New Delhi: A blast rocked the ghaat of the Ganges in Varanasi on Tuesday as the evening aarti was going to commence at the Sheetla ghaat, injuring over 15 onlookers.

The injured, which may include foreigners, have been rushed to the nearby hospital. Police and local administration officers have swung into action to take control of the situation.

The aarti of River Ganges is attended by hundreds of devout. The revered temple Lord Shiva, Mahakaaleshwar, is near the ghaat.

Tuesday is when special aarti, called 'maha-aarti takes place.

The blast led to a stampede and a wall collapsed which added to the confusion.

The stampede led to further injuries which may rise drastically. The area has been cordoned-off.

About time! I was expecting this after the nuclear deal with France and the upcoming mega deal with the Russians. We should expect much more this December because
1. Unkil is more worried about Unemployment, North Korea and Iran.
2. China has its eyes focussed on NK,SK and Japan
3. Saudis are more worried about Iran.

Pakis must be feeling like a neglected whore and is upto its usual tantrums to grab attention. Beware! This is just testing waters. There will be more attacks to attract more baksheesh

India and Pakistan are both victims of terrorism so India should hand over Kashmir to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

after all they are supposedly associated with muslim rulers of india!
The wikileaks account of CS must have altered some dynamics in ISI and paki military. This is a precursor to something big.

Big? Isn't this big enough for you? Sorry but you sound like the handlers of the 26/11 terrorists saying "This is only the trailer.."

We only need government to dismiss this as small..

Well I guess you are right. This is too small.

An outrage that seems to be a well calculated move whereby we observed a staged "event" involving Kayani and then this! Hmm..some kind of equal equal and a warning shot for spineless fellows to concede and surrender before another 26/11 is perpetrated on innocent citizens of India.

PS: How long before piggy raja will come up with yet another conspiracy theory and See Bee Eye will be set on a wild goose chase?

Well, first things first, :
(1) there is no proof as yet about direct involvement of the Pak gov, or any of its official arms. GOI, if willing, needs to establish this connection beyond all reasonable doubt.
(2) have we ruled out the possibility of supposed saffron terror modules being involved to embarass the state government and Muslims and Congress and secular India?
(3) even if there was blast and we find non-saffron elements in it - it could be Maoists trying to disrupt communal harmony and divert attention from themselves
(4) it could be something about misappropriation of temple funds and an internal matter of the majority community at Varanasi

If all of the above is dicounted : then
(5) if the perpetrators are found to be Muslims then they must be non-Indian in origin.
(6) if it ultimately leads to the door of Pak, then it must be with the non-state actors or "rogue" elements of the army and the ISI and not the civilian gov which can under no circumstances be weakened by any action by India
(7) blasts happen, the people of Varanasi must take a lesson from Mumbaikars and Delhites and move on and forgive. For the majority community's chief and only obligation is to always forgive, tolerate anything and everything thrown at them, and never ever retaliate. They must only provide the bulk of the material resources in the form of taxes (because they are the majority in numbers) to keep a superbly efficient security machinery in place which can penetrate, tackle, and finish off any violent outfit as long as they are not from certain communities and which when necessary can be used against the majority community to preserve "India".

Time to count who pays the money to maintain all this pious state machinery?

Oh please B-ji, you are way too inefficient with all those steps, our Pujiniya PM has already asked people to stay calm and not get worked up.

Even that is quite unnecessary and thus inefficient. Do sheep do any more than bleating anyway.

Protest rallies should come out in major cities, where the press cannot play ignorant [oh it happened in some ditant village and we could not send our reporter]. "we pay the taxes/who pays for the blasts?" type of slogans perhaps.

Behalf of Soniajji (next after Papparajji, Materajji) and our Home minister, P Chindbaram, I concluded that this is an handy work of Saffron and RSS people. I will request you to maintain peace and tranquility even 100 people are died (because you will never unite and you do not have vote bank power). Behave of GOI, i will announce exgratia of 1/- per each dead family.

GOD SAVE THIS COUNTRY and I am really feeling helpless.

@AmritHallan NDTV instruction to anchor not to mention IM e-mail went on air. Someone left a wire unplugged somewhere!

And now I shall leave @BDUTT to defend the instruction (heard on air) to NDTV anchor NOT to mention IM e-mail on Varanasi bombing. :)

This has billa-ranga written all over it.

IM is quick to claim responsibility. What a relief!!! Now gobernment can't say that saffron outfits did it. Or they still can, one never knows.

The media meanwhile twiddels its thumbs in its musharraf, I wonder how long is it before they start stories like
At least the spirit of Varanasi is intact

Tomorrow, when people simply have to risk it all to go about their daily chores, the media will claim
More proof that the life is limping back to normal

... and so on.

But these guys will NOT ask the difficult question of the government, here they are in cahoots with GoI.
Namely, what is GoI doing about stopping the continuing terrorism from Pakistan.

AFAIK, IM doesn't have a declared agenda worth anything. This is quite simply Pakistan ISI wanting to start a communal incident. Now onwards they will stop one step short of Pakistan being directly responsible - as in 26/11, to the IM claiming responsibility.

Damn it, we need an Indira Gandhi.

Extremely sad that an innocent 2 yr old had to pay for someone's crimes.

Yes both India and Pakistan are victims of terrorism onlee.

How about one big diwali patakha going off under Kiyanahi's musharraf hain?

That'll teach them a thing or two.

We will have "soundbytes" from the PM to Home Sec saying that they don't expect Pak to do anything realistic ( like G.K.Pillai interview to NYT yesterday) but are hoping Pak will do something about the common evil.. :-?

Anyways, the small consolation ( if any) seems to be the low intensity explosive used, which could either mean that the big stuff is still not usable due to severe security agency pressure on the India based ISI minions or could mean that Pak has knowingly decided to keep the scale low to avoid more international censure like after 26/11 ( Indian reaction is irrelevant since even a JDAM will not provoke the Chankian and far-sighted GoI)

Even as the forensics team was pressed into service to probe the Varanasi blasts, investigators have found two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the blast site.

The first IED was recovered from a milk container which triggered off the explosion while the other was found at a dust bin at the blast site.

Apparently, one more was recovered before it went off!!!

The finding of the IED and the material around the site give the indication that it was not a rookie job. The bomb was assembled by a professional and was aimed more at creating panic and also sending out a message, sources added.

Ah, well...the usual Babri+ NaMo combo.

Guess that is good enough reason for the bombing( as per JNU elite+ BarkhaD + assorted secularists like Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Jaffery ji) , the evil saffronite Hindus brought it upon themselves..
