There were some on some social networking sites who'd respectfully, nay reverentially, refer to ndtv as rrrNDTV. The minker never quite caught on though. Those peaceful souls can now know vindication....

Excellent descripiton. Many Thanx. Am going to ensure that this sticks in my circles.

That aside, does anyone remember the article on how NDTV, inspite of being a below-average to bad performing company over the years, seems to continue to attract investors? Guess, now we know what was happening...

Kanimozhi, 4 others get bail in 2G case
"I grant bail to five persons. The conditions would be same as imposed by the Supreme Court," Justice V K Shali said.

Besides Kanimozhi, others who were granted bail are Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, Bollywood filmmaker Karim Morani and Kusegaon Fruits and vegetables Pvt Ltd directors Rajiv Aggarwal and Asif Balwa.

The court, however, reserved its order on the bail plea of sixth accused and former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura, saying it will pronounce its judgement later as his plea has been opposed by the CBI.

"You (Behura) file your written submissions to the contentions of the CBI," Justice Shali told Behura's counsel, senior advocate Aman Lekhi.

.........
.........

Kanimozhi and five others had moved the high court on November 23 for advancing the hearing of their bail pleas, shortly after the Supreme Court had granted bail to five corporate executives -- Unitech Limited MD Sanjay Chandra, Swan Telecom director Vinod Goenka and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group executives Gautam Doshi, Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara.

.......
........

Former telecom minister A Raja, who is the main accused in the scam, has so far not approached any court for bail.

I hope he sees the vested interests for what they are. Even being born in Dravidabhumi and key member of the so-called rationalist, atheist and anti-casteist DMK party he will have to learn that blood is thicker than water.

Tremendous reception for Kanimozhi at Chennai airport
Hilarious and painful too at the same time that it has all come down this low. Kani, her father, her two mothers and step brothers etc. enjoyed the entire tamasha. Karunanidhi is about to use her stay in Tihar as a ruse to get her a higher position within the party, thus sealing the control of his family over DMK. That would also pacify his second wife who, according to reports, has been complaining that most benefits do not accrue to her family.
DMK MP Kanimozhi on Saturday arrived to a grand reception by the party men at Chennai airport, which was turned into a cultural festival venue with Kerala's chenda melam artists vying with Tamil folk performers of thappu melam, parai melam and naiyandi melam.

The percussion instruments kept up a rousing beat right through, encouraging some party men to break into dance.

Posters and vinyl boards bearing Ms. Kanimozhi's portraits and catch phrases hailing her adorned the highway leading to the airport.

“Iyakkathin Thiyagamey” (one who sacrificed herself for the movement) said one poster. “Poongodialla Porkodi” (not a flowering creeper, but a battle flag) declared another board. “Ovvoru Kayamum Vetriyin Patikattukal” (every wound is a stepping stone for success) read a poster seeking to predict a bright career for her. “Yerumpukku Kooda Theemai Seyyatha Unakku Ithanai Thuyarangala”, one poster sought to convey how she, who would not hurt even an ant, had to undergo sufferings (in jail).

2G scam: CBI to chargesheet Loop, Essar this week
New Delhi: The telecom scam will claim new corporate casualties this week. Sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) confirm that a new chargesheet will accuse two big India Inc companies, Loop and Essar, of cheating and conspiracy.

Loop is owned by the Khaitan family; Essar belongs to the Ruias. CBI sources say that both the Khaitans and the Ruias are likely to be named in the chargesheet.

The CBI will find that Essar used Loop as a front to acquire more licences and spectrum than legally allowed in 2008, when A Raja was the telecom minister. Mr Raja is currently in jail and is being tried for charges that include criminal breach of trust by a public servant.

Along with Mr Raja, the executives of some of India's biggest telecoms - Swan, Unitech Wireless and Relianace ADAG - were arrested but have been granted bail in the last few weeks.

Reliance ADAG has also been accused of using Swan as a front. The Law Ministry has said that neither Essar nor Reliance ADAG used proxy firms to get around restrictions. But the Attorney General of India, GE Vahanvati, has reportedly differed and his opinion forms the basis of the CBI's case against both the companies.

The telecom scam is being tried by Judge OP Saini in Delhi. The CBI's investigation is being monitored by the Supreme Court.

Finally the special court in Delhi allowed Swamy as a witness. It is not going to be good for PC. However, it is really really surprising about SC not pronouncing the reserved judgement for more than a month. His goose will be cooked if that is out. A very clear and straight forward evidence is there against PC. He cannot and should not be allowed to escape.

How does that work, I thought as far IT goes it seither AO order, then DRP or CIT appeals then ITAT and only then goes to court. How can it be directly dismissed by court.

Any chance case was deliberately weakened , so future Govt. cannot bring a fresh strong case for the same issue??

We had days and days of discussion on Yeddy involvement, how many discussion will we have on SMK and Central Govt clearences? Why no investigation of Illelagal mining which happenned in AP parts(kurnul district) which are contiguous with Bellary district in Karnataka??

Thats the INC wants to censor internet, Media, Cinema, Education institutions, Beauracracy have been brought in line through carrot and stick approach. It is difficult to target each user on the internet, and would be happy to ignore them when internet usage was so small that it did not have a political impact. Now, the vast army of IB(an org where 67% is concentrated on Political developments) has probably stated the internet users are influential and need to be crubbed if Dynastic rule needs to continue.

Building one’s way to the top

On 2 August 2008 a dapper man looking the polar opposite of Silvio Berlusconi was appointed director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, the agency which is so proficient in catching scapegoats while enabling the truly powerful to escape the consequences of their actions. The lucky find was Ashwani Kumar, then Director-General of Police in Himachal Pradesh, who in his progression to the top shunted aside M.L. Sharma, his senior by a year within the IPS. Sharma had, till the final hour before the farewell dinner for outgoing chief Vijay Shankar, been told that he was to get the job. That Kumar had little experience in the sort of investigation hat the CBI is legally presumed to carry out, while Sharma was immensely proficient in such tasks, counted for as little in the decision as the embarrassment of the Prime Minister's Office, which had told him weeks before that he would be the successor to Vijay Shankar.

The media in India being house-trained to perfection, none bothered — or dared — to informally meet up with Kumar's colleagues in Himachal, who were directly aware of the officer's political clout. According to them, Kumar was a special favourite of the ruling branch of the Nehru family (that segment comprising Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka and Robert). Indeed (if they are to be believed), Kumar had spent nearly two years on a very special task, one that must certainly have been related to the law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh, although this link is opaque to all except individuals of the evolved calibre of Digvijay Singh and other frank worshippers of India's Ruling Family. This super-important job was — again if Kumar's former colleagues are correct — the supervision of the construction of Priyanka Vadra's mansion in a forest area of Himachal Pradesh (which location, fortunately for the lady, escaped the attention of Jairam Ramesh and the numerous NGOs cosseted by The Family).

The ensuring of clean toilets and airy bedrooms cannot have been the only service rendered by Ashwani Kumar to the Maino branch of the Nehrus, for it by itself cannot explain the noiseless intervention by an official even closer to the Maino-Nehrus than Kumar — at literally the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute — to get the PMO and the Cabinet Secretariat to switch from Sharma to Kumar for the Director CBI post. Of course, the former was promptly given a sinecure, that of a five-year term in the Central Information Commission, presumably to reflect on the need to oblige the powerful in more active ways than he had done thus far.

Although Kumar — after a convenient extension in service — had finally to make way for Amar Pratap Singh on 30 November 2010, there is scant doubt that he will soon occupy a gubernatorial mansion, if not take over as National Security Advisor, both jobs where his experience in house construction will come in handy. Ironically, one of his first statements on being gifted the CBI assignment was to promise to protect the CBI against "illegal political interference". Wisely, he was silent on exactly what interference is considered to be "legal".

Given the way that its key officials are selected, is it any wonder that the CBI is less an agency to prosecute graft than it is a "Schuetz Staffeln", a protective force for the well-connected? Its gyrations before the Supreme Court over the matter of the involvement of the Union Home Minister (then the Finance Minister) in the gifting of 2G spectrum to a few players is evidence — if such be needed — of the organisation's subversion from within, to the promotion of private interest at the detriment of public interest.

But why belabour Ashwani Kumar? He is hardly alone. Months ago, the Manmohan Singh government cleared a proposal for grafting optical payloads onto a Boeing aircraft. This venerable workhorse had been purchased in advance by the foreign supplier of the optical payloads, so sure was this entity on landing the contract. This despite the National Security Advisor of the US giving his Indian counterpart (then the legendary M.K. Narayanan) murky details of the way in which Indian officials were being persuaded to give the contract to the foreign supplier. Both R.D. Pradhan as well as the present Cabinet Secretary had turned down the proposal to award the contract, convinced as they were of irregularities. Interestingly, while Secretary Seth found the contract untenable, Cabinet Secretary Seth has had a change of mind, and approved the same proposal that he had earlier rejected.

The reasons for such a change of heart may remain obscure, for the reason that crucial minutes relating to the deal have been "lost", with no one getting punished for such a lapse.

Another individual who eagerly gave the green light to a controversial proposal is the present Central Vigilance Commissioner, Pradip Kumar, who as Defence Secretary had been responsible for clearing mega-deals that involve billions of dollars without the kind of benefit to indigenous technology that China, for example, insists on. Surprisingly, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj found nothing in Kumar's record as Defence Secretary to blow the whistle about, not even his participation in numerous procurement decisions of the Defence Ministry. Of course, a Kumar is hardly the same as a Thomas.

And so the caravan moves on! If only everyone — especially some of the judges of the Supreme Court — were as understanding as Pradip Kumar and Ajit Seth about the importance of house-building in Himachal and in the Aviation Research Centre buying out of secret funds equipment never tested to Indian specifications.

How Natwar managed to get ED off his back? By threatening to expose the most prominent son-in-law of India.

However, Hormese Tharakan's three-year period (2005-07) was benign compared to the term of his successor Ashok Chaturvedi. That his uncle was Cabinet Secretary (and in the selection panel) when he was appointed Secretary (R) on 1 February 2007, presumably helped ensure that his spotty service record got overlooked during the brief and farcical selection process. Despite M.K. Narayanan voicing his misgivings about the choice, the then Cabinet Secretary (who is among the many UP cadre officers in Delhi who are close to both the BJP as well as the Congress party) ensured the placement of his nephew in the coveted post of RAW chief. The expertise of the junior Chaturvedi was Nepal, more particularly the tourist hotspots in that delightful destination, knowledge that endeared him to many in the Indian establishment who visit Nepal often, and search for ways of making the trip memorable in many senses.

Once he became RAW chief, one of Chaturvedi's tasks was to act as a courier for cash sent abroad to the relatives of a prominent Indian politician. He used to accompany bags of cash taken from RAW's secret funds, sometimes even in diplomatic bags, handing over the stash in European cities to delighted relatives of the neta. While making such transfers, he forbade any of his colleagues from accompanying him in the vehicle used by him to deliver the bags. Chaturvedi was the first RAW chief to personally take abroad bags of cash. While these were supposedly handed over to miscellaneous "sources", in fact the money went to the relatives of a senior politician residing in Delhi. Such devotion to duty won him immunity from disciplinary action, despite his many transgressions.

The obliging, paan-chewing Chaturvedi was a boon to several high-level politicians. A former Union minister in a key portfolio was being harassed by the ED over a deal involving Iraq under Saddam Hussein. And when the former minister made private threats (four years ago) in the presence of a young major that he would expose the involvement in the "oily" scam of the son-in-law of a prominent lady politician, this conversation was quickly conveyed to the governor of a small northern state, whose ADC the military officer was. This elderly worthy promptly did his patriotic duty by informing the lady politician's political factotums about the danger of exposure of the son-in-law's dealings. Swift action followed, the upshot being that the former minister was freed from the attention of government agencies that were looking into his business dealings, followed by his grateful silence on the role of the son-in-law. Previously, the minister had privately alleged that the athletic lad had been the most richly compensated individual in the international scam for which the former minister had lost his job. A fair exchange, which was soon followed by Ashok Chaturvedi employing the ADC-cum-snitch in RAW, where he is enjoying a comfortable career, with perks such as immunity for owning assets in Bihar far greater than his recorded income. Truly, Chaturvedi was one of the many officers who understood democracy to mean not the welfare of all the people, but of the people close to those in power. Small wonder that he had a charmed career.

Chidu has used up his nine lives: It’s time for him to go - Firstpost
Political tempests may rage; his own election may be mired in controversy; scandals may erupt over his unusual interest in the 2G case; Chidambaram may even be (inferentially) accused of bugging the office of his own Cabinet colleague and senior minister; the dossier of Pakistan-based ‘terrrorists’ prepared by his ministry may contain a few names of those who are holed up in Hyderabad or Mumbai (thereby profoundly embarrassing the Indian government and weakening its case against Pakistan)….

Of course, after the issue became public, Chidambaram and his ministry officials are desperate to cover their tracks. The home ministry letter invoking Chidambaram’s approval “had a drafting error” they say.

Chidambaram himself pleads loss of memory about whether Gupta was his client in the 1990s. In response to questions from CNN-IBN to Chidambaram, the ministry wrote back to say:
What happened to Rajdeep Sardesai, is he getting enlightenment (and/or) foreseeing the future of post-Lokpal scenario and filling the vacuum. Whatever the reason, these days Firstpost.com is going after establishment in unearthing its misbehavior, and I'm loving it.

First, the news report says northern and not North-Eastern. I think if someone who can write such a detailed article, he can differentiate between North and North-East. Small northern state can well be HP.

Another - The newspaper report is dated 11th December, 2011. And as per the report, the conversation/threat happened 04 years ago i.e. around December 2007. JJ Singh became Governor in late Jan 2008 (as per the site you quoted). Also, the same article says that the "ADC-cum-snitch" is serving a career in RAW.

So, can you please tell me, how in your infinite wisdom, you pulled out the name of a serving ADC to the Governor of AP as the "accused" officer? Do you realize that you're sulling someone's name by your nover-enthusiastic and idiotic piece of investigative journalism?

There is no need of frothing at the mouth and being rude, i used open source intel to find the culprit who stole people's money. I guess you haven't learnt to politely put forward your view.

I guess sunday guardian author was pointing towards this.
Sunith Francis Rodrigues http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunith_Francis_Rodrigues
Gen. (Retd.) Sunith Francis Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, formerly Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army. Born on 19 September 1933 in Bombay. Over the years as Governor, in Punjab
http://punjabassembly.nic.in/Members/governor.htm
Major Nirvikar Singh
ADC (M) to Governor Chandigarh.
FIR: Nirvikar Singh has assets 216 times more than income
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/fir-n ... or/648444/
In 15 years, the RAW officer earned Rs 40.85 lakh, but made purchases over Rs 9 crore in two years

From a penthouse to one kanal plot; a plush bungalow to flats in posh localities of Gurgaon and Delhi; Nirvikar Singh, the tainted Aide-de-Camp (ADC) of former Punjab Governor-cum-Chandigarh Administrator General (retd.) S F Rodrigues, has amassed a lot of wealth in his and his family's name in a span of just two years. These two years were the last of his tenure as ADC in Chandigarh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in the FIR registered against Nirvikar, his mother, Kiran Singh, and brother, Jagrut Singh, has estimated the officer’s assets to be 216 times disproportionate to his known sources of income. According to sources, the Central agency has also sealed Nirvikar’s 12 lockers, which it thinks could provide more information about the latter's unknown assets.

The FIR registered by CBI (a copy of which is with Newsline) mentions details of some of the properties owned by Nirvikar, his mother and brother. It also states that Nirvikar had purchased these properties in his and his family's name.

The FIR reads: “An information has been received that Major Nirvikar Singh (IC 59282 F) s/o Late Ashok Singh, a Commissioned Officer of the Indian Army, presently on deputation to Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi, has amassed huge assets in his own name and in the name of his family members, which are disproportionate to his known sources of income.”

In the FIR, the CBI has mentioned Nirvikar's total gross salary (from 1995-2010) as Rs 40.85 lakh; his mother, Kiran Singh's salary (from 1994-2010) to be Rs 1.37 crore; and his brother, Jagrut Singh's salary (from 2000-2010) as Rs 1.15 crore. However, the three have owned assets worth over Rs 9.32 crore in a span of two years.

The FIR further reads: “The suspect (Nirvikar Singh) is an Army officer, which entitles him to canteen facilities, free ration, etc. Further, he is still a bachelor. Hence, for the purpose of calculation, the expenditure for the check period has been taken as nil. The facts disclose prima facie the commission of offence punishable under Section 109 of IPC (abetment) and 13 (2) read with 13 (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Major Nirvikar Singh, his mother, Kiran Singh, and brother, Jagrut Singh. A regular case is, therefore, registered.”

Sources have also expressed the possibility that the total value of assets amassed by Nirvikar could be much more.

“M/s Emrald Estates Pvt Ltd is a registered company having its office at 1513, Bhism Pitamah Marg, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi. It has Kiran Singh, Jagrut Singh and Raj K Gupta, a Chandigarh resident, as directors. The company has authorised share capital of five lakh equity shares of Rs 10 each and its issued share capital is 10,000 equity shares of Rs 10 each. Jagrut Singh is holding 9,900 shares and Raj Kumar Gupta is holding 100 shares. M/s Emrald Estates Pvt Ltd is a company controlled and managed by the family members of the suspect officer (Nirvikar Singh),” the FIR states.

While the CBI had scrutinised Nirvikar’s activities since 2005 onwards (mentioned as check period in the FIR), most of the properties unearthed by CBI were purchased in the years 2007-2009.

“The booking value of the properties owned by Nirvikar and his family is much less than their actual worth. It is a known fact that the market price of these properties listed at a few lakhs could in reality be a few crores. It can't be ruled out that he must have had some benami properties as well, which can only be known once we interrogate him at length,” said an officer investigating the case.

^ Bingo.
@Upendra
^^^But still naming many officers on a public forum could have been avoided. You could have kept the names you considered as possible candidates to yourself, until you homed on to the result with some amount of certainty.

You're right he should have instead have made up criminal accusations against you. Might have been more apt.

no criminal accusations were made but an attempt to find the culprits. your thought policing wont prevent others from digging for the truth. your absolute silence on people exposed of having been involved in corruption speaks volumes of your real agenda.
