On Golden Gate Bridge, pedestrians struck by blow darts

The victims were evaluated at the scene and released

(CNN)Police in California are asking for the public's help after two people walking on the Golden Gate Bridge were hit with blow darts.

The victims were struck Friday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. They were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released.

"Right now, we are hoping to narrow down exactly where they were and at what time," said CHP spokesman Andrew Barclay.

The darts are being tested to ensure they were not coated in chemicals. They were about 5 inches long, the CHP said, with one end sharpened to a point. It wasn't immediately clear what they were fired from.

Investigators are working to determine whether any footage exists of the crime, and they are asking anyone who may have seen what happened to contact the CHP.

"I can honestly say I've never heard of anything like this happening, ever," said Barclay.

If that is allowed, the Vatican and the evangelical church would give free internet to India's poor and then have a captiive audience to spread christianity and and Anti Hindu and anti India hate propoganda.

All hail the fall of the Bush dy-nasty! The insidious Bush dynasty with its none-to-secret shady Saudi links has been responsible for many of the world's woes in the last two decades. To be ruled over by a 3rd member of this infamous dy-nasty would be adding inhumanity upon insult to injury. The fall of Jeb Bush marks the end of an era which the world and the US would rather forget. As Donald Trump has stated,Dubya Bush's invasion of Iraq was perhaps the worst decision ever made on the planet.

If Donald Trump is remembered for just one thing of merit by posterity, sending Jeb and the Bush dy-nasty into the political dustbin of history should be ranked as his finest hour!

Fall of the house of Bush: how Jeb fell victim to hype, hysteria ... and himself
After a campaign marked by debate-stage fights with Donald Trump and an ill-conceived attempt to ‘kill’ Marco Rubio ‘in his crib’, a political dynasty is over.
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016 ... nald-trump
The cracks in Jeb Bush’s candidacy for president surfaced before he formally entered the race.
Clinton clinches Nevada while Trump wins big in South Carolina

It was meant to be like any other primetime appearance on Fox News: an opportunity for a son and brother of former presidents to tout his conservative credentials and record as a two-term governor of Florida. But on an evening in May, a month before he launched his campaign, Bush was confronted with the issue that defined his brother’s time in the White House.

“Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion [of Iraq]?” host Megyn Kelly asked.

Bush stumbled, repeatedly, over a question for which he had had years to prepare. It would take four days for him to provide a definitive response: that, given the advantage of hindsight, he would not have invaded Iraq.

Nine months later, Bush suspended his presidential campaign in the state he had hoped would resurrect his fortunes. On Saturday, voters in South Carolina instead overwhelmingly chose Donald Trump, the businessman who a week before had blamed George W Bush for the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, and accused the former president of lying about the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

There, in microcosm, lay the problem that plagued Bush from the off: a surname that earned a record $100m war chest before he had even declared his candidacy, and yet became one of his many disqualifications in the eyes of a primary electorate shaped less by conventional wisdom than anti-establishment fervor.

Bush appeared somewhat incredulous.

“The frontrunning candidate for the Republican nomination believes that the Republican president didn’t strive to keep us safe?” he told 200 or so voters in Rock Hill on Thursday, throwing up his arms in frustration. “I don’t get it.”

It was this tone that characterized the final days of the Bush campaign, as he toured South Carolina with a palpable acceptance that the writing was on the wall.

There had been a glimmer of hope, when George W Bush returned to the trail. The former president’s popularity in the state just might, it was thought, revive his brother’s flailing campaign. It was soon apparent, though, that the reappearance of Dubya had made little difference.

By midweek, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley delivered what one Bush aide described as “a gut punch”. She had chosen to endorse Senator Marco Rubio, Bush’s onetime ally turned rival, rewriting the narrative days before a primary critical to the direction of the two Floridian campaigns.

It seemed to have been entirely forgotten that in the New Hampshire primary, one week before, Bush placed ahead of Rubio after the senator’s devastating debate performance. Although the Bush campaign sought to downplay the impact of Haley’s endorsement, Bush himself had referred to it only the day before as “the most powerful, meaningful one in the state”.

Shortly after the news broke, on a sunny, picturesque afternoon, Bush took to a stage at an outdoor country club. The proceedings were downright funereal, as the former governor lamented the storyline playing out among the media and political pundits.

“It’s all been decided, apparently,” an agitated Bush said. “We don’t have to go vote. I should stop campaigning, maybe. That’s not how democracy works, right?”

The moment encapsulated the trials and tribulations of a candidate who entered the race with an aura of inevitability.
‘Kill him in his crib’

Donald Trump and Jeb Bush clash on immigration, during a debate in Las Vegas in December.

It began, in mid-December 2014, with a statement posted to Facebook: “I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States.”

The political press went into a frenzy, projecting another Bush-Clinton election.

The announcement told donors to hold off on commitments and warned potential opponents to reconsider their intentions. Mitt Romney, reportedly mulling a third run for president, was among those who subsequently held back.

In the following months, under the nation’s increasingly loose campaign finance laws, Bush amassed a record fundraising haul. His team worked behind the scenes to build an extensive list of endorsements, to be used when he officially declared his candidacy.

Aides were also confident that Rubio would not dare challenge the man once viewed as his mentor. When the senator pressed ahead, launching his own campaign in April, there was resentment but also dismissiveness.

After nearly eight years of Barack Obama, voters – much less Republicans – couldn’t possibly be drawn to another first-term senator. That was the thinking in Bush world.

At the center of Bush’s campaign, derived from a tried and tested playbook that prioritized experience, would be a record of his accomplishments as governor of Florida. But as Bush and his campaign workers would soon discover, 2016 would be the election year when the traditional rules did not apply.

Days after Bush announced his candidacy, Donald Trump took the plunge. Moments after the flashy real estate mogul rode an escalator down to his launch, he set the tone that would draw Republicans into a primary not simply over the party’s next nominee but its very identity.

Many Mexican immigrants, Trump said, were “rapists” and “killers”.
“And some, I assume, are good people,” he added.

The contrast to Bush, who a year earlier had called illegal immigration “an act of love”, could not have been clearer.
Trump vs Bush: Republican debate becomes festival of bickering.

At first, Bush and his team ignored Trump – assuming, as did most, that he was simply a sideshow. But as the summer dragged on, Bush was baited into what would become a death match.

Faced with constant questions by reporters over Trump’s outlandish statements, Bush struggled – at one point using the controversial term “anchor babies” while discussing immigration, prompting blowback from groups representing Latinos and Asians.

Standing beside Trump on the presidential debate stage, Bush floundered further. Trump was like the schoolyard bully whose taunts extended far beyond the playground. He said Bush was “low-energy”, a bruising description from which Bush never truly recovered.

Beneath the seemingly childish jabs was a troubling reality: Bush, through the dynastic nature of his candidacy, was the perfect foil for Trump the political outsider.

And so, sensing a war with Trump beyond its control, the Bush campaign chose to set its sights on a less threatening obstacle. Rubio had begun to rise as a potential establishment candidate. He was still polling behind Bush, but the aim in the Bush campaign, as some allies put it, was to “kill him in his crib”.

And so, at a retreat last fall intended to reassure anxious donors, Bush aides laid out a plan to expose Rubio as a “Republican Obama”, with a thin resumé and a shady financial history.

Bush telegraphed the coming attacks in a series of interviews, as his campaign zeroed in on Rubio’s spotty attendance record in the Senate. The approach would culminate in the October debate in Boulder, Colorado, in which Bush saw an early opportunity and pounced.

A lot of the attacks seemed to spring from Marco’s original sin to the Bush campaign of having the temerity to run
Doug Heye, Republican strategist

“What is this, a French workweek?” he smirked, after berating Rubio “as a constituent” of Florida for failing to show up to his day job.

Rubio was ready and waiting.
“Someone convinced you attacking me is going to help you,” he responded. Bush stood aside, managing only a grimace in return.
In the following weeks, his poll numbers plummeted to new lows as Rubio scored the backing of a number of coveted mega-donors.

Doug Heye, an unaffiliated Republican strategist and commentator, said the Bush campaign’s focus on Rubio had been “glaring” – and misguided.

“Clearly, there was a thought that theirs were roughly the same voters, which I don’t think is wrong,” Heye said.
“But a lot of the attacks seemed to spring from Marco’s original sin to the Bush campaign of having the temerity to run when Jeb was already running … Voters don’t care about intrastate feuds, and every attack sprung from that.”

Seeking to drag himself back into the race, Bush reclaimed the mantle of the party elder. He unveiled a new slogan, “Jeb can fix it”, that refocused attention on the domestic and foreign challenges confronting America. On the stump, he openly derided Trump as “a chaos candidate” unfit for the presidency.

With the help of a public speaking coach, he returned to the debates as a decidedly fierier presence. In his final encounters with Trump onstage, it looked as though it was he who had gotten into the frontrunner’s head, rather than the other way around.

But it was too little, too late.

Bush’s numbers didn’t move, and the lack of enthusiasm for his candidacy was best reflected in a town hall ahead of the New Hampshire primary when he was forced, after hitting some of his key lines, to ask of his audience: “Please clap.”

Days later, it was Ohio governor John Kasich who emerged in New Hampshire as the so-called establishment alternative with a surprise second-place finish. And while Bush inched ahead of Rubio, it would become evident just a week later that the result was of little consequence.

“Jeb should’ve embraced his age and wisdom a bit more rather than attempting to echo the antics of the circus around him,” said one Republican operative, who requested anonymity to discuss the race freely. “Kasich ended up drawing in sober and serious voters in New Hampshire when Jeb could have cornered the market early.”

There was also the practical matter of an electorate fundamentally transformed – the voters contesting the 2016 Republican primary no longer make up the Party of Bush.

Rory Cooper, a Republican operative who worked as an aide to former House majority leader Eric Cantor, said there was arguably little Bush could have done differently about his family history.

I’m not entirely sure there is much the campaign could be doing … that wasn’t baked in the day he announced
Rory Cooper, Republican operative

“He didn’t run from it, and in fact he appropriately expressed pride in it, but he still attempted to establish his independent bonafides,” Cooper said. “I’m not entirely sure there is much the campaign could be doing one way or the other that wasn’t baked in the day he announced.”

On the final day of his campaign, Bush met voters in Daniel Island, South Carolina. Away from the television cameras, the once-staid and awkward former governor seemed relatively carefree. Casually dressed, in indigo jeans, a pale blue Oxford shirt and polished black cowboy boots, he mingled freely with the crowd.

Dozens had lined up to have their picture taken with the presidential candidate. In-between photo-ops, the Guardian asked how he thought he was going to do in South Carolina.

“I think we’re going to do very well,” Bush said, before offering a line that has more weight in hindsight: “In this precinct, at least.”

Outside in the sunshine, with Senator Lindsay Graham at his side, Bush held a brief huddle with reporters. The Guardian asked if he would consider being Donald Trump’s vice-president.

“No,” he said, to laughter. “And let’s be clear, I don’t think he would ask me either.”

Graham, once a long-shot candidate himself, seemed optimistic but was well aware of the flaws in Bush’s campaign.

“He’s getting better,” Graham said, when the Guardian asked what he thought of Bush’s public persona. “He’s been out for 10 years. It’s like playing a sport – it takes a while to get back into it.

“He’s embraced his family, he’s comfortable in his own skin, and it think that begins to show. And I think in the last three weeks he’s really become a much better candidate.”

Jeb Bush suspends his presidential campaign.
Ding, dong, the dynasty is dead: so long to Jeb Bush and the family legacy

But that evening, at the Bush party in the Hilton Columbia Center, the reality had set in. After finishing sixth in Iowa and fourth in New Hampshire and looking at a distant fourth in South Carolina, the lack of a path was set in stone. Bush, put simply, was no one’s second choice – a critical requirement to successfully challenge Trump in the future.

As he announced he was suspending his campaign, the crowd gasped.
A chant broke out: “Jeb, Jeb, Jeb.”

Standing before his supporters, holding back tears, Bush paid tribute to his family. Members of the crowd consoled each other, trying to make sense of what had gone wrong. It was an odd year, they concluded.

By 9.30pm, almost everyone had left. He had given his last speech at a wooden lectern. One of his placards was taped to the front.
“Trusted leadership for a stronger America,” it said.

As the stragglers lingered, a member of the Bush campaign came out and ripped the sign off the lectern. It was an unceremonious end to a campaign that never got off the ground, and to the legacy of one of the most dominant families in American politics.
As far as Bush was concerned, the weight had finally been lifted.

Hilary muscled her way into the establishment Democratic spot by insider politics and blackmail, not through popularity or will of the people. She is unlikable enough to ward off any independent voters, whom decide elections, that are tired of corrupt Washington Insider politicians who act like puppets of Wall Street. She will have a very hard time winning, even against Trump.

Trump has despatched the Bush brigade into the dustbin of history, next on the list should be the Clintons!Donald Trump ahead in three quarters of next 12 states

Republican front-runner has big lead in Nevada and elsewhere but Marco Rubio remains confident of ultimate victory

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... tates.html

By Nick Allen, Nevada
22 Feb 2016

Donald Trump is ahead in three quarters of the next dozen states to vote in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, including Nevada.

Of the 11 states voting in the crucial "Super Tuesday" event on March 1 latest polls showed the billionaire up by seemingly insurmountable margins in Massachusetts, Alabama and Vermont, with narrower advantages in Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Alaska.

Ted Cruz, the US Senator from Texas, held a narrow lead in his home state, and in Arkansas, while Marco Rubio was up by two points in Minnesota.

"Trump, amazingly, is in a commanding position to become the Republican presidential nominee." said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Centre for Politics.

"If someone is going to beat Trump then Rubio probably has the best shot but the hour is growing late. He can’t keep on finishing second or third. You have to start winning, but where?"

Mr Trump won easy victories in the previous two states to vote, South Carolina and New Hampshire.

As the candidates arrived in Nevada the property mogul claimed he could "run the table".

But he added: "You can always be stopped. I have competitors who are very smart people."

Mr Rubio claimed 70 per cent of the Republican electorate would never vote for Mr Trump and, as other candidates dropped out, it would become a "two person race" which he would win by "uniting the party".

The latest polls in Nevada showed Mr Trump with a lead of at least 16 points over Mr Rubio and Mr Cruz.

However, polls in the state are notoriously unreliable due to the transient working population in the main city Las Vegas.

Mr Rubio, the 44-year-old senator from Florida, believed he could upset the predictions, partly because he spent six years living in Las Vegas as a child.

"My Dad worked at Sam's Town, he was a pretty good bartender, and my mother was a maid at the Imperial Palace." he told an enthusiastic crowd at a casino on the edge of the city.

He added: "I always think of Las Vegas as a place of hope and fresh starts."

Mr Rubio was introduced on stage by Donnie Wahlberg, singer with the 1980s pop band New Kids On The Block.

"I've never voted for a Republican candidate before," said Mr Wahlberg. "But Marco's more prepared than anybody else by a mile to be president."

During his childhood Mr Rubio and his family also briefly became Mormons, and members of the religion make up one quarter of the Republicans expected to vote in Nevada. In 2012 they rallied around the Mormon candidate Mitt Romney.

Mr Rubio has also been backed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper. It was recently bought by billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who was said to have been impressed after meeting Mr Rubio.

Mr Cruz focused his campaign on rural areas of the state. At a roadside sports bar he said: "We are the one campaign that can beat Donald Trump."

Mr Trump owns a 64-storey hotel which towers over the Las Vegas Strip, his name emblazoned in giant letters at the top. The windows are infused with 24-carat gold.

On the eve of the Nevada vote the hotel lost the latest round of a legal battle in which it is trying to stop 500 employees joining a union.

Union leaders claimed the workers, 80 per cent of them immigrants, were paid $3.33 less than those doing similar jobs at other big Las Vegas hotels.

Trump employees planned to protest outside the candidate's pre-vote rally.

Geoconda Arguello-Kline, Secretary of the Culinary Workers Union, said: "If Donald Trump wants to make America great again he should start right here by negotiating with us. Employees are calling on the world-famous negotiator to make a deal."

Miguel Funes, a Honduras-born food sever at the Trump, said he was earning $9.18 an hour but had made twice that for the same job at another hotel.

Mr Funes said: "We're working for him, we're making money for him, but he's not able to give us what we deserve. What is he going to make of America?"

Trump trampling his rivals yet again!
Nevada caucus: Donald Trump triumphs with 45 per cent of the vote - live
Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are locked in tight battle for second place as counting begins
Donald Trump ecstatic after stunning win in Nevada with at least 45 per cent of the vote

Good morning. Donald Trump has trounced his Republican rivals with a decisive victory in Nevada which has sent shockwaves across the Grand Old Party.

Projections on TV networks gave Trump 46 percent of the vote, with senators Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas trailing some 20 points behind.

"We will be celebrating for a long time tonight," Trump told cheering supporters in a victory speech.

The lopsided result underscored the enormous challenge Trump's rivals face as the candidates head into next week's all important "Super Tuesday" contests involving 11 states.

As early returns came in, CNN and Fox News had Rubio in second place with about 24 percent of the vote and Cruz in third place with about 21 percent.

Turnout was high, exceeding all expectations, with some caucus sites running low on ballots.

The remaining two candidates for the Republican presidential nomination, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and Ohio Governor John Kasich, came in at about six and four percent, respectively.

A triumphant Trump, who has alienated many Hispanic voters with his persistent anti-immigrant rhetoric, told supporters after his win that he was especially proud to have fared well with the Latino Republican voters in Nevada who overwhelmingly backed him.

And he told of how a wealthy friend wanted to donate $10 million dollars to his campaign but Trump said no because he is financing it himself.

"Every time I see him it's hard for me to turn down money because that's not what I've done my whole life," Trump said.
"I grab and grab and I get greedy. Now we're going to get greedy for the United States and grab and grab and grab," he added.

The real estate mogul had been all but certain to triumph in Nevada, with the big question being whether Rubio - who is favoured by mainstream Republicans - could clinch second place.
Cruzing (pardon the pun) along in turd place!
Ted Cruz can't wait to get home

CNN

Trump accompanied his rollout of Christie with a stream of invective against Rubio, reflecting the raised stakes ahead of Super Tuesday and the scorched-earth duel now raging between them.

As the campaign headed further toward the gutter, Trump branded Rubio a "low life," "a nasty little guy," a "basket case" and "a choker" who sweated so much he had to put makeup on with a trowel.

The Florida senator, meanwhile, punched back, seeming to relish his new aggressive campaign mode. He suggested Friday morning that Trump was a "con artist" who was worried about wetting his pants and mocked the serial tweeter's spelling before a delighted crowd in Texas.

well the rough and tough part of NJ is only a pie around NYC - taking its cue big brotha

southern NJ is typical amirkan suburbia and dry pine woods with some rich enclaves, western NJ is wooded and rural and northern NJ is rich, wooded and somewhat hilly - so nothing to complain of there.

NYC is over rated. upper part of NY is great though as a state once you leave the moh-maya of NYC behind. still a industrial, education and farming powerhouse. one of the 'core' states of the republic like TN in our south. hallowed names like GE, IBM, Corning and many more ....

Police have arrested the shooter of a Dayton, Ohio pastor, who was killed in the middle of Sunday service. iStock

A pastor was shot and killed in the middle of Sunday church service in Dayton, Ohio on 28 February, police said. The pastor, identified by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office as 71-year-old William Schooler, was allegedly shot by his brother as the choir sang.

The shooting occurred at St Peters Missionary Baptist Church after 12.30pm EST/5.30pm GMT. According to WDTN, police took the shooter, believed to be Daniel Gregory Schooler, into custody at the church. Daniel Gregory Schooler, 68, was arrested and booked into Montgomery County Jail, but charges have not been formally pressed.

Witnesses said the choir was singing when the shooter followed the pastor up to the pulpit and shot him. Chaos ensued as the nearly 20-person congregation took off running to safety, WDTN reported. Police were able to arrest the shooter upon arrival and pronounced the pastor dead at the scene.

"He had deep roots in the community," said Schooler's friend and fellow community leader Ronnie Moreland. "He was a beloved leader. It's hard to put into words what has happened."

According to the Dayton Daily News, the alleged shooter has a history of violence, with family members noting he suffered from mental health problems. In 2001, the alleged shooter was charged with felonious assault with a firearm specification and carrying a concealed weapon and given five years of probation.

A year later, Schooler attacked a 27-year-old woman, knocking her unconscious. The victim claimed the assault lasted 40 minutes and said she suffered cuts, contusions and other injuries. He was convicted of felonious assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to two years in prison. He was involved in several other incidents in 2007 and 2008.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office announced that an autopsy for William Schooler is scheduled for 29 February. The pastor was formerly a member of the Dayton Public School Board of Education and the president of the Dayton Baptist Pastors and Ministers Union of Greater Dayton, Inc. The union told reporters that the previously scheduled Black History Worship Service at Zion Baptist Church was canceled in honour of the fallen pastor.

Christie is a vindictive fellow. Probably annoyed with establishment for not backing him and now does his bit in bringing down the lone establishment guy Marco Rubio left in race.

I used to think that trump will win nomination but fall in general.

Now I think he might go all the way. He has figured a way of deflecting serious stuff and use just reality show rhetoric to get support from people who are just annoyed with things as they are. He does not have to spell out any policy and does not need to explain himself later for things he says now. He might pull independent and democratic voters enough and republicans are known to hold their nose and turnup for republican candidate no matter how much they dislike him, because they hate Hilary more.

Why were they TSA-ing a photo-journalist anyway? Did he ask 2-b-POTUS Trump something?

Here's the CNN version.
Radford, Virginia (CNN)A photographer covering a Donald Trump rally in Virginia said a Secret Service agent choked him and slammed him to the ground Monday as he tried to leave a media pen at the event where a protest erupted.
A video of the incident shot by an attendee at the rally and later posted on social media shows the agent putting two hands on the photographer's neck and slamming him to the ground.
Time magazine photographer Chris Morris told CNN that as he tried to exit the media pen, a Secret Service agent began choking him.
"I'm not pressing charges," Morris said Monday. "I stepped 18 inches out of the pen and he grabbed me by the neck and started choking me and then he slammed me to the ground."
A Secret Service spokesman said the agency is "aware of an incident involving an employee" and will provide further details of the incident after they gather the facts.
"Our local field office is working with their law enforcement partners to determine the exact circumstances that led up to this incident. The Secret Service will provide further details as warranted once additional facts surrounding the situation are known," said spokesman Robert Hoback.
Time Magazine explained the incident in a staff-written article posted on its website that relied on several videos of the altercation that showed both the Secret Service agent choking and slamming its photographer to the ground and the photographer cursing at the agent moments earlier.
The article also noted that a third video shows Morris kicking the agent trying to restrain him while on the ground and then putting his hands on the agent's neck.
"Morris said that he did so in order to demonstrate the choke hold he had just experienced," the magazine said in the article written by "Time Staff."
"We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK, and we expect him to be back at work soon," a Time spokesperson was quoted as saying in the article.
The Trump campaign confirmed in a statement that "there was an incident involving a photographer and a USSS agent" at the rally.
"We are not aware of all details surrounding the incident and all future inquiries should be directed to local law enforcement," Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said.
Before the incident, dozens of protesters interrupted Trump's rally, many of them linking arms and bringing the Republican presidential front-runner's stump speech temporarily to a halt.
The protest started after one activist interrupted Trump, to which he responded by asking the protester "Are you from Mexico?"
Some of the demonstrators chanted "Black Lives Matter," to which Trump responded with "All lives matter."
After initially resisting, the activists were escorted out of the event site.
CNN's Tom LoBianco contributed to this report.

And the TIME version
TIME Responds to Confrontation With Secret Service at Trump Event
"We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK"
Updated to include comment from photographer Christopher Morris
The U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement briefly detained a photographer on assignment for TIME at a Donald Trump rally at Radford University in Virginia Monday, following a scuffle that saw the photographer thrown to the ground in a choke hold.
Chris Morris, a veteran White House photographer working on the campaign for TIME, stepped out of the press pen to photograph a Black Lives Matter protest that interrupted the speech. A video shows that Morris swore at a Secret Service agent who tried to move Morris back into the pen. A separate video of the event shows that the agent then grabbed Morris’ neck with both hands and threw him into a table and onto the ground (see GIF below).
Video also shows that once on the ground, Morris kicked at the agent who was trying to restrain him. Later, Morris briefly put his hand on the agent’s neck. After the exchange, Morris said that he did so in order to demonstrate the choke hold he had just experienced.
TIME has contacted the U.S. Secret Service to express concerns about the level and nature of the agent’s response. Morris has also expressed remorse for his part in escalating the confrontation. A TIME spokesperson said, “We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK, and we expect him to be back at work soon.”
Unlike other presidential campaigns, which generally allow reporters and photographers to move around at events, Trump has a strict policy requiring reporters and cameramen to stay inside a gated area, which the candidate often singles out for ridicule during his speeches. The entrance to the penned area is generally monitored by the Secret Service detail, which also screens attendees at his events and personally protects the candidate.
“I’ve worked for nine years at the White House and have never had an altercation with the Secret Service,” Morris says in a statement. “What happened today was very unfortunate and unexpected. The rules at Trump events are significantly stricter than other campaigns and make it very difficult to work as a photographer, as many others have pointed out before me. I regret my role in the confrontation, but the agent’s response was disproportionate and unnecessarily violent. I hope this incident helps call attention to the challenges of press access.”
He adds: “I am shaken, but physically I am OK. I’m heading home to rest but plan to be back on the trail for TIME soon.”
The Trump campaign put out a statement following the event. “There was an incident involving a photographer and a USSS agent at today’s Radford University Trump rally,” the statement said. “We are not aware of all the details surrounding the incident and all future inquiries should be directed to local law enforcement.”
The Secret Service also put out a statement: “The Secret Service is aware of an incident involving an employee of the Secret Service that occurred earlier today in Radford, VA. At this time, our local field office is working with their law enforcement partners to determine the exact circumstances that led up to this incident. The Secret Service will provide further details as warranted once additional facts surrounding the situation are known.”

Land of the Even-Freer
This was a State University in Jaw-Jaw, so I anticipate some followup. Nah!
Valdosta, Georgia (CNN)A large group of black students attending a Donald Trump rally at Valdosta State University Monday were escorted out by law enforcement before the event started.
"We didn't plan to do anything," Tahjila Davis, a 19-year-old mass media major, told The Des Moines Register. "They said, 'This is Trump's property; it's a private event.' But I paid my tuition to be here."
News reports placed the number of students escorted out at about 30.
Kicking out anticipated protestors isn't an uncommon practice for Trump events, but this was one of the largest groups so far in his campaign. It occurred hours after a Secret Service agent choke-slammed a Time magazine photographer attempted to capture images of #BlackLivesMatter protesters at an event in Virginia.
Though at least one outlet reported the students were kicked out based on a request by the Trump campaign, the campaign denies that was the case.
"There is absolutely zero truth to that," says campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks.
One Secret Service agent oversaw the students' removal, but agents did not actively participate in escorting them out.
"If a group at an event protests, it does not become an issue with the United States Secret Service unless our protectee is threatened," said Kevin Dye, a spokesman for Secret Service. He said it's not uncommon for Secret Service agents to monitor these situations, but they do not actively participate in removing protesters.
Another Secret Service agent told CNN the protesters were "asked to leave by the host committee and local law enforcement."
"We do not escort protestors (or) disruptors out of events," the agent, speaking on background, said. "(It's) not a Secret Service function and (campaign) staff knows that.{yeah, we occasionally slam-dunk a TIME photographer or 2, but that's just for exercise}
Time magazine photographer Chris Morris told CNN that at a rally earlier in the day a Secret Service agent began choking him as he tried to exit the media pen.
A video of the incident shot by an attendee at the rally and later posted on social media shows the agent putting two hands on the photographer's neck and slamming him to the ground.
A Secret Service spokesman said the agency is "aware of an incident involving an employee" and will provide further details of the incident after they gather the facts.
