I haven't watched the video but going by the comments, I would make the following points

1. If pak is an irrational player why did TSPA force NS to beg with the Americans for a honorable exit? Why not just nuke India?
2. TSPA knew its goose was cooked in Kargil and wanted a honorable way out. So they used the bogey of nukes to get the worlds attention and pull the Americans in to do an equal-equal.
3. The Americans of-course knowing the truth put the onus of deescalation squarely on the Pakis. But handed this opportunity they used it to convince India how they saved our part of the world from a potential catastrophe.
4. Used the pak bravado to reinforce the no-clear flashpoint argument. Vested interests in India keeps harping on "peace at any cost" and gets away with that propaganda precisely because of the no-clear flashpoint argument.

In the recent Indo-Pak test series... the whole execution was planned and executed by the BSF... its political boss, HM Rajnath Singh made 1-2 statements... in 10-12 days. DM Jet-Li, fresh from his hospital room, visibly looking irritated, made a comments consisting of 10-12 lines, with the crucial sound-bite being "un-affordable' price" . PM Modi uttered FIVE words... "sab kuch tik hojayaga"...

But IN this internationalize crisis there was hardly a murmur from Foreign Minister (FM) Sushma Swaraj or her Deputy Gen V K Singh...why...

1) India treated it as an law and order problem.
2) It was the BSF which was handling the matter and not even the RR let alone the IA.
3) The man in uniform who was the face to the whole thing was DGP BSF, not an
IA Corps Commander (XVI corps is responsible for the area), not the Norther command
Chief, Not the COAS of the Army or the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff committee
which is the ACM Raha.

but neither FM or her deputy were idle, they kept in touch with UN chief, Pakistan's benefactors (3.5
friends US, China, Saudi Arabia and Japan (the half)). Also updated were the remaining P5 countries.

the Foreign office kept issuing press notifications via PTI which was picked up by all press outlets in and outside the country...

hence
1) no UN Intervention
2) no call for cease fire, no mediation
3) no threat of nuclear escalation or anyone parroting Pakee claims of nuclear war...

the worst part was, the Indian NSC did not even convene, NSC Ajit Doval did not even meet the press. Statements from people like Lt Gen (retd) S A Hasnain,
Former Amb G Parthasarathy, convener of BJP's foreign policy cell Seshadri Chari were all eagerly watched because there was nothing else coming from the govt.

PM Modi made things worse by saying "Jawans are speaking with their bullets, why should Politicians speak"... all this has cause lots of brown shalwars in Pindi as they have no way of reading what's next from India, where the next blow will come, will India bring out the big guns... NOTHING...

NOTHING for Pakistan, NOTHING for the world public, NOTHING for the News Traders and NOTHING by way of politicking...just plain ACTION and it speaks the loudest.

Musharraf kicking in the border alone is not enough, we need to do a better job to pacify and integrate JK. Pakistan problem isnt going away till periodic protests and violence breaks out in the valley. In the decade that MMS was in power, this was our greatest missed opportunity. There is another window of opportunity we have, maybe for 1-2 years. This is when Paki army is busy on its western front in Zam-Zam-e-Eyewash providing support and logistics to the Taliban (and being there in force, so they dont get any ideas and ambitions apart from Afghanistan) till they take over Afghanistan. I hope we dont squander it.

No-clear weapons are weapons of pieces this is why they are kept in pieces. Laugh it off when someone says they will use it.

Do what you need to, instead of saying what you need to do.

A breath of fresh air from the pappi-jhappi days of Dr. MMS. Recall that Dr. MMS said there can be "no business as usual" after the beheading of our soldiers yet he did business as usual and met NS in NY (sidelines of UN GA session). Indeed, India has changed.

I call the approach by NDA pressure cooker approach.
You limit yourself by putting on a lid but use high intensity fire from below.
like using only BSF as a force (and rangers as adversary) and mortars as weapon in this case
or limiting the area to LOC in Kargil during ABV's time.
This keeps the intensity focused and speeds up the cooking.
This is what is meant by various options available to India under the nukular umbrella.

edit: Jet li saying adventurism will be made unbearably costly also means escalating will to army/ artillery levels will be costlier. That is the heavy lid of the cooker.

Working Boundary is that part of IB that has some disputes - apparently the Rann of Kutch region and some parts of Punjab and J&K are under this category. I don't recall that this was ever referred to officially as Working Boundary by GoI . DDM will be DDM, but I hope that none of the official GOI outlets or spokesperson start using the term.

On the other hand, we can make the IB as Working Boundary, and as the distinguished Mongolian gent who graces these forums says, we can keep working on the boundary westward every Fridin!

Six top TTP commanders announce allegiance to Islamic State's Baghdadi - DAWN
Six top commanders of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, including spokesman Shahidullah Shahid, have announced their allegiance to Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi of the Islamic State and an allegiance statement was also issued in this regard.

Shahidullah Shahid in the statement said he along with five TTP district chiefs have announced their allegiance to IS, also known as Daish, and would be their lead fighters in Pakistan.

The statement did not elaborate on the stance of the six on Mullah Omar, chief of the Afghan Taliban widely regarded by militant groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan as the Amirul Momineen (leader of the faithful).

“I am confirming my allegiance to Amirul Momineen Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi and would abide by all his decisions, whatever is the order, and whatsoever the circumstances, I shall be loyal to him and obey his orders,” Shaidullah Shahid said in a statement issued in Arabic and Urdu.

Shahidullah said he along with TTP amir for Orakzai Agency Saeed Khan, TTP’s Kurram Agency chapter chief Daulat Khan, Fateh Gul Zaman, who heads TTP in Khyber Agency, TTP’s Peshawar amir Mufti Hassan and TTP’s Hangu chief Khalid Mansoor, was announcing allegiance to Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi Al Qureshi Al-Hussaini.

Shahidullah further said that the statement was on his and the five commanders’ behalf and had nothing to do with TTP.

He added that TTP chief Mullah Fazlluah had extended his support to Al-Baghdadi but had not announced allegiance to Daish. How will the decision of the six TTP commanders be viewed and taken by Fazlullah whose allegiance currently lies with Mullah Omar is still a matter of speculation but the announcement comes at a time when the outlawed group is already experiencing fissures and is the main target of a military operation in North Waziristan.

Shahidullah further said that he had already extended his allegiance three times to Al-Baghdadi and it was the fourth time that he and his associates were extending allegiance to the IS chief.

Shahidullah said he first announced support to Al-Bagdadi before the latter’s announcement of Khilafat, the second time in last Ramazan through Abu Huda Sudani, a third time through Abu Al-Khitab Shami through telephone and now again.

With the IS trying to make inroads into South Asia, there are concerns about further turmoil in the region.

The TTP has been beset by bitter internal rivalries over the past year, with the influential Mehsud tribal faction of the group refusing to accept the authority of Fazlullah, who came to power in late 2013.

It moreover appears that IS, in an effort to extend its global reach, is aiming to exploit these rivalries to its advantage and wade into the region.

Agnimitra ji,

if you want to be considered as native or well-acquainted with natives, you have to cuss like native. No?! She owes her position and pay to her ability to portray herself as the expert on the region! No better way to show it by cussing 5 times in a sentence!

Lofty rail project gets underway

Some Senators were surprised to learn on Monday that the federal government has already floated a company, awarded a contract and provided Rs2 billion in seed money for what had seemed so far “a lofty idea” - its plan to link Islamabad, Murree and Muzaffarabad by train.

Members of the Senate Standing Committee on Railways were informed in a briefing that a company ‘Kashmir Railway’ has been formed, an Austrian company contracted for Rs57 million to prepare the feasibility report of the approximately 110-kilometre long rail project, and Rs2 billion allocated to start the work. Senator Mir Mohammad Ali Rind of the Balochistan National Party-Awami chaired the meeting.

2 Billion paki rupees is approx 1 billion SDRE rupees which translates to 10 crore for Indian people. It takes approx 1 crore for 1KM track. So do the math how far the money will take them from Isloo

Senator Taj Haider of the PPP was perplexed how a company could be formed for the government project without legislation.

“We even do not know whether the company is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. How come the company has been released Rs2 billion,” he said, adding, “Unfortunately some people have very low regard for law.”

Karachi's central jail no more safe: Sindh minister

missed posting it yesterday but this is worth reading & discussing. Just how bad the law and order situation is. I know a friend from Faislabad whose parents were living in Karachi for past few years and they decided to pack up and go back to pakjab coz karachi was not safe at all. Know some one else who is from Karachi whose relative was goatnapped. The guy is just plain upper middle class but the gangs are so desperate they are willing to pick any one for few lakh rupees

The minister’s remarks came a day after paramilitary Rangers said that they had thwarted a banned group’s bid to tunnel into the main prison and stage a jailbreak aimed at releasing 100 dangerous militants. Speaking to journalists, Wasan said that the government has a plan to build three new jails and shift the central jail to somewhere along the Super Highway.

Ms Fair has it exactly right. No American, westerner or anyone else will give a damn about these comments - but they will strike deep into the egos of the Pakis they are aimed at. In fact we at BRF have been doing something similar for over a decade.

Looks like TTP has gone to pieces post Hakimullah . "Mullah Radio" is probably busy ducking from the drones and calling endless jirgas to pacify his mutant commanders.

I suspect Ms. Fair changed tack on Pakistan because she has a brother in the military. Probably it is as simple as this: no one with loved ones and friends in line of fire of Pakistan's proxies in Afghanistan can support the US official policy on Pakistan.

It is basically advocacy-debate or lawyering. They simply get hold of what they think is the most plausible argument for their client and earnestly present that. Engaging with it as though it is a real question amounts to tangling with a shadow and distracts their enemy--us--from his purpose.

MEA is aware of this. The spokesman's response was just as lawyerly: these are the same people who hid Osama for 10 years and lied about it, that's all I am going to say.

Just goes to show the lack of any spine among Paki worms. Instead of projecting Mullar Omar as the legitimate Caliph, these worms jump ship and go and kiss the shoes of Al-Baghdadi!

No Pushtoon honor in this! Why does some Al-Baghdadi have to be the Caliph? Why can't a Pushtoon try and become Caliph?! Just shows their utterly enslaved mind! Taliban does not have any self-respect and neither do they deserve respect of others! All coward worms!

She gets to play punjabi mard. A western white woman's privilege is to pick any third-world civilizational role for her amusement.

Martha Nussbaum wrote in her book that she loved Hinduism for its Shiva-Parvati sexual play, which liberated her from Jewish repression. She was angry that Hindus are exploring other aspects such as Bhadrakali and Ramachandra.

Whites believe that they own "oriental" culture. Check gay Lawrence of Arabia playing Arabbi dress-up and role play including baccha bazi.

It is symbolic emasculation of warriors of conquered tribe. Ranjit Singh did it to pakis; Arjuna did it to Kaurava warriors in uttara-gograhanam when he took the helmet plumes of kauravas for Uttara to use for her dolls.

OT for this thread.

Musharraf for tit for tat response to India
* Says Modi is anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan politician; justifies action against former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry
In an interview with a private news channel, the former military ruler spoke his heart  about ongoing skirmishes with India. He said Pakistan has limitations as it knows that if it responded with shelling, the Kashmiri brethren on the other side of the LoC would be the ultimate sufferers. Musharraf said the Indian government and the army has no concern for the sufferings of the Kashmiri people. “Mr Modi is an anti-Muslim and an anti-Pakistan politician. While negotiating with him one must hold cards close,” Musharraf said. “Instead of running to attend his (Modi) inauguration like we used to do in British Raj, we should keep our dignity :(( ,” the former president said.
I have always led from the front even as an army commander and its chief during war and peace. My fellow soldiers and peers respected me and respect me.
However, what can I do? If our courts after 10 years are absolving people like Asif Zardari of 8 out of 10 cases.
“In my time, Pakistanis were respected and had honour globally, but now they walk with their heads down unfortunately,” he said. “What this so-called democracy has given to the nation and its people apart from weakening it?”
Musharraf admitted trusting some wrong people but insisted that it was unintentional. “The character of all those people showed up when chips were down,”
“There is a lack of national character and reason why due to the patwari and thana culture the pseudo politicians want to remain with those who are in power. I feel sorry for such politicians and people who ditched me after enjoying power during my time,” he reiterated. He said he is not a vindictive person and never took any revenge from the Sharif family.

Pakistan ready, India stalling dialogue: Aiyar
‘Whether retaliatory fire a BJP’s innovation or Indians have become a war-mongering nation?’
NEW DELHI – Indian lawmaker and former minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that Pakistan is a sovereign nation, it makes its own assessment of threats to its security and the kind of talk they have heard in recent days from Indian leaders only persuades them that they are right in regarding India as the biggest threat to their security.

In a talk show over an Indian TV channel, he warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his threats that Indian guns would do the talking and pointed out that if losing half their country in 1971 and leaving 90,000 prisoners of war in Indian hands has not dimmed Pakistan's zeal to protect itself, big words from Indian end were not going to make them grovel at Modi's feet.

Aiyar – a member of the Rajya Sabha, upper house of the Indian parliament – strongly criticised Defence Minister Arun Jaitley thumping of his chest and proclaiming that they have given the Pakistanis a "jaw-breaking reply" and told him that the Pakistanis were still there – with their jaw quite intact and a nuclear arsenal nestling in their pockets.

He questioned whether retaliatory fire was a BJP innovation or was it that Indians have ceased being peace-loving and become a war-mongering nation? Aiyar said the idea that India has terrified Pakistanis into submission by shelling a few homes and killing a few soldiers and several innocents might be a myth that washes here but it was far, far from the truth.

“The danger is that we will forget the limits that divide peace from war,” he said. “This Indian act marginalises the sane voices across the border and brings Pakistanis of all hues and colours together in the defence of their homeland. The language of the ‘akhara’ is not the language of statesmen. And war is not a continuation of diplomacy by other means; it is a confession of the breakdown of diplomacy,” he told those running the affairs of the BJP government in New Delhi.

He told the BJP leadership that Dr Manmohan Singh showed, especially during the first three years of his government, how much could be achieved by talking to Pakistan instead of shooting at them. “Even Kashmir was tackled on the back-channel. It was agreed that territories could not be changed nor populations exchanged. What was needed was fostering exchanges of all kinds between Kashmiris on both sides of the LoC - the restoration of Kashmiriyat by fostering exchanges between people, relatives, friends, media, goods and services across the LoC in a two-way traffic,” he said.

He said that Pakistan has repeatedly – even with the change of regime in India – shown that it was ready to talk with India. “It is we who are stalling the dialogue. But as the history of the last 20 years has shown, proxy war in Kashmir did not come in the way of Vajpayee's bus journey to Lahore; Kargil and the parliament attack did not stop the invitation to Musharraf to come to Agra; nor did it prevent Vajpayee from going to Lahore to sign a joint declaration that presaged the resumption of dialogue,” he said.

“26/11 certainly threw the spanner in the works but was not enough to forestall the invitation to Nawaz Sharif to the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. So, a ‘munh thorr jawab’ is for domestic consumption, a pathetic attempt at proving the breadth of the prime minister's chest,” he said. He also said that the bigger danger was that overblown rhetoric can tip the subcontinent over the precipice. The parallels between the events that sparked WWI and the contemporary India-Pakistan situation were striking.

Why does Pakistan need Mushrat when it has this gent on Indian TV.

The spin has started. Pakistan has won by making India realize the folly of its action.

India ‘willing’ for ‘serious dialogue’ with Pakistan
Realising repercussions of its unprovoked firing along the Working Boundary and the Line of Control in the disputed state, India on Tuesday said that it was willing for a serious dialogue with Pakistan on all outstanding issues including Jammu Kashmir.

Saar I just posted the spin part ... the farticle is based on press briefing given by MEA. Even Modi ji has accepted that there should be a dialog but without the shadow of terror. So India ‘willing’ for ‘serious dialogue’ with Pakistan is true.

To be true we are more powerful and better equipped than Pakis
so its not our duty to coerce piggistan for a dialogue. Pakistan is an illegal territory and should be taken back inside India.
