the escape and arrest is bringing out varying reports.

http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-new ... 45809.aspx
Bihar Police first said Mehar Alam, who was detained by NIA for questioning from Muzaffarpur area a couple of days ago, escaped on Wednesday night from the washroom of a guesthouse where he was putting up.

But NIA officials reportedly contested the police version and said Alam had been cooperating with investigators but did not turn up for questioning on Wednesday as directed.

And when a joint team of NIA and Bihar Police raided the guesthouse where the suspect was putting up, they found he had escaped leaving behind his mobile phone. A diary entry about his detention has been made at the local police station.

But TV reports, not confirmed by police or railway officials, suggested Alam had been arrested from a train at Kanpur on late Thursday evening.
this is idiocy of the highest order...allowing him to escape from bathroom..

why would the NIA need to "raid" the guesthouse....who was guarding the guest house..local bihar police?

the fact that they caught him so soon, IMO clearly means that they thrashed the guy who let him out and got the info on the suspects movement and nabbed him.

this one says he is an "informer" and not a "suspect"

http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/patna ... ear-440012
There are conflicting reports about a man who managed to escape - with apparent ease - on Wednesday from the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the country's top counter-terror agency. The man claimed to have crucial information about Sunday's serial blasts in Patna. He has reportedly been found on a train in Uttar Pradesh this evening.

The National Investigating Agency or NIA claims that because Mehre Alam had not been formally arrested, it's incorrect to say that he escaped.

Mehre Alam, according to the NIA, showed up in Patna and offered to help locate Haider Ali, who is allegedly a senior commander of the terror group Indian Mujahideen and is wanted for Sunday's blasts in which six people died and 83 were injured.

Something odd in the bombs.
- Eighteen were made.
- Seven were set off on Sunday with pretty good timing. Shows good design. Yet police call them crude and unsophisticated!!!
- A few were found later and defused. One of them blew up at the railway station and the officer was injured.
- Looks like different models were used:pzr cooker, belt and so on
- Some pressure cookers were recovered by the police in raids.
- Three teams of two people carried six bombs each.
- They were paid Rs 5000 each to do the job. That means (5000*18 = ~One Lakh)So Tehseen Akhtar module has lots of money too.

Questions:
- The bomber who got injured at the railway station was he paid jihadi or a real suicide bomber?
- How were two people carrying six of these without being noticed?
- How could they emplace all the 18 devices without being foundout? All were placed only Sunday morning.
- Was the Bihar police bandobast so lax at the meeting that all this went on? Did they arrive at the meeting place after chai nashta?
- What has the DGP got to say about this?
- How come such a large explosive making enterprise was not cracked down earlier?
- What is the tamasha of the NIA raiding the village ten times in six months for one accused tehseen (should be called Unseen) Akhtar who still managed to stage the attack?

All this shows there is plenty of material and know how in the region to make such bombs on large scale.

Arrestign Bhatkal did not stop the bomb making spree.

IM preferred mode of attack seems to be the IED mubarrak.

Also IM sources its components exclusively from Gujarat! Eg clocks, plastic container what not all are made in Gujarat.

Either the quality and price are awesome for parts made in Gujarat or its part of plan by their controllers inside and outside India.

I don't understand one thing. Why's no one asking for Nitish's resignation or his government's sacking for failing to protect a rally that celebrates and symbolizes Indian democracy? By failing to provide adequate security, Nitish government has tried to cut the roots of Indian republic. Is this acceptable to our secular media and constitutional authorities? Will this be acceptable if bombs go off in Rahul Gandhi's rally, in say, M.P. (not that I wish it)?

One question. There were initial reports that a bomb was placed under the dais, but later reports do not mention it clearly. What's the real situation in this regard? If they were actually able to place a bomb under the dais, it was a huge security lapse on part of all concerned, including NSG that is responsible for proximate security. Also, a disaster of enormous proportions was somehow averted in such a case!

Why is NIA keeping the suspects in some guest house and not police custody or judicial custody? Does it have anything to do with Shinde's MHO directive on not arresting innocent youth on terror charges?

The suicide bomber theory doesn't make sense at another level. You have blasts at 10/15 minute intervals, supposedly to divert the crowd into a favorable direction so the suicide bomber can approach the dais and take out Modi. Six bombs went off. The first one went off almost two hours before, and the last one went off a full half hour before Modi got on stage. Did they expect Modi to go ahead with the rally in spite of all this? They would need to count on his courage in getting on stage after all that ruckus and a possible stampede, when he had clear forewarning hours beforehand.

The first bomb to go off was at the Railway Station that injured and eventually killed the suicide bomber. It could have scared some of the other planters to walk away leaving the bombs un-triggered and not exploded. That also explains the other explosions going off without waiting for Modi.

If that suicide bomber did not have premature explosion, they had enough time to reach the venue in time for Modi.

A few things to be understood from the reports. The guy was a walk in who had info on "Black Beauty" Haider Ali. So he is not a suspect nor an informant. He was staying in a guest house. Looks like his existence was leaked and he took off.
Now he is arrested on a train to UP.

The NIA should rethink their tactics of leaking info to the press to appear competent, as most likely the guy was threatend by the module members and ran away.

True competence is when they prevent such attacks and not cover up after the attacks,.

So far their track record has been dismal since they were formed in aftermath of 26/11 attack with much fanfare.
In retrospect it looks like their formation was "Much Ado About Nothing"

That is exactly what I am saying. Aren't there institutional procedures against leaking such sensitive information? If I were in that position, I would have even praised the terrorista for their "competence" in making vary sophisticated bombs and make mistakes through over-confidence.

Seriously, this Patna blast handling looks full of confusion. So many discrete source stories, incorrect or half-correct information, unintentional leaks, escapes, dangerous leaks. All this happening, with no one to be held accountable. And this is neither the first time nor the last time. A routine situation.

People spreading falsehoods (ex. Sagarika talking about meat shops in Hyderabad to the brilliant report about wrong timer connection), should not these people be taken to court?

Media's silense on the escape matter is criminal. They are the people who would run nonsense day in and day out about some idiot baba's dream. But can't even report about escape of a terrorist who tried to assassinate a future PM and most popular politician of current time. Aak thoo.

Even international media, that doesn't mind giving lectures to others and were printing some trash in New York Times a day before the Patna rally of BJP, suddenly went radio silence on janaadesh with Narendra Modi and serial bomb blasts at BJP rally.

This is an 'international' miracle. 'International' opinion is suddenly radio silent!

The 'international' media and 'international' opinion needs to be educated about how selective silence and selective chatter is pseudo secular and not civilized at all.

Same Home Minsitry by its inertia allowed the murders of Mrs Gandhi and her son claiming lack of precedent and legal basis.

Reading the Tehelka blog its clear the chairborne warrior source for TOIlet report was giviging Failure Analysis and diagnosis to Ind Muj to not fail next time.

Meanwhile HT reports:

Alam's escape might have tipped off Ali!

There is something seriously wrong with NIA. Even beat cops are better than this.
It was a bad day at work for the National Investigation Agency. A ‘witness’ in the Patna serial blasts fled from the custody of the country’s top anti-terror body only to alert the alleged mastermind it was closing in on.

The escape of Mehre Alam, who the NIA was counting on to lead them to Hyder Ali, a senior Indian Mujahideen man who allegedly planned the serial blasts with the outfit’s ‘operations head’ Tehseen Akhtar, is likely to embarrass the NIA. :((

{Are you crazy? They have no shame. They are doing it on orders.}

Ali, also known as Abdullah, hails from Aurangabad in Bihar but moved to Darbhanga in 2010 where the then IM chief Yasin Bhatkal was setting up a module.

With Akhtar, Ali worked with the Darbhanga module, which is believed to have carried out most of the blasts that followed the Batla House encounter, before being asked to set up the Ranchi cell. He was living in Line Mohalla, Doranda in Ranchi and trained a group of eight men to make bombs and prepare for the blasts.

{All this is to appear to be investigating and in charge. If they knew all this how come they couldn't arrest him!}

Six men from Ranchi set off a series of bombs that rocked the rally venue of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and nearby areas, the police have said. Six people died in the blasts.

{Err it did not rock the rally for it went on as planned. The only thing they rocked is Nikamma and Shinde who was anyway rocking at a dance program later.}

Intelligence and NIA officials say they have enough leads to conclude that it was Ali who led the Sunday terror attack. The NIA, which was handed over the Patna case on Wednesday, has been looking for Ali since 2012 when his name surfaced during investigations into the Darbhanga module of the IM.

{So fearless NIA was looking since 2012 but couldn't find him. Where they looking for him in wrong places or tipping him off?}

Ali used to frequently interact with Alam in Ranchi and sometimes stay with him, an intelligence official familiar with the probe told HT. “So, the NIA had called him in as a witness to try and lure Ali out,” said the officer, who didn't want to be name because of the sensitivity involved in the probe. :rotfl:

{If its so sensitive he shouldnt be speaking. What he is doing is pretending to be working and feeding nonsense to reporters.}

“He told the NIA that Ali was hiding in Mirpur village of Muzaffarpur district and our team was conducting raids there when Alam gave them the slip.”

NIA officials confirmed to HT that Ali was their target.

The NIA issued a statement in the evening confirming Alam was not a suspect but a “witness”. Alam told the NIA team that Ali was training the Ranchi module for months, sources said.

{So if NIA was looking for him since 2012 how come Ali was training the Ranchi module for months? See the logic disconnect?}

He was in touch with Akhtar and the two were planning to create modules in other states so that the IM could recover from Bhatkal’s arrest. Bhatkal was arrested on August 28.

The NIA, Bihar and UP police denied reports that Alam was nabbed in Kanpur in the evening.

The NIA was set up within weeks of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, with the mandate to bring terrorists to justice. It is the only agency that can take over terrorism cases in any part of the country without the concurrence of the state government concerned. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
With so much authority vested in them what has the NIA done since 26/11 attacks? Even that was solved because of the extreme bravery of Late Constable Omble who arrested Kasab. So what did NIA investigate in that instance?
Go for trips to US to talk to Headley! And suppress what he told them.

Its possible that Alam was allowed to escape to lead them to Ali, but Ali if he eluded so many attempts, is probably in Nepal enroute to Dawood Ibrahim's castle.

My post to admins
Rahul Mehta :

Hi Rahul M,

Just asking. You object when I post something along the line that "we all should order MPs via SMS to order Home Minister to give SPG cover to NaMo"

And I wasnt posting same thing again and again --- it was only one post in whole thread.

Then is following post OK? Here, the postor is asking all to send email to Prez, CEC etc.

I really dont see the difference between my post and the following post . I suggested SMS, he suggests email. Minor difference. I suggested we sending message to MPs, he suggests that we send message to CEC/Prez etc. MP, CEC, Prez are all one and same. So against, not much difference.

See if you can explain whats wrong with my post, given that nothing is wrong with his post?

I promise not to argue further on reasons you cite. And its ok if you dont cite reasons. But if I know the reason, then next time, I will draft my posts in a way that no admin needs to delete them, and that will save everyone's time.

Ramana's reply
ramana : Rahul Mehta, That post you quoted is from GDF. In this thread we specifically requested it to be limited to news and discussion of the Patna blasts. It gets distractig when you have a one track message. In psychology its called "broken record" and consists of :

Wiki:
The "broken record" technique[14] consists of simply repeating your requests or your refusals every time you are met with resistance. The term comes from vinyl records, the surface of which when scratched would lead the needle of a record player to loop over the same few seconds of the recording indefinitely. "As with a broken record, the key to this approach is repetition ... where your partner will not take no for an answer."[15]

A disadvantage with this technique is that when resistance continues, your requests may lose power every time you have to repeat them. If the requests are repeated too often, it can backfire on the authority of your words. In these cases, it is necessary to have some sanctions on hand.
So please reconsider the approach.

====

Ok. Now I had promised that I wont argue and I wont. But there is FACTUAL error in your reply which I want to cite. The post of Ashok Sarraff asking people to send emails to Prez/CEC is from THIS thread in Strategic Forum only. It is not from General Forum.

This is merely the tip of the iceberg, by a publicity hungry security apparatus and news hungry media. In the past they have mentioned exactly how IM folks communicated and how police was tracking them via emails (guess what, they stopped doing that) and also go into all the stuff that these guys failed at (so they can learn from their mistakes apparently). Truly bizarre state of affairs.

looks like unless there is a regime change, no justice will be served to those dead and injured.

500 judges and a army of paralegals will be needed to go through the misdeeds of the last 5 years and punish those responsible. a mere "5 judge bench" will be like a cup dipping into a sea.

It is becoming obvious that the plan failed not because the lack of intent or support but the short time they had for execution. They simply could not get well-trained people needed in numbers together. That also means that the future attacks may not be so haphazard in execution.

I just want to draw our attention to one of the tweets from Madhu Kishwar on this earlier this year.

http://en.newsbharati.com/Encyc/2013/4/ ... t-mum.aspx
Modi assassination threat jolts cong, Govt mum
"Madhu Kishwar said, quoting an anonymous ‘very senior central Govt official’ that Modi may be assassinated if Teesta and Congress fail to trap him in any FIR.
She further said in a reply, “It is Congress & its NGO allies that are instigating terrorist jihadis against Modi.”“I am serious because the persons who said this are very senior and well informed insiders”
The fact that even basic security protocol was not followed raises a serious possibility that Patna bomb blasts could have been sponsored by the ruling faction and the anti-Hindu NGOs combine. Even post blast the reaction is very nonchalant from the worthies. They are not even accepting that it is an assassination bid.

Why is BJP being so quiet instead of raising a hue and cry about this? That is what is very puzzling to me.

In a DC piece,Swapan Dasgupta (while commenting on Nitesh's sincere reputation) remarks how Nitesh was so insensitive to Modi's security,that the Pres. was deliberately invited at the same time,so security would be unavailable,just 6 or 8 cops were given to them for the rally,and he was given no bulllet-proof cars or cars with jammers,facts which well publicised as if inviting the ungodly to go for Modi,giving them the "green signal" to do so!

Having failed in the second attempt,the Kanpur rally was too well policed for them to try,the anti-national forces within the country will only increase their efforts to assassinate Mr.Modi and other key BJP leaders.This is a scandalous development and has to be met with stiff resistance form the public.One way is to apply intense pressure upon the president and the Election Commission on the issue,which is far more important to the nation that the meanderings of the heir-apparent's "confused mind" about the ISI whatever!

Check out The Hindu. They are completely blocking news about this in the front page. At least TOI, HT and rediff are still covering it. In case of the Hindu,nothing in the front page, nothing in the editorial, nothing in the opinion, nothing even under Assembly elections. Isn't an assassination attempt on the PM candidate of a major political party newsworthy. MaliniP will call this "fair and balanced". Shame on them to call themselves a newspaper! Someone with twitter handle should tweet this to MaliniP.

GRP men wanted to see ‘bomb licence’ from HT Posted earlier by VikramS

Some nuggets:
this crucial first FIR left a loophole that might make it difficult to pin Imtiaz down in court, said Sanjay Kumar, a lawyer at the Patna HC.
Though it is understood that the man was carrying bombs, it is nowhere mentioned in the FIR. There is no detail either about the number of bombs recovered, or description.

There is no mention of a slip of paper recovered from him that contained 7 phone numbers, which led to raids and arrests across Jharkhand and Bihar.
All this is part of the seizure list, but has little legal value

The political hand behind this mis-hit is palpable. The point is, was this the last; and how to deter this from happening again. any ideas?

After Patna blasts, Narendra Modi to get security similar to that of PM
New Delhi: Narendra Modi has not been given Special Protection Group or SPG cover by the Centre, but the BJP's prime ministerial candidate will now get special security similar to the kind given to the Prime Minister and some other VIPs.

After the serial blasts in Patna last weekend just before Mr Modi's 'Hunkar rally', the Union Home Ministry has decided to provide the Advance Security Liaison (ASL) facility to the Gujarat chief minister.

Under this, a detailed minute-to-minute security cover detail of Mr Modi's visit to any state will be prepared by the local police. The procedure is much the same as followed for those who receive SPG cover like the PM, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul.

The difference is that a detailed written itinerary of the PM is given to all authorities concerned and the SPG sanitises all his venues.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had said earlier this week, "Narendra Modi has been given sufficient security. He does not need the Special Protection Group (SPG)."

Mr Modi will be in Patna again this evening. He plans to meet relatives of the six people who were killed in Sunday's blasts. The Congress had criticised him and other BJP leaders for not talking about the blast victims on the day of his rally.

His security has become a boldface controversy with the BJP accusing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for "gross criminal negligence" for the Patna blasts and alleging that even basic security arrangements for Mr Modi's rally were deliberately overlooked. Nitish Kumar has denied that there were security lapses on part of his administration.

On Wednesday, Gujarat's Director General of Police accused the Bihar Police of "indifference and laxity" and said the serial blasts could have been averted if adequate security had been ensured.

The Bihar police have argued that they had ensured Mr Modi's safety and that the seven blasts that ripped through the city happened before he arrived to address his rally.
