Usa has provided vehicles for raqqa ops but no real heavy weapons
Thats why a little town like tabqa is taking so long
Nobody in ypg wants to die fighting for an atea they will vacate for the arab tribes in sdf

Issam zahreddine continues to lead the repub guard beating back n number of daesh attacks in deir azzor. The area of airbase perimeter as slowly expanded as isis is forced to send off more people to fight sdf.
Amrika is trying to make a play at iraqi border by funding iraqi tribes to fight isis in concert with jordan based khan pasand rebels.

Spheres of influence. Russi has west and north west. Usa has north anc north east. Hezbollah has south. East is still up for a fight. Usa is funding proxies to capture as much of syria iraq border as possible
^^ what khan is trying to do is block the syria-iraq border from incursion by the PMU which would complete the Shiite crescent overland to hezbollah. with this in mind, SDF has occupied Ash shahdadi about 40km north of deir azzor (the red island in map) , that is the route from tal afar and mosul to deZ
and the cia trained new syrian army has staged out of jordan to advance across uncontested desert south and east of palmyra to capture the T3 pumping station which is so desolate it makes palmyra and its famous T4 pumping statiion+airbase looks like manhattan. clearly the idea is to block the most direct route from palmyra to deZ which avoids the ISIS stronghold of sukhanah.
various arab tribes in DeZ region have been given their bags of gold to join the SDF and similarly the iraqi tribes in anbar are being goaded to attack the ISIS in al-qaim and al-bukamal on the border to complete the "great wall"

the bulk of ISIS are now strung out along the euphrates in a series of small towns from raqqa to al-qaim with DeZ as a eyesore in the middle. not all are fighters...there are equal number of admins, wives, kids, camp followers, captives, slaves, teachers, psychopaths and so on.
then there are strong pockets of ISIS in al sukhanah, tabqa town, eastern homs mountains , al quraytyn mountains and al maskanah plains. the ones in al quraytyn are probably not "core" ISIS this far west but local militias who pledged allegiance to the khalifa at some point and then got funds and weapons.
then there is a mysterious ISIS west of daraa abutting the israeli border who miraculously get all the weapons they need, but NOT from jordan , NOT from israel but FROM thin air they fight the FSA to pass the time.
in east ghouta a bloodbath is ongoing between AQ and ISIS to see who gets to rule. SAA is patiently watching this attrition as it makes their eventual job easier. east ghouta is real close to damascus as is a non-negotiable for assad to recapture it. in southern regions unlike aleppo, the SAA generally prefers to surround rebel areas to avoid civilian deaths and then wait it out until they relent and board the green buses to Idlib.

^^^ Su-22 evading manpads proves the point that you need MAWS on every fighter aircraft to inform the pilot he is under attack from passive manpads.
The evasion Su-22 did is probably his altitude and his hunch that he was under manpads attack , else there is no way for a pilot to know he is under attack and carry out even basis manouvering along with flares to avoid manpads , Without MAWS it would depend on MANPADS SAM probability of hit and luck of the pilot.

IAF should get MAWS for all its fighter aircraft ASAP , more so for low flying types like Jags
MAWS is now as important as having a RWR in the aircraft , Atleast it would give the vector/speed of the MANPADS and give the pilot a chance to manouver to avoid getting hit

no flares dropped either, but maybe he was tipped off on radio by his wingman orbiting the area for a lookout...or the FAC on ground guiding his strike.
looks like manpads are fairly easy to evade if a plane has energy and good climb and turn rate. they are ambush weapons like SSK and not chasing weapons like a proper SAM.
I would agree with the MAWS thing, the pakis rely a lot on dense manpad coverage since they lack large nos of larger SAMs.

If you recollect during Kargil we lost 2 aircraft due to Manpads.
Manpads can be evaded if the aircraft has altitude and speed which makes it easy to manouver if the pilot/wingman knows he is under attack , Usually a plume of missile will be give away.
If they are flying low and slower then MANPADS can take its toll , These Jihadi arnt using the latest manpads they are like 2 decade old types SA-16/Stinger .. Pakis would be using a lot newer ones.
MAWS is Must as RWR for any fighter these days in manpads infested environment

smokeless motor and low IR signature like latest aam can be assumed. will take a good MAWS to pick it up coming off a hot area like sindh or punjab plains with heat haze in the day.

Any IR based MAWS or UV based one should pick these low IR signature AAM/MANPADS with high probability they would still have high heat on the motors even if low smoke one that would be very distinguishable against the cool background of IR/UV seekers.
For hardkill we will need DIRCM but to start with latest generation flares should do.
Aleast our pilot needs a fighting chance to deal with MANPADS , Cant afford to loose multi-million dollar aircraft to 100 thousand dollar manpads.

Ankara has withdrawn a 130 percent tariff on Russian grain following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi.
The Wednesday meeting in Sochi between Putin and Erdogan did not solve the issue of Turkish tomatoes. Putin said Russian farmers have taken out significant loans to boost domestic production and construct greenhouse facilities, so lifting restrictions now will hurt them.
However, Turkey will sell tomatoes to Russia in seasons when the country can’t grow sufficient amounts. Before the deterioration in relations, 70 percent of Turkish tomatoes were exported to Russia.
Russia, Iran and Turkey signed a memorandum on Thursday to create four safe “de-escalation zones” in Syria, which if successful would be one of the most far-reaching steps to halt bloodshed in a war now in its seventh year.
The memorandum, circulated in advance by Russia at cease-fire talks in Astana, Kazakhstan, is rife with ambiguities. Some rebel representatives at the talks denounced the agreement as inadequate.
But the top United Nations envoy dealing with the conflict, Staffan de Mistura, who also was at the talks, called the memorandum an “important, promising, positive step in the right direction.” It was a significant endorsement from a diplomat who has struggled mightily to bring antagonists together for peace talks that have made no progress.

Tabqa town has fallen with 57 isis killed. Kurds decided to take no prisoners to teach a lesson.
A small area incl the dam in north of town is still in daesh hands
A unit of 300 fresh fighters from manbij broke the town defences.

Iraqi 9th div is finally crashing through outying colonies and industries of west mosul. Not khan trained for urban cqb but they are applying the hammer not to prolomg the 7 month long siege of lakhs of innocents. Scalpel in old mosul did not work
they fight the FSA to pass the time.
