Admission of state sponsored terrorism by Pakistani authorities

see this Der Spigel Interview where Musharraf admits to that.

On 7th Nov in TimesNow Channel, Tasneem Noorani, a former Secretary of the Pakistani Interior Ministry, openly said that.

Kiyani called the Haqqanis as strategic assets.

In Dec. 2008, President Zardari himself admitted to ISI helping LeT. He said,"The links between the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency and the LeT were developed in the old days when dictators used to run the country. After the 9/11 terror attacks in the US, things have changed to a great extent"

In an address to bureaucrats in July 2009, President Zardari said: "Militants and extremists were deliberately created and nurtured as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives. Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities. The terrorists of today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they began to haunt us as well"

In Nov. 2009, Prime Minister Gilani admitted to the support for terrorism by Musharraf as "running with the hares and hunting with the hounds".

When Bush warned the Pakistanis in August 2008 of their support to Al Qaeda, Afrasiab Khattak, President of Awami National Party (ANP) said this: "The question is why it has taken the Americans so long to see what the ISI is doing. We’ve been telling them for years but they wouldn’t buy it.". See here.

In an interview to the BBC as far back as on Feb. 13, 1994, Benazir Bhutto admitted how she handed over to Rajiv Gandhi the complete list of Sikh activists colluding with the ISI in terrorism in the Punjab. Later, Nawaz Sharif described this interview as a faux pas.

Apart from these, of course, numerous Pakistani commentators, analysts, and editors have openly admitted to terror as a state policy.

Why Did Pakistan's Spy Chief Make a Secret Trip to China?
Quote:
Pasha's China trip has been interpreted by some as a tacit act of defiance—a reminder to his American counterparts that the Pakistanis can always look east to their “all-weather” friend across the Himalayas rather than bend the knee to the will of the U.S.

But it also may be a sign of China's growing disquiet with Pakistan. Another top-ranking Pakistani military officer, Lt. Gen Wahid Arshad, had already conducted a considerable tour of China just weeks ago in a bid to improve ties. A few analysts have suggested that Pasha's trip — couched in vague terms about building a “broad-based strategic dialogue” — may have been less a visit and more of a summons.
Quote:
Chinese officials claimed the attacks in Kashgar were authored by the shadowy East Turkestan Islamic Movement, a jihadist organization of mostly ethnic Uighurs, a Turkic Muslim minority that comprises the majority in the far-western Chinese region of Xinjiang. China routinely invokes the specter of the terrorist threat when cracking down on dissent in the restive region. Yet disturbances there tend to be triggered more often by social discontent — many Uighurs chafe at state policies they deem discriminatory and marginalizing — than militant connivance. Pasha's presence in Beijing may mark Beijing's continued efforts to root out Uighur dissidents and sympathizers beyond China's borders, as it has already done in Kazakhstan.

Pakistan's Next Premier an Islamist Comeback Kid
Critics worry that Sharif, who is known to be personally very religious, is soft on Islamic extremism and won't crack down on militants that pose a serious threat to Pakistan and other countries — chief among them the Taliban and al-Qaida-linked groups.
Sharif's party, which controlled the Punjab government for the last five years, is more closely aligned with hard-line Islamist parties than the outgoing Pakistan People's Party. The Pakistan Muslim League-N has been criticized for not going after militant outfits in Punjab, a stance analysts said was driven by its reliance on banned militant groups to deliver key votes.

ON WHY? DECLAN WALSH WAS BOOTED OUT OF NAPAK.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/ma ... -dirty-war
[quotePakistan's secret dirty war
In Balochistan, mutilated corpses bearing the signs of torture keep turning up, among them lawyers, students and farm workers. Why is no one investigating and what have they got to do with the bloody battle for Pakistan's largest province?][/quote]
The bodies surface quietly, like corks bobbing up in the dark. They come in twos and threes, a few times a week, dumped on desolate mountains or empty city roads, bearing the scars of great cruelty. Arms and legs are snapped; faces are bruised and swollen. Flesh is sliced with knives or punctured with drills; genitals are singed with electric prods. In some cases the bodies are unrecognisable, sprinkled with lime or chewed by wild animals. All have a gunshot wound in the head.
Thats the way they do it, in the citadel of jerks! Kashmiri recalcitrant s kindly take note.

On the last thread someone was in awe of wondering about the perceived inroads that im the dim made in these elections.
Correct me if I am wrong but IMHO he failed in these elections. Even with the big support of the pakjabi army and ISI he was not able to gain much from that state. His pro-taliban posture also failed him. Just my 2 paise.

PS - for how long dus percenti can be the president of the banana republic and extract his pound of ham after these elections ?

Rajdeep, that was me, though I disagree with the phrase "in awe". Sure, he had establishment backing, but not heavy rigging like Mushy's party got in 2003. My point was that from being a political non-entity, he has managed to make himself at least somewhat relevant politically, and he has time on his side.

Khappe Khappe Khappe;Coming Sindh Baloch Union

Sindh-Balochistan relations
Sindhi people in general and Sindhi nationalists in particular have always supported the struggle of the Baloch people for their national rights “Obscured truths and established lies” (Daily Times, March 17, 2013) is one of his many insightful and inciting articles. Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur has been writing about the national rights and different aspects of the nationalist movement of Balochistan. The article is related to the all-important and so-sensitive issue of missing persons, the contents of which can hardly be denied or disputed. However, it contains some comments that touch another important issue, that of the relationship between the nationalist movements of Sindh and Balochistan.
. During the Pakistani state’s 65 years, both have remained at the receiving end, and hence comrades-in-arms in the struggle for their respective national rights. Sometimes, their mode of struggle has differed but the goal has always been the same.Culturally, Sindhis and the Baloch are very close to each other. They share many values and have impacted each other’s way of life. A very popular cap, which is said to have originated from Balochistan, has acquired the name of Sindh topi. Ethnically, both are very much intermingled. A very large portion of Sindh’s population consists of ethnic Baloch tribes, but which, over the years, have become an integral part of the Sindhi nation, and many of whom are a source of pride for this hospitable land, like the family of Mr Talpur. Similarly, there are ethnic Sindhis in large numbers living in Balochistan, but politically, they are a part of the Baloch nation, Jams of Lasbela being only one example. Very popular nationalist Baloch leaders like Sardar Attaullah Mengal (and his sons), Nawab Mohammad Akbar Bugti and Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch spoke Sindhi as fluently as any ethnic Sindhi, and are as popular in Sindh as any native. No need to divulge the details of the very popular folk story of Sassi and Punnu.I accept and acknowledge that we the Sindhi nationalists may not have done much and spoken loudly for our Baloch brothers as the severity of the situation might have demanded. But, sorry to say, it is not correct that we “did not say a word in protest at their killings.” Almost all the nationalist parties of Sindh have condemned the brutal and gruesome acts of state agencies and expressed their solidarity with the victims at different times through different platforms, such as political rallies, seminars and conferences, etc. Sindhi writers have written, and continue to write, extensively on the issue of missing persons. I myself have gone to the camps for missing persons more than once, participated in many demonstrations and rallies, spoken in seminars and conferences organised to highlight the kidnapping and murders and demanded an end to the military operation in Balochistan. Sindhi nationalists in particular have always supported the struggle of the Baloch people for their national rights. When Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto dismissed the government of Balochistan and started a military operation in 1973, it was Jeay Sindh Students Federation (I was one of its members) under the guidance of Sain G M Syed that had observed a week of protest throughout Sindh and sent telegrams of support to the then leader of the Awami National Party Balochistan, Mir Ahmed Nawaz Bugti. When Nawab Akbar Bugti was murdered by the military regime of General Pervez Musharraf, Sindhi people treated this as an attack on their own, and the whole of Sindh rose in protest. Same was the situation when the BNP General Secretary Habib Jalib Baloch was assassinated.
Now let us have a look at the other side of the story. No doubt, Balochistan is treated very badly by the Pakistani state. But the treatment received by Sindh has not been much better either. Yet the response of our Baloch comrades has been of total ‘silence’. We never hear any voice from any corner of Balochistan in support of the struggle of Sindhi people for their national rights or in protest against the atrocities of the state institutions. On the contrary we continue hearing claims over national sovereignty and geographical unity of Sindh. It is said that the people of the Baloch origin living in Sindh for centuries are not Sindhis, but Baloch, though the people themselves inseparably identify with the Sindhi nation. Sometimes, a claim is made over Karachi, and sometimes Jacobabad is declared to be a part of Balochistan. Some friends even go to the extent of claiming that the ‘River Indus is the border between Sindh and Balochistan’.Despite all such provocative professions and divisive declarations we have never gone public as we think that we, Sindhis and Baloch, are sailing in the same boat. We need cooperation, not confrontation. As said earlier, being neighbours for thousands of years, we may have some differences or even disputes but then no two neighbours are immune from such controversies. We can address them in a friendlier atmosphere when we both are masters of our own destinies. Currently, we should concentrate more on commonalities and try to find more ways to support each other in our struggle for emancipation. And none other but Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur, owing to his background, is best suited to play his role in bridging

Nawaz accepts Singh’s India visit invitation: Indian newspaper
NEW DELHI: In his very first interview to an Indian newspaper after sweeping the general elections, Pakistan's would-be prime minister Nawaz Sharif, reached out to India on Monday, promising that he would not allow his country to export terror. Sharif,62, also pitched for enhanced trade ties. In a bold move, he also assured India he would rein in the militant elements.Below are some excerpts from a telephonic interview from Lahore, in which he also accepted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's invitation to visit India.
Q: What is your biggest challenge?
Nawaz Sharif: The toughest challenge will be to revive the economy. My priority is to pull the country out of the economic crisis and if we are able to do that, we will be able to solve a lot of problems.I am glad that I will be taking over from a government that was allowed to complete its term. That's important in Pakistan where democracy has to be strengthened. I have been PM twice before and both times I was not allowed to complete my term.
Q: India remains very concerned about terror being exported from Pakistani soil. What assurances, if any, can you give New Delhi?
NS: You know my policy on terrorism. Let there be no doubt that we will not allow terrorism to be exported to India from Pakistani soil.We made great progress in 1999 with the signing of the Lahore Declaration before I was forced into exile. And let's not forget that Pakistan too is suffering at the hands of terrorists.
Terrorism is the legacy of Pervez Musharraf. Dictatorship breeds radicalism and terrorism, and terrorism is a direct outcome of Musharraf's policies. He assured India he would not allow Pakistani soil to be used to export terror but it was a false promise.Let me tell you - and through you, the citizens of India - that we want friendship with India and will not allow any more Kargils and Mumbai-like terror attacks. Terrorism can only hurt both India and Pakistan.
Q: You are giving India a huge assurance, Mr Sharif, but the army has to be on board any peace process.
NS: The army will be on board.I don't think there is any opposition from the army to better ties with India. Yes, during Musharraf's time there were problems, but Musharraf acted in his personal capacity. The army is a professional organisation.
Q: You say this despite being thrown out in a coup by General Musharraf. He did have the support of the army when he deposed you.
NS: The army was not in favour of what Musharraf did. I am confident that the army will be on board as far as the peace process between our two countries is concerned. I assure you that I am committed to resolving all outstanding issues including Kashmir. The Lahore Declaration of 1999 is a good starting point. I am determined to restore the authority of the PM's office. The army will report to the PM, who is the boss.
Q: In spite of the PPP government wanting to grant India the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status, it couldn't because of pressure from right-wing parties, Jamaat ud Dawah and its military arm, Lashkar-e-Taiba. Will you be able to overcome that pressure?
NS: I am in favour of granting the MFN status and promoting trade and business ties to the benefit of both nations. Economy and trade are my favourite subjects.Wait and watch…we will come out with bold economic policies.

Q: But what about the jehadi opposition including from the Lashkar-e-Taiba?
NS: We have enormous problems at hand but my priority is to promote business relations. I am confident we will be able to carry everybody along, including the jehadi elements which have to be reined in.Don't worry on this count.
Q: Dr Manmohan Singh has invited you to visit India. Will you be coming soon?
NS: It will be a pleasure to visit India. Manmohan Singh spoke to me and I am grateful to him for extending warm wishes. I look forward to meeting him.Let me put it like this: We have to meet and work towards a peaceful and prosperous south Asia.

Anybody US dislikes can be a better option for India. Of course dealing with pakibarians one has to be careful (if one cannot fence them out and unfortunately they are our neighbours now and split from us and gained ind. from hindustan on 14 aug 1947).

Guys hate to quote an abject cowboy clown like Ronald Regan that Amercians worship, but while Nawaz Sheriff's statements are welcome, one can trust but verify.

I don't know about you guys, but I do sense some sincerity in his tone. But his claim that terrorism against India is only because of the legacy of MushRat, his nemesis, and not because it has been the official TSP state policy, must be taken with a pinch of salt.

But I like the guy for telling it like it on MushRat. At least on that count, I thank Nawaz Sheriff. He has shamed 3 sets of people:

1. USA and its western lackeys for feting this f$%^ing terrorist b@stard on lawns of the white house lawn, offering him a podium in the west to puke his anti-India bile, and then gratuitously asking India to make piss with an evil scum like him

2. MMS & has shameless gang for de-facto negotiating away Kashmir with this devil. Recall the 4 point surrender document over Kashmir that MMS was willing sign on

3. Indian media and elite who have no self respect nor respect for India in the manner in which they fawn over this diseased rat.

Zardari had sincerity in his tone too. We had mumbai, the customary bomb blasts and soldier beheadings.

Lack of people with sincere intentions is not the reason India-Pak relations have not moved forward.

Sharif is using India card to get back to TSPA. We should be careful dealing with this diabolic person. All Sharif's thearics of pleasing India is most likely indended to get a truce out from the army. He is also a TTP ally. So basically he has formed good relationship with the entities disliked by the army. Why?

What matters is what TSPA does. Will Badmash be able to tame the army? Answer is most likely negative, but we will see.

The speed with which the US has "welcomed" the Indo-Pak PM's visits-to-be ,indicate that the entire show is being stagemanaged by Uncle Sam.What is such a contrast is the cautious welcome that Pak's largest patron and supplier of N-weapons and missiles,China, has given to the new regime. What is that old adage? "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread"!

So does our court clown,"snake-oil" Singh, gathers his garments and starts packing them for his date with destiny,to the Sherrif's swearing in? Miffed and sulking we are told, our mewing kitten looks for tea and sympathy from the "Loin of the Poonjab"! Godmother plans to say nice things about him in a UPA-2 anniversary speech.

NS's pronouncements on piss with India are going to fall flat on the face.

Pakistan Army's livelihood is a state of war with India - that is sustenance for these buggers.
They will promptly do the following:
1. Threaten NS and ask him to cool off
2. Pull the strings with Shahbaz Sharif - both the sharif brothers were giving big grants from the Punjab State government to the jamat-ud-dawa, the highcourt judges were releasing terrorists under collusion with the brothers.
3. To make MMS and India back off, there is a very high chance of a terror strike.

There will be a likely build up of atmospherics, a visit by NS to Dilli / Agra with Undie TV talking about the menu that the two leaders are going to be eating etc etc, Wimmen TV anchors panting, swooning and getting orgasms by the minute.
And in the end everything Khalaas - nothing will happen on the ground. More people to people contact, which the ISI will use to push in sleeper cells, terrorists, recce teams etc etc.

Another example of MMS's immaturity - the across LOC trading in J&K has resulted in Indian traders making losses because the Pakis can't or won't pay up, so no trade happening. Already trade via Wagah is getting bigger. People need to use Google earth and see the HUGE trading area that India has built at Wagah.

What India needs to watch out for: IPI pipeline - this will give the keys to the Pakis - so need to watch out for this. MMS does not have the mandate to change borders so not much worry. But again watch out for reviving Siachen. Another thing MMS might want to do is on Sikh pilgrimage issues to Pakistani gurudwaras and access to sikh historical religious sites by Indians.

The cricket cheat Imran Khan has taken his trouncing at the polls in a most unsportsmanlike manner. He has accused others of rigging the elections, which from all available info. has been broadly seen by the international community as as free and fair as one can expect in Pak,despite bombings, kidnappings, etc. The Sherrif of Pak has now called upon him to accept defeat like a sportsman, but we know only too well that Imran is anything but a fair sportsman, believing that "all's fair in love and war",but only when he is on the winning side!

The Sherrif has been quick off the block to embarrass our very own zero Dr.Singh, inviting him for his swearing in. The demeaning manner in which Dr.Singh has hailed his victory, devoid of any self-respect,congratulating the Sherrif while the counting was still going on and inviting him to India, shows that our beloved PM apart from his servile attitude, throws protocol to the winds. Why,even the Chinese-Pak's "all-weather friend", have been more circumspect, waiting for the result to be announced in congratulating the winner. They haven't leapt to their feet in competition with India in inviting the Paki PM to Beijing! Dr.Singh and his quislings will now go all out to barter, nay hand over to the Sherrif whatever he wants before the mendicant of snake-oil departs from the scene forever, but not before he makes one last attempt to obtain his ig-Nobel peace prize which Uncle Sam has held out to him like a dangling carrot before a donkey.

As Ramanna says,we must be very watchful for the ususal suspects, termites and vermin, who will now swarm out of the woodwork heralding another "piss in our time"!

Pakistan election winner Nawaz Sharif tells rival Imran Khan to stop sledging

Prime minister-to-be says former national cricket captain, defeated in the polls, needs to 'show the sportsman's spirit'

It is not known when Pakistan's next prime minister last strode on to the lush cricket pitch outside the front door of his luxurious home to wield a bat.

But after an election with no shortage of tired cricket metaphors, Nawaz Sharif could not resist picking a sporting theme to chide his most tenacious political opponent, the captain of the national team that won the World Cup in 1992.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, he said Imran Khan needed to "show the sportsman's spirit" and pipe down about allegations of rigging in last Saturday's election that have enraged Khan's youthful supporters.

The EU election observer mission broadly praised the elections on Monday, but said Taliban violence had "unbalanced the playing field" in some places. Nawaz himself said the election had been "by and large fair".

Many of Khan's supporters were shell-shocked by the failure of their Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI) to sweep to power, which instead is projected to win 32 seats when all the votes are tallied, as compared with the 124 won by Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. That number will allow Sharif to govern without coalition partners.

Large crowds of PTI supporters held demonstrations on the streets of Lahore and Karachi on Monday, demanding re-polling and expressing enormous disappointment at the outcome.

Sharif, meanwhile, makes no attempt to hide his vast wealth, made during a business career that inevitably attracted a slew of corruption allegations, and on Monday he cheerfully opened up his lavish Lahore estate, which resembles an American country club, to a group of foreign journalists.

The acres of immaculate gardens are home to peacocks and lions – ornamental lions – almost everywhere you look. A pair of stuffed big cats, the party's emblem, stand guard at the entrance of a huge reception room, where Sharif answered questions on the long list of challenges awaiting him.

On the subject of Pakistan's relationship with the US and the deeply unpopular air strikes launched by CIA drones in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, Sharif said they were "challenging our sovereignty". But he will not be ordering the drones to be shot down, as Khan promised.

Instead, he said: "We will sit with our American friends and we will certainly talk with them on this issue."

He has been accused of turning a blind eye to vicious sectarian extremist groups in his home province of Punjab, which the PML-N has controlled for the last five years.

And he rejected the idea that the left-leaning and secular rivals to PML-N were wiped out because an onslaught of Taliban violence prevented them from voting. They failed, he said, because this was "a performance-related election" and they did not deliver while in office.

Nonetheless, tackling militancy and extremism would be crucial, he said, because it was hurting the economy – the prime concern of the PML-N, a party of businessmen.

He also promised to look into the expulsion from Pakistan on election day of Declan Walsh, the New York Times' Islamabad bureau chief.

Walsh, a former long-serving Guardian correspondent, was thrown out of the country at three days' notice with no explanation beyond a two-sentence letter accusing him of mysterious "undesirable activities".

Sharif is committed to sending the generals back to barracks, despite first entering politics under the tutelage of the former military dictator Zia-ul-Haq in the 1980s.

He fell out of love with the military after his last government was abruptly terminated in 1999 by Pervez Musharraf, his army chief at the time, who went on to rule Pakistan for nine years.

Invited on Monday to publicly slap down the military establishment, Sharif played it safe, saying he had "never had a problem with the army" and that the 1999 coup was the work of Musharraf alone.Sharif was far happier answering questions from the large contingent of journalists from India, with which Pakistan has fought three major wars since 1947.

He said he wanted to renew the diplomatic charm offensive he was pursuing before he was deposed and sent into exile by Musharraf.

When asked whether he would invite Manmohan Singh, India's prime minister, to his oath-taking ceremony he said he would be happy to."What is the sentiment in India about the election [in Pakistan]?" he asked one journalist, knowing Indians have been closely monitoring his bold calls for peace between the warring countries.

"People have been extremely welcoming of your victory because they see you as an old friend," the journalist replied. Sharif smiled

...but in indecent haste, even before the counting was over!

We did something stupid in the Maldives too, announcing our support for the winner ibarely before the dust had settled n a controversial election. Why we can't wait for the official result to be announced, see if there are no grounds for doubt of the victory, the report from our embassy/HC and then with due dignity and self respect, congratulate the winner.

In the cae of Pak,so soon after the Sarabjit murder, the earlier beheadings of our troops and the issue of 26/11 still an open wound with Pak making no sign of repentence whatsoever, cosseting the guilty who continue their anti-Indian tirades while on Pak soil,is an insult to every right thinking Indian.Far from visiting Pak,the PM should instead openly say that until the perpetrators of 26/11 are handed over and the guilty who murdered Sarabjit are brought to book, clear cessation of cross-border terrorism, and the arrest of individuals and groups within Pak who plot and plan terror attacks, it will be impossible for any Indian PM to visit Pak.

The manner in which the Paki retd. top brass spoke on a TV channel, openly saying that Pak had "other options" if India did not come around on J&K,was a shocking admission of the complicity and mentality of the Paki uniformed tribe.During the Sherrif's last innings,he was declared out by Gen. Mush-a-rat ,who also went to war with India at Kargil, allegedly giving him scant info about the whole enterprise. What chance will the current crop of Paki "tribesmen" give him in his third innings? he is a crony capitalist to the core and will in time to come be easy meat for the fig-leaf of an anti-corruption coup.

Another TSP cliche that has an impact on India and needs a course correction is this. The TSP ISI and army are not some separate entity from Mars or some other planet. So while technically true, namely Nawaz Sheriff wants to make amends (assuming he is sincere), but the generals and ISI don't, reality is that compulsive hostility against India, is in the jugular vein of Pakijabis, to the man on the street. So the correct characterization is that while Nawz Sheriff might be sincere, but as a leader of Pakijabis, he needs to bring on board the majority of his Pakijabi compatriots. The general and ISI only represent the views, feelings, and aspirations of the Pakijabis at large.

All Nawaz needs to do to improve relations between India and Pakistan is to disband the Pakistani Army, or to break it up into multiple legions, all reporting directly to the various Mayors of various cities and townships.

i cant remember where, but i read somewhere (perhaps in shashi tharoor's book?) about an interaction with nawaz sharief. he was having a normal discussion about politics somewhere in the west with an indian person (perhaps tharoor) before going on stage to address some group of 'south asians'. he then went on stage - spouted strong kashmiri azadi and pakistan khappey style stuff and then when he came off stage again said words to the effect of 'don't mind yaar, just politics onlee...' and then resumed his rational conversation...

His task will be made easier with an external state support. Next time, there is any hanky panky from TSPA/ISI, Indian army she deal a telling blow and discredit them in the eyes of their own people. Then some one like Nawaz Sheriff, if he is sincere can take on TSPA/ISI. Once again, assuming Nawaz Sheriff made the statements he did yesterday on his own, and was sincere and not tactical, I would fear for his life, some other rabid Pakijabi could do a Salman Taseer on him with help from ISI.
