TTP under attack from rival groups near Pak-Afghan border

PESHAWAR: [b]Clashes between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups erupted in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region as hundreds of fighters attacked TTP bases situated in Kunar and Nangarhar province of Afghanistan[/u].

Taliban sources said hundreds of armed fighters comprising Lashkar-i-Taiba, Ansarul Islam (AI), 'Mohmand force' and other local militias (lashkars) were part of a joint attack on Pakistani Taliban positions in Afghanistan.

Earlier, reports had said that the Afghan Taliban were also backing the attacking groups but later the TTP requested Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Omar to intervene and as a result the clash was averted. Rival groups have now initiated another attack of which the Afghan Taliban are not a part, said TTP commander.

Mukarram Khurasani, spokesman for the TTP's Mohmand chapter chief Omar Khaliq, told Dawn.com that hundreds of militants had attacked the Pakistani Taliban positions in Shongrai and the bordering village of Jarobi Darra.

Khurasani also accused Lashkar-i-Taiba commander Haji Abdul Rahim of leading the attackers.

The Taliban's Mohmand chapter chief also claimed that the attack had been repulsed and said that one attacker was killed while three were injured.

Meanwhile, Lashkar-i-Taiba spokesperson Mahmud Ghaznavi rejected the allegations that the group was involved in the clashes. Ghaznavi said that the Lashkar-i-Taiba is operational only in Kashmir and has nothing to do with the TTP or the Afghan Taliban.

The exact number of causalities could not independently verified as the area is a 'no-man's land' where the Afghan government has no writ and militants exercise control.

Most of the militants under attack are believed to be associated with the TTP who had escaped military operations in Mohmand, Bajaur, Malakand division and Khyber tribal region in neighboring Pakistan.

The clash might be a continuation of the killing of militant commander Shah Sahib, who led another Islamist group engaged in fighting US-led Nato troops in Afghanistan and was based in Mohmand Agency since 2006.

TTP militants led by Umar Khalid Khurasani attacked the training centre of the Shah group on July 19, 2008, killing many, including Shah Sahib. Most of the Shah Sahib loyalists were either kidnapped or killed and the group was eliminated from Mohmand tribal region.

Most members of the group are presently part of tribal lashkars (local militias) rivaling the TTP.

‘Superstitious’ Zardari delays diplomatic formalities
For President Asif Ali Zardari acting upon the advice of his Pir (spiritual mentor) is more important than receiving foreign ambassadors. At least, it seems so in the backdrop of recent events.

Sources told Dawn.com that President Zardari’s travel plans twice delayed the ceremony where eight ambassadors were supposed to present their credentials.

It was reported the president flew from the hilly federal capital on the advice of his Pir who wanted him to stay close to the seashore for “good-luck” and to ward off ‘some evil spirits dangling over his head.’

TTP Claims attack on Karachi Judge - Dawn
Spokesperson for the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ehsanullah Ehsan, told Dawn.com that the militant organisation was responsible for the attack on the senior SHC judge.

Ehsan further said that the judge was targeted for what he said were "anti-Taliban and anti-mujahideen decisions" adding that the group would continue to target judiciary.

Did Kerry snub Islamabad? - Yawn!

Islamabad was initially part of US Secretary of State’s itinerary, but at a later stage US officials said that due to unexpected developments in Syria, he would not be proceeding to Pakistan.
Officially, it was stated that he was skipping Islamabad because he got too busy because of the latest developments in Syria. But then he landed in New Delhi and discussed Afghanistan with the Indian leadership.
We were expecting to discuss a wide range of talk, not just Afghanistan
The government still hopes that the strategic dialogue could be revived on Kerry’s next trip to Pakistan, but sources told Dawn.Com there was little chance of John Kerry visiting Islamabad in the near future.
Pakistani officials see Kerry’s continued engagement on Afghanistan throughout his Asia trip as a particular snub, with Pakistan being ignored throughout this time.
They (Americans) will come back to Islamabad for help on Afghanistan. They need us there,” said former Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed Khan.
However, the most recent ‘snub’ was particularly noted in Islamabad, especially after Kerry acknowledged a greater role for India in bringing stability and democracy to Afghanistan.
Experts believe that Kerry’s assertions in New Delhi represent the public acknowledgement of that greater role.

Its unfortunate that Brookings has hosted the Dalrymple propaganda article in their research section.
Dalrymple has already made it very clear that he thinks he is white mughal tracing his descent from some lady in the 3rd Nizam's zenana who was sold off to the British Resident in Hyderabad at that time. The white looking children were shipped off to Blighty and the darkies held back in India.
He claims descent for the kids shipped to Engliand.
And he belives that TSP is homeland for Indian Muslims (especially the Mughal dregs from Ganga -Jamni kulture) and bats for them everytime and everywhere.

So calling him an English scholar who is writing research reports etc is nonsense.

Lastly Dalrymple is a Scottish name!!!!*

But thanks to Dalrymple for revealing that some high society in England is of Indian origin. When some members said this they were accused of CT by those who have since left.

I know a few Dalrymples in California who attest to this.

According to NSN interview of eyewitnesses, the attackers also shouted "raisin-dieter, cashmere..." and were wearing saffron bands.

BTW once met a hig- up medic, graduate of very high institutes in desh, who had served three tours of those medical missions.
Got credible assurance its only pure medical work they do in those hospitals, but compared to the terrorist attacks from TSP, it is winning hearts and minds of Afghans and gives takleef to TSP.

Titanic of the Muslim Ummah is sinking: All-Laugh Huss Ain

Islamic Tuttenic Haan Ji
Mutthahida Qaumi Movement chief Alllauf Hussain says that the “Titanic” of the Muslim Ummah is sinking and that immediate steps should be taken before “the whole ship collapses and finally sinks.”Speaking during a telephonic address to the Rabita Committee, Hussain recalled the promises that were made to those on the Titanic and said they were similar those being made to the Pakistani poqulation.
The bureaucrats and higher officials sitting on the upper decks of the ship had no idea about the ship sinking so much so that they were unaware of the water that had entered the lower ranks of the ship, Hussain said.He said that when the Titanic was sinking, the higher officials on the upper parts of the ship continued to indulge in their lavish lives of eating and drinking whilst the lower parts of the ship were being destroyed. However, he said that sooner or later theupper portion was destroyed as well, killing everyone that was on board.
The MQM chief then gave an example of such misleadings when the radio in West Pakistan stated that Pakistani armed forces were victorious on all fronts against the Indian forces in East Pakistan, while in reality 93,000 Pakistani soldiers were laying down their arms to Indian forces at that time.I hope they don’t forget what I am saying today as merely a story,” said Hussain. ( He knows how to Rub Poaq Nose)Hussain said that what was shameful was that the false promises that are being made in Pakistan are still being made.Statements such as these are putting people in a delusion, like they have been put in delusions in the past, said Hussain. The MQM chief said that he will talk in detail about the ship’s captain, those running the ship and other staff in his next address to the Raabta Committee.

Well almost, except for Pakjab, meaning either TTP is afraid of backlash or TTP is working with Pakjabis to terrorize the rest of the nation and in Karachi terorrize MQM wallas. At least that is the case with the Pakjabis groups like LeJ/SeS etc whp seem to only act outside Pakjab.

After IA had fenced most of LoC, Pakis had trained terrorists to travel across higher mountains where fencing was not done or was impossible. These terrorists were and still are supplied with good quality high altitude gear. Either they could be PA, Gilgit Scouts or they could just be the unofficial army men of Pakistan. Both are possible.

On the other hand, 13000 feet altitude does not mean that they were actually climbing on a mountain. Actual climbing on a lot of mountain peaks in Himalayas begins from base camps at such altitudes or even higher. These places are rugged but still accessible by vehicles and you don't need much acclimatization and mountaineering training to do this. Some members in previous page suggested that the killers had climbed mountain to track and locate the climbers. I'm reasonably sure that it isn't the case.

According to Dainik Jagran 2 days back, the massacre was done in a hotel, not during the climbing trip.

AFAIK, average altitude of snow line in different regions across the globe varies a lot. But in northern Himalayas occupied by Pakistan, the minimum should be around 15500 feet (~ 4800 m). I'm not sure about that specific region.

Edit:
While searching for Nanga Parbat, I came across this image:
Image

According to this picture, actual climbing starts from roughly 4200 m ( 13800 feet). The base of mountain peak at that height should be fairly accessible to any fit person, even vehicles.
Rohtang Pass is nearly 4000 m and it's almost a highway.

NightWatch For the night of 26 June 2013

Pakistan: Update. The News published an update on the government's action against Musharraf for "high treason." The article quoted sections of the government's reply to a 24 June order by the Supreme Court. That reply said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the interior secretary to order the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to constitute a special team of senior officers to begin an investigation of the actions of "General (retd) Parvez Musharraf" on 3 November 2007 that might amount to "high treason." The FIA also was ordered to finalize as soon as possible the statement of the case to be pursued by the federal government before the special court to be constituted. "On the completion of the investigation, the federal government shall file the requisite complaint under Section 5 of the Criminal Law Amendment (Special Courts Act, 1976) and take steps to constitute the special court in accordance with Section 4 of the said Act for the trial of the offence." With respect to the legal requirements for a treason investigation, the government also submitted that the law entrusts the investigation of the offence of high treason to the FIA. In order to ensure a speedy completion of the FIA inquiry and investigation, the Prime Minister is also considering the constitution of a commission to oversee and monitor the progress of the proceedings. The court will resume hearing in the instant case on Thursday, 27 June. Comment: The government's submission today indicates strong determination to bring Musharraf to justice by creating new three agencies. First is the special investigation team within the FIA. Second is the special court that will receive the FIA's statement of the case. Third is the oversight commission. The government submission is significant for what it did not state. It did not mention any charge of treason based on Musharraf's military coup in October 1999. In an apparent deal with or concession to the Pakistan Army, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has agreed to not pursue that case. A government investigation of the 1999 coup would have implicated many senior, now retired, general officers who were following orders from the Chief of the Army Staff, Musharraf. Those generals would include most of the army corps commanders in 1999 and the Chief of the air staff, all of whom abetted Musharraf's ouster of then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. On the other hand, Musharraf's suspension of the constitution and arrest of some 60 judges in November 2007 had no Army involvement. By dropping the 1999 case, Nawaz Sharif apparently obtained the consent of the Army leadership to not intervene in the investigation and eventual trial of a former Chief of Army. The Army now will not be put on trial, only Musharraf and his political cronies. The government concession on the charges avoids arguments that Nawaz Sharif was only seeking vengeance for having been overthrown by Musharraf in 1999.

Pakjabis have fortified lawhore, pindi and slumabad. They are bystanding and watching TTP slaughter MQM. So far there is significant reluctance from pakjabis to commit and siege Karachi. My guess is once MQM is sufficiently neutralized they will make a move for Karachi.

As for TTP, there is no point in wasting their valuable resources on pakjabi cities. They first want to secure money flow from Karachi. It would be a stupid move for TTP if they continue such onslaught on MQM. If they are wise they will keep MQM alive enough to deter pakjabis. If they are brilliant, they will make an alliance with MQM. Who knows may be their plan is to bend MQM to an extend that a proposition should come from MQM itself.

Somehow I think that the Nanga Parbat massacre was done by LET, that is if we really want to pin the blame on a group.

TTP is the establishment's favourite whipping boy. The pakis have been alleging for ages that the TTP are american stooges - they are under the influence of the YYY axis.

One can't help noticing that any uncomfortable incident (uncomfortable for the Paki-pindi establishment) ends up being pinned on the TTP.

Whereas, the LET is the ISI's blue eyed child, same Pakjab family ties - same villages / one brother in the army, other in the LET - kinda relationship. They have trained the LET cadres in all sorts of infiltration methods - Sea: Ajmal Kasab and the mumbai attackers, High altitude: all the J&K infiltrators, the bulk of whom are LET.

BTW, this thing about there being groups is very mayavi

At the cadre level, there is blurring of the lines between all these Pakjabi groups. The sectarian groups like the LEJ; or the LET etc all draw cadres for various missions from the same cesspool. One Jihadi might be working for LET and might do a tour in J&K - if he survives, and is still young, the LET might send him to Afghanistan. Later that guy might be killing Shias with the LEJ etc.

Often there is no actual single group - The commander might have worked for several organizations. He gets tasked by the ISI for a mission and is asked to pick up a team from the cesspool.

The bottom line is, that all these groups and individuals are eventually answerable to and controlled, trained, protected by the Pakistani state / Establishment / ISI. The commanders have handlers who are ISI / Pakistani army officers and JCOs.

This business of trying to find which group did this is futile. The only terrorist group which is ultimately responsible is the ISI and the Pakistani Army.

Gagan, TTP has claimed the responsibility. It may not be that difficult for them to carry out the killing at Nagna Parvata as FATA is pretty close to the PoK.
