That was one fiery Fry-din sermon - really fried the mosque too! :shock:y
Then again, how much do u believe Texas Polis?

Just as I thought: see the clinching evidence!
According to a charging instrument released by the Harris County District Clerk, Moore told investigators at the scene that he has attended the storefront mosque for five years, coming five times per day to pray seven days per week.
Moore said he had been at the mosque earlier on Dec. 25 to pray, and had left at about 2 p.m. to go home, according to authorities and court papers. Moore said he was the last person to leave the mosque and saw no smoke or other signs of fire when he departed, authorities said. He maintained he had returned to the scene after hearing about the fire from a friend.
Oh, ur Honner!
1. He has a dark beard
2. He looks African-American/ African.
3. He is a Muslim.

Dat dere is dem 3 stee-rikes, ur Honner! He must be guilty!

Yeah, a gang of good ole boyz went by in a red pickup, tossed some beer bottles around and spilled some gasoline, but they're clean-cut all-American (aka "gora") so 400% innocent.

Armed militia, incl. Bundy bros, occupy forest reserve HQ in Oregon, call ‘US patriots’ to arms
Published time: 3 Jan,

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s three sons and “about 150” militiamen have occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge HQ to protest the pending imprisonment of two Oregon ranchers accused of arson, arguing the federal government has no authority in local cases.

“We’re going to be freeing these lands up, and getting ranchers back to ranching, getting the loggers back to logging, getting the miners back to mining where they could do it under the protection of the people and not be afraid of this tyranny that’s been set upon them,” Ammon Bundy, who appears to be the leader of the group, said in a Facebook video posted by Sarah Dee Spurlock on Saturday.

Bundy appears to be standing at the scene of the takeover, surrounded by several men in military-style uniforms with rifles and hand-held radios.

The rancher points out that Harney County used to be the richest in state, and is now the poorest. His radical proposal to solve the situation is to have armed “patriots” come and live in a de-facto self-rule zone independent of the federal authorities.

The second speaker in the video, identified as Blane Cooper, equates the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to bullies at school who used to beat kids up and who eventually had to be put in their place.

“Until that line is drawn and say ‘we’ve had enough of this tyranny, you are going to leave us alone’ it will not change,” the military-clad man says.

According to Cooper, they hope their occupation will spell the beginning of a US-wide movement.

“It doesn’t have to stop here. This could be a hope that spreads through the whole country, the whole United States. Everybody’s looking for this hope because the government has beat us, and oppressed us, and took everything from us; they will not stop until we tell them 'no',” he claims.

The militiamen told OregonLive there were about 150 of them, but a couple who delivered food to the refuge HQ estimated that there were just 15.

Ammon Bundy, 40, told CNN by phone that the protesters want the federal government to restore the "people's constitutional rights."

"This refuge - it has been destructive to the people of the county and to the people of the area," he said. "People need to be aware that we've become a system where government is actually claiming and using and defending people's rights, and they are doing that against the people."

The Bundys and their armed supporters occupied the federal property after splitting from a peaceful Saturday morning protest in Burns, Oregon.

Some 300 people marched through the town to protest against the prosecution of two Harney County ranchers, Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, who are scheduled to report to prison on Monday.

Both ranchers were convicted on charges of setting fire to federal land. The case has attracted interest from local militia and intensified debate around the federal government’s authority.

“Dwight Lincoln Hammond, Jr., 73, and his son, Steven Dwight Hammond, 46, both residents of Diamond, Oregon in Harney County, were sentenced to five years in prison by Chief US District Judge Ann Aiken for arsons they committed on federal lands,” the US Attorney Office said.

The occupation resembles the Bundy Ranch stand-off of 2014, when the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attempted to enforce grazing laws. Bundy got the help of armed militia and triggered a stand-off with federal authorities.

The family said heavily-armed federal agents had surrounded their ranch as “trespass cattle” were removed from the disputed land.

READ MORE: Heavily-armed feds surround Nevada Bundy ranch, confiscate cattle (VIDEO)

Since 1993, Cliven Bundy – the “last rancher in Clark County, Nevada” – has refused to pay fees to the federal government for the right to raise cattle on land that his family has ranched since the 1870s, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

The dispute began in 1998 when the BLM designated 186,909 acres of the Gold Butte area, where the ranch is located, as “critical” for the survival of the desert tortoise population. Bundy had lost his grazing permit in 1993, despite his family’s long-time presence on the land.

According to the BLM, Bundy owes around $1 million in fees, while the family contends the sum is more like $300,000.
Hammonds case

The Pendleton, Oregon jury found the Hammonds guilty of the arsons in June 2012. Both were charged with igniting a series of fires on lands managed by the BLM.

Hammond Ranches has about 12,000 acres in the Diamond-Frenchglen area. Their livelihood is running cattle during the winter. Two years ago, the ranch used 26,420 acres of land belonging to the BLM for summer grazing.

Supporters of the Hammonds believe they were treated unconstitutionally because the two were convicted of arson under a provision of an expansive federal law punishing terrorism. They both served their prison terms for 2001 and 2006 fires, but were then told by appellate judges they had to go back to prison to serve more.

However, Hammonds said they did not welcome the Bundy group's help, CBS News reported.

"Neither Ammon Bundy nor anyone within his group/organization speak for the Hammond Family," the Hammonds' lawyer W. Alan Schroeder wrote to Sheriff David Ward.

Ranchers use fire in eastern Oregon to burn invasive species. However, it is a dangerous practice, as several wildfires in the area have got out of hand, scorching hundreds of thousands of acres.

The controversial case demonstrates a problem with a 1996 law, which was introduced to punish domestic terrorists, according to Barry Bushue, the longtime president of the Oregon Farm Bureau.

“I find it incredible that the government would want to try these ranchers as terrorists,” Bushue told The Pete Santilli Show. “Now is where the rubber meets the road. Right now is when the public should absolutely be incensed. And the public, I think, should be fearful.”

Gurcharan Singh Gill, an employee at local liquor store at Shields Express in West Shields Avenue was at work when he was stabbed to death during broad day light, Lieutenant Mindy Casto said.
While investigations are still on-going, local community members feel Gill was attacked due to his identity and skin colour, Casto said.

Pentagon: Hundreds of military kids sexually abused annually
http://news.yahoo.com/military-kids-sex ... 40848.html
WASHINGTON (AP) — Cpl. Aaron C. Masa became fast friends with a fellow Marine during field training in North Carolina. But behind his buddy's back, Masa was sexually abusing his friend's 3-year-old stepdaughter. He also took sexually explicit photos of the girl and the Marine's infant daughter.
A military judge convicted Masa last year of sexual abuse of a child and production of child *****, according to court records and other documents detailing the case. Under the terms of a pretrial agreement, he pleaded guilty and received 30 years in prison. In total, incidents involving sexual assault in which the children of service members are victims occur hundreds of times each year, data the Defense Department provided exclusively to The Associated Press show. The abuse is committed most often by male enlisted troops, according to the data, followed by family members.
The figures offer greater insight into the sexual abuse of children committed by service members, a problem of uncertain scale due to a lack of transparency into the military's legal proceedings. With more than 1 million military dependents, the number of cases appears statistically small. But for a profession that prides itself on honor and discipline, any episodes of abuse cast a pall. Those numbers fall well-short of offering a full picture. The ages of the offenders and victims, the locations of the incidents and the branch of service that received the report of sexual abuse were omitted. The Defense Department said in a statement that "information that could unintentionally uniquely identify victims was withheld from release to eliminate possible 're-victimization' of the innocent."There were at least 1,584 substantiated cases of military dependents being sexually abused between fiscal years 2010 and 2014, according to the data. Enlisted service members sexually abused children in 840 cases. Family members of the victims accounted for the second largest category with 332 cases. Most of the enlisted offenders were males whose ranks ranged between E-4 and E-6. In the Marine Corps and Army, for example, those troops are corporals, sergeants and staff sergeants. Officers were involved in 49 of the cases. The victims were overwhelmingly female.

Kathy Robertson, manager of the Family Advocacy Program, said in an emailed response to questions that the incident rates reflect the U.S. military's demographics. Most of the cases involve the E-4 and E-6 ranks because they are the largest number of active-duty personnel and the largest number of parents in the military, she said.Duplications in the data indicate that as many as 160 additional cases of sexual abuse could have occurred during the 2010 to 2014 period, involving a child who was victimized multiple times or a repeat abuser. The figures also account only for cases involving military dependents, which are the only child victims the department tracks. In Masa's case, military authorities first became aware of the alleged abuse in June 2014 after the 3-year-old told a neighbor that she did not like Masa because he touched her in certain places and "made it hurt," according to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service's investigation obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.The report depicted Masa as a loner with a troubled past. People interviewed by the Navy investigators described him as "oddball" who was picked on in high school in Marietta, Ohio. He graduated near the bottom of his class with a cumulative 1.782 GPA, according to his official transcript.Masa watched a lot of sexually explicit Japanese animation known as hentai, the NCIS report said, and he had an intense interest in "furry *****," a genre of ***** in which animal characters with human arms and legs engage in sex.

Oregon 'terrorists' don't plan siege very well, put out plea for snacks and supplies
http://i100.independent.co.uk/article/o ... paign=i100
A group of around a dozen armed men have taken over a remote federal building on a wildlife reserve in Oregon as part of a protest against government "tyranny", demanding that the land be handed over to local ranchers.

1 Member of the group Ryan Bundy talking about the US constitution in a YouTube video from April 2014

Despite the fact that a few of the actors have carried out similar actions over land use before, they appear not to have planned this stand-off in the snowy, desolate area very well.

The group have vowed to stay in the building "as long as it takes" and have said they are not afraid to kill or be killed if law enforcement tries to remove them.

The internet has been quick to deride the group as 'Y'all Qaeda', pointing out their actions bear the hallmarks of domestic terrorism, although many media sources aren't calling it that:

America is the land of the free and brave governed by law which is same for all
A federal judge on Wednesday threw out a civil rights case against an Alabama police officer accused of using excessive force on an Indian man.

U.S. District Judge Madeline Haikala granted a motion to acquit Madison police officer Eric Parker after his two previous trials ended in hung juries.

In her 92-page opinion, Haikala said evidence that was presented during Parker's two trials didn't eliminate reasonable doubt that Parker was guilty of a crime.

"The Court has no reason to expect a different result in a subsequent trial given the totality of the evidence that the parties have provided," Haikala wrote.

Parker slammed 58-year-old Sureshbhai Patel (suh-REHSH'-by pah-TEL') down face first during a suspicious person investigation in February in a Huntsville suburb. The incident was recorded on cameras inside patrol vehicles and Patel was injured in the takedown.

Parker has testified that Patel tried to pull away from him, indicating he may have been up to no good.

Patel has said through an interpreter that he doesn't speak English and couldn't understand officers' orders.

Haikala said in her opinion that based on his training, Parker had to consider that Patel might have said that to evade officers.

Parker had testified that Patel's actions and appearance were "in sequence" with those of a burglar. He told jurors Patel tried walking away and wouldn't answer questions when officers approached him. Parker has said he was suspicious when Patel reached for his pockets and when he pulled one of his hands free during a pat-down.

Patel wasn't armed and suffered a spinal injury when he was thrown down face-first on a lawn. During the first trial, Parker said he lost his balance and fell on top of the man.

Jurors watched police video that shows an officer knocking Patel's legs out from under him and pushing him face-first to the ground. Patel said his arms and legs went numb after the impact, and he could not stand on his own. Parker's colleagues had given conflicting testimony on whether the takedown violated department policy or was necessary.

Judge Haikala said the video didn't account for critical details, including whether Patel put his hands in his pockets before Parker restrained him. Gaps in the evidence were "insurmountable" in the case and it's unlikely that prosecutors would do better in a third or fourth trial, Haikala wrote.

^^ This is just sad, but there never wwas a doubt about this outcome. Certain people are protected, chosen people in this system. untouchable in a different sense. Baltimore, florida, ohio show a death isnt even cause for a thorough inquiry let alone sanction.

Civilizations used to share advances when commerce first started between them. Now they adopt the worst habits. As far as enforcement goes, its beyond repair in the land of liberty.

In a jolt to a paralysed Indian grandfather's bid to seek justice, an American police officer who brutally assaulted him has been acquitted by a United States court on the grounds of being 'presumed innocent' after two mistrials could not establish his guilt beyond doubt.
Judge Madeline Hughes Haikala threw out the case against Alabama police officer Eric Parker, who faced up to 10 years in prison for using excessive force against 58-year-old Sureshbhai Patel in the February 6 incident last year.
Haikala filed a 92-page opinion on Wednesday ending with, "The government has had two full and fair chances to obtain a conviction; it will not have another."
Parker still faces a state charge of misdemeanour assault in Limestone County.....

US: They beat him and called him a terrorist but this Sikh bus driver ensured safety of passengers
Washington: A Sikh bus driver in Los Angeles was brutally assaulted and was dubbed a terrorist and a suicide bomber, the victim’s representatives said on Wednesday over two months after the incident was reported to the police.
The Sikh Coalition group, is representing the victim Balwinder Jit Singh, who worked as a bus driver for 17 years.
While he was being beaten by a passenger on 6 November, Singh kept his foot on the brake of his bus to ensure the safety of the pedestrians and passengers. The assault left Singh in the hospital with a black eye, swollen and bruised face and jaw, and infection in his eye.
“Two months later, he continues to suffer from blurred vision and pain,” the Sikh Coalition said.....

I've been checking into this lately and purportedly for about $100 per day the City of Flint could have added water softener (phosphates) to water supply and they never would have had this problem in the first place.

But the key question to me is why is the Flint River so acidic (corrosive)?

The EPA clean water act has been in effect for about 4 decades now. Who is polluting the river? More importantly, can they catch the culprits and punish them (the river polluters)?

Outrage boiled through my veins as I sought this answer. Dirty rotten, no good defilers of the earth, scum....kill, kill, kill, KILL!

Except well, it all of us, that are doing it.

You see, Michigan, as everybody knows, gets long, cold, icy, snowy, winters.

Driving conditions can be dangerous when the roads are slick with ice and snow. So what do we do?

We put salt on the roads and highways to melt the ice and snow on the roads. We also put it on parking lots and sidewalks. We want everybody to be safe right?

Yeah safe.

Except when the snow and ice melts, the salt dissolves and creates positive and negative chlorine ions. Then it rains and washes all of it into the gutters and culverts and ditches along the streets and roads and ultimately into the streams and river systems.

It is the negative chlorine ions that are doing the damage.

When the city was getting the drinking water from Lake Huron why wasn't the ions doing the damage before the city switched to the Flint river as a water source?

Because Lake Huron is so darn huge, the ions are diluted and no damage was being done to the lead pipes that had been in place in the city for the last 100 years. But when switched to the Flint river, the effect of the corrosion of the pipes was immediate, which the city ignored due to cost cutting measures and lack of economic vitality. It has been a dying city for decades losing population leaving the poor and minorities behind to face the consequences of an uncaring government.

The moral of this story?

To me, anything done to the environment that is not natural has unintended consequences. Plus, the government was penny wise and pound foolish. A sure fire recipe for disaster.

We can also have a discussion on why the rivers of east Texas have fish that contain mercury and dioxins and what the implications are for India and China if anybody wants to discuss.

Thanks for reading my rant......

TSJi, if this is the real reason then all rivers in , Connecticut, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Denver should also be ultra-toxic, hey? How do they avoid it?

Plus New York, New Jersey, (never mind, question answered itself.. Maybe they pour the sewage into the rivers and the chlorine gets cancelled out.

it all depends on the amount of salt run off vs. volume of water.

for instance, NYC gets its water from reservoirs up in the Catskill mountains and beyond. Not much salt gets into those reservoirs and they are pretty darn clean too, other than some cow, deer and bird poop which is dealt with at a treatment plant.

the Flint river is small certainly in comparison to the Mississippi, Ohio and certain other rivers. Plus most communities unlike Flint Mi., do not balk at correcting the ph level if highly acidic.

here is the source that alerted me to the problem......

Rear Admiral Rick Williams, Commander of the US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 15, posted a query on January 8 to the Naval Institutes “Readiness Kill Chain.” It inquired why Navy security and intelligence personal had been dispatched from a Naval Support Facility in Thurmont to an “Obama house hunting mission.” The message has since been deleted.
Within 18 hours of posting the query, Vice Admiral Noral Tyson fired Admiral Williams on orders from President Obama. Her action was reportedly “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command” based on “allegations of his misuse of government computer equipment.”

He can command a Strike Group, but they have no confidence that he can use email and kiss the Rear of the Vice Admiral and everyone on up like she does.

Which goes to show:
The Rear of the Rear Admiral is (in?) the Vice of the Vice Admiral

TSJi:
(As usual), the diagnosis posted from the Usual Quarters is a bit undrinkable. Problem is LEAD poisoning, not sodium/chlorine ions. Apparently one could use the water to boost the octane number of petrol. (not funny, sorry!)
AP Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (2/1) reports that the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) “has undertaken a five-part strategy to determine whether Flint’s water, which has become contaminated with lead, is safe to drink.” The DEQ “said the plan to try to ensure that drinking water no longer is tainted with lead includes residential water testing, school testing, food service and restaurant provider testing, blood testing and overall testing of Flint’s water distribution system.”

Reuters Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (2/1, Pierog) reports that according to Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, the Flint water crisis could pressure Michigan’s finances and could thwart efforts to build up budget reserves. S&P said in a report that replacing the infrastructure, social services, and potential legal settlements could add to the financial pressures on the state. S&P estimated that the cost of replacing the pipes could be as much as $1.5 billion and they expect that the state and local governments will be responsible for paying a majority of the costs to fix the crisis.

NPR Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (2/1, Shapiro) reports on its website and on its program “All Things Considered” about the long-term process of fixing the water infrastructure in Flint. Laura Sullivan, a professor of mechanical engineering at Kettering University in Flint and appointee to the state committee that is trying to fix the water, says that the reality is that all the pipes in Flint will need to be replaced, which “she says, is a process that shouldn’t be rushed.” Sullivan added that over time, a protective film will rebuild inside the corroded pipes, but that is not a long-term solution. NPR also reports that the state is facing problems determining exactly which pipes are lead because of deficiencies with the records and maps.
So there is a lot of merit to the charge of racism. Other communities replaced lead pipes with fine PVC pipes guaranteed to burst at the worst times, causing $2500 repair bills to customers. Now they are selling Pipe Burst Insurance with kickbacks to the Water Authority bureaucrats.

It is an enormous 2,850-acre site, 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles, that was once a top-secret NASA lab.
Santa Susana Field Laboratory now stands unused and frozen in time, slowly rusting and decaying in the elements.
Despite being abandoned for the best part of a decade, the colossal structure still towers over the skyline.

The enormous station, which still has 24-hour surveillance and security, was opened on a craggy plateau in easternmost Ventura County in 1948.

In 1959, it was home to America's first and worst nuclear disaster.

The colossal structure was once home to leading-edge nuclear, solar and sodium technology development, and rocket engine testing
The 2,850-acre facility in Ventura County, which is now owned by Boeing Co. and NASA, has been abandoned since 2006
The metal structures within the site are slowly rusting - in 1959, it was home to the first and worst nuclear disaster in America's history
A reactor had experienced a power surge overnight and spewed radioactive gases into the atmosphere.

To prevent a potentially devastating explosion, workers were ordered to open the exhaust stacks and release massive amounts of radiation into the sky.

As they worked frantically to try and repair the damaged reactor, they realized their efforts were only generating more radioactive gas.

So for weeks, often in the dark of night, they were instructed to open the large door in the reactor building and let out the radiation into the air.

Six weeks after the meltdown, the Atomic Energy Commission issued a press release saying there had been a minor 'fuel element failure' at Area Four's largest reactor in July.

But they said there had been 'no release of radioactive materials' to the environment.

Scott Haefner, who took the pictures, said: 'I find the structures extremely photogenic, especially the juxtaposition of the gargantuan, unfamiliar looking man-made structures nestled among the beautiful, rocky landscape and rolling hills'

In July 1959, the site suffered a partial nuclear meltdown that has been named 'the worst in U.S. history', releasing an undisclosed amount of radioactivity

It was not until 1979 details of the incident were disclosed, when a group of UCLA students discovered documents and photographs that referred to a problem at the site involving a 'melted blob.'

Ever since, residents have worried about downstream health risks associated with soil contaminated by years of rocket and nuclear testing.

Despite that, scientists at the site conducted nuclear research for the government until 1988.

Since then, the station has stood empty, its metal structure slowly rusting as it lies abandoned.

Scott Haefner, 41, from San Francisco, hiked miles up and over a rocky terrain mountain to avoid the security at the site and take pictures.

He said: 'While it's fun sneaking around and accessing off-limits places, I also think it's important to document historic structures like these before they're gone.

'The rocket engine test that supported the space program and Intercontinental Ballistic Missile ICBM programs took place here.

'In addition, the site was used for testing and developing nuclear reactors, including the first reactor launched into outer space by the US.

'It wasn't until the 2000s that concerned citizens began demanding health studies and started pressuring the US government to begin modern clean-up efforts.

'The reactor and support systems were removed in 1981 and that building was torn down in 1999. So I hopefully I wasn't exposed to any radiation.

'My main goal is to create artistic shots that resonate with people.
'Some of the stands are hundreds of feet tall, a maze of steel platforms, catwalks, ladders, and support structures.

'I find the structures extremely photogenic, especially the juxtaposition of the gargantuan, unfamiliar looking man-made structures nestled among the beautiful, rocky landscape and rolling hills.'

"I'm a Christian first, American second." - Ted Cruz, GOP #IowaCaucus winner. Imagine if a Muslim or Jewish person said something similar.
Surely, the non existent leftists in USA will keep reminding people of such and such therein, unlike leftists in India who seem to have un-heard "India First" by NaMo.

There’s a ‘Special Place in Hell’ for Madeleine Albright. Here’s Why
http://usuncut.com/politics/special-pla ... -albright/
( A true evil who publicly justified killing 500k Iraqi children on national TV CBS)
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is making headlines today after her appearance at a Hillary Clinton rally. Standing beside a laughing Clinton, she said “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.”What isn’t making headlines is the irony of someone who was responsible for the deaths of 2,000 civilians, including 88 children, pretending to have any moral judgement whatsoever.Albright was one of the leading proponents of NATO’s bombing of Serbia in 1999, so much so that many referred to the operation as “Madeleine’s War.”Albright’s airstrikes destroyed more than 300 schools, libraries, and over 20 hospitals.“Why? Why civilians?” lamented airstrike survivor Dragan Ciric. “It still torments me. If the first rocket was a mistake, what were the next three for?”
So why did Albright participate in these war crimes? Apparently, to share in the spoils of war. Many former top Clinton officials swooped into war-torn Serbia and secured millions of dollars in contracts ironically designed to help “rebuild” Serbia and the new nation they helped to create, Kosovo. As the New York Times put it, “So many former American officials have returned to Kosovo for business — in coal and telecommunications, or for lobbying and other lucrative government contracts — that it is hard to keep them from colliding.”Albright’s company Albright Capital Management aggressively bid for Kosovo’s telecommunications company PTK — its most prosperous asset. While this purchase would have been worth upwards of $600 million for Albright, it was also discovered that her sister company, Albright Stonebridge Group, held shares in PTK’s only competition.Critics busted Albright of trying to create a monopoly in Kosovo which would have destroyed all market competition in the fledgling nation. She was forced to quietly pull out of the sale, but she’s still managed to profit quite nicely from the shady business move. Her net worth is estimated to be upwards of $10 million.Excluding her recent appearance at Hillary Clinton’s campaign event, the last time Albright made headlines was when a group of Serbian activists showed up to one of her book signings and asked her to sign posters depicting some of her war victims. She called them “Disgusting Serbs” and screamed at them to “Get out, get out, get out!” The “Disgusting Serbs comment can be heard at the 1:02 mark of this video:https://youtu.be/1FaPuBUY558

Former SDOTUS officials referred to her with a shudder as "Stupid *****". But clearly she was uber-smart when it came to profiting off public service. Would be a credit to the Pakistan guvrmand.

American Elections:

you vote for John Kerry, George Bush says thank you for voting on receipt.

Lone caucusgoer voted Bernie -- BUT Hillary won precinct...
:rotfl:
Iowans claim instances when Sanders was shorted delegates

Keane Schwarz is certain he knows the outcome of the vote in his precinct: He was the lone caucusgoer in Woodbury County No. 43.

But the Iowa Democratic Party's final results state that Hillary Clinton won one county delegate and Bernie Sanders received zero....

CNN: Record number of Americans dump U.S. passports
It's a trend that's been increasing in recent years. Many of those severing links are Americans living overseas who are tired of dealing with complicated tax paperwork, a headache that has worsened since new regulations came into effect.

Eighteen times as many Americans renounced their citizenship or long-term residency in 2015 compared with 2008. Last year was the third record-breaking year in a row.

Unlike most other countries, the U.S. taxes its citizens on all income, no matter where it's earned or where they live. For Americans living abroad, that results in a mountain of paperwork so complex that they are often forced to seek professional help, forking out high fees for accountants and lawyers.

The burden has gotten heavier in recent years with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, which became law in 2010.

It requires individuals to report certain foreign assets and banks to disclose all foreign accounts held by Americans. That comes on top of another rule that requires Americans to disclose foreign bank holdings above $10,000.

The regulations are part of a U.S. government campaign to fight tax evasion, given added impetus after major Swiss banks admitted to helping Americans hide assets offshore.

But those efforts are making life difficult for the 7.6 million Americans living abroad.

As financial institutions grapple with FATCA, some overseas banks -- both big and small -- have ditched their U.S. clients, leaving some without even basic checking and savings accounts. That's because banks that mistakenly fail to report any accounts held by Americans outside the U.S. can face steep penalties.

Some wealthy Americans who are renouncing their citizenship may end up paying lower taxes in the future. But it's illegal to give up U.S. status to dodge paying a tax bill -- and doing so doesn't mean authorities won't come looking for back taxes.
