Fascinating developments of late. Are the Russians/Syrians really ok with the idea of not retaking Idlib and Daraa? I would think that occupying and neutralizing both provinces completely would be a bare minimum acceptable outcome to both Damascus and Mosvow.

If they ran away from palmyra they could only have moved to arak and sukhanah

Both russi and amriki have a vested interest in killing them there. Russi to pave way forward to deir azzor. Amriki to ensure this lot does not reach raqqa and cause more problems

Time for the backfires and b52s now or never with 1000s of jihadis on a narrow road heading east....

a convoy of isis coming from syria to reinforce tal afar was intercepted and destroyed by pmu. no need to post the footage, the usual burnt vehicles and a neat line of daesh corpses in a trench.
iraqi helis and planes are having a field day in the open desert smashing the isolated convoys of isis trying to escape the trap.

chlorine filled mortars were fired across the river from west to east mosul.

a more broad attack into west mosul is imminent as the iraqis curve up through the western outskirts. an area of planned govt buildings is next.

the old city 'sukkari' next to the river is the hardest target and is left for last.

iraqis look well manned, well armed and motivated to wipe out every last roach in the woodwork. they are going lane and by lane into west mosul with armour and air support. PMU is cleaning up the outlying villages and bomb factories.

a sinkhole in the desert has been found with the remains of 1000s of people daesh executed.

so the turkish attacks on the SDF may be a planned drama between ankara-D.C. to push more and more US troops and bases in eastern syria to establish the "safe zone". a fig leaf for permanent partition and carving up of the country...

Syrians and russi are again in complacent mode after taking palmyra without much fighting...instead of pressing isis close wherever they are on escape routes.

Palmyra is a stupid pawn in the desert with no strategic value if 1000s of daeshis can return to a dormant front later. Screw the roman ruins...dynamite the rest of it if you want and dont waste a month on demining it and music concerts

One likely scenario in the coming months and yrs.complex international chess board.Open fighting may erupt between deep state in USA and putin,s Russia.I think many of the russian diplomates deaths in recent months are hits by CIA(israeli intelligence may be involved indirectly)wanting to provoke reaction from Putin. They may get their wish if Trump is unable to reign in the deep state. I expect war in Syria to heat up sooner rather than later. Expect attacks in deir azzor and most of all near golan heights. Ukraine may heat up again. In the worst case scenario another middle east war with Russia/Iran/may be china on one side and the usual suspects on the other. I do not know which way Turkey will go.If a new war in the middle east happens I fully expect Israel will be involved in a major way whether it likes it or not. This war will not turn out well for Israel.

Syrian border guards phrase sound like ndf and palestinianish units like galilee brigade, ssnp, qalamoun shield, liwa al quds, sarkari kurds of aleppo...

Tiger is now a brigadier with a sharp new coat . After resting couple days his crew will likely look south in unison with sdf units. Isis is not going to get rest from his men. His men have fought every where in last 2 yrs except deir azzor.

On the contrary it could be Russia cleaning up its house.

I think Syria will cool down with Assad in charge. Palmyra has fallen to Assad forces.

Ukraine could heat up as unfinished war.

Have you read Active Measures article in New Yorker.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/ ... w-cold-war

It looks at the mess from Russian POV.

Israel wont get involved in the shooting.

If my hypothesis about recent events is correct expect some hits on visible members of the american deep state in the coming months from russian intelligence. I think the hit on the churkin will not go unanswered inspite of Trump,s desire to mend fences with the russians. interesting times ahead.

Puk are likely friends with the syrian ypg and assyrian christians and yezidis of sinjar belt.

Kdp is tight with khan and has the best eqpt among the kurd formations

Khan controls barzani for now by routing his dollars via baghdad. If khan pays him directly he will run with erdogan rather than haydar al abadi

Sputnik

The Russian Aerospace Forces have destroyed al-Nusra HQ near Aleppo killing at least 67 terrorists, including 19 field commanders.

On February 28, the headquarters of the al-Nusra terrorist group near Rasm al-Eis village, 28 kilometers south-west of Aleppo, was destroyed by a KAB-500 guided bomb launched by an Su-24 fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace forces, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, the chief of the Russian General Staff Main Operational Directorate, said on Friday.

"As a result, 67 terrorists, including 19 field commanders — natives of the North Caucasus and Central Asia, were eliminated. 104 militants were injured," Rudskoi said.
