For that we should have military capability to take on Paki escalation, we would need a good MIC working for 5 years.

We need to be properly armed with Paki miltary capability being in a total hopeless situation to win this war.

Major, 2 soldiers die in cross border firing. Guys, this is the most important story so far today. However, that horrific bus accident in Rajasthan- can you imagine the terror the passengers went through before dying- has at least justifiable precedence.

an interesting tidbit from a link in another thread on this forum.
The Al-Furqan Brigade consisting entirely of Ahmadis took part in the incursion of Kashmir in 1947-48. It was the first case of an armed non-state actor involved in an armed conflict which forced the Maharaja into the arms of India.

continuing with the appeasement policy the govt says No proposal to abolish Articles 35A, 370 in parliament
The Government today said there was no proposal as of now for abolition of Articles 35A and 370 which give special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The reply came in response to the question posed by Akali Dal MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa about the status of abolishing Article 35A and Article 370.
“No proposal regarding abolition of Article 35A and Article 370 in respect of Jammu and Kashmir is at present under consideration of the Government,” Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said replying to a written question.

tale of minorities in J&K

so alarming is the security situation in Jammu & Kashmir that after failing to hold elections to Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency for over a year,
Anti-Jammu can be read as anti-Hindu and anti-minorities. Refusing to extend Central grants for minorities to the State’s religious minorities, the Mehbooba Mufti Government recently informed the Supreme Court that it would consider setting up a minority commission in the State “if the need arose”, as minorities notified by the Government of India are entitled to benefits in Jammu & Kashmir despite the non-applicability of the National Commission for Minorities Act 1992, to the State.

To the uninitiated, this means that the State’s religious minorities, viz, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Christians, will not get any relief from Central schemes
and funds as they are notified as minorities at the national level, along with Muslims, but not in the State.
the result of the desire of the BJP to enjoy the pleasures of office is
This legal anomaly allows the State Government to funnel the benefits of all Central schemes and funds for minorities almost exclusively towards the Muslim majority of Srinagar valley. The State’s religious minorities are left high and dry. Neither the National Conference or the PDP, or even the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party State units, have ever espoused the need for a State minority commission to provide benefits to the beleaguered minorities.
the disgraceful attitude of the present union govt
It defies reason why successive Central Governments do not withhold these schemes until the State enacts appropriate legislation for distribution of benefits, as appropriation by the dominant community negates the objective of the programmes. More pertinently, as Jammu & Kashmir has special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, how can the State Government permit extension of a Central scheme without enabling a legislation? By this logic, all Central laws and programmes can be extended to the State without special sanction.
appeasement
Perhaps this case can be cited to prove to the Supreme Court that Article 370 is a political device to pamper the State’s Muslim political parties, with deleterious consequences for its citizens. This appeasement consciously excludes non-Muslim State subjects from its embrace, making it the worst form of communalism India has ever seen. But now that we have evidence of successive regimes permitting Central schemes without enabling legislation, in order to divert morally untenable benefits to Muslims, we must challenge the non-accountability bestowed by Article 370 and the legitimacy of the Indian taxpayer being made to fund a collectivity known best for its infatuation with the land across the border.

Jammu-based lawyer Ankur Sharma filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court in 2016 for scrapping of minority benefits to Muslims in Jammu & Kashmir on the ground that they constitute the majority in the State; for getting a minority commission set up in Jammu & Kashmir to identify religious and linguistic minorities; and for extension of the NCM Act to the State.

Interestingly, the apex court is also hearing petitions seeking scrapping of Article 35A and Article 370 that bestow the State with special constitutional status vis-à-vis the rest of India and make the minorities especially vulnerable.

Unfortunately, in the December 11 hearing, the Supreme Court said it could not direct the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly to enact a law to set up a minority commission, as the issue belonged to the State Legislature. But on August 8, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra had objected to the “disastrous” affidavit submitted by the Mufti regime on the issue and asked the Centre and State Government to jointly take a “considered view” on the subject within three months.
and the so called high level committee only works for KM
Previously, on May 1, the centre informed the court that a high-level committee comprising the Union minority affairs secretary, Jammu & Kashmir chief secretary and other officials was set up after the court’s March 27 order, to submit a joint proposal suggesting solutions to the problems faced by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians due to their non-identification as minorities in the State. The Jammu & Kashmir Government had opposed the PIL for creation of a minority commission on grounds that it was not the only State where minorities declared under the National Commission for Minorities Act were in a majority.
this has led to
However, a growing sense of deprivation has led to crystallisation of Hindu sentiments on the issue. Recently, the BJP State spokesperson, Prof Virender Gupta, berated the coalition partner, saying, “The Kashmiri leadership that considers itself as the most secular lot in the country cannot afford to ignore the plight of minorities in the State who are criminally victimised and discriminated against”. Gupta said it “amounts to cheating the nation and looting money from the central exchequer meant for religious and linguistic minorities in the State”. But the BJP seems conflicted on the issue as State general secretary Ashok Kaul said Hindus cannot be a minority anywhere in India as they are the national majority.

Meanwhile, discontent in Ladakh has caused elected representatives to reiterate their demand for separation from Kashmir due to discrimination by successive Governments in the past 70 years, in every sphere — jobs, education, benefits of schemes or political representation. Thupstan Chhewang, BJP MP from Ladakh, rues the BJP’s failure to implement its promise of Union Territory status to Ladakh. Some MLAs favour creation of “Greater Ladakh” comprising Kargil, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and all areas previously part of Ladakh region before Partition.
and the worst part while Rohigya are being settled by the Govt in J&K and the Central Govt and BJP legislators in the State are doing nothing
The alacrity with which the Chief Minister granted amnesty to 390 allegedly “first time stone throwers” in north Kashmir has aggravated tensions in Jammu and Ladakh; ultimately around 4,500 stone-pelters will be pardoned. At the other end of the spectrum, Hindu and Sikh refugees from West Pakistan and Kashmiri Pandits forced to leave the valley in 1990, languish from sheer neglect, while funds are being collected to bring and settle illegal Rohingyas in Jammu. Rohingyas are being wooed byjihadi groups and pose a serious security threat. For minorities, the playing field is becoming increasingly lopsided.

Indian troops kill JeM 'commander' in Jammu & Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Indian troops have killed the commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad in India’s Jammu & Kashmir, police said Tuesday, as the disputed territory ended its deadliest year for a decade.

Noor Muhammad Tantray, the head in the Kashmir valley of the Jaish-e-Muhammad group, was trapped in a house outside the main city of Srinagar on Monday evening along with his associates, triggering a fierce overnight gunbattle.

Indian forces described the operation as a “significant breakthrough” after Tantray’s body was found under debris on Tuesday.

Police and troops cordoned off a group of houses at Samboora, “which resulted in a fierce gunbattle leading to elimination of top JeM commander Noor Mohammad Tantray,” police said in a statement.

Tantray’s two associates managed to escape, a police official said on condition of anonymity.

The 47-year-old JeM commander , who was only three feet tall according to police reports, was described by officials as a new “security headache” for the Indian forces when he took over as head of the group in IoK last year.

According to police he spent 12 years in jail after being convicted in a case of militancy in 2003, but jumped parole two years later to rejoin JeM.

As the news of Tantray’s death spread, hundreds of residents shouting “Go, India, go back!” spilt onto the streets, throwing stones and clashing with Indian forces who fired tear gas and pellet guns.

At least six protesters were injured, a police officer said.

-----Snipped-----

Since 1989 groups including JeM have been fighting Indian troops and police deployed in the Himalayan territory. They seek its merger with Pakistan or its independence.

The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians, dead.

Violence had steadily decreased during the last decade but this year some 350 deaths have been reported following the Indian army’s anti-militant offensive dubbed “Operation All-Out”.

Officials and rights groups say 210 suspected rebels, mostly locals, 57 civilians and 82 troops or police have been killed this year.

http://www.dailyexcelsior.com/miscreant ... ers-house/

as a result of this appeasement policy of the Central Govt and State Govt the terroists are emboldened to the extent that they attack a local Shiv Sena workers residence and plant a Paki flag on his house. This is happening in Jammu the Winter Capital of J&K.

Some miscreants pelted stones on the house of a Shiv Sena leader in Shanti Puram area of Lower Roop Nagar. However, Domana police has registered a case in this regard.
As per police sources, some miscreants pelted stones on the house of General Secretary of Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thakrey Manish Sahni in Shanti Puram area of Lower Roop Nagar.
The miscreants also installed a Pakistani flag on the gate of the leader’s house.

J&K CRPF camp attack: Late night assault took jawans by surprise - ToI
Two pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit stormed in to a CRPF camp of 185th battalion at Lethpora in Awantipora of Pulwama district last night, killing four jawans. Both attackers were killed in retaliatory action. Hunt is on for a suspected third terrorist, a local, who is believed to be holed up in some nearby building.

Two heavily armed JeM terrorists attacked the camp at about 2 am, said Inspector General of CRPF Ravideep Sahi . The encounter lasted almost 14 hours.

The Pakistani 'fidayeens' carrying UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher) and other automatic weapons entered the camp in the dead of night, taking the jawans by surprise. They threw grenades and opened fire on the sleeping men, before being challenged.

One of deceased was identified as constable Saif-ud-din Ganai of Nowgam in Srinagar.

The IG further said, the exchange of fire went on till afternoon on Sunday. IG Ravi said, this was deadliest Fidayeen attack by the Pakistani terrorists in recent times.

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility for the Fidayeen attack on Lethpora CRPF camp. A statement issued to local media said the "blood of martyrs is yielding results".

"Talha Rasheed, Mohammad Bhai, commander Noor Mohammad Tantray and all other martyrs of Kashmir are not heirless. Such attacks will continue till the last Indian soldier leaves Kashmir," it said.

Looks like we had killed quite a few of JeM men in our last cross border raid that officially killed three Pakistani soldiers and a score of JeM pigs. This may be an opportune revenge attack that indirectly confirms our successful hit a few days ago.

A direct hit on a JeM camp and confirmed 20-30 heads will be a befitting response.

All of the above or atleast couple of those first line of defense should be in place along with reinforced bulletproof sleeping pads and watch towers manned with snipers.

Some of these sensors e.g. proximity ones are dirt cheap now. All they need is working electric line running around the fence connected to light and alarm which when active the light goes on along with alarm as soon as an object is within few feets of it. If a country needs to spend 50 lakh defending it's soldiers it should not think of the capital cost associated with the defense of those who defend us. Babu's ought to remember that ever life lost is a family shattered and big loss to nation.

There may be some legal issue in building permanent perimeter structures and as usual we are needlessly over sensitive to such effing mundane issues.

Why no concrete walls, even after decades of operations??

does anybody know??

BTW, some reports suggest that the retaliation was to avenge the death of some paki VIP jehadi's son, Talhr Rasheed, the nephew of Jaish chief Masood Azhar.

Centre sanctions construction of 14,000 bunkers along LoC, International Border

JAMMU: Over 14,000 community and individual bunkers would be constructed along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) for border residents facing Pakistani shelling + in Jammu division, officials said on Sunday.

While 7298 bunkers would be constructed along the LoC in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, 7162 underground bunkers would be constructed along the IB in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, the officials said here.

The Centre recently sanctioned the construction of 14,460 individual and community bunkers at a cost of Rs 415.73 crore for people living along the LoC and IB.

A total of 13,029 individual bunkers and 1431 community bunkers were being constructed, the officials said, adding that the capacity of the 160 square feet individual bunker was eight people, and that of the 800 square feet community bunker was 40 people.

The officials said 4918 individual and 372 community bunkers would be constructed in Rajouri, and 3076 individual and 243 community bunkers would come up in Kathua district.

A total of 688 community and 1320 individual bunkers would be constructed in Poonch, Jammu would get 1200 individual and 120 community bunkers, and 2515 individual and eight community bunkers would be constructed in Samba district, they said.

India shares a 3,323km long border with Pakistan, of which 221km of the IB and 740km of the LoC fall in Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 35 people -- 19 Army personnel, 12 civilians and four BSF personnel -- were killed in ceasefire violations by Pakistan last year alone.

Senior BJP leader and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma welcomed the move by the Centre. "It is indeed a matter of joy and satisfaction for the people of border villages that the Centre has sanctioned construction of bunkers and approved relief and compensation for various property and livestock losses due to cross-border firing," Sharma said here.

The MP expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for acceding to the demands of people living in border villages.

Its probably not about money, but more to do with building a wall being seen as conceding that as a defacto international boundary. May be the army/civies wants to keep the boundary ambiguous for now, more so now with a nationalistic govt at center.

I will be vary of those terrorist supporting residents using this as weapons storage or hideout for them.

They should instead be using this money to protect soldiers and providing better facilities for rehabilitation of injured ones and their relatives. At best bunkers should be provided to those who agree to be informers and cooperative to state and made to sign that they will be charged under terrorism law in case country finds them using bunkers for anti national interests.

No country would be stupid enough to bomb their own informers. Indian army operating in these front areas have a very good handle on things. What better way to win hearts than to provide bunkers from the enemy fire?

Hizbul commander Naikoo threatens to blind panchayat poll candidates in Jammu and Kashmir with acid
A Hizbul Mujahideen commander in an audio clip has threatened to use acid against those contesting in panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir that are to be held next month.
Riyaz Naikoo, who is based in south Kashmir, is seen telling another of the outfit’s south Kashmir commanders, Sameer Tiger that a few drops of acid should be poured into the eyes of those who contest panchayat elections. Naikoo says the contestants will become a burden for their families.
“This time we will force them to reveal the names of those people who force them to contest elections.”

How would Indian Army know which residents are supporting terrorist and thereby will not allow terrorist to store their weapons of hide in them versus those who will be grateful to Indian Army. I think we should intelligent enough by knowing 1300 years of history that no amount of money, goodwill or help will turn Malsi into good citizens in areas where they are majority. Only constant burning of their backside as China does helps to keep fire under control.

Goodwill may work for 95 percent of bunker owners but what about those 5 percent who will be puki sleepers and will eventually lead to death of a valiant soldier down the line in future. Who is responsible if it is established that one of the suar who attacked and killed soldier actually was hiding in those bunkers built by Army as part of goodwill..

I don't take the slogans "Army has good handle on things" literally. There is always room for improvement otherwise our intelligence apparatus could have nabbed every terrorist crossing the line.

Pak anthem row: Independent MLA marshalled out of J&K Assembly

JAMMU: An independent MLA from Langate in Jammu & Kashmir kicked up a row during the assembly proceedings by saying there is nothing wrong in playing the Pakistani national anthem in the valley.

The uproar began when Bandipora legislator Usman Majeed urged the J&K government to "pardon" the young cricketers, who were arrested two days ago for playing the neighbouring country's national anthem before the start of a cricket match in Bandipora.

But, his appeal was cut short by independent MLA Engineer Rasheed, who said, "What sin have the youth committed if they played Pakistani anthem during their match... Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had been seeking votes for last eight years by displaying green clothes. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed thanked Pakistan and militants for his victory in the elections. An FIR
should be registered against Mehbooba if you have registered FIR against the cricketers."

Rasheed, who got into a verbal spat with some BJP members, blamed "misgovernance" for such incidents. He also attempted to enter the well of the House, following which he was marshalled out on orders of speaker Kavinder Gupta.

^^ The people of the valley are a lost cause.

I wonder how can they ever be brought back into the fold ( other than the boot as being used currently)

^^Big stick and no carrot for a decade, to compensate for the small stick and big carrot they have gotten used to. For far too long we have accomodated Hurriyat traiters and their ilk. We should realize now is the time to decimate/subdue these traitors

The reason appears there has never been serious effort to take control of Kashmir issue before this. The issues were subcontracted to a few leaders who made it worse. The way valley is today can only be solved if ground is changed. Punishing Maulvis, Madrassas and their venom. Taking very serious note of anyone playing Pakistani national anthem or displaying their flags. Such inches granted today would become miles of problems, a repeat of what happened in 70's. Worst comes to worst - the valley should be treated as a land taken over by an enemy that needed assimilation and if needed cut all their subsidies, finances and awarding handsomely to other regions. There has to be a prize to be won and there has to be a cost to be paid between being pro or anti India on an Indian land.

In another 50 years we'll lose Ladakh and Jammu. With the influx of Muslims into these adjoining territories we've pretty much limited our political and security flexibility. Punjabi men are already marrying Kashmiri women in PoK which will further consolidate Pakistan's hold over PoK.

Five militants terrorists killed as Army foils infiltration bid in Uri - PTI
Security forces on Monday, January 15, 2018, foiled an infiltration bid near the Line of Control in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing five Jaish-e-Mohammad militants terrorists.

Defence spokesman said that five militants terrorists were killed.

Earlier, Director General of Police S P Vaid said four JeM militants terrorists were killed at Dulanja in Uri sector in a joint operation by the Army, police and other security forces.

“Three suicidal JeM terrorists killed in Dulanja Uri while infiltrating in a joint operation by @JmuKmrPolice/Army/ CAPF.Search for the other terrorists is still on,” Mr. Vaid said in a tweet.

The DGP later updated that the fifth militant terrorist has also been killed.
It is clear that the DGP is using the correct terminology. Either the PTI correspondent or The Hindu is using the diluted substitute.
