These sudden spurt of racism articles about Meghan lady seems like some edgy marketing ploy devised some Canary a wharf MBA, to generate some revenue out of the royal inbreds. I was hoping that Britains’ weirdest tourist attraction will finally have some human looking specimens, thanks to this marriage, instead of the usual snaggle-toothed, splay footed genetic abominations caused by incestual weddings over centuries.

If a promiscuous LA family of east European origin can generate a billion dollar based on a fat bottom, a nookie-clip, a sour-faced rapper and a former Olympic decathalate sporting a cleft benis, why not a reality-tv/instagram influencer introduction of these two ? :D

I have some respect for the Harry dude (corrected from Andrew), because he at least opted for military service unlike most others and did marry a woman who is not white or mere eye candy (like his dad or elder bro). Hope he makes some money by himself and donate it to a Jallianwala Bagh memorial fund. Baby steps

Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds) is dead. RIP. In Yes (Prime) Minister, his tortured dilemmas owing to his split loyalties to his political master and the civil service were hilarious. His pedagogic analysis of casual metaphors was even more so. There'll never be another like him.

Just read that Derek Fowlds has died. Excellent in Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister. And had one of the best lines in sitcom history when they discussed newspaper readers on Yes Prime Minister.

RIP Derek Fowlds.Great actor. Loved his squashed soul character between Sir Humphrey and Min.Hacker.

Good riddance to the parasite prince and princess. For a military man,it was mutiny. Verdict of a court- martial would've been guilty, shot at dawn. I strongly disagree with you. Prince Harry did exactly what he needed to do. He realized that there was no purpose to being a prince further when the line continuance has been assured with Prince William's children. Prince Harry wanted to be his own man and be able to do the things that he wanted to do while earning his own keep. He should be commended. What royal duties are there besides just waving and nodding and making empty speeches? He wanted to do something productive.

Methinks you have fallen into the racist trap set by the British snobbish anachronistic elites. The British monarchy missed out the best thing that could have happened to them when they forced Prince Harry and Meghan out. Meghan earned her own keep and supported herself without anybody before she met Prince Harry. Prince Harry saw that independence and said, "You know what? time to earn my keep." That is to be admired and respected.

I could not say the same for Kate Middleton. She really didn't earn her own keep and lived on the largess of her family. She is the one who is a parasite.

While both Blacks (from the Caribbeans) and Indians have settled in the UK, there is an important difference between the two. The Blacks have lost their original religion and culture due to their forced sojourn in the Caribbean islands. For example, they belong to that brand of Protestant Christianity that is common in UK. They follow and admire the British culture and want to assimilate willingly into the British (White) society. Indians on the other hand are aloof in social settings and definitely do not want to intermarry with the local population. So, among the British population, specially the economically disadvantaged sections, there is a lot more of intermingling with the Blacks.

People hated him. People loved him. But people could never ignore him'
By SHOBHA WARRIERJanuary 23, 2020 10:30 IST
'The Congress party hated him because he had not gone to jail, he was not lathi charged, he had not gone on hunger strike.'
'They felt he had lived in London all his life and then he came to India and became an MP and a minister.'
A Chequered Brilliance, The Many Lives of V K Krishna Menon, Jairam Ramesh's latest book, profiles a brilliant man who modern India remembers only for his one failure.

V K Krishna Menon is perhaps one of the most misunderstood politicians in modern Indian history.
"He certainly did much to make himself misunderstood; his style, the manner of his speaking, the sarcasm... He was too brilliant for his own good. He didn't suffer fools kindly. He was idiosyncratic to the extreme," Ramesh tells Rediff.com's Shobha Warrier in the first of a two-part interview:
You start your book with the statement, 'This is a book on one of India's most compelling, consequential and controversial political personalities'. According to you, what made him compelling, consequential and controversial?
From 1930 till 1947, he was a one-man army for Indian Independence in England. He was the link between Jawaharlal Nehru and the (British) Labour Party. He was the indefatigable campaigner all over England for India's Independence. He, in my view did the most to make the idea of Indians independence acceptable to the Labour Party.
Of course, he was helped by his guru at the London School of Economics, Harold Laski. That was one reason he was consequential.
The second reason why he is consequential is because from 1947 till 1957, he was India's global envoy and the face of India in international forums.
He was Nehru's envoy and played a very important role in the United Nations on issues like Korea, Algeria, Cyprus, Suez. In 1955, he almost brought about rapprochement between Communist China and the USA.
The third reason why he was consequential is he was Nehru's soulmate. Ideologically, he was on the same wavelength as Nehru; they were both democratic socialists in every sense of the term.
Krishna Menon was the only man Nehru felt comfortable with in the Congress party. Both were English-educated, both left of centre, both good British and good Indians.
The only other person Nehru would have felt comfortable intellectually was Rajaji, but by the early 1950s, Rajaji had begun to drift apart. Then, Rajaji was in Madras and Nehru was in Delhi.
He is controversial because of his role in the 1962 India-China war debacle. When somebody asked him, 'Why does controversy always come to you?' He replied, 'Controversy moves towards me, I move in the same direction, and we meet half way through.'
He attracted controversy by what he said and by what he did; he attracted controversy by even his silences.
He is compelling because of his personality. He was a remarkably well-read person. He founded Pelican Books. He was a borough councillor in London and a municipal councillor in London for almost 14 years.
He was an intellectual who had the best of friends in British intellectual society. He was very close to the Mountbattens, probably closer to them than Nehru, and played a very important role in the negotiations leading to Partition.
He was contradictory also; he was a prisoner of his own insecurities and was always unsure of himself vis a vis Nehru, vis a vis the Congress party. Then, he handled himself with great amount of dignity.

He along with Nehru was also one of the initiators of the mistrust and growing distance between India and the US that ultimately led to the US becoming one of the benefactors of Pakistan and India becoming a Soviet ally.

To help the BBC learn what rape statistics look like in the UK.

https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk ... mber-2019/

In the year ending March 2019 alone there were 58,657 allegations of rape, but there were only 1,925 successful prosecutions.

ie 160 rapes per day in the UK, "allegedly" and only 5 daily convictions from a nation that wants to make movies in India about rape!

From SAS to merciless MERCENARIES: A new book tells the story of an elite band of ex-special forces who wreaked havoc around the world. Their calling card? A live grenade in a wine glass

By NEIL TWEEDIE FOR THE DAILY MAIL

PUBLISHED: 23:22 GMT, 31 January 2020 | UPDATED: 01:09 GMT, 1 February 2020

As Army tricks go, you would be hard-pressed to find one more devastating.

Take one old-style grenade, remove the pin and insert it delicately into a wine glass — so the glass holds down the lever to keep it from exploding.

Then throw the deadly cocktail from a helicopter. When the glass shatters, the lever will spring back and detonate the grenade.

Simple, cheap, indiscriminate and deadly, it was a favourite of a shadowy mercenary company which operated with impunity across the planet for years, making rich men of the former SAS officers who controlled it.

The targets of these ‘wine glass bombs’, along with waves of bullets fired from the machine guns mounted on the helicopters? Tamil guerrillas in Sri Lanka, supposedly.

Yet the victims were often women, children and the elderly — innocent civilians caught up in a brutal civil war that raged across the Indian Ocean state during the final decades of the 20th century.

KMS Ltd was the sober, business-like name of this private military company, which offered lessons in professional killing to those willing to pay for them.

But within the secretive international mercenary world (referred to by insiders as The Circuit), KMS was better known as Keenie Meenie, a name variously sourced to Arabic, for ‘covert operation’, and Swahili slang, for ‘the movement of a snake through the grass’.

Keen and mean in equal measure, KMS operated behind the scenes in the Seventies and Eighties in places as far flung as Sri Lanka, Nicaragua and Oman, usually with the tacit agreement of Her Majesty’s Government, doing jobs that would cause a diplomatic fall-out if carried out by regular troops.

KMS Ltd was the sober, business-like name of this private military company, which offered lessons in professional killing to those willing to pay for them. A live grenade in a wine glass is pictured above

‘I know this [wine glass tactic] was happening because I went to Trincomalee [a Sri Lankan port] and had lunch there and there were no wine glasses at all,’ says retired Lieutenant Colonel Richard Holworthy, defence attaché at the British High Commission in Sri Lanka from 1985 to 1987.

‘The whole bloody lot had been dropped on Tamils with grenades inside them!’

Indiscriminate bombing of the Tamils, who were seeking independence from the Sinhalese majority backed by Britain, was a feature of this dirtiest of wars.

Raging through the Eighties and beyond, the conflict was characterised by random massacres, torture and ‘necklacing’ — putting rubber tyres around the necks of prisoners then setting them alight.

‘The [Sri Lankan] air force was strafing, using rockets and, eventually, blanket bombing,’ says Lt Col Holworthy, who now lives in France.

‘They had no worry as to where they were dropping them. These were war crimes.’

Their deleterious impact is still felt to this day.

Now, a new book, Keenie Meenie: The British Mercenaries Who Got Away with War Crimes, by Phil Miller, lifts the lid on KMS’s activities and the men behind it — upstanding officers in the regular Army and patrons of London’s exclusive gentlemen’s clubs, where money-making plots were hatched over whisky in smoke-filled rooms.

They were not so gentlemanly, though, when it came to the business of privatised war.

‘KMS helicopter pilots were supposedly flying as co-pilots to Sri Lankan pilots,’ says Miller.

‘But often, when the shooting started, the British had to take control. They would sit in the helicopter on the ground while the soldiers they were carrying went off and committed atrocities.

‘But KMS was more than that. It was involved at a senior level in the military operations in Sri Lanka, helping to direct the war.

‘Senior KMS staff were complicit in atrocities and have never been held to account.’

One of the KMS helicopter pilots in Sri Lanka was Tim Smith, a former member of the Army Air Corps.

In need of money after leaving the force, he applied for a job with KMS and says one of those vetting him was a Ministry of Defence official.

Smith recounts how, during one anti-guerrilla mission, his Sri Lankan co-pilot machine-gunned a harmless old man on a push bike, simply on a whim.

He later wrote in his memoirs that KMS regarded anyone in the area following an attack on government forces as ‘in season’ — open to summary execution from the air or on the ground.

In another incident, a bus thought to be carrying insurgents, but actually full of women and children, was thoroughly peppered with bullets.

Image

A ‘Keenie Meenie’ instructor is pictured above teaching Sri Lankan Special Task Force recruits

As well as carrying out their own atrocities, KMS was contracted to teach Sri Lankan combatants about its dirty tactics.

It trained the Special Task Force (STF), a Sri Lankan paramilitary police unit responsible for numerous massacres, most notoriously in January 1987, when an army and STF contingent helicoptered into a prawn farm near the village of Kokkadichcholai in a dawn raid and allegedly murdered 85 people.

Many of the bodies, including those of teenage boys, were thrown into a well.

But KMS’s murky tentacles of death weren’t simply confined to the Indian subcontinent.

Thousands of miles away in Central America, KMS earned more dirty money, this time from the American government.

It was 1984, the height of the Cold War, and the Reagan administration was obsessed with removing Nicaragua’s Marxist Sandinista government.

Enter U.S. Marine Lt Col Oliver North, member of the U.S. National Security Council, arch cold warrior and the architect of a plan to topple the Sandinistas by financing a secret war against them, ostensibly conducted by its Right-wing Nicaraguan opponents, the Contras.

But a secret war required expertise beyond that possessed by the Contras, so North called in KMS boss David Walker.

A graduate of Cambridge University and Sandhurst military academy, Walker had been an SAS troop commander, along with other founding members of KMS, during Britain’s undeclared involvement in a civil war in the Dhofar region of Oman in the early Seventies.

North decided that the best course of action was to get rid of the Sandinistas’ Soviet-supplied Hind helicopter gunships, which gave the regime a crucial advantage over the Contras. Walker was happy to oblige and, in March 1985, KMS carried out a bomb attack against a military complex in the Nicaraguan capital Managua.

But it soon emerged that the complex contained a hospital treating civilians and some 150 patients had to be evacuated as explosions rocked the city. Luckily, no one was killed.

KMS’s chief man on the ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, was another SAS veteran, Major Brian Baty, who had led operations against the IRA in the ‘Bandit Country’ of South Armagh. Known as The Baron in SAS circles, he operated in Sri Lanka under the name of Ken Whyte and gradually assumed a central role in orchestrating the anti-Tamil campaign.

Files show that when Baty was quizzed about the Sri Lankan STF police force by British officials in the Eighties, he defended the blood-soaked unit.

Naturally that did little to allay the concerns of the British government, which was torn between shutting down KMS and utilising the unit to its own ends.
This article appears in the October 13, 1995 issue of Executive Intelligence Review.

The SAS: Prince Philip's manager of terrorism

by Joseph Brewda

On the eve of the first of six scheduled French nuclear weapons tests in the South Pacific atoll of Mururoa in September, Greenpeace, an offshoot of Prince Philip's World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), carried out a series of violent protests. A Greenpeace team somehow managed to penetrate the highly militarized nuclear test zone. French authorities revealed that the team was led by two highly trained retired professionals from the British Army's Special Air Services (SAS), its elite paratrooper and commando arm. "They are people used to operations which have nothing to do with ecology," commented the French Security Services commander on the scene.

The incident points to the fact that SAS is active in international terrorism today, and that the motives behind its deployment are different than those of its patsies. As this report will show, SAS deployment is a key component of the "afghansi."

SAS has a special role derived from the fact that it operates outside the British government command structure, and is directly beholden to the Sovereign. Formed in 1941 by Lt. Col. David Stirling, it has always drawn on the highest levels of the Scottish oligarchical families for its officer corps. Stirling himself was from the Fraser family (the Lords Lovat), one of the oldest and wealthiest of the Scottish Highland families.

Closely associated with the royal family throughout his career, Stirling served as the "Goldstick" at Queen Elizabeth's 1952 coronation. The Goldstick is the royal household official solemnly mandated with securing the Sovereign's protection. Until his death in 1990, Stirling was a principal military adviser for Prince Philip's World Wide Fund for Nature, the royal family's most important private intelligence agency, and an organization bankrolled by his uncle, Lord Lovat, and his cousin, the Hongkong banker Henry Keswick. Together with its numerous private security company spinoffs, SAS is the military arm of the WWF.

SAS methods and procedures

According to the British Army handbook, the SAS is "particularly suited, trained, and equipped for counter-revolutionary operations," with a specialization in "infiltration," "sabotage," "assassination," as well as "liaison with, organization, training, and control of friendly guerrilla forces operating against the common enemy." From its inception in World War II, Special Air Services was detailed to run sabotage behind enemy lines and to organize popular revolt, at first in North Africa, and then in the Balkans, where another Stirling cousin, Fitzroy Maclean, ran British operations.

At the end of the war, SAS was disbanded, but it was soon revived to crush the Malay insurgency in Malaysia, and the Mau Mau insurgency in Kenya. The principle employed was to take over the insurgency from within, and use it to destroy the native population. In his 1960 book Gangs and Countergangs, Col. Frank Kitson boasted that the British were covertly leading several large-scale Mau Mau units, and that many, if not all Mau Mau units had been synthetically created by the colonial authorities. As a result of this practice, 22 whites were killed during the insurgency, as compared to 20,000 natives.

Based on this principle, SAS emphasized recruitment of natives, as it received increasing responsibilities for overseeing counterinsurgency within the postwar empire, as well as organizing insurgencies elsewhere. In New Zealand, 30% of SAS was drawn from the indigenous Maori tribes, later supplemented by Sarawak tribesmen from Indonesia. By the 1960s, New Zealand SAS was active throughout Southeast Asia, organizing tribal revolts against the Burmese government, and stirring similar movements in Northeast India. Similarly, SAS squadrons based in Rhodesia ran the 1960s tribal separatist insurgency in Zaire. They later recruited and deployed natives in terrorist raids in Mozambique and Zambia.

Today, there are three known SAS regiments, comprising 4,500 highly trained commandos in total. Training exercises for 15-man teams simulate terrorist assaults, in order, it is said, to "know the mind of the terrorist." Such teams are often sent abroad, to train British Commonwealth and other military units in the techniques of terrorist assault, as well as the use of tribal auxiliaries in covert warfare. Through such means, SAS has built an extensive terrorist control capability, especially in its former colonies. Its soldiers currently serve officially in some 30 countries.

'Private' means 'Her Majesty's'

In order to facilitate its role as a disavowable arm of royal household covert operations, SAS has spun off a series of private security and mercenary recruitment firms led by its retired or reserve-status officers. Among these are Keenie Meenie Services, whose name is taken from the Swahili term for the motion of a snake in the grass. During its heyday in the 1980s, KMS shared offices with Saladin Security, another SAS firm, next door to the 22nd SAS Regimental HQ in London. The firms were run by Maj. David Walker, an SAS South American specialist; Maj. Andrew Nightingale of SAS Group Intelligence; and Detective Ray Tucker, a former Arab affairs specialist at Scotland Yard.

Others SAS firms include:
  • Kilo Alpha Services (KAS), run by former SAS Counter-Terrorism Warfare team leader Lt. Col. Ian Crooke;
  • Control Risks, run by former SAS squadron leader Maj. Arish Turtle; and
  • J. Donne Holdings, run by SAS counterespionage specialist H.M.P.D. Harclerode, whose firm later provided bodyguards and commando training for Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi.
SAS operations under KMS label have been particularly important. In 1983, Lt. Col. Oliver North hired KMS to train the Afghan mujahideen, and simultaneously, to mine Managua harbor in Nicaragua, and to train the Nicaraguan Contras. At the same time, KMS was detailed to provide personal security for the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Prince Bandar, a close associate of then Vice President George Bush, who helped supply tens of billions of Saudi dollars for "Iran-Contra" operations internationally.

KMS has a long history in the Arab and Muslim world. One of its first known assignments, back in the 1970s, was to aid Oman in repressing a revolt in its province of Dhofar. Oman remains a de facto British colony; its officer corps is dominated by British officers on secondment. KMS has also worked in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, all of which are de facto British colonies, and all of which include numerous former SAS officers in their security apparatus. The current security chief in Bahrain, Ian Henderson, for example, was an SAS officer in Kenya during the Mau Mau period. The Omani chief of security is a former SAS officer, as is the case in Dubai, where KMS official Fiona Fraser, another Stirling relative, resides.

These oil sheikhdoms are key hubs for British covert financial operations internationally. Dubai, for instance, is the center of the illegal flow of gold to Asia, while Kuwait has been a major bankroller of Afghan and Pakistan opium cultivation. The emirates' gold trade, which is integral to the drugs-for-arms trade, is overseen by the British Bank of the Middle East, a Dubai-based subsidiary of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp., a centuries-old leading financier of the opium trade dominated by Stirling's cousins, the Keswicks. Abu Dhabi, similarly, was the headquarters of the Bank of Commerce and Credit International, the now-defunct narco-bank. BCCI, which was run by WWF activist and funder Hassan Abedi, was a major conduit for bankrolling the Afghan War.

The relations of these SAS firms with the Iran-Contra narcotics trafficking, emerged dramatically in August 1989, when reports surfaced in the British and Italian press that the Colombian Cali Cartel, historically most closely tied to the George Bush machine, had hired SAS veterans to assassinate Pablo Escobar of the rival Medellín Cartel. On Aug. 16, three days after the story broke, Colombian presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán, a fierce opponent of the drug trade, was assassinated, some Colombian government sources say, by these British mercenaries. Among the individuals identified as working for the Cali Cartel were Col. Peter McAleese, a former SAS officer in Malaysia; Alex Lenox, a former member of the SAS Counter-Terrorism Warfare task force; and David Tomkins, a veteran of Afghanistan.

WWF's 'Operation Lock'

In 1988, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, a co-founder of the WWF with Prince Philip, established a special hit squad within the WWF under the name of "Operation Lock," officially charged with stopping the poaching of elephants and rhinos in South Africa's national parks. Operation Lock hired Kilo Alpha Services (KAS), the private security firm led by Lt. Col. Ian Crooke. Crooke was a commander of the 23rd SAS Regiment, a part-time unit composed of reserve officers and soldiers frequently employed in SAS private security firms. His brother Alastair, the British vice consul in Pakistan, helped oversee the arming of the Afghan mujahideen.

Operation Lock is the secret behind the fratricidal warfare in South Africa between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha, which killed 10,000 people between 1990-95. KAS supervised the commando training of Zulu followers of Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi's Inkatha, who were employed as game wardens and guards in several South African national parks. It also undertook the training of opposing Xhosa tribal followers of Nelson Mandela's ANC, in different parks. Beginning in 1989, these commando teams began what has since been referred to as "third force" killings: the slaughter of ANC and the rival Zulu cadre in such a way as to implicate each other.

In August 1991, Zimbabwean Minister for National Security Sydney Sekerayami accused KAS of "being a cover for the destabilization of southern Africa." In 1993, his government's investigations determined that the 1992 Boipatong anti-Zulu massacre was carried out by the "Crowbar squad," a Namibian anti-poaching unit created and trained by KAS.

Destabilizing Sri Lanka

In 1983, Sri Lankan President Julius Jayawardene asked the U.S. and British governments to help him suppress the insurrection led by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE, Tamil Tigers). The British government authorized KMS to train the Sri Lankan Army in counterinsurgency, and to lead Army units fighting the LTTE. For its part, the United States set up an "Israeli interests" section at its embassy in Sri Lanka, also charged with training the Sri Lankan Army. But simultaneously, KMS and the Israelis were secretly training the LTTE too, at training camps in Israel and elsewhere. The Sri Lankan civil war rapidly increased in intensity. In 1991, the LTTE was implicated in the murder of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

An article in the Western Mail in Wales at the time noted: "A band of mercenary soldiers recruited in South Wales is training a Tamil army to fight for a separate State in Sri Lanka. About 20 mercenaries were signed up after a meeting in Cardiff, and have spent the last two months in southern India preparing a secret army to fight the majority Sinhalas, in the cause of a separate Tamil State in Sri Lanka." According to recent Indian press reports, the LTTE is now being equipped with Stinger missiles diverted from former Afghan mujahideen stocks.

The afghansi

Throughout the 1980s, SAS was on the ground in Pakistan as a lead agency training the Afghan mujahideen. SAS expertise in "sabotage," and "liaison with, organization, training, and control of friendly guerrilla forces," was, of course, much in demand when Islamic volunteers with plenty of fervor, but no military training, began arriving in Pakistan from all over the world. In camps throughout Pakistan, these youth and their Afghan refugee counterparts, were turned into commandos, and sent into Afghanistan to fight. In reality, the Afghan operation was always deployed against all nation-states in the region, not just the Soviet Union.

Oman was a particularly critical base of SAS operations into Afghanistan throughout the 1979-89 war. According to the recent unauthorized biography of Mark Thatcher, son of the former British prime minister, Oman's extensive SAS community served as the principal British arms-shipping center for the mujahideen.

The sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said, was installed on the throne in 1970, in an SAS-orchestrated coup that deposed his father. The head of the coup effort was Brig. J.T.W. ("Tim") Landon, who had been an intimate of Qaboos since the 1950s, when both had attended the British military academy at Sandhurst. The newly installed sultan showed his gratitude to his old school chum by making Landon his equerry, special adviser, and chief military counsellor. Landon built up Oman's military as one of the best-armed small forces in the world. The arms purchases were handled by another former British Army officer, David Bayley, who set up a purchasing office in the Omani capital of Muscat. Another active figure in the British military community in Oman was Lt. Col. Johnny Cooper, a founder of SAS.

Landon enjoyed intimate ties to both Mark Thatcher and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher throughout the 1980s, and this further facilitated Oman's key role as a weapons conduit to the Afghan mujahideen. A look at a map of the Arabian Sea and the Indian subcontinent shows that Oman is a stone's throw away from the Pakistani port of Karachi, the major weapons-importing point (and heroin-exporting point) for the Afghan rebels.

Ironically, another strong player in Oman during this period was one of the American CIA figures who most closely followed the British SAS model: Theodore G. Shackley. Shackley had directed the CIA's "secret war in Laos" during the late 1960s and early 1970s, and had written a book, The Third Option, spelling out the SAS approach to training and controlling local insurgent armies as surrogates. Much of the Laos "secret war" had been financed by the sale of Golden Triangle opium. Shackley was a pivotal behind-the-scenes player in George Bush's "secret parallel government" apparatus that ran the Afghan, Nicaraguan, Angolan, and other covert operations.

When Shackley left the CIA, he went on retainer with a shadowy Dutch oil trader named John Deuss, who developed a special relationship with Sultan Qaboos that was almost as tight as the Omani's ties to Brigadier Landon.

Typical SAS uses of these afghansi include:
  • Punjab: In 1984, Sikh separatists assassinated Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, following a several-year bloody insurgency in Punjab. Many of the Sikh terrorist leaders had fought in Afghanistan. The Sikh terrorist groups active in Punjab, such as Babbar Khalsa, were trained abroad by SAS veterans in British Columbia, Canada, and Britain. Many of these Canadian Sikh leaders also oversaw western arms smuggling to Pakistan for the war in Afghanistan.
  • Kashmir: In May 1995, Kashmiri separatists occupying the Charare-e-Sharif mosque burnt it down, after a three-month Indian Army siege. "India should remember that the fire of Charare-e-Sharif will not be confined to Kashmir alone, but will burn Delhi and Bombay," the leader of Harkat-ul-Ansar threatened following the incident. The group is composed and led by former Afghan mujahideen, and is an offshoot of the "Islamic fundamentalist" Jamiati Islami of Pakistan which received millions of dollars from the West during the Afghan War.
If Pakistan "continues to interfere in India's internal affairs, we shall have no option but to accomplish the unfinished task of vacating Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," the Indian home minister threatened, claiming that Pakistan oversaw the incident. Pakistan's Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto convened a special cabinet meeting to review Pakistan's military preparedness in response, claiming Indian responsibility for the affair.

But there is another "third force" at work. The Kashmiri groups demand that Pakistani-occupied Kashmir, and not just Indian Kashmir, be "liberated," to form an independent State. The creation of an independent Kashmir would fragment and destroy Pakistan, while massively eroding the strength of India.

Streatham's Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy said her thoughts were with those injured, their families and those who witnessed the attack.

"Two individuals have been stabbed - one is quite seriously unwell," she told BBC News.

She said the police took down a man "who they had been watching for some time".

Streatham attacker had been released from jail
A man shot dead by police after he attacked people in south London had been recently released from prison after serving time for terror offences.

He was under active police surveillance at the time of the attack, which police believe to be an Islamist-related terrorist incident.
He had a hoax device strapped to his body, police said.

Three people were injured, with one person in a life-threatening condition.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the government would announce further plans for "fundamental changes to the system for dealing with those convicted of terrorism offences" on Monday.

It has not been confirmed they were specifically following the man but they appear to have reacted fast when he started attacking people with a knife.

Counter-terrorist police and MI5 have around 3,000 so called "subjects of interest" at any one time but a much smaller number are under round-the-clock surveillance because it takes a huge team of specialist officers to watch a suspect covertly.

This means that preventing terrorism is all about taking difficult decisions. Which suspects should be watched? What level of risk do they pose and when is the best time to make an arrest, given the need to capture real evidence?

Those decisions have become harder in recent years as would be attackers are increasingly likely to act alone and to use low-tech weapons, sometimes on a whim.

He was being tailed by a surveillance team, they were the first to respond. They shot him, saw what seemed like cannisters strapped to his chest, then backed off. Armed response officers arrived in ARV's minutes later, delivered a second fatal shot.

Edit: attacker named as 20 year old Sudesh Mamoor Faraz Amman, had pledged allegiance to IS. He was previously jailed for 3 years towards the end of 2018, not sure if he was out in early release or parole. But it seemed it seemed obvious he was out to cause harm hence the active surveillance.

Shouldn't Charles be next in line though? I'm sure most will be hoping for William. But I like Charles, a tragic story really, what with the adulation given to Diana simply based on her looks.

Man had the right perspective IMHO when it came to things like village economy, environment and religion.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... Amman.html
The terrorist shot dead by police after stabbing two people in Streatham on Sunday was automatically released from prison just a few days ago, after serving less than half of a three year-plus sentence for 13 terror offences.

'Knife-obsessed' Sudesh Amman, 20, went on a rampage in south London, stabbing a man in his 40s in the stomach and a female cyclist in her 50s in the back, though both survived.

It has now been revealed that Amman, from Harrow, was jailed for three years and four months in December 2018 after he pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing terrorist documents.

The then-18-year-old fantasised about carrying out a terror attack with a blade or with acid while riding a moped and also shared Al Qaeda propaganda on a WhatsApp group used by his family.

After being jailed for his offences, he was automatically released just a few days ago, after serving half of his sentence, despite authorities being concerned that he still held extremist views.

Today, while being under active police surveillance and 'very stringent licencing conditions', he launched a horrific knife rampage in Streatham, south London, leaving one man in a life-threatening condition, though he later recovered.

Wearing a fake suicide vest, Amman stole a £3.99 blade from a convenience store and stabbed the man, in his 40s, in the stomach before knifing a female cyclist, in her 50s, in the back.

Armed police were on the scene within minutes, having been following him because they suspected he was going to launch a terrorist attack imminently. After he failed to stop, Amman was shot dead outside a Boots chemist.

After the rampage, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the government would announce further plans for 'fundamental changes to the system for dealing with those convicted of terrorism offences' on Monday.

A Whitehall source claimed he was released despite concerns because the law didn't give them the power to keep him in jail.
13 terror offences got him only a 3y and 4m sentence, and he was automatically out after serving half that time? It defies common sense.

He was being followed as police suspected he wanted to commit a terror offence. He should have been shot as soon as he picked up the knife.

Another misguided yooth with strain of virulent infection perhaps. Even after jail how much is a democracy, a fine and amongst best ones, supposed to pay for exact diagnosis and cure.
In India we have jailor crying for hanging a terrorist who told the jailor he was only fighting corruption.
