As a thought experiment
1. In case of conflict can we take Tibet region upto Yarlung Tsangpo(Brahmaputra) / Indus starting from Kailas and defend it with our current forces?
This would be a major win as it will prevent major blackmailing on the part of China to divert the waters? This is also still very far away from china proper so logistics will be difficult as today for them to fight a war so far away. This should be a must if current capability exists.
2. What will it take to capture Outer Tibet ( yangtse as boundary)?
3. What will it take to capture entire Tibet (i.e. till china proper bordered by Lanzhou-Chendu-Lijiang) ?
Would 2&3 above need involvement of Russia and US?

Dalai Lama Says His Successor May Come From India, Sends Message to China
Dharamshala: The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, said on Monday it was possible that once he dies his incarnation could be found in India, where he has lived in exile for 60 years, and warned that any other successor named by China would not be respected.
Pondering what might happen after his death, the Dalai Lama anticipated some attempt by Beijing to foist a successor on Tibetan Buddhists.
"China considers Dalai Lama's reincarnation as something very important. They have more concern about the next Dalai Lama than me," said the Dalai Lama, swathed in his traditional red robes and yellow scarf.
"In future, in case you see two Dalai Lamas come, one from here, in free country, one chosen by Chinese, then nobody will trust, nobody will respect (the one chosen by China). So that's an additional problem for the Chinese! It's possible, it can happen," he added, laughing.

Home minister for Tibetan Govt in Exile makes a case for renewed/additional efforts from India.

How bout you pay something for the war effort instead of sitting on your behind and hiding in India. Everybody seems to be trying to shoot using India’s shoulder. I’m sure a call to arms and donations from Dalai Lama will generate enough funds for such an effort and win more public sympathy worldwide.Nalla Baalu wrote:Home minister for Tibetan Govt in Exile makes a case for renewed/additional efforts from India.
