Turkey reported first COVID infection 5 days back. Had only 6 till yesterday. But reported 12 new cases today. Compared to the size of their population, their per capita infection is higher than India now. Things will get interesting for Erdogan shortly. He cannot afford to extend his amry in Libya and Syria.

Also Turks are heavy smokers. COVID will be very acute if not deadly for their population. Feeling sorry for the people (not Erdogan).

All flights from Turkey have just been stopped by GOI.

I believe we have a range of options w.r.t Syria/Turkey
1. Tourist advisory not to visit Turkey. Restrict slots of Turkish airlines (their code share partner Indigo loses money on the Istanbul route and will
be happy to stop).
2. Unwritten policy of no govt contracts (like Warships) to Turkish companies, which can be done without invoking WTO strictures.
3. Train officers of the SAA (which we historically have done with Iraq & Afghanistan). Supply older Soviet hardware and help them maintain
what they have. Israel will not mind as that hardware is not a threat to the IDF (their concern is Hezbollah, long range missiles and the S 3/400).
4. Rake up Armenian genocide /Kurdish atrocities /Detention of journalists etc at all forums.

old news from April 2016, but it is still relevant today when the turks hypocritically mouthing off about "religious" persecution in India

Islamist Turkey seizes ALL Christian churches in city and declares them 'state property'

TURKEY'S Islamist government has stepped up its war on Christianity by seizing all the churches in one city and declaring them state property.

By NICK GUTTERIDGE
PUBLISHED:Fri, Apr 22, 2016

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has taken control of six churches in the war-torn southeastern city of Diyarbakir in his latest move to squash freedom of speech and religious movement.

The state-sanctioned seizure is just the latest in a number of worrying developments to come out of increasingly hardline Turkey, which is in advanced talks with the EU over visa-free travel for its 80 million citizens.

Included in the seizures are Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox churches, one of which is over 1,700 years old.

why

Do you really think all the turkis love us and only erdogan hates us

this is a typical Indianism.

people to people contacts is a propaganda myth and psyops.

it is only the foolish Hindu who sings "eashwara, allah tero naam, sabko sanmati de bhagwan". You will never find any minority who thinks or ever sings this piece of crap.

the paki people, as do the beedis and the lankans, hate us.

the racist goras look down on us.

if people to people contacts were fine as many claim, then why are so many gora and jehadis mofos over here in India trying so hard to convert the Hindus.
If they are looking to convert people here it simply means they think that they as well as their culture and civilization are far superior to ours. So, in reality, they look down on us.

no amount of sugar coating is going to change the fact the chalk and cheese just do not mix.

what remains is only the civility of social intercourse between nations as it well should be but we are blinded to being fooled by their cunning taqiya because we never seem to know better.

can you deny that erdogan is playing turki islamic jehadi politics and saying exactly what he knows his jehadi constituency wants to hear.

Erdogan is a fairly popular leader in Turkey. It's the people who have voted him into power and keep him there.
In fact, the masses (majority) were always conservative but were kept in line by the secular westernised army. That's why there were so many coups.

The vast majority of the contract is for Indian manufacturers. Turkish shipyard are more like design consultants than anything else. It is very possible that the other alternatives might have been costlier. Given the current economic situation and their currency valuation, Turkish quote might have been the cheapest. While punishing Turkey, we don't need to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Just cutting tourism from India would do.

Stupid decision. These are not some hi tech warships. Even if it costs little more, we could have given the contracts to any of our allies. or even L&T could have delivered them. If we dont want to cancel this deal, then why make a pretense before and become a laughing stock now ? Erdogan will continue to poke India and comment on Indian internal affairs. We keep on giving impression to Turkey that how much shyte they give us, we will continue to do business with them with no backlash. That is what emboldens them.

Concern was also of these jihadis moving around in our shipyard during the construction of these warships. A turkish speaking paki could easily be made a part of this group to spy on us.

Why, why, why
The defence ministry’s vigilance department was asked to review the order and gave a go-ahead, said one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified. Similarly, inputs were received from MEA on diplomatic implications, after which it was decided to proceed with the Turkish collaborator

More on the specifics of the deal
A member of the SAHA Istanbul Defense, Aviation and Aerospace Cluster, Turkey's largest industrial group that has undertaken important responsibilities for the country's defence and aviation industries, TAIS will manufacture the ships in a local shipyard as part of the Indian project.

As part of its tasks in the project, TAIS will be responsible for the modernization of the shipyard, the design of the ships, engineering services, planning and management of production, preparation of shipbuilding material specifications and main materials.
So HSL will not build anything, it will be the jihadi turks who will do that from the scratch to the finished product including planning and management of production in HSL facility. great.

here is one opinion

India to go ahead with $2.3 billion Turkish shipyard deal.. Turkish shipyards are a major supplier of warships to the Pakistani Navy and concerns had been raised on how access to the strategic HSL by its engineers and workers could result in serious security issues. HSL is located close to the Ship Building Centre, where India’s nuclear armed submarines are built, as well as the Eastern Naval headquarters.
all that is now required to make this a truly complex mix are a few local jehadis who are convinced that the ummah is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

during their stay, the turks will only employ specific people as domestic help, drivers and righteously seek out the halal in most of their dealings.

of course, the IB will be watching every turki and their contacts, tapping all phones and monitoring all movement.

Turkey's Covid-19 infection rate rising fastest in the world
Turkey’s number of coronavirus infections is increasing by more than 3,000 a day, reaching 30,217 since the first case was confirmed four weeks ago.

Reported fatalities remain much lower than other badly hit countries, at 649, but the infection figures suggest Turkey has the fastest rising number of confirmed cases in the world.

President Recep Tayip Erdoğan, usually no stranger to heavy-handed tactics, has resisted calls by doctors’ unions and opposition politicians to order people to stop going to work and stay home, insisting that the “wheels of the economy must keep turning”.

Turkey is still recovering from a 2018 currency crash, leading economists and policymakers to fear a coronavirus-induced recession is inevitable.
Aside from the health and economic crises, the pandemic has also inflamed Turkey’s deep political divides.

A bill due to be passed this week by parliament will free up to a third of Turkey’s prison population on home arrest or early release, but hundreds of jailed human rights activists, journalists and opposition politicians will not be eligible.

Early drafts of the bill that would have included sex offenders and those convicted of gender-based violence were dropped after opposition from women’s rights groups. At least 14 women have been murdered since coronavirus protections began, exacerbating Turkey’s dire domestic violence problem.

A government donation campaign has also been criticised, after it became clear that employees at some companies with ties to the ruling party, and civil servants, had had to make compulsory donations from their salaries. At the same time, fundraising efforts by opposition-controlled metropolitan city councils in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir have been shut down.

Reporters without Borders said seven journalists had been arrested for reporting on the pandemic and charged with “spreading panic”. At least 385 people are being investigated for critical social media posts.

for now.

and both are getting treated just like they deserve.

Modi understands their taqiya as much as they do.

they have both been thrown some crumbs in a rather contemptuous manner, considering what they asked for and what they have been given in terms of quantity.

more begging will result in a marginal increase in the supply from India.

niazi's friends both thought that they would slyly pass on to the pakis some of what they have got from us.

wonder what happened to the paki iron brother.

India’s Quiet Responses Against Turkey’s Diplomatic Offensive
Turkey’s vocal stance on Kashmir has not gone unnoticed in New Delhi.
By Niranjan Marjani, March 07, 2020

There are different facets to India handling its relations with Pakistan. One of the targets that India has been pursuing relentlessly is the isolation of Pakistan at the international level, and that includes taking steps to counter those countries that stand against India while siding with Pakistan. This has been evident in India’s relations with Turkey and the way India has been responding to Ankara’s pro-Pakistan and anti-India stand. It is necessary to analyze how Turkey has been taking an offensive stance against India at different forums and how India has been responding.
Turkey has been supporting Pakistan in general against India and in particular over the Kashmir issue. India abrogated Article 370 of its constitution, which gave Jammu and Kashmir special status not enjoyed by other Indian states, in August 2019. Since the abrogation of this article, Turkey has been raising the Kashmir issue at different forums.
Turkey first raised the issue of Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2019. When Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Pakistan in February 2020, he again spoke about Kashmir. Turkey is also one of the few countries (along with Malaysia and China) that supports Pakistan at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), allowing Pakistan to escape being placed on FATF blacklist for terror funding.
Turkey’s support to Pakistan over Kashmir is in part an attempt to counter Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia and Turkey are rivals in the Muslim world. By backing Pakistan, Turkey hopes that Islamabad will side with Ankara and move away from Saudi Arabia. The fact that Saudi Arabia and the UAE have backed India’s position Kashmir is further used by Turkey to woo Pakistan.
India has given a series of well-calibrated responses to Turkey’s provocative narratives against India. When Erdogan raised the Kashmir issue at the UNGA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded by holding meetings with the president of Cyprus and prime ministers of Armenia and Greece on the sidelines of the UNGA. All of these states have various disputes with Turkey. Later, in October 2019, Modi cancelled his visit to Turkey. In the view of growing defense ties between Turkey and Pakistan, India cut its defense exports to Turkey and also reduced imports from Turkey. Recently when Erdogan again raised the issue of Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan, India responded by issuing a strong demarche to Turkey’s envoy to India, stating that Turkey should not interfere in India’s internal matters.

Ostracise the Turks openy. The "quiet" reaction by the MEA,typical of its cowardly,scaredy- cat behaviour shows why India is not taken seriously by the intl. community, despite the PM's outreach in recent times. India is looked upon as a servile nation, not another aggressive China, who dictates to the world, but when faced with a tinpot dictator like Erdogan with his megalomaniacal dreams of becoming another Ottoman sultan we keep " quiet"!

The naval contract should've been immediately cancelled, the IN exercising with the Greek armed forces, naval vessels visiting Greece,Cyprus and Syria too ( Erdo's enemy),to shove a carrot up his a..e! Turkish image of itself if one of high machismo. The ordinary Turk is a hardcore nationalist (in general) so those who are classified as nationalists are of an extreme variety, coming at it from the angles of ethnicity (Turkic) and religion. These two blend with the imperial past, which gives present day Turks a sense of entitlement that might surprise those have never encountered it. None of this is evident during ordinary social interactions, when they are the typical fun-loving Mediterranean types.

They regard the strength of the currency along those lines of virility and macho posturing. So, they don't want to be seen as being humbled by the dollar, especially since the US has become something of a punching bag over the recent decade. Relations, clearly, have tumbled to what seems a stable low. The trajectory of that is not very much unlike the US relationship with Pakistan - although on a day-to-day engagement level the two countries are miles apart and not comparable.

May I also add that India should coordinate with the UAE with which India now has a strategic relationship. The UAE is fighting against Turkish expansionism and its pet project of political Islam everywhere, from Libya to Somalia.

https://www.janes.com/article/95952/tur ... er-project

Turkish Aerospace and Havelsan have signed a co-operation agreement on Turkey's National Combat Aircraft (MMU) project, Turkey's Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) announced in a 2 May press release.

The co-operation on the MMU Turkish Fighter Experimental (TF-X) project covers embedded training, training and maintenance simulators, and engineering support with a virtual test environment, project-level software development and cyber security, the SSB said.

When the MMU development project is completed, Turkey will be among the countries with the infrastructure and technology to produce a fifth generation combat aircraft, after China, Russia, and the United States, SSB chairman Ismail Demir said.

They are touting their fighter as 5th gen aircraft ? The turks are good in UAV development some say at the expense of more pressing defense priorities because of the forceful push by Erdogan to benefit his Son-in-law whose company manufactures and partners in UAV development. They also developed their indigenous T-129 attack chopper which they co produced with AgustaWestland . But they haven't gotten much luck with aircraft and tanks. They haven't even developed any indigenous aircraft yet but will develop a fifth generation aircraft directly ? Their indigenous altay tank is also nowhere in site yet although it was originally supposed to be ready by 2018 and then again in 2019.

But the turks have grand ambitions. Indigenous tank followed by a unmanned tank, fifth gen aircraft, UCAVs. With a defence budget of just over $20 billion (for 2019), they try to punch above their weight. Definitely worth keeping an eye on them.

Its not the first time. I used to work in Turkey years ago at a time of hyperinflation. The govt simple removed 3 zeroes from their currency so the
Lira went from 1 US$ = 6000 Turkish Lira to $1 = 6 TL.

It could be the inefficient rookie turkish pilot. Erdogan purged all the experienced pilots after the failed coup which tried to topple him. Now the turks have real problem getting experienced pilots for their F-16s.

In the video, does it look like the Turkish f-16 activated its jammers ? If he did, then does that mean the the turkish F-16 ECM capabilities were useless against Greek mirages ?

#GreeceMistreatingRefugees – this became one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter in Pakistan yesterday.

With the Turkish lira 7.13 to the dollar, the famous state-funded AK Trolls, the “online army” of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have been awfully quiet on social media lately. Perhaps they have not been getting paid as Turkey’s economy continues to slump amidst deeply-rooted corruption and embarrassing and costly failed military adventures in Syria and Libya.

It now appears that a Pakistani Non-Governmental Organization with Turkish connections, has taken on the torch to take off where the AK Trolls failed. However, just like their Turkish counterparts, the Million Smiles NGO have been exposed spreading fake news in their anti-Greek campaign.

The hashtag first began with Million Smiles CEO and Co-Founder Zeshan Afzal, who has since restricted his Twitter account.

Warning Graphic !

This is the kind of state #Turkey is. #Turkish fascists/racists holding a seminar on how to #rape their victims.

Rape is a weapon #Turks use against #Kurds as ultimate form of domination. Turks have no remorse for tactics they employ.

Are the Kurds the Next Kingmakers in Turkey ?
Between 1994 and 2015, the Kurdish vote in Turkey rose from 4.1% to 13.1%. A greying Turkey is facing a baby boom in Kurdistan: the Kurdish fertility rate, at 3.41, is a demographic weapon against the Turkish fertility rate of 2.09. These numbers suggest that Kurds could be the kingmakers in Turkey’s presidential election in 2023.

The recipe for the spread of political Islam, as founded by ideologues like Hasan Banna and Sayyid Qutb, is well-known: win Muslim hearts and minds by establishing and spreading religious, welfare, and educational institutions and facilities. The object is to create a classless, populist network that will ultimately legitimize political Islam at the ballot box. You cannot defeat the enemy by guns and artillery, but you can do it with headcount.

Turkey was no exception to the principle of Islamist ascendency via demographics. For decades, Turkey’s secular, better-educated modern families (which Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would later call the ”white Turks”) sufficed with one or two children in the family while pious, less educated, lower- and middle-class Muslims Turks were the baby boomers. In November 2002, the “white Turks” had to face that they were no longer the majority in their country. The “black Turks” had come to power.

But now, 18 years later, the “black Turks” have become the new “white Turks.” Ignoring their leader’s campaigns imploring them to produce “at least three children in every Turkish family,” they are now facing the same demographic threat with which they once captured power: a greying Turkey versus a baby boom in Kurdistan.
On June 7, 2015, the Kurds, this time under the corporate umbrella of a new political party, the People’s Democracy Party (HDP), won 13.1% of the vote and 80 seats. The “Kurdish miracle” deprived the ruling AKP of its parliamentary majority for the first time since it came to power in 2002. Most recently, in municipal elections in 2019, the Kurdish vote cost AKP its crown jewel. Ekrem Imamoğlu, an opposition candidate, defeated AKP’s Binali Yıldırım by a margin of 800,000 votes.

As the Islamists lost Turkey’s biggest city for the first time in a quarter century, Erdoğan had cause had to lament his motto, “He who wins Istanbul wins Turkey.” Millions of Kurdish voters in Istanbul had become kingmakers.

There is more data to augment Erdogan’s concerns about the 2023 elections and beyond. In a May 2015 presentation, A. Banu Ergöçmen of Hacettepe University’s Institute of Population Studies in Ankara highlighted the Kurds’ demographic advantage over Turks. She found the total fertility rate in eastern and southeastern Kurdish-speaking Turkey was 3.41 versus an average of 2.09 in the non-eastern, Turkish-speaking areas.

In 2018, the number of healthy births in Turkey dropped by 3.6% to 1.248 million from 1.295 million in 2017. The total fertility rate fell to 1.99 from 2.07—a particularly worrying figure, as it is below the replacement rate of 2.1. According to official statistics, in 2018 the highest fertility rates in Turkey were in Urfa (4.13), Şırnak (3.6), Ağrı (3.26), and Mus (3.23). All four provinces are predominantly Kurdish. In contrast, the lowest fertility rates were in overwhelmingly Turkish provinces: Gümüshane (1.3), Kütahya, Zonguldak, and Edirne (1.43).
Erdoğan faces difficult choices. To win the presidential race in 2023, he will need his nationalist ally’s staunch support. That support will come only if he maintains his hawkish posture against the Kurds and Kurdish politics. And that will come at a cost: more and more Kurdish voters, increasingly urban and well-educated, do not see a future in Erdoğan’s Turkey.
