like rommel and guderian bypassed the maginot line and went in through the ardenne, before fanning out, the syrians have let the tough western defences of jobar and hasrata and ayn tarma be alone and rolling them up from the backside...

the tiger is camping on roofs with his russian security detail and keeping a hawks eye on the proceedings. he has a kind of direct line to hymenim to request special airstrikes as needed.

formations with exp in urban fighting like some units of the repub guard, liwa al quds are being kept on sidelines until the countryside is roll up and sanitized and the fight will shift to the created pockets which will be further sliced and islanded.

Douma is under UN cover and is being left alone as a "bana alabed/last hospital" kind of area for optics. food and humanitarian corridor is there

https://ejmagnier.com/2018/03/04/ghouta ... what-next/

from 2.5 million before the war, estimates of current civilian pop in east ghouta is 300,000. the captured areas look deserted and neither are there civilians emerging from liberated areas unlike aleppo or mosul. some areas like Jobar were uninhabited long ago after intense battles that made a ruin of everything.

300k in a area around 10km x 10km is pretty thin.

maybe all the civilians are in douma under UN food supply...

baki around 8000 jihadis of 4 major factions were reported to be there. jaish al islam had a major military academy now captured.

a few 100 jihadis must have perished so far.

the syrians sleep in the day and attack at night, and rebel supply routes are under drone observation to call in air strikes.

turkiye continues to gain in afrin
YPG refuses to lay down arms and hand control to damascus, but is itself unable even with some NDF help to repel the turks
there is no defence against turkish 155mm guided by commando teams, gunships and F-16s.

if they lose Jinderes to the left, the road to Afrin itself will be open and its game over. they will need to retreat from the north to avoid encirclement

unless the kurds make peace with SAA which then steps in bigtime the fate of afrin is sealed - under turkiye boots.

erdogan is too clever to fall for the bait of attacking manbij - he knows the americans will respond.

after digesting afrin and resettling hordes of his turkoman refugees/landless, he will open some other front like jarablous or kobane claiming some ancient grevieances

YPG is spending cycles endlessly wailing about civilians attacked, looted etc, but none give a s***, incl their bff unkil sam.

the only entity with some ability to help them is saa and they have cut a line to saa by going with along nato plan to dismember syria and tying in with rebadged bandits of the SDF

saa will probably do nothing even if asked, they have offered efrin for erdogan to eat in exchange for keeping idlib stable and HTS on the backfoot for some time using jaish al suriya cannon fodder, while east ghouta and daraa issue is settled.

also Hasrata is being surrounded and isolated by two prongs one of which is the military base and another in map north of it.

it would have been great if issam zahreddine were alive and able to lead his SRG units from the south...he was in east ghouta region start of the war.

Worst of all, YPG commander clearly still believe that there is some sort of red lines in front of the Turks in Afrin area ... I don't know what is it with Syrian opposition always relaying on foreign miracles to save them from military defeats

all what the YPG is doing is destroying a pick up truck here and there while losing ground ... they are too scared of losing their good weapons like ATGMs that they are not even using it on the hot fronts !

faylaq al Rahman another favoured munna of the west has now moved east to try and rebuild the shattered positions of the jaish al islam which has slinked away after the beatings they got over the last few days.

the other two - HTS and Shams are smaller players in east ghouta

faylaq are said to be pretty hardcore and close to HTS ideology than JAI which is "moderate" :D

Jaysh Al-Islam has completed withdrawal from #Misraba. All regular fighters have retreated towards #Douma. Young men, natives of the town, have taken up arms to maintain security for civs who stayed behind and attempt to fend off any regime incursion should deal be reneged upon.

^^^ Misraba is the only town between the two sides for SAA to link up. if they leave town alone and go around it, they can probably link up and break the east ghouta into two pockets

looks like jaish al islam now moved into douma might agree to a face saving deal where they and families get to evacuate to place of choice (idlib or daraa) in exchange for civilians from fuah and kafraya....

the southern pocket of jobar - ain terma will probably see more fighting, albeit now their defences are turned and will be attacked from the more open rear areas. faylaq al rahman will probably fight on.

russians will be looking to broker a deal and induce other batches of jihadis to accept such offers and move on.

Beirut, Lebanon (CNN)Russia has offered rebels and their families safe passage out of besieged Eastern Ghouta as Syrian government forces continue to pound the opposition enclave.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it would protect insurgents who accept the offer from prosecution, according to a statement by Russia's Defense Ministry. The Russian military would also provide transport and security, the statement said.

A Russian transport plane crashed on landing at the Hmeimim airbase in Syria Tuesday, killing all 32 on board, Russia's defence ministry said.

its almost impossible to save Afrin at this point, the second phase of the Turkish attack is brilliant in military terms, very well organized

^^^ once jinderes falls afrin is gone for sure. any major movement in day or night is attacked by turkish f16 guided by drones and hit by artillery.
the YPG grossly overestimated its ability to fend off the turks, depended on US intervention which did not come and acted tough with damascus...

they are going to have to slink back and lick their wounds in manbij sector and PRAY the US protects that enclave.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says offensive operations against Islamic State fighters in eastern Syria have been paused because U.S.-backed Kurdish soldiers have shifted to a separate fight against Turkish forces.

A Pentagon spokesman, Col. Rob Manning, called it an "operational pause." He said that although ground operations have been temporarily suspended in the Euphrates River Valley near the Iraqi border, U.S. airstrikes against IS holdouts in that area are continuing. This includes areas around the city of Abu Kamal.

Against U.S. wishes, Kurdish members of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces who had been fighting to eliminate remaining pockets of IS in the Euphrates River Valley have moved to the Afrin enclave in northwest Syria. Turkish forces have been attacking in Afrin for the past six weeks, seeking to drive out Kurdish forces.

^^^ YPG and jaish al thuwar are moving enmasse to Afrin , assad will green flag them via aleppo....the situation is critical.
this leaves only the rebadged ISIS pasands of the deir azzor mil council DMC under tutelage of various foreign brokers to "hold position" vs their friends in the official isis.

VIDEO: Russian tank-carrying naval transport heads to Syria fully loaded
By Andrew Illingworth - 06/03/20182

BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:40 A.M.) – The Russian military is sending another batch of vehicles and heavy weapons to Syria in order to further bolster the Arab republic’s armed forces.

On Monday, observers in the Bosphorus Strait spotted and filmed the Mediterranean-bound journey of a Russian Navy Tapir-class LST (Landing Ship Tank) sealifter.

Identified more specifically as Orsk 148, the naval cargo ship is noted by sources to be inbound to the Syrian port city of Tartus – its second such deployment since the beginning of 2018.

Whilst a number of military trucks were spotted above deck, it is worth noting that the true cargo-carrying capacity of the ship is hidden inside deceptively spacious storage areas within the vessel itself.

Tapir-class LSTs are capable of carrying up to twenty main battle tanks (or 40 infantry fighting vehicles).
