38 Indians detained in UK for visa breach in factory raids
IMO, not strictly true. Average is almost 20 per day. Just a busy day, they found 38 in 2 factories.

Manchester Mayoral Candidate Delivers Video Manifesto Entirely in Urdu
A British mayoral candidate has caused controversy after delivering a video manifesto on the BBC website completely in Urdu.
It remains unclear whether Mr Aslam is in fact unable to speak English or whether he simply refused to do so.
Mr Aslam was born in Faisalbad, Pakistan and moved to Manchester 17 years ago. He is the director of a property letting company, and says he wants to make the area “more developed and a modern region”

38 Indians detained in UK for visa breach in factory raids
LONDON: Britain's immigration officials have detained 38 Indians, including nine women, for overstaying their visas or working illegally after conducting raids in two clothing factories in the city of Leicester.
The UK Home Office Immigration Enforcement team raided MK Clothing Ltd and Fashion Times UK Ltd in the city in the East Midlands region of England last week and held 38 Indians and one Afghan man.
Of those detained, 31 had outstayed their visas, seven had entered the country illegally and one was working in breach of their visa conditions, Leicester Mercury reported.
The officials took 19 people into detention pending their removal from the UK while remaining 20 were ordered to report regularly to the Home Office while their cases are dealt with.
Not sure how is this a case of backlash? They were living/working illegally and were caught which in my opinion is the right thing to do. This is not a case of tightening or changing of immigration rules

What kind of factory hires illegals? Also need to see if they are Indians or the vermins across the border.

19 detained pending deportation would imply that they have found their passports while the rest who have been asked to report to the HO regularly did not have their documents and could be anybody. One of the major reasons why the first thing an illegal does is to destroy their passports so that they are not detained and deported immediately.

Also, a factory does not imply a huge enterprise. Could be a pretty small affair with just a couple of rooms and the reason they employ illegals is to underpay as well as save on benefits. The first one is owned by 2 Sikh/Punjabi gents while the second company is owned by a pissful.

Oh you won't belive. Everybody hires them. It is big business. They give work to outside contractors and whom these contractors hire everybody knows.

there are a lot of manipulated stories doing the rounds, often difficult to separate them from fact
this particular story raises eyebrows - it may be true, and we need to see if it is
but the probability of it being so seems low

once corroborated by multiple different sources its fine, when it comes from a site such as breitbart... needs to be viewed with caution

Britishers settled in India even now do not speak the language(s).
Urdu is not a foreign language, it is the future national language of Bartanistan. Goras have to learn it. Sooner the better.

These are the same countries whose ultra-secretive spy agencies are having shindig in NZ, in a remote five star resort with golf courses and all. I hope they are not cooking some sinister plans. But then they will be doing their job if they are really cooking those plans and not playing golf.

Europe could allow a "united Ireland" to join EU after Brexit
European leaders may be preparing to recognise a united Ireland, in a declaration that would pave the way for the north to swiftly rejoin the European Union. At their first Brexit summit on Saturday, the EU’s 27 leaders are expected to discuss a text stating that if Ireland unified, the north would automatically become part of the EU.

The inclusion of the text is a victory for the Irish government, which had pressed for the inclusion of a “GDR clause”, a reference to the integration of the former east German state into the European Community after the fall of the Berlin wall. The declaration is bound to raise fears that Brexit could trigger the unravelling of the UK, although there is no majority in Northern Ireland for unification.

EU diplomats are braced for a fierce reaction from the UK, given the angry tabloid headlines that followed speculation about the status of Gibraltar. After lobbying from Madrid, the EU agreed that the Spanish government would be able to exclude the Rock from any EU-UK trade agreement if it was not satisfied with the status of the territory.

Mallya had a reputation for beggaring his cos. by his lifestyle for decades. He was a stinking parasite upon the poor taxpayer, enjoying the lifestyle of an international playboy by his gargantuan loans obtained through devious means with the complicity of our politicos and pliable bankers allegedly on the take. But his lifestyle wasn't based upon merit. He was no Richard Branson but an arriviste on the international uber rich set who was found to have feet of clay. The decade of Cong-UPA rule under Snake-Oil Singh, has been the most corrupt and venal in Indian history. Scamster after scamster has looted the nation, plundering its wealth and flaunting these ill-gotten gains with impunity. The manner in which the Kingfisher staff have been treated would've seen Mallya face the hangman had this had happened in China. For such acts of "grand larceny",new punishments must be spelt out for such monumental offenders. The Mallyas, Subrata Roy's and co. The reality is these scamsters can leave India at will and enjoy the fleshpots of Blighty protected by the laws of HMG and other hideouts. We now have another name to add to the list, one "diamond" Mehta, now allegedly "sparkling" in the sun in St.KItts!

News flash:
Buckingham Palace emergency meeting called. Speculation about health of a royal, etc.

Queen's staff summoned to 'emergency' Buckingham Palace meeting

Hannah Furness, royal correspondent
4 MAY 2017 •
The Queen's most senior aides have summoned her entire household to an emergency meeting this morning at Buckingham Palace.

The Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal Household, and Sir Christopher Geidt, Private Secretary, will address staff from royal residences as far afield as Balmoral.
Sources said the Lord Chamberlain does call meetings from time to time and that it would be wrong to speculate.

Social media immediately went into overdrive, speculating about the death of a senior royal or an abdication.
The Telegraph understands neither scenario is likely, with sources warning there is "no cause for concern" or hysteria.

The Queen attended the Royal Maundy service at Leicester Cathedral on April 13
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were both in good health Wednesday.

The Queen met with Prime Minister Theresa May at Buckingham Palace while the Duke made a jovial appearance at a London cricket club.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, smiles during his visit to Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday

Staff are due to meet at 10am to learn the news first, before it is announced to the public.

"Everyone is on tenterhooks," one source told the Daily Mail last night. "Although meetings involving the entire royal household are occasionally called, the way this has been done at the eleventh hour is highly unusual and suggests that there is something major to be disseminated.

"But at the moment, only those closest to her genuinely know what on earth this is all about."

Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the meeting. New crews gathered outside the palace to await word on an announcement.

The Queen, who turned 91 last month, met with Theresa May at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to mark the dissolution of Parliament.

The Duke of Edinburgh, meanwhile, opened a new £25 million stand at Lord's cricket ground, where the 95-year-old joked: "You're about to see the world's most experienced plaque-unveiler".

Well, the woman's passing is a good moment for India to exit from the Commonwealth. The fact is that 'Head of the Commonwealth' is not a hereditary title. Lizzie 2 is the head because she was the woman in charge when it was founded as such in 1952. Back then there were only 8 members, of whom India was the only Republic. In fact she was called 'head of commonwealth' rather than some stupid imperial title because we were a republic. But again, Charlie will not automatically become 'head of commonwealth'. In fact the Brits have been quietly lobbying for it to become so, with their usual anglo flunkies. That presents an opportunity for India to gently exit from the whole thing amidst their local mourning time.

This is so obviously an attempt to tarnish Indian Pharma companies. They think that they will get their simple minded readers to support a boycott India campaign or make in UK.

They have serious butt hurt, because Asia is rising and they, because of their own stupidity, greed and laziness are declining.

There are plenty of stories about Thames Water, no doubt this is all the fault of India as well.

cyberattack on NHS computers in UK due to old operating system ..
Experts say one potential security issue is that many organisations still use out of date operating systems such as Windows XP.
Data obtained by software firm Citrix under Freedom of Information rules in December suggested this was the case in up to 90% of NHS trusts, but NHS Digital says it is a "much smaller number".
Ms Rudd accepted Windows XP was "not a good platform" for keeping data secure.
She told Sky News that the health secretary Jeremy Hunt had already instructed NHS trusts not to use the 2001 operating system.
"I would expect NHS trusts to learn from this and to make sure that they do upgrade," she said.
Shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth added that he had written to Mr Hunt, saying the public had a right to know exactly what the government would do to ensure such an attack was "never repeated again".
Responding, Ms Rudd said the government had doubled spending on cyber-security to £1.9bn between 2016 and 2021.
Brian Lord, the former director for intelligence and cyber operations at GCHQ, told BBC's Newsnight that the NHS was particularly vulnerable to such attacks because of its ageing IT systems and "complex interconnectivity".
In response to the global attack, Microsoft said it had rolled out a free security update to Windows XP, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2003 "to protect their customers".

http://news.sky.com/story/edward-heath-five-police-forces-investigating-10350426

A fifth police force receives allegations against Sir Edward Heath - amid claims the ex-PM took boys from Jersey out on his boat.
Five police forces have confirmed they have received allegations of child sex abuse involving the former prime minister Sir Edward Heath.

Police in Jersey, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Kent and London are all investigating allegations involving the former politician.

Late last night, the Hampshire force was the latest to confirm it is looking into allegations made against the former PM.

Earlier, police in Jersey said Sir Edward was being investigated as part of their historical child sex abuse inquir
y.
Kent Police said it had received a report of a sexual assault against Sir Edward in East Kent in the 1960s.

And the Metropolitan Police is looking into accusations by a man, now aged 65. He claims he was raped at the age of 12 by Sir Edward, in Mayfair, London.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "In April 2015 an allegation of rape was made to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).

"An officer from Operation Fairbank interviewed the complainant that same month and obtained a full account. Support services were offered.

"However, after a full assessment of the allegation there were no lines of inquiry that could proportionately be pursued by the MPS."

It is also claimed the politician was seen by a Met Police detective going into a north London property where boys were abused in the '70s.

The first allegation against Sir Edward emerged on Monday.

Wiltshire Police disclosed the force was being investigated for failing to handle an apparent allegation made against the politician in the 1990s.

A woman at the centre of the claims has been revealed to be a Filipino prostitute called Myra Ling-Ling Forde - now 67.

According to a retired detective she had been arrested on inciting prostitution charges in the mid 90s but the court case against her was dropped after she threatened to expose Sir Edward as a paedophile.

Lord Armstrong of Ilminster, Sir Edward's former principal private secretary, told Sky News the allegations were "absolute nonsense".

But since then further details of claims have emerged including those on Jersey.

In a statement, Jersey Police said: "Sir Edward Heath does feature as part of Operation Whistle, currently investigating historical allegations of abuse in Jersey."

The force says the allegations of abuse involve 13 "people of public prominence".

Many of the claims centre on the Haut de la Garenne children's home, which closed in 1986.

The home was said to have been "frequented" by Jimmy Savile, who has been accused of abusing youngsters there.

US Newsweek reporter Leah Goodman has claimed she was told of allegations against Sir Edward on Jersey in 2011.

But she says she was then thrown out of the UK for investigating them.

She told Sky News: "(Police officers investigating claims at the children's home) had heard the rumours and I know a few of the senior members of the police believed that (Heath) was at it.

"The yachting culture had long been known for bringing boys and other children out on boats into international waters ... murky legalities ... it was a place where it was understood people couldn't escape.

"I know Edward Heath was involved in the yachting culture on the island."

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/may/17/boris-johnson-apologises-after-discussing-alcohol-in-sikh-temple
Boris Johnson has apologised after he caused a “livid” reaction in a worshipper in a Sikh temple by discussing his enthusiasm for a boost in the whisky trade, apparently without realising that alcohol is forbidden under some Sikh teachings.

The foreign secretary, who is widely seen as having been sidelined during the election campaign over his perceived propensity for gaffes, was visiting a Sikh temple in St George’s in Bristol when he made remarks about ending tariffs on whisky traded between the UK and India.

In a BBC recording of the event, a female worshipper can be heard taking him to task, asking: “How dare you talk about alcohol in a Sikh temple?” After the unidentified woman also told him about alcoholism in her family, he apologised several times.

Johnson was visiting the Shri Guru Nanak Prakash Singh Sabha gurdwara in Bristol in an effort to woo voters from the city’s large Sikh community to the Tories.

The former London mayor, seen as a liability by some in Theresa May’s team, was filmed wearing a bright orange turban before arguing that a free trade deal with India could be good for both countries. Seemingly unaware that the drinking of alcohol is forbidden under some Sikh teachings, he told the crowd that he was going to sign a free trade deal in order to boost the trade in whisky.

I hope I’m not embarrassing anybody here by saying that when we go to India, we have to bring ‘clinky’ in our luggage,” he said. “We have to bring Johnnie Walker.”

“There is a duty of 150% in India on imports of Scottish whisky. So we have to bring it in for our relatives duty free. Imagine what we could do with a trade deal with India, which there will be, because then the tariffs would go.”

His words provoked an angry response from some members of the crowd, with one women, named as Balbir Kaur, particularly vocal in her criticism. “How dare you talk about alcohol in a Sikh temple?” she said. “You are standing in a Sikh [temple] talking about alcohol, which is absolutely not right.”

The former mayor replied: “I’m very sorry if you think that alcohol is a bad thing – I understand your point of view. It is not, though, the view of every religion. There are plenty of Sikhs who are good and practising Sikhs who don’t take your attitude.

“I do think it is relevant to our considerations that whisky is a huge business in this country and a free trade deal with India would be of great value.”

Kaur then told Johnson that she had relatives who had suffered from alcoholism. Other members of the crowd reportedly told Johnson that if he had made the comments in India, he “would not have got out of the temple alive”.

Bhai Narinderjit Singh, general secretary of the Sikh Federation, said that “no politician in his right mind” would speak in a gurdwara about a trade deal involving alcohol. “It is a requirement that Sikhs should not consume any intoxicants. Anyone (Sikh or non-Sikh) who has consumed alcohol or has tobacco on them is not allowed to enter a gurdwara, Sikh place of worship. There are signs up in all gurdwaras.”

Singh said Johnson should know better, given that his wife, Marina Wheeler, is half Sikh. “Boris Johnson should know much better - after all, he is the foreign secretary, and his mother-in-law is a Sikh.”

A spokesman for Johnson denied that it was a gaffe, claiming instead that he was sympathising with the woman’s personal situation. “Boris was simply making the point that a free trade deal with, for example, India could be huge for both sides, pointing out that in India, billions of litres of whisky are consumed every year but there is a 150% tariff on imports of Scotch whisky.

“One lady expressed her views based on a personal situation, but the other 30 attendees warmly welcomed his remarks. He said he was sorry to hear of her personal story, that was all. There was no gaffe … The temple regulars loved him being there.”

Exactly my point, she should save her sermons for her relatives. More to the point, if her conviction is so sound why are any of her relatives alcoholics?

Take it easy guys.

no sense in duking it out here on the forum because one insensitive british twit/twat didn't have the brains to mind his p's and q's, especially when making a visit to a sikh gurudwara.

I would have spoken less, listened more, prayed with them, eaten at the langar and washed some dishes before I thanked them all for their gracious hospitality and left quietly.

Apparently her convictions seem to be "sound" as she herself does not appear to be alcoholic. It's her relatives whose "convictions" appear not be "sound" as you put it. I can only guess it must have been a sore spot with her and Boris bringing it up in a Gurudwara would have touched a nerve.
