European Union: Positive News

Postby UlanBatori » 01 Jun 2016 15:52

In looking through BRF, I find no place to post commendations on the Leaders of Civilization and Pioneers in Saving the Planet and Human Rights, The European Union. Think about it: Who gave us Global Warming? (I mean, the UNFCCCCC) The Carbon Market? Hercule Poirot? Inspecteur Clouseau? Angela Merkel? L'Airboos A-320? Sarkozy? FIFA? The Olympic Committee? The Greek lesson in financial management? The Italian lesson in IFF (Identification Friend or Fore) and sharpshooting at fishermen? The Volkswagen Emission Accounting System? The Exocet Missile? Les Chambres de Gaz? The Yugoslavian Spring, which was the template for all subsequent Springs? If you read BRF, you'd think that Oirope amounts to nothing at all.

So, dedicated to those pioneers and Humanists, I submit this humble offering: A whole Thread dedicated to Positive News about Europe, specifically, the European Union.

the article that ub posted has to do with sexual assault by paakis and germans...most german universities are sub standard and only the indians who fail to get into american universities or can't afford them go to deutschland...and they too are being swayed by the marketing blitz the german embassy/gov't is trying to pull in India to attract students and workers..i seriously hope that indians don't fall for the snake oil...most of the educational programs are worthless...the quality of german med students i have seen in the us is sub-par...and i have students from LMU-munchen/ hannover etc...they were shockingly poorly trained...

the above ad clearly targets the Yindians..

I can understand your angst about the Indians in the US..We are the richest community here..its only a matter of time when our lobbies will exert more influence on washington then AIPAC....and also in advanced STEM faculty.. But remember that u got the country from native americans by exporting your men from oirope...we ll get it from you by exporting our men from India..all food chain only..all you can do shoot bullets in the air like yosemite sam...maybe you could chant the gayatri mantra instead and try getting in our good books..

Now now. Let's keep this Positively Positive and Oiropean shall we? 8) Indian embassy staff send their kids to the US because childcare is less complicated: fewer rules etc. Just get a European au pair who has run away from slavery at the mansions of one of State Dept. mandarins/Future POTUS candidates/COTUSppl. In Oirope things are much more complicated. Hire an au pair, next thing u know she's President of the largest political/corruption mafia in the country. Too costly

Teenage girl admits making up migrant rape claim that outraged Germany

A 13-year-old Russian-German girl has admitted making up a story about being kidnapped and raped by migrants in a case that triggered a furore in Germany and briefly embroiled Berlin police in a spat with the Kremlin, state prosecutors said.

The parents of the teenager, named only as Lisa, reported her missing on 11 January after she failed to appear at school in the Marzahn district of the capital. She reappeared 30 hours later with injuries on her face, and told her parents she had been attacked by men of Middle Eastern or north African appearance. News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin’s Russian-German community.

Immigrants Aren't Responsible for Rape Culture in Germany

By Stefanie Lohaus and Anne Wizorek

Ever since New Year's Eve, German media have largely been discussing the violence at Cologne's central train station in terms of a rape culture that was imported into Germany—simply because the perpetrators in this case looked "Arab" or "North African," according to witnesses. The only point being, of course, that the men weren't white.

That's an idea that renders sexualized violence and theft harmless by trivializing and exorcizing both notions. The fact that our society and its institutions aren't in any position to protect those affected by the violence and identify its culprits doesn't in any way mean that there's never been sexualized violence in Germany before. In fact, Germany's rape culture is deeply rooted in our collective psyche.

Sexual assaults and even rape happen every year at big events like Oktoberfest. "The way to the toilet alone is like running the gauntlet: within 50 feet, you can be sure to tally three hugs from drunken strangers, two pats on the ass, someone looking up your dirndl, and some beer purposely splashed right down your cleavage," wrote Karoline Beisel and Beate Wild in 2011, in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. An average of ten reported rapes take place each year at Oktoberfest. The estimated number of unreported cases is 200.

I must agree. Packers are very mild mannered in the US when love is in the air. They don't want to risk getting deported.

When in Europe one must appeal to the au pairs sense of fairness.

Yeah right. Germans have better medical care than the US does with its over paid doctors and hospitals. There is no reason for the amount of foreign doctors in the US other than the lucre. And the women worshippers.its nothing but a poontang extravaganza.

Germans don't exactly have a better healthcare system then the US...They have better HDI indicators because of better access...even a homeless guy gets free healthcare... other thing that ruins the American system that insurers and administrators interference in health care...certainly not the quality of docs which is by far the best in the world...

Positively Oiropean, pls.

Poodlestan to secede from Oirope, join T(rump)-Party.

...this month that if he were president, an exit from the EU would not hurt the U.K. in terms of trade relations with the U.S.
"I don't think they'll be hurt at all. I mean, they'll have to make their own deal. Britain's been a great ally," Trump said.
President Barack Obama has urged the U.K. to stay in the EU, writing an op-ed in the British newspaper "The Telegraph" about the vote.
"As citizens of the United Kingdom take stock of their relationship with the EU, you should be proud that the EU has helped spread British values and practices," Obama wrote. "The European Union doesn't moderate British influence -- it magnifies it. A strong Europe is not a threat to Britain's global leadership; it enhances Britain's global leadership."
In response, the former mayor of London, Boris Johnson, a "Brexit" supporter, wrote an op-ed for "The Sun" newspaper suggesting the "the part-Kenyan President" had an "ancestral dislike of the British empire."
Advocates for the "Brexit" argue that remaining in the EU undermines U.K. (Honour, Dignity and) Sovirginty, preventing them from negotiating better trade deals and locking them into a open-door immigration policy. Critics, though, caution that leaving the EU risks economic fallout once the U.K. is no longer included in favorable EU trade deals, and that Britain's exit would weaken the institution as a bulwark against Russia at a time of increasing tension in Eastern Europe.

Le Train Grand Vitesse is a bit of Train de non-Vitesse these dins

An open-ended rail strike is under way in France just nine days before the country hosts the Euro 2016 football tournament.
Only 60% of high-speed trains and between a third and a half of other services are expected to run, according to the state rail company (the SNCF).
Trade unions are protesting against work time changes but the strike comes amid general labour unrest.
The wider protests are over a bill to shake up the labour market.
The bill comes before the Senate this month, having passed through the lower house without a vote.
France's Socialist President, Francois Hollande, insists it will not be withdrawn despite months of unrest which erupted into street clashes between protesters and police at marches last Thursday.
Leading conservative opposition politician Nicolas Sarkozy has accused him of getting "everything wrong from the start" in his handling of the crisis.
"Pushing [the bill] through by force cuts out debate," the former president said in an interview with magazine Valeurs Actuelles, due to be published on Thursday.

French labour reform bill - main points

The 35-hour week remains in place, but as an average. Firms can negotiate with local trade unions on more or fewer hours from week to week, up to a maximum of 46 hours.
Firms are given greater freedom to reduce pay.
The law eases conditions for laying off workers, which is strongly regulated in France. It is hoped companies will take on more people if they know they can shed jobs in case of a downturn.
Employers to get more leeway to negotiate holidays and special leave, such as maternity or for getting married. These are currently also heavily regulated.

Strike action led by the powerful CGT union began on Tuesday evening - the eighth railway strike in France in three months.
High-speed services to the UK and Germany (Eurostar and Alleo) are said to be normal but just 40% of Ellipsos services to Spain and a third of SVI services to Italy are expected to run.

German U.'s do not charge tuition. at least at the undergraduate level.

US u.'s *regularly* raise their tuition greater than the cost of living or inflation...... every year. despite some of them having ginormous endowments.

for most students it's a real rip off considering how few graduates have jobs in their majors.

oh yeah and they're real bastions of freedom of speech also....... great practitioners of the bill of rights......

the only truly educated are those who get a liberal arts education.

the whole STEM nonsense needs to be done at trade technical centers.

most of those kids in U. engineering depts never get a job in engineering.

what a waste of effort...... :(

some day the truth will come out about the BS in "higher" education.

18 wimmens reported haraam-haraam, but only 3 Pakis have been arrested.
Three men from Pakistan aged between 28 and 31 have been arrested and police are still searching for three men who may also have been involved.

The attacks are similar to those reported in Cologne and other cities on New Year's Eve, when as many as 1,000 women were groped and robbed.

Police said three women reported being groped at the Schlossgrabenfest music festival in Darmstadt on Saturday, saying they had been encircled then sexually harassed by a group of men.

By Tuesday, 15 more women had made complaints of being sexually assaulted in a similar manner at the festival.

One of the things that go severely underreported in Oirope is that the crisis may be in Syria and Iraq and Libya, but most of the able-mijjiled men 'refugees' are from Pakistan. Must be Putin's and Assad's fault, yep!

Le Havre, France (CNN)Much of France may soon come to a halt as more workers from different industries join nationwide strikes over labor reforms, threatening to turn the Euro 2016 soccer championships into a logistical nightmare when they start next week.
The French government has been scrambling to keep gas stations from running dry and cities powered after workers at oil refineries and nuclear plants walked off the job weeks ago, but its worries grew worse Wednesday as transportation workers joined the strike, hitting the country's rail and metro networks.

Just a third of rail services are running Thursday, and some air traffic controllers went on strike this week, grounding at least 10,000 British airline passengers. Some have agreed to return to work over the weekend, while pilots have said they will go on strike next week.
France's gas stations running dry
Police, protesters clash at Paris anti-labor reform rally

Police, protesters clash at Paris anti-labor reform rally 01:48
In the industrial port town of Le Havre, workers who usually drive trains, sell tickets and maintain stations stormed the tracks Thursday to protest, only to be met by a storm of tear gas from riot police. Meanwhile, floods threaten to heighten the chaos in the country's east, which, like neighboring Germany, has been inundated by deadly storms.
Le Havre is home to one of Europe's biggest ports, and it too has come to a halt, with dock workers saying they will go on strike Friday.
What's all the fuss about?
The government is trying to roll back the country's labor laws, which offer some of the world's best protections to workers. Such strikes are going on largely due to the power of unions and workers' actions.

Dirt poor Cuba has some better health care indices than the US.

Too bad about those docs who are by far the best in the world (an absurd statement if I ever read one).

^^ the pharmaceutical mafia and the stink of the American healthcare system has nothing to do with the training of docs...interesting that you mention the example of Harvoni the hep c drug..I just had a horrible dealing with Gilead ,the manufacturer of the drug in the US...The drug is absurdly expensive in the US...something like 1000 bucks a tablet... now the drug company has a program that is suppose to make it more "accessible" to people who can't "afford" it..that includes pretty much everyone...I had this complex patient vasculitis with Hep-c ,who most certainly would benefit from the drug you mentioned...the GI fellow spent 4 hours filling the 50+ page form that gilead provided to get him the drug for cheap...they rejected his application because the patients platelet was 86,000 and they only gave the reduced price harvoni to people with platelet <70k..which was the most absurd criterion I ever heard as platelet count has nothing to do with this...it was just their way of shifting goal post and denying access ...the big pharma (novartis/merck/pfizer/sanofi) collude with each other ..I call them the axis of evil, which they indeed are..and docs are not responsible for them.

This is nothing new, and just reinforces the saying that "the more things change, the more they remain the same." Europeans have a history of trying to buy off troublemakers with gifts of land. The French king bought off the troublesome "Normans" this way, by giving them land in the south of France (which, today, is known as "Normandy"). These Normans weren't happy enough with this, and in 1056, William of Normandy led the invasion of England, and succeeded in winning the battle of Hastings. This led to the Norman conquest of the Saxons of England, which is the basis for novels such as Ivan Hoe (by Walter Scott), or Hereward the Wake (I think by Kingsley).

Different matter that the Saxons themselves were invaders in England, who displaced the original Welsh (Celts).

Incidentally, the Czars of Russia tried the same thing, by trying to move all the Jews into one single province (which, today, is called the "Evreiskij province" (Jewish province)). This province is also called "Birobidjan."

Edit: The policy of settling Jews in that province seems to have been a Soviet policy under Stalin, not a czarist one.

the difference being , I would say sir is that the people you mentioned like the jews were in the place for some time before being re-arranged and thus the othering is difficult, culturally they must have had some russian "sensibilities".(not counting the uber mensch for this example ).
as far as conquests go, every tribe was on the lookout for land and/ or loot, why it can be argued that we have done the same wrt the world bank's employee idea by carving lawless territories east and west of us for the sole purpose of housing migrants and people beholden to their way of life.
the difference i think is that the immigrants to europe today are not there for conquest(in the traditional manner) nor are they entrenched bhoomi putra, at least not yet. The othering feeling in this case should be strong enough for every citizen, but their lack of self preservation by suggesting carving off a piece of land for newcomers is what i cannot reconcile with logically.
if we consider the immigrants of today like the romas of yesterday, what happened to them is what i expected would befall the newcomers. this change in feelings is what essentially confounds me.

I agree that there are differences, just pointing out that when faced with a current crisis, societies tend to have some subliminal memory of what was tried in the past (no matter how distant) and to reach out for the same kind of solutions (whether or not those "solutions" solve the problem is a different issue) and to try to reapply them to the current problem. So India better watch out, because that implies that Ambhis and Jaichands are a given in the future, as are over-ethical Prithviraj Chauhans.

I would say the Normans were much more like the current immigrants to Europe than the Jews of Russia, but of course there are differences even there.

As for the Romas, they are simply not an aggressive group, they don't even have the "potential for aggression" that is implicit in the current immigrants. So the Romas are taken for granted, and treated differently - no need to try and appease such a meek people. So their fate now is much like the earlier fate of Jews in Europe - ghettos and pogroms. If the Roma were to mobilize and hit back, I'll wager that Europe would try to buy them off as well.

I'll stop with the digression now. On with the positivity.

I'd also say that the partition of India was a European solution, forced on India by the Brits and duly accepted by the usual Macaulayized suspects, while the real well-wishers of India were against the idea.

marriages were arranged at a very early age back in the day.

then, about 400 years ago guys like billy the bard and roving troubadours popularized romance.

like the old church hymn says, "when ancient good becomes uncouth".

we also don't pour our coffee into a saucer plate, blow on it, and then noisely sip it from the saucer plate anymore either. :D

or eat with our hands, unless it's pizza, fried chicken. hamburgers or hot dog sandwiches.

Unless it's pizza, fried chicken, hamburgers, or hot dog sandwiches? What's the matter, you guys ain't yet invented tools sophisticated enough to deal with these foods, and need to fall back on the good-old God-given hands, which have the necessary degrees of freedom to handle such tricky foods (27 degrees of freedom in each hand, to be exact)? Last I heard (this was sometime ago, and robotics has no doubt moved on since then) robots were struggling to achieve four or five degrees of freedom.

But don't worry, as your civilization advances, such barbarous practices as eating with one's own hands, even for pizza or fried chicken, can be totally dispensed with. Also to be dispensed with - walking on your own feet, thinking with your own brain, digesting with your own stomach, and other such relics of the dismal past. Robots will do all the above (slavery having gone out of fashion and all). In fact, there will come a cell-phone app, which will put you totally to sleep at birth, take over your life, live and love and marry and have kids for you, notify all your friends' cell-phone apps about it (friends will of course be chosen by the app itself), and wake you when it's time to be buried (or even that can be dispensed with).

I think you should give up trying to use English. Get a job at a university in India. You will feel much better about yourself. :) Go home. Please.

Or else move to Chicago, even better. :D South side. Buy a convenience store. Call it Mysore Store.
