I think amending the constitution so that the fundamentalists do not have the law protecting them when they commit violence in the name of "religious offence" is more important than releasing religious census. Currently, the legal framework actually rewards intolerant religious fundamentalist aholes by providing them legal constitutional protection --- that needs to go, along with making civil codes uniform and all other civil religious codes subservient to this uniform civil codes. India has a constitution that is effed up when it comes to protecting individual rights even to a minimal extent -- maybe it is time to fix it to resolve these problems, rather than make the ground fertile for mob violence, which may happen anyway, since the state is mostly useless in providing protection to individuals.

The "reasonable restrictions" on free speech has to be clarified to state exactly what it means, since restrictions to speech are needed to avoid public disorder, but if the State capitulates to violent groups by stopping anyone from "offending" violent groups, the war for a sane future is already lost.

What do the Mullahs here think of this outrage by the RAA Agintz?

Reading about this, it is easy to see how the Mozambique Embasy DUIriver and entire brood managed to exit on T-vijas - the MHA appears to have their thumbs firmly up their (never mind) while all these things happen.

What if someone has just committed a murder, but the MHA finds their "documents in order" and they have a "ticket given to them from outside the country" ?

x-posted from the Indian Coast Guard thread...

Last week there was a minor incident at Thiruvananthapuram coast in Kerala. I don't know if the national media high lighted it very much. The Coast Guard vessel on patrol had spotted a fishing vessel moving suspiciously. So she followed the fishing vessel who suddenly started increasing the speed. Coast Guard vessel put on their siren, made announcement, and even fired a few warning shots. The fishing trawler tried to become a Kejriwal (Bhagoda), and finally Coast Guard ship fired a few rounds.

This fishing trawler was from Tamil Nadu and going to a Port in Kerala. The helmsman had no required licenses/documents and the trawler too seems to be not having all ID papers in place. The licensed Sraank (Helmsman??) had got down at a port - Muttom in TN itself.

These incidents just prove that the fishermen are acting too smart and dodging the law and order machinery given a chance. And when SL Navy etc. gives them back in good measure they start whining and expects GoI to bat on their behalf.

Oh! Elementary onlee! If they manage to evade for 60 minutes, it will become "highly suspicious" that the Coast Guard took 1 hour to chase them down, so it becomes the Coast Guard's fault.

For every one of these, how many speed boats that ARE faster than the CG boats, and have radar/radar detectors, escape?

Absentia Funeral Prayer Conducted in Hyderabad for Architects of Paris Terror Strike

16/01/2015 Based on Media reports

A ‘Gayabana Namaz-e-Janaza’ or funeral prayer in absentia was held in Hyderabad led by Jihadi cleric Maulana Naseeruddin, for the architects of the French terror strike, which happened last week. The Jihadis were two brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, who attacked the French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo killing 12 people.

Maulana Naseeruddin is a controversial cleric who was earlier associated with Jamat-e-Islami leader. This time, he has praised the Jihadis of Paris attack as ‘Khatilan-e-Dushmanan-e-Rasool (killers of the enemies of Prophet)’.

According to sources, the funeral prayer was conducted under the banner of Wahdat-e-Islami. It was attended by as many as 50 people. An Urdu banner was placed at the meeting, which read “Absentia funeral prayer of martyrs who took insulters of prophet to logical end.”

Naseeruddin also seemed to be instigating Muslims to take law into their hands to safeguard the Prophet’s integrity when he said, “When there is no Islamic government, it is the individual Muslim’s responsibility to execute the punishment. We fully support their (Paris killers) act and hence we are here for funeral prayer.”

“May Allah pardon Saeed and Shariff, the two youths who avenged enemies of our beloved prophet. May Allah protect their family, relatives and friends from torture and arrest. Those Muslims, who have been arrested on the basis of suspicion, may Allah grant them release,” Maulana Naseeruddhin is said to have stated in a meeting, following the prayer services.

He further went on to support the spate of terror indulged in by the brothers, justifying the killings. “There is a fatwa that if a person mocking our beloved prophet is still standing alive than our (Muslims) lives are worthless. Insulting Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) is a heinous crime, and Allah ordered death sentence for the person in the Quran. It was in accordance to human values and according to Shariat,” he said.

Naseeruddhin and his family are suspected Jihadis, the Maulana himself being arrested twice for suspected involvement in Sai Baba temple blast case and Haren Pandya assassination case. His two sons were arrested by Madhya Pradesh ATS in connection with alleged involvement in SIMI conspiracy case. The youngest one is currently serving a prison term in Karnataka for a terror conspiracy case.

Communal violence: Western U.P. on edge

Protesters took to the streets after a slaughtered animal was found outside a religious place in Sahukara Naugaon area in Bareilly on Thursday morning. Police had to resort to lathicharge to control the rioting mob.

Though the western U.P. town did not see any communal clashes, the situation was tense and affected other parts of the city. Two companies of PAC were deployed to control the situation as the city remained on edge even on Friday.

Residents in Bareilly alleged that the police failed to take any action despite the incident being the third in two weeks. An infuriated crowd blocked traffic on the Bareilly-Delhi highway for several hours after which the police had to intervene.

Later, local BJP leaders also protested, demanding the arrest of culprits. Police registered an FIR against unidentified persons for defiling the religious place. About 400 people, including local BJP leaders, were also booked for rioting and obstructing police from doing their duty.

DIG R. K. S. Rathore said the police have formed teams to nab the culprits who were trying to vitiate the atmosphere. The incident is the latest in a series of communally provocative episodes in different parts of western U.P. that have kept the region on the boil.

IPS officers take charge of key security, intelligence agencies

This is in keeping with PM Narendra Modi’s style of working in which he appoints specialists in place of generalists.

ABHINANDAN MISHRA New Delhi | 17th Jan 2015

Officers from the Indian Police Service have taken control of all key investigative, intelligence gathering and security agencies like the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Special Protection Group (SPG), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) and Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW), under the new dispensation. The thrust on appointing IPS officials at posts that require deep understanding of the security scenario is in consonance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's style of working, in which he prefers using specialists in place of generalists. This is a departure from the previous practice of appointing people from other administrative cadres to these posts.

Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs said that National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Kumar Doval, who is himself from the IPS cadre, also played a key role in pushing for appointing specialists at these vital posts. The fact that PM Modi chose Doval as his NSA, shows the intention of the former to entrust the vital job to someone who is an expert in internal security.

Doval's experience is totally different from his predecessor in the UPA government, Shivshankar Menon, who was a seasoned diplomat, more known for his skills in international affairs and geopolitics than in security. Doval, on the other hand, made his name in internal security and law enforcement.

Anil Kumar Sinha, who was appointed the CBI director after replacing Ranjit Sinha, is an IPS officer of the 1979 batch. Similarly, Dineshwar Sharma, who has been recently appointed as the director of internal spy agency IB is also an IPS. The 1989 batch Gujarat cadre Vivek Shrivastava, who was made the SPG chief, is also from the IPS. The latest of all these appointments, Rajinder Khanna as the chief of R&AW, was also done with the intention of appointing a specialist.

Khanna was originally from the IPS cadre, but later moved to the Research and Analysis Service (RAS) cadre. Similarly, another RAS cadre officer, Arvind Saxena, was appointed as the director of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC), a wing of R&AW, which reports directly to Doval. It was Doval who pushed for appointing former R&AW chief Alok Joshi, who was also originally from the IPS cadre, as the new head of the NTRO.

There have been numerous instances in the past where officials from other administrative cadres have been made chiefs of these posts. In the past, Ashok Chaturvedi, a 1970-batch IAS officer, was appointed R&AW chief. In early 2000, Vikram Sood, who was from the Indian Postal Service, was made the R&AW chief. Most recently, the name of D.P. Sinha, a Tripura cadre IAS officer, was almost finalised for the post of IB chief following the retirement of Asif Ibrahim, but the need to have an IPS officer was felt and Dineshwar Sharma was made the new IB chief.

About time.
Following reports that the live coverage of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai had helped those handling the gunmen, the Home Ministry had asked the I&B Ministry to amend rules so that live coverage of anti-terror operations by TV channels were banned.
If Barkha Dutt doesn't have the decency to admit she aided the terrorists with her reporting, maybe throwing her in prison for a few years the next time she behaves like an oiseaule will teach her a thing or two, or maybe not.

All is good.. except that outside hiring of professionals from private sector should be considered for NTRO. The skill gap in IT between private industry players and government servants is just HUGE and cannot be bridged by any sort of training. I would have liked to see the news that an accomplished technology professional is heading NTRO (or acting in key technical roles in NTRO). If non technical people head such organizations, they can easily be hoodwinked by incompetent lower cadre and middle management.

People's Lepubric of Berkelistan in action?
PATNA, India (AP) — At least three Muslims were burned to death Sunday when their thatched huts were set on fire during a clash between Hindu and Muslim groups in a village in eastern India, a government official said. Atul Prasad, a Bihar state administrator, said the violence erupted after the body of a young Hindu boy was found on a farm in Sarayian village more than a week after he went missing.Prasad said the Hindu fishermen community blamed Muslims for killing the boy who was friendly with a Muslim girl from the village, nearly 105 kilometers (65 miles) north of Patna, the capital of Bihar state. The charred bodies of three Muslims were found in huts set on fire, he said.
Police have arrested eight Hindu villagers for burning nearly two dozen huts in the poor Muslim community.
But Indrajit Singh's reporting misses several key Required Points:
a) No mention that "India is ruled by a Hindu Nationalist ... who was accused in Virginia Court of genocide"
b) No mention that "Hindu-ruled India and Democratic, Secular Pakistan have fought 4 wars over Muslim-majority Cash-More"

Don't know but we haven't really seen any sustained large-scale state-wide riots in the 24x7 twitter-FB mobile-WhatsApp enabled era yet. Except for Muzzarfarnagar. And the numerous localized ones in WB.

What that odes to information flows, disinformation flows and propagandu driven craziness is unpredictable. If color revolutions could be organized, I shudder to think what a malicious and systematic enemy could do with our inflammable social fabric....

Am sure the Ajit Doval sarkar is on it. But still, can;t be too careful about something like this...

Large scale riots are not that common in Bihar ( apart from partition riots and Bhagalpur), small times incidents do happen, but effects does not linger on and "normalcy" returns soon.

My estimate is Muslim population will be between 14-14.2%, Hindu population between 79.7-79.9%. Rest will be almost same. KL, WB and AS will show 2-3% growth in Muslim percentage. UP 1-2%. However, the leaked data suggests increases in UK and MH as well. The difference in growth rate is going to remain 50% i.e. Muslim vs non-Muslim.

Overall their population growth has slowed down. The gap between muslims pop growth (24%) and overall pop growth (18%) over the decade reflects a 6% gap. 6% is the lowest i have seen in the last 4 census reports. They may very well reach a TFR of 2.2 within a decade. Beyond that stage, there is no point blaming muslims. Any sensible family will have 2 kids. At that stage, if a gap still persists, the culprits are these modern urban hindus who like to have just 1 kid.

@muraliravi

Perhaps you should open a new thread to discuss the data that is going to come out includiing stuff other than religion.

The TOI report suggests that while there has been a decline overall and in Muslim population the difference is the same as before i.e. demographic change is going to continue. A low TFR is nothing to be happy about as far as demographic change is concerned. A test case is Kerala. If you believe wiki Muslims are already majority per live birth. I think something has happened to Kerala Hindus and Christians specially the former as they have stopped reproducing. I would like forum members from Kerala to analyze why. In Bengal I can see two things. The first is that Hindus now have one kids and the second that due to lack of economic opportunities they cannot afford to have family or kids even if they want to. The Muslims on the other hand are economically worse off but continue to have relatively bigger families. Plus illegal immigration. Without faster decline in Muslim fertility the demographic change is going to continue even if the overall population starts reaching saturation. This is similar to European countries which are much below TFR of 2.1 but the Muslim population continues to grow. I would suggest that the Govt carries out targeted health and education efforts in districts with high TFR.

At least SHQ & I have made a pact that we will have 2 kids minimum and if possible, go for a third, just to make up for the loss of Hindu kids these aforementioned morons are causing.

Two killed in bomb explosion at Indian court: TV reports - Straits Times
A bomb explosion at a court killed at least two people and left more than a dozen injured in the eastern Indian state of Bihar on Friday, television channels reported.

The CNN-IBN network said that one of the dead was a woman who was carrying the bomb while a policeman was also killed. The NDTV network, meanwhile, reported that two people had been killed and 14 others injured.

The explosion comes amid tightened security across India ahead of the arrival of US President Barack Obama for a three-day visit on Sunday.

Morarji Desai compromised deep assets in Pakistan.

Know how Morarji Desai botched up RAW's most daring plan, Operation Kahuta
The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's external intelligence agency launched Operation Kahuta in 1977 to infiltrate into Pakistan's atomic energy installations.

Operation Kahuta is regarded by many as one of the most daring operations ever conducted by RAW.

The only reason it failed was due to a grave blunder by an Indian Prime Minister.

Kahuta is the site of the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Pakistan’s main nuclear weapons laboratory as well as an emerging center for long-range missile development.

The primary Pakistani fissile-material production facility is located at Kahuta, employing gas centrifuge enrichment technology to produce Highly Enriched Uranium (necessary for nuclear weapons).

RAW first confirmed Pakistan’s nuclear programs by analyzing the hair samples of scientists taken from the floor of barber shops near KRL; which showed that Pakistan had developed the ability to enrich uranium to weapons-grade quality.

RAW agents knew of Kahuta Research Laboratories from at least early 1978, when the then Indian Prime Minister, Morarji Desai stopped RAW's operations on Pakistan’s covert nuclear weapons program.

In an indiscreet moment in a telephone conversation one day, Morarji Desai informed the then Pakistan President, Zia-ul-Haq, that India was aware of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program.

According to later reports, acting on this “tip-off”, Pakistani intelligence eliminated RAW’s agents in Kahuta, leaving India in the dark about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program from then onwards.
Here is another description:
RAW-Mossad relations were a secret till Morarji Desai became prime minister in 1977. RAW officials had alerted him about the Zia-ul Haq regime's plans to acquire nuclear capability. While French assistance to Pakistan for a plutonium reprocessing plant was well known, the uranium enrichment plant at Kahuta was a secret. After the French stopped helping Islamabad under pressure from the Carter administration, Pakistan was determined to keep the Kahuta plant a secret. Islamabad did not want Washington to prevent its commissioning.

RAW agents were shocked when Desai called Zia and told the Pakistani military dictator: 'General, I know what you are up to in Kahuta. RAW has got me all the details.' The prime minister's indiscretion threatened to expose RAW sources.

The unfortunate revelation came about the same time that General Moshe Dayan, hero of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, was secretly visiting Kathmandu for a meeting with Indian representatives. Islamabad believed Dayan's visit was connected with a joint operation by Indian and Israeli intelligence agencies to end Pakistan's nuclear programme.
http://www.rediff.com/news/2003/sep/08spec.htm

After this, Morarji Desai was felicitated with Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan's highest award, by the Paki government.

There were others PMs too. Maroof Raza in a TV debate says the PMs who compromised India's deep assets were in power in the 1990s. Most probably it was IK Gujaral.

While Morari himself only drank Morarjiola, his 'cabinet' associates were said to have given away a heck of a lot more, to be rewarded with a few bottles of whisky.

I am proud of how bribe standards have improved 100,000-fold since those days in India. Awesome 'growth'.
