This is a big strike. It appears to me that the PA is protecting the Haqqanis themselves at the cost of the Haqqani foot soldiers.A US drone strike killed at least 17 people in Pakistan's restive border region early on Wednesday, Pakistani security officials said, in the biggest such attack this year, and the second since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took office.
Most of those killed were fighters for the Haqqani network, according to three Taliban commanders and security officials.
Two missiles hit a house near the main market in Miranshah, the provincial capital of the tribal region of North Waziristan. The region is considered a Taliban stronghold.
Many were wounded in the attack, local tribesman Kaleemullah Dawar said, but rescuers delayed for fear of falling victim to a second attack, a common tactic with drone strikes.
"It was not possible for the people to start rescue work for some time, as the drones were still flying over the area," Dawar said.
ISLAMABAD : Pakistani Taliban said on Wednesday that its militants have increased attacks on security forces to avenge the killing of the group’s deputy chief, Wali-ur-Rehman Mehsud.
A day after the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) confirmed Mehsud’s death, its spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan, announced that TTP will take revenge, claiming that the Pakistani authorities were sharing information with the US to facilitate drone strikes.
Ehsan also withdrew TTP’s offer to hold dialogues with the new government
Cheers“We will keep on targeting the security forces during the revenge attacks,” he said.
“The political government has yet to demonstrate its power and to take bold and independent decisions,” the TTP spokesperson said.
Ehsan claimed that the new government has no power to take decisions which could end the bloodshed.
“How can we talk to the government if it does not exercise powers and the security establishment is still powerful and takes decision,” he alleged.

I apologize for being insensitive, but rape is against a person's will, when a person is dead, how can the person agree or deny to participate in any act?, I find the above statement odd.The police suspected that the body was taken out from the grave with the intention of rape.

Not at all. Usually, the question is asked why India produces so many world class batsmen, and why Pakistan so many world class fast bowlers. There was an article in Cricinfo last month that asked precisely that:Yogi_G wrote: 2. If reporting cricket doom and gloom then it has to be "India has no genuine fast bowlers onleee ". I have also heard many Indians also say the same in spite of Srinath, Sreesanth, Ishanth, Aaron, Yadav etc.
Here's some food for thought for those pak-pasand dhimmis who resort to this equal - equal BS to kiss up to the pakis (cricinfo is full of these types). If the pakis have such super-duper world class bowlers that are above all, how come they haven't won all their games and demolished the opposite teams for paltry scores? Let down by their batsmen, some might say. Then, why have the opposing batsmen scored double and triple centuries against their world class bowlers? Remember Sehwag? And then, why do they need biased umpires? If they have world class bowlers, why do they have to resort to ball tampering and fix the results of the games they play? Its all a mind game the pakis play. If wishes were horses....MurthyB wrote:Usually, the question is asked why India produces so many world class batsmen, and why Pakistan so many world class fast bowlers. Pakistan — no country for foreign journalists [ Two Indian Journalists kicked out of Pakistan]
After having lived in Islamabad for five and a half years, Rezaul Hasan Lashkar had to pack up and leave in just a little over two weeks. His sin - he was an Indian and a journalist reporting on Pakistan. And one hot day in the middle of June he was informed that his presence was no longer acceptable to someone, somewhere - through a phone call and a letter.
Anita Joshua of The Hindu - who was asked to leave shortly after the elections (but before the new government took charge) while New York Times' Declan Walsh was bundled out a day after May 11, his notice period even shorter than the Indians.
The story of these three proves that Pakistan is fast turning into not just one of the most dangerous countries for journalists but also one of the most inhospitable.
Firing, ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts from across the border have increased and the situation along the LoC is tense, the Army said on Wednesday. "The situation on the border (with Pakistan) is tense but under control," general officer commanding (GOC) 16 Corps, Lt Gen DS Hooda, told reporters here.
"Firing (from across the border) has increased in the past two to three months. Ceasefire violations have increased. The situation on the border is tense," he said. The GOC was replying to a volley of questions on the situation along LoC on the sidelines of a function to remember Brigadier Mohd Usman who attained martyrdom while defending the country during 1947-48 operations in Naoshera sector.
"Whatever you say on the ground is true. Infiltration attempts are going on. Two attempts — one in Keri (Rajouri) and another in Poonch have been foiled recently," Lt Gen Hooda said.
"Infiltrators are now attacking our security forces, targeting our posts more openly as they are desperate to infiltrate. "But in Kashmir, they are able to infiltrate because of heavy snowfall which damages the fencing erected for checking infiltration," he said. "Attack on security forces to inflict more and more casualties is the new strategy of infiltrators," the Army officer said.
ISLAMBAD:
The highest project approval body is set to approve over Rs1.4 trillion worth of projects today (Thursday), including three nuclear power plants of 2,400 megawatts capacity which will be built in Karachi with Chinese assistance. In total, six projects will be considered by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for approval, according to Planning Commission officials. The body is headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.All these projects have one thing in common – Chinese assistance – and are being approved at a time when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in China to deepen economic relations with the world’s second largest economy.
The body will also consider the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS) project for approval, which will also be established with Chinese support. The estimated cost of this project is Rs19.7 billion, including a Rs15.8 billion foreign loan component. For the current year, Rs631 million has been allocated for the project. The satellite will be launched in 2015-16 and carry a high-resolution electro-optical payload with designed service life of five years, according to Suparco website.
Ecnec is expected to approve Karachi Coastal Power project, which is sponsored by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). The estimated cost of this 1,100MW nuclear power plant is Rs958.8 billion including Rs692 billion foreign loan.
This project will also be built with Chinese assistance. For the current year, the government has allocated Rs6 billion in the budget for land acquisition.Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-I (Kanupp-I) and Kanupp-II may also be considered for approval by Ecnec. To keep these projects secret, the government has not added them in the meeting’s agenda, sources said. Kanupp-II will have 1,000MW power generation capacity. The agreements for implementation of these two projects were signed during the tenure of the PPP government, but later on they were put on hold indefinitely, sources said.Ecnec is also taking up for approval the 969MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project with revised cost estimates. Started with an estimated cost of Rs84 billion, the revised cost is now Rs274.9 billion, according to PC officials.China had stopped processing a $448 million loan for this project due to reservations about two other projects – Safe City Islamabad and a communications project. But with the change in government in Pakistan, chances of finalisation of the loan have brightened as premier Sharif is expected to take up this matter with the Chinese authorities during his ongoing trip, sources said.Ecnec will also consider for approval the Nandipur Power Plant of 425MW, which is another case of mismanagement by the last government. Against initial cost of Rs22 billion, the revised cost stands at Rs57.4 billion. The government has added demurrage charges worth Rs1.7 billion to the cost that Chinese contractors will claim from Pakistan.
So, three more Chinese nuclear plants, Karachi Coastal, Kanupp-I & Kanupp-II. There is some nomenclature confusion. I thought Kanupp-I has been in operation for a long time (CANDU reactor) and Kanupp-II was already under construction. So, why do they appear as new projects ?
Even the dead arent safe in pakilandLAHORE: In a shocking incident, unidentified men allegedly sexually assaulted a girl's dead body, digging it out from a grave, hours after her burial in Gujranwala district of Pakistan's Punjab province.
Police said the girl, a grade-VI student, was electrocuted while taking a bath in her house in Qila Dedar Singh on Tuesday and she was subsequently buried at a graveyard in Gujranwala district, about 80 kilometres from here, later in the evening.
Early this morning when the members of the girl's family went to the graveyard to offer fateha (prayer) they found her body lying near the grave.
They held a demonstration and blocked the road for several hours to protest against the desecration of the body.
Senior police officers reached there and assured the family that the culprits would not escape punishment.
The police also took the gravedigger into custody.
WASHINGTON: The Obama administration has requested $1.16 billion for aid to Pakistan in the 2014 financial year — almost half of the $2.6bn it spent in 2012 and a quarter of the $4.5bn it spent in 2010, says a report released on Tuesday. The military aid also goes down to $397 million from over $1.2bn in 2010.The cuts, however, may not have a major impact on the Pakistani economy as the country received an estimated $12.8bn from July 2012 to May 2013.Pakistani diplomats in Washington, when asked for comments, said it would be wrong to interpret the cuts as indicating deterioration in US-Pakistan ties.
They said the United States was aware of Pakistan’s critical role in ensuring peace and stability in South Asia and this reflected in US Secretary of State John Kerry’s decision to visit Islamabad on July 28.The diplomats pointed out that the US planned to withdraw most of its combat troops from Afghanistan by 2014, which further enhanced Pakistan’s role in ensuring a peaceful transition in Afghanistan. They noted that Washington had also helped Islamabad in dealing with a major energy crisis and the 2010 floods. They said the Congressional Research Service, which had reported the aid cuts, also noted that like previous US administrations, the Obama administration continued to support a “stable, democratic, and prosperous” Pakistan. The administration believes that Pakistan plays a “critical role” in South Asia and also in US counter-terrorism efforts, the report said.In the Foreign Military Financing, $300m for Pakistan would enhance the counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism capabilities of its security forces, and would encourage US-Pakistan military-to-military engagement, the report said. The Obama administration has also requested $17.87m under non-proliferation, anti-terrorism, demining and related programmes to provide training to build Pakistan’s capacity to detect, deter, and respond to terrorist threats and improve border security.
KARACHI: Pakistan cricket team masseur was sent back from the ICC Champions Trophy after being accused of sexually harassing a female worker at the London hotel, where the players stayed during the event, a source has claimed.
According to details the masseur Malang Ali was sent back with the excuse that his wife was ill in Pakistan.
CheersInterestingly, some five years back when the ICC Youth World Cup was held in Malaysia the same masseur had been accused of stealing cash and valuables from a player's room.
"The irony was that even through the team management reported him to the board on the basis of CCTV footage in the team hotel, Malang after a period of suspension was again back working with the national team because of his close ties with some players who have backed him to be with the team for a while now," the source said.

Pakistan’s latest Population being 184 Million (It is 210 Million, but that is another story) the Female Population of Pakistan would be about 90 Million. One Third of 90 Million would be a minimum of 30 Million Women who go through a rape or attempted rape at least Once in a Life Time. The news for the conscious mind of our society is that there IS life after rape. Almost 30% of women in Pakistan go through a rape or attempted rape at least once in their lives. They do survive. The pain stays, but they go on with their lives. PARIS : First cousins who marry run twice the risk of having a child with genetic abnormalities, according to the findings of a study in the English city of Bradford, published Friday in The Lancet.
About 37 per cent of marriages among people of Pakistani origin in the study involved first cousins, compared to less than one per cent of “British unions”, said the researchers.
“Thirty-one per cent of all anomalies in children of Pakistani origin could be attributed to consanguinity” or marriage between first cousins, said the study.
One Billion in 50 Countries. Not that Bad!“More than one billion people worldwide currently (live) in communities where consanguineous marriages are commonplace.”
