Gilani not guilty of contempt: Aitzaz Ahsan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s embattled prime minister is not guilty of contempt of court but should bow to pressure and ask Switzerland to reopen graft cases against the president, his lawyer said Wednesday.

The comments from Aitzaz Ahsan are the clearest indication yet that Yousaf Raza Gilani may step back from the brink of further confrontation with the judiciary when he is summoned before the Supreme Court on Thursday.
“Asif Ali Zardari has complete immunity as president,” Ahsan told reporters.

“There is no harm in writing a letter to the Swiss authorities. He enjoys immunity in Pakistan and abroad as long as he is president,” he added.
Last year, a Swiss prosecutor said that it would be “impossible” to reopen a case against Zardari, as he has immunity.

Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha kept his date with Zain Zia, daughter of former Pakistan President General Mohammad Ziaul Haq, with whom he had an emotional meeting here on Wednesday.

Taking time out from the visit of Indian parliamentarians to Pakistan, Sinha accompanied with his BJP colleagues Yashwant Sinha and Syed Shahnawaz Hussain and NCP leader Supriya Sule went to General Zia's residence to meet his daughter, who regards him as an elder brother.

You can put a rich American upbringing into a Paki.

You can put a fancy elite Connecticut boarding school education into a Paki (annual cost $45K).

You can put a University of Texas degree into a Paki.

But you absolutely cannot take the Paki out of a Paki.

AP story on MSNBC.

There is a apt saying in Tamil for this.

"Naaya kulippatti nadu veetula vechhalum, vala kozhachindu pee thinga pogumam" meaning, "Even if you bathe a dog and keep it in the middle of the house, it will shake its tail and go to eat sh.it"

I did a round up a year back, it may be still useful.
A reshuffle of those links in chronological order may even bring out the evolution of thought on pak.

The Ijaz video has made it to the mainstream media
Music video featuring memo raker Ijaz creates internet buzz
Ijaz's appearance in the music video also generated jokes in the virtual world.

Cafe Pyala, a leading Pakistani blog, referred to the video and said in a post: "Some new evidence has come to light related to 'Memogate' that we think should be placed in front of the commission investigating whether any crime was committed..."
Meanwhile Ijaz gets Pakistani visa; to travel on Jan 24.

JuD promises Imran Khan treat at Difa-e-Pakistan convention
MULTAN: The Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) said on Wednesday that their January 29 Difa-e-Pakistan gathering would be attended by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hassan and Awami League chief Sheikh Rasheed among other religious and political party leaders. The JuD added that they had confirmed their presence for the rally.
JuD added that only an nuclear capable and armed Pakistan can survive in the future and that it should be defended at every cost.
Hafiz Saeed, President JuD, said “we will not let Pakistan slide into the hands of secular forces in Pakistan as they have no attachment or relation with Pakistan.”

Pakistan scandal's latest twist: naked wrestling
ISLAMABAD (AP) — A scandal over a secret memo to Washington that could bring down the Pakistani president took a strange turn Wednesday when a music video surfaced featuring the chief accuser acting as a commentator for a naked female wrestling bout.

Opponents of Mansoor Ijaz, an American of Pakistani origin, said the clip damaged his credibility ahead of his scheduled appearance at a Supreme Court commission in this conservative Muslim country. The Florida-born businessman has pledged to provide damning evidence that the Pakistani government sent the note seeking U.S. help preventing a military coup in the aftermath of the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011.

Others were simply amused at the latest twist in an affair that has transfixed the media and raised tensions between the government and the powerful military to dangerous levels. Dubbed "memogate" in the Pakistani media, one Twitter user suggested it should now be renamed "booty-gate."
Ijaz told The Associated Press he thought the video's emergence was part of an effort by Haqqani to discredit him ahead of his testimony but conceded he had no evidence of this. He confirmed that the video was not a hoax.
One clip features bikini-clad women wrestlers 'Double D' and 'Nasty Nancy,' who end up grappling on a mat in a sexually provocative fashion. The other is the same until the final 30 seconds, when the women remove each other's clothes.

Ijaz's scenes and dialogue feature in both versions.

"She's giving it to her good now! You've got some real tumbling going on here. Nancy's got that mean look," he says, as the two women wrestle in front of him. At one point, Ijaz's eyes widen and his mouth gapes as the video cuts to the women ripping each other's bikinis off.

Ijaz said he had not known he would appear in the version containing full nudity.
Haqqani's lawyer, Zahid Bokhari, said the "Stupidisco" video shows that Ijaz "can break all the norms of decency."

"I think a man of that stature, one who can go to that extent for fame, he can make up all kinds of false stories. I am really stunned by this," said Bokhari. He dismissed Ijaz's claim that the video was part of campaign to question his credibility, noting that it was made and put on the Internet years ago.

But, Rehman Malik says otherwise:
Hours after the media reported that businessman Mansoor Ijaz had been issued a visa to come to Pakistan to testify before a commission probing the memo scandal, interior minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday said he had not even applied for a visa.

"Ijaz has not yet applied for a visa.

However, Pakistani embassies have been directed to issue a visa to Ijaz immediately after he applies for it," Malik told reporters outside parliament on Wednesday evening.

Reporter Dies in Pakistan, and Taliban Warn Others
By DECLAN WALSH
Published: January 18, 2012
"ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility on Wednesday for the killing of a reporter for the Voice of America, a radio service financed by the United States government, and warned that others would be targets in the future.
A masked gunman strode into a mosque during evening prayers in Shabqadar, a small town in the tribal area of northwest Pakistan, on Tuesday evening and opened fire on the reporter, Mukarram Khan Aatif, as he was praying, his colleagues said.
Mr. Aatif was struck by at least three bullets in the chest and head, they said. He was taken to a hospital in Peshawar, 15 miles to the south, but doctors there pronounced him dead on arrival. The killer escaped on a motorbike driven by a second masked man.
Mukurram Khurasani, an aide to the Taliban commander in Mohmand, the tribal area near the attack, said his group was responsible for the killing. “All reporters of Voice of America are our targets and should resign; otherwise we will kill them,” he told a local reporter in a telephone interview.
The killing underscored Pakistan’s reputation as the world’s most dangerous beat for reporters, and it raised fresh questions about the future of American-financed journalism in the region.
“Everyone is worried for himself and his family, and in particular those working for the American media,” said Iqbal Khattak, a local reporter and representative of the Paris-based advocacy organization Reporters Without Borders, in Peshawar. “The Taliban have made it clear they will target those they deem to be ‘C.I.A. agents.’ ”
Mr. Aatif worked for Deewa Radio, a Voice of America service that was set up in 2006 to broadcast in the Pashto language to the people of Pakistan’s seven tribal areas along the Afghan border. Deewa has an annual budget of $1 million and employs about 25 local reporters; it says it reaches about 10 percent of the tribal areas’ roughly four million people.
Western-backed radio services in the border area — others include the BBC’s Pashto service and Radio Mashaal, which is also financed by the United States — give their sponsor governments a positive reach into an area where C.I.A. drones fire missiles at militant hide-outs. But the sponsorship can also lead to dangerous complications......."
