Why not let these fool's face the consequences of the choices they have made.

Inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) surged to an all-time high in the week that ended on September 1, climbing to 45.5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) on the back of a more than 200 per cent increase in the rates of tomatoes and onions, and higher fuel prices.
Prior to this, the highest year-on-year weekly inflation figure was 44.58pc, which was recorded in the preceding week

Flash floods: British MP demands cancellation of Pakistan's int'l debt
A British member of parliament on Friday urged the international community that Pakistan's foreign debt should be immediately cancelled amid record-breaking inflation and devastating floods in the country.
"Inflation in Pakistan is at an all-time high at 27%! Pakistan’s international debt should be immediately cancelled," British MP Claudia Webbe wrote on her official Twitter handle.
She said that Pakistan should instead be given reparations for the climate crisis the country is currently facing.

Re the IMF deal
Yawn - Govt bound to hike gas prices, fuel GST under IMF deal
Yawn - Govt bound to hike gas prices, fuel GST under IMF deal
The government has committed more utility price shocks under a straightjacket implementation plan with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) involving an over 53 per cent increase in gas rates, the revival of general sales tax on petroleum products and withdrawal of more subsidies.
The IMF released a detailed 112-page country report on Friday on the completion of the seventh and eighth reviews of the extended fund facility (EFF), under which Pakistan has also committed to ensure electronically filed tax and asset details of grade 17 to 22 officers and members of the cabinet and the parliament and make them available to “authorised entities” — not to the public — besides globally acceptable comprehensive review of the anti-corruption institutional framework, particularly the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).#so an international body will audit the work of bakistans NAB?? What about loss of H&D due to the violation of this sovereignty#
The authorities have also given an undertaking to privatise four state-owned entities (SOEs) — a bank, a development finance institution and two LNG-based power plants — this year, besides immediately setting up a central monitoring unit in the finance ministry to control the financial management of other SOEs to improve their performance. #Hain? Just a couple of days ago Muft FM had said that Bakistan had victoriously got target criteria waived off#
...
The government has given a commitment to the IMF to recover about Rs 786 bn #mashaallah a halal number# from gas consumers during the current year — about Rs 120 bn higher than 45pc increase in gas rates determined by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for June to generate an estimated revenue of Rs 666 bn.
...
The IMF report said the government had committed to priority measures, such as establishing an asset declaration system with a focus on high-level public officials, including federal cabinet members (end-March SB, reset to end-September), and publication of a comprehensive review of the anti-corruption institutional framework — NAB — by a task force with the participation of independent experts with international experience and civil society organisations (new end-January 2023 SB).
Under this target, to advance transparency, accountability, and integrity in the public sector, “we will issue regulations to establish an electronic asset declaration system that is comprehensive (i.e. covering assets beneficially owned or located abroad, including those of spouses, children and benamidars), centrally held with the Federal Board of Revenue, covering federal civil servants of Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 17 to 22, accessible to entities authorised by law (including banks for the limited purposes of conducting customer due diligence as required for the provision of banking services), and effectively verified”, it said. #Uniformed Jihadis AKA Faujis are of course exempt#
...
Yet, the fiscal risks to the programme were considerable, including from the government’s ability to raise the projected revenue from a number of novel taxes and staggered PDL implementation (with 90pc revenue generated in the last three quarters), the provincial commitment to deliver the historically high surpluses agreed, and the significant containment of current spending relative to GDP in a pre-election year.
In view of these risks, the government has committed to triggering contingency measures at the earliest signs of fiscal programme underperformance.
As soon as monthly data show signs of underperformance against programme revenue targets (for example, if data for an early month within a quarter suggest risks to quarterly performance), the government has committed to activating contingency measures as needed, including immediately increasing GST on fuel as a prelude to reaching the standard 17pc rate, further streamlining GST exemptions including on sugary drinks and other unwarranted exemptions, such as those benefiting exporters including those in financing facilities and energy prices.

Pakistan Forecasts Economic Growth to Halve Following Floods
Faseeh Mangi, September 5, 2022
Pakistan’s government slashed its economic growth projections by more than half compared to its previous estimate after flooding inundated a third of the country.
The floods have made previous projections irrelevant and economic growth is estimated at 2.3% now, according to initial calculations by the Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives. The government had set a target of 5% growth in June.
Pakistan’s economy was passing through multiple economic challenges and “the devastation to the floods have further intensified the crisis,” said the note.
The South Asian nation is facing a climate crisis even as it resumed a $6.5 billion loan program with the International Monetary Fund easing fears of a default. Millions of acres of agricultural land were flooded after the highest rainfall in decades.

Faseeh Mangi and Ismail Dilawar, September 4, 2022
Skyrocketing prices of tomatoes, potatoes and onions are putting food out of reach in flood-ravaged Pakistan and raising the specter of inflation hitting 30%, which may spur more monetary tightening.
The South Asian nation already reeling from dwindling currency reserves and the fastest inflation in almost five decades faces a food shortage after torrential rains submerged a third of the country and destroyed crops. Eight more districts were added at the weekend to the country’s calamity list of 80 areas hit by floods.

Pak has long survived because of the "too big to fail" syndrome, nuisance value wrt India, and eagerness to do all kinds dirty jobs for the west for some $$$, like the recent clandestine supply of arms and munitions to Ukra-een upon UKs bidding. For the last one, they can forget any gas pipes or oil favours from Russia.
But the coming dark and dreary months for the west, weak global demand, high energy prices, floods and droughts later sending food prices sky high, Chinese investments drying up = perfect storm for Pak.
We just need to keep hand off and watch them crumble.

Re: Pakistani Economic Stress Watch
Qatar says emphatic no
The news is out. As per Business Recorder exclusive, there is nothing concrete coming from Qatar. The vibes coming from Qatar are similar. Now it’s out in the public. The government was initially looking at getting deposits from Qatar. Got a plain no on it. The next in line are investments. Government is attempting to put everything under the sun for sale. But only doable investments in the next 3-6 months, where some initial work is being done, are selling of two RLNG power plants and Energas RLNG terminal where Qatar Energy is the single largest shareholder.
Pakistan has two kind of risks – economic and political. Qataris want deals which are profitable for them. Wherever, there is involvement of government, political uncertainty comes into play. To cover that risk, they want some informal endorsement from the establishment, as they think, that only consistent power in Pakistan is the establishment.

Baby starves to death after crying all night for food
KHAIRPUR: The body of one-year-old Aasia Mumtaz rested on a charpoy, roughly four times her size, at a relief camp located in Kot Diji, Khairpur district. She starved to death.
People lost their cool when they saw their children crying for help and decided not to bury Aasia until the authorities concerned come to see them and solve their issues. The issues were simple: they needed something to eat and drink.
“My daughter cried all night; we didn’t have anything to give her and she passed away,” Bibi wailed before she fell conscious again. “Neither we got water nor milk,” Aasia’ father, a labourer, said, adding he couldn’t even get a mosquito net and a tent for his family of six.
Another man, holding his son in his arms, said he didn’t have food, water or milk since yesterday, adding: “Our children are dying thirsty.”
He along with several others said that they were given only one mosquito net for one family, adding neither the elected representatives nor the local authorities provided them with any help.

India is estimated to grow at 7% with a population growth of 1% (or a bit less). So, 6% increase in per capita income, which means it doubles in
12 years. Inshallah we will soon add a Pakistan to our economy each year (Pak economy 290 B, India 3000b and growing faster than Pak).

And of course, just like Western agencies and media take China's numbers at face value though they know that it is all very dubious, they do the same for Pakistan as the old soft corner for Pakistan from the cold war era people who are still in positions of power in the West remains.
I think India is already adding a whole Pakistan each year. Keep in mind that 7% is real growth, whereas I think nominal growth is considered for GDP calculations and it is even higher.

After record floods, now Pakistan has to worry about economy
The rain has destroyed vast hectares of crops, including cotton, a key source of employment and forex for the nation.
Abid Hussain, 7 Sep 2022
Islamabad, Pakistan – Tanveer Aziz Kingrani was planning to spend August preparing for his term examinations at the University of Sindh. Instead, the 23-year-old aspiring physicist has been camping out in a tent with 18 family members for the past week after his village was completely submerged in floods.
A resident of Haji Manik Khan village, 20km (12 miles) from Dadu city in Pakistan’s southern province of Sindh, Kingrani and his family are among the 33 million people who have been forced to leave their houses due to the unprecedented rains and floods that hit the region last month.
But it was not just the homelessness that was on Kingrani’s mind.
“Our crops are completely destroyed. We have nothing left for ourselves, or for the market. We have suffered a loss of at least 1.8 million Pakistani rupees [$8,000],” he tells Al Jazeera over the phone.
On the 12 hectares (30 acres) of farmland that Kingrani’s father owns, he sows rice, cotton, and wheat during the winter. But the rains have not only destroyed his standing crops of rice and cotton, the Kingranis are now worried about their wheat crop as well.
“There’s so much water that there is no chance of it receding or draining before the next three months, and that means we will miss out on the timeframe to sow the wheat crop,” says Aziz Kingrani, Tanveer’s father.
“I have no other source of income besides my land and my pension,” says Aziz, a retired professor. “I have no idea how I will feed 18 people with my meagre pension. I may just have to recall my son from his college to help me out.”
