53 dead is a fair sized demonstration of the IED Mubarak variant of the IEDology of Pakistan. Even by the violent standards of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, targetting a childrens park is pretty egregious.

Its Lahore time now - At least 50 dead as a suicide bomber self exploded :

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-pakistan-blast-idUSKCN0WT0HR

A suicide bomber killed at least 38 people outside a public park in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Sunday, rescue officials and police said, striking at the heart of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's political heartland of Punjab.

The blast occurred in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, just outside the exit gate and a few feet (meters) away from children's swings.

"At least 38 people were killed and more than 100 are injured," Mustansar Feroz, superintendent of police for the area told Reuters. "Most of the dead and injured are women and children."

Rescue officials said more than 30 dead bodies had been taken to hospitals around the city.

(This story has been refiled to fix headline typo to make clear only one suicide bomber)

According to Twitter, there are large scale protests against the Qadri hanging going on right now in Isloo. Army has been called in for protection of important buildings.

Don't know the accuracy of the information.

Around 10,000 people protesting the execution of Mumtaz Qadri – a former Punjab police commando hanged last month for assassinating Punjab governor Salman Taseer – breached Islamabad's Red Zone Sunday evening.

The government has called in the army to control the law and order situation.

The park apparently attracts Christians, especially on easter.

There was a Qadri protest planned all over Al-Bakistan. Badmash's brother did tactical brilliance by declaring friday to be a holiday. Killing three birds with one stone. Appearing "secular" for giving good friday off. Hint hint mourning Qadri on the 40th day after he got his 72 (40th day seems to be important for some reason). And making sure people are not on the streets. The yahoos took advantage of this, and blew up a park with Christian kids playing on easter.

Now Badmash's brother has done a tactical brilliance. Has announced 3 days of mourning. For the people killed and also (hint hint for Qadri). On top of that the Yahoos managed to get into Isloo red zone. The place with parliament and court and everything. Now, nobody has the testimonials to ask the police to thrash them and throw them out, so they called the army.

Now it is left to be seen if the Army will vacate the parliament building in isloo

Facebook "Safety Check" Snafu Re: Lahore Bombing
Facebook Apologizes for Sending Safety Checks Across the World After Pakistan Bombing
In the wake of a suicide bombing in Lahore, Pakistan, that killed at least 50 people, many of them women and children, Facebook pounced at the opportunity to flex its “Safety Check” tool. Unfortunately, something went wrong in the execution, and people all around the world received the notification.
The message reads: “Are you OK? It looks like you’re in the area affected by [the explosion]. Let friends know that you’re safe.” Hundreds of people tweeted about getting the notifications.
In an email to Gawker, a spokesperson for Facebook acknowledged that the check had been improperly deployed, but did not answer questions about whether the mistake was due to a technical glitch.

Suicide blast kills at least 69 in Lahore park
LAHORE / ISLAMABAD: At least 69 people were killed and more than 300 injured when a suicide bomb ripped through the parking space of a crowded park in Lahore where Christians were celebrating Easter Sunday, officials said.
A Pakistan Taliban splinter group claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide attack.
“We claim responsibility for the attack on Christians as they were celebrating Easter,” a spokesperson said.

DAWN Link
The attack was claimed by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan Jamaatul Ahrar.

A little bit of history.

The Ahrar Party, a Punjab-based militant Islamist Party, opposed Partition because it felt that the whole of India was Muslim land anyway and Partition upset that status. This was along the lines by which Abu ala al Mawdudi opposed Partition as well initially. A faction of TTP of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi followers (the Punjabi Taliban) was known as Ahrar-ul-Hind (interesting name revealing their ultimate intention) and this split from TTP after Fazlullah was elevated as TTP Chief following Hakeemullah Mehsud's death in c. 2013.

Soon, another, but more powerful group split from TTP. That was the Mohmand Chapter of TTP led by Omar Khalid Khurasani (look at the nom-de-guerre he chose. 'Khorasan' has a very important role in the Koran). He floated Junud-e-Khorasan (Soldiers of Khorasan).

In c. 2014, the two factions Ahrar-ul-Hind and Junud-e-Khorasan, merged to form Jama'at-ut-Ahrar and called themselves as TTP-JA. They conducted an operation on two Quetta airbases, Samungali and Khalid between the nights of August 14 and 15, 2014. They also attacked Christians in Lahore in 2015.

Their loyalty is not clear. They claimed to have pledged loyalty to Mullah Omar when they split (at that time Omar's death was unknown) but other reports also spoke about pledging loyalty to IS. May be, they came to know about Omar's death and decided to switch sides.

the whining continues unabated

http://www.dawn.com/news/1248306/pakistani-seafarers

Pakistani seafarers

WORLDWIDE persecution of Pakistani seafarer continues unabated. The apathy and indifference of the government towards this community is fast making them extinct since most foreign shipowners are unwilling to hire them.

This issue was highlighted earlier also, but no worthwhile action has so far been taken, as a result of which many maritime nations, some having cordial ties with Pakistan, have not only maintained the ‘restricted nationality’ status of Pakistani seafarers, but have so intensified regulations that many foreign shipowners, who regularly provide employment, are now having second thoughts.

Dwindling fortunes and the continued downward slide of national flag-carrier PNSC does not help much since the only other avenue for a qualified Pakistani seaman is to approach foreign-flagged shipping companies.

Some difficulties being experienced are as follows:

China is denying visas to all Pakistani seafarers who wish to sign off their vessels and proceed back home to meet their near and dear ones from any ports at the Yangtze river such as the port of Zhangjiagang. If his vessel is proceeding to Brazil, that country not only doesn’t allow visas’ but bars them from setting their foot on the shore!

This would mean that either the vessel would have to be diverted to some convenient port, entailing expenditure to the foreign shipowner, or the seafarer remains trapped on board for an unlimited time.

No European Union country allows a Pakistani seafarer to transit any of their airports en route to any destination without holding a valid Schengen visa

Obviously, with such issues no foreign shipowner would be willing to cater for Pakistani seafarers, and they would be well within their rights to look elsewhere.

It’s time our government took up this matter at all forums available or else the bread and butter of hundreds of seafarers and their families would be at stake.

Yes, it was clearly an attack on Christians and the timing & venue were carefully chosen. What I said in my earlier post was that TTP-JA had already made one such attack, again in Lahore itself, last year. Christians (like Jews & Hindus/Sikhs) are fair game in Pakistan and Muslim countries. The Christians are never forcibly converted in Pakistan unlike Hindus, but are killed. Hindus/Sikhs may be target killed in Pakistan but Christians are always mass-killed there. My 2cents observation.

Jamaat ul Ahrar has claimed the attack and its intended victims:

https://www.rt.com/news/337357-blast-public-park-lahore/

Taliban faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s suicide blast outside a public park in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore that killed at least 65 people and injured more than 280. Most of the injured are women and children.
“The targets were Christians,” Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for the faction, said, threatening that more attacks in the region would follow.

“We want to send this message to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that we have entered Lahore. He can do what he wants but he won’t be able to stop us. Our suicide bombers will continue these attacks.”

Salman Rafique, a health adviser for Punjab’s provincial government, put the death toll at over 60 people.

“There are more than 280 injured people,” Rafique said. “Many are now being treated, and we fear that the death toll may climb considerably.”

Police say the blast had been carried out by a suicide bomber.

“Most of the dead and injured are women and children,” Mustansar Feroz, superintendent of police for the area told Reuters.

The explosion happened outside Gulshan Iqbal Park, near the park’s parking lot, just outside the exit gate and a few meters away from children's swings.

The park was crowded because Christians are celebrating Easter holiday and many families were leaving the park when the blast occurred, according to senior police officer Haider Ashraf. He also said the death toll could still rise as many of the wounded were in critical condition.

Police said it was not clear whether the attack had deliberately targeted mainly Muslim Pakistan's small Christian minority.

Jam Sajjad Hussain, spokesman for Recuse 112, told Reuters most of the victims are women and children.

DawnNews reports there was little or no security present in the park area and around it.

An eyewitness, talking to DawnNews, said: “The park is huge and has many entrance gates. There was almost no security personnel present there.”

An emergency has been declared at all state hospitals in the city. Authorities are asking for blood donations because supplies are low.

Following the attack, the local government also ordered all public parks to be closed and announced three days of mourning in the province. The main shopping areas have also been shut down and many of the city's main roads are now deserted.

Apparently 2000 supporters of bad Qadri (the qadri who killed salman taseer. Not to be confused with the good Qadri, who's the chap who wanted military rule) are now having a sit in outside the Parliament.

Their demands include declaring Qadri as a martyr, opening a library in his name, declaring his jail cell as national monument, hanging Asia Bibi (a Christian lady falsely accused of blasphemy) and an assurance that blasphemy law will not be weakened.

Meanwhile paki twitterati, completely ignoring Taliban statement that they targeted Christians are claiming that terrorism has no nationality or religion and that Muslims are it's biggest victims.

#LahoreBlast must not be construed as Pakistani Muslims killing the Christians. It was an attack by militias that kill people of all faiths

Pak's descent into hell. Unfortunately, there are so many Islamist extremists of varying shades, hues and ideologies in Pak,that the situation is beyond rescue. What comes to mind is the infamous statement by a US officer in the Vietnam War: We had to destroy the village to save it"

Pak has to be destroyed. It's foundation laid by one Jinnah was foul, unstable in design and the sinking, listing edifice one sees today laid upon that unholy foundation cracks and crumbles by the day. India must batten hatches and let the Pakis destroy their own "state".It is inevitable.Having devoured the minorities for decades, with increasing attacks and scale of carnage, facing determined resistance from neighbours like India and Afghanistan and unable to defeat them on the battlefield, the rabid Islamic entities have started devouring their own kind. The issue now is what must be done with Pak's huge nuclear stockpile when Pak eventually collapses. If not for US support,Pak would've collapsed a long time ago.

Pakistani authorities were on Monday searching for fighters from a Taliban militant faction that claimed responsibility for the Easter suicide bombing of a public park in Lahore that killed at least 72 people.

Many of the injured were said to be in a critical condition.
Pakistan church bomb: Christians mourn 85 killed in Peshawar suicide attack

The bomber blew himself up near an entrance to Gulshan-e- Iqbal Park, close to a children’s play area on Sunday evening. The sound of the explosion was heard several kilometres away and eyewitnesses said there were big crowds in the area because of the Easter holiday.

“We must bring the killers of our innocent brothers, sisters and children to justice and will never allow these savage inhumans to over-run our life and liberty,” military spokesman Asim Bajwa said in a post on Twitter.

A faction of the Pakistani Taliban, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, claimed responsibility for the explosion, saying it was targeted at Christians celebrating Easter. A spokesman for the group, Ehsanullah Ehsan, told the Guardian: “We have carried out this attack to target the Christians who were celebrating Easter. Also this is a message to the Pakistani prime minister that we have arrived in Punjab [the ruling party’s home province].” However the Punjab government denied the claim that the bombing was aimed exclusively at Christians, as those in the park were from all backgrounds.

“I saw body parts everywhere, especially those of young children. It was quite haunting, as many of the children’s rides were still operating, while there were dead bodies lying all around them,” said Mohammad Ali, a student who lives nearby and went to the park after hearing the blast.

Kiran Tanveer, another local resident, said: “There was a deafening noise. I immediately thought it must be a blast. I went outside to see. I saw injured people being taken and everyone running in all directions. It was a complete chaos.”

Shortly after the explosion, the area was cordoned off by law-enforcement agencies as the army and ambulances also reached the scene.

Local police said they had found one leg and the head of the suicide bomber. A police spokesman said: “He was around 23 to 25 years old. Initial reports suggest at least 20kg of explosives were used and the suicide jacket contained nuts and bolts,” a police official told local media.

An emergency was declared in the city’s hospitals and an appeal for blood donations made. Many family members were still looking for their loved ones late into the night.

Senior police official Haider Ashraf put the toll at 72 on Monday, saying at least eight children were among the dead.

Pakistan’s prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, cancelled a planned trip to the UK on Monday, where he was scheduled to stop over before heading for the US. A three-day mourning period was announced in Punjab province.

The chief of Pakistan’s army, General Raheel Sharif, who is also in charge of the country’s security policy, chaired a high-level meeting late on Sunday night, which was attended by the heads of the military and intelligence services.

Many Christians have accused the government of not doing enough to protect them, saying politicians are quick to offer condolences after an attack but slow to take any real steps to improve security.

The US National Security Council spokesman, Ned Price, said: “The United States condemns in the strongest terms today’s appalling terrorist attack in Lahore, Pakistan. This cowardly act in what has long been a scenic and placid park has killed dozens of innocent civilians and left scores injured.”

While Lahore was reeling from the attack, Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, witnessed riots erupting outside the parliament house. Supporters of Mumtaz Qadri, who was hanged last month for the murder of Punjab’s governor Salman Taseer in 2011, are staging a sit-in outside the parliament and have given the Pakistani government a list of demands, the foremost of which is the immediate execution of Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who is on death row charged with blasphemy.

Qadri, Taseer’s bodyguard, shot him over the governor’s call to reform the blasphemy law and his support for Aasia Bibi.
