This is the nonsense the above article is peddling:

"The idea that people have some rights just because they are human, and entirely irrespective of merit, certainly isn’t derived from observation of the world. It arose out of Christianity, no matter how much."

How can human rights be created by a religion which considers rest of humanity as inferior and condemns it to hell for not worshiping its god?

These theological or metaphysical convictions are connected with more firmly held values: contemporary humanists, just like the Christians of previous generations, believe in reason, fairness, freedom and decency.

That we sure do have in common with Christians-the Bible and their history are overflowing with reason, fairness, freedom and decency

PMO scraps 32-year blacklist of 212 Sikh NRIs ahead of Punjab polls

Officials familiar with the government's decision on removing the blacklist said a committee headed by additional secretary of the home ministry had examined the blacklist, and 212 cases of a total of 324 were removed. The remaining cases are being examined and may be removed from the blacklist as well. These officials did not want to be identified. A home ministry spokesperson said he had no comments.Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to the UK and Canada had seen several representations from Sikh NRI groups asking for reconsideration of the India travel ban. Officials said the proposal to remove the ban was opposed by the Intelligence Bureau. But the PMO intervened, and a committee was set up after which IB was asked to reexamine each case. One official explained that many of the blacklisted names were arbitrary. Entire families had been blacklisted on grounds that did not bear up to close scrutiny. The blacklist was never publicly acknowledged. But following several visa denials over the years, Sikh NRI groups started voicing opposition to what they described as systematic discrimination.

Guru ji's approach has a good potential to be implemented on the beef question.
He suggests to make the antibeef message implicit to Indian education from school stage itself.

In the book 'Rise and Fall' of Ancient Rome, the author Edward Gibbon believed the conquest of Rome by Christianity was the third and final downfall of the west. Gibbon was an unabashed admirer of 'Mahomet'. He was unhappy that the the 'Doric' columns of the idea of the west i.e. masculine stern strong were irreversibly damaged by the acceptance of Christianity. The pagan ideals which symbolised the 'Doric' and 'Ionic' columns which enabled the gradual transfer of power from Sparta to Troy to Greece to Rome to Britain to USA were weakened by the acceptance of Christianity by Constantine. Gibbon would have preferred Islam. Ironically Gibbon might get exactly what he wanted- death of Christianity and acceptance of Islam within Europe.

A Game Theory Approach to Civilizational Conflict

Let us for the time being assume a static demography, i.e that both groups are growing in size at the same rate. In such a scenario, the only way to increase hegemonic influence is to increase demographic extent i.e create ways to defect from one group to another. How does one create a utility for defection however? Well one can instantiate a Democracy with Universal Adult Franchise. Policies are now guided by the “will of the people”. As the size of the defectors increase, the policies that appeal to both groups within the larger original group shift towards the defectors. In fact minorities wield an excess amount of power by virtue of being the most intolerant. This reasoning is what makes the CIA fund Christian Missionaries in Bharata – by creating a group of defectors who by virtue of being a minority will wield power in excess of their actual demography the USG now control the policies that are acceptable within Bharata’s Overton Window.
Another way is to spread ideological memes which weaken societal cohesion. It is a well established fact that the structure of the family causally inhibits crime. Bachelors are far more likely to commit crime than married men, because of the way women influence their men within the family setting. Lord Indra in the Mahabharata speaks –
The domestic model of life is very superior and sacred and is called the field of cultivation of success…I therefore tell you to bear the very heavy burden of the duties of domesticity …Asceticism is to be obtained by leading a life of domesticity, upon which depends everything. Free from pride, those [observant of duties of domesticity] attain heaven and live for unending time in the regions of Sakra.
For the very same reason the CIA funded feminism, the chief recipient of funding being the harridan Gloria Steinem a childless octogenarian. The end goal of Western democracy and feminism in Bharata is the complete destruction of the family resulting in the complete destruction of civilization.

MAD also looks to be prioritizing the straightening of the neighbourhood over khayali pulaos like NAM or even the threat posed by EJs as they are deemed to be of lower priority than Bangladesh, Nepal or even Myanmar.

Culture Wars against Hindus

Gautam Sen 08-10-2016

The foremost source of unrelenting and egregious slander against Hindus is India’s film industry, led by Bollywood. Pakistani marauders were halted at the border in 1948 and repudiated every time subsequently, but its surrogates managed to seize control of India’s film industry. The economics of film making, forbidding bona fide investment until recently, allowed the Muslim underworld and its associates to infiltrate the industry by funding it. They were able to dictate the agenda of the film industry, insinuating a thoroughly anti national ideology and institute a standing critique of all things Hindus as well as propagate blatant and slanderous lies. Producers and directors became their playthings and selected artistes found a privileged entry in exchange of reciprocal favours that included every type of venal personal degradation.

Villains of every description, from torturers, rapists, murderers and espousers of every retrograde social custom, somehow sport a tilak and worship some incomprehensibly weird Hindu deity. By contrast, the gentle Muslim neighbour or preacher or Christian priest epitomises generosity and brotherhood. Both unfailingly reach out to look after the confused Hindu facing some personal crisis and resolving some tricky problem engendered by their own absurd religious prejudices. The abandoned Hindu mother, brutally trampled underfoot by her devout Hindu mother-in-law, always finds a teaching job in a Christian school, under the mellow guidance of a mother superior. In Kollywood, Bengali society is often depicted terrorising an educated and independent Hindu girl, in love with a Muslim boy from a humble background, also in keeping with the illusory egalitarian ethos peddled by Bengal’s neutered cultural elite. There are exceptions of course, but they truly underline the contrary rule of demonization.

And ever-present are the caste ridden evil Brahmin, much the way Jews were portrayed by god fearing Christian Europe, before the Nazis resolved the problem in inimitable fashion through mass murder. In addition to the horrors of caste in Indian society, the timeless lament at the Hindu society’s mistreatment of women and a penchant for infanticide, standard fare of colonial conquerors, before they too addressed the problem through genocide and looting. Class oppression has been another favoured theme, tearfully underlined by privileged cine artistes, themselves living in stupendous luxury, the richest among them today worth in excess of US$ 750 million. Yet rarely, if ever, a whisper about the fate of women in India or indeed elsewhere under the medieval jackboot of the Shariah or the truculent determination of the faithful to extract the last pound of flesh, loudspeakers blaring the call to prayer before dawn and major thoroughfares routinely blocked during Friday prayer.

This unforgiving depiction of Hindus, their culture and history has been thoroughly imbibed by the Hindu society itself. The default of the Hindu psyche has been apology for who they are and instinctive defence of their critics as the wronged party in Indian society. The popular ideology of Bollywood has its faithful counterpart in books used in Indian schools and university curricula. They are apparently consciously designed to create self-doubt, if not subliminal self-loathing of their past, their cultural and spiritual identity. Indeed, these pedestrian texts reflexively question the very basis of Indian nationhood. Much of the work of post independent history is studiously silent on critical issues of India’s painful past, actively denunciatory of alternative perspectives and slanderous of their authors, however renowned and scholarly. Their own material is usually slyly dishonest and rarely impartial and all designed to supposedly promote communal harmony by telling blatant untruths. These morally bankrupt historians ignore the bitter travails of the entire millennia of unspeakable horrors, mass murder and slavery and point instead to the alleged evils of conquered Hindu society.

The bedrock of self-hatred, dispensed by India’s secular elites, found a powerful echo abroad that compounded the severity of the impact on Indian society. The Anglo-American and European contempt for India arose from deep-seated historical impulses and India’s reluctance to join the aggressive Western Cold War campaign against communism. The British had also held India’s Hindu elites responsible for the patriotic fervour that eventually led to their ejection from India. Its roots can be traced back to the late nineteenth century and British sponsorship of the Muslim League that culminated in the conspiratorial relationship with Mohammed Ali Jinnah almost fifty years later, to deliver the coup de grace of partition. Virtually all British social science and academic scholarship on India and, as its obverse, Pakistan, was intentionally complicit in the project to demonise India. Its potent influence can be found in their abiding hostility towards India and Hindus to this day, led by British universities, their media and its particular ubiquitous incarnation, spreading half-truths and vicious canards.

India’s refusal to join the US-led Cold War alliance played a crucial role in the West’s hostility towards India, though now waning in dramatic ways, as illustrated vividly in the recent days.
In addition, Indians, unlike the Chinese, were viewed as enslaved people and unworthy of assimilation to the status of white or the honorary category accorded to some by South African apartheid. This undoubted racism informed the perceptions of the US policy makers and the British dominance of hostile scholarship on India also became the template that spread across the Atlantic. Virtually no practising Hindu is allowed to hold a major appointment in any US or British university in Hindu studies, with such positions invariably occupied by its most unsparing detractors, whether at Harvard, Chicago, Columbia or Oxbridge or London. The contrast with sympathetic and accommodating attitudes towards scholarship on Islam or China could not be more unambiguous. Thus, the absurdly traitorous Indian Leftist hostility toward their homeland and their own culture found a sympathetic intellectual terrain abroad. Both combined to institute an unholy and improbable alliance of supposed Indian anti-imperialists and its most brutal historic purveyors globally against India.

Why Ghanaians can't get enough of Jane the Virgin and Indian soap operas
Veera and Kumkum Bhagya, dubbed in Twi dialect, are some of the most-watch TV shows in Ghana, where the popularity of telenovelas dates back to the 90s

Billie Adwoa McTernan in Accra
Tuesday 18 October 2016
Save for later
It’s afternoon at a hair salon in Osu – a busy commercial area in Accra – where a group of workers have been shuttling between customers since the morning.

As the day winds to end the stylists in the salon move with a little less urgency, stealing occasional glances at the television screen above one of the large mirrors. Veera, a popular Indian soap opera, is on, grabbing their attention with its dramatic segues, cliffhangers, tension-heightening sound accompaniments and swift closeups capturing the shocked, ecstatic and exaggerated expressions of the actors.

Veera is the second Indian imported soap opera that has been dubbed into Twi (a local dialect of the Akan language in Ghana) by the television channel Adom TV. With families coming home after work and school to catch up on the latest episodes Adom’s two shows, Kumkum Bhagya and Veera are two of the most popular on the channel and have become part of people’s regular television watching routine, says Beatrice Ehomah, a producer at Adom. So much so that their success has surpassed what management had expected with people watching and following them with more rigor than the local films on the channel.

“There is a lot of learning and encouragement about children and their intelligence,” one of the stylists, Grace, says of a storyline in Veera. “I like it because of that.”

Grace adds that she and her colleagues are often still working when the evening shows begin, but any moments they catch are worth it. Hannah, a trader who has a kiosk on the busy Oxford Street in Osu, also likes that there are lessons to be learned from the shows.

Latin American telenovelas first aired on Ghanaian channels in the 90s with storylines of love, betrayal and family melodramas. Over the years Ghanaians, who were typically used to their own local Kumawood and neighbouring Nigeria’s Nollywood films, took to the telenovelas from Latin America and Asia, perhaps as a result of the dramatized depictions of daily life that both offer with the added appeal of a foreign lifestyle.

Soap operas such as Juana la Virgen – the American version, Jane the Virgin, which returns on CW this week in the US – are also popular on cable television. Esmerelda and Rosalinda proved to be instant hits and even served as an avenue for non-fluent English speakers to brush up on their English-language skills.

Jane the Virgin: soapy, smart and sexy
This show about a hotel worker accidentally impregnated by her boss’s sperm is a witty and uproarious meta-commentary on telenovas, and the antidote to gritty drama, writes Brian Moylan

Even with an increasing number of television channels popping up in the country – many of which air English-dubbed telenovelas – it wasn’t until last year that one channel, Adom TV, a Twi-speaking television station, decided it was time to set themselves apart from the competition. In November the Indian soap opera Kumkum Bhagya became the first to be dubbed into Twi. Others are now following suit.

“Originally the target audience was market women,” says Ehomah. “But now we find kids singing the songs, mimicking and picking up [lines] from the novela.”

While the channel is not the only one to locally produce a local language-dubbed telenovela – Obonu TV airs a Ga-dubbed Indian show – it is the first Twi channel to do so. With the dialect spoken across the diverse country, Adom has been able to reach a wider audience.

Grace says that though she watches both the English- and Twi-dubbed shows, she prefers those that are in Twi and finds – as the local producers hoped – that more people are encouraged to watch them.

However Amelia, an accountant and regular telenovela watcher, isn’t one of those people. Instead she feels like the voiceovers and the actors are at odds with each other.

“It doesn’t interest some of us anymore,” she complains. “It becomes annoying when you’re watching it. Whoever is speaking for them ... it doesn’t really match with the scene that is going on. So it takes the fun out of it.”

She prefers instead to watch Ghanaian films in local languages. But Ehomah says she and her team are pleased with the success of the Twi telenovelas.

“Twi has this humour in it,” Ehomah explains. “When we translate it we mix it up with the funny words in Twi and it makes it more humorous. So you have the Indians ‘speaking’ Twi with all those proverbs, it’s funny,” she says. “It helps relieve stress.”

Swamy’s succinct speech on India, Pakistan and the way forward

Nature/ Background

The Parliament in United Kingdom enacted the Indian Independence Act, 1947. This was enacted on 18th July 1947, with both India and Pakistan to be formed on August 15, 1947. But before this, on April 11, 1947, the British objective was to create a Muslim governed state, viz. Pakistan and a Hindu governed state, the continuing state of India. The two countries were to come to existence by June 1948. B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of India’s Constitution proposed a population exchange in an orderly fashion. But Mountbatten, fresh from South East War theater, advanced it to August 15, 1947. Thus there was no time to even consider a transfer of population. Why?On Dec 26, 1946, Nehru informed Clement Attlee that Soviet Union had Subhas Chandra Bose in their custody. At around the same time, The Congress Party was to elect their President who would have become the presumptive Prime Minister. Gandhi conducted a poll of the PCC Presidents and found that they favored Patel as the Prime Minister by a majority of 15-1. But Gandhi prevailed over Patel because Nehru told him that he could not work under anyone. The British were conducting trials of Bose’s Indian National Army (INA) soldiers. Armed forces were in rebellion in various places in India and the British decided to leave India by June 1948.Mountbatten feared that if Bose were to return to India, the British would lose all influence over India. Hence he advanced the date to August 15, 1947.Relations between India and Pakistan is convoluted and hence the cause of much strife is because our national identities have become fudged.A Hindu India has lived in peace with Parsis, Jews, Jains and Buddhists for thousands of years. While Nehru declared India a secular country, the Constitution in force since 1950, did not say so. Mrs. Indira Gandhi added the word secular in the Constitution during the Emergency period, in 1976.
Therefore, is the conflict between India and Pakistan a religion vs religion or secularism vs religion?
The terrorists attacking India are all Muslims and they invoke the Koran. Their supporters in India are too and say that they will fight a Hindu India, not a Secular India.
Dr. Swamy added that from his personal experience, a large number of India’s Muslims want to be in India and not Pakistan.
The ISIS, Al Qaeda and Taliban refer to India as an unfinished chapter of Islam.
Wherever the Muslims are in majority in India, the Hindus are in trouble. Is this Darul Islam?
Hence, a growing Hindu consolidated polity is good because it destroys caste affinity. Seculars want Hindus divided and Muslims united.

India’s confusion in dealing with Pakistan is: Does Pakistan want even now slices of Indian territory by war, or Does Pakistan want to set India on fire to radicalize Muslims to accept the Caliphate concept?
India will never concede any territory. India is ready for war. India split Pakistan into two after four wars. India will split Pakistan into four the next time.
If war, then India needs to devote its attention to social engineering so as to create inter-faith unity over the national integrity.
r the above to bFoe achieved, all of India must consider itself as one, belonging to Hindustan.
The final question – Is War inevitable with Pakistan or can the problems be settled by dialogue?
Answer
War is inevitable if Pakistan does not contain its home trained terrorists. India is ready for them.
Dialogue to settle terror questions is not possible since Pakistan’s

Closed nationalism = "We share an origin".
Open nationalism = "We share a destiny".
I'll take the latter any day.

a. The Pakistan movement was about denial both of common destiny and common origin of India's Hindus and Muslims.

b. Post-independence, the "we share a destiny" in India is weakening, because the "we share a destiny" secular crowd wants to reduce Hindus to museum pieces; the closed nationalism seems stronger. However, note that PM Modi was successful with "we share a common {possibly great} economic destiny".

c. The US of A has been for the last many decades about "we share a destiny"; Trump's victory is a stunning reversion to closed nationalism.

Overall a very good discussion about India's foreign policy and our relationship with the powers like U.S, Russia and China. There is also a comedian speaking. So it also comes with some good entertainment. Especially the last part.

Another sick, sick incident. If the sympathy for the victims is even one fourth that of Saturday's bus accident in Canada( 15 dead- which is massive by Canadian standards) it would be remarkable. Am boiling mad, the frequency of these accidents is mind boggling. So many young lives snuffed out for what..absolutely nothing.

Since this thread is about Indian interests:

Some economic history. Data from the Maddison Project

The primary Indian interest is restoring India's position as ~30% of world GDP. India is historically the nation with the largest GDP for the longest time during the last two millenia.
