Uh, I'm not sure of what you mean? Corbyn literally made a public statement against India.

I see BoJo's foreign office merely pandering for votes in a possible snap election after Oct 31. They can also kiss their deal goodbye.

UK has shown a repeated pattern of anti-India stance in last few months.

The jeopardizing the Indian origin people a the High Commission is quite deplorable.
And could be malicious.

Jab geedar ki maut aati hai tab wo sheher ki taraf bhagta hai.

BoJo goremint is heading straight for a No-Deal Brexit on October 31st.

Half the population of UK is die-hard pro-Brexit at any cost. The other half is fanatically opposed to it. The polarization is so deep and evenly split that there are no clear vote-banks to be profitably courted amongst the native population of Britain... appealing to one side will cost a party every single voter from the other side.

The only electoral hope for both the Tories and Labour is the 8% peaceful population. Both will pander to this section as ardently as possible.

Externally, the UK sees itself becoming the sort of pariah that only China would embrace. The EU despises them. The US cares nothing for them. Russia laughs at them. So the only route available is to cosy up to the leprous Chinese bloc, alongside equally respectable nation-states like North Korea, Albania, and Zimbabwe.

Labour is worse than Conservatives but as the UK shenanigans in UNSC showed, Conservatives are no friend of India either. Thats what i meant.

Rudra-ji, situation is a bit more nuanced than that. Basically, the Muslims will vote for Labour, and actually it’s the Hindu / Sikh vote that can swing in either direction. Not that Hindus / Sikhs vote as a religious block, whereas Muslims tend to do so much more.

A few topics to consider:

1) Boris Johnson is on the record as describing hijab / niqab wearing Muslim ladies as resembling a “letter box” or a “bank robber”. The Tories even gave BoJo a clean chit for this stuff. Can’t make it up.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 93761.html
Boris Johnson has been cleared of breaching the Conservative Party’s code of conduct by comparing veiled Muslim women to letter boxes and bank robbers.

An independent panel decided the former foreign secretary was “respectful and tolerant” and was entitled to use “satire” in his newspaper column in August.

The investigation was triggered following complaints that his remarks in The Daily Telegraph were Islamophobic and offensive.
2) BoJo has earlier today done some serious grovelling to PM Modi

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ind ... 761211.cms
The Modi-Johnson conversation comes a day after TOI quoted UK diplomatic sources saying Britain did not back China or Pakistan at the closed-door UNSC meeting about Kashmir last week. Earlier, there was buzz on social media that UK supported China. That created a great deal of anger in the Indian government. However, the Johnson-Modi conversation is believed to have cleared the air.

A Downing Street spokesperson said after the telephonic talk: “The prime minister and Prime Minister Modi discussed the current situation in Kashmir. The prime minister made it clear that the UK views the issue of Kashmir is one for India and Pakistan to resolve bilaterally. He underlined the importance of resolving issues through dialogue.”
3) BoJo has just appointed three Hindus to his Cabinet: Priti Patel (Home Secretary), Alok Sharma (International Development Secretary), Rishi Sunak (Chief Secretary to the Treasury). Priti Patel in particular will ruffle Muslim feathers, as she is strongly pro PM Modi, pro Israel, etc.

4) The Tory party is accused of Islamophobia by its own prominent Muslim members:

https://www.itv.com/news/2019-03-05/war ... ory-party/
A senior Tory peer has called for an independent inquiry into "institutional" Islamophobia in the Conservative party.

Former minister Baroness Warsi has warned the party’s failure to address the issue within its ranks risked damaging the party's chances at the next election.

Lady Warsi, who was the first Muslim woman to have a seat at the Cabinet table, said there is a "deep-rooted problem" in the party and Theresa May has failed to act.
5) The Labour Party leader, Mr. Corbyn, on the other hand, has been endorsed by Hamas. Can’t make it up.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/hamas-tha ... y-support/
Hamas said the Labour leader expressed “support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to freedom, independence and self-determination.”

The terror group also praised him for condemning “the ongoing occupation and its crimes against our people,” and said his statement “reflects an advanced moral and political position worthy of all praise and thanks.”

The Labour leader has in the past been criticized for calling terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah “friends” when inviting members for a parliamentary meeting in 2009. He later downplayed the comment and said he regretted using the term.
So, if a person was looking to vote based on religion, Labour would be the Muslim choice, I think.

Not just UK, most of Europe, even Denmark, muslims outnumber others in prisons as a percentage relative to their numbers in the general population.

Here is some data on prison numbers as percentage of general population around the world. Note the maximum are in the US and so called developed nations. India ranks really low. The data is from different years and may not be accurate, some of it is over a decade old, but the trends are obvious. Of course this does not give any breakdown within the country itself.

Breaking: UK formally says it "did not support any UNSC statement" after UNSC consultative meet last friday; adds, India Pak issues should be resolved bilaterally & "neither do we seek to mediate."
Added Later: Looks like the UK waited for a while before issuing a clarification. Both the delay and the clarification are significant.
1. The felt compelled to issue the clarification.
2. The delay was to gauge the reaction of the valley. It can only mean that If the news from the valley had been bad the statement would have been different.

Note to self: Brits$shit are still playing games.

OPEN RELATIONSHIP Inside Lord Mountbatten and wife Edwina’s scandalous marriage with bed-hopping, ‘threesomes’ and gay affairs - Alison Maloney

HE was a dashing prince and she was hailed as ‘the most beautiful woman in England’, so when Louis and Edwina Mountbatten walked down the aisle, in 1922, it was the society wedding of the decade.

But behind closed doors, their 38-year marriage was far from perfect – with Lord Mountbatten once admitting: “Edwina and I spent all our married lives getting into other people’s beds.”

A stunning but highly-strung socialite, Edwina - who was named the sixth best dressed woman in the world at the time - had at least 18 lovers including Indian Prime Minister Nehru and singer Leslie 'Hutch' Hutchinson, who she once gifted a jewel-encrusted penis sheath.

She was said to be sexually obsessed, once being 'thrusted' across a banquet table during a romp with one lover.

Lord Mountbatten - who Prince Louis is widely-believed to be named after - was ‘devastated’ by her infidelity in the early days of their marriage.

But realising he had little choice in the matter, he began taking lovers of his own, too.

Yesterday, FBI documents from the 1940s revealed shocking claims that Mountbatten - who was murdered by an IRA bomb 40 years ago this month - was secretly “a homosexual with a perversion for young boys.”

In the documents, the couple are described as “persons of extremely low morals” and many have suggested both were bisexual - a huge taboo at the time.

Here, we delve into their controversial marriage.

The great-grandson of Queen Victoria, Mountbatten – the uncle of Prince Philip – was born in 1900 at Frogmore House, Windsor as Prince Louis of Battenberg, a title he lost when he and other royals dropped Germanic names during World War I.

By the time he met 20-year-old Edwina Ashley, in 1920, she was a leading light in London society with an inheritance of £2million (equivalent to£53m today) from her grandfather, financier Ernest Cassel, to fund her party lifestyle.

Their wedding, at St Margaret’s chapel, Westminster, attracted a crowd of 8,000 and was attended by many members of the royal family including Queen Mary, Queen Alexandra and the then Prince of Wales – the future Edward VIII.

Both were virgins when they wed but Edwina soon revealed her love of sex when she asked to go to Paris on their honeymoon so they could explore “the most awful places we could find”.

Louis found sex less appealing, calling it a "mixture of psychology and hydraulics."

He was so awkward in bed he was said to have named her breasts Mutt and Jeff - naval slang for medals.

Louis - affectionately known by his family as Dickie - was often away with the navy and cracks began to show in their marriage after the birth of their first daughter, Patricia, in 1924.

Edwina was so jealous of the attention the baby got that she packed her off to a nanny the South Coast and embarked on a series of affairs.

She soon surrounded herself with a harem of lovers she referred to as “ginks” – including Lord Molyneux, a rich American polo player called Laddie Sandford and newspaper editor Mike Wardell.

Daughter Pamela Hicks later revealed that several admirers were often in tow at the same time, and even had to be kept apart at the family home, Broom House in Park Lane.

“When my mother returned from shopping one day she was met with, 'Mr Larry Gray is in the drawing room, Mr Sandford is in the library, Mr Ted Phillips is in the boudoir, Señor Portago [is] in the anteroom and I don’t know what to do with Mr Molyneux’,” she wrote.

Divorce, especially within the Royal family, was frowned upon and Pamela said the fallout was “messy and complex.”

“When my father first heard that she had taken a lover, he was devastated,” she said. “But eventually, using their reserves of deep mutual affection, my parents managed to negotiate a way through this crisis and found a modus vivendi (way of life).”

The pair agreed to a ‘discreet’ open marriage and Pamela said that her father’s “total desire for my mother’s happiness” was what made the marriage work.

When her husband was posted to Malta, in the early 1930s, Edwina enjoyed a fling with American golfer Bobby Sweeney.

For his part, in 1931, Dickie began to flirt with 18-year-old Margaret Whigham, the future Duchess Of Argyll – who became notorious for her own sex scandal in 1963, when she was photographed performing a sex act on an unknown man.

He finally entered into a long term affair with Yola Letellier, the 'boyish' Frenchwoman who inspired Colette's 1944 novella, Gigi.

'Scandal that shook society to its very depth'

But the biggest scandal of the couple’s marriage was about to break.

In 1932, a newspaper reported that one of the “leading hostesses in the country” was enjoying a steamy affair with a black man – a huge taboo in 1930s British society.

It's reported that pair were the “talk of the West End” and the scandal had “shaken society to its very depth”, causing the woman to be “exiled” by royal command.

The woman was soon identified as Edwina – who had recently joined her husband in Malta – and the man was wrongly thought to be singer and activist Paul Robeson.

The Mountbattens were ordered home to sue the paper by Buckingham Palace.

After a court case held in secret, the paper finally apologised and offered “genuine and deep regrets”.

But many believe Edwina’s real lover was the suave and famously well-endowed West Indian cabaret singer and pianist, Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, who was becoming notorious for bedding society women.

The bisexual entertainer - who had "lost his childhood innocence" when his father took him to a brothel at the age of 14 - had arrived in London in the 20s after being discovered by Cole Porter.

BBC producer Bobby Jay told Hutch’s biographer, Charlotte Breese, he had witnessed the pair’s brazen behaviour at a party.

“Edwina interrupted Hutch playing the piano,” he says. “She kissed his neck and led him by the hand behind the closed doors of the dining-room. There was a shriek, and a few minutes later she returned, straightening her clothes.

“Hutch seemed elated, and before he returned to the piano, told me that, with one thrust, he had flashed [propelled] her the length of the dining-room table.”

Lady Mountbatten was said to be so besotted that she showered him with gifts, including a jewelled gold cigarette case, a gold ring engraved with her coat of arms, a gold and diamond watch and – outrageously – a Cartier, jewel-encrusted penis sheath.

One disputed story surrounding the pair was that they were once locked in a sexual position when Edwina suffered from vaginismus - a condition that makes the vagina clamp around a penis - and the couple had to be separated at hospital.

One night, an inebriated Mountbatten fell into Quaglino’s restaurant and told the bandleader, Van Straten: “I am lonely and sad and drunk... Hutch has a p**** like a tree-trunk, and he’s f****** my wife right now.”

Although he was cast out of royal circles over the scandal, Hutch would go on to put another two royal notches on his bedpost, enjoying a fling with Princess Marina and, allegedly, with Princess Margaret in 1955, when she was 25 and he was 55.

Bizarrely, on Hutch's death in 1969, Mountbatten rang the funeral directors offering to pay for his headstone and grave in Highgate Cemetery.

After the court case Edwina moved on to Colonel Harold ‘Bunny Phillips’ of the Coldstream Guard who she met on a cruise - after allegedly bedding his older brother Ted.

He was 6ft 5in and “thrillingly handsome” according to Pamela, who was nine when they met.

“He would stay with us for long periods of time and, to us children, he was part of everyday life.”

In 1947, Lord Mountbatten was appointed Viceroy of India and charged with overseeing the country’s transition to India and the couple moved to Delhi.

There, Edwina was to find her most enduring love affair - with Indian Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru who, at 58, was ten years her senior.

Pamela later said her father condoned the relationship, called them a “happy threesome.”

As Mountbatten himself wrote to his daughter Patricia, “She and Jawaharlal (Nehru) are so sweet together, they really dote on each other.”

Some believe the couple also indulged in threesomes, as Dickie tried to rekindle the spark with Edwina.

When the Mountbattens left India, in 1948, Edwina would return to visit yearly and Nehru would make an annual trip to London whenever she was there.

In between, they wrote long love letters to each other.

As Edwina became increasingly close to Nehru, new rumours were beginning to circulate about Lord Mountbatten.

The FBI had interviewed several people who claimed the naval commander was bisexual, with one claiming he had a fetish for “young boys”.

The first FBI files date back to February 1944, soon after Mountbatten had become supreme allied commander of southeast Asia.

It reads: "Lord Louis Mountbatten and his wife are considered persons of extremely low morals.

It also said there were claims that "Lord Louis Mountbatten was known to be a homosexual with a perversion for young boys."

Homosexual acts were banned in the UK until 1967, and many memos about Mountbatten's sexuality have been edited or destroyed since.

But in the new book – The Mountbattens: Their Lives and Loves - Anthony Daly, a rent boy to the rich and famous during the 1970s, claims Dickie’s friend Tom Driberg, told him, that “Mountbatten had something of a fetish for uniforms — handsome young men in military uniforms (with high boots) and beautiful boys in school uniform.”

Ron Perks, Mountbatten’s driver in Malta in 1948, also told author Lownie he often took him to the Red House near Rabat, which “was an upmarket gay brothel used by senior naval officers”.

Image

Edwina died in 1960, at the age of 58, from unknown causes - with a pile of Nehru's letters by her bed - and Pamela said Dickie remained loyal to the end.

“To her dying day, he was always worrying that Mummy would divorce him,” she wrote. “But although she said she had no time for royalty and that she was a true socialist, Mummy would never have left him.

Lord Mountbatten was assassinated in an IRA bomb attack in 1979 in Ireland , that also killed his his 14-year-old grandson Nicholas, Patricia’s mother-in-law Lady Bradbourne and a 15-year-old crew member, Paul Maxwell.

Lord Mountbatten was ‘a homosexual with a perversion for young boys’ FBI files claim.

I remarked on this many years ago.

I think it has to do with concepts of shame. For Hindus and Sikhs, prison is shameful, for one's self and also for one's family.
Essayist Theodore Dalrymple: https://www.city-journal.org/html/when- ... 12512.html
One sign of the increasing weakness of Islam’s hold over its nominal adherents in Britain—of which militancy is itself but another sign—is the throng of young Muslim men in prison. They will soon overtake the young men of Jamaican origin in their numbers and in the extent of their criminality. By contrast, young Sikhs and Hindus are almost completely absent from prison, so racism is not the explanation for such Muslim overrepresentation.

Confounding expectations, these prisoners display no interest in Islam whatsoever; they are entirely secularized. True, they still adhere to Muslim marriage customs, but only for the obvious personal advantage of having a domestic slave at home. Many of them also dot the city with their concubines—sluttish white working-class girls or exploitable young Muslims who have fled forced marriages and do not know that their young men are married. This is not religion, but having one’s cake and eating it.

The young Muslim men in prison do not pray; they do not demand halal meat. They do not read the Qu’ran. They do not ask to see the visiting imam. They wear no visible signs of piety: their main badge of allegiance is a gold front tooth, which proclaims them members of the city’s criminal subculture—a badge (of honor, they think) that they share with young Jamaicans, though their relations with the Jamaicans are otherwise fraught with hostility. The young Muslim men want wives at home to cook and clean for them, concubines elsewhere, and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. As for Muslim proselytism in the prison—and Muslim literature has been insinuated into nooks and crannies there far more thoroughly than any Christian literature—it is directed mainly at the Jamaican prisoners. It answers their need for an excuse to go straight, while not at the same time surrendering to the morality of a society they believe has wronged them deeply. Indeed, conversion to Islam is their revenge upon that society, for they sense that their newfound religion is fundamentally opposed to it. By conversion, therefore, they kill two birds with one stone.

But Islam has no improving or inhibiting effect upon the behavior of my city’s young Muslim men, who, in astonishing numbers, have taken to heroin, a habit almost unknown among their Sikh and Hindu contemporaries. The young Muslims not only take heroin but deal in it, and have adopted all the criminality attendant on the trade.

What I think these young Muslim prisoners demonstrate is that the rigidity of the traditional code by which their parents live, with its universalist pretensions and emphasis on outward conformity to them, is all or nothing; when it dissolves, it dissolves completely and leaves nothing in its place. The young Muslims then have little defense against the egotistical licentiousness they see about them and that they all too understandably take to be the summum bonum of Western life.

Peregrineji,
Regarding dashing young men in uniform and Lord Mountbottom's facination with them, please read "Once a Prince of Sarila" by Narendra Singh Sarila. The book has a picture of Mr. Sarila, who was appointed as an ADC to the Viceroy, in full dress uniform of the Viceroy to get an official portrait drawn. To save time he donned the viceregal uniform and preliminary drawings were made and then the lords face was inserted. There were many such men in India, but Mr. Sarila cut such a dashing figure. Bound to have attracted the viceroy to have him offer the job to him.

I am surprised at lack of protest from our side? How could the brit ba$tards let it happen? Would they have reacted similarly if it were US consulate? And those people whose ancestors converted for 4rs change or due to the fear of sword can't face us where it matters i.e. Indo Pak border, but feel superior by attacking women and children using frozen potatoes?

I think we should tweet our govt (mea and pmo) and put some pressure for visible action. It's the least the GoI could do for those who were on the ground that day.

That's the thing, it happened at Indian Consulate. GoI will be more than aware of this, wonder why they didn't lodge a public protest at cavalier response by londonistan police.

That was quick. Boris J loses majority.
Veteran lawmaker Ken Clarke explains it all
Kenneth Clarke, a veteran lawmaker, has delivered a long speech in favor of the motion, saying Parliament must stand up and block a no-deal Brexit.
He argued that Britain must stay closely aligned with the European Union, its biggest trading partner, following Brexit, and dismissed the claims that anyone who tried to stop a no-deal Brexit was trying to reverse the result of the referendum.
"I voted for Brexit three times," he said, referring to the fact that he supported the withdrawal agreement negotiated by Boris Johnson's predecessor Theresa May. Clarke also mocked those who argue that the UK will be fine exiting the EU without a future deal and trading on World Trade Organization terms. “North Korea is doing just fine with no deal in trade with anywhere else and operating under WTO rules,” he said sarcastically to roars of laughter in the chamber. Clarke is well-respected by all sides in Parliament. He has served in a number of senior cabinet posts, including as the treasury chief and the home secretary, and is the current "Father of the House" -- a title given to the longest-serving member of Parliament.
So what does it mean? The Brish1t Empyah goes on her knees b4 the Queen of the 1000-year Reich, begging bowl in hand? What "deal" are the Oiropeans going to offer them at this time?

Kashmir protests get ugly again in London
LONDON: About 10,000 British Pakistanis descended on London on Tuesday in hundreds of coaches from across the UK and proceeded to smash windows of the Indian High Commission and cause chaos on the streets of the British capital for the second time in weeks.
Members of the Indian diaspora did not hold a counter-protest. The Kashmir Freedom March went from Parliament Square to the High Commission building led by some UK Labour MPs. Protesters carried Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) flags and placards saying, ‘Stop shelling in Kashmir’ and shouted “We want freedom”.
Protesters, who were mainly British Pakistanis and British people with roots in POK, said they were there to mark 30 days since the lockdown in Kashmir that commenced following defanging of Article 370.
As there were no people to target, the crowd hurled hundreds of eggs, tomatoes, shoes, stones, smoke bombs and bottles at the Indian high commission building and smashed several of its windows. The High Commission of India tweeted photos of the damage to its premises.

London mayor Pakistani-origin Sadiq Khan tweeted: “I utterly condemn this unacceptable behaviour.”

@HCI_London I utterly condemn this unacceptable behaviour and have raised this incident with @metpoliceuk to take action.
— Sadiq Khan (@SadiqKhan) 1567533847000

This is the second time in less than a month that the Indian mission in London has been targeted by unruly protesters.
On August 15, protesters carrying Khalistani and Kashmiri flags tried to push forward across police lines and threw objects, targeting members of the Indian diaspora who were peacefully celebrating Independence Day at the high commission. Hundreds of thugs and hooligans were among the protesters, made up predominantly of British Pakistanis, Pakistani Kashmiris and pro-Khalistan Sikhs.

They threw eggs, glass bottles, shoes, plastic bottles and other objects at the crowd who had gathered for the Independence Day event.
Many, including women and children, had to take refuge in the building till riot police arrived and provided them with a safe passage.

EU to declare a no-deal Brexit a major natural disaster
Move allows release of £544m from emergency fund set aside for storms and earthquakes

aniel Boffey and Jennifer Rankin in Brussels, Tue 3 Sep 2019
The EU executive will on Wednesday call for the release of nearly €600m (£544m) from an emergency fund for storms and earthquakes as it declares Brexit could be a “major disaster”.
The European commission will propose dipping into a solidarity fund created in 2002 to help member states deal with natural disasters such as floods, storms, volcanic eruptions and forest fires.
Brexit is a “singular event” that “could constitute a major disaster and therefore the activation of the solidarity principle, which is the core of the [fund], would be justified,” states a copy of the proposal seen by the Guardian.
Further money will be available from the EU’s “globalisation adjustment fund”, intended to support workers who lose their jobs when factories go bust. If the UK crashes out of the EU without a deal on 31 October, there will be a “significant impact on trade patterns, growth and jobs,” the document states.
Member states from the 27 governments will have to approve the revised spending plans before the end of October.
The proposal highlights the contrast between the preparations being made by the EU and those of the UK government, which has been criticised for underplaying the likely economic damage caused by no deal. The Irish government has already been promised extra cash if the UK crashes out without a deal. The country’s central bank warned this year that a no-deal Brexit could result in 34,000 fewer jobs in Ireland by the end of next year and more than 100,000 over the medium term. But countries including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Spain will also face severe challenges in the parts of their economy most reliant on British trade.
On Monday Austria’s foreign minister, Alexander Schallenberg, said the bloc would keep open the possibility of an extension to the UK’s membership beyond 31 October. Schallenberg said: “Of course our thread of patience doesn’t go on forever. But in the past two years, we have put in a lot of energy to make an orderly exit possible. Secondly, a disorderly exit would have many consequences that we can not foresee in its entirety when it comes to financial flows and services.

Don’t buy the bluff. Here’s the truth about no-deal Brexit
Anand Menon, Tue 3 Sep 2019
From trade to data, new research by The UK in a Changing Europe outlines the real consequences of crashing out
No-deal Brexit has never loomed larger than in the current moment. Boris Johnson has said that Britain will leave the European Union on 31 October. His entire political strategy is based on the credibility of his threat to follow through, regardless of whether he has come to an agreement with the remaining 27 members. As a result, the need to understand what no deal may mean in practice has become increasingly urgent.
At the UK in a Changing Europe, we have tried to address this: our report on it is out on Wednesday. We don’t have any inside information. We’re not privy to material that others do not have. But we do have a team of scholars who have spent their careers studying the relationship between the UK and the EU, and so are well placed to consider the potential implications if the UK were to leave in this manner.
It doesn’t make for comforting reading. Johnson is set to present no deal as an opportunity for closure – a “let’s just get it over with” moment. But there’s a stark difference between the relative clarity of what no deal means in legal terms and what it might actually herald in practice. It is not a neat way of resolving a complex problem. On the contrary, it is a way of rendering a complex problem infinitely more so.
Legally, the UK will cease to be a member state, EU laws will cease to apply, and the UK will be treated like a “third country” by the union. A deal would have meant a transition period during which trade would continue as now while the two sides negotiated a future relationship. No deal means a cliff edge; the full panoply of checks and tariffs will be imposed on our exports to the EU, and cross-border trade in services will face new restrictions. So trade with the EU will become more difficult and more costly, with those costs being potentially catastrophic for smaller companies that do not have the margins to absorb them.
But beyond these direct impacts, much is uncertain. How will households and businesses react? Will there be a broader collapse in business and consumer confidence, hitting demand and investment, or will consumers, as they have in the past, shrug off short-term shocks? And more broadly, what will the political dynamics of no deal look like?
.....
But perhaps the biggest and most dangerous unknown is what happens on the island of Ireland. The UK government has said it will not apply checks and tariffs at the Irish border – a stance which is at odds with its commitments under, inter alia, WTO rules. The EU, however, has made it clear it intends to apply the rules, though whether all checks will be imposed from day one is less obvious. Both sides are likely to blame the other, with unforeseeable political and economic consequences.
Over the longer term, the economy will adjust. But there will be a significant cost. Our earlier research, which analysed the effects of trading with the EU on WTO terms, found that after 10 years this would reduce the UK’s per-capita income by between 3.5% and 8.7%; other credible analyses come to much the same conclusion.
......

This looks like a major "Cock up" in every way, to use a Brit slang. IMHO we might be seeing the end of the illusion of UK as a world power. This illusion was continued after 1945, then after 1947. But we have come to the end of that road now.

^^^ Behind a paywall, but this sentence from there is relevant:
{Boris} Johnson’s rhetoric, if not quite imagining a rebirth of the Raj, is filled with all manner of fantasies about Britain reclaiming its great power role on the global stage if only it can throw off the shackles of the EU.

given the way things are in UK, it might well be a possibiity...organized group violence is rarely a spur of the moment incident..it is gradually testing small pieces (read small incidents) and then a sudden deluge by a single incident (read riot)..the knife attacks in london are almost a daily news...i wont be surprised if it comes to that....the fact is that all other communities are exposed..and this problem is compounded by the fact that police has been heavily infiltrated by folks of the special community. They are very organized, outnumbered and have little to lose in such incidents..basically the same story as in India...
