Re: Bomb explosion in Boston
Dont worry. It will come. The elder guy went to Russia and returned six months later. For all you know he could have hopped on to you know where to attend schooling in pressure cooker bombs.
Isnt Tamarlane a western name for him -- Timur the Lame because of a an arrow injury when he was young?

NBC is reporting that both brothers had received military training from ' a foreign military organization" and may have traveled to AF-Pak border in October 2008. Since 2009 both brothers have been in the US and kept fit by boxing and the younger one was apparently a wrestling champ. Their father is a Chechen diplomat who was posted in Pakistan for 14 years as an attache. Both brothers have spent upwards of 3 years ( schooling) in Pakistan. The elder brother traveled through Pakistan with his girlfriend in 2007. where he is said to be on a skiing holiday in the Karakoram mountain range. The anchor is speculating that the only way to access the skii ranges in Pakistan is via military helicopters and therefore he may have come in contact with the Pakistani military / powerful ISI. More later. Stay tuned..

Gus,
The DNA indicates they are all mostly Mongols now. Mahesh had a long series of papers in the OIT thread showing this. Tons of kids are named Napolean despite the horrors he visited on Europe. Aurangazeb seems popular enough in India as well.
--------------------------------
The dad has already lost one son and has one son left. He is trying everything possible to save him. He is putting pressure on both sides to try and save his son. Think of him as a father first and his actions become clearer.

OT Alert: On
Tamurlane/ Teimur/ Timur are all westernized names for him. Actually in the Russian Far East/ Mongolia/ Central Asia he is romanticized as a great leader. While his origins are claimed by many, his name most probably was "Temüdjin". For an idea of the kind of historical meme/icon he has become, watch the movie- Mongol by Sergei Bodrov.
So, yes the name Tamerlane has less to do with a Muslim identity but more to do with a Chechen identity. Though that does not seem to be relevant for the moment.
OT Alert: Off
Added later: Nachiket's right on when he says:

Yawn.....
All smoke and mirrors, paki connection will eventually turn up, ketchup kerry will unload more dollars on that pox of a nation, pakistan. Security will become even more stringent in US.
Now this was a trial run, it is just a matter of time more faithfools start doing copycat attacks.
But a right-wing gun-nut has a propensity to cause more casualties with a pea-shooter gunning down lil kids in diapers. If I was a American sh!tizen, I would be more concerned about that.
All this is a good show to watch with butter popcorn and a diet soda.

Viewing photo of dead suspect cathartic for some law enforcement officers

http://www.boston.com/metrodesk/2013/04 ... story.html
His mouth is agape. His face is awash in blood. On his right side is a wide gash where doctors cut him open to try to start his heart and save his life.
The image of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, dead and naked on a slab, snapped by an unknown person, was emailed repeatedly by law enforcement officers Friday morning.
“Suspect 1” was written above the gruesome picture.
Seeing a photo of one of the Marathon bombing suspects dead was cathartic, said one law enforcement official who saw the picture.
Passing it around was a rare chance “to revel” while other officers searched for Tsarnaev’s brother, Dzhokhar the official said. “Mission accomplished. We’re halfway there. Justice is served.”
Boston police officers have been working 12-hour shifts since Monday and many were kept well past the end of their shift Friday morning after the chaos broke out Thursday night.
Officers who had been working since 6 p.m. were placed at major intersections around their districts and told to look at passing cabs. Some were stopped as officers peered into the backseat looking for Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, the remaining Boston Marathon bombing suspect.
Officers who started their day at 6 a.m. and had gotten a few more hours of sleep were sent out of their districts to help with the search.

Re: Bomb explosion in Boston
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzhokhar_DudayevChechnya - Chechnya's war-ravaged capital has been called Dzhokhar-Ghala (later Dzhokhar) by Chechens in 1997 during its de facto independence.[17] After the Second Chechen War Djokhar were renamed to Russian called Grozny again. It is notable that Chechens in general refrain from using the name Groznyi (which is Russian for terrible, and considered demeaning), either calling the city Dzhokhar or by its other Chechen name, Sölƶa-Ġala.

A Look at Brothers Suspected in the Boston Bombing
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 32278.html
The younger Mr. Tsarnaev is a student at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, a university spokesman said.
A spokeswoman for Bunker Hill Community College said Tamerlan Tsarnaev was in an accounting program there but didn't receive a degree or certificate.
U.S. law-enforcement officials said the two brothers came to the U.S. at different times—one with his parents in 2002 and the other on his own in 2004. Intelligence and counterterrorism officials have been scouring records to look for intersections with the two men, officials said.
Records indicate one or both of the brothers had spent time in the Caucasus region since they first immigrated to the U.S. and then returned to the U.S., officials said. A law-enforcement official said Tamerlan Tsarnaev flew to Moscow on Jan. 12, 2012, and returned July 17.
Andrea Kramer, a Cambridge attorney whose sons attended Cambridge Rindge & Latin School with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, emphasized the diversity of the Cambridge community as its "strength and beauty." She said her children and their friends celebrated the fact that so many in the area had roots in other parts of the world.
"[Dzhokhar] wasn't 'them.' He was 'us.' He was Cambridge. This is something that happened here. The kids are trying to make sense of it. They're frustrated at people talking about him as a foreigner, because he was Cambridge," she said while under lockdown in her home.
The friend who rented an apartment to Tsarnaev family said the father, Anzor Tsarnaev, was a talented car mechanic and aspired to open his own garage. But he never mastered English, the friend said, or opened his own workspace. He tried to make ends meet by doing odd repair jobs for $10 an hour.
Larry Aaronson, a retired history teacher and current photographer at Cambridge Rindge, said he never saw anything that raised red flags.
"I know this kid to be compassionate. I know this kid to be forthcoming," he said in an interview near his house in Somerville. "He's a great athlete; he's a gentleman; he's a sportsman; he was never in trouble. Every conversation I had with him—he was generous, compassionate and thoughtful."
Mr. Aaronson, who clutched a yearbook with the young man's picture inside, said the two had talked about Chechnya. Mr. Tsarnaev had said his family was there during the separatist conflict though he didn't really remember it.
"He then went on to say how grateful he was to be here in the United States, how grateful he was to be at school and what a lucky and fortunate person he was," Mr. Aaronson recalled.
Abbie Cohen, who went to elementary school and high school with Dzhokhar, and described him as a "a really good friend," said he was "a nice and quiet and studious kid.''
"When I saw the FBI video, it crossed my mind for maybe a second he looked familiar, like, that looks like Jahar. But I never would have acted on it because I thought there was no possible way.''
She said she remembered him as a boy in her 5th and 6th grade classes, but said he apparently left the country for a time, and then one day reappeared at her high school.
In high school, he was on the wrestling team, worked summers as a lifeguard, and "he was definitely better at art than me,'' said Ms. Cohen.
Samuel Gebru, who also went to high school with Dzhokhar, remembered him as a "very quiet kid.''
"I never saw him in any circles that could cause trouble. I'm really very surprised,'' said Mr. Gebru.
In Cambridge, workers at Webster Auto Body at the corner of Webster Avenue and Norfolk Street believe the brothers' father, Anzor, worked at the body shop about five years ago.
"Just a good hard-working guy who didn't speak a lot of English," said manager Jerry Siegal, who doesn't recall the sons.
"It gives you a pit in your stomach," said Mr. Siegal.
Robert Couture, who lives on Norfolk Street, also said the father would fix cars on the street, which irritated some neighbors. Mr. Couture said he brothers, about six years ago, when they were younger , used to play pick-up soccer in the street.
"They were skinny, tall kids always playing soccer," Mr. Couture said.
The dense urban neighborhood sits in the Cambridge-Somerville line. It is ethnically diverse and a resident described it as "in transition" with artists moving in and newer condos changing the area somewhat. There are quite a few auto-body shops.

The Timur of the past was not originally named Temujin, but just Timur. Temujin was Genghiz Khan's original name. Timur/Teimur/Taimur are Turkic names while Tamerlane is indeed western. Timur was born either a Muslim Turk or Turko-Mongol, while Genghiz Khan was Mongol. From what I've heard, supposedly 5 to 10 petabytes (2005 figures) of intelligence data is collected every month by NSA. Problem lies in the intelligence analysts. Not many can positively identify a situation brewing ahead of time due to lack of cultural and regional knowledge/understandings in addition to the religions/races/local politics/practices.Theo_Fidel wrote:This sort of stuff is only tracked on BRF.

Suraj,
Thanx for that. It is quite fascinating and worth keeping track off.
Yes, oddly enough the modern day Turks in Turkey were immigrants from the caucuses area. They displaced the original inhabitants including the kurds, who in turn displaced those before them. What is even more odd is that the original inhabitants of Turkey, the R1b clades then went on to populate most of extreme western Europe. Most of France Italy, Spain, parts of Germany & England.
You would not catch too many of the causasian folks identify as Turk or Mongol these days.

Tips about the identity of the suspects were still pouring in when the Tsarnaev brothers fatally shot MIT patrol officer Sean Collier, 26, in his vehicle at 10:20 p.m., law enforcement officials said.
The brothers then carjacked a Mercedes SUV, holding the driver captive for a half-hour while they tried to use his cash card to get money from three ATM's, a source said. At the first, they put in the wrong number; at the second, they took out $800 and at the third, they were told they had exceeded the withdrawal limit, the source said.
The carjacking victim was released unharmed at a gas station in Cambridge, sources said. He told police the brothers said they were the marathon bombers and had just killed a campus officer.

Re: Bomb explosion in Boston
imo so far police are assuming the charles river forms a safe southern perimeter for their search zone.
however its significantly narrow once it goes upstream from harvard and perhaps no more than 20m of very placid water...at its head I know its just no more than a stream.
what if munna2 is a good swimmer, made it across in the night and has gone to ground south of the river? nobody is even searching there.
see watertown here

Shree Praveen Swamy's article dissing "Indian responses vs Boston" now sounds like a premie-ejac for these reasons:
1) based on the perp's family's responses, khan seem to have no idea about these guys for nearly 12 hours, because they never seem to have bothered to look beyond what Rudradev-saar terms as hool (feeds from ISI).
2) piss-poor media management. Including tarnishing an Indian origin kid, a high schooler of middle-east origin etc
3) The first thing the cops reached for are sidearms after hearing a blast. Mind you, these are not elite soldiers, but law enforcement folks. If something goes down near me, I would not want to be near such a "trained person", because their training is insufficient to not consider me a legit target
4) Boston exhibited some cheap-ass looting of trophies to boot. I am sure it is just a case of "Brave Bostonians taking care of booth", but I am yet to see a photo of a Mumbaikar "taking care of Taj cutlery or Leopold Cafe crockery".
5) no one lost their job nor are their public/politicians asking for scalps unlike India's, including Shree Eric Holder or Shreemati Napolitano. I guess these two (with hi-tech maal at their disposal) are all "too awesome to resign", unlike our bumbling low-tech babu-netas ?
anyways, this looks like an internal matter of US and has nothing to do with India or issues that Indians faces from US-supported pakistan. I dont understand why this could not be a part of Indo-US thread.
They made an aseptic planting and a rather clean get away and seem to have planned well till this point. So why 711 loot? Is it that a rendezvous went foul? The mayhem began at approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday when police said the bombing suspects robbed a 7-Eleven store in Cambridge. Minutes later, police said, the men shot and killed an MIT campus officer, Sean Collier, 26, responding to the robbery call. The terror suspects then carjacked a Mercedes-Benz SUV with the driver inside and fled, eventually letting the driver go.

Re: Bomb explosion in Boston
The best counter is Africa... Millions of people are brutalized horribly by conflict, yet I haven't heard of one African (Christian/animist) suicide bomber!!!
Re: Bomb explosion in Boston
Wonder why they haven't released video/photos of the guy planting the bomb. His family is crying frame-up and everyone who knew at least the younger kid can't believe he's capable of this. The visual "proof" would go a long way in bringing some belief, closure and acceptance.
