X-posted ,superb analysis of the Sardar,Indira and Nehru by Lt.Gen Sinha, the man who should've rightly been made the Army chief. Pluses and minuses of each of them analysed.Truly Sardar Patel was India's Bismark and a fil should be made about him on the lines of that of Gandhi.Great pity Attenborough has gone to that great film studio in the sky.

The Governor General’s Files: A travesty of history
DC | S.K. Sinha | November 19, 2014, 07.11 am IST

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi are national icons. Both made unparalleled contributions to India in different spheres.

The former unified a nation of continental dimension in a year, saving it from being splintered into over 550 separate political entities.

Except in the case of Hyderabad, this was done peacefully. In Hyderabad, the Indian Army had to carry out police action. The Hyderabad Army surrendered within five days and casualties were minimum.

Integrating such a large nation so peacefully in a year is unmatched in the history of mankind. The Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck’s much lauded unification of Germany starting with the war against Denmark in 1824, followed by war against Austria and then France in 1871, took much longer to complete and was on a much smaller geographical canvas involving far fewer people.

Indira Gandhi’s contribution as a war leader has a unique place in the history of our country. India won a great military victory after over two millennia. Ninety-two thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered.

A new nation of a hundred million was born. This was achieved against the teeth of opposition of the Nixon-Kissinger duo and also China’s higher-than-the-mountains and deeper-than-the-oceans friendship with Pakistan.

The threat from the US Seventh Fleet, including its nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Enterprise, coming to the Indian Ocean, proved to be of no avail for Pakistan.

It was being shadowed by Soviet submarines. The Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation was a big deterrent.

The Himalayan passes, blocked with snow in winter, prevented any intervention by China. Atal Behari Vajpayee hailed Indira Gandhi as Ma Durga in Parliament.

This after two millennia, when India had last won a great military victory when Chandragupta Maurya defeated Alexander’s great general and his successor in the East, Seleucus, and annexed Afghanistan. During the medieval period invaders from West Asia, and later European maritime powers, repeatedly defeated our forces.

Normally a leader’s birth anniversary, and not death anniversary, is observed. Mahatma Gandhi as the Father of the Nation is an exception.

The Nehru-Gandhi family (Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi) are also treated alike. In the case of others, only birth anniversaries are observed.

October 31 is the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel and the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi. The Congress government observed October 31 as National Ekta Divas because Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the unity of the nation.

This is debatable. Her tragic assassination was a great loss for the nation but it occurred due to her ill-conceived policy of dealing with the Akali problem, and not for national unity as such. It was a travesty of history that Sardar Patel used to be reduced to a footnote on this occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi very rightly turned the focus this time on Sardar Patel but did not omit to mention the martyrdom of Indira Gandhi on that day.

Her birth anniversary on November 19 should be observed as Rashtriya Shakti Divas in memory of her great contribution to India’s great victory in the Bangladesh War.

Yet on her birth or death anniversary functions, it will be inappropriate to criticise her. On Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary, the Bharatiya Janata Party paid rich tributes to Nehru but the Congress’ first family on that occasion made scathing remarks about of Mr Modi without naming him. This was most unbecoming.

One cannot ignore the grave blemishes of Indira Gandhi. She was outwitted by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto during the 1972 Shimla talks, giving away the two trump cards we held at that time 92,000 prisoners of war and the highly cultivable land in Shakargarh bulge.

We should have got Pakistan to convert the Line of Control to an international border. Her imposition of the Black Emergency and throttling of democracy was unforgivable.

Some of the excesses during that period exceeded those by the British during their rule. She destroyed the bureaucracy and the police and even tried to politicise the judiciary and the Army.

Corruption in public life spread like wildfire with her attitude of permissiveness in saying that corruption was an international phenomenon. By blatantly perpetuating family rule, she made feudalism rampant in our democracy.

Apart from his great contribution as the unifier of the nation, Sardar Patel also made other remarkable contributions. Like the Mahatma’s successful non-violent mass movement against indigo planters in Champaran, he organised a successful non-violent mass movement in Bordoloi, Assam.

The Mahatma gave him the title of Sardar. The Congress Party wanted to abolish All-India Services in pursuit of the concept of autonomy of states, and replace them with Central Services and State Services.

There was much prejudice against the ICS and the IP who had acted against the freedom movement; some had even committed excesses.

Nehru had said the ICS was neither Indian, nor civil, nor a service. The Sardar ensured that All-India Services were retained. ICS and IP officers continued to get their old emoluments and privileges.

Their successor services, the IAS and IPS, were recruited on reduced emoluments but there was no change in their functioning pattern. This enabled us to pull through the chaotic period in the wake of Partition, when a vacuum was created as British officers, holding most of the senior positions in the administration, suddenly quit. He told the civil servants that they must unhesitatingly give independent advice to their ministers even when they knew that it was contrary to the minister’s views. But once the latter took a decision, they must implement that loyally.

He was totally incorruptible. When he died he had a bank balance of Rs 237 and no immovable property. Neither his son nor his daughter took any advantage of his official position.

The daughter, who devoted her life to looking after him, received no recognition or help and died in poverty in Ahmedabad. All the provincial Congress committees except three chose the Sardar to be Prime Minister, two chose Dr Rajendra Prasad and one Jawaharlal Nehru.

Yet the Mahatma chose Nehru to be the first Prime Minister and the Sardar bowed to that decision without a murmur, working most loyally as deputy Prime Minister.

The ailing Sardar’s remarkable letter to Jawaharlal Nehru three weeks before he passed away showed his strategic vision. He warned Nehru of the threat arising from China’s occupation of Tibet in 1950 and advised necessary defensive preparations.

Alas, Nehru ignored his advice. Thus India suffered the great national humiliation of 1962. Mr Modi has very rightly focused on Sardar Patel’s great contribution on his birthday and is promoting national awareness about him.

The new government hurriedly produced a documentary on the basis of an earlier film. This was shown on DD National without much publicity.

It does not do full justice to the Sardar. Like Attenborough’s Gandhi, the government should have a commercial film prepared on Vallabhbhai Patel; that would wash away all the efforts of the Congress in the past to underplay the memory and unique contribution of this great icon of India.

The writer, a retired lieutenant-general, was Vice-Chief of Army Staff and has served as governor of Assam and Jammu and Kashmir

Nehru’s pacifism had nearly cost us Tawang

Thursday, 20 November 2014 | Claude Arpi |

It is entirely due to Major Bob Khathing's courage and swift action, backed by the Assam Governor, that Tawang is part of India. Had Jawaharlal Nehru had his way, it would have been Chinese territory today

While the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru is being discussed by ‘eminent’ personalities at the Nehru International Conference, organised by the Indian National Congress to commemorate Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary, it is perhaps time to stop using the usual clichés about the first Prime Minister’s 17 years at India’s helm. By the way, I seriously doubt if many of the invitees of the conference have read any of the 58 volumes of Nehru’s Selected Works.

During the recent months, many have questioned the audacity to compare Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to Nehru, but it is obvious that the Sardar would have been a far more decisive Prime Minister than the Pandit. Remember Kashmir.

In a rare interview, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was Director of Military Operations at the time of independence, recounted a historic meeting presided over by Lord Mountbatten held at the end of October 1947: “There was Jawaharlal Nehru, there was Sardar Patel, there was Sardar Baldev Singh… I knew Sardar Patel, because Patel would insist that VP Menon [Secretary in the Ministry of States] take me with him to the various states.”

The young Brigadier continues his narration: “At the morning meeting [Mountbatten] handed over the [Kashmir’s Instrument of Accession] thing. Mountbatten turned around and said, ‘Come on Manekji (he called me Manekji instead of Manekshaw), what is the military situation?’ I gave him the military situation, and told him that unless we flew in troops immediately, we would have lost Srinagar, because going by road would take days, and once the tribesmen got to the airport and Srinagar, we couldn’t fly troops in. Everything was ready at the airport.”

The future hero of the Bangladesh War then recalls: “As usual Nehru talked about the United Nations, Russia, Africa, God almighty, everybody, until Sardar Patel lost his temper. He said, ‘Jawaharlal, do you want Kashmir, or do you want to give it away?’ Nehru said, ‘Of course, I want Kashmir. Then [Patel] said, ‘Please give your orders’. And before he could say anything Sardar Patel turned to me and said, ‘You have got your orders’.” Without the Sardar, Kashmir would be Pakistani today.

In February 1951, Tawang found its own ‘Patel’ in Jairamdas Daulatram, the Governor of Assam, (the Iron Man of India had passed away two months earlier). Daulatram ordered a young Naga officer to go and immediately begin administrating Tawang (the then Kameng Frontier Agency).

A couple of years ago, an Indian journalist, Sidharth Mishra, provided a fascinating and detailed profile of Major Bob Khathing, the Naga officer in charge of the Sela sub-division: “In 1951, Major Bob Khathing commanded a force of 200 soldiers and re-established India’s sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh, much to the annoyance of Jawaharlal Nehru.” Some other documents, such as the ‘official’ biography, Major Bob Khathing — The profile of a Nationalist Manipuri Naga by Lt Col H Bhuban Singh, complete the picture of Major Khathing’s expedition.

An incident mentioned by Mr Mishra is worth a comment. Once the administration of Tawang was firmly under control, the bold Naga officer went back to Shillong to report to his mentor, Jairamdas Daulatram.

Mr Mishra writes: “So, he set out downhill to Tezpur with a small retinue, leaving the expeditionary force in charge of [Major TC] Allen. The Governor sent a Dakota to pick him up from Tezpur and they flew to Delhi to see Jawaharlal Nehru... The then Prime Minister was livid. ‘Who asked you to do this?’ he vented his anger at the Governor. ‘I wish you had the good sense to consult me before you commissioned this colossal stupidity. I want a complete blackout on this incident’, he ordered the PMO.”

Nehru’s orders were religiously executed: Today it is practically impossible to find anything on Khathing’s expedition in the Government’s archives. Nehru certainly had some inkling about the happenings in Tawang in the first months of 1951. Lt Colonel Bhuban Singh wrote: “From Bob’s side too, wireless messages after wireless messages were sent to Charduar [Assam Rifles headquarters], Shillong [seat of the Governor of Assam responsible for NEFA] and onward to New Delhi giving details of what he was doing. At the same time, he sought approval of Government of India for the actions he had taken and intended to take.”

Major Khathing’s biographer added: “Shillong [Rustomji] and New Delhi were aghast with what Bob did. They must have preferred a peaceful, non-violent and Panchsheel type of approach. While Shillong was reduced to a mere post-office forwarding information only, lots of consultations and conferences took place in New Delhi and lots of tea were drunk without any decision. In the meanwhile, Bob was… instructed not to precipitate a crisis.”

Major Khathing’s direct interlocutor was Nari Rustomji, the Advisor to the Governor of Assam for the Tribal Areas. SN Haksar, an ICS officer serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, was at the receiving end in New Delhi. Nehru, being the External Affairs Minister, was undoubtedly regularly informed by Haksar of such a sizeable military expedition.

It is possible that when Jairamdas Daulatram decided to send more than one hundred Assam Rifles troops (with over 600 porters) to Tawang, Nehru did not realise the implications of this decisive action for the nation. Retrospectively, it was a blessing for India as, if he had realised, Tawang would probably be Chinese today.

A top secret report entitled, ‘Major Khathing’s Detailed Report About Tawang, sent in April 1951 by the Secretary to Advisor to the Governor of Assam to SN Haksar, is the best proof that the Prime Minister was in the loop. Nehru may have said: “Who asked you to do this?”, but the fact remains that he was informed.

It is also a fact that it was legally the prerogative of the Governor of Assam to occupy any Indian territory under his responsibility and Tawang was definitely part of India since 1914. So, what was wrong in administrating a part of Indian territory?

A Chinese study on the McMahon line admitted that at that time, the Chinese had no clue about the border between India and Tibet: “When the 18th Army led by [General] Zhang Guohua invaded Tibet, they still did not have a Tibetan map that they could use. They only had a rough and simple map of Tibet showing subdivisions. There was not even a standard road map. The names of the places and the villages were neither precise nor accurate.” It is only in 1954-55 that Mao Zedong discovered Tawang had been administrated by Tibet before 1914. Too late then for China to ‘liberate' Tawang!

And thanks to Major Bob Khathing’s courage and swift action, it was too late for even Nehru to impose his pacifist views.

Anyone been watching this "Kissing protest" by the clueless lefties of India?

These buggers are trying to show how bigoted the BJP and the Hindus are..and how the Hindus and the BJP are like the ISIS and the Talibanies.. These buggers are sending out SOS to the liberals of the world... They have been so frustrated at the popularity of Modiji and the BJP so are unable to sit quioet are trying to show the world..the Hindus of India have elected the NAzies and the Talibanies.. And clueless liberals of the west are writing in their newspapers about how the "liberals" of India are standing up to the right wing Hindutuvadies by kissing in the open.

Ha HA! But you know what. I want some members of the LGBT community to use this opportunity and kiss in the open.. and I think that's a damned good idea. I hope the LGBT community hijacks this "kiss protest". Lets encourage the gays of India to march openly in Kerala where the many bigoted Church and Islamists live. Lets see how the Kerala bigots of the Church and Mosque tolerate the open kissing of the LGBT community.

Hindus have no religious opinion on gays.. so Lets support the LGBT and lets encourage them to hijack this "Kissing protest" as a LGBT cause.

Hey Church and Imams of India.. lookie here.. two Gals kissing.

There are some idiots in the BJP allegedly going around saying Hindus discovered Nuclear technology in its antiquity and what not. The angressie newspaper leftists are having a field day with this and trying to discredit the BJP and Modiji in what they are trying to do.

Modiji needs to cull these idjiats from the BJP. They are not helping...they are parasites to what Modji and the other BJP have achieved for the party.

But no matter what these fools say, lets be very clear, what he claimed as "historical fact" is not doing as much a harm to India as the congressie's "Nehruvian mythology that socialism is going to eradicate poverty". Not as bad as the communist indoctrination of our children in Bengal or Kerala.

the Hindus are not claiming the Mahabharata is history unlike the christians with their Bible as history or the Quran as history.

At least the BJP guy has some old texts which aver to nuclear technology. What can the "Macaulayist Rationalists" offer as evidence that that is false, other than ridicule? If they have the intellectual capability, why don't they prove that this Hindu bragger is wrong!

Those who oppose in bold, see for yourself
Opposition[edit]
Kiss of Love was met with opposition and criticism from certain sections of Indian society.[3] Several religious and political groups like Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, SDPI, Vishva Hindu Parishad, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Sena, Campus Front, Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sanghom, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Hindu Makkal Katchi and Ernakulam wing of Kerala Students Union opposed this movement.[12][13][14][15] These opposing groups claimed that public display of affection is against both Indian culture and the law of the land (under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code).[65] The Kerala State Women's Commission opposed Kiss of Love stating that it was against the culture of Kerala.[46][66]

The proposed Kiss of Love event in Bengaluru received opposition from several quarters. Manjula Manasa, chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission described the event as uncivilized.[67] Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, several Congress and BJP leaders and various Hindutva proponents too opposed it.[68] Pramod Muthalik of Sri Ram Sena, the organization behind 2009 Mangalore pub attack, has even threatened to take the law into his hands if the campaign is held.[69]

This guy has a clearer vision than most in our rent seeking press

Deciphering the Doval Doctrine
Rajaram Muthukrishnan

If these basic signals of the new potent foreign policy the government has been pursuing are understood, it should be clear that the coming decade will change the region in many ways as yet unimagined.

India’s foreign policy has undergone a sea change since the Modi government came to power. While there is a lot of hoopla about what Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are trying to achieve on the foreign policy front, it becomes important to separate the essence from all the noise that one hears around us. Hence I thought it is time to gently point out certain facts and trends.

We are seeing that a far more integrated approach to national security across all its dimensions—geopolitical, economic, military, socio-cultural, and science and technology—has been adopted. Evidence of this is there to see if we only pick up the signals: focus on the Inner Mandala (immediate neighborhood), Act East, engagement with Pakistan in a new manner, revving up the economic engine, Make in India, cleansing of institutions, drawing up a plan for rapid military-industrial complex building, intelligence upgradation, moving border areas high up on the development agenda, and so on.

There has been an unambiguous demonstration of national interest, be it with WTO negotiations or taking an offensive action against Pakistani entities in the latest standoff, or standing our ground against Chinese bala pariksha (test of strength) during their President’s visit.

Clearly, the Western power elite has accepted that things have changed in India, in terms of the long queues to get Modi to their country, from the United State government’s attempt to mend fences, to Australian and British efforts to reset their relationship with Modi. Not to mention the almost daily wailing across Pakistani channels about how India is way ahead and how they are getting to be irrelevant.

An important change is the willingness on the part of the GoI to engage the diaspora and integrate the vast presence and influence that they represent into articulation of Indian power projection. The positive response that this has evoked and very visible changes in processes and the government’s attitude towards them shows another intent—that India is ready to take on its responsibility towards them and work towards being a global player.

The PM has sent a very clear signal to the rest of the South Asian region, offering them a choice and chance. They have all been clearly told to take a stand in terms of building a region that is open, sensitive to one another’s interests and becoming more integrated. That is the choice that they have been asked to make. In terms of chance they have been provided an opportunity to be aligned with the overarching Indian vision of an integrated region. The neighbours will be allowed to partake in the economic resurgence and growth of India. They will be able to get Indian capital, expertise, and access Indian infrastructure.

These mega trends are pretty obvious. What does it therefore portend for the artificial entity called Pakistan and its international benefactors?

First and foremost, India will act without recourse to any other consideration to any other power, to protect its national interest. Any Pakistani misadventure will be dealt with through a composite response that will inflict disproportionate pain. It has already been demonstrated. Pakistan’s backers—the US and its allies, the Saudis and the Chinese—are now very aware that India will not be acting in a purely defensive manner any more.

The survival of the artificial entity called Pakistan will be left to itself. India will not do anything in terms of throwing a lifeline to this entity or the set of power elite that controls that entity to ensure its survival. Indeed, should the entity or the power elite there continue to act against Indian security or export terror, India will retaliate and ensure everything possible is done to hasten the implosion.

The Indian position with regard to Pakistan will not be based on any notions of what it will mean to Indian Muslims or potential fault lines that it might breach internally in India. There is a clear departure of the sub-conscious linking of Indian Muslims to the problem that the artificial entity called Pakistan poses to us. No longer will the GOI be shackled by those imaginary chains.

The above messages are being increasingly understood by the Pakistanis as well as their benefactors, as these are not mere posturing but what they see as action on the ground by India.

It is another matter that the biggest benefactor of Pakistan, the US, the sole superpower, is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain or control events in the rentier state. It is a reflection of the slow erosion in its capacity to use its still unsurpassed power and capabilities at the altar of geopolitical constraints.

What is not noticed or given any recognition and acknowledgement is the newfound clarity of purpose and unity in action on the part of the GOI. Even less understood is the full geostrategic impact of the General Elections and what it has meant in terms of expression of National Will by the people of India. This should be recognized as has been a true “Black Swan” moment.

If these basic signals are understood, it should be clear that the coming decade will change the region in many ways as yet unimagined.

Time to ban Monsanto and GM crops ,esp. if the EU can ban them!
Why should India be the guinea g\pig for the next generation of mutants?

http://rt.com/news/211811-eu-gm-monsanto-trojan/
Monsanto-killer or ‘Trojan Horse’? New law lets EU states ban GM crops
Published time: December 05, 2014
The European Union has approved a law that will enable the bloc’s 28 member states to restrict the cultivation of genetically modified crops, even if the EU has declared them as safe. The law comes despite furious lobbying from multinationals.

Previously, countries that opposed the cultivation of crops approved by Brussels potentially faced legal challenges. Now, any country may unilaterally ban a particular genetically modified variety of seed – or even “groups of GMOs defined by crop or trait” – and additionally demand that their neighbors do not contaminate their fields.

The EU legislation will come into force in spring next year, pending a formal agreement from the individual states. Among the states likely to find use for the statute are France, Germany, Austria and Poland, which have consistently opposed gene-splicing technologies.

“The agreement, if confirmed, would meet member states' consistent calls since 2009 to have the final say on whether or not GMOs can be cultivated on their territory, in order to better take into account their national context and, above all, the views of their citizens,” said a statement from EU Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis.

“The text agreed is in line with EU President Juncker’s commitment, as reflected in his political guidelines, to give the democratically elected governments at least the same weight as scientific advice when it comes to important decisions concerning food and environment.”

Some scientists and industry groups say the decision undermines the continent-wide system of certification, a key tenet of the EU’s common market, as well allowing irrational prejudices to overrule reasoned study. All previous EU-commissioned studies have failed to detect harm from GMOs.

Biotech giants had hoped that a clause would be included in the legislation that would force governments to consult with them before terminating any crop.

“Rejecting modern technologies on non-scientific grounds sets a dangerous precedent for the internal market and sends a negative signal for innovative industries worldwide considering whether or not to invest and operate in Europe,” said a written statement from EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries.

Yet some believe that the new law will allow the deadlock over GM crops to be broken after nearly two decades of controversy. Due to opposition from the EU heavyweights, only one GM crop has been approved since 1998. About 0.1 percent of land on the continent is used to grow genetically-modified crops, specifically Monsanto’s MON810 maize.

Officials have speculated that the new nation-oriented rules will allow more leeway for proponents of GM crops, such as Britain and the Iberian states, to go ahead.

The new law is "finally opening the door to genetically-modified organisms across Europe, in spite of citizens' clear opposition," said Green MEP Bart Staes, who called the new proposal a “Trojan Horse.”

Meanwhile, market leader Monsanto, which last year said it would not try to get any more GM crops approved in Europe, remained unperturbed, insisting its business does not rely on favors from the EU.

“What we sell in Europe today is 99.5 percent conventional seeds. So if you think about it, we are not a GMO company,” Leticia Goncalves, the company’s Europe and Middle East regional president, told the media.

“To be honest, we have a very healthy business today in terms of growth expectations,” said the executive of the US-based company, which had revenues of nearly $15 billion last year.

I am reminded of those hush-hush whispers of deep involvement of Tatas with Anglo Saxons.......

REVEALED: HENRY KISSINGER’S ROLE IN BHOPAL GAS DEAL
Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger put pressure on the Indian Government to agree a legal settlement that let the American chemical company Union Carbide off-the-hook for the 25,000 people killed by the toxic gas disaster in Bhopal 30 years ago, said Scottish Delhi, Herald Scotland.

A letter released under freedom of information legislation reveals that the late Indian steel magnate JRD Tata wrote secretly to the Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, in May 1988 conveying Kissinger’s concern about the delays in reaching agreement on the compensation to be paid to victims.

^^This does not mean JRD Tata was putting pressure on the Indian government, simply conveying something he heard from Kissinger... It does not mean he was taking a position. In any event, once he heard of it directly, it was pretty much his duty to convey it... This neither new nor unique. I am fairly certain that such thoughts are often passed on through high-level industrialists, intellectuals, etc...

To put it another way, JRD Tata could have told Kissinger to tell the government himself (and he may have told him so), but nevertheless he still had to tell GoI... What would anyone do in such a situation? Pretty much what JRD Tata did.

Saar, I am not sure how can a private individual write secretly to the PM of India. Indian Govt, may have kept it classified as secret for other reasons.

Looks like the word secretly was deliberately put here to create a sense of intentions other than an obvious communication of message.

JRD wrote the letter to Rajiv Gandhi who had it classified as HK is an anathema to India.

So where was the letter released? India or US.

:rotfl: A group of poor people in India were converted from one religion to another religion by way of promise of gift of sorts and this has upset the congress party and they are raising hell in Parliament... Hmmm... I'd be darned. That sure breaks my heart.

So does this mean, the congress favors banning such "not so nice" stuff?

Yes involvement with the ruling elite but Anglo Saxons might be incomplete.
Why do we make gods of these people? They are just industrialists.
Same with Ambani who buys privatized Indian assets to offload them to BP.

I am surprised the trashy "The Hindu" even published this article. This article was in the Indian Railways newspaper about 20 years ago. A story worth telling.

About JRD Tata, to his credit, he was among the Indian industrialists who demanded the Indian gold back when the world was switching to gold during international industrialization.

Can BRF folks stop this silliness in an effort to attack banditjee ... he had his flaws and many errors for which he can be attacked; but why are we seeing this obvious silly forgery on multiple threads? See the spelling errors (concider, Jwaharlal), phrases (...take a note of it), wrong address, no seal, paper from some raddi dump, and with no aim - just 'take a note of it and do proper and fit'. '

Call for US backing to resolve Siachen

New Delhi, Dec 14, 2014,

The vexed Siachen issue can be resolved only if the United States (US) backs one of the two proposals on the table on demarcating the boundary in the icy heights, which has been at the core of the India-Pakistan dispute, former Indian Ambassador Prabhat Shukla said on Saturday.

Shukla, who served as India’s envoy to Russia and Australia, said the Americans depict the Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) in the North-Easterly direction towards the Karakoram Pass, while the 1949 agreement takes the line due north to the Indira Kol which is the boundary at Shaksdar Valley.

“I have suggested to them, they can adopt our AGPL or they could just stop depicting the line beyond NJ-9842 and use a colour wash to depict a sympathy towards the Indian position,” he said at the Deccan Herald National Conference on “Shaping 21st Century: India, the US and China” here.

On the other side, he said, the Americans are looking forward to India defining its global posture. “Are we with the Chinese in the Asia-Pacific region or are we not,” Shukla asked. He was speaking at a session on “Bilateral, Regional and Global Contexts of Indo-US relations” chaired by former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid.

Shukla said the upcoming visit of US President Barack Obama to India provided New Delhi with a suitable occasion to clear the air on these issues.

The Siachen issue has its roots in history. The Cease Fire Line (CFL) and the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir were delineated by the Karachi agreement 1949 and the Shimla agreement 1972 respectively, up to Point NJ 9842.

The Indian Army has been occupying the heights since 1984, negating Pakistan’s anticipated move to do the same.

Another of India’s concerns is the rise of China’s military strengths, economic clout and growing aggressiveness and assertiveness vis-à-vis India and its neighbours in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chintamani Mahapatra, Professor at the School of International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, said he has a clear sense that Chinese President Xi Jingping was keen to clarify the boundary with India, but has run into some trouble back home. “Can he deliver? I cannot say. But we need to test him,” Mahapatra said.

Earlier, Khurshid said Obama’s visit to India to take part in the Republic Day was a high point in the India-US relationship.

On todays News.

Quote

"Should Christmas be a Holiday in India? Yes..it should be a Holday for Christians.. Its unjust to take that away from them. So the 2% christians should have a day off for Christmas. I will fight for their right to religious freedom.

But at the same time, lets not force the other 98% to celebrate the birth of some mythological character not of their own. I'll fight others right to religious freedom too.

While at it, lets demand of countries where christians are the majority to give a day off for other major religion…like for e.g. Eid… or Diwali etc.

Listen America, Canada, Europe, Oz, unless you give a day off for Diwali stay away from this fight…Capish! just sayin!

Best is to have floating holidays in schools and companies --- everyone can pick 5 holidays of their choice, and if you have more than 5 festival days, well, too bad. That way christians can take christmas off and show up in school for diwali and vice versa.

Only minorities should have floating holidays, not majority. Otherwise, whole office will remain open just because one christian and two Muslims decided to work on Diwali, while rest of employees are on leave

Generally, Sundays are holidays. 52 weeks per year means 52 sundays. These days, saturdays are also given as holidays in most offices. So, 52 saturdays.

52 sundays + 52 saturdays + 20 public holidays = 120 holidays in an year of 360 days.

I don't think it is such a bad thing because people do need some respite in their day to day life. If people work properly for 240 days in an year, then its more than enough. Trying to squeeze in a few extra days will only bring down the productivity of the people.

So, better idea is to give a choice: 120 holidays in total(including sunday, saturday or whatever else) for everyone(except maybe in places where there is shortage of personnel). People can choose which 120 days they want to take leaves.

In simple terms, 4 months holidays and 8 months work. If people work properly for 8 months, it would extremely great.

For example:
Hindhus - 60 Festivals + 26 Ekadhashis+ extra cushioning = 120.
christists - 52 Sundays + Christmas + Easter + Good Friday + extra cushioning = 120.
Jews - 52 Saturdays + extra cushioning = 120
Shias & Sunnis - 52 Fridays + Id + Extra Cushioning = 120

I think if floating holidays are allowed, then most minorities may work on Hindhu holidays. So, the services will be open most of the time. And Hindhus will work on days when minorities take off.

Generally, most people will work on most of the days and this floating holidays idea allows the local customizations. For example, on Muharram day, only the Shias might take leave. All others will work. On Christmas, only christists might take leave and others will work.

Of course, this floating holiday idea will not work in places where most of the people have to be present. For example, schools and colleges.

mm..I'd like to make an amendment to that. The real minorities of the world like the Sikhs, Jains, Parsies, Zorastrians who live in India have no other place they call home than India. These minorities should have a national holiday we can all celebrate with.

But the world two Goalith religion cannot claim such minority status anywhere. And since they are just 2% in India, the 98% of the "others" should not be forced to celebrate other peoples mythology. This is reciprocal based on when most of the christian majority countries would give a national holiday for the worlds major religion and not just christianity.

We have taken this for granted..and I am glad people are starting to question this BS. Why is it that the US, OZ, EU, UK etc don't have a national holiday for Eid or for Diwali? These are all major religions of the world.. Why are the rest of the world celebrating on Dec 25th? Its absurd! Why not India throw away the shackles of colonialism?
