They have arrested one Abdul Qadir this morning for that.

Mumbai: A 19-year-old youth, one of the two who allegedly desecrated the Amar Jawan memorial during the August 11 violence in Mumbai, was today arrested after being picked up from his hideout in Bihar, police said.

“Abdul Quadir Mohammed Younus Ansari, an unemployed youth, was picked up from Sitamarhi in Bihar yesterday. He was preparing to flee to Nepal when he was apprehended,” said joint Police Commissioner (crime) Himanshu Roy.

Subsequently, he was brought to Mumbai today and placed under arrest, following which he was produced before a
local court which remanded him in police custody till 4 September, Roy added.

Has anyone seen a article on what the Bangladeshis are doing to Hindus and Buddhists and what it means to invite such a culture into India?

Aurangabad police commissioner Sanjay Kumar on Monday evening released booklet containing names and addresses of 290 students from north eastern states in Aurangabad and also names of police officers to whom they could approach.

The crime branch on Tuesday said they have arrested one of the two men who vandalised the Amar Jawan memorial during the mob violence at Azad Maidan on August 11. Police arrested Abdul Qadir Mohammed Ansari, 19, from Sitamadi in Bihar. Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy said Ansari was trying to escape to Nepal when he was arrested.

Police had put the two accused on top of their list of people to be arrested for the violence, which left two dead and 63 injured. A local court has remanded Ansari in police custody till September 4.

A resident of Jogeshwari (East), the 19-year-old escaped from city after newspapers carried photographs that showed him damaging the memorial. “He took the Muzafapur Express and stayed with his relatives in Bihar,” said an official from the crime branch, requesting anonymity.

Police traced his location and a crime branch team was flown to Bihar on Monday. Sources said Ansari had been alerted about the possibility of his arrest, and was about to cross into Nepal when the crime branch team arrested him and brought him back to the city.

Police sources said Ansari is unemployed and his father teaches at a madarssa in Jogeshwari. He has five brothers and two sisters. Two of his brothers are maulavis in Uttar Pradesh; one is a maulavi in the city; one works at a mobile repair shop, while the youngest one is studying in school.

Revelations by Abdul Qadir Mohammed Ansari, who was arrested on Monday, and Tabrez Mohammad Jamal Sayyed, who was apprehended a day earlier, give further evidence of a conspiracy to sabotage the Azad Maidan rally, police sources have claimed. A senior crime branch officer told HT on Tuesday that the information provided by the duo pointed to a plot hatched by hardline Islamic groups to create trouble. HT was the first to report that the violence was not just an emotional outburst, but a conspired act.

Sources claimed that Ansari, a regular at a madarsa in Jogeshwari, was part of a large group motivated into sabotaging the rally. Several preachers addressed students at the madarsa on different occasions, highlighting alleged persecution of Muslims across the world, and exhorting revenge.

The source also said the students were exposed to several doctored images and provocative speeches. Meetings for the preparation of violence at the rally followed at several other places too. Many from the group eventually took part in the violence.

Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy, confirmed that Ansari, like many in his group, had attended the motivational sessions at Jogeshwari, which formed a part of the larger conspiracy.

Sources said that on August 8, the other accused Tabrez attended a similar meeting in south-central Mumbai. Police have recovered video clippings of the meeting from his cell phone.

Senior IPS officer NC Asthana of CRPF was on Tuesday at the centre of a controversy over his remarks that there was a ‘strong under-current against India’ in Kashmir, prompting the home ministry to say that action would be taken, if required.

Fifty two-year-old Asthana, a 1986 batch IPS officer from Kerala, has penned down a book India’s Internal Security: The Actual Concerns along with his wife Anjali Nirmal, which speaks about his tenure in the Valley during 2010 unrest.

When contacted, a spokesperson of the ministry of home affairs said, “MHA is seized of the matter. We are examining the content of the book. If required, action will be taken.”

Though security honchos in Jammu and Kashmir were taken aback by his comments, separatists have hailed his remarks as a ‘realistic’ assessment of the situation.Leading the charge is Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who has asked New Delhi to pay heed to ‘people full of conscience’ and solve the Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state.

“Asthana’s assessment is based on facts which New Delhi is not able to come to terms with. New Delhi can rule the people but it cannot win their hearts. New Delhi should accept the truth on Kashmir because it will not only help in solving the riddle but will directly and indirectly benefit crores of people,” said Ayaz Akbar, Hurriyat spokesman.

Independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rasheed aka Engineer Rasheed called Asthana a brave officer who has made ‘realistic’ observations on Kashmir. “There have been several examples when retired civil and police officers have shown the bravery by speaking truth on Kashmir. He is the first serving officer who has spoken out truth and made the realistic observation on Kashmir,” he said.

The ruling National Conference (NC) however termed Asthana as ‘non-entity’ and refused to comment on his remarks. “Kashmir is a political issue and only politicians can put forth their comments. Asthana is no body and his remarks merit no comments,” Tanvir Sadiq, NC spokesman told DNA.

Nayeem Akthar, PDP chief spokesman, told DNA, “It is one of the views that have come from senior officer who has been handling situation at ground zero.”

A book titled Assam Terrorism and the Demographic Chal-lenge (Centre for Land Warfare Studies-Knowledge World), written by me and published in 2009, assumes greater relevance in the light of the recent riots in Kokrajhar. It dwells on how the demographic pattern of at least eight districts in Assam got adversely altered over two decades of terrorism by United Liberation Front of Assom (Ulfa), when its leaders were hiding in Bangladesh.

The agitation culminated in the Assam Accord signed by the central government and representatives of All Assam Students Union (AASU), which was largely an economic package. The Illegal Migration Determination by Tribunal (IMDT) Act enacted by the ruling Congress in 1983, replacing the Foreigner’s Act of 1946, was clearly driven by political agenda of vote bank. It virtually regularised illegal migrants from Bangladesh who migrated into India up to March, 1971 and even beyond. Peace was bought through a financial package on one hand, and status-quo prevailed in terms of accepting Bangladeshis who migrated before March, 1971 as Indian citizens on the other. The vote bank was saved. Constitutionality of such an accord between a students union and central government was never questioned.
This Act made it almost impossible for a Bangladeshi migrant to be deported from Assam. Under the Act, the onus of establishing nationality rested not on the illegal migrant, not on the government, but on an individual who had to pay a fee to lodge a complaint to a stipulated jurisdiction. It took 22 years for the Supreme Court to repeal IMDT Act as un-constitutional in 2005.

As I had assessed in early 1992, Barua and gang soon came into the strong grip of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) detachment in Bangladesh. The Ulfa escapees not only became conduits for ISI to enter India ’s Northeast region to establish contacts with other violent groups there, but also became its great assets for anti-India activities. Ulfa became an effective tool of the ISI for pursuing its aim of inducting and settling illegal Bangladeshi migrants in various parts into Assam, raising new madarasas and controlling old ones and trying to convert ethnic Assamese Muslims to fundamentalism, creating communal tension, circulating fake Indian currency, trafficking arms and narcotics, sabotaging installations-particularly rail and oil- and public services, assassinations and massacres and generally spreading terror. Whenever Ulfa felt the heat of Army operations, its oft-repeated ploy was to cry out for ceasefire and negotiation, only to get respite and reorganise itself.

According to news reports, the recent July-August 2012 riots between Bodos and non-Bodos/non-Assamese in Kokrajhar, being referred to as “Bangladeshis/Mians from Bangladesh” and its neighbouring districts have left 77 killed and about 3,78,045 people rendered homeless. This being an official figure, no one knows how many more people have taken shelter in the safe zones. Out of the displaced, 2,66,700 are Muslims and 1,11,345 are Bodos. They are in 235 relief camps spread across four districts of the state. Of the 235 camps, 99 camps are for Bodo residents and 136 camps are for Muslim residents. Dhubri district has 90 relief camps, Kokrajhar has 71, Chirang has 62 and Bongaigaon has 12. School and college summer-breaks have been extended. According to news reports and visuals from networks, many of these camps are a living hell. Till some days ago, there were reportedly only 117 doctors available for almost 4,00,000 displaced people in these camps, where at least 8,000 children were reported to be sick. With very little or no water, very few toilets and nothing more than only rice to eat, there seems scant hope of any improvement in the health and hygiene.

A senior journalist based in Guwahati, working for a national daily, who visited Kokrajhar soon after the riots erupted reflected general concern when he remarked while speaking to me: “If Bodos, considered quite fierce, have been targeted, what will be the plight of non-Bodos/ Assamese…. No one wants to go back to their villages…. “Bodoland is our birth right” is the slogan written on bus stops and walls of buildings.”

The large gathering at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan protesting against what transpired against Muslims in Assam and Burma can very likely be attributed to the well-established Pak ISI and Mumbai underworld connection cemented by Dawood Ibrahim in 1993, prior to the Mumbai blasts.
What is ironic is that both the Centre and Assam government, led by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, are now enthusiastically negotiating with the so-called pro-talks faction of Ulfa, whose members actively catalysed and greatly boosted the process of illegal migration by Bangladeshis and also got them settled in many areas by terrorising/massacring Assamese and non-Assamese-speaking communities during the two decades till the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was in power.

Tensions have been rising in the north-east following clashes between indigenous Bodos and Muslims in neighbouring Assam state in July.

Thousands of people from the north-east have also fled many Indian cities after threats of revenge attacks by Muslims.

Over the years, the Bengali Muslim population in Nagaland has grown.

In a joint operation, Uttar Pradesh police and Bangalore City Crime Branch police on Wednesday arrested nine youths from Bangalore and Hubli on charges of involving in ‘anti-national’ activities.

Four were picked up from Keshwapur and Old Hubli areas in Hubli in the wee hours of Wednesday and five from Bangalore.

The police have recovered computers and other electronic gadgets from them. Unconfirmed sources in Hubli said the youths were arrested in connection with a bomb blast. Imran Bahadduri, Dr Zakir Hussain Sheikh, Wayid Hussain Kanakannavar, all residents of Keshwapur and Zafar Iqbal Sollapuri of Old Hubli were picked up from their homes.

The team, headed by CCB inspector N B Sakri, took the arrested persons to Bangalore for further investigation. The local police were kept out of the loop.

In Bangalore, police reportedly picked up five men living in a rented room in Mubarak Mohalla in Munireddy Palya in the early hours of Wednesday.

Local residents told Deccan Herald that three plainclothesmen drove up in a car and picked up the five men living in a second floor rented flat. They were later identified as Mohammed Yusuf, Riyaz, two brothers -Shoaib and Ijaz - and Muthi-ur-Rehman Siddiqui. Bangalore police, however, were tightlipped

The probe by the Bengaluru police in coordination with the special cell of the Delhi [ Images ] police has revealed that the team of 10 persons from the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami and the Lashkar-e-Tayiba [ Images ] had split into two groups to carry out a series of operations in Karnataka [ Images ]. The police had busted the module earlier in the day.

The journalist, Muthiur Rehman, Ejaz Mirza, a research scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation and three others were assigned with the task of killing a few journalists in Bengaluru.

The other five who were arrested from Hubli were tasked with the job of killing politicians in Karnataka. A 9 mm pistol and a hard drive have been seized from the arrested.

The hard drive, which is still being examined by the police, is said to contain some important material and belongs to Rehman.

Sources say that the operation was being looked into by handlers in Saudi Arabia and these persons were in constant touch with them regarding the operation. Although their operation looks very Karnataka-specific at the moment, the police want to find out if this group had connections outside the state as well.

The Delhi police is likely to seek a transit remand of these persons and take them in for questioning.

Although the police have said that they have been arrested in connection with these assassination plots, they are also looking to find out if this group had planned more subversive activities in other parts of the state of Karnataka and the rest of the country.

The police say that they were targetting personalities including journalists who they perceived to be anti-Islamic.

"They were gathering material against these persons, and were monitoring their speeches and articles. Only after this a hit list was been drawn out," said an official.

The police will also look for clues with regard to the recent panic SMS campaign after the Assam riots. A police official said that this group has been in Karnataka for a long time.

But the fact that the arrested persons have a journalist and a research scientist among them, indicates that the perpetrators needed educated persons in the plot, as they wanted to ensure that the operation was foolproof and deadly

Police said all had links with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadal-Islami. Ejaz Mohammed Mirza, one of the men arrested, works for Airborne Early Warning and Control System, a DRDO division, sources in central intelligence and state home ministry said.

In a horrifying disclosure that will surely give you the goose bumps, one of the accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case of July 2008, Mujib Shaikh, has confessed of planting a bomb near a tution class so as to kill kids and add as many figures to the casualty list. Mujib confessed before police that he had chosen Maninagar crossroads as one of the spots to plant a bomb to target children who come for their tuitions daily at a complex located there.

Shaikh had personally visited the two spots chosen near Maninagar crossroads and had also assisted Shakeel Nishar to plant the bomb at one place and Zeeshan Ahmed at the other.

According to police, Shaikh had selected both the spots as they were also in close proximity of stalls vending paan-gutkha and tea, thus increasing their potential to inflict as many casualties as possible. According to police, Shaikh has told them that after having planted the bombs he reached Kalupur Railway Station to catch a train for Delhi.

Identified as Shahbaz Abdul Kadir Sheikh, 20, he was arrested Thursday from Mahim in south central Mumbai.

Two others - Fausef Sheikh, 20, and Faizal Mohammed Hussain, 18 - were also arrested from different parts of Mumbai for violence, taking the tally of arrests to 58 in the case, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

Giving information about the damages caused to public property, including BEST buses, media and police vans, Roy said that the total value of damages caused is Rs.2.12 crore and that might go up in the future.

The losses will be recovered from those responsible, according to Section 51A of Bombay Police Act, he added.

Shahbaz, who is also a resident of Jogeshwari, has a criminal record and was arrested in 2006 in a theft case. He will be presented before a magistrate court Friday.

The son and nephew of Saquib Nachan, former SIMI leader and an accused in the Mulund bomb blast case, were arrested by Thane police crime branch officials today.

His son Shamil Nachan and his cousin Akhis were arrested by the Thane police for their alleged links with the Pakistani spy agency ISI and the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen.
