Excuse the ignorance/naivete, but with Mallya out of the picture( as far as management goes), are most if not all of the UB group companies still functioning? Companies like UB Engineering, UB Breweries, UBICS et al? Is there a next in line, if/when Mallya is out permanently? Or will these companies continue as professional, publicly(i.e shareholders) owned entities, without a figurehead like Mallya?

Mehul Choksi’s application was received by the CIU in May 2017 with the necessary documentary requirements including a police clearance certificate as required by section 5 (2) (b) of the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship By Investment Act 2013.

The said police clearance certificate from the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs Regional Passport Office, Mumbai, certified that there was no adverse information against Mr. Mehul Chinubbhai Choksi which would “render him ineligible for grant of travel facilities including visa for Antigua and Barbuda.
Govt of Antigua states that Chokusi was given citizenship by investment after GoI gave green signal.

Why don't you calm down, lose the rude language and explain what part of the inability to track the movement of a non-Indian national is India's fault or 'embarrassment' ?

The last I checked, their so called Singapore passport is no longer mentioned. They supposedly had EU (Belgium) passports, and yet they couldn't even trust the EU to save them. Instead they first dealt in one buy-a-passport Caribbean island (St. Kitts) and now another (Antigua). And meanwhile in Antigua, their government is in crisis over this, with the opposition blaming the ruling party of harming ties with a powerful Commonwealth power.

It's been posted in the news recently that the Antigua government has claimed that the Indian government did not offer any adverse feedback about Choksi when he applied for his Antigua passport. That may be true, because if you read further, the news at the same time also states that Choksi applied for and got his Antigua passport over a year ago.

chetak, you have a long history of getting angry and posting emotionally here. You have a pass this time, but your behavior is borderline censure worthy. Please reconsider your approach to posting on this forum. This is not a place for you to vent your anger as you please, with others being responsible to clean up after you. Find another means or avenue to calm down, then post here with a calm and rational mind.

I did not go further because my post would have been considered political. I actually deleted a lot of what I had written.

But I do take your point. No more language issues.

it is just a little tiresome that in every single case, some charge sheet or the other has not been filed in the allotted time, or some red corner notice has not been sent for months on end or if sent, it is sent to the wrong place and with inadequate details. We do have Indian representatives posted at the Interpol HQ. This is not the first time that India has sent a request for RCN. Except for some few terrorist types, I don't think that any of our extradition efforts have come to fruition. We have R&AW guys stationed in every major country. Is it really all that difficult for our intelligence types to trace the movement of a known passenger??

We have a friendly relationship with most countries and many would oblige with the required help, especially pertaining to an Indian suspect.

Investment based citizenship for antigua is a big business and possibly their one major draw. They will lose credibility if they extradite anyone holding their citizenship unless it is for murder or some such very grave charge. They will fight tooth and nail, using every legal means available to them to avoid this situation.

BTW, the red corner notice (RCN) request from the CBI to the Interpol against Choksi is still pending.

There's nothing productive to be gained for the forum by offering public scoldings. Angry accusatory posts are not of any use the forum. It gets others angry, and THEY start posting like you. Nothing useful is established by such a sequence of posts except 'many people are angry'. From a moderation perspective this is a complete waste of everyone's time.

This forum is a place for productive forward discussion. If you care so much about this topic, then become a subject matter expert on the topic of pursuing white collar criminals outside India. Find out more about what agencies are involved in such an effort. Which ministries are they under ? And how the agencies work together, how they could do better, who could be contacted to offer feedback, or such things.

Such an in depth analysis of the problem would be a spectacular achievement for this forum. Everyone gains a deep understanding of how things work, don't work, could work better, who could be informed. Far more so than just yelling 'OMFG! What the cluck are these bar-stewards doing ?'

Hiding Russian Money Was Easy

Just another article discussing how the Brits butter their bread in London via the world of international tax avoidance. These guys will always be a magnet for shady operators, including our home-grown crooks. And is it any wonder that we've requested extradition of Nirav Modi from them now? Same thing. International (illicit?) financial capital of the world. The article mainly deals with Russian oligarchs using the service, but surely is representative of the whole lot.
Mr. Benedict Worsley, tall with thinning gray hair, flew on private jets and sailed on luxury yachts. His Rolodex swelled to include people in Luxembourg, Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates. Despite having no finance background, the 50-year-old former headhunter reinvented himself as an offshore specialist helping manage hundreds of shell companies. Along the way he acquired a ringside seat into how rich Russians quietly shuffle money across the European Union and marveled at how easy it was.
Nobodies like Mr. Worsley are the building blocks that made London’s reputation as an international money center. Countless fixers—lawyers, real-estate agents, corporate-service providers—help funnel foreign money though the city and cater to the world’s superrich.

And there's this gem:
Mr. Worsley, who hasn’t been accused by authorities of any crimes, was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary and expenses for his work. He said in an affidavit in a subsequent court case that he didn’t stop to consider that the money flows he facilitated might be construed as illicit.

“At that time the use of offshore companies was an everyday reality around the world,” he wrote in his online manifesto at the end of 2017.
Like several other Russian banks, NBT skated through the financial crisis by hiding problems from regulators. To dress up bad loans, NBT had a system. It would lend money to a Cypriot shell company, which would recycle the funds through a maze of companies before funneling it back into NBT to cover the defaulted borrower’s interest payments. This circular flow kept the bank afloat—at least for a time.

NBT’s management wanted to create distance between the bank and the offshore network. They needed a fixer, a legitimate middleman, to help administer the shell companies seemingly at arm’s length. They knew this person shouldn’t be Russian. Russians kept getting ripped off by European lawyers who smelled new money and jacked up the fees.
The aim of the Teos office was to help manage the merry-go-round of cash. Laid out on a piece of paper, the NBT offshore structure is hard to follow, with arrows pointing back and forth between companies making and receiving loans. The goal was simple, though: keep NBT’s bad loans from coming to the attention of auditors, regulators or customers.

Each time a major bad loan needed handling, Mr. Worsley would receive instruction from NBT’s Moscow headquarters to create a new “silo” of companies to service it.
All in the facade of 'legal' money laundering.

It goes on and on. A little nauseating to read, actually. It's like all the rules are for the little guys. I still remember being unable to close a small deposit account at ICICI for the longest time- 'signature doesn't match.' Went on for years. And these jokers scam the system because they pay good money to game that same system. This is going to be one happy nobody when the wall finally crumples on at least one Vijay Mallya or Nirav Modi type.

A huge row has erupted in Britain after ex-Foreign Sec. and senior Tory leader Boris Johnson said that the slit-eyed burqas looked like post office "pillar boxes",etc.,The Saudi style slit-eyed burqs, growing in India too,do not show the faces of the occupants and pose a severe security problem for law and enforcement officers.Asinine Brit. politicos, with sights on their Muslim votebanks, like the one in Q,have amazingly said that it was the equivalent of a crucifix! A crucifix doesn't hide the individual, similarly a Sikh's turban ,but the highly offensive burqa in non-Muslim nations upsets the population.Pandering to such insanities is why cretins like Ruth D is why Britain is rapidly being turned into Britainistan.
Burkas are like wearing a crucifix and should be defended, says Ruth Davidson, as Boris row escalates

Ruth Davidson said Boris Johnson's comments in his Telegraph column were 'gratuitously offensive'

Muslim women who wear burkas should be defended in the same way as Christians who wear a crucifix, a senior Conservative has said amid a growing Tory row over Boris Johnson’s comments on face veils.

Ruth Davidson, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said debate over wearing burkas and crosses “is the same argument but in a different faith” and so they should both have the same “parameters”.

Jeremy Wright, the Culture Secretary, said it was wrong to label face coverings “oppressive”, but the Conservatives were accused of losing touch with voters as a poll showed 60 per cent of Britons think burkas should be banned in public places.

This entire burkha business is showing the polarisation in not just the UK but the west in general.
They have basically lost the will to stand up and defend their culture against the peaceful ones.
One of the symbols of a failed, retarded, dysfunctional religion/culture/society is being defended because governments are paralysed with fear and political correctness.

The worst is yet to come.

UK Refuses India's Request to Stop Referendum 2020 by Pro-Khalistan Groups in London https://www.news18.com/news/india/uk-re ... 37835.html

There seems to be a sudden, coordinated whipping up of the pro-Khalistan sentiment in some parts of the world. Links with Pakistan’s ISI have also been drawn after reports of some gurudwaras in Pakistan being used for anti-India tirade have surfaced. Indian High Commissioner to Islamabad Ajay Besaria was prevented from going to Gurudwara Punja Sahib twice this year.
New Delhi: The UK government has sent a formal Note Verbale to New Delhi after India repeatedly raised concerns over the Referendum 2020 event to be held in London on August 12 by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). The UK government in the communication conveyed its inability in blocking the event citing the right that allows “people to gather together and to demonstrate their views, provided that they do so within the law”.

Stating that its police “have comprehensive powers to deal with such activities," the response said that “any groups who spread hate or deliberately raise community fears and tensions by bringing disorder and violence to our towns and cities” will not be tolerated though.

It has been almost a month since India issued a demarche to the UK protesting the rally organised by the US-based separatist group SFJ. India expressed serious reservations over UK’s territory being used to question the sovereignty of India. It also pointed out that SFJ was acting as a front for terror activities.

5. There should be a separate brishit tax on all tourism related goods and services - double for nationals from fUK. This will go in setting up museums of bri-shit atrocities in all towns and cities. And also to collect stolen Indian heritage back from brishit museum.

All official engagements with fUK should be cancelled. They partitioned India once, they cannot interfere again.

Totally agree. There are few who are fanning the flames notably from Canada and US. There is no need to boil blood but silently make all diplomatic channels mute and organise a meeting with Irish Prime minister and show the support for united Ireland after the Brexit. Infect Modi should organise a visit to Ireland and make a point to also meet Scottish Nationalist party and show support for Independence. This way red chilli will love applied at appropriate places and make a point of flying in few Scottish and United Ireland supporters when any begger is out there in India to do business with Indian companies.

None of this serves any purpose other than inflating ego.

What really needs to be done is impose restrictions on khalistani supporters and their families in India. Simple, effective and to the point. But of course none of it will happen because India is afraid of being seen as "authoritarian".

I closely followed the case of this guy Johal. There were almost daily Youtube videos out by Canadian /UK Khalis threatening to kill Hindu leaders which they bundled them under RSS banner. After the arrests, all of them disappeared .Both Canadians and Uk Khalistanis have been given and living under impression that UK/Canada have diplomatic clout to pressure on India that Khalistani can commit any crime without serious percussions. Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Lawsuit
What if a private rastrawadi Sikh organization in India, prepared, vocalized a massive criminal and civil lawsuit against the not-so-Royal family by 2020 for massacring hundreds and may be thousands of innocent Sikh men and women in Jallianwala Bagh in 1919? Civil penalties against YooK of say 10 trillion pounds and arrest warrant of the mona-thu-archy.

If Kha-thu-thu-listan 2020 is expected to be played out in the media, let the pictures, videos and stories of Jallianwala Bagh massacre victims and their families play out in the Indian and international media. Tit for tat..baat khatam
