IMO that read is correct. INC of 1991 and beyond is an entirely different animal than of 70s (MMS factor). But so is true of BJP/ Jan Sangh. NDA under Modi ji does not fall under this theory though. We are in an unpredictable zone and that is the worry for some (nationalists) and hope for others (like current INC).

To coin a phrase,"War is economic by other means",mirroring the popular saying that it is "politics" by other means..Japan went to war in WW2 because of US sanctions. The US/West and their eco forces, which are the other side of the same coin -military power, fear that thhir grip on the global economy will disappear with the emergence of BRICS. India,S.Africa and Brazil they fear little,as we have enough stool pigeons who will wipe their backsides for filthy lucre, succumb to flattery and have a deep sense of inferiority of the white man,but Russia and China are different propositions.

The Chinese believe that the Westerners are barbarians, that they are the "Middle Kingdom" between heaven and earth, overlords of the human race to whom all nations must kowtow. The Russians are fiercely nationalistic, have suffered horrendously in history and take sh*t from no one. They are capable of enduring huge privations and as was seen at Stalingrad, will fight to the last man, woman, child and animal. Russia defeated both Napoleon and Hitler and survived invasions from the East too. Hence the US/West's goalpost shifting of eco rules to screw both Russia and China. Unfortunately, this brings about the opposite result.A closer relationship both economic and military. at some point in the future, even India too will face Western eco chicanery and heat. It will then be at a decisive crossroad which will determine its destiny this century. The magnetism of the Sino-Rus military and eco relationship may be too strong to resist. Even as we ponder and deliberate upon events, the using of national currencies in bi-lteral trade and not the $,shows which way the wind is blowing.

Brazil is in trouble, more ways than one
Russia has her own problems
India is the only bright light
China is sliding downhill

South Africa, never was clear why they were added to this list, but SA is near non-existent

Time for India to take the bull by the horn and lead. Forget these other players. Create a group within India tasked just to accomplish this.

SA was added because they wanted a country from Africa to diversify the list.

But it should have been Nigeria, SA is going nowhere under current policies and is unlikely to ever become a world power.

SA is the right choice. They have a future, if not the current situation is not that bright. Nigeria may be better off today but the future is not bright for them. They just joined the coalition of Saudi Led Jihadis. So not far from now they will end up as another ISIS nation the work of which has already started by the faithfools in that country.

“Creation of BRICS really scared some countries”: Rousseff
Brazil’s suspended President Dilma Rousseff has said those betting on the BRICS to disintegrate are making an “unforgivable mistake”.

“The creation of BRICS was an event of unprecedented significance in world affairs. The emergence of BRICS and the G20 group was a peak from the standpoint of multilateral processes and of building a multipolar world,” Rousseff told Russian state daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta.

The BRICS nations account for about a quarter of global economic output. China and India are among the world’s fastest growing large economies.

“I should say that the creation of BRICS really scared some countries, and we know that. Thinking that this quintet will fall apart or disappear would be tantamount to making a strategic and unforgivable geopolitical mistake,” she added.

The Brazilian Senate voted to impeach President Dilma Rousseff in May.

However, a wave of scandals buffeting Brazil’s interim government is weakening the resolve of some senators to oust suspended Rousseff, offering the leftist leader hope of surviving an impeachment trial in the upper house.

Leaked recordings, of politicians and key allies of interim President Michel Temer, discussing Brazil’s sprawling kickback scandal has dented the credibility of the new administration.

Temer’s Transparency Minister Fabiano Silveira and Planning Minister Romero Juca were caught conspiring against the Petrobras corruption probe in leaked recordings which were broadcast by national media. Both Ministers stepped down subsequently.

Brazilian daily O Estado de S Paulo also reported that Temer’s seven-year-old son, Michelzinho, is the registered owner of properties worth $550,000. The report also said Temer’s total assets nearly doubled between 2006 and 2014.

Meanwhile, Rousseff said on Thursday that each of the BRICS states are currently experiencing economic problems stemming from the West-induced crisis.

A new World Bank report, Global Economic Prospects: Divergences and Risks, says emerging economies need to look to policy reform in order to keep pace with growing global challenges.

“But we will overcome that crisis to get even stronger than we were in the past. Our alliance rests upon the idea of strategic nature of these relations. It is an inter-continental union,” Rousseff said.

The BRICS Bank announced its first set of investments in April this year. The $100 billion NDB will compete with institutions where the US has considerably more influence—organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

According to surveys by Brazilian media, up to a dozen of the 55 senators who voted last month to put Rousseff on trial are now undecided.

If just a couple of those change sides, the Temer camp would lose the 54 votes it needs – two-thirds of the 81-seat Senate – to convict Rousseff. She would then be able to serve out her term until 2018.

Analyst Sam Cowie says many view Temer’s government as illegitimate.

“What legitimacy does Temer’s unelected government have to impose cuts that will seriously affect tens of millions of mainly poor and lower income Brazilians?” Cowie asks.

He is a crazy guy. Ignore is hyperbole and sift the nuggets from the chaff.

Brazil's Dilma Rousseff was the first target. Brazil was vulnerable to oil price downturn.

I think US next target via "Corruption Astra" is South Africa's Jacob Zuma.*

NPR is broadcasting daily reports of corruption from South Africa.
What is interesting is the opposition leader, mayor of Johannesburg is a former Catholic converted to Evangelical Xianty!
So that's the new fault line being prepared by all those US missionaries across the globe. No wonder John Kerry protests US Conversion NGOS being delisted by Indian govt.

*Third target was really Zero target that backfired.

Putin in Ukraine. He took over Crimea.

BRICS nations should trade more in each other’s currency, says India
India has called for greater intra-BRICS trade in each other’s currency for protection from fluctuations causing losses, even as the five major emerging economies agreed to set up a joint ‘single window clearance mechanism’ for ease of doing business and cooperate in matters including e-commerce and Intellectual Property Rights.

Speaking on Thursday at the launch of the first BRICS Trade Fair, India’s Vice President M. Hamid Ansari said: “We (BRICS countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) need to increase our trade in each other’s currency to further pluralise trading currencies and lessen the use of a single dominant currency.”

“Transition to trade in national currencies will reduce the risk volatility and protect us from adverse fluctuations, which often cause huge economic and trade losses,” he added.

Ansari said BRICS would need to push services trade liberalisation, including through measures for easier movement of people for commercial activity. “The proposal for a BRICS Visa on a long-term basis for genuine travellers is one such effort aimed at stimulating greater economic activity by enhanced mobility of our entrepreneurs,” he said.

BRICS account for 43 per cent of the world’s population, 15 per cent of global trade and 20 per cent of the world’s investment flows. However, intra-BRICS trade in 2014 was just $297 billion — less than five per cent of the $6.5 trillion worth trade that the five countries had with the world that year.

Besides creation of a business-friendly environment for investors and entrepreneurs, BRICS nations should support value-added trade to transform from raw material providers into key players in the global economy, Ansari said.

The BRICS trade ministers’ communiqué took note of volatility in the equity and currency markets, strains on the banking sector, depressed global demand as well as low commodity and oil prices. They agreed to enhance cooperation on preserving policy space to promote industrialisation.

They decided to address the impediments faced by small and medium firms, and agreed on a mechanism to resolve non-tariff measures. Besides, they decided to promote a better understanding of each other’s quality standards. A BRICS single window would help boost trade and investment through easier clearances, they said.

Indian commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman said BRICS nations can play a positive role in strengthening multilateral institutions including the IMF, United Nations and World Trade Organisation. She also stressed on the need for rolling back protectionist measures to boost global trade. Sitharaman said the BRICS Bank should come up with ideas to finance projects in BRICS nations and consider extending support to BIMSTEC nations as well.

Earlier, in a bilateral meeting, India and Brazil looked into a proposal to strengthen the India-MERCOSUR (a trading bloc and customs union of Latin American nations including Brazil) Preferential Trade Agreement by expanding the coverage of items from 450 to 2500. India also asked Brazil to host India-Latin American Conclaves in Brazil to boost trade and investment ties. In another bilateral meeting, China agreed to look into India’s demand for greater market access for rice and pharmaceuticals as well IT services in China.

BRICS should agree for free trade area: Chinese media
"Observers have focused their eyes on New Delhi and have one question in mind: How much courage will it take for the trade ministers from BRICS countries gathering there on Thursday for the summit meeting to promote greater cooperation?" an article in the state-run Global Times said.

"It seems China is willing to open up its domestic markets to the other four member countries, but they haven't yet made quite the same commitment," it said.

At Goa, India Will Try To Rally BRICS Against Terror, Pakistan: 10 Points
The gathering of leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) gives PM Narendra Modi an opportunity to highlight the threat from Pakistani terrorists, who, last month, attacked an army camp in Uri in Kashmir. 19 soldiers were killed. New Delhi's response included a strategy to diplomatically isolate Islamabad and surgical strikes across the Line of Control.

PM Modi, who arrived in Goa last night, said he was optimistic that the BRICS "will advance common agenda for peace, stability". He will hold two key meetings today. With Russian President Vladimir Putin his talks will include the signing of a number of agreements including on defence and the Kudankulam nuclear project. Later he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and top Indian diplomats will push for a consensus on a strongly worded "counterterrorism" statement and a declaration that will highlight "isolating countries that provide shelter to terror groups and help in arming these groups".
Sources say China is open to a strong statement however President Jinping is unlikely to have much interest in casting Beijing's alliance with Pakistan into doubt.

But what does concern China is how the terrorism within Pakistan threatens its plans to build a $46 billion trade corridor that runs through Pakistan to the Arabian Sea.

After the Uri attack, India quickly won expressions of support from the West and from Russia.

The Goa gathering of BRICS will also feature an outreach session to countries from the Bay of Bengal region that could emerge as an alternative focus of regional cooperation.

China has also yet to yield on blocking India's long-held ambition of joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group, a club of nuclear-trading nations, and experts say Delhi is unlikely to make much progress in Goa on managing a breakthrough.

Adding to the tension with Delhi, China has rebuffed India's calls for the United Nations to designate Masood Azhar, leader of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed group, as a terrorist. China recently extended a so-called "technical hold" on the designation by a further three months.

BRICS was formed in 2011 with the aim of using its growing economic and political influence to challenge Western hegemony. The nations, with a joint estimated GDP of $16 trillion, set up their own bank in parallel to the Washington-based International Monetary Fund and World Bank and hold summits rivalling the G7 forum.

Russia mum on Pak terror, India stung

While Russia itself has been the clear winner in terms of BRICS' focus on security-related issues, China continues to call the shots on financial issues, leading to questions about the utility of BRICS for India. "China uses BRICS to advance its economic and political interests, including dominating the two financial mechanisms that the grouping has set up. But what do es India get from Brics?" Chellaney said.

BRICS covers ground on terror, but outcome may have fallen short of Modi’s hope
The Goa Declaration, adopted at the end of the summit in Goa on Sunday, mentioned terrorism 24 times and was more elaborate than past declarations in addressing specific aspects of terrorism. But New Delhi’s effort to nail Pakistan and terror groups based in the neighbouring country with a mention of “cross-border terrorism” failed to secure a consensus.

Has BRICS been reduced to a talking shop?
- Brahma Chellaney

On paper, the five BRICS countries look like a powerful grouping. Together they represent more than a quarter of the earth’s landmass, over 42% of the global population, almost 25% of the world’s GDP, and nearly half of the global foreign exchange and gold reserves. In reality, though, BRICS is struggling to define a common identity and build institutionalised cooperation among its members. Their Goa summit underscored inherent challenges, including building effective unity.

Bilateral Buoyancy
- Goa was a predictable photo-op, the real deal was the trade and aid partnerships.
- C. Uday Bhaskar
If major summits are to be assessed by their tangible outcomes, it may be averred that at Goa, the texture and content of the bilaterals overwhelmed the more modest achievements of the BRICS summit.

NRao and Dipanker, Those articles are blow to Modi type articles.

Firstpost Karan Pradhan had an article to show the past four BRICS summits had general refs to terrorism.

Chellaney thinks he is a strategic thinker and wont know if it hits him on the head.
While EU is collapsing, BRICS with BIMISTEC and Merksur are redefining economic zones.
Those guys need to get rid of colored/jaundiced glasses and share the optimism.

Cdre. CUB as usual has the big picture.
