Muslim groups back IOC official held for IS links

Islamic organisations in Rajasthan have come out in support of Mohammed Sirajuddin, who was recently arrested for alleged links with the Islamic State (IS).

On Sunday, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Forum for Democratic and Communal Amity (FDCA) and Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) expressed solidarity with Sirajuddin, marketing manager at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) here, who was arrested by the Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) on December 10 for alleged links with IS.

‘There’s no proof’
Mohammad Salim Engineer, National Secretary of JIH, said: “The police said Sirajuddin is an IS agent, but it is yet to be ascertained and investigations are under way. Tagging him as an ‘IS agent’ without proof could ruin his career.”

Mr. Engineer claimed that such instances had been witnessed in the past when Muslim youth were arrested by the police for supporting banned organisations but were later released because they had been falsely implicated.

Father allowed meeting
Sirajuddin’s father, Mohammad Sarwar, who met him on Saturday said, “I spoke to him for about half an hour. He [Sirajuddin] has committed no crime against the country.”

After the arrest on December 10, Mr. Sarwar had travelled to Jaipur from Gulbarga, Karnataka, to meet his son but was not given permission. During his second visit, however, he was allowed to meet Sirajuddin, who is currently under police remand.

“My younger son and I came to Jaipur to meet him [Sirajuddin]. Sirajuddin told me that he had done nothing wrong. My son is an honest man, he cannot commit such a crime,” Mr. Sarwar, who is a retired agriculture department official, said.

Sirajuddin's lawyer Paker Farooq said, “ He has been falsely implicated. The FIR states that he exchanged his views over Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, and he was in possession of copies of ‘Dabiq’ — the propaganda magazine of IS. This doesn't prove that he has committed any crime.”

Mr. Farooq said that on Monday he would move an application in the court here for Sirajuddin’s release. The family would later approach the Rajasthan High Court asking that the case against him be quashed.

Mr. Engineer said IS was an anti-Muslim organisation and that its acts must be condemned, but the police cannot arrest an alleged IS sympathiser and call him a criminal. They should take up deradicalisation, he said.

The horse has well and truely bolted w.r.t to these folks. I believe there is no way to bring this large mass of 20% of our population back to nationalistic thought process

Giving up land is not the way civilizations survive and it would only strengthen the followers of Islam to come back and whack you harder by providing them with more land. The first partition itself was a disastrous mistake (a civil war was much more preferable) which has been biting Hindus in the ass ever since.

Hindus need to start producing more kids while also becoming an armed society (like the US or our own pre-Brit society) and start preparing for the inevitable war (which will also see the involvement of external players like PRC).

These people cannot be reformed and Hindus have to either grow a pair of balls or join their Roman and other cousins in the museum at the hands of Muslims & Christians.

Police suspect three Mumbai youths could have joined ISIS

MUMBAI: Three youths from Mumbai who have been missing for some time are suspected to have joined terror outfit Islamic State (IS), police said on Monday.
The three youths are identified as Ayaz Sultan (23), Mohsin Sheikh (26) and Wajid Sheikh (25), all residents of Malvani area in western suburb of Mumbai.
"We suspect that the three joined the IS and our probe is on to ascertain this," Malvani police station's senior inspector Milind Khetle said.
The parents of the three men have registered a missing complaint with the Malvani police, he said.
An official of the Anti-Terrorism Squad also said they suspect that the three youths have been radicalised into joining the Islamic State, and added that the ATS is probing the matter.
While Sultan went missing on October 30, the other two have been missing since December 16, the ATS official said.
According to Khetle, Sultan left home on October 30 after telling his parents that he had to go to Pune in connection with a job offer he got from a Kuwait-based firm.
Mohsin left home on December 16, saying he was going to attend a friend's wedding. Wajid also left home the same day saying he had to get the name on his Aadhar card corrected, the police officer said.
Police strongly suspect that the three men were in touch with each other as they resided in the same area and also because two of them left home on the same day, he said.
An ATS official said they tried to crack the password of the email accounts of the three missing youths, but have not been successful as yet.
Based on statements of family members of the three youths, it appears they were highly radicalised, police said.
Police is trying to ascertain whether the missing men were brain-washed into joining the IS by someone personally or through Internet.
Notably, in May last year, four youths from Kalyan township in neighbouring Thane district had gone to Syria to join the IS. One of them, Areeb Majeed, returned and is currently in NIA custody while the whereabouts of the other three were not yet known.
Besides, a Pune-based 16-year-old Muslim girl, who was reportedly radicalised by her IS contacts abroad and brain-washed to go to Syria, was questioned by ATS sleuths earlier this month and sent to a de-radicalisation programme.

As-usual ToI and IE passed it as freak accident not even mentioning the name of the driver and that he was arrested ( though bailable ). Investigation is on ,whether it is indeed a freak accident or a motivated one. The bus slamming the wing and propeller potion of the plane could have triggered explosion and could have also damaged other a/cs parked nearby.

It proves that ISRO spy scam was an external hit job, that was aimed at Bharath to stop achieving something and it seems external-internal forces have succeeded in sabotage. My blood is boiling.

Yes, it is surprising that he is still remaining out of the radar. From what I understand Shreekumar was actually in IB (with a cover job with a CPF at ISRO). The front-end crusaders of this drama was one Vijayan, an Inspector in K.P and Sibi Mathews IPS, who was a more superior officer. They were the people who picked up the scientists and actually ran the investigations (with Shreekumar remaining behind the curtains as he was with IB).

Babbar Khalsa terrorist nabbed in Portugal

A Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist, wanted for murder and bombing in Punjab, has been arrested in the southern Portugal town of Evora.

Paramjeet Singh, alias Pamma, against whom a red corner notice was issued, was arrested from a hotel where he was staying with his wife and four children aged between seven and 11, sources said.

India is likely to send an extradition request to Portugal soon as a court in Evora is awaiting a formal request from New Delhi.

Singh is a leader of the banned BKI and wanted for conspiracy in two 2010 bomb attacks in Punjab and the 2009 killing of Rulda Singh, leader of a Hindu group, officials said.— PTI

Minority groups unhappy with Maha’s de-radicalisation of youth plan

The Maharashtra government has run into opposition from Muslim scholars and social activists to its ‘de-radicalisation’ programme aimed at youth from the community. Much of the opposition is to the term “de-radicalisation”, which critics say amounts to labelling a community.
“De-radicalisation implies that Muslim youth are radicalised. This is something unacceptable as we do not think any particular community has been radicalised,” was the common refrain at a meeting the government held with Muslim scholars at Mantralaya, the state secretariat, recently. Among those present were MahmoodUr-Rahman, PA Inamdar, Abdul Shaban, and Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi.
Inamdar, a noted educationist, said, “We are not against the measures being taken to bring the community into mainstream, but our objection is to the way it is projected. I don’t think the youth from any particular community are radicalised. Extremism does exist among youth to a certain extent, irrespective of community and religion. Fringe instances of youth running away from home for various reasons cannot be termed radicalisation.”
Professor Abdul Shaban of the Tata Institute of the Social Sciences said any such move would further alienate the community. “This will further widen the gap between the communities. Tagging Muslims as ‘radicalised’ will also lead to hardship to them in getting employment. The steps are bound to prove counter-productive,” he said.
Inamdar suggested that the government should instead quietly implement its progressive schemes meant for the community rather than be seen as pushing a political agenda.
Ranjit Patil, minister of state for home, told HT, “We agree with the concerns raised with the nomenclature of the policy. We may change it.”
Additional chief secretary, home, KP Bakshi, has already chaired five meetings on the programme and a government resolution is expected to be issued soon

Three Malwani-based youth are missing since October 30 and their families believe they left home to join the ISIS. Ayaz Sultan (23) left home on October 30, saying he had to go to Pune in connection with a job offer he had from a Kuwait based company. Mohsin Sheikh (26) left home on December 15, saying he was going for a friend’s wedding, and Wajid Sheikh (25) also left home on December 15, saying he had to get his name in his Aadhar card corrected. -

Missing man was devout
Family members of Mohsin Sheikh told mid-day he was a devout Muslim and the sole breadwinner. Married with two children aged 6 and 3, he has two younger brothers and four elder sisters, of whom three are married. He provided for the entire family, they said.

His father Ibrahim said: “When we wanted to buy a TV, he stopped us, saying it was against Islam. Even today, we do not have a TV at home. If his children missed namaaz, he would cut one meal for them. He had instructed us to follow the same in his absence. He was a very caring and loving person. He had no social life beyond those friends.”

Ibrahim said he knew all the three other missing men from the group. “They were always together and even prayed together at the local mosque,” he said. “But I never knew what was going on between them. I pray to Allah our children don’t fall in bad company, and that they return home at the earliest.”

ATS sources said the two Malwani men who have been traced have revealed how Ayaz Sultan, the youngest in their group had threatened them into joining ISIS, after which they were handled by a Chennai agent

With the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) having found another of the missing Malwani men suspected to have been recruited by terror organisation Islamic State, two important details in the case have come to light.

Ayaz Sultan (23) threatened his friends saying they would be considered infidels if they did not join ISIS

The two men nabbed so far have pointed the investigators to their Chennai handler, and have also revealed how they were bullied and threatened into joining ISIS by the youngest in the group, Ayaz Sultan (23), who was the first to be radicalised and leave home on October 30.

A day after they caught one of the Malwani four (Wajid Sheikh, 25) from Wakad in Pune, on Wednesday evening, the ATS nabbed a second man — Noor Mohammad Shaikh (32) in Miraj, near Sangli.

In the wee hours of last morning, he was brought to Mumbai and allowed to meet his family, before being taken to the ATS office for questioning.

The 'kafir' threat
Wajid and Noor told the ATS officials that they had been brainwashed by Ayaz, who would intimidate them with the threat of being called kafir (infidel).

“Ayaz would threaten his Malwani friends, saying that if they backed out and didn’t join ISIS, not only would they be declared kafir (infidel), ISIS would destroy their families, since they would become kafir by extension,” said an ATS source.

Chief recruiter
As mid-day had reported, Ayaz was the first of the Malwani four to leave home on October 30, telling his family he had to go to Pune for a job. Officials said Ayaz’s father is a Pakistani national, while his mother is Indian.

Ayaz himself was born in Pakistan, and that was where he went upon leaving home. But he continued to radicalise men in Malwani, and cops suspect he brainwashed at least 10 men.

“Even after Ayaz left the country, he was in constant touch with all the men. He had been radicalised completely through the ISIS chat rooms and online agents. He had been brainwashed so thoroughly that he began to recruit people as well. He played a key role in brainwashing his friends,” added the source.

Chennai agent
Ayaz also kept in touch with the Indian agent who was guiding and helping the men get out of the country. ATS is now looking for this person.

“After the three men (Wajid, Noor and the still missing Mohsin) left home on December 15, they first went to Pune, where the agent provided them with new mobile phones and SIM cards. The trio had been strictly instructed by the agent to leave their mobile phones at home,” said an official, adding that they then travelled through Hyderabad and Belgaum before reaching Chennai, where the agent was in the process of making bogus passports and Aadhar cards for them.

After the news broke of the men going missing because of suspected ISIS recruitment, the agent got nervous and the plot began to unravel (see ‘Tracking the story’).

Tracking the rest
Wajid and Noor were tracked down with the help of their mobile phones. Readers might recall that a homesick Noor had called his family a day after he left home, after which the call was abruptly cut by others. The cops are now also looking for the others using the same method. “The second group of friends from Malwani, who were to leave in the next batch, were in constant touch with the trio on their new mobile numbers. With the help of these new numbers, we are tracking them,” said an ATS officer.

Family reunion
Noor was allowed to meet his family around 5 am yesterday and his wife was rejoiced to see him again. In an earlier interview with mid-day, she had recounted how he had called her to say he missed her and the children. “I am very happy and relieved that my husband is back. The whole family depends on him. He came home at 5 in the morning, and later, he was picked up by the ATS,” said Noor’s wife, Rahimunnisa.

Tracking the story
When mid-day broke the story on December 21 of the Malwani four being allegedly recruited by ISIS, the Chennai agent himself backed out and told the men to separate and go into hiding. Their faces had been splashed on news channels and in newspapers, compromising their chances of getting out the country unobstructed. Since then, this paper has carried sustained coverage of the case, including the revelation that more men who went missing from the area might also have been recruited by ISIS.

A few days ago Rafeeque Taliparamba, a photographer from Kerala, had questioned the Islamic tradition of 'Purdah' on a WhatsApp group of friends and acquaintances. On Sunday morning, news emerged that Rafeeque's studio in Taliparambu had been reduced to ashes, with equipment worth lakhs lost in the fire.

Rafeeque suspects that some people who had threatened him for his message on the WhatsApp group openly could have been behind the attack.

"It was not a public forum, but a group of people who knew each other. This was my personal opinion that I shared and I have faced a lot of vitriolic attacks because of it. Now my livelihood has been affected," Rafeeque told the media.

It was on a WhatsApp group called 'What is Islam' that Rafeeque had shared his thoughts. This had reportedly created a huge furore with people in the group supporting and condemning him. Later, some people made open threats and exhorted others to boycott Rafeeque.

A police complaint has been registered by Rafeeque and the police will investigate certain people who posted on the same group on Saturday that Rafeeque's studio had been reduced to ashes.

Meanwhile, many including Rafeeque's friends came out in social media supporting him.

High time that this terror outfit was clearly identified and banned so that anyone joining or supporting it would be liable for stringent prosecution.

Small village called Vellalore near Coimbatore. Name of the temple is Pechiamman (Devi) temple. It's an ancient temple in a small village. Doesn't have a dedicated priest. So a priest comes early in the morning, opens the temple, does the daily cleaning and pooja and leaves the temple open. Devotees mostly come in the afternoon and evening and the temple remains open. This Mohammedan was walking past, saw the temple open and entered and smashed the Murtis. There was a Sivalingam too and that was also desecrated. Local folks caught him, thoroughly trashed him before handing him to the police. Upon enquiry he told police it was his religious duty and this act will reserve him a seat in Mohammedan heaven.

A man was taken into custody here today for allegedly desecrating some idols in a temple at Vellalore area in the city and a search was on for his accomplice, police said.

The duo, both from north India, 'trespassed' into the Pechiyamman temple in the area and desecrated two idols in the Kubareshwarar temple, they said.

Locals caught one of them as they were fleeing from the spot and handed him over to police, they said.

The man is being questioned, police said.

Punjab Police say they are treating the alleged car-snatching of a Superintendent of Police and his two companions on the Jammu-Pathankot highway in the early hours of Friday as a possible terror attack.
A statewide alert has been issued by Punjab Police, and the Army’s units in Pathankot as well as the police in Jammu are also monitoring the situation.
SP Salwinder Singh, his friend Rajesh Verma, a jeweller, and Verma’s cook Madan Gopal were in the police officer’s SUV when they were allegedly waylaid by a group of five armed men in Army fatigues on the Pathankot-Jammu highway. In statements to the police, Singh and Verma said the men were carrying “heavy weapons”.
The men allegedly got into the SUV, assaulted and robbed the three men, forced them out of the vehicle 20 km away, and later abandoned the car in a village in Himachal Pradesh.
About three km from the spot where Salwinder alleged he and his accomplices were waylaid, the police also recovered the body of a man identified as a taxi driver, Ikagar Singh. A Toyota Innova belonging to Ikagar Singh was also found abandoned at a distance with one of its tyres punctured. The sarpanch of Ikagar’s village, however, said his car was found at the exact spot where the three men were allegedly waylaid.
Police have registered two separate FIRs — on charges of murder in the case of Ikagar’s death, and on abduction and robbery charges in Salwinder’s case.
Inspector General, Border Range, Lok Nath Angra said, “We have been looking at it as a terror activity. We also suspect that both incidents could be correlated. ADGP (Law and Order) H S Dhillon has reached Pathankot and will hold a meeting with the BSF and Army authorities. We have beefed up security in the area.”
DIG Border Range Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh said a combing operation had been launched in the area.
Sources said the Intelligence Bureau’s teams have questioned Salwinder and the two other men about the incident.
A top police official who did not wish to be named said the incident could “possibly” be a terror attack. “I do not eliminate this possibility,” said the official.
The official said Border Range police had issued an alert about suspected infiltration of armed men from across the Pakistan border into Indian territory earlier this week.
However, a top BSF official said there was no evidence of any crossover bid from across the border.
Quoting from Salwinder’s complaint, DSP Pathankot (Rural) Kuldeep Singh said, “Salwinder told us he was coming back from Talur village in his personal SUV after paying obeisance at a religious place… They reached a fuel station in Kolian village, Pathankot, around 1 am. Five persons signalled them to stop. Verma, who was driving, stopped the vehicle. The men were dressed in Army fatigues and were heavily armed. Salwinder said there is a blue beacon on his vehicle, which was switched off when they were asked to stop.”
“All five men got into the vehicle and started assaulting the three occupants. After travelling around 20 km, they stopped the vehicle and tied Salwinder and Gopal to the trees. They took Verma with them and threw him out of the car about four km away. He sustained minor injuries,” said Kuldeep.
“Meanwhile, Salwinder and the cook managed to free themselves and reached a nearby house, from where they called police at 2:45 am. The SUV was found abandoned in a village that falls in Himachal Pradesh, near Pathankot,” Kuldeep added.
Kuldeep said the alleged assailants also snatched mobile phones from Salwinder and Verma.
On Ikagar’s murder, Kuldeep said, “He was a native of Bhagwal village in Pathankot. He got a call Thursday night from a person who said he wanted to take a patient to a hospital. This morning, his body was recovered from a spot near Dhusi dam. His Toyota Innova was found near in Kolian village, about 1.5 km from his body.”
Salwinder was posted as SP (Headquarters) Gurdaspur until December 31, when he was transferred to 75th battalion, Jalandhar.

Jaish-e-Mohammed militants suspected to be planning attacks in Delhi: Police -PTI, Economic Times

Two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were suspected to have sneaked into the national capital and were planning high profile attacks, including taking hostages, following which security was today stepped up in the city, a day after the Pathankot air base strike by the same Pakistan- based outfit.

Delhi Police received specific intelligence input about the presence of militants. Police Commissioner BS Bassi today held a meeting with its top brass and the department sought help of central paramilitary forces in providing security, especially around vital installations in the city, said a senior police official.

"We have inputs regarding two Jaish-e-Mohammed key members who have sneaked into Delhi and are suspected to be planning high profile attacks or hostage crisis.

"We have also got a few additional companies of paramilitary forces to increase security following the alert," said the official.
The national capital was already put on high alert yesterday in the wake of the Pathankot attack.

Security was significantly heightened at the airport, railway stations, bus stands and other vital installations in the city.

Vigil was also heightened in several areas, including popular market places, in South Delhi, Central Delhi and the VIP movement zone in Lutyens' Delhi, a senior police official said.

Sleuths of Crime Branch and special cell of Delhi Police were also roped in and the security unit has been asked to form a strategy in connection with potential threats to VIPs in the national capital, the official said.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi was halted for searches at Ghaziabad and movement of several other trains disrupted after Northern Railways was alerted about a possible bomb threat to trains plying between Delhi and Kanpur.

"We received a call from the railway control room in the morning in which they said that they had received information about a potential bomb threat on a train plying between Delhi and Kanpur," a senior police official said.

A search operation was launched across all railway stations in the city covering all trains on the said route, the official added.

Communal tension erupted in Malda

KOLKATA: Communal violence erupted in Malda this afternoon following a meeting of a fringe Muslim organisation in the area. The local police station at Kaliachawk was set on fire, at least 40 vehicles that included a dozen private vehicles, police vehicles and BSF vehicles, were ransacked after the mob turned violent during the meeting. The National Highway 34 was blocked for several hours while trains were also stopped near Kaliachawk, said police sources.

A Muslim organisation was holholding a rally protesting against the comments made by the Hindu Mahasabha chief in Uttar Pradesh. When the meeting was underway, there was a public outrage and the mob attacked the police station. Subhabrata Ghosh, the inspector-in-charge of Kaliachawk police station and other police officers were injured when the mob attacked the police station . The police officers were soon outnumbered and they fled, said sources.

According to sources, a 24 year old villager was shot . The victim has been admitted to the Malda medical college hospital. Around 25 houses in the area were also ransacked. The situation was brought under control late in the evening after a huge reinforcement from Malda reached the spot .

Anuj Sharma, IG, law and order told ET, " The situation in Kaliachawk is now under control. We are collecting the reports of damages."
