or CMD of some corporation /PSUs.
If he gets DGp of Maha Police then he would be boss of all Maha Police except Mumbai where Police Commissioner reports to Maha Home Ministry directly.

Looks like there will be political fallout too. Transfering Patnaik was to deflect the political pressure.
Now TOI writes an op-ed as news and bemoans the fate of Mumbai under rural politicians allowed to run Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Whether it is the deteriorating law-and-order situation or the standard of Mumbai university, mushrooming of unauthorized constructions or a steady decline in the quality of civic and health services, Mumbaikars appear to be on their own, political observers told TOI on Thursday.

Powerful cabinet members who handle key departments are from outside the city and their stakes lie in their home districts; so, by and large, they are unable to tackle problems faced by Mumbaikars, the experts said. "We feel that the ruling party and the Shiv Sena have completely ignored Mumbai. It's time all political parties sank their differences and initiated stringent measures to restore civic services,'' a senior Congress minister said.

The urban development department, for instance, is led by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who belongs to Satara. After Chavan took over the reins, it was expected that the much-delayed Rs 1,200-crore stormwater drain project would be implemented. However, despite several meetings with the prime minister, so far there has been no progress. More than a dozen other key projects are also held up either at the Mantralaya or at the Centre, but no concrete steps have been taken for their approval, experts said.

Then there is a coordination committee comprising the municipal commissioner and Mumbai police commissioner, set up to provide better services. Its aim was mainly removal of illegal structures. "During the tenure of Anami Roy and Johny Joseph, the committee met on a regular basis. But now, the committee is only on paper. There appears to be lack of political will for its revival," a senior BMC official said.

Another senior cabinet minister entrusted with the task of understanding Mumbaikars' woes is senior NCP leader and rural development minister Jayant Patil. As the city's guardian minister, it was Patil's responsibility to provide better civic services. Last year, a week before the 10-day Ganeshotsav, Patil had given a directive to the then municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar to fill up all the potholes within a week. He reportedly did not check whether work was done. Patil belongs to Sangli.

Another high profile minister is R R Patil. The home minister was elected to the state legislative assembly from Tasgaon in Sangli district. "All along, he is in Tasgaon, nursing his constituency,'' an IPS official said. Public works minister Chhagan Bhujbal has been a mayor of Mumbai and elected to the legislative assembly from Mazgaon. However, after he lost the assembly polls, he shifted base to Nashik. As a result, now his concentration is on north Maharashtra, a senior NCP leader said.

Times View: Take Mumbai more seriously

There seems to be some basis for this line of thought. The handling of many of Mumbai's problems indicates a lack of seriousness of intent and politics taking precedence over other concerns. Two instances in the last fortnight point to a collapse of law in the city. First, a rampaging mob seizes control of South Mumbai, molests women constables and burns police vans before being beaten back. Ten days later, a political party marches from Girgaum to Azad Maidan without any permission from the government. This anarchy is not confined to the law-and-order front; the series of leaks during university examinations this year points to a similar malaise in education as well. Maharashtra's politicians, irrespective of the district that sends them to the Assembly, need to be seen as taking issues concerning Mumbai more seriously. Things going wrong in Mumbai do not add to Maharashtra's glory.
I would add the 26/11 attack which exposed the city to such horrific terror with none of the leaders showing their face nor responsibility. No blast cases resolved yet since a long time.

Bending over backwards

Madhu Trehan

Rarely has an article befuddled me as much as Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand’s article, ‘Making history, not repeating it’, in

The Indian Express (August 17).
The first paragraph describes the violence in Azad Maidan: “...a Muslim mob behaved in despicable fashion — torching OB vans, attacking media persons and the police, molesting women constables, snatching arms from the police....” Then the authors laud Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik for not acting against the violent mob. The article continues, “But do allow for the possibility that responding in a most ‘un-police-like’ fashion to extreme provocation, the city’s police commissioner, Arup Patnaik, may have opened a happy chapter in the otherwise unhappy Muslim-police relationship in the metropolis.”

Let’s replace some of the words in the first paragraph with substitutes and see how it plays.

Replace “Muslim” with “Hindu”. Would the authors have written the first paragraph if the mobs were Hindus? Is the law to be adjusted according to the religion of the miscreant?

There is shocking footage of Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik ordering Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shisve to release a rioter who is being arrested. The video link has been blocked on YouTube but can be seen on Twitter links. This is how Twitter transforms from social media into political-

info media.

The footage shows PC Arup Patnaik shouting at DCP Ravindra Shisve who holds a (should I say “alleged”?) goon (pleading for mercy) by the collar, “Tumhala koni hyala pakdayala sangitla (Who has told you to catch him?)” Patnaik then threatens to have the DCP suspended.

“You take directions from the commissioner. You are not SP of Sangli. You are DCP here. You will not fall out of line or you will be suspended, stupid,” Patnaik bellows.

Am I missing something because I am not a Mumbaiker? No, because there are questions raised in Mumbai’s Mid Day newspaper (August 16, 2012). Some of the questions: “Why did Commissioner of Police Arup Patnaik force a DCP to release an apprehended rioter from the spot? If speakers incited the protesters with hate speeches, why are they still roaming free?”

The Setalvad-Anand article then reads: “Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray is most unhappy that the police commissioner did not issue a blanket shoot-to-kill order. But the latter’s exemplary restraint is precisely what peace-loving Mumbaikars need to thank him for. Instead of repeating history, Patnaik has tried creating one.” Why is Bal Thackeray’s emotional temperature relevant in this? I really don’t care much about Bal Thackeray. A fact checker would ask: How did they gauge his emotional state? It is a mystery. The gloating over Bal Thackeray’s mental state stoops to the lowest denominator of one-upmanship.

The authors continue: “Thankfully, Patnaik, who was a deputy commissioner of police when Bombay burned (1992-93), has not forgotten either. It’s his act of remembering, and reminding, that prevented yet another bloodbath and ensured that the situation did not spin entirely out of control last Saturday.”

Every community is scarred by wounds that cannot be picked up selectively as a response justification. A fact checker would ask: How do the authors know that Patnaik’s mind “remembering and reminding” was his reason for asking his DCP to release a goon? A slight understanding of how India works would tell you that the order to do exactly that had come from political bosses.

More pearls: “As things stand today, the Mumbai police are the injured party, while the city’s Muslim leadership, such as it is, is compelled to do all the explaining, apologising, forgiveness-seeking, appreciating the role of the police.”

The authors seem to believe that there is a moral high ground in becoming the “injured party”, possibly from a habit of victim-self-righteous-politics. No security force should ever be reduced to an “injured party”. Their morale to protect our nation could hardly be triggered by the satisfaction — let them run riot, but hey, now THEY will have to explain, apologise and seek forgiveness! Is there any dot of understanding about how demoralising it was for the police force?

The authors conclude: “But the police commissioner’s remarkable restraint has opened up an opportunity to heal wounds, open a new chapter. It’s an opportunity Muslims must grab with both hands.”

“Muslims must grab with both hands”? They expect the same mobsters to be so moved to soft emotion that they will grab hands and sing Hum Honge Kamyaab some d-a-ay? A Bollywood screenwriter would say: Yeh realistic ending nahin hai! Badlo!

We have all read about the controversy magnet Teesta Setalvad. I believed she worked hard for what she believed in: getting justice for victims of violence in Gujarat 2002. But, with Teesta it was difficult to keep up with the spiralling versions of each issue. Even then, I gave her the benefit of a busybody do-gooder. Now this article puts a complete end to that assessment.

What motivates social activists? Let’s play with humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow’s Humanistic Theory of Self-Actualisation (the “Hierarchy of Needs” theory and self-actualisation). First, it starts with the need to help others and it is altruistic. With a bit of success and acknowledgement of the good work he/she is doing, the activist becomes a hero. He/she gains followers and is surrounded by sycophants. Any challenging views are dismissed. The final stage takes place — the activist falls in love with himself/herself. Now this activist who started with altruistic reasons, has become a danger to society. The activist is so taken in by his/her Jungian Hero Archetype bordering on the Martyr Archetype, that anyone else’s opinion or perspective is held in contempt. Because the Archetype is so enthralled by his/her own sacrifices to the cause, to make them worthwhile, blind faith in one’s self is essential. If he/she admits he/she is wrong on any point, it means a lifetime of service has been wasted.

Gujarat 2002 upset and shook me up. Many Tweeters have sincerely tried to convince me that Narendra Modi was not responsible. I, sincerely, have not been convinced so far, since I have seen stories with evidence and footage that show the opposite. But an article like this one by Setalvad-Anand is enough to turn me into what is called an Internet Hindu. India cannot afford to have different rules of engagement based on people’s religion, caste or gender. I believe that is enshrined in our Constitution. Destroying the Constitution for a vote-bank is worse corruption than black money. An incendiary article by Setalvad-Anand can do as much damage as violence in Azad Maidan. To paraphrase Arun Shourie: This is bending over backwards.

http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/08/2 ... 9Z20120821
(Reuters) - India pressed social media websites including Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday to remove "inflammatory" content it said helped spread rumours that caused an exodus of migrants from some cities last week.

The government said in a statement it had already blocked access to 245 web pages it said contained doctored videos and images, and the telecommunications secretary, R Chandrashekhar, threatened legal action against the websites if they did not fully comply with the requests to take down the offending pages  .

Chandrashekhar told CNN-IBN television that Google(GOOG.O) and Facebook(FB.O) had largely complied with the government's requests while the response from Twitter had been "extremely poor", though he added that this "may be in part because they don't have an office in India".

Twitter was not immediately available for comment.

"A lot of inflammatory and harmful content/information has been found to be appearing on the social networking sites hosted outside the country," the government statement said.

The government met representatives of social media sites on Friday to push its case, it said.

The crackdown will likely rekindle a debate on freedom of speech and censorship of the Internet in the world's largest democracy.

Media group Reporters Without Borders said in March that India was increasing pressure on Internet service providers to supply users' personal data. Google says that between July and December 2011 there was a 49 percent jump in requests from India for content to be removed from its services, compared to the previous six-month period.

In a move that will likely add to their concerns, the government on Tuesday blocked a number of Twitter accounts that spoof the prime minister, local media reported.

"The government is for free information. There is no question of anything being censored here. But that does not mean there are not limitations :(( ," a senior official in the Ministry of Home Affairs said, adding that authorities were trying to identify those responsible for posting the inflammatory material.

Thousands of students and workers from India's northeast fled Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities last week fearing retaliation for violence against Muslims in the remote tea-growing state of Assam after threatening mobile phone text messages and website images sowed panic.

Clashes between indigenous people in Assam and Muslim settlers from neighbouring Bangladesh have killed nearly 80 people and displaced some 300,000 since July.

INDIA BLAMES PAKISTAN

A cyber law expert said blocking web pages was "like putting a band-aid on a leaking roof". "It's a strategy that is doomed to failure from the word go. There are so many indirect ways to access the Net," said Pavan Duggal.

India has not released details of the blocked pages but said in a statement that "international social networking sites" had indicated that much of the content had been uploaded from neighbouring Pakistan, a long-time foe with which it has fought three wars.

An industry executive, who did not wish to be named, said companies "cannot share such information with the government".

"It's beyond their jurisdiction. This is an international issue, which the government is well aware of," said the executive.

Google and Facebook said they were cooperating with the government.

"We have received requests from Indian authorities and agencies and are working through those requests and responding to the agencies," Facebook said in a statement released by their Indian representatives.

Google has accepted the government's request to take down some content, while discussions are continuing on other requests, said a source with knowledge of the developments.

"We understand the gravity of the situation, strongly condemn acts of violence and continue to work closely with relevant authorities," Google spokeswoman Paroma Roy Chowdhury said in a statement.

Media reports said many of those panicked by the fear-mongering text messages and Internet postings have begun returning home this week.

I thought it will be clear by now but the smoke screen cast by GOI and paid media is still thick and murky.
So any authentic figures on victims of Assam riots yet ??

I mean what is the split between the the dead and displaced between the Bodos and Bengali muslims ??

Are the riots really "anti-immigrant" - therefore "anti-muslim" allowing for "muslim victimization" being putup as the cause for mumbai rampage by minions in media - Owaisi was even threatening India regarding this in parliament.

What is the probability that these riots are in reality anti-Bodo riots ??

IHMO, As far as this issue is concerned, they(GOI/Media) have managed it well. Authentic figures would have inflamed the situation which is already fragile.

They have kept Amnesty International, UNHRC, etc away from this issue. Plus, they have kept the international community guessing regarding the situation. Every nation would have issued a communique/condemnation as if they are really worried about Indians.

Forget them, RNIs would have a field day bashing India both at home and through out international capitals which would earn them an all paid "foreign trip" and other "perks"
I mean what is the split between the the dead and displaced between the Bodos and Bengali muslims ??
Those numbers are very hard to comeby. But that is the whole idea, keep the numbers suppressed until the situation is brought under control.

It is indeed "anti-immigrant". It is going on for decades, both congress and communist parties gained immensely from bangladesi immigrants.

That explains why Communist parties are conspicuously silent on this issue.

Pakis tried to exploit the fault lines, by clubbing the Burma and Assam issues together. They would be very happy with the results. Previously they would have thought an uprising is possible only in Kashmir.

The good news is, the Secular media got their fair share of thrashing from "Peaceful community".

The police (for no fault of their's) got a bit of thrashing too. With due respect to those injured policemen, this is a necessary evil. This is a sort of wakeup call for the policemen, they would know how to deal with the "Peaceful community" in the future.
What is the probability that these riots are in reality anti-Bodo riots ??
IMHO, highly unlikely.

Kish ji ,
All the usual suspects are mum on these riots - only equal equal echoes are being heard through paid media. Also this media which is uber sikular wrt any instance of Hindu violence is refraining from propping up hindutva as the reason for assam rioting (highly strange since 90% of bodos are supposed to practice hinduism) In addition nothing in Bangladesh seems to be stirring from these riots. No reprisal attacks on Hindus there.
One can look at this frantic stage management just as some thing which is aimed at not giving Cangrez in a Cangrez ruled state a "major riot" black mark before 2014.
But i think there is something definitely black in the lentils concerning the Assam Riots and the real identity of its perpetrators.

Exodus of Bengali Hindus

Assam refugees head for West Bengal, Meghalaya
When armed communities are at each other’s throats in the three violence-hit western districts in Assam, the unarmed and unorganised are fleeing the state — mostly to West Bengal and Meghalaya. The fear factor has gripped Bengali Hindus — the softest target whenever violence takes over the state’s fragile peace — and Koch-Rajbonsi tribals are fleeing the Muslim-dominated Dhubri district over the last one month since the Bodo-Muslim clashes broke out on July 20.

Bengali-speaking people from the Mankachar subdivision of Dhubri are moving to the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya less than 10km away while people from Gauripur and Bilasipara areas are covering about 20km to reach Bengal’s Cooch Behar district — mainly inhabited by the Rajbonsis.

Assam home secretary GD Tripathi said reports of non-Muslims fleeing certain areas would be looked into. “We will take steps to instil confidence in the people,” he said, adding that extra forces had been deployed to keep peace. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Po ... pg-01b.jpg

Officials in Dhubri confirmed that Bengali Hindus have been leaving for the two neighbouring states. In some cases, male members of families have returned from Cooch Behar and West Garo Hills, leaving women and children in the safe custody of relatives.

4. I notice that the BJP, the supporters of Shri Modi and other right-wing elements have since been trying to do so with the help of IT-savvy supporters of the Hindutva ideology in India and the US. In fact, it has been my impression that the Hindutva elements have had a head-start over the Congress in the use of the online media, including the social media networks, for the dissemination of their ideology and points of view.
Kanchan recently resigned from “The Pioneer” in which he was holding a senior position and took charge of a new online news journal. Sometime later, I received an E-mail from a journalist working for a New Delhi-based journal which had played an active role in the witch-hunt and inquisition of Barkha Dutt of NDTV towards 2010-end. He said in his mail that he was planning a story on the BJP’s Net-based media strategy and wanted to have a discussion with me on this. His request was triggered by some comments tweeted by me some months ago on the 2008 brain-storming. Subsequently, I had also tweeted drawing attention to a report carried by Rediff on the likely net-based media budgets of the BJP and Shri Modi. I did not reply to him.
.While three of the communications directed the blocking of the sites/lines of Islamic organisations, either in India or Pakistan, the fourth included the Twitter lines of some Hindus/Hindu entities too and asked for them to be blocked. My assessment from this is that after having initially targeted some Islamic sites/lines, the Government wanted to convey an impression to the Muslim community that it was being objective by bringing some Hindus/Hindu entities too in the lists.
12. It needs to be noted that while the Islamic sites carry on vicious, provocative propaganda, the Hindus and Hindu entities targeted by the Government do not do so. They merely counter the pernicious propaganda of the Islamic fundamentalists. The Government has sought to silence them too by targeting them.
13. In my view, Kanchan was one of those thus targeted by the Government for the following reasons:
( a ).Amongst the pro-Hindutva journalists, he is the most active online.
( b ).He is seen by the Government as spearheading the Net-based media strategy of the Hindutva and other right-wing elements.
( c ). His new online venture is seen by the Government as having been started with an eye on the 2014 elections.

You now know why one of Mahatma Gandhi's last wishes was to disband Congress after independence.

that Raman article shows just how deeply the paranoia is inculcated in the super duper spies. the institutional architecture of the current regime is not a friend of Hindus. it is, if anything, intensely paranoid of and mistrusts anything "saffron". Raman's entire post is full of the same instinct. an almost unstoppable, visceral need to view from an angle of suspicion and distaste.

I don't know whether people have read last issue of IT on violence in Assam...I did to pass time at a shop and it was on expected lines. The whole feature has been written in a manner to potray Muslims as the victims...and makes impassioned attempts to downplay the illegal migration issue by going repeatedly on tangents...it was outright disgusting. Similar story line appeared in TOI yesterday or a day before that...they would have us believe that it is minorities which are being targeted.

Chirang: Five people have been killed in fresh violence in Chirang district of Assam.

They were reportedly killed while returning to their village from a relief camp.

Over two thousand people, who fled their villages in fear owing to the clashes, have been living in relief camps in the state.

Nearly 80 people have died in the last one month in ethnic violence in parts of Lower Assam between the indigenous Bodo tribals and Muslim settlers.

These are mostly social engineered behavior and paranoia.
There is fragmentation of social identity and aliaenation. Some fo these RNI feel out of place with their own kith and kin
