In this atmosphere, you will have people is such a frame of mind that will take a huge provocation from someone for the crowd to react the way it did.

Besides the elites of the DDM did not actually cover themselves in glory, in this trip.
I wasn't clear enough--I mean that this particular population of NRIs has endured years of contempt and insults from Sardesai and, while not necessarily consciously looking for a confrontation, the accumulated rage is such that any provocation could have led to an explosion. It is lucky for Sardesai that (a) the people are inherently gentle and (b) they are in an environment where police would have quickly clamped down on any serious scuffle.

I want to know why the Indian Media did not go interview the good chitizens of USA protesting Modi and India?
See most of them had 1984 Sikh riot posters and were idiotically linking Modi to it.. only a few were there with 2002...
Most Indians would have smelt a rat and seen these protests for what they really where phunded by ISI(s)
This meant Indian media was not interested in showing these.... there is no market.

What was even more duplicitous is the no EJ who encouraged a visa ban was there protesting anti-conversion laws... and the Brown Devil himself!
See atleast the ISI(s) provoked unwashed took the time and energy to show up for a few minutes and waste their time making posters...
If the good shepherds had shown up, the media had a market, a tamasha... but it did not happen.

Turdesai therefore had no takers for his anti-Modi agenda... thus the fishing in troubled waters...
When he tried to provoke one, it backfired... and he failed to even throw a punch!

You have a point. This coupled with the provocation from RS, will have the obvious result. Still I would have been happy, if RS got the silent treatment. As nothing else could show the news trader just how irrelevant he truly is. By reacting to him, the crowd made him relevant.

This is a net loss to us, unless RS is prosecuted & convicted in the US for assault on the NRI.

RajCreep claimed that his tweet about "an influential person staying in the same hotel as Modi" was the reason he got attacked. He was relying on some Achint Sharma's post to make his case.

He should have the video to make his case if it was true. All he has to do is release it instead of tweeting some random guy's post.

India’s draft rules on patenting drugs draw mixed response
Mumbai: India’s latest draft rules on patenting drugs that say modifications of existing medicines can be patented only if they show increased therapeutic value has drawn sharp reaction from international pharma companies.

...
The guidelines do not provide guidance on scope and application of Section 3(d), as it merely reiterates existing Indian case law, according to the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (IFPMA), a global lobby of firms that relies on drugs research.
So that is the latest Indian position on pharma patents ..

PM Narendra Modi spells out India's preferences in future climate negotiations
Global communities might have missed India's point at the climate summit in New York on September 23, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi made up for the loss four days later by articulating the country's views on the necessary actions to be taken to face the challenges of climate change during his UN general assembly speech on 27th of September.

In a remark which may disappoint rich nations, specifically the US, Canada and the European Union (EU) countries, Modi insisted on the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" (CBDR) and made it clear that this should "form the basis of continued action" in future.

It's a clear signal that India will not dilute its well-stated position when the country representatives would assemble in Lima, Peru in December for climate change negotiations in the run up to the global deal in Paris next year.

Without shirking India's responsibility, Modi sought to remind the gathering of the core of the Kyoto Protocol and said, "The world had agreed on a beautiful balance of collective action - common but differentiated responsibilities. That should form the basis of continued action. This also means that the developed countries must fulfill their commitments for funding and technology transfer".

Government considering legal action against US think-tank for running smear campaign against Indian pharma industry - Dilasha Seth & Soma Das, Economic Times
The government is considering legal action, including launching a defamation suit against US think-tank American Enterprise Institute research scholar Roger Bate, for maligning the country and running a smear campaign against the Indian pharmaceutical industry through a recent study, government officials told ET.

"We are exploring all legal options, including a suit against this set of individuals who have started a malicious campaign against the country and its drug industry through sweeping generalisations," said a government official.

Legal consultation is being pursued through India Brand Equity Foundation, (IBEF, a trust set up by the ministry of commerce & industry) and preliminary opinion of our legal counsel has advised us to do it via Indian courts {Absolutely, it must be in Indian courts} , he added.

Just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit, Bate along with a group of researchers published a study alleging that India-made drugs sold in Africa are inferior and poorer in quality than those sold in India and other middle-income countries. He announced findings of the study at a Capitol Hill event early this month.

Another government official Sudhanshu Pandey, joint secretary at the ministry of commerce, told ET, "This is highly irresponsible behaviour, playing one continent against the other (India and Africa) on basis of a study which doesn't even follow basic protocols of scientific rigour and methodology." IBEF, in a statement on Friday, alleged that the study has not been peer-reviewed yet.

"If India's Mars Mission cost one-eleventh of US' Mars Mission, that doesn't make it sub-standard. Low cost is our advantage and cheap doesn't mean poor quality," Pandey added, referring to India's Mars orbiter, Mangalyaan.

Bate and his fellow authors — Amir Attaran, a professor of law at University of Ottawa, Aparna Mathur, a research scholar with AEI, and Ginger Zhe Jin, professor at University of Maryland — told ET that India shouldn't 'shoot the messenger' for telling them about some problems in one of their industries.

The paper by economist Bate and his colleagues claims to have tested 1,470 samples of India-made drugs collected from different cities across Africa, India and five other middle-income countries.

It alleges Indian drug makers produce poorer quality drugs for Africa than other mid-income countries such as China, Brazil, Turkey, Thailand and Russia.

The study, focused on antibiotics and tuberculosis drugs, accuses Indian pharma companies of cutting corners on supply meant for poorer countries with non-existent or under-developed regulatory framework.

Indian drug companies divide the global medicine market into segments that are served by different quality medicines, alleges the study. While the notion of "export grade" marketing is familiar in sectors such as agriculture, it appears to exist for medicines also, with Indian manufacturers, citing its institutional review board commitments.

Indian drugmakers have called the sampling and methodology of study dubious and its intent malicious. "There seems to be a deliberate campaign to malign the Indian pharma industry. The minimum requirement was to give the labelled manufacturers an opportunity to explain the test result," said PV Appaji, director general of Pharma Export Promotion Council, India.

Bate said to an ET query that one of the reasons why he didn't publish names of the drugmakers is to avoid being sued by companies in an "obviously litigious industry" and avoid "diplomatic pressure" that the companies could exert.

DG Shah, secretary general of Indian Pharma Alliance, a grouping of top domestic drugmakers, said the study discounts logistical nightmares and storage conditions in Africa, which is unfair to say the least. He also wondered why it took two years to write a report, samples for which were collected during 2009-12.

However, Bate told ET, "Not directly, but indirectly, it is pretty certain that storage is not the main cause of the problems. We had not a single failure of product from the US and EU. The implication is that storage is not a significant problem or those products would also have been affected."

A_GuptaJi, you are right, I absolutely don't pay too much attention to media in general, US media in particular. Thats why even in my ungenerous characterization, I gave them way too much credit by saying that they cannot manufacture facts. One of your links shows that Fox news actually referred to Mark Sanford a democrat :-). Unbelievable.

A journalist lying blatantly on what happened. It was Sardesai who used foul language and behaved like a thug by assaulting an on-looker. But then he had the gall and audacity to lie blatantly by reporting that the crowd heckled him.

I ask them to find a single article in Economist where it praises India or indian culture, find any essay where there is no overt or covert insult to Indians. Prize is European holiday with airfare. With India Independence India's stock and fame spread wider.
To counter India they have worked on relentlessly building up other nations to reduce Indian presence.
This article is another barometer when they cannot contain India then they will resort to name calling and ridicule.

50s- Nehru and Indian democracy became well known
60s - inspite of PRC attack on India and Pak(all muslim nation) attack on India , it retained its NAM position
70s- After Pak split - PRC was brought into the global system to counter India and eclipse India
80s- Pak was made into jihad factory and hate India people and India increased its GDP
90s- PRC became the global mfg factory and admitted into WTO to nullify Indian advantage. India became backend office for the world by end of 90s
00s - PRC increased its share in world trade by 2005 into the top exporter helped by industrialized world. India into nuclear deal but there is no progress.
10s - India continues to increase its military strength. PRC is search of a position in Asia which is still not obtainable.

India elects Modi and equation change.

Guys, sorry if this has been posted and discussed, but never heard of this magazine Caravan, much less whoever this Hartosh Singh, but here he is spewing venom on Modi's visit, deriding and mocking everything Modi has done to date, and above all, advises US that Modi will be an awkward ally (this article was linked to yahoo news and thats how I came across it). He reminds me of many Indian parliamentarians who signed a petition to Obama urging him to continue visa ban on Modi. Does India need any enemies?
