Why not act as middle man in an arrangement where in we import Gulf LNG, re-gasify it and sell it to UP, Bihar, MP, Jharkhand, Odisha? After all these lesser developed states can certainly use extra bit of energy.

Point being we should spend our energy and effort in developing our lesser developed states. Helping Paki is the wrong priority.

D-Chowk: Pakistan’s domestic Kargil
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/opinion/18 ... tic-kargil
Pakistan is now into the second month of the twin dharnas (sit-ins) by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in and around the D-Chowk of the federal capital. These 30 plus days have shaken virtually nothing. The elected Prime Minister (PM), Mian Nawaz Sharif, though rattled initially, remains firmly at the helm. The Khan-Qadri duo blew a lot of hot air from atop their cargo containers but failed to deliver the goods that they had promised their minders. Even by the most generous estimates the crowds did not surpass more than 20,000 on the PTI/PAT’s best days. Those within the security establishment, who had egged on these two firebrands to bring down the democratic system, were clearly not prepared for the sit-ins turning out to be total duds. The dharna debacle at D-Chowk is effectively the security establishment’s domestic Kargil: an ill-timed and ill-planned adventure gone terribly awry with no exit strategy in sight.Like in the summer of 1999, when the Northern Light Infantry men and irregulars sneaked up the Kargil heights without giving much thought to the opponent’s range of retaliatory options, the container mounted Khan-Qadri double barrelled shotgun was discharged against the democratic setup without considering the contingency plans if the elected PM did not resign on their whim. However, blinded by their hate for democracy and Nawaz Sharif, one reason for which is his pledge to make public the inquiry into the Kargil fiasco, they decided to play roughshod. The establishment simply had not liked the results of the 2013 elections to begin with and was palpably uncomfortable with its nemesis, Mian Nawaz Sharif, securing a comfortable majority in both Punjab and at the Centre. Drumming up electoral rigging allegations 14 months after the fact was merely a ruse to destabilise him. The establishment has been blocking the PM every step of the way even before the December 2013 change of guard in Rawalpindi. Mr Sharif was not allowed to make key diplomatic appointments to the US, UK and India. His original nominee to lead the Pakistan High Commission in the UK, Mr Kamran Shafi, drew a particularly rancorous response from khaki quarters. Ultimately, the PM agreed to appointing career diplomats to all three positions.
PM Sharif’s peace initiative with India was torpedoed after the Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi decided to meet the Kashmiri separatists just before the foreign secretary-level talks. Mr Nawaz Sharif opening a direct diplomatic channel to Afghan President Hamid Karzai through the Pashtun nationalist leader Mahmud Khan Achakzai further ruffled feathers in Rawalpindi, where they saw it as trespassing on its exclusive domain. The establishment wanted to put an end to the civilians slowly chipping away at its monopoly or even holding it at a standstill. The in-house change in the National Assembly was not viable numerically and the former president, Asif Zardari, had judiciously closed the door on the undemocratic dismissals of elected governments by divesting himself of those powers that his predecessors had repeatedly used on the security establishment’s instructions. The establishment became exponentially desperate. The drama at D-Chowk is but a political equivalent of the Kargil infiltration. Just as the Kargil misadventure was the military’s desperate and reckless attempt to ostensibly break the status quo with India with utter disregard for the consequences, the Khan-Qadri assault on parliament has been designed to reverse the small gains the democratic dispensation has made vis-à-vis the praetorian guard since 2008. Months into his third stint, Mr Sharif was perceived by the establishment to be getting too big for his boots already. Rumours have been rife for the past five months that elements within the caverns of the security establishment were itching to show him the door. That these unabashed Bonapartists have, in connivance with a handful of politicians, set the current events in motion has been asserted repeatedly now by none other than the president of Imran Khan’s own party, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.
The Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Asim Bajwa, has expressed his dismay at the army being mentioned as the “scriptwriter” of the farcical tragedy unfolding in Islamabad. He tried abysmally to dispel the impression that certain corps commanders had suggested imposing martial law, and said, “Everyone is allowed to discuss their opinions in a free and frank manner but the army chief’s decision is considered final and troops follow his lead.” General Bajwa’s failure to categorically state that neither the chief nor the generals even considered imposing martial law suggests, prima facie, that there indeed had been some discussion about mounting a coup d’état. This is an ominous sign and underscores the wayward institutional thought process that has produced four overt adventurists in the past. Why should there be any “free and frank” discussion about an insurrection at the highest military forum at such a critical political juncture? What justification did they have to even bring up the putsch as an option? Have they not learnt one bit from history?General Bajwa went on to quote the army chief’s speech some months ago on how the “armed forces of Pakistan believe in the continuity of democracy and upholding of constitution and law. This is the only way the country can make its way into the ranks of developed countries.” On the face of it, the statement is reassuring, but scratch the surface and underneath is the same mindset that detests civilian supremacy in the affairs of the state. The military spokesman could not bring himself to state unequivocally that the armed forces will uphold the constitution and serve as and when commanded by an elected civilian government. The generic lip service to the constitution indicates prevaricating if not withholding an unqualified allegiance to the elected civilian government. The Irish journalist Claud Cockburn had aptly said, “Never believe anything until it has been officially denied.” The mischief still seems afoot. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is reportedly being strong-armed into taking up General Pervez Musharraf’s trial as its cause, accommodate him as a leader and also join forces with the Khan-Qadri duo to salvage the political Kargil at D-Chowk from unravelling.

In the grand scheme of things, the Paki Fauj was VICTORIOUS as it survived to fight democracy another day!

PTDC’s new buses for India-Pakistan service causing revenue loss

Image

ISLAMABAD: The government’s controversial decision to purchase four new buses with low capacity for carrying luggage for the Pakistan-India Bus Service has given an edge to India to get a major portion of the revenue, sources told Dawn on Wednesday.

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) recently bought four 42-seat buses for the service, but these vehicles have inadequate capacity to accommodate the baggage of passengers. On the other hand, the Indian buses have ample luggage-carrying racks.

The sources said the first Lahore-bound bus of the newly-purchased four buses arrived from Delhi on Tuesday, but it carried only 32 passengers instead of its capacity of 42 because the luggage of 32 passengers was more than the available luggage capacity of the buses.

A senior PTDC official, who did not want to be identified, said the corporation had discarded the previous fleet of Hinopak buses which had the extra capacity to carry 600 to 700kg while the Daewoo buses had no capacity to accommodate extra baggage.

Under prescribed rules, every passenger can carry only 20kg of luggage but it is a normal practice that people take extra baggage with them and they pay extra charges to the PTDC.

“Earlier, the PTDC used to earn over Rs10 million in a month in terms of extra charges on extra baggage, but with the low baggage carrying capacity buses the corporation will not only lose revenue but also passengers because they will prefer to travel in Indian buses which are more spacious and have more capacity to accommodate extra luggage,” the official said.

It is normal for the visiting people of the two countries to take gifts, souvenirs etc for relatives and friends when they visit each other’s country.

The PTDC recently purchased four Daewoo buses at cost Rs12.5 million each (total Rs50 million) from Rs100 million grant recently released by the government. However, more spacious buses could have been purchased for the service to cater to the need of passengers.

It has been learnt that the management of the PTDC did not consult the department concerned while purchasing the new buses.

“The decision to purchase new buses was solely made by the managing director of the corporation despite the fact that the manager of the bus service advised him not to buy low-baggage capacity vehicles,” another official of the PTDC claimed.

Several attempts were made by Dawn to contact PTDC Managing Director Chaudhry Kabir and in-charge of the bus service retired Col Khalid, but they were not available to comment on the issue.

After an upsurge in violence in Karachi,
Dr Muhammad Shakil Auj, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies at Karachi University, who belongs to a Sunni school of thought, blames it on the failed system of punishment in society.

“The terrorists go unpunished. If by any chance they are arrested, a stream of phone calls from influential people set them free.”

He quotes the 33rd verse from Surah Maida where punishment for terrorists is given. “The terrorist should be mercilessly killed, or crucified; his limbs from opposite ends should be cut off or he should be exiled — here exile does not mean sent off to a European country but confined to a small space. His movement should be curtailed.”

He condemns the hypocrisy of religious leaders who lead their public life very different from their private life. “In front of television camera they condemn sectarian killings, and when in the privacy of their homes they mock other schools of thought.”

On November 6, 2012, Dr Auj had registered an FIR 460/12 in the Mobina Town police station, stating that a message, declaring him guilty of blasphemy, and thus liable to be killed, was circulated via a mobile phone number, 0303 273 8856.

The FIR, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, stated that the deceased professor wanted the police to take legal action against those responsible for circulating this message because the accusation of blasphemy with the explicit words ‘Dr Shakil Auj maloun ki saza, sar tan se juda [Beheading is the punishment of accursed Dr Shakeel Auj]‘ could get him killed.

Later, during police investigations, the names of four of Dr Auj’s colleagues, including a former dean of Islamic Studies Faculty, Dr Abdul Rasheed, surfaced for their alleged involvement in the circulation of these text messages.

Dr Rasheed was formally arrested by the police under Section 25 of the Telegraph Act and Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case pertaining to sending objectionable text messages to Dr Auj through a third person. He was, however, granted bail by a judicial magistrate on November 28, 2012 in the case.

“It still remains a very serious matter. We cannot proceed with the investigations without reverting to the four colleagues and interrogating them yet again,” said SSP Shah. “And it may be that someone was not happy with the orientation of his research.”
http://www.dawn.com/news/1132830/ku-dea ... -shot-dead
During investigation, two persons including a former dean of the faculty of Islamic studies of the KU, Dr Abdul Rasheed, were ‘interrogated’, said the DIG-East. He revealed that the late doctor had received a threatening message over his purported controversial lecture and the message contained that a famous seminary in Korangi had issued a fatwa against him over his alleged blasphemous uttering. But when Dr Auj approached the seminary, they denied having issued such a fatwa against him.

Second, Munir Ahmed Shaikh said, the late dean had taken a ‘serious notice’ of ‘fake degrees’ in Islamic studies awarded by some KU professors. “We have opened the case file and would also collect the information about the two persons detained in the past,” said the senior police officer. He said Prof Shakeel Auj had received such threatening texts when he took up the fake degrees issue.

However, Dr Abdul Rasheed, now dean of the faculty of theology at the Federal Urdu University, told Dawn that it was an “old case” and he was “acquitted” in it. Later on, he had filed a defamation suit against Dr Auj, which was also confirmed by the DIG-East.

The woman is extraordinarily stupid.

i have said time and again that "liberalism is a small area of wiggle room allowed within a sea of conservatives". The USA is past master at this. This idiotic woman is using that liberal wiggle room allowed in the US to have her ass phucked in public and helping the public build up opinions against what she represents.

She appears like a "useful idiot". After hearing her speak no one in the US will object to MOAB, PBUH, SAW or JDAM bombs being dropped on Hamas.

Which goes on to show that all this blasphemy bull cattle nonsense is all about money and revenge.

I just saw the video, and it was more shocking than just reading about these people's attitudes.

Here is a thought: the amount of "taqiya" in the sense of outright lying about one's malevolent intentions is exaggerated. Time and again, if only we paid attention to what these people are actually saying, their intentions become very clear.

On the other hand, the amount of misunderstanding, or inability to hear what is actually being said by these people, is huge, so in effect, there is some sort of complex equivocation going on, besides plain truth telling as the UCSD student was doing.

So, taquiya is a highly sophisticated and successful form of equivocation, that deserves respect and study, not dismissal as "lies." It requires active cooperation of the target audience just as much as a confidence trick requires the willing cooperation of the "mark" or victim.

KARACHI: Police on Friday interrogated University of Karachi faculty in connection with the murder of a professor of Islam known for his liberal views who had been labeled a “blasphemer” in a text message campaign.

Dr Mohammad Shakil Auj, the 54-year-old dean of Islamic Studies at the university, was called an apostate in the widely-circulated message that said he should be beheaded after he issued controversial religious decrees.

If we instead stated the truth "Professor was killed because another professor lost the job to him", no one could hide behind the blasphemy accusation. Just saying.

It began with "we can't accept parliamentary majority or united Indian Constitution because the majority is Hindu and we are pristine Muslims" and it is now ending in "prof was killed because he said women can wear nail polish and we are pristine Muslims".

I for one refuse to participate in perpetuating this farce. When rest of humanity kills, it is murder. When Pakistanis kill, suddenly it is justified by Islam?

Al Qaeda Militants Tried to Seize Pakistan Navy Frigate
Al Qaeda Raid Foiled After Firefight Involving Rogue Naval Officers

KARACHI, Pakistan—Al Qaeda militants tried to hijack a Pakistan Navy frigate earlier this month and use it to target U.S. Navy vessels on antiterrorism patrol in the northwestern Indian Ocean, Pakistani security officials said.

The Sept. 6 raid, which was foiled after a fire fight and a suicide bombing, was carried out in part by Pakistan Navy personnel who had been recruited by al Qaeda, these officials said. The raid, in which 10 militants and one petty officer died, raised fears about terrorist infiltration of the nuclear-armed nation's military forces.

"Without assistance from inside, these people could not have breached security," Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said about the incident at a recent parliament session.

The Karachi raid was the first major operation carried out by al Qaeda's newly formed regional wing, al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, according to counterterrorism officials. The timing of the raid may have been set to mark the start of the affiliate or to coincide roughly with the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Western security officials believe.

News of the attempted seizure of the frigate, PNS Zulfiqar, was initially kept from the media, and the details of the incident are only beginning to emerge.

The Pakistan Navy works closely with the U.S. Navy and other foreign maritime forces in combating terrorism, piracy and the drug trade in the Indian Ocean. That cooperation includes the docking of ships from allied nations in Karachi, Pakistan's largest port.

"If we are to work with the Pakistan Navy, we have to be able to trust them. This attack raises a lot of questions," said a Western counterterrorism official.

The Karachi plot has drawn comparison with the October 2000 attack on U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole by al Qaeda in the Yemeni port of Aden, in which 17 U.S. sailors died.

"The Pakistan Navy very bravely thwarted this attack. There was no damage of any kind to our installations," Mr. Asif said.

It isn't unheard of for al Qaeda to recruit within the Pakistani military, a U.S. official said, but "these occurrences are rare." Still, there have been several attacks on military facilities and personnel in Pakistan carried out with the help of serving and retired military.

In the attempted seizure of PNS Zulfiqar, "the rogue officers were in uniform and had their service cards displayed. They simply walked on board," one Pakistani security official said.

Pakistani officials said the frigate was due to sail the same day to join an international naval flotilla in the Indian Ocean. On Aug. 15, Pakistan took over from Britain's Royal Navy the command of Combined Task Force-150, a multinational maritime security coalition that includes the U.S. and is focused on combating terrorism.

"It appears the officers on board were to be joined by other militants who were to arrive by boat from the sea and then stow away on board," the Pakistani security official said. "The plan was to get close to the U.S. ships on the high seas, and then turn the shipboard weapon systems on the Americans." The frigate's weaponry includes an antiship missile system with a range of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles).

The militants' plan was foiled primarily by the alertness of PNS Zulfiqar's gunner. His vigilance was probably sharpened, Pakistani officials said, by the security precautions implemented since recent intelligence led to the arrest of a gang of Uzbek militants planning an attack on Pakistan Navy facilities. Official maps and details of naval facilities were also found on militants captured in the tribal area of Waziristan on the Afghan border four days before the Karachi attack. The militants who were supposed to board PNS Zulfiqar approached the docked ship in an inflatable boat, wearing Marine uniforms.

"The gunner felt they were too close and their weapons appeared to be AK-47s, which aren't standard Marine issue," a Pakistani security official said. "The gunner turned his sights on them and fired a warning shot. The militants, fearing the game was up, also retaliated with rockets and automatic weapons."

At the sound of the firing, Marines and naval commandos rushed to the ship and were engaged by the renegade officers awaiting the militants on the inflatable boat.

While those on board the ship continued to fight it out for a few hours, the ones in the inflatable boat had no chance, security officials said. The gunner ripped apart the boat with his Gatling antiaircraft gun, killing all six in the boat.

The four rogue naval men were killed aboard the frigate, officials said. The battle ended when the last surviving rogue naval officer—a young Navy sublieutenant—blew himself up after being surrounded.

Pakistani military officials are divided over how much damage could have been accomplished. "Taking over an attack frigate is not a joke, as measures are already in place to face eventualities such as mutiny," one said.

Among those killed on the inflatable boat was former Pakistan Navy Lt. Owais Jakhrani. Officials said he had been recently dismissed for harboring extremist views. He was the son of a serving Karachi police superintendent, and Pakistani intelligence officials believe he played the key role in recruiting naval personnel to al Qaeda.Four other people involved in the attack were later arrested, Pakistan officials say.

"I can neither confirm nor deny the involvement of naval officials," said the Pakistan Navy's spokesman, Commodore Nadeem Bokhari. "All I can say is that four of the attackers were arrested, the attack was successfully prevented and investigations into it are continuing."

Al Qaeda's claim of responsibility includes a photo of what it says are the target U.S. ships—possibly taken earlier by one of the renegade Pakistani naval officers. Al Qaeda's statement also included a diagram of the layout of PNS Zulfiqar.

A Western counterterrorism official said the intended target could have been an American naval supply ship deployed in the Indian Ocean.

"If they hadn't been detected, the minimal damage would have been similar to the USS Cole in 2000. However, if they had somehow managed to maneuver the weapons systems, then we are talking about a full scale naval engagement," said another Pakistani security official.

The attempted strike was initially claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, which works closely with al Qaeda. Then, on Sept. 10, the new al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent issued its own claim.

"The naval officers who had captured the PNS Zulfiqar intended to use it to attack American ships and Marines," said the AQIS statement. "They were ready to render any sacrifice, including carrying out a martyrdom operation and were only prevented by bombardment by the Pakistan Navy."

The newly appointed AQIS chief, Asim Umar, is largely unknown, officials say, but the group's top military council includes several well-known Pakistani militants.

Following the Sept. 6 raid, three naval officials were arrested in Quetta near the Afghan border. Security officials said, as they were trying to flee to Taliban- and al Qaeda-controlled havens along the border or within Afghanistan.

Looks more like hooch brewing equipment than an aircraft of any description. The TTP media wing needs to take a few lessons from their birathers ISIS on how to lie more convincingly.

Another Paki's IT talent unrecognized due to conspiracy

While Baloch’s research led to the fixing of the AOSP Browser bug, the internet giant disqualified him for any reward or credit for his contribution. :((
“Android does not currently have a vulnerability rewards programme. Android is covered in the Patch Rewards Programme though,” Josh Armour from Android Security told Baloch, according to the email correspondence between the two. “Given that this [the bug] was published before we had a chance to provide patches, this specific report would not qualify,” Armour wrote to Baloch.
Disappointed with Google’s response, the researcher said he disclosed the bug more than two weeks prior to publishing the same so it was “Google’s fault for not being able to reproduce it.{true nature of Pakistaniyat comes oozing out!}
