Setting aside all the logical arguments lets say Bakis do Nuclear bomb a non-nuclear Afghanistan. What will happen to Bakistan in the aftermath? The world will have no option BUT to jointly nuclear bomb Bakistan to the stone-age.

TFT:
For starters, there are three areas where progress will indicate a seriousness of purpose in the civil-military leadership. First, since Gen Raheel Sharif has probably committed himself to a quid pro quo for obtaining the help of the Afghans and Americans to eliminate Mullah Fazlullah of the TTP in the borderlands of Afghanistan; he will have to bring Mullah Umar or the Haqqanis to the negotiating table with Kabul under threat of abandoning them and denying them safe havens in Pakistan. This objective must be accomplished quickly before Kabul and Washington lose faith in the Pakistani army chief like they did in his predecessor General Kayani.

Second, PM Nawaz Sharif must signal his resolve on three fronts: he must put Maulana Abdul Aziz in the locker and take steps to remove the terrorist stigma attached to Islamabad’s Lal Masjid; he must prosecute the LJ leaders who preach and practice sectarian murder regardless of the party-nomenclature under which they operate; and he must convict the perpetrators of the Mumbai massacre so that the world acknowledges our commitment not to meddle in the internal affairs of our neighbours.

Third, he must seriously engage the military leadership in a concrete, result-oriented discussion on national security paradigms, the nature of the internal vs external existential threat to Pakistan and the role of non-state jihadi-actor-assets in Pakistan. Without this, there can be no long-term solution.

How cute? In return for killing Mullah Fazlullah, Pakistan will "force" Mullah Omar and the Haqqanis to "negotiate" with Afghans!! Between Mullah Omar and the Haqqanis, they have killed far more children and adults in Afghanistan than a hundred Fazlullahs! Should a repayment for a head be a head? Or are they trying to barter head for some hot air negotiations?

Neela wrote:That Paki encounter is actually standard. Nothing new or shocking there. There is a constant _denial of reality_ and Pakis tend to fixate on Kashmir - which seems to be their excuse or _escape mechanism_. If not Kashmir it is Jews or USA>
And they consistently demonstrate this - forgetting what is real and somehow think Kashmir issue is the root cause of all problems. They think if the Kashmir issue is resolved, Pak will immdly transform into land of milk, honey and 72 million virgins.

So on this "denial of reality" and "escape mechanism" - it reminded me of something I read in the book "Phantoms in the Brain" from a neuroscientist callled Dr.Vilayanur Ramachandran . He explains that there is a syndrome called Anosognosia . It occurs in patients who have had some recent traumatic events affecting the brain - like a stroke or something which basically paralyses left of right side of the brain. When the right side of the brain is damaged resulting in paralysis of left side of the body, the patient sometimes does not seem to realize or register it. And patients lie blatantly. When Dr.Ramachandran asked one such patient to touch the (the Dr's) nose with hist left hand, he said he has arthritis and hence cannot move his arm. Ramachandran feels that sometimes the brain does not want to confront the existential reality and seeks escape mechanisms.

This thing somehow fits with Pakis. That abomination of a country cant do sh1 but constantly blames Hindus,
KAshmir, American, Jews, and the million conspiracy theories for everything and anthing - all that is a scape mechanism. They dont want to confront reality. And that is because of repeated traumatic experiences that have damaged them psychologically. IOW, what I want to say is this - the Pakis are mental.

Neela thanks. I used to say Islam kills the right brain as all creativity and thinking is dead. Now have medical proof of virtual stroke of the brain from Abrahamic religions.

Will buy the book for better understanding.

In the eyes of Pakistanis, this is a very "crazy" guy who actually calls for bringing the masterminds of 26/11 to justice

Not sure if he still lives in Pakistan or in hiding, but he is the first Pakistani to directly criticize Islam in this article from 2013. very powerful and hard hitting article.

The name Luqman reminds me of, while travelling via train in hinterlands of UP, on every city entry and exit there are big ads of "Mardana Kamzori Mareej mile.... Hakim Luqman se"... with some different address and mobile no mentioned on each ad. Basically this Hakim Luqman is some Unani medicine quack treating people for "Mardana Kamzori" or Hexual problems/ED etc.....
I always used to think are all quacks are named Luqman or every city has one quack named Luqman like this.

Guys, had a long conversation with a Paki at a local Indian grocery store worth sharing. Forget about how it started, but it ended up talking about Peshawar attack. Like a programmed Paki, he repeated the same crap about how TSP is not going to make any distinction between "good" and "bad" Taliban. I said how about "good" and "bad" terrorists. He said yes, that too, Paki army is very powerful with nukes and no terrorist can mess with it. I then asked how come Haeez pig and Lakhvi are roaming free. He dismissed them as insignificant. I said what are you talking about, they are responsible for attacking India. Then he said, they will be taken out once "Kashmir issue" is resolved, because then they will become "irrelevant". By this time, I knew this guys was trained well in ISI speak.

Then I asked what do you mean by "Kashmir issue" being resolved? He said plebiscite and even UN declares it so, its an international issue. I asked him if he knew what the UN resolutions actually call for. He had no clue, or was beating around the bush repeating plebiscite garbage. Then I asked him, how about the recent election, 70+ turnout, isn't that the people talking? He said no that turnout is a rumor. He said the turnout was less than 30%. I asked where he got that #, he CNN and CBS :-). I had enough by this point, and politely said see you.

Who Should Worry About Pakistan’s School Carnage?
The war on terror and the continued Taliban slaughter of Pakistani citizens have given birth to an educated yet highly nationalistic and confrontational youth. While they do not endorse the senseless Taliban killings of innocent citizens, they are also weary of the Western media’s reporting of these incidents. These young Pakistanis are highly agitated about their country’s depiction in foreign media outlets. I often attend events where Pakistani exchange students and visitors speak to American audiences. There is a unanimous plea in their presentations: We are not terrorists. I empathize with them but I also strongly believe Pakistanis should have brutally honest conversations about the role of Islam and Islamic religious schools in promoting these violent ideologies. Pakistan truly has a problem with Islam and it needs to be addressed.

US gives Pakistan a free pass — and $1 billion — by ignoring LeT, LeJ - Chidanand Rajghatta, ToI
The United States may well have subscribed to Pakistan's policy of "bad terrorists" (from its Afghan front, who mostly attack Pakistan and US) versus "good terrorists" (from West Punjab, who mostly attack India).

A defence authorization bill signed by President Barack Obama last week that provides for $1 billion in aid to Pakistan in 2015 conditions it on Islamabad taking steps to disrupt the Haqqani Network and eliminating safe havens of al-Qaida and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan {but not Afghan Taliban?}.

However, it makes no mention of the Punjab-centric terror groups such as the Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) aka Jamaat-ul-Dawa (JuD), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and others that are considered proxies of the Pakistani state.

A review of the 1640-page text of S.1847, formally known as the Carl Levin and Howard P 'Buck' McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 {like the Pressler Amendment or the watererd down Kerry-Lugar-Berman Act, sections of this act were probably drafted in Islamabad}, shows US emphasis on calling Pakistan to account for terrorist activity on its western flank, mainly through the Taliban, which impacts the US drawdown in Afghanistan.

It makes the $1 billion US aid contingent on Pakistan taking steps that have "demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that North Waziristan does not return to being a safe haven for the Haqqani network." It also seeks a description of any strategic security objectives that the US and Pakistan have agreed to pursue and an assessment of the effectiveness of any US security assistance to Pakistan to achieve such strategic objectives.

But missing from the legislation is any concern, let alone any conditions, about Pakistan's fostering of the Punjabi terror groups such as LeT that not only attacked Mumbai on 26/11 (an incident in which six Americans were also killed), but also the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a sectarian outfit that has killed hundreds of Pakistani Shias.

Both groups are patronized by Pakistan's military and political establishments, which derive their power from the country's heartland of west Punjab, much like the terror groups themselves.

A charitable explanation for the legislative oversight (or lack of it) maybe to take into account the broad and fleeting reference to "other militant extremist groups" in the text of the legislation. But in a remarkable coincidence, the Pakistan establishment began freeing its so-called "good terrorists" from Punjab even as President Obama signed the defense authorization bill on December 19. The easing up also followed the Pakistani army chief Gen Raheel Sharif's visit to Washington DC last month.

In a series of moves demonstrating the Pakistani establishment was easing up on its own terrorist proxies in return for acting on US concerns, the Pakistani courts first released 26/11 planner Zaki-ur Lakhvi from prison, temporarily holding him back following Indian outrage; Islamabad then dawdled over filing replies in court in the case against JuD chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and his deputy Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki, saying it is yet to get response to its questions from the US; most recently, it released LeJ head Malik Ishaq, who is accused of scores of sectarian murders inside Pakistan, before extending his incarceration for two weeks following outrage within Pakistan.

All this time, it has made a big to-do over the Peshawar school attack being a turning point in its fight against terrorism, hanging some half dozen "bad terrorists" from the Taliban stock while taking the heat off Punjab-based terrorist groups. The country's ruling Punjabi elite, including the Prime Minister and the Army chief, have made grandiose statements about how Pakistan owes it to future generations to fight terrorism and how the days of terrorists are numbered etc.

In a speech earlier this week, Prime Minister Sharif promised to take action against all terrorist groups, including those from Punjab. He also promised to take measures against media sources that "empower terrorism."

But in a review of the Pakistani media, Tufail Ahmed, an analyst with the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), found that even as there was an upsurge in sentiment against jihadists in Pakistan's small liberal press (read by outsiders and elites), the larger, more powerful urdu media was blaming India and its intelligence agency RAW for the Peshawar bombing.

"Like in the Fall of Dhaka, India is involved in the Peshawar tragedy ..." the Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, a darling of the Pakistani establishment, was quoted as saying: "The killers of innocent children in Peshawar do not have any connection to jihad ..."

Several US and Pakistani experts such as Georgetown University's Christine Fair and Hudson Institute's Hussain Haqqani have called out Islamabad's bluff, including its serial hoodwinking of Washington.

In a rude reminder of Pakistan's long history of sheltering terrorists, Bloomberg New Service this week ran a lengthy story about the country hiding Dawood Ibrahim, the Indian fugitive accused in the Mumbai serial bomb attack in 1993, under the headline "Pakistan's Secret Guest: Why Neighbors Doubt Terrorism Fight."

But all this has made no impression on the Congress or the state department that continues to dole out American tax-payer money to Pakistan without it stamping out ALL its terrorist groups. Many scholars are now warning that the Pakistan is losing an opportunity to squarely tackle terrorism by acting selectively against terrorists from K-P but not the terror groups based in the Punjab that the Pakistani establishment uses for its proxy war against India.

"It is highly unlikely that the quality of leadership has the intellectual or the historical vision to reverse the tide," the Pakistani columnist Raza Rumi wrote in a bleak commentary this week about the establishment's selective fight against terrorism, warning that until fight is more broad-based, the "Gojras, Meena Bazaars and Data Darbars will be bombed and children in Peshawar and elsewhere will remain vulnerable to ideologies of violence."

Neither the US Congress nor the administration appears particularly concerned or cognizant about it, going by the text of S.1847.
Under the BSA between Afghanistan and the US, a few thousand American troops would remain for some time in Afghanistan. So long as these troops remain there, the US-Pakistan dance would continue at the cost of India. We had welcomed the American troops and had even pleaded with the US not to go. In hindsight, this was foolish perhaps.

Whenever Pakistan felt that the US needed its help, Pakistan extracted much more than its pound of flesh. Like in 1978, after the cancellation of the French-sponsored Pu Extraction plant was stalled by the US. Soon, Iran was in turmoil and the pro-Soviet regime took control in Kabul leaving a worried US to run to Pakistan. The result was that the US not only turned a blind eye to 'indigenous' enrichment facility by AQ Khan but even helped him in the process. There are many instances of this behaviour, of course.

Whenever Pakistan sees such US backing, its swagger and bravado increases tremensously and it challenges India by translating that into terrorism or war or both.

Fight against terrorism should start from Punjab: PTI
Imm Knows Who Are The Real Terrorists
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry said Punjab should be the focal point for eliminating terrorists in the light of multi-party conference recommendations and consequent approval by the National Action Committee.Chaudhry said on Friday the Punjab government should make a provincial action plan against terrorists as terrorism had not plagued Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Balochistan only, but was also rooted in many areas of Punjab.Until Punjab focused on improving the law and order situation and stopped providing indirect support to banned organisations, he said, the menace of terrorism could not be eliminated.PTI Punjab Secretary-General Dr Yasmin Rashid said the Peshawar tragedy had brought major stakeholders closer. She stressed that Punjab and other provinces should develop coordination to share sensitive information on terrorist hideouts.

Police ‘reluctant’ to execute warrants for Lal Masjid cleric’s arrest - Dawn
Excerpt
Getting away scot-free?

Tensions between the Lal Masjid management and the government began in early 2001, when Mr Aziz and his brother Abdul Rasheed, who was killed during Operation Silence in 2007, began delivering aggressive sermons, critical of the Musharraf regime.

The first case against them was registered on September 28, 2001. Between 2001 and 2005, police registered 10 cases against the two clerics, including five under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Between January and July 2007, police registered a total of 22 cases against Mr Aziz and his associates for various crimes, including the abduction of Aunty Shamim and her daughter, the abduction of police officials, the seizure of official vehicles, running an FM radio station without proper government, burning CDs, sabotaging and damaging government property and, most seriously, killing a Rangers official.

However, the fact that Mr Aziz is now a free man has a lot to do with the way each case was prosecuted. In a number of cases, witnesses either changed their testimony or never appeared in court. Islamabad police were also accused of poorly investigating the allegations against the cleric, due to which most cases against him were thrown out for lack of evidence. {This is also deliberate}

In the Rangers murder case, government officials who had earlier recorded statements against the cleric backtracked when they appeared in front of the ATC. During investigations, they accused Mr Aziz and others of giving the order to fire at security forces and damaging government property, but later changed their tune.

Similarly, Bhara Kahu shopkeepers, who had originally lodged the complaint when the cleric’s followers burnt CDs of Hollywood and Bollywood films, also changed their statements. In court, the shopkeepers said that they had offered to burn the CDs themselves. A case regarding the kidnapping of four police officials in 2007, however, remained pending and was only initially heard in 2011, but even then police did not produce any witnesses against the accused.

Pakistani officials furious over country's portrayal in Homeland
One of their beefs is that the show — which stars Danes as CIA Agent Carrie Mathison on assignment in Pakistan — trashed a diplomat’s image of the capital as a bucolic oasis.
“Islamabad is a quiet, picturesque city with beautiful mountains and lush greenery,” one source said. “In ‘Homeland,’ it’s portrayed as a grimy hellhole and war zone where shootouts and bombs go off with dead bodies scattered around. Nothing is further from the truth.”
The biggest gripe is that the show depicts Pakistan as undemocratic and allied with terrorists.
“Repeated insinuations that an intelligence agency of Pakistan is complicit in protecting the terrorists at the expense of innocent Pakistani civilians is not only absurd but also an insult to the ultimate sacrifices of the thousands of Pakistani security personnel in the war against terrorism,” a source said.
“Our culture embraces Western society. Pakistan believes in the democratic system of voting in our presidents.”“Pakistanis never embraced the dictators who, in the past, ruled the country because they took over the presidency through violent means.

I also object to Abbottabad being portrayed as a sht1hole. In fact it is a well developed city, with manicured lawns with Pakistan Military Academy, the west point of Pakistan being present there.
