France's Macron says he convinced Trump to stay in Syria long-term
http://thehill.com/policy/defense/38327 ... -long-term[/b]

... with another US carrier battle group on the way, and with Haley declaring they're "locked and loaded" for more strikes, the end game should now be obvious. They're going to undo Russia's gains in Syria. The western bloc, with their Saudi and Jew allies, is feeling especially bold now that the Russian bluff has been called. They've bombed SAA on many occasions, shot down SyAF planes, killed Russian mercs on the ground, and launched cruise missiles in both 2017 and last week. They methodically carried out a series of escalations, even killing Russian citizens with impunity, and got away with it every time.

Now they know Russia isn't crazy. They need not have worried this whole time! It turns out Russia (and its people) are actually far more sane than their opponents. The US talking heads and forums are all full of bravado the last several days. Russians are scared, time to kick them out of Syria and Crimea, etc. Lots of chest thumping and arrogance. Isrealis, Saudis, UK and French now feel emboldened, too, safe in the knowledge they can safely bark and bite then scurry behind Uncle for cover. A pack mentality has clearly set in.

Bullies get more aggressive when nobody stands up to them. They only understand the language of force. In conventional military forces, Russia is too vastly outnumbered in theater, so nukes are the only option. The citizens of US\UK\France\Isreal\Saudi need to feel threatened. They need to feel what we feel when faced with the very real prospect of nuclear mushroom clouds over our cities. It's for Russia to put their nuclear arsenal on full alert, publicly, and announce an attack on Syria is an attack on Russia. A public debate must be ignited in the West, Israel and Saudi. Is it really worth nuclear annihilation? I can't speak for the brainwashed Saudis but I'm guessing the average American, Brits, French or Isreali doesn't believe in this cause strongly enough to risk the lives of their families.

Mark my words: if Russia doesn't take a stand, their Syria project is going to end in defeat, followed by expulsion from Syria and the entire Middle East. This goes hand-in-hand with the Isreali\Saudi goals of neutralizing Iran and establishing Sunni supremacy over the region. It will mark the beginning of the end for Putin, as Donbas and Crimea will be the next targets, culminating in civil unrest within Russia and the undoing of Putin's govt. The end goal has always been the same: long-term destabilization of Russia and a return to the good old days of Boris Yeltsin and the 90's, when the West could do whatever it wanted.

Something very interesting happened. Even SOHR (Syrian observatory for Human rights), which is stubbornly anti-russia / Syria reported that close to 65 missiles were intercepted. If SOHR actually mentioned that, it means the Syrian air defense has worked wonders considered that they had really old batteries of the Russian air defence systems.

Well you dont need SOHR or Russian or Pentagon to tell you if these missiles were intercepted and the cruise missile to target ratio should give the answer

Any one who understands this would know a significant portion of missile did get intercepted but quite a decent number still managed to pass through and hit some of the targets NATO wanted to hit , ofcourse if all the missile could hit all the targets then damage would have been 4-5 times more

It is in the interest of Russian MOD and Pentagon to say what they have said and then shut up .... any serious analyst will come to their own conclusion

Why is another battle group on the way to Syria? Korea jollies over? Note Chinese reaction in UNSC was unusually angry. Good time to ratchet up tensions in Korea, with whole US fleet committed across the oceans. Or maybe a quick coup in central/south America.

Or is there raw fear that if 70% of missiles were intercepted with old stuff, and new Russian AD systems are on the way, then the next attack may not only get stopped, the retaliation may get through the carriers' AD.

It should be evident that cruise missiles don't win wars, it takes BOG which none of these nations are willing to commit in large numbers either to loot or protect Syrian oil. But cruise missiles can kill Assad and top leadership, and thus create Libya-like situation.

Wonder how much truth is there in the UK responsibility for the chemical attack. Russians need to raise their credibility a bit. Can't be that difficult given the record of the other side.

imo far less than 100+ missiles were fired
by pre agreement
- syria would claim 100+ and score points for its AD
- russia would agree to go along with this number and praise syrian AD + its own kit
- america would claim 100+ and look decisive and strong
- UK probably fired 1 and claimed 8
- france fired 2 and claimed more

probably less than 30 live missiles were fired , some with inert warheads

nobody has come up with satellite photos of the huge damage that 100 missiles with 400kg warheads can cause.

the science center cannot have been struck by more than 5 missiles, not 30.

Russian MOD :

According to Konachenkov 112 anti air missiles were fired during the Attack from US/UK/FR. 25 of them were from Pantsir systems.

https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/2018 ... -s1-syria/
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry had said that Syrian air defenses intercepted 71 of more than 100 missiles that the United States, the United Kingdom, France launched on Friday in response to the alleged chemical attack in Syria's Douma.

According to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, Russian-made Pantsir-S1 air defense system deployed by the Syrian forces showed almost 100% effectiveness in repelling the Western missile strike.

"In anti-aircraft combat the Russian-made Pantsir S-1 system that had been previously supplied to the Syrian armed forces was active," he added.

Konashenkov went on to say that the Syrian air defenses used 112 ground-to-air missiles to repel the attack that targeted not only facilities in Bbarza and Jjaramana, but also military facilities, including airfields
.

Konashenkov further commented that the strikes had involved cruise missiles launched from the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf and the eastern Syrian city of al-Tanf. The attack targeted the facilities that were not bunkers protected by the Syrian air defenses, he pointed out, adding that those were facilities were built on the surface. He has reiterated that 71 missiles of those 100+ had been intercepted.

The spokesman also denied the reports that S-200 air defense missile system had underperformed while repelling the attack, saying the system is designed to hit aircraft, in the course of fending off the strike.

"However, not long ago, this system destroyed a fighter jet of one of the neighboring states, which tried to violate the Syrian airspace," he added. Konashenkov reiterated that Syrian air defense systems S-125, S-200, Buk, and Kvadrat took part in repelling the joint strike.

{ So the Isreal F-16 some weeks back was down by S-200/SA-5 the oldest of all the SAM Syria deploys but carries a huge warhead }

^, Amen, Austin.

Credit to Russia if they actually did play a game by moving air assets and have them flying during the missile attempt.

All this atleast points to the fact that russia won this round. Will lead to more pressure on DT through the deep state.

More details on the SAM intercept from MOD Briefing today

http://tass.com/defense/1000148
As many as 112 surface-to-air missiles, including 25 Pansir missiles, were used by Syria’s air defense forces to repel the strike delivered by the United States, France and the United Kingdom, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said.

"A total of 112 surface-to-air guided missiles were used to repel the strike," he said, adding that 23 out of 25 missiles fired from the Pansir-S1 system had hit their targets.

"Twenty-nine missile were fired from the Buk system, with 24 of them hitting targets. Eleven missiles were fire from the Osa system. Five of them hit the targets. Thirteen missiles were fired from the S-125 system, five hit the targets. Five missiles were fired from the Strela-10 system, three hit the targets, Twenty-one missiles were fired from the Kvadrat system, eleven hit the targets. Eight missiles were fired from the S-200 systems, none hit the targets," he said, adding that such poor performance of the S-200 system could be explained by the fact that it was meant to hit aircraft. Moreover, in his words, a missile fire from this system hit a fighter jet of one of the neighboring countries not long ago.
Pantsir - 25 Fired - 23 Hits
BUK 29 Fired - 24 Hit
Osa 11 fired - 5 hit
SA-3 13 fired - 5 hit
Strela10 5 fired - 3 hit
SA-6 21 fired - 11 Hit
S-200 8 fired - 0 hit

S-200/SA-5 were the worst performance with 0 hits and Pantsir and BUK got most hits followed by SA-6 and SA-3

The window of opportunity is fast closing.Just around 8 weeks for the World Cup to begin.During that time The Syro-Ru forces will be in defensive mode since Putin will want a successful WC like Sochi.The attempt to sabotage the Sochi Winter Olympics failed despite the UKR coup, but what happened afterwards was the severing of the UKR into two halves and the return of the strat. Crimea to Mother Russia.

The Western mischief- makers and their desert "camel corps" allies should take serious note of what happens when Russia exercises its muscles.In two years they tamed ISIS and the western mercenary forces, the latter often spared fron eternal salvation by Russian generosity.

Until the WC is over, we could see Russia ramp up Syrian AA defences with even more sophisticated SAMs plus greater quantities of exg. SAMs in service.A great way to exhaust Sov. era SAMs, freeing space for newer more potent missiles and systems at home.Similarly , one could after the WC see several Ru anti-ship missiles in action .Urans, Klubs, Kalibir, KHs,Yakhnots and perhaps BMos too in action against any missile-firing platforms. We might even see hypersonic Zircon tested for the first time too.This 6000 mph monster would bring the house down like Ronnie's superhuman bicycle kick!

Land targets, definitely the RAF base in Cyprùs and possibly its facility at Bahrein and Gibraltar.What an outcry there would be if that happens."Putin murderer of our Barbary apes!" Of course there would be intense debate who the apes really were.Brit. soldiers or their long- tailed relatives!

Where are a India's metropolitan elite and chatterati, who are always willing to cry themselves hoarse in their NGO-accented English accents on "South Asia" being a nuclear-flash point everytime the GOI deigns to target terrorists.
Their silence is deafening when the established p5 nuclear powers armed to the hilt with several thousand warheads decide to square up in the Med, the 38th parallel and SE Asia
What this strike shows is that it is possible to conduct counter proliferation/terrorism operations under a nuclear threshold - something that the should give the GOI greater flexibility with the neighbours

What is the map situation in Syria? Is the ground threat to Damascus eliminated? Last I saw, in addition to the surrounded Moderate Beheaders there was also on official ISIS area.

Why did the Syrian Amb say at the UN that 1/3 of Syria is in American occupation still?
Like East Pakistan 1971, the correct solution to the majestic approach of Carrier Groups, Home Fleet, Le Tub de Champagne etc is to finish the ground war.

Sarin or not, the war near Damascus seems to have ended within 2 days of the claimed events, with Russians swarming through the liberated Douma. Now Idlib needs clearing followed by some desert clearing near Tal Afar.

Peto Lucem Twitter thread has a post quoting Robert Fisk. He says he went to the place where the chem attack is said to have taken place. Building is real.
Per the doctors there, children were brought in coughing and sputtering due to dust from shelling. Someone shouted "gas" and they went to standard emergency procedures for gas attack.
But there was no gas attack. Interview with Fisk to be aired tomorrow.

This is the briefing by the Russian MOD. (I prefer the full statement, rather than the summary provided by TASS.) I got the link via Saker's site: http://thesaker.is/briefing-by-russian- ... l-16-2018/

http://eng.mil.ru/en/news_page/country/ ... 611@egNews
Briefing by Russian Defence Ministry official Major General Igor Konashenkov (April 16, 2018)

As it was promised, the Russian Defence Ministry analyzed effectiveness of missile and bomb strike made by the United States, Great Britain, and France on Syria as well as actions held by Syrian air defence units.

It is to be reminded that on April 14 from 3.42 a.m. to 5.10 a.m. (MSK) different objects of the Syrian Arab Republic were attacked air and sea-based missile carriers of the United States and allies.

The cruise missile strikes were delivered from the areas of the Red Sea, Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, al-Tanf illegally controlled by the US troops.

Radar systems of the Syrian Arab Republic tracked 103 air targets.

According to official statements made by representatives of military departments of the United States, Great Britain, and France all strikes were targeted at three Syrian objects. Therefore, each object was targeted at by 30 and more cruise missiles and air-to-ground missiles.

However, such statements cause great skepticism.

The fact is that all Syrian objects declared as targets are not subsurface ones or well protected by the echeloned air defence system of bunkers.

As it can be clearly seen at space images spread by Western media, these are ordinary buildings on the surface.

It is to be reminded that, for example, warhead of the Tomahawk cruise missile, depending on the type, carries up to half a ton of explosive weight.

Therefore, it was enough not more than 10 missiles for each of the three targets in order to destroy them by any calculation methods, taking into account the triple overlap for their guaranteed destruction.

Survey of the territory of the affected sites in Syrian settlements of Barza and Jaramana confirms these calculations.

As it can be seen on the photograph of the facility in the Barza area, the nature of destruction as a result of a missile strike does not correspond to the scale of destruction from the use of three tens of cruise missiles.

Moreover, the survey of the territory of this and other objects did not reveal either a large number of debris and fragmentations of ammunition, or a corresponding number of impact craters.

Now, there is a real situation.

Real targets of the strikes made by the US, Great Britain, and France on April 14 were not only objects in Barza and Jaramana but also Syrian military objects, including airfields.

The Syrian Arab Army used S-200, S-125, Osa, Kvadart, Buk, and Strela air defence systems in order to repel this missile strike.

It is to be stressed that Soviet designed systems were produced more than 40 years ago.

The government troops also actively used the Russia-made Pantsyr air defence system, which had been received by the SAA earlier.

This system during the anti-aircraft battle showed almost 100 percent efficiency.

It is to be stressed that Syrian air defence system was organized on the principle of object defence. Almost all objects protected by air defence systems repelled the strike.

In total, the Syrian AD systems eliminated 71 cruise missiles of 103 ones.

Four missiles targeted the Damascus International Airport; 12 missiles – the Al-Dumayr airdrome, all the missiles have been shot down.

18 missiles targeted the Blai airdrome, all the missiles shot down.

12 missiles targeted the Shayrat airbase, all the missiles shot down.

Two missiles targeted the Tiyas airfield, all the missiles shot down.

Five out of nine missiles were shot down targeting the unoccupied Mazzeh airdrome.

Thirteen out of sixteen missiles were shot down targeting the Homs airdrome. There are no heavy destructions.

Almost 30 missiles and corrected air bombs were targeted research-and-development objects located near Barza and Jaramana. Five of them were hit by Syrian AD systems.

In total, Syrian air defence systems fired 112 air defence missiles.

Pantsyr AD system fired 25 missiles and hit 24 targets;

Buk system fired 29 missiles and hit 24 targets;

Osa system fired 11 and hit 5 targets;

S-125 system fired 13 missiles and hit 5 targets;

Strela-10 system fired 5 missiles and hit 3 targets;

Kvadrat system fired 21 and hit 11 targets;

S-200 system fired 8 and hit no targets.

It is to be added that no one should be misled by low results made by S-200 air defence missile systems.

This system is primarily designed to hit aircraft. However, this system shot down a fighter of a neighboring country. The aircraft took efforts to intrude airspace of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The rest systems showed very high efficiency despite high speed of targets and extremely small radar-cross section.

WASHINGTON — President Trump rejected, for now at least, a fresh round of sanctions set to be imposed against Russia on Monday, a course change that underscored the schism between the president and his national security team.

The president’s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki R. Haley, had announced on Sunday that the administration would place sanctions on Russian companies found to be assisting Syria’s chemical weapons program. The sanctions were listed on a menu of further government options after an American-led airstrike on Syria, retaliating against a suspected gas attack that killed dozens a week earlier.

But the White House contradicted her on Monday, saying that Mr. Trump had not approved additional measures.

Russian Stealth Hunters Reportedly Chased UK Sub Ahead of Syria Strikes
A pair of such “Black Hole” hunter-killer subs, supported by a couple of frigates and an anti-submarine aircraft, reportedly went after a British Astute-class submarine off the Syrian coast this week ahead of Saturday’s US, British and French airstrikes in response to ab alleged chemical weapons attack by Syrian government forces.The Russian Kilo-class submarines tracked the British vessel, armed with Tomahawk missiles, which had moved within firing distance of Syria, The Sunday Times reported.The Russian Defense Ministry hasn't yet commented on the issue.
The “cat-and-mouse” game battle continued for several days. The US Navy sent out a Boeing P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft to the area to track the Russian boats and protect its British ally.The Kilo-class Russian submarines, which carry an impressive arsenal of torpedoes, as well as cruise and anti-ship missiles, are considered by British military experts as a “considerable threat.”In comparison, the Astute-class British submarines have limited firepower and can carrying around 20 Tomahawk cruise missiles.According to The Sunday Times, even though Russian and UK submarines have repeatedly been stalking each other in the Mediterranean, the latest incident is the first such underwater clash as tensions between Moscow and London have reached a boiling point. .

The Hard Talk interview underscores how ridiculous the charges are against Russia the lack of any evidence and blind refusal to listen to Russia's answers to the same,and the6 intensity of the feku news campaign against Russia.
Even the evidence from a Swiss lab that there were traces of another substance developed in the US were brushed off by Sackur who was ticked off by a v.patient Lavrov.

What was the scariest part came at the end,when he said that the situ today was worse than during the Cold War as there were no lines of communication existing having been unilaterally cut by the West, in particular Britain.

The days of detente during the CW of the past and Kissinger style "summit" diplomacy to keep the globe on an even keel have given way to diplomatic barbarism best displayed by the Nikki Hayley and Thetesa May model.
Truly iz ghe saying ghat hhe female of ghe species is deadlier yhan the male.May beseiged by Brexit and a mutinous party has deliberately created these false flag
Incidents to deceive even allies into " punishing" Russia.

But as Lavrov quietly said, they know how to survive from WW2! A nation that packed off Napoleon, and Hitler and still survived the collapse of the USSR, despite all the machinations of NATO and western intel agencies, and have demonstrated their return to the top of the head table in global affairs, seen in Georgia, the UKR and Syria, will simply swat away these latest crude attempts to malign Russia through the Big Lie.

Only a "gesture"! What a joke.Dona Theresa like the man of La Mancha is becoming an object of ridicule,with her wet justification of the Syrian strikes
to her own parliament.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... airstrikes
quote]May serves up lame excuses for not giving MPs a say on airstrikes
John Crace
The Syrian strike at the weekend was only a gesture so there was no need for a vote, opined the PM[/quote]
It was meant to be her best “war” voice, but Theresa May sounded more like a nervous, newly ordained curate leading prayers for the first time as she made her statement to the Commons on the Syrian airstrikes. Piety can be a hard-won virtue and sometimes a prime minister has to fake it to make it. Especially when she’s not entirely certain she’s done the right thing.

May began more in sorrow than anger. She hadn’t wanted to get involved but the Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons on its own people had left her no option. So far so good. It was when she got on to the reasons why she hadn’t recalled parliament to sanction her military intervention that she struggled to maintain good faith.

Think of it this way, she said. It was only a teeny-weeny airstrike. One that had been carefully calibrated as a token gesture to make everyone feel as if Britain was doing the right thing, while guaranteeing that the Russians did nothing beastly to us in return. So under the circumstances, she had decided not to disturb MPs while they were on their hols. She knew how exhausted they all were and she didn’t want to bother their pretty little heads about something so trivial. And, besides, there was always a chance they might make her look stupid by voting against her.

Trump: Russia failed to intercept a single missile in Syria :((

Trump said that "Russia could not bring down any missiles." From the statement of the US President:
They say that they shot down 40 missiles, 50, but in fact they did not shoot down one missile. Their systems just did not work.

If SOHR actually mentioned that, it means the Syrian air defense has worked wonders considered that they had really old batteries of the Russian air defence systems.

the israeli strikes are last ditch provocations to get the syrians and persians to react and provide an excuse for a large scale nato-cum-israel air attack.

with the offensive south of damascus kicking off, first the nearest area yarmouk camp will be cleaned out of ISIS. fighting has started.

then all the ISIS/FSA israel has been supporting in the border tracts of daraa and golan will be rolled back and eliminated.

baki to kuch nahi rahega.

the persians and hezbollah have their heart set on sitting all over the old golan border, unprotected by any isis buffer
