yes, it can but he cannot travel out of wherever he is right now without valid travel documents. just like uncle mallaya who is now getting kicked for his earlier good times.

I hope that the GoI has filed some solid FIRs against this diseased zakir creature.

Where is he now, KSA or Malaysia ? I don't think either of them will deny deportation, unless their governments have had any hand in his business.

Islamic preacher Zakir Naik's passport revoked
NEW DELHI: Controversial Islamic preacher and televangelist Zakir Naik's passport has been revoked after his consistent failure to present himself before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection to alleged terror-funding cases.
The Regional Passport Office in Mumbai has revoked Naik's passport, after he failed to respond to a showcause notice issued to him for personal appearance by July 13. The notice was served asking Naik why his passport should not be revoked in view of various investigations pending against him.
A special NIA court in Mumbai, while issuing a non- bailable warrant against Naik , had said that "there are reasonable grounds to believe that Naik is evading arrest and that he will not voluntarily appear before the court or before the agency."
The Interpol was approached against Naik after a year-long probe during which the NIA gathered evidence of his IRF and Peace TV being used to allegedly promote hatred between different religious groups.
The central government has already banned his NGO and taken his TV channel off air. As a last resort, he can "easily" get political asylum in Pakistan, but probably, prefers Saudia, South Africa or Malaysia . These countries may oblige him but at the cost of their relationship with India !

Good recap of situation in Darjeeling ;

Trouble in the Hills:Darjeeling Unrest ;

http://www.india-aware.com/trouble-hill ... ng-unrest/
The CRPF and The Seema Suraksha Bal has been deployed in the violent hit areas and the tourist activities have come to a standstill, as internet services and communication leaves the locals and the tourists completely stranded and clueless. According to West Bengal government officials, the GJM has hired Maoist forces as mercenaries to accelerate their efforts in a formation of a separate Gorkhaland state. But The GJM leadership has overruled the allegations quoting it “completely baseless”.

The government official reported that “the GJM has a huge stockpile of ammunition and they are gradually gearing up for an armed revolution in the hills”.

The GJM supporters held a demonstration outside the district magistrate’s office, to demand the restoration of the internet services in the region.

GJM MLA Amar Singh Rai was quoted as saying, “We want to know where is the MP? He has not come to the hills since the unrest began. Will he only come to the hills at the time of the election? If he tries to do that the BJP will get a befitting reply from the people of the hills”.

To arrest the rabble-rousing situation of the hills the Mamta Banerjee government sealed the Siliguri based office of a Nepali language television channel. The police alleged that the ABN news network fuelled communal feelings among people and even streamed people sporting khukris and weapons during the demonstration on the streets. Inspite of the government’s move to impose curfew in the region, the situation in Darjeeling remained the same. BJP MP SS Ahluwalia, intimated the Union government about the situation, criticizing the move as a breach in freedom of speech.

Zakir Naik declared proclaimed offender, NIA to attach his assets to investigation
Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has been declared a proclaimed offender and the process to attach his assets has been initiated, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Friday. It said the order declaring Naik a proclaimed offender was issued recently by a special court in Mumbai, after which the process of attachment of his assets “under section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been initiated”. Naik is being investigated for terror and money-laundering charges. He fled from India on July 1, 2016 after terrorists in neighbouring Bangladesh claimed that they were inspired by his speeches on waging a ‘jihad’ (holy war).
According to the ‘Middle East Monitor’, an online news portal, Naik has already been granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia. However, there has not been any independent verification of this claim yet. Of course, Saudi Arabia is not going to make a public announcement on this . Zakir is one of their most efficient "Agent Of Influence" and they need him to spread the "message of Malsi" in this globalized environment
The NIA, on November 18, 2016, had registered a criminal case against the controversial preacher at its Mumbai branch under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
His organisation, the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), was declared an “unlawful association” by the government a day before the NIA registered the case. Naik is accused of spreading hatred by his provocative speeches, funding terrorists and laundering crores of rupees over the years.

India seizes vessel carrying 1,500 kgs of heroin off Gujarat coast
Reuters
India has seized a vessel carrying about 1,500 kilograms of heroin worth 35 billion rupees ($545.94 million) off the western state of Gujarat, a navy spokesperson said. Indian navy spokesman D.K.Sharma said in a statement this was their largest single haul of narcotics substances to date. The vessel, which was intercepted off the coast of Gujarat, was brought to the coastal city of Porbandar on Sunday, the statement said. Investigators will of course, "probe" the possible hand of Pakistan in this

Darjeeling turmoil Gains Momentum ;

http://www.india-aware.com/darjeeling-t ... -momentum/
The 30 member Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee is an apex body representing all the parties in Darjeeling was there in Delhi for a meeting to resolve the political crisis in the hills.

The Gorkhaland issue has stirred up many concerns with both pros and cons of the matter. While the Gorkhas feel that they feel abandoned and disgruntled over cultural discrepancies without access to complete autonomy in the region. The counter argument lies in the fact that the region also inhabits the Lepchas and the Bhutias who are not willing to resign to the leadership of Gorkhas.

So it is Mamata Banerjee’s gimmicks to pacify the minorities in the region and tighten the screws of her leadership skills. Because ultimately it’s the Bengali votes that matter in the state.
Darjeeling Tea Estate Facing Serious Threat

http://www.india-aware.com/darjeeling-t ... us-threat/
“All the available stocks of Darjeeling tea are expected to dry up after sale number 31 and 32 scheduled in the middle of August”, said Krishan Katiyal CMD of J Thomas and company, the world’s largest and oldest tea auctioneer. Usually around 35 % of tea is sold and bought during auctions and the prices this year rose to a whopping Rs 691 per kg against Rs 500 per kg last year.

The ongoing agitation will certainly trigger the prices of brand Darjeeling tea to shoot up as the retailers will try to make the most out the current stocks available. Usually there are more stocks in pipeline available during auctions (dust or CTC)which last until the new tea season resumes in February. But the indefinite strike called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha took its toll on the tea industry and led to the spoiling of tea leaves in the garden which affected the domestic markets. The Chairman J Thomas Mr. Katiyal saw this situation as unfortunate, because the queen of teas never lost its essence even during the previous Gorkha agitations of 1980s.

Darjeeling Tea Association Chairman Binod Mohan confirmed that the otherwise profitable tea industry has suffered a loss of over Rs 150 crore due to the agitation. Tea plucking in some of the 87 gardens of Darjeeling remains suspended since June 9th as most of the tea labors went on total rampage and hit the streets in protest for further administrative power of the hilly region.

14 properties of Geelani, kin worth Rs 150 crore under NIA lens
SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing seven top Hurriyat separatists+ over accusations of terror financing in Jammu & Kashmir, has shortlisted as many as 14 properties allegedly owned by the head of the hardline faction Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his family members. The shortlisted properties are estimated to be between Rs 100 crore and Rs 150 crore, officials have said.
TOI has accessed the list of properties under NIA's scanner for hawala and benami transactions. This includes educational institutions, residences and agricultural lands in Kashmir and flats in Delhi allegedly owned by Geelani, his two sons, Naseem and Nayeem, and daughters Anisha, Farhat, Zamshida, and Chamshida. Anisha and Farhat are Geelani's daughters from his second marriage. In keeping with Malsi "tradition" does he have more than one ?
Geelani's family refuted the NIA charges. "I've nothing to hide. Our family has always been subjected to torture and harassment and it continues," said Naseem in a statement, claiming that his bank balance at the time of receiving NIA notice was less than Rs 500, while he has a loan liability of Rs 23 lakh. Not far from the school, Geelani also allegedly owns a two-storey house in the same village. According to NIA probe, the house has around 10 rooms. Estimated to be worth Rs 4 crore, its occupants are eldest daughter Zamshida and her husband. The probe found Geelani has a half-acre land in Sopore, believed to be 30-year-old, and is being transferred to the separatist's daughters Anisha and Farhat. Geelani and his family cannot be "having it both ways" . Enjoying the "perks of democracy" and stabbing India in the back !

CRPF's real-life commandos now in comic books (TOI)
The commandos of the CRPF have a new feather in their caps - they are the latest stars of the comic world! Ready to match up to the likes of GI Joe and Commando comics, the paramilitary force has turned many of its big battles into a comic book series - Shaurya Gathaein.

With the release of Dheer Dharmendra and Bahadur Biresh on its 78th Raising Day last week, the CRPF now boasts of 10 comic books based on real-life battle stories and its jawans.

Telling stories of unknown jawans

The series began in September 2015 and CRPF officials tells us the idea was to familiarize the younger generation with these stories and inspire them. Sardar Post - Ek Shaurya Gatha is based on the 1965 attack on Sardar Post and tells the story of how only 150 CRPF men fought back against 3,500 Pakistani soldiers.

Other stories that were turned into comic books include the Hot Springs battle in North Eastern Ladakh in 1959 against China in which 10 CRPF men lost their lives and the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi attack of 2005 (Ayodhya Ke Shoorveer).
There are also stories of individual jawans, like Dheer Dharmendra, based on Dharmendra Roy, a constable of CRPF's CoBRA Unit. Officials tell us that only those jawans who are recipients of the President Gallantry Award are chosen for the individual stories.

2005 Hyderabad bombing: Court acquits all 10 arrested - ToI
Very unfortunate. Either the evidentiary laws are too strict in terrorism matters or the police investigation & evidence gathering was lax or both.
Ten terror suspects with alleged links to Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) were acquitted by a local court on Thursday, nearly 12 years after a suicide bomber blew himself up on October 12, 2005 in front of the police task force office in Hyderabad. While nine of the accused have spent nearly 12 years in jail, the tenth has been out on bail.

Apart from the suicide bomber, a home guard posted outside the office died in the explosion.

The judgment said the prosecution failed to prove conspiracy charges. Also, the material seized from the accused did not amount to clinching evidence in the case, the judge added. The verdict came as a huge blow to Hyderabad police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) and drew sharp reactions from various quarters, including political parties, which accused police of framing innocents.

Seven of the nine accused lodged in the Chanchalguda jail were released late Thursday. Two of those acquitted are also accused in 2005 Jaunpur Shramajeevi Express blast case. They will be transferred to Jaunpur prison in Uttar Pradesh.

On October 12, 2005, Dalin alias Mohtasim Billal, a HuJI member and native of Bangladesh, walked into the police office with a backpack stuffed with explosives, including ammonium nitrate, and blew himself up.

Several years in jail sans parole, underworld don becomes father

MUMBAI: An underworld don who was deported to India a few years ago and is currently an undertrial prisoner in a Mumbai jail became father without being freed for a single day, said sources.
.
.
As claimed by sources, both spent their private moments in a train and the woman conceived
. The train that they used to board usually crawls between Mumbai CSMT and Masjid Bandar stations and taking opportunity, security staff covered a portion of the train with clothes and allowed the duo to spend their time privately for sometime.

X Posted from the Islamism thread.

Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, who is from the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan, opines on the issue of India very rightly planning to deport Bangladeshi Mohammadden Rohingya’s who had first illegally migrated to Myanmar and thereafter illegally migrated to India, on the very valid national security grounds of safeguarding India from the threat of Mohammadden Terrorism.

Farhan Haq shows the usual “Pakiness” by making no mention that India is not bound by the principle of “non‑refoulement”, which he bandies about, as India is not a signatory of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention nor for that matter is it a signatory of the 1967 Protocol. Neither for that matter are the other parties who may have a direct interest in the matter namely Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Our Government should ignore the UN and UNHCR and promptly move to rounding up and deporting these Bangaldeshi origin Rohingya people who had illegally migrated to Myanmar and thereafter illegally migrated to India so as to nip in the bud the security threat of Mohammadden Terrorism this group represents.

14 AUGUST 2017

Daily Press Briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General

The following is a near-verbatim transcript of today’s noon briefing by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General. ………………….

Question: Can I ask about India?

Deputy Spokesman: Sure.

Question: I want to ask… India had announced that it intends to… to deport Rohingyas from Myanmar regardless of whether they're registered as UN refugees or not. It's a pretty high‑profile announcement, and I'm wondering, given António Guterres's interest in this issue, what's his statement on it?

Deputy Spokesman: Obviously, we have our concerns about the treatment of refugees. Once refugees are registered, they are not to be returned back to countries where they fear persecution. You're aware of our principles of non‑refoulement, and that's what applies in this case.

Question: And who will convey that to India given that they've said at the level of a minister that this is exactly what they intend to do?

Deputy Spokesman: Well, I believe the first point of contact will be through UNHCR [United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees]. Have a good afternoon, everyone.

Col Purohit granted bail but then in another case:
SC forces 2 Gujarat cops in Ishrat and Sohrabuddin cases to quit
In a repeat of the process that displaced Gujarat DGP P P Pandey four months ago, the Supreme Court on Thursday forced police officers N K Amin and Tarun Barot, who like Pandey were accused in fake encounter cases, to resign from post-retirement posts.

Amin was an accused in the Sohrabuddin encounter case. Given a clean chit by the trial court last year after being accused of disposing of the body of Sohrabuddin's wife, Kausarbi, in 2005, Amin retired as superintendent of police in August 2016 but was re-appointed SP of Mahisagar district by the Gujarat government for a period of one year. Barot, who was an accused in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, was re-appointed as deputy SP with Western Railways in Vadodara for a year after his retirement. Both the cases were probed as "fake encounters". On March 29, the Gujarat HC had dismissed a PIL filed by former IPS offi cer Rahul Sharma, who had challenged the one-year service extension to Amin and Barot -specialists in encounters -after their retirement.

While hearing Sharma's appeal against the HC order, a bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud was requested by Amin's counsel, Guru Krishnakumar, to permit his client to complete his tenure, which was to end on August 31.
I will only plead that let Pandey retire honourably on April 30 with the promise that the state government will not seek any further extension of his service."

But the bench of Justices Khehar and Chandrachud refused and said if the state did not accept Pandey's resignation, it would pass appropriate orders. This forced the state to immediately accept Pandey's resignation
. Pandey was granted bail in 2015 and was reinstated in service

Its this which caused the SC to act:

On March 29, the Gujarat HC had dismissed a PIL filed by former IPS officer Rahul Sharma, who had challenged the one-year service extension to Amin and Barot -specialists in encounters -after their retirement.

A clear case of holier than though.
Most likely this Rahul Sharma IPS was supping from Congress table.

As per the NIA web site Sharad Kumar IPS is now heading the agency. The agency, I don't think has been an abysmal failure. In the southern states, the main investigations on folks like ISIS wannabes were all handled by the NIA. And arrests were also made. The most recent one was the arrest of one ISIS Jehadi from Alapuzha Kerala, and two of his pals from Coimbatore. NIA also has some capable officers (who did withstand political pressure, in their own respective state) who went behind criminals & terrorists.

I can count 2 wrt Bangladesh and BD's in India in general.

1. Build a good reliable fence to stop future flow.
2. Not rock the boat for Sheik Hasina for whatever it is worth. We don't know what after her.

Real politics always mostly trumps Idealism. Anyone who says otherwise has not read sufficient history.

1. Nehru and his *Asian solidarity* has landed our in the mess we are at present wrt China.
2. Nehru's belief in the innate goodness of the world order i.e. UN and not the power of the gun is responsible for the situation in Kashmir.
3. Socialism is a great *idealistic* concept and capitalism look truly barbaric in comparison. Look what Socialism has done to India while China used capitalism to catapult itself into the big league.

I could go on and on.

Emphatic YES and YES.

After Hasina you might find Bakis and Chinese in full force in BD. This is not speculation if you read some of the past reports on the other claimant to Dhaka gaddi. We will do our utmost to have a friendly government in Dhaka. IIRC, Munna mohan went to the extent of defying the US wishes in her support. There was a sound reason we nearly picked up a fight with the US in her support.

We will especially refrain from doing anything to under cut the one we have right now for all her faults. Instead of 2.5 front war we will be staring at 3.5 front war.

NO Indian GOI will risk that but specially right now. At times like this you put your head down and plough ahead and especially try not to ignite another front.

Why else did the Modi GOI not ask for compensation for loss of territory in return during the enclave exchange? There must be some uninhabited areas on our border on the BD side from BOB to Tripura/Meghalaya. What do you think?

I nearly missed your last point on security. GOI of all hues from Blue to Saffron believe that BD is vital for our national security not just internal security but that too.

The above is scaremongering. You can't deport 20-25 million people overnight. First you need to identify. Hence, NRC update was implemented in Assam as soon as BJP came to power. The update is going to be completed by end 2017 or early 2018. Next, step is to remove their names from voters list which will happen before 2019 elections. By that time Hasina election will be over. Third step will be to deport. How that is going to be done is not clear at this stage. WB cannot be touched as long as BJP is not in power as the TMC/INC/Left don't want to deport illegal immigrants. This is the situation at present. The three front war is bakwaas as there are many pressure points on Bdesh.

That is the point. There are mutual pressure point and they remain pressure point till both sides don't do something dramatic as deporting 2-3 crore people. Not my figures.

But when the pressure points are used they become a source of conflict and allow external powers to start fishing. However all such things are speculation till things start moving one way or the other. If people think such a scenario is outlandish please wake me up when the deportation starts and is rolled out beyond some token 10-20 K people.

Added later: I would be happy to see the deportation but I have little hope barring some token gestures or not even that.

http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/ ... 46--1.html
Now, after many years of vacillation, the Kerala Police have admitted the state has been witnessing ‘Love Jihad’ for some time. The confidential report has brought focus on a self-styled fundamental group called ‘Dawa Squad’ is actively converting youngsters in Kerala into Islam. It further says the squad targets youth from the Ezhava community more than any others.
