I think this is the first time china is playing great power politics using every tool in its arsenal. Weapons, money, influence. It is to be expected that they'll start in their backyard.

This might be a good news for India. If Pakistan gets on the path of development and decided to abandon its national security schizophrenia it can only be good for the region.

Anybody noticed the Jammu and Kashmir map in that corridor.

The entire POK is disputed and India is claiming that land. No country would risk their strategic corridor in land region which is disputed and the people are up against the local military govt.

India has every right to claim that region and any strategic material in that region which is against India can be used as a threat against India. India can strike at anything which can create threat to India.

What fuel are they using ? Gas ? That could explain the pipeline Iran/Pakistan business. But seriously, can they afford Gas based power at all ? That will be of the order of Rs 9 INR per (is that something like 14PKR ?) . Once those investments happen on the ground, the Iranians will have them by the testimonials and can demand whatever they want (approaching LNG rates for e.g.) , and there will be no choice to pay. No Abdul Lungi can afford it. The Chinese are looking at another white elephant / write offs.

Did anyone bother reading the 51 "MOUs"?

This is what we have about the Karakorum highway
"MOU on provision of Chinese Governmental concessional Loan for second phase up-gradation of Karakorum Highway (Havelian to Thakot)"

Havelian and Thakot are about 100 km apart and the Chinese are going to give a concessional loan for upgradingthat stretch. On this thread people seem to have constructed the entire highway, put Chinese soldiers on there and are asking if India should be scared or not.

Has anyone checked if that lake across the highway has now been bridged or bypassed yet? It has been 3 years.

They are using coal. Since pakis can't pay for coal, they are giving a coal mine to china as well in thar. Since that coal mine produces high moisture coal, the Chinese are setting up a coal drying plant as well. Not sure if the coal is free or if the Chinese are paying for it.

Pakistan Navy attempts to help Pakistani boat carrying 232 Kilograms of narcotics apprehended by a joint Indian Navy and Coast Guard team to escape arrest.

Attempt to engineer an escape of the Pakistani boat by the Pakistan Navy foiled due to “heavy presence of Indian Navy and Coast Guard warships”.

Given the attempt of the Pakistan navy to engineer an escape of the Pakistani drug smugglers, our Government must do a thorough check to rule out that this was not a Pakistan State sponsored narcotic smuggling ring with intent to foment Mohammadden Terrorism in our country:

I don't know about the current spate of agreements but here is one news from about a few weeks back

http://www.dawn.com/news/1174872/chines ... er-project
Chinese group plans to invest in $2.1bn Pakistan coal-fired power project
The Chinese company will be responsible for construction and operation of the project, which is scheduled to be completed within 32 months and will mainly use coal from Indonesia.
.................
Under the deal, the Chinese government and banks will finance Chinese companies to build $45.6 billion worth of energy and infrastructure projects in Pakistan over the next six years.

The Attabad section of the Karakoram Highway was supposed to be reopened this spring. Now it is pushed back to September.
http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/ar ... ?id=277254
news-story dated April 19, 2015
.... it is estimated that by September this year, the central section of the Karakoram Highway that has been blocked after a massive landslide five years ago will be reopened for traffic and that would halve the travel time from the Raikot Bridge to the Khunjerab Pass to seven hours, said Wen Gang, chairman of the CRBC board of directors.

Ouch! That increases cost and decreases efficiency. The last thing you need in your fuel is moisture , coz a huge amount of the energy goes to turn that moisture into steam (remember the latent heat of steam is a rather large number). So the Chinese are going to mining a laaaaaaaaat of coal to produce that electricity. They better get the coal for free! The coal benefication stuff itself is going to be capital and energy intensive.

Pakistani Taliban claim to have successfully test-fired missile called ‘Omar-1’

ISLAMABAD: Just as Pakistan was celebrating the launch of Chinese investments worth $46 billion in the country, the militant organization Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed to have successfully test fired its first indigenously developed missile named as "Omar-1".

To justify its claim, the TTP, which has presence across the country and currently resisting Pakistani troops in the volatile tribal regions on the border with Afghanistan, has issued a statement and posted a video demonstrating the launch of missile.

In the video, different parts of the missile were assembled before its launch. The TTP said that special feature of "Omar 1" is its design.

"It can easily be assembled and dissembled in accordance to the situation," said Muhammad Khurassani, the TTP spokesman. Khurassani said the effectiveness of the specially designed missile would certainly surprise the targeted enemy. "With the grace of God, you'll soon see our enemies on the run," he said.

The spokesman further said that engineering unit of the TTP has the capability to develop modern lethal weapons. "We are training our fighters to get maximum results from the use of technology, including suicide vests, suicide vehicles, hand grenades, anti-jammer devices and so on.

Harami Terrorist Government Protection for Harami Terrorist

Local court acquits Lakhvi in kidnapping case
ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad on Tuesday acquitted Mumbai attacks mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in a case pertaining to the abduction of an Afghan national. The Islamabad police had booked Lakhvi for the alleged kidnapping of the Afghan national after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had suspended his (Lakhvi’s) detention in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case on December 26, 2014.As per the FIR that the Islamabad police registered on December 29, 2014, Mohammad Daud complained that his brother-in-law Anwar Khan, an Afghan national, was kidnapped by Lakhvi over six years ago.During today's hearing, police lawyer Amir Nadeem Tabish presented his arguments, saying that Lakhvi had been directly nominated in the abduction case. He claimed that the plaintiff and the abducted person's brother were eyewitnesses in the kidnapping incident.Nadeem requested the court to summon Lakhvi and indict him in the kidnapping. However, in its ruling, the court said that the case was filed after a hiatus of six years. It said that the plaintiff in the case did not appear before the court even once and no one was aware of the whereabouts of the kidnapped person. The court subsequently acquitted Lakhvi in the kidnapping case.Earlier in February, the judicial magistrate had dismissed a petition seeking the acquittal of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in a kidnapping case.

I suppose a combination of Chinese largesse and determination and Pakistani desperation may finally make it real.

I was thinking the opposite. Corridor is not BS but power plant story may be BS. See how Gadani power project got shelved. Corridor however will be of great use for China cutting their oil trade route distance significantly. Since power situation is getting worse by the day, it seems like desperate Pakis negotiated investments in power plants for allowing the corridor keeping hopes of abduls alive but Chinese could pull out of these power projects just like they did in case of Gadani citing "changed priorities".

Higher Deeper lyrics
Hey you, what to do
What the world you know comes down on you
You'll feel vile, world hates you
You're loosing your youth (to jihad)
You're loosing your Xi

Hey you, keep it cool
....

With just a little hope
The pain you'll cope
Lay truth to your lies
And life will explode... err..
Fill you up with bliss

Be... higher than mountains
Feel... deeper than seas
Open your eyes and see all the love that you'll feel
Be... higher than mountains
Feel... deeper than seas
May be not all you want
But thats all that you need

Long live higher than mountains and sweeter than honey friendship..

From Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2015/03/30/china-jails-a-muslim-for-six-years-for-refusing-to-shave-his-beard/

and
China's war on terror becomes all-out attack on Islam in Xinjiang

and
China sees jihadist inspiration coming from abroad

>>>A Muslim was jailed for six years in China for refusing to shave off his beard, while his wife was imprisoned for two years for wearing a burqa, as part of a severe crackdown on religious “extremism” in the far-western province of Xinjiang, local media reported.

China blames rising violence in Xinjiang on Muslim fanatics and terrorists, and the government has been trying to force people to abandon conservative forms of Islam. Under an initiative known as Project Beauty, men wearing long beards and women in face-covering veils can be fined, as well as face surveillance and reeducation. Criminal punishments for these offenses were introduced in Xinjiang’s capital, Urumqi, in February.

But the six-year jail sentence, reportedly for “picking quarrels and making trouble,” would represent a particularly severe punishment. According to the Kashgar Special Zone News, the 38-year-old man had grown a beard in 2010 and refused to shave it off despite repeated demands from local officials. It was unclear if he faced other charges: the maximum sentence for the reported charge is normally five years.

The man’s wife was sentenced to two years because she wrote a confession to local authorities. The article quoted her as saying the court had given her “a chance to be reborn” and as vowing to repent for her mistakes when she is released.

This is a serious matter,

The tunnels are mostly done, bichhars abound on skyscrapercity. The bridge has a few spans left to be laid.

The road is a symbol of chinese control over pok. And for shipping cheap crap to bakistan. It will start taking traffic in 2015 from the look of it given that summer is just starting.

edit -- no point in denying it. the chinese will ensure road connectivity to gwadar, karachi. and decent road connectivity at that. transportation begets some progress on its own, so there will be some development due to this in bakistan. there is a talk of another 75 locomotives. that will make 150ish total, and that will keep a skeletal train service going. no ifs/buts about it, the 15 year honeymoon of bakis going headfirst in the drain is over. this doesnt make them smell like roses. but it is more than enough to keep the momin happy. and refocus their energy on outside threats.

You will be invading state of Tamil Nadu, the report lists Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Pakistan. The report is based on Paki's castles in the air.

e.g.

"President of Pakistan Economy Watch Dr Murtaza Mughal has said there are 185 billion tonnes of coal worth USD $25 trillion"

That is nonsense! Most of the Paki coal is low grade lignite which sells for about $20 / ton and production costs is also in the vicinity of $20. Margin of profit will be only a few dollars/ton plus given the mining methods recovery can vary from 50% (underground mines ) to 80% ( surface mines). Profit margin for this entire deposit of 185 billion tons would be a few 100 billions max.

AmbarG ji,

Pakistan never had any problem with undermining Islam in its pursuit to hurt India/Hindus.

Islam is just an excuse (for its survival) and a shield (when it comes to India's response), for Pakistan.

Pakistan's links to fake Indian currency racket has been exposed with the arrest of a Bangladeshi national. The Bangladeshi national identified as Mohammad Sajjad Hossain was arrested at Dhaka airport on April 9 with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 2.5 crore.

Mohammad Sajjad Hossain was arrested when he was on a flight from Doha to Dhaka. The probe by Bangladeshi authority shows he travelled from Karachi to Doha and boarded the flight for Dhaka after a three hour stopover.

Hossain is a frequent visitor to Pakistan and he visited Karachi few days after getting a new passport. The probe also shows that Pakistan High Commission had issued him visa a number of times before this.

The role of Qatar Airways Dhaka station manager in this case is being probed. Qatar Airways Dhaka station manager is a Pakistan national named Mohammed Jamal.

Shook law reporting "Beijing and Islamabad are in the final stages of negotiating the purchase of eight Chinese conventional submarines --- these could be either the Yuan-class Type 039A or Type 041; or the Qing-class Type 032. This $4-5 billion deal was expected to be signed during President Xi’s visit, but was eventually a notable omission."

China expressed its gratefulness to Pakistan for being a friend during its years of isolation, which of course amounted to nothing because what could a ravaged Pakistan have offered. What Xi did not say explicitly was the help extended by Pakistan to consummate the US-China relationship by acting as a pimp and getting paid handsomely by both the parties.

Anyway, now, Xi also expresses gratefulness of China for helping it put down the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang. So much for the ummah brotherhood and the desire to lead the Caliphate.

Xi hails security help in west China; Pakistan pledges more - DT
Xi has linked economic cooperation with security and said on Tuesday the two countries ‘share a common stake in security’.

“Over the years Pakistan has overcome all kinds of difficulties and contributed greatly to the security and stability of China’s western border areas and this is something that we shall never forget,” he told parliament.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan considered Chinese security as important as its own. “We will fight together to eliminate the menace of terrorism. Our joint efforts against terrorism have succeeded so far, but we have to intensify the efforts to achieve our goals,” {So, Nawaz Sharif is offering even more of the same in putting down the Uyghurs} he told parliament.

Nawaz said Pakistan was looking forward to more defence cooperation with China. “Our defence ties are strong and they are poised to become stronger in years to come,” he said.

SSridhar wrote:China expressed its gratefulness to Pakistan for being a friend during its years of isolation, which of course amounted to nothing because what could a ravaged Pakistan have offered.

Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan - 1 Feb 2015

Against all odds: Pakistan seeks $11 million for its fight against AIDS
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday submitted a proposal to the Global Fund, seeking $11 million to continue its fight against HIV/AIDs. At the same time, Pakistan is requesting $8 million from UNAIDS to carry out a national survey to find out the accurate number of people living with the deadly disease.

However it is estimated that in Pakistan 91,000 people are living with HIV/AIDs out of which only 10,000-12,000 are registered. The government is still clueless about the rest of the 80,000 people who are living across the country and are a potential threat to its spread.

How come after receiving US$ 46 Billion, as recommended hy the Chini-Cwap Think Tank RANDI, Cwapistan is still begging for a paltry sum of US$ 19 Million? :rotfl:

It is therefore in our interests to nail the Pakistanis now for supporting the Chinese strong-arm measures in Uyghuristan [Eastern Turkestan] and later when (not if) the Pakistanis knife Xi Jinping, to nail the Pakistanis once again for their double-dealing and betrayal.

I am sure that even now, as Nawaz Sharif poses so obsequiously with Xi Jinping for photos, there is something else going on between the jihadi Islamists on the Pakistani side with the ETIM on the Chinese side. This double-crossing is imprinted in the Pakistani mtDNA and they cannot overcome it.

If this double-crossing can be exposed, just like how we exposed the wire-tranfer of USD 100,000 to Mohammed Atta by the ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Ahmed, that would be a masterpiece.
