Nothing I suppose. This has all the hallmarks of escalating into a Russia vs Nato mess and we know how that will end.

I know what India would do though. Give a "dossier" on the incident if such a thing happens.

you can expect these distractions like lockons, shootdowns, crimea electricity, ukraine stopping food trade to crimea as the pain quotient of the terrorists in syria grow more.

if the turkmen militias execute or torture the pilots they can expect heavy retribution though.

If there was an excuse needed to bring out the big boys this is it. One on Raqqa, one on Jabal Turkmen, one on Hama.
And one reserved for Erdogan's palace, to be hit early morning at 2 AM.

there has to be some difference between Afghanistan & Syria. This has to be it.
Erdogan is trying to be Euro Zia.
& ISIS + Nusra is his Taliban.

But again I would prefer Russia wait it out a bit, before going full tilt at Erdogan.

Al masdar news:
ISIS is Trapped in Palmyra as the Syrian Army Closes-in on the city 0
BY LEITH FADEL ON NOVEMBER 24, 2015 FEATURED

Over the last 72 hours, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has proven to be ill-prepared for the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) latest offensive at the ancient city of Palmyra in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

This news was confirmed when an ISIS contingent frantically retreated from the Al-Qadri Farms in western Palmyra after a brief firefight with the Syrian Arab Army’s 550th Regiment and the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division.

On Tuesday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade – in coordination with the 550th Regiment, the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Homs, Hezbollah, and Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary) – struck ISIS’ defensive positions at Al-Hayyal in southern Palmyra, killing several enemy combatants from the aforementioned terrorist group before advancing towards the southern district of this ancient city.

In addition to their advance at Al-Hayyal, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies captured more territory along the Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway that leads to Palmyra’s western perimeter; this has paved the way for them to push towards the Qatari Royal Family’s villa that is now used by ISIS as training base for their new recruits.

With their recent success at the southern and western flanks of Palmyra, the Syrian Armed Forces are now in position to attack this ancient desert city from three different sides, while the Russian Air Force strikes the Palmyra Military Airport and the road leading to the east district.

NATO may not back Turkey if this is true. They are genocidal but not suicidal

Code: Select all

Russian news already confirmed. Turkey shot it down and they actually confirmed that as well, jet was shot inside Syria attacking Turkmen AlQaeda, which yesterday was named a Terrorist group and fair game to be attacked and eliminated by UN, Turkey is in huge problem, not only with an angry Russia but without NATO to back them up, expect HUGE retaliations from Russia. Video attached.

Escalating quite quickly. RuAF fighters over looking the crash site, exachanging fires with terrorists that are trying to grab the pilot.
Russia said it was hit in Syrian airspace and can prove it, Turkey is already consulting US and NATO, for help ? Turkish PM gave the order.

This is exactly the kind of event that changes things around, Turkey is now in a very big mess, caught illegally shotting down a jet in the syria airspace that was attacking Al Qaeda that was recently green lighted by UNSC to be exterminated. Huge implications for the Syrian conflict, maybe we are seeing the end of this conflict in a near future if Turkey is left alone or WWIII approaching with warmonger NATO wants a shirtfight with Russia.

it would be advisable for turkoman militias to skip back across the border, because turkey will not be able to protect them on the ground if the rus seriously decides to randomly just give a soviet style pounding.

Turk-SHIT has truly hit the fan! The enraged Sultan of the neo-Ottomans is so enraged at his lucrative ISIS oil partnership handled by his son going up in smoke that he has bitten back. One can expect the inevitable retribution from Putin and Russia. But Putin is not a hot-head and will weigh his options very carefully before donning armour against the Sultan. For this to end up in a spat with NATO is exactly what the US would like, diverting attention from the main issue. This crisis also lets ISIS off the hook temporarily after Paris, again deliberately dome by the Turks to divert attention.

However, the fact that the pilot manded in Syrian territory probably bears out the Russians where they say that their aircraft was not in Turkish airspace. We will now see another propaganda war in whicht eh Turks will try and show "data",like MH-17,to prove their point. In the case of China and the alleged US overflight of its airspace,it forced down the US P-3 instead of shooting it down. This is what the Turks should've done instead. .Perhaps the Turks got the green signal from Washington,to up the ante and force Putin to act like a "warmonger",but this is dangerous strategy and may backfire spectacularly.

Turkey seems to be acting like weak kid with backing of big boys. What it has forgotten is these big boys are quick to dump. Putin will not the forget this and forgive them for this act. Sooner or later Erdogan will have to pay for this downed fighter with full interest. Response could be just diplomatic, true payback will come later.

Lalmohan wrote:something strikes me about these videos on liveleak - there is an awful lot of random shooting and milling around. where are the 'normal' infantry manoeuvres and procedures? this is all teenage boy video game and mijjile maalish nonsense

wonder why those two fat boys were shot out of hand? would have thought they would have been put on camera to sing for their supper?

Lalmullah, I have been watching those videos and they are of different kinds:

1) Proper media journalist videos (They will follow the assault team or defence line, keep safe (relatively speaking) and report for TV audiences. Vice, RT, CNN or local Levant channels. Each only covers the side it favours except Vice which has videos for most sides if not all)

2) Drone footage : Two sub types (High Altitude - Thermal); Low Altitude -Colour

3) Assault Team member coverage:
i) Go Pro - Mostly genuine action, quite often from the frontline
ii) Embeded Cameraman: a) With Hezbollah - follows with assault team, less relative safety but not on firing line mostly. Videos published / aired only if successful assault. Musical scores have instruments playing. Some videos directed at creating / celebrating heroes. Assault groups are trained and appear using military tactics, etc.
b) SAA: Like Hezbollah. Also publish a lot of captured videos from Rebels. Some videos have conflicting claim with Hezbollah over same attack. Conflicts in claims also with Iraqi Shia videos.
c) Iraqi Shia videos: Embedded fighters often on the front line. The fatso video was one sided firing, probably terrorists were captured and forced to run, the video was recorded showing a hunt. The guns with the terrorists were probably empty as they don't fire back even when attacked. The sniper capture video also appears staged as the cameraman is already in position recording while the capture team comes from behind. There are some Hezbollah sniper capture videos which appear genuine.
d) Kurdish Videos (YPG / Peshmerga etc): Mostly like Hezbollah or SAA videos, fair amount of training but non Peshmerga forces do not show uniform training levels or cohesiveness.
d) Rebel videos: On the frontline, almost all fighting group has an embedded cameraman. Always has a place and group stamp in audio, AoAs are the common speak. Occasionally carry a local or international media group. Complete videos show preparation, launch and assault and also identifies the enemy against which the assault is taking place. This is probably a feedback mechanism to funding agency other than propaganda.
e) Al Nusra / Chechan videos: Quite often focus on gear, ammunition and inter / intra group communication during assault. Easier to make out the group leader. Rest like the rebel videos
f) ISIS videos: Always the sick music and always either insane risks shown while fighting or some suicide attack or brutality.

Shia militia groups and Sunni militia groups on either side display poor training, appear to be neighbourhood gangs, massed together, with little or even nil training. Depend on numbers to win over. Groups may have ex military to guide operation. I expect a lot of fratricide in such action. There are ample videos showing it. Poor equipment discipline / maintenance / dust etc leading to high equipment failure and blowups causing significant own casualties. Videos exist showing this.

The untrained forces and the Terrorists of Al Nusra and ISIS are very likely to take insane risks to both attack and pull back their injured. Chechans (or al Shishanis) use the most developed combat tactics and are the most cohesive units in this war. Even their gear and discipline in equipment handling is way above the rest.

between both sides close to 100 named militias/"divisons"/bands are in the fight over there. quite incredible. its almost like a crowdfunded swarm of startups looking to score series-N funding by showing something for the 1..N-1 rounds of funding.

Turkey couldn't have done what it just did without Khan's backing. So Russia is playing chess and the Murican's are well, as they always have played, are playing poker. The history of the Cold War is replete with examples of how the poker players have won every match with the chess players even when the chess player was the better player.

There was no need to shoot down considering Russia was not going after turkish target but ISIS and the world knows it by now and fast jet do tend to cross for few seconds if its close to border.

However if the pilots are alive then its fine a protocol could be in place , now the pilot is dead atleast 1 of them then this will be serious. Russian wont take this lightly.

I dont think they would take hasty decisions here , even for the A320 bomb incident when West confirmed it was a bomb they took time to reevaluate and come to conclusion.

In any case shooting a fighter with pilot dead wont go well for any one in the game and knowing well that they are bombing ISIS for almost 2 months now.

I dont think any bomb so far has even fallen into Turkish territory even by Mistake so far.

Video clip allegedly shows Russian pilot's body and celebrating Islamists. If this was an anti-Assad "rebel" group supported by the US,Turkey, etc.,then there will be no mercy for them. The retreating ISIS Palmyra crisis and bombing of its fuel tankers seems to have enraged the Sultan,ISIS' partner in perfidy.

https://www.rt.com/news/323237-video-de ... ian-pilot/
Video allegedly shows dead Russian pilot surrounded by armed rebels in Syria (GRAPHIC)
Published time: 24 Nov, 2015 11:14

The video posted online shows armed men around an alleged Russian pilot who seems to be unconscious and immobile. His face is bruised and bloodied. The men seem to be happy and are praising Allah, with some regretting that they hadn’t burned him on the spot.

"A Russian pilot," a voice is heard saying as a group of men gather around him. "God is great," a voice says.
They spoke Arabic but used a Latakia dialect.

According to Reuters, the video was sent by a rebel group operating in the northwestern area of Syria, where groups including the Free Syrian Army are active but Islamic State has no known presence.

^^^ So if this goes south, where do we stand? Levant is escalating fast. Where does China stand on this? How many Aircraft Carriers in and around the Mediterranean?

NATO and allies have a lot of bases around Syria. Plus their naval assets are handy. Russians have Iranian support and couple of bases in Syria. Presently, if it is a standoff between Russia and NATO, NATO forces are better placed.

Putin will have to outflank Turkey strategically. This shoot down is warning to Putin that he should not try to play with big boys. My advice:-

1. Shoot SRBM in a major Turkish economic or tourist target

2. Manpads or Arms to Kurds resisting Turks

3. Take out a few of Qatar or Saudi Oil Wells and blame it on Iraqi Shia Militia

This shoot down is a lesson to India also that conventional war will continue to take place even under Nuclear Umbrella. The military should come out of its import obsession and concentrate on developing indigenous conventional capacity also.

the turks have published tracks of the aircraft involved. this is highly dubious. the ru aircraft goes across turkish airspace for only a few km's. if warnings were given then they were given when the aircraft was in syria. the missile was fired from inside turkey and the plane was probably hit inside syria

turks are hoping that the escalation to nato will force putin's hand and he'll back off from the tankers; but for sure they have just demonstrated how green they really are

There are umpteen ways of skinning the Sultan. Both overt and covert need to be ued.Overt to show that Russia will not take the murder of its pilot lightly and covert to really hit the Sultan in his ghoulies. Expect more terror bombings in Istanbul, etc.,as anti-Erdogan forces get into action and all Turkish interest in the region are now fair game. As said before, this is a deliberate act to shift the attention from a global military campaign against ISIS to an anti-Russian one. After Paris, there has to be a major distraction to prevent ISIS from being exterminated. Since Russia is the major mil power hammering ISIS,the Turks are acting as "benamis" on their behalf. But in reality ,ISIS are the benamis for the Saudis,Turks,Gulfies, etc.

The Islamic terrorists on the ground keep screaming "A-O-A" in delight at the the dead body of the pilot.

pilots do suffer some injuries during ejection, but clearly this man was clubbed to death
seems like a bullet injury to temple also.
