$4-trillion CEO club, Michelin-starred chef await PM Modi in NY
Abb Tera Kya Hogga Libetard
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet CEOs of top global companies with collective worth of nearly $4 trillion — twice the size of India’s GDP — in New York on September 24 to discuss ideas to turn the country into an investment hotspot and a manufacturing hub.Lockheed Martin chairman Marillyn A Hewson, Ford Motor president Mark Fields, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, Abbott Laboratories CEO Miles D White, Johnson & Johnson chairman Jorge Mesquita and Starwood Hotels and Resorts CEO Adam M Aron were among the leaders of several Fortune 500 companies who would be at the dinner meeting with Modi in New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, sources said. The push also comes at a time when many global companies are seeking an alternative to China as costs and risks rise in Asia’s biggest economy. On his second visit to the US in as many years, the PM will hard-sell India’s growth potential while looking to widen business ties between the world’s two largest democracies. He will specifically seek out global chief executives and top Wall Street bankers for his signature “Make in India” programme.Ahead of the dinner, Modi would meet a group of financial sector CEOs organised by investment bank JP Morgan. Modi is also likely to meet News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch as part of a media delegation, sources said.Modi’s New York pitch, which will be replicated during a two-day visit to the Silicon Valley, comes exactly a year after he launched the Make in India, vowing to rid India of bureaucratic sloth and make the country more investor friendly. The PM will be in the US from September 23 to 28.Make in India is as much an invitation to domestic and foreign companies as a promise to rectify ills that have kept the country almost at the bottom of World Bank’s ‘ease of doing business’ index. The government wants to boost the share of manufacturing in country’s gross domestic product to 25% from about 15% now.The meeting with the CEOs on September 24 will specifically focus on making India a global hub for manufacturing, innovation and design,” a source, who did not wish to be identified, told HT.

That message is not for Americans, but for Indians within India and beyond. They are desperate to paint his tenure so-far as a failure and they want to create a perception that Modi is facing opposition from his countrymen everywhere.

Excerpt dealing with US India Relations:
Indians have mixed views about other nations. Seven-in-ten have a favorable opinion of the U.S. That assessment is up 15 percentage points from 2014, when 55% saw the U.S. favorably. America is particularly popular among Indians ages 18 to 29 (75%), but two-thirds of Indians ages 50 and older also see the U.S. in a positive light. Indians with at least some college education (83%) are much more likely than those with only a primary school education or less (61%) to have a positive view of the U.S.

Indians’ appreciation of the U.S. reflects admiration for the American economy. Roughly two-thirds (66%) see the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power – up 19 points since 2014, when only 47% expressed such appreciation. And about six-in-ten (63%) say it is more important for India to have strong economic ties with the U.S., compared with just 14% who hold the view that a closer commercial relationship with China would be in India’s best interest. Nevertheless, Indians are divided as to whether the U.S. has already been or will one day be supplanted by China as the world’s leading superpower. (For more on how Indians’ perceptions of both the U.S. and China compare with those in other nations, see this Pew Research Center report.)

On the issue of Pakistan – a long-running and particularly neuralgic problem in India-U.S. relations – more and more Indians see the U.S. government coming down on their side. Indians say American policy favors India rather than Pakistan by a ratio of nearly four-to-one (45% to 12%). An additional 28% believe that Washington’s policy on the subcontinent fairly balances between Delhi and Islamabad. In 2013, 36% thought the U.S. favored India, while 12% said Pakistan.

Excellent article, only confirms what I and others have been saying, the noises these retards make is to garner some attention, and their neurotic wish to be like thier white liberal elites and "feminist" sisters. Of course, as she points out, they dare not take on the US or any western govt, they will then be confined to some dustbin, so bashing Hindus is easy prey to gain some notoriety. She also makes the stunning, most obvious observation, namely, if these retards are so concerned about freedom and all that, how is it that they are so silent on TSP, and US's dalliance with Paki dictators? Anyway, as well know, and best articulated by Rajiv Malhotra, this whole "South Asian" crap is a US govt concoction to box India. In short, they are bunch of "useful idiots" in the arsenal of US white Christian establishment against India.

However, I am curious if anybody has seen her writings where she says she has disagreements with ModiJi and BJP. What are they?

Modi certainly deserves criticism on several counts. I myself have critiqued various acts of commission and omission of the Modi government.

Whatever be their other faults (and the BJP has many), none of the BJP-ruled states - be it Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh - has witnessed communal riots that became the hallmark of Congress regimes.

Reminds of California textbook controversy link
In the phase called “discovery”, where both parties have to make available all documents in their possession demanded by the court, mostly at the request of the other party, some facts on the anti-Hindu lobby came out that ought to have been incriminating. A CAPEEM spokesman reported that a lot of evidence of the close cooperation between the court-appointed “experts” and anti-Hindu groups including Evangelical Churches and terrorist groups came to light.
In USA, it seems legit for evangelicals to interfere in textbooks about Hinduism. A point to note is that such "dispute" people are considered important in USA at all even when NaMo is going to visit silicon valley.

WORLD WAR II AND THE MAHABHARATA.

http://www.desicontrarian.com/world-war ... habharata/

The morals and virtues in the Mahabharata are the same values of the American Frontiersmen. I don’t mean the christian values of people who robbed the Natives of their land in the Americas using the term “Manifest destiny” or “Doctrine of Discovery “. I mean the values of ordinary western frontiersmen who traveled west and tried to make a home for themselves and in how they fought for the underdogs and for righteousness.

IF you want to understand a people, you need to understand their folklore. Folklore celebrate a peoples heroes, their values. IF anyone wants to understand the people of India (Dharmic people)_, it would help to read and understand their folklore of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. And if anyone wants to understand the Americans, It helps to be familiar with their folklore. Louis L'Amour novels are one of the best way to understand the American folklore.

Growing up reading the Amar Chitra Comics (Folkore of Hindu people) and the Louis L’ Amour novels (American folklore), I saw how uncanny the similarity of Hindus morals and values were to the American western frontiersmen values…

Louis L’Amour’s “The Quick and the Dead” – Full movie available on You Tube. See the parallels of the values in this story is to the Mahabharata

This is the story of a Pacifist navigating the world of outlaws and Krishna like benefactor lecturing the pacifist to stand and fight for what is right and in the process helps this pacifist grow into a real man.

Its not black and white as the media as usual is making it out to be. Having personally seen how hard it is to moderate the behavior of a child who is severely autistic, I can imagine just how hard it is on the kid's parents. And before we judge the neighbors as being heartless, one needs to see it from their perspective - if someone's kid bites one's kid and tortures their pet, would they be so calm and understanding? There is really no easy solution here.

Stop Feeding the Crocodile: The Ivy League Syndrome

The technocrats are not burdened by such culturally-determined programming, at least not to the same extent. Their disciplines are based more on empirical data and logic. In other words, it is possible to argue one’s controversial thesis in Chemistry, for instance, by demonstrating laboratory evidence that is verifiable. But it is not as easy to prove a theory of human rights violations without dealing with cultural biases of various kinds. The humanities are inherently more subjective, and hence vulnerable to power plays.

Another difference is that the technocrats tend to be more logical. A typical batch of students entering college in the technocrat fields tends to have higher scores in mathematics (i.e. logical mind set) than their counterparts entering humanities and social sciences. Add to this that India’s technocrats are now super confident, knowing that they are second to none in their fields. They have achieved global success based entirely on merit. Therefore, they see no reason to bow down to Westerners when it comes to interpreting their Hindu heritage. This latter quality is what differentiates me from the Indian scholars of Hinduism Studies: I owned companies where I employed many Americans, and a large number of managers from many nations reported to me. I find that Indians lacking such a background of managing Western professionals with authority are afraid to take them on, because of their deep inferiority complexes.

In other words, our colonized mentality can be isolated largely to our professionals in the humanities and social sciences. We have a clash between Indians in the two camps of humanities and technical fields. The technocrats tend to be patriotic and the humanities/social sciences scholars tend to be Hinduphobic and apologetic. The Indian media, in turn, are largely educated in fields with deep influences from South Asian Studies.

Tavleen Singh in IE:

http://indianexpress.com/article/opinio ... a-strikes/
If Silicon Valley welcomes the Prime Minister when he travels there during his visit to the United States, that begins next week, it will be against the advice of the finest  academics in America. As faculty who ‘engage South Asia’ in their teaching and research, they have warned against the ‘uncritical fanfare’ that Narendra Modi’s imminent visit has generated. In ominous tones they warn that Modi’s Digital India initiative is almost certainly going to be used by the Prime Minister for spying on his critics. And that Silicon Valley’s technology entrepreneurs could be violating their own codes of corporate responsibility by doing business with a government that has demonstrated its ‘disregard for human rights and civil liberties, as well as the autonomy of educational and cultural institutions’.

What intrigued me when I read the statement that these self-appointed sentinels issued is how, in the lofty realms of American academia, they know so much more about what is happening in India than we do. Where are these abuses of human rights? Where have civil liberties been curtailed? Where are the ‘well-publicised’ episodes of censorship? The violations of religious freedom? The ‘steady impingement’ on the independence of the judiciary? The picture of India that these worthy intellectuals paint is of a country that is not very different to North Korea or the ISIS caliphate, and I find this deeply offensive.

As someone who makes a living out of political commentary, I am appalled by the lack of faith these giants of American academia exhibit in India’s institutions of democracy. Do they seriously believe that it has been possible for Narendra Modi to diminish all of them in one year? And to have done this so sneakily that nobody has noticed? Nobody except a handful of NGOs whose foreign funding is being questioned by the government.

If I were advising the Prime Minister, I would tell him to let them be, because why give them the chance to spew venom against India on our ‘censored’ news channels? But I have no hesitation in saying that most NGOs working in India do very little that is constructive or good. Far too many of our most revered NGO stars make fortunes out of spreading disinformation and poison in our most vulnerable communities. They travel first class to the capitals of the world and from the luxury of five-star hotels hold forth on India’s poverty and environmental degradation at conferences of rich people. Personally this makes me sick.

It is not just the treatment of NGOs that has made Modi into an undesirable alien in the eyes of American academia, it is also his ‘interference’ in Indian universities and academic institutions. Clearly from their ivory tower they have not noticed that this kind of interference has existed since India became an independent nation. The only change that has happened in the past year is that a small, mostly ineffectual attempt has been made to loosen the stranglehold that Leftist academics have had over these institutions. Unfortunately, the Modi government has made some stupid mistakes in making these changes and the most obvious example comes from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. Even the Prime Minister’s staunchest supporters admit that to put a B-grade actor in charge of an institution like this is a bad idea. This should not distract us from the vital need to bring real changes in the way our educational and cultural institutions have been run. If the Culture Minister spent less time questioning the patriotism of Muslims and more on doing his job, he may discover how much work needs to be done. And if one day the Prime Minister recognises the importance of bringing back a full-time Education Minister, we might finally get an education policy that gives Indian schoolchildren a syllabus that gives them some sense of what being Indian means.

The education system we inherited from the British continues to produce ‘a nation of clerks’. If you want proof that neo-literate Indians are losing their own languages without really learning English, look at bookshops in our major towns and cities. They sell mostly books in English, and if Indian writers want to gain a measure of celebrity from writing, they have to write in English. This is disgraceful. And if the Modi government can be faulted, it is for not having done enough already to make educational and cultural institutions more Indian and more useful. As they are today, they serve mostly to provide cushy jobs for retired bureaucrats, who often hang on to their luxurious houses in Lutyens Delhi this way. So there is much to be done to rectify damage done over decades and the Modi government has so far not taken one small step towards parivartan. But perhaps these things are not evident from the exalted realms of American academia.
Agree almost fully with all that she wrote.

US, India Strategic Dialogue to Set Stage for PM Narendra Modi's Visit
Washington: India and the US begin their first strategic and commercial dialogue in Washington from tomorrow to set the stage for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third summit meeting with President Barack Obama within a year a week later. The two leaders had decided to expand the existing Strategic Dialogue to the Strategic and Commercial Dialogue during President Barack Obama's January visit to India to reflect the growing significance of the US-India economic relationship. Mr Modi himself lands in New York on Wednesday a day after Indian and US teams led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Secretary of State John Kerry and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker wrap up the dialogue. He will be meeting Mr Obama the following Monday in New York after wooing investors in New York and a weekend trip to the Silicon Valley focusing on three key themes of entrepreneurship and innovation, digital economy and renewable energy. Between the US-India dialogue and the Modi summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping will be visiting the White House on September 24 -25. This is "a sequence that will not be lost on Chinese policy makers," wrote Raymond E. Vickery, Jr. a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Centre in an article in "Diplomat". "The Obama administration is pulling out all the stops," he suggested, to make the US engagement with India "a success and a key demonstration that the administration's 'rebalance to Asia' is more than just rhetoric." As the US commerce department noted since 2010, the US-India Strategic Dialogue has been the primary forum to advance shared objectives in regional security, economic cooperation, defence trade and climate challenges. "With a new commercial track, the US and India will focus additional attention on shared priorities of generating economic growth, creating jobs, improving the investment climate, and strengthening the middle class in both countries," it said. Later on Monday evening, US Vice President Joe Biden, Mr Kerry and Mrs Sushma Swaraj will headline a conclave of corporate America. To increase the role of the private sector, the Commerce Department will host the US-India CEO Forum on September 21, in close proximity to the Strategic and Commercial Dialogue. The CEO Forum is the primary mechanism for engaging the US and Indian private sectors and leveraging business leaders' recommendations to shape policy making discussions. As part of the CEO Forum, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host an event featuring remarks from Ms Pritzker and Ms Sitharaman, and a discussion between US and Indian CEOs on efforts to deepen bilateral economic engagement. Other engagements on the sidelines of the strategic and commercial dialogue include official level India-US Health Dialogue and a meeting of India-US Joint Working Group on Climate Change.

Yes he comes from Ohio.

So first video is low light high contrast and the second under glaring lights, low contrast, and lot of makeup? His skin color looks distinctly different from the first (I am Indian - quite well tanned) to the second (I am Ohioan which has a "Vitamin D deficiency" look or it could be Anemia though I rule it out as it is a turd world affliction). Could be photoshpping, just sayin' :-o

There is some news.. for example..
Our Goal is to Be India's Best Friend', Says US Vice President Joe Biden

US assures full support to PM Modi’s ambitious economic reforms: Vice-President Biden

CEOs Forum to kick off US-India strategic, commercial dialogue

Sushma Swaraj urges US industry to invest in India for win-win outcome

Sushma Swaraj: India-US joint effort will make ‘defining partnership of 21st Century’

Also.. may not get into news anytime soon but...

I am waiting for India/US to work on things like Google Glasses (which can measure blood glucose level and help millions effected by diabetes..

Or Theranos/Elizabeth Homes to announce opening its blood testing centers in India..

Or.. Tesla/IITK joint development of good batteries..(to store solar power)..

Khan Academy providing its expertise so I can coach math to wider audience in Rajasthan..

All by 2019 or before..! :)

AmberG: All are Indian sources so they don't count. As Ulan Batori says it is zero coverage (in US media, i.e.).
Google glasses for Blood Glucose levels? Really? cheaper mass manufactured single use chemical measuring strips can be made for far fewer dollars (or INR) than the failed google glasses. Sorry no cigar saar.

I trust those sources too. But your average massa citizen? Heck, would President trust those sources? I doubt it. Even very educated and liberal americans rtend to trust BBC more than their own media leave alone a few totally unheard of "third world" (old nomenclature of the UN which has been super-ceded by the new terminology of developing and developed world) newspapers. Those news papers would have an order of magnitude more paid subscriptions but then the "turd" stigma sticks, no?

er...that's not the Google Glass AmberG is referring to. Anyhow those glucose measuring contact lens are not Google Glass.
