The photo is horizontally inverted.
A common thing in the past when film was used to capture the pictures. You use the film from the other side to imprint the image on the photo paper, and you'll get a mirror image.

The left hand salute by the officer is the proof that this is a mirror image.

PS: India's Shakti test photos released to the media were also horizontally inverted - mirror images.

That's because of his weird eyes IMO.

Those eyes could well belong to a rapist, a courtier, a killer or a dancer from Meena bazaar.

So you're looking at Zia's eyes and wondering if he's going to rape you, pay you an elaborate compliment, cut your throat or sashay about in the opening sequence of a mujra.....

meanbhile, lt gen haroon aslam quits

Chief of Logistics Staff (CLS) Lieutenant-General Haroon Aslam, the senior-most general in the Pakistani army, on Wednesday resigned a day after he was superseded by his two juniors who were made the new Army chief and the Chairman Joint Chief of the Staff Committee.

Aslam has sent his resignation letter to Defence Ministry from the General Headquarters (GHQ), a senior government official said.

“He (Aslam) has opted for early retirement. This is an established practice,” the official said. Haroon Aslam was working as the principal staff officer (PSO) to General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and was the senior-most officer after him. Lt Gen Aslam had also skipped the farewell dinner hosted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday for the outgoing Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Drone strike kills 3 in North Waziristan
A drone strike in North Waziristan early Friday killed three, Express News reported.
The unmanned aircraft fired two missiles in Miranshah town at a time when many in the country are protesting against the CIA drone campaign.
The timing is further controversial as the strike comes on the eve of Pakistan Army’s change of command ceremony where Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will hand the baton to his successor General Raheel Sharif.

Yes...He was the diwan. ZAB was also a Shia. Even if he hosted the OIC summit with Saudi blessings in 1973, he was still not green enough for the sunnis. This gave Zia the crucial opening to execute Bhutto. With Saudi blessings....western sanctions are meaningless for this country.

Does anyone know what if the new C-in-C is a Sunni or a Shia?

A shia would never carry enough weight to carry out a coup. A key reason why Kiyani never dared to step in Mushy's shoes. It is not ethnicity but denomination that is key for the Sharif brothers. They should promote Shias to corp commander positions.

http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-9-216977-Army-chief-or-soap-opera

Granted we have our history of coups. But on the face of which incoming chief can the country’s future be divined? Zia didn’t look coup material when he was chosen army chief by Bhutto. Nor did Musharraf look the part when a cabal of intriguers whispered his name in Nawaz Sharif’s ear.

No one is born a coup-maker. Circumstances maketh the man and the moment. Musharraf, egged on by God knows which strategic genius, went into Kargil and that’s where his troubles with the then government began. But, and this is worth remembering, when the army command finally revealed all to a clueless prime minister at a briefing in Ojhri Camp, Rawalpindi, all that came to the PM’s mind was to praise the excellence of the sandwiches placed thoughtfully before him. True or false, this at least is the legend.

This much is certain, Musharraf was asked no tough questions, much less put on the mat. The time for cashiering him was then, not six months later when the move boomeranged and everything was turned upside down. But when you are out of your depth, you are almost asking for trouble…because it is your cluelessness which plants ideas in the minds of your generals.

It’s like Bhutto in 1977. When during the anti-rigging agitation he started inviting his generals to his cabinet meetings, they sensed his weakness and started exchanging glances with each other (Maulana Kausar Niazi has a good take on this in his ‘Aur Line Kut Gaye’…and the line was cut). From then on the coup that came was virtually a foregone conclusion.

Wonder why police weren't cooperating in heaven on peace lands. Maybe they knew that minimal criteria of 4 witnesses can't be met and that would trouble for police, the girl and her family for it's now up to girl to prove her case?

WTH is a cracker attack? :-o
Cracker attack targets Karachi police station
KARACHI: A cracker attack on Landhi police station damaged motorcycles parked at the premise on late Thursday night.

DIG East Zone Munir Sheikh told media that the attack might be a reaction to police crackdown in which several criminals were held.

He said that a cracker was hurled at the police station located in Landhi-4 area. The officer, however, said that fortunately the attack caused no loss of life. The Bomb Disposal Squad also rushed to the police station.

CRamS,

Nothing really new is revealed in the video. There wasn't really a Q&A session, so he gets away with talking in generalities rather than having to give details.

The first part is about his prior experiences in other countries before his assignment to Pakistan.

For me, the most interesting part was his synopsis that organizations - groups other than the Paki government were keeping the people - country going since those running the government were there for the patronage (graft - corruption) rather than to serve the people. Since he didn't have to answer any questions, he was able to skip naming those groups - organizations. If he had started naming those groups, a few in the audience would have realized that those are the same organizations spreading hatred and religious extremism throughout Pakistan.

X Posted.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s brand new Chief Uniformed Jihadi, General Raheel Sharif , assumes office with a resume burnishing attribute that lives up to the motto of the Pakistan Army namely “Iman, Taqwa, Jihad fi Sabilillah” or translated “Faith, Piety and Jihad in the path of Allah”, of having lived less than a kilometre away from the last residence one of the world’s most famous deceased un-uniformed Jihadi Mohammadden Terrorists, Osama Bin Laden.

Interview of our former ambassador and last Consul General to Karachi, Mr. Rajiv Dogra :

New Pakistan army chief lived less than a kilometre from Osama in Abbottabad: Rajiv Dogra

Well, I expect a two-pronged "I told you so" response.

The first prong: The pure have always said that infidels were the descendants of apes and pigs, IIRC.
The second prong: We always knew that the religion of the pure was scientifically aligned.

The pure have always called the Munafiqs and the Kafirs "Suar ka baccha" or "Suar ki aulaad" (Pig's son / progeny).
This is one of the most common slurs/abuses that is thrown around in the muslim world.

"Kutte Kameene!" - Islamic hate dogs.

Not much new content as Joseph points out. The ambassador wanted the USG to coddle Pakistan more (as a long term project) but apparently the US military's "short-term" goals of counter-terrorism superseded.

What baffles me is that these experienced foreign service officers, having spent years in Pakistan, have only one answer to deal with Pakistan - more bribe.

Nothing baffling about this, these ambassador types are smart articulate guys who have US interests first and foremost. And when they deal with their client TSP, they hear only one thing: deliver India. Now, some of them would like to, some of them may not, but most want TSP to transcend its India obsession, and be a normal country with which they can have a normal relationship, along with India. But for TSP, normal means negating the idea of TSP, which is a non starter. They want nothing short of domination. So, US, whose interests require that neither India nor TSP to dominate and win outright, is trying tits best to bribe, cajole, persuade TSP to behave and not self destruct (and take India down with it). Because as I said, at the end of the day, its not in US interests to dump TSP and let India dominate as it surely would if TSP is not propped up to punch above its weight visa vi India. Uneven confirmed this in my conversations with him.

CRamS,
That is a good attempt at trying to make people understand.
I offer a simpler one, my 2 cents.

There are basic structural faults in Pakistan's power structure. The Pak army won't give up power, and until they are in power, Pakistan is doomed.
These US ambassadors know Pakistan is too far gone down the line to improve. Now the question is, what makes their job easier? Good relations or bad relations with the Fauj?
Each time the GI Joes smack the Pak Fauj, or IA slaps them around, there is a blowback by the Pakis against massa.

So zimble onlee, keep bribing these bozos. The fauj and its crore commanders are there for the money, not for battle - everyone knows that. Many of the Islamists are in it for the money, women, the only requirement is that these 'delicate' matters need to be conducted behind closed doors. These things coming out into the open, is not good for 'Sawab' you see.

So every ambassador will wink and say, give more 'ghoos' to the Pakistanis, knowing fully well that the Faujis, Politicians, Bereaucrats will gobble up everything. Pakistan is not going to improve...
