'Plastic-eating' fungus discovered in Islamabad garbage dump
Pakistani and Chinese researchers have discovered a fungus which feeds on plastic in a rubbish dump in Islamabad.
the fungus aspergillus tubingensis can break down non-biodegradable plastic in weeks by secreting enzymes which pull apart individual molecules
Paki fungus means business. Gives a new urgency to the name 'slummabad.According to the World Economic Forum, the fungus lives in soil but researchers say that it can also survive on plastic surfaces.

Man apprehended with 'bag of mosquitoes' in Peshawar hospital
A 25-year-old man was apprehended by staff at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar on September 18 with a bag full of mosquitoes that were suspected to be carriers of a lethal disease
The man, Saifullah, a resident of Peshpahaara, a rural town, had told a security guard at the hospital that he had only brought the mosquitoes to the hospital to confirm if they were dangerous.
Quick, pakis must discover a fungus that eats mosquitoes.More surprisingly, the man had said that someone in his town had promised that he would be paid for 'providing' virus-spreading mosquitoes

The Trump & Pence Show
In UN speech, Donald Trump reinforces tough US stand against countries supporting terror
NEW DELHI: Donald Trump just added to Pakistan's troubles. After articulating an Afghan strategy a fortnight ago in which he described Pakistan as part of the problem in Afghanistan, the US President used his UN speech to go after Pakistan once again — as a safe haven for Islamist terror groups that threaten Americans — though the US President did not name any country.
In his maiden speech at the UN general assembly Trump said, "It is time to expose and hold responsible those countries who support and finance terror groups like al-Qaida, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and others that slaughter innocent people." He added, "We must deny the terrorists safe haven, transit, funding, and any form of support for their vile and sinister ideology. ... The United States and our allies are working together throughout the Middle East to crush the loser terrorists and stop the reemergence of safe havens they use to launch attacks on all of our people. Last month I announced a new strategy for victory in the fight against this evil in Afghanistan. From now on, our security interests will dictate the length and scope of military operation, not arbitrary benchmarks and timetables set up by politicians. I have also totally changed the rules of engagement in our fight against the Taliban and other terrorist groups."
The UN statement is a continuation of his Afghanistan/South Asia strategy where Pakistan was put on notice as the country which was the sanctuary to the Taliban, long regarded as the reason why the Taliban received continued oxygen. Trump kept his attention on the core issue of his South Asia policy, that he talked about couple of weeks ago. "The next pillar of our new strategy is to change the approach and how to deal with Pakistan. We can no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe havens for terrorist organizations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond. Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan. It has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals and terrorists."
Trump's remarks come just days before US defence secretary James Mattis is scheduled to visit India as both courntries work out the contours of a collaborative approach to Afghanistan. India is expected to step up its game in Afghanistan and go beyond the current levels of economic assistance to Afghanistan. India will have a more difficult role to play with Russia which has intervened in Afghanistan — on the side of the Taliban, and therefore Pakistan.
Pakistan leaders who have reacted angrily to Trump's Af-Pak strategy have threatened to deny logistics support to US troops going to Afghanistan. These GLOCS (ground lines of communication) were considered to be vital for the US running its war in Afghanistan for the past 15 years. But as relations between the US and Pakistan tanked, the US began to use the Northern Distribution Network to supply its Afghan bases. But in recent years, security sources said, the US has reduced its dependence on Pakistan to just 15 per cent. The current US strategy also does not envisage large troop movements, since its mainly a counter-terrorism mission.
Pakistan has also threatened that the US move would drive it closer to China, and decrease US leverage. But this has been happening for some time anyway, said sources. On the other hand, with Pakistan in the US crosshairs on terrorism, China would face headwinds in its own expanding footprint inside Pakistan.
Far more important is the fact that Trump has denied Taliban the dignity of a legitimate political actor in Afghanistan, preferring to keep them in the terrorist bracket. This robs Pakistan of a key argument but is also a course correction by Washington - the US had refrained from designating Taliban a terror group to leave the door open for future negotiations.
Cheers

Tension de-escalates as Pakistan, US agree to resolve conflict through dialogue
NEW YORK – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and US Vice President Mike Pence have reached an agreement to hold dialogues in order to settle the bilateral relations, which began further deteriorate after Donald Trump accused Pakistan of sheltering terrorist.
The agreement surfaced during a meeting between both officials on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly session in New York. The US vice president also expressed willingness to send a delegation to Pakistan next month for this purpose. Is is again "diplomatic niceties" given the "usual twist" by the Pakis !
Vice President Mike Pence during the meeting said that the US wanted to have long term partnership with Islamabad in order to bring peace and stability to the region. In response, PM Abbasi said Pakistan is an active player in war against terrorism, adding that the war caused of huge losses to the country.Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua talking to media following the meeting said that the prime minister had also informed the US vice president about country’s stand on Trump’s recent Afghan policy. She added that both sides also decided to continue talks over the Afghanistan issue, Radio Pakistan reported. She further said that an American delegation will visit Pakistan in October, next month, to ease the tensed relations. Some sort of "extension" ( to produce results !) has been given to Pakistan till October, IMO

NAB Lahore team raids Ishaq Dar’s house in Islamabad, questions employees
ISLAMABAD – A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team raided finance minister Ishaq Dar’s house in Islamabad hours after an accountability court issued bailable arrest warrants against the PML-N stalwart, ARY News reported.
The officials reportedly went to Dar’s house in Ministers Enclave, Islamabad and questioned employees while telling them that they had an arrest warrant for the federal minister. The officials had the employees sign a receiving of the arrest orders and compliance summons, and then searched the house to make sure Dar was not present there.
Earlier in the day, an accountability court which was hearing a reference filed by NAB against him for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income, issued bailable arrest warrants against Dar.
As the hearing began in Judge Mohammad Bashir’s court, Dar’s protocol officer Fazal Dad appeared in court and informed the judge that the minister is presently in London. It also emerged today that the anti-corruption watchdog has also appealed for freezing bank accounts of the finance minister. NAB had made a written request to banks for freezing Dar’s accounts in connection with Hajveri Trust and the companies owned by him, sources said. "Bailable Arrest Warrants" seems to the current "instrument of the month" and are being issued left and right . Just the other day , something of a similar nature was issued against Imran Khan !

Retd Lt Gen Amjad Shuaib Rebuts Earlier Story To Reuters Reporter ( under pressure ?)
Rebuttal of Reuters' story
Rebuttal of Reuters' story
I am writing this in response to a story filed by Mr. Asif Shehzad of Reuters, in which he has maliciously attributed some statements to me totally out of context, just to suit his own narrative.Mr. Asif had requested me for an interview on the issues related to the proscribed organizations in Pakistan in the aftermath of the recently issued joint communiqué by BRICS and some of the statements issued by various ministers. It was a 60 to 70 minutes long interview, recorded on camera which covered all the aspects related to the proscribed organizations, including the Army’s position on this issue as I understood based on the information which I have been gathering from here and there.
Following is the complete narration of my interview which was put across by me in response to various questions asked by Mr. Asif: (This is the General's version ! will the recording say otherwise ) -
“Pakistan had signed an American brokered Agreement with India in Jan 2004 in which the two sides had agreed to keep the LOC inactive and calm. In order to honour this agreement, Gen Musharaf ordered the closure of all the militant camps in Azad Kashmir which were being run by various volunteer Jihadi groups mostly at their own. Instead of deradicalizing these people through a well thought out plan, these people were just ordered to disappear. This did not go well with these Jihadi elements because they thought that the Govt of Pakistan, under the American pressure had abandoned the Kashmir cause. Gen Musharaf was viewed by them as a traitor and thus most of their men, in defiance to their own leadership, took up arms against the people of Pakistan. Elements from Jaish e Muhammad formed Punjabi Taliban under Asmatullah Muaaviah and were responsible for some of the deadliest terror attacks in Pakistan. Similarly a large number of militants like – Kasmiri from Lashkar e Tayyaba had joined TTP and had started terrorism against the state of Pakistan. After 2004, Lashkar e Tayyaba and Jaish e Muhammad, except for some rogue elements, had become almost dysfunctional. I told him that ISI or Pakistan Army never used them for any attack in India because this was not the way Intelligence Agencies operate. Intelligence Agencies never use their own citizens for a violent action in another country. Like any other Intelligence Agency, ISI must also be having hundreds of Indian citizens as their moles which could be easily launched into action but Pakistan has not been doing so because of our official policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
After the Pathankot terror attack, Govt of Pakistan ordered an inquiry, which was conducted jointly by IB and ISI. The inquiry after a hectic investigation concluded that no one from Pakistan was involved in this attack. However through our sources across the border we came to know that some rogue Jihadi elements, working on the directions of hostile intelligence agencies, hadlaunched this false flag attack. During the course of our investigation our intelligence agencies had learnt that within the next few days another attack was going to be launched by the same elements, in the Indian State of Gujrat. On the directions of the Govt of Pakistan our NSA, Gen Nasir Khan Janjua informed his Indian counterpart Mr. Ajit Doval not only about this attack but also gave him names of six persons out of the ten terrorists who were going to be the part of this action. Pakistan would never had informed the Indians, if any of our institution would have been involved. I am sure the individuals involved in this failed attack were also Pakistanis but after apprehending them the Indians never took up this issue with our Govt. which is indicative of the involvement/connivance of their own agencies in staging such acts of terrorism only to malign Pakistan.
Pakistan Army or ISI has never used any elements from Lashkar or Jaish. We also know that the leadership of the proscribed organizations is no longer involved in any Jihadi activity. On one hand these organizations have been banned in Pakistan, on the other hand the Hurriet leadership in Kashmir had categorically condemned their activities as in their opinion these were totally detrimental to their peaceful struggle. Although Lashkar and Jaish were not active in Jihadi activities yet their violent speeches against India and long processions were creating a wrong perception about Pakistan. ISI was particularly concerned about this aspect because an impression was being created that ISI was the moving force behind these organizations. Hence on a number of occasions ISI advised the Govt. to control their activities. It was recommended that if it was difficult for the civilian Govt. to do anything then the Army may be authorised to take action. It took two years for the army to convince the Punjab Govt to allow the rangers to operate in Punjab and that too in a limited role. Naturally, hundreds of these Jihadi elements can neither be culled nor they can be imprisoned because we do not have any cases against them in Pakistan. Even Hafiz Saeed’s detention is illegal and will not be sustainable in any court of Law. Hence in our opinion deradicalization of these elements through a well thought out plan and then bringing the nonviolent individuals into main stream life was the only solution to get over this problem. In Aril last year, ISI had handed over two proposed deradicalization action plans for consideration by the Govt. Most probably the PM had handed over these plans to NACTA for their further action. In addition to encouraging these groups to come into main stream politics, the two plans included a large number of other steps ranging from disarming the armed individuals to introducing wide ranging Madrassa reforms. Then came the DAWN leaks in which an effort was made to create an impression about the Army for supporting these Jihadi elements. This drew a very strong reaction from the Army because the DAWN story had depicted totally an opposite picture about Army’s sincere efforts to put the yoke around the proscribed organizations. In reply to a question, I elaborated the internationally recognised concept of deradicalization. I also explained that except for a few individuals most of them are peaceful people and they should be separated and allowed to work as normal citizens. By bringing these parties in mainstream politics we will be able to keep a close eye on their activities. More over these parties will have to declare their assets and funds to the election commission every year. This will help the Govt in keeping a check on their sources of funding. I also narrated the research work on deradicalization of proscribed organizations, under taken by Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies. As a participant in their study I had also made a mention to the forum about ISI’s proposal for the deradicalization of the banned organizations. During this exercise, PIPS administration had invited the heads or the representatives of the proscribed organizations to hear their side of the story. During the discussion on their activities, these people condemned all types of militancy and gave positive indication for adopting various deradicallization measures. (@During the lunch break), in my private capacity, I asked the representatives/leaders about their views on our proposals for their future role in main stream politics and national life. All of them were quite happy about the proposals and wanted to hold further discussions with their people.” This is the "version" that the Fauj wanted him to say, IMO !
No where in my interview I had ever said that Army was pushing for mainstreaming the proscribed organisations because it was not true. But unfortunately the journalist who interviewed me used it as the main header of his story to make it more attractive for his readers.@(In my interview, I did not tell Mr. Asif that I spoke to the leaders of the proscribed organizations during the lunch). Probably the "poor reporter" has already been "grilled" by the "Deep State" for "spoiling the good name of Pakistan" in these days of "tension with US"

Nawaz removed Kulbhushan Jadhav related para from last year’s UNGA speech
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif deliberately removed the paragraph related to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav and India’s involvement in Balochistan when he spoke to United Nations General Assembly last year in September, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
According to ARY News Islamabad Bureau Chief Sabir Shakir, the former PM was asked to raise the issue of Indian spy and the neighbouring country’s involvement in terror activities in Balochistan but he removed the whole paragraph related to the topic from his speech.
The revelation comes at a time when country’s current prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is in New York to participate in the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).It was also revealed that the journalists accompanying the PM in New York are being kept away from meetings and are relying on press statements issued by the government. Abbasi’s address to the UNGA — slated for September 2. They should "allow" the new PM to include the missing paragraph in the current year's speech !

Contempt case: IHC suspends ECP’s arrest warrants against Imran
The Express Tribune
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday suspended bailable warrants of arrest issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a contempt case. IHC’s larger bench, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, suspended the top electoral body’s order while directing counsel for the PTI Babar Awan to submit a reply to the show-cause notice duly signed by Khan before the ECP by September 25.
The commission, however, declared on August 10 that it had the constitutional authority to hear the contempt case and issued a formal show-cause notice to Khan, asking him to submit a reply by August 23.
Later, when Khan did not submit any reply, the ECP issued a second show-cause notice to him on August 24. In the hearing before the larger bench, Awan said there is nothing left to say when Khan has already submitted his reply and shown respect to the ECP bench. “Did the statement signed by Imran Khan as copy of the reply not bear his signature?” inquired Justice Farooq. “I don’t know my lord,” replied Babar, adding he owned every word of the reply and has full authority to make a statement on behalf of his client. “Do you intend to file a reply before the Election Commission,” enquired Justice Aurangzeb.
He requested the court to set aside the ECP’s order of August 10 and declare all other consequential contempt-related proceedings void, unlawful and without lawful authority.

"Conspiracy" To Spread Dengue Fever In Peshawar
Family Caught Trying to Spread Dengue in Peshawar
Family Caught Trying to Spread Dengue in Peshawar
Some people never fail to surprise you be it for good reasons, and in this instance, a rather malicious reason. On Monday a family was caught transporting a bag full of mosquitos that could potentially cause dengue if released into the wild. The dengue disease spreads like an epidemic and KPK province is currently facing a healthcare emergency in this regard. The details of the incident were released by the director of Hayat Abad Medical Complex, Dr Shehzad Akbar. He told the media that the authorities caught a family of four, Liaqat, his son Safiullah, wife and daughter bringing a bag full of mosquitoes into the hospital with the help of CCTV cameras. They were very happy that they caught them before the culprits were able to release the mosquitoes in the hospital. The offenders were latter interrogated about their actions. They revealed that they were paid good money to smuggle the bag in the hospital located in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhua – Peshawar – and start the epidemic. The revelations come right out of a scary movie or a scary novel !
The family belonged to the Pishtakhara Village and were poor. They said that they needed the money so they agreed to become the transporter. They did not know who was paying them. Mosquitos in bag. How did they collect them in the first place
Experts say that this was an attempt to undermine KP government’s healthcare efforts. The ones behind this incident don’t find it beneath them to play with people’s lives for political gains. The atmosphere in most of the province isn’t ideal for the growth of dengue mosquitoes and its entirely possible – considering the latest evidence – that the infectious mosquitoes were smuggled into the province. The family was set free after being issued a warning.
This time the culprits were caught but there is no saying as to how many times they must have succeeded and fueled the epidemic which was already taking many lives. It is also possible that it was a heinous political ploy from the start. Regardless, there should be more investigation over this matter and a more severe punishment for the culprits. Before the "theory" is dismissed entirely, it would be worthy to note that a full fledged insurgency / anti - terrorism operation is currently in operating in the FATA Agency of KP Province . The Peshawar suburb of Hayatabad if fairly close to the Agency !

A recent interview of Pakistan’s foreign minister, Khawaja Asif, followed by his press conference on the conclusion of the envoy’s conference in Islamabad, has once again provoked a flurry of rather naïve analysis that Pakistan might have finally realised the untenability of its policy of using jihadist terrorism as an instrument of state policy. Asif was very candid in admitting that Pakistan was getting globally isolated because of its image of being involved in terrorism and accepted that the Pakistani state needed to do something about Islamist terror groups like the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. He disclosed that Pakistan’s friends, including the ‘Iron Brother’ China, had often pointed out that Pakistan needed to act against jihadists operating with impunity in the country. He was very emphatic that Pakistan needed to put its house in order and get rid of the jihadist baggage that it had been carrying for over four decades. But, he said, if Pakistan continued to turn a blind eye to activities of terrorist organisations based in Pakistan, then facing diplomatic embarrassment would be unavoidable. He expressed the view that unless Pakistan confessed to its sins of the past, it wouldn’t be able to convince the international community of its bona fides in the present.
All sounds very revolutionary, doesn’t it? Makes everyone want to believe that the Pakistanis have finally woken up and smelled the coffee, right? Well, before anybody buys into the snake oil Asif is selling, remember this isn't the first time someone has said this in Pakistan. In fact, this is precisely the sort of stuff that Pakistanis say when they feel that the heat is getting too much and too close for comfort – the Trump South Asia policy followed by the BRICS declaration naming and shaming Pakistan-based terror groups. Since 9/11, this is a fairly routine sort of tactic used by Pakistani officials, politicians, even generals. Needless to say, these kinds of statements have proved to be completely empty and except for some eyewash of an action, the jihad factory, especially the one operated and franchised by the Pakistani state, has pretty much continued to operate unmolested. And there is a good reason to believe that this time around, the trajectory of action will be no different than what it has been in the past.
Some indications of this are already visible. For example, Asif’s own ministry’s spokesman virtually repudiated what he said in his interview. His cabinet colleague, the defence minister, rejected the BRICS declaration and denied any terror safe havens in Pakistan. While both these guys could have been ignored, the man who cannot be ignored is the army chief. Anyone who knows Pakistan knows that no civilian’s word (especially on issues of foreign and security policy) have any worth whatsoever. The status and value of a Prime Minister or a foreign minister’s words is the same as that of a clerk in some government office when it comes to matters of national security. The civilians have neither any influence nor any control on these issues. The guys who do are the ones wearing a khaki uniform. Therefore, more than what Asif said, it is what the army chief, Gen Qamar Bajwa said, that is important, and what he said can be summed up as ‘old whine by new swine’. Basically, he repeated the same old line – world needs to acknowledge our sacrifices, work with us on terrorism, address our concerns (read get India out of Afghanistan), needs to ‘do more’, we have done more than anyone else in fighting terrorism, etc. etc.
Clearly, if Bajwa’s speech, which was made a day after Asif’s interview, is anything to go by, there will be very little, if anything, that will change in Pakistan’s love affair with jihadism. The question then is why Asif said what he did. There are three, maybe four, possible explanations: one, Pakistan has actually decided to cut its ties with jihadism; two, it is a sign of civil-military divide on the issue of Pakistan’s addiction to jihadism; three, Asif shot his mouth off and was indulging in a solo flight of fancy; and four, it is part of the standard operating procedure to deflect and deflate some of the pressure it might be facing. The first explanation is just too far-fetched to be taken seriously, even less so after Bajwa’s speech. The second possibility can be safely ruled out not only because of ad nauseam declarations that everyone is on the same page, but also because the civilians have very little political capital and even less courage to defy the military or take on the Pakistan army’s jihadist auxiliaries. The third possibility cannot be entirely ruled out but is unlikely because even a loudmouth like Asif knows the red lines that cannot be crossed. This leaves the fourth possibility, which is probably the most likely explanation for Asif’s remarks.
The trepidation caused in Pakistan by the Trump South Asia policy had to some extent been calmed by talk of closer alignment with not just all-weather friend China (which would give the money) but also new, budding ally Russia (which would give weapons). This, many Pakistani analysts wouldn’t tire boasting, would give Pakistan the necessary heft to indulge in a strategic defiance of the US. But the BRICS declaration badly rattled the Pakistanis. Suddenly it seemed that the very countries they were depending upon to cock a snook at the Americans were also telling them what the Americans were saying. Clearly, Pakistan needed to do something because the posture they had taken suddenly seemed to be unsustainable. Asif was scheduled to visit Beijing and Moscow, where he was supposed to get the backing of both these countries before he went to Washington to look at his US counterpart in the eye and tell him to lighten up or lose Pakistan. But after the BRICS declaration, the Pakistani plan of defiance crumbled and a different tack was required.
In a country where low cunning doubles up for high diplomacy, the Pakistanis quickly switched from defiance to deference and acceptance that there was a problem that needed to be addressed. A public acknowledgment by Pakistan’s foreign minister that there is a problem within Pakistan would be well received by his counterparts, not just in China, Russia, Tehran, but also in Washington. This mea culpa by a senior member of the Pakistan government (most countries tend to take these non-entities seriously) is bound to soften and disarm his interlocutors in other countries, which in turn will create space for Pakistan to wriggle out of the corner it finds itself pushed in. The Pakistanis will use this space to plead for more time to clean up the mess – after all, something that has been created over four decades cannot be ended overnight, right? The interlocutors – the Americans are notoriously gullible in this regard – will understand Pakistan's predicament and defer any punitive measures they might have been contemplating. The Pakistanis will then do a couple of sham actions to convince the international community that they are actually living up to their commitments. But in real terms, no material action will be taken.
What the Pakistanis will bank upon is time. A year or so could see massive changes and new challenges emerge. For example, if North Korea goes berserk, chances are the US might forget AfPak. Or if there is some major development in the Middle East or any other part of the world, the focus will shift from Pakistan. Once the attention shifts, the pressure will lift, as will the urgency to be seen to be doing something. At that stage, the Pakistanis can go back to doing what they had been doing viz. using jihadist terrorists as instruments of state policy. This then is the playbook of Asif and his khaki-clad puppeteers and given the sort of breathless excitement among clueless journalists in the mainstream media – they are so astoundingly foolish that some of them are actually finding merit in Bajwa’s speech and are asking Indian policy makers what they think of his offer to resolving Kashmir by political and diplomatic means (obviously they haven’t heard or read his speech in full) – it seems the Pakistanis will once again get away with their double-game and double-speak. The author appears to be correct in his conclusion. The new Paki PM in his recent meeting with VPOTUS Pence pitched for more time to be given to Pakistan to solve the US-Pakistan "misunderstanding" and it seems that the Americans have acceded to their request for more time
Instead of taking what any Pakistani says at face value, at least India, which has been fooled by Pakistani lies and duplicity for 70 years, should be realistic enough to judge Pakistanis not by what they say but by what they do. Any words spoken by any Pakistani is meaningless. What has meaning is verifiable action on the ground. Unless there is solid, verifiable, evidence of Pakistani action to dismantle the jihad factory, treat anything any Pakistani like Foreign Minister Asif or even a Pakistan Army general says with total scepticism, and even utter contempt.

Pakistan's short-range nuclear weapons to counter India's 'Cold Start' doctrine: Abbasi - PTI
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Wednesday his country has developed short-range nuclear weapons to counter the 'Cold Start' doctrine adopted by the Indian Army.
Abbasi was also assertive of Pakistan's nuclear arsenals being safe and secure.
"We have a very robust and secure command-and-control system over our strategic nuclear assets. Time has proved that it's a process that is very secure. It's a process that has complete civilian oversight through the NCA," Abbasi said in response to a question at the Council on Foreign Relations, a top American think-tank.
The Nuclear Command Authority (NCA) of Pakistan is the authority responsible for command, control and operational decisions regarding the country's nuclear arsenals.
"As far as tactical nuclear weapons (are concerned), we do not have any fielded tactical nuclear weapons. We have developed short-range nuclear weapons as a counter to the 'Cold Start' doctrine that India has developed. Again, those are in the same command-and-control authority that controls the other strategic weapons," he said.
Moderator David Sanger said Pakistan has the fastest growing nuclear arsenal in the world.
"There's no nuclear arsenal in the world that is growing faster. And there's no nuclear arsenal in the world, other than North Korea's, that tends to worry American more, because they worry about the safety of the arsenal. They worry about the command and control of the arsenal," Sanger said.
Abbasi said that the command-and-control systems they have in place are as secure as anybody else's in the world.
"The last 20 years are testament to that," Abbasi said in response to another question.
"So let there be no doubt that any extremist element or somebody like that can gain control of fissile material or a nuclear weapon. There is just no possibility of that. And it's time-tested, and it's a very secure system that has been put in place," he said.
"Pakistan is a responsible global citizen, and we've shown a responsibility on the ground with this huge war on terror that we've been fighting for the last 15 years," Abbasi said.
The Pakistan premier sought to dispel the notion surrounding the country's alleged inability to handle its nuclear programmes properly.
"We do have nuclear capability. There's no doubt about that. And we know how to handle nuclear waste. We had a nuclear program in the early '60s, one of the first countries in Asia to have a nuclear program. So if we've managed it for over 50-odd years, I think we can continue to manage it," he said.

Swiss ambassador be asked to leave Pakistan: Rabbani
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani said on Wednesday that the Swiss ambassador should be asked to leave because the latter’s country was allowing its soil to be used for terrorism in Pakistan. He asked the Foreign Office to expel the Swiss envoy from Pakistan, amidst thumping of desks by members from both sides of the aisle. What was happening in Geneva was a clear violation of the international law and the UN charter, he observed.Zahid Hamid informed the Senate that Pakistan’s mission in Geneva had observed last week that posters titled “Free Baluchistan” had been displayed in well-frequented areas of Geneva, sponsored by “Baluchistan House”. These included paper and digital posters as well as banners posted on public transport vehicles. The Baluchistan House is said to be an affiliate of the BLA.“The display of such publicity material is a serious violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity and of international law and the UN charter. In view of the connections which India maintains with Baloch separatist leaders, and the fact that a large amount of money has been spent, it is obvious that India is behind this campaign,” he said, adding that use of Swiss soil by terrorists and foreign-sponsored secessionists for nefarious designs against Pakistan was totally unacceptable. The law minister said the Swiss government had been asked to be alert about the presence of BLA terrorists or elements linked with such terrorists in Geneva. He said that in his second communication with the Swiss authorities he had asked them to immediately remove the posters and banners from public places and transport vehicles and prevent such recurrence in future.“This year’s poster campaign by the Baloch dissident elements is being conducted by the affiliates of a declared terrorist organisation. According to the UN Security Council’s resolutions, states are obligated to not support terrorists or their affiliates, associates or abettors. Allowing this campaign and use of Swiss land is not only an attack on Pakistan’s territorial integrity, but also a violation of the international law, UN charter and Security Council resolutions. As a country that hosts the UN headquarters it is Switzerland’s duty to ensure that nothing against the international law and UN charter is conducted on its territory,” he remarked. He pointed out that this was not the first time that such a thing had happened in Geneva. In March, a Pakistani Christian Association had placed banners in Geneva against the “violation of Christians’ rights in Pakistan”. An ordinary NGO could not have the means to do this, he said, adding that the matter had been raised with the Swiss authorities who said there was freedom of expression in the country and this was not in violation of the Swiss law.Mr Hamid said this time as well the Swiss authorities were taking no steps to get the posters removed. At this, Mr Rabbani said: “They are doing nothing. What are you doing? How can they allow use of their soil for exporting terrorism to Pakistan?”

Firstly, "ways that Pakistan could work with the United States and others" means that the US VP has told the Pakistani PM that he should either comply with the US plans or face the music. That's exactly the diplomatese of that statement. He has clearly spelt out the role that Pakistan is expected to play in Afghanistan.
Secondly, the mention of "others" here could only mean India. Pakistan openly admitted to raising with the VP about the 'enhanced role' being given to India in Afghanistan. And, we know the paranoia that Pakistan suffers from. US clearly talked about India.
Thirdly, "Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort" means that it faces tough measures from the US otherwise.
All this need not mean that the US actions would in some way alter Pakistan vis-a-vis India. IMO, that is not the US aim either. We should not find out later that what was meant by 'change in US this time for good' did only mean protecting US interests alone even more vigorously. That has always been the case and that shall remain so. To the extent, this 'tough talk' benefits India, we should take it and remain satisfied. For example, if our role in Afghanistan is more recognized and formalized and we become a regular fixture in all Afghan-related meetings, that would do justice to our historical & cultural affinity with Afghanistan and the investments we have sincerely made there since the 70s. The decision taken by the new US administration seems to be to follow the tightrope walk between India and Pakistan as usual but squeeze the latter really hard when it comes to transgressions against and deviations from US interests. I don't blame the US for that. If Pakistan relents, it will be business as usual between US & Pakistan. We should not make the mistake therefore that there is a change as far as India is concerned. Of course, India-US relations may develop on the issues of China, trade etc. which is a different matter. This will give the superficial impression of de-hyphenation and the elimination of zero-sum game, but that need not be the truth. The deep suspicion in Indian minds against the US will take much more than some cosmetic measures to melt away.

NAB Decides To "Tighten The Screws" On The Assets Of Ganja Family And His Main Henchman
Assets of Sharifs, Dar frozen
Assets of Sharifs, Dar frozen
ISLAMABAD/Lahore - The National Accountability Bureau has frozen assets of former premier Nawaz Sharif, his children, son-in-law and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, it was learnt on Wednesday.Letters were dispatched by the corruption watchdog to banks, excise department, deputy commissioners [of Islamabad and Lahore], and to Lahore Development Authority [LDA] and Capital Development Authority [CDA] to check any possible transference of properties, ( the palatial estate- with private zoo- at Jati Umra ) vehicles ( the BMWs ready for "gifting" ) and valuables (the gold bars and diamonds from Dubai and Londonistan ) .(All ready to be "auctioned off" to the highest bidder for back taxes owing.
IMO, this is all part of the pyschological warfare lodged against the Nawaz Sharif family )
Hours before the electronic media aired the news of Sharifs’ assets freeze late Wednesday, a NAB Lahore team visited the official residence of Dar to serve a notice - soon after the issuance of bailable arrest warrants for the minister, who is currently in London.NAB Spokesman Asim Ali Nawazish however rejected the impression that it was a ‘raid’. “NAB team has not raided the house of Ishaq Dar. They went only for delivering a court notice which they did as per law. Media is requested to avoid airing unverified news,” he said. ( otherwise PEMRA will be on their "case" right away !)
NAB is pursuing references against the former first family of Pakistan and Ishaq Dar under the orders of the Supreme Court ( which is itself under "orders" from the Deep State ) which disqualified Nawaz Sharif in a corruption probe earlier this year.
The bureau has filed three corruption references against Nawaz Sharif, his sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz and daughter Maryam and her husband Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar in the accountability courts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
All the members of Sharif family are in London to take care of Nawaz’s wife Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, who is receiving treatment for lymphoma - cancer of lymph nodes; so, it is unclear if they would appear on next hearing. The Sharifs could also choose to avoid the appearance, terming the process political victimisation as Nawaz had already called the court verdict against him to be the result of a conspiracy against him. Harassing the Sharif family at this critical juncture of their lives, will only earn enmity for the NAB. Did not the "beloved Awaam" of La-Whore show their affection for this First Family by casting their vote for the Begum
Earlier in the day, the accountability court issued bailable warrants for the minister on the request of NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzzafar for former’s failure to appear in the court.
A senior official of the bureau told The Nation that following the accountability court instructions, the NAB team headed by Investigation Officer Imran Dogar dropped the court summons at Dar’s residence in the Ministers Colony. The team had intimated the Secretariat Police beforehand, he added. Hope that the NAB is not following (indirect ) orders from Imran Khan's henchmen !

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is sitting disinterested and aloof. He is probably getting a dressing down, and is scared of what ISPR and the Media is going to do to him back home.
Going to the UN is an onerous task for the Pakistani Civilian Leadership.

2. ISPR, ISI and their pappus in the Media are baying for blood.
3. Pakistanis know they are unwanted and reviled internationally, they are out with a begging bowl.
ISPR due to H&D issues wants a Zordar DIfa from the Civilians outside. The Civilians are getting slapped around due to the terrorist sponsoring ways of the ISI and the Fauj. Then the Civilians have to beg for money to somehow run the country - knowing full well, that the Fauj will walk away with a huge chunk of the foreign money for their Aiyashi

( Lying ) Mush Now Accuses Zardari Of Murdering Benazir And Murtaza
Musharraf accuses Asif Zardari of murdering Benazir, Murtaza Bhutto
Musharraf accuses Asif Zardari of murdering Benazir, Murtaza Bhutto
DUBAI – Former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has blamed his successor Asif Ali Zardari for murdering Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Benazir Bhutto and her brother Murtaza.
In a series of video messages released on Thursday, the former president claimed that the one man who could be blamed for the killing of both PPP leaders could be the current co-chairman of PPP, Asif Ali Zardari.Musharraf stated that he kept mum over the recent verdict issued by a Rawalpindi court regarding Benazir murder case, in which two police officers were punished but as Zardari blamed him for the murder, he had to speak out. IMO, the Paki Fauj has now thrown the ( mojahir ) Kammundu to the wolves. To fend for himself ! It will be best for Mush to hitch his (politic ) wagon with Altaf Bhai- against the Pakjabi feudals and the Pakjabi fauj
“Only one individual was a beneficiary of Benazir’s murder and that was Asif Ali Zardari” Musharraf said while addressing the Bhutto family. Provocative statement !
He clarified that there was no doubt about the involvement of Baitullah Mehsud in the murder of slain PPP leader, however, it was needed to track out the one behind all the conspiracy. He maintained that Baitullah Mehsud was his rival who also attacked him for which the government wanted to eliminate him and so there was no possibility of him colluding with Mehsud.“How could I have an influence over Mehsud when I was against him?” the former president said and added that there was a possibility of Zardari’s links with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and influential Afghan officials that could have been used to hatch a conspiracy against Benazir Bhutto. The lying Mush is killing two birds ( 10% and Karzai - whom he "hates" !) ) with one stone
Pervez Musharraf also discussed the role of Security Incharge of Benazir, Khalid Shahanshah and noted that he was murdered in unusual circumstances days after the December 27 tragedy.
“Without a doubt, I am sure that if we dig deep into the details, we would track the murderer and that would be Asif Zardari,” added Musharraf.
He concluded his message by saying that if Bilawal, Bakthawar and Asifa would listen to his message with an open mind, they would be able to rationally understand it. His chances of returning back to Pakiland are almost zero . Therefore he is lashing out at Zardari and Bhutto family ! Fauj has made him the scapegoat !

Meet the Paki PM --
Ken Roth of the Human Rights Watch asked Abbasi during a session at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) think tank whether he as prime minister would speak out against the blasphemy law under which a Christian man was recently sentenced to death for a poem he sent on WhatsApp that was deemed blasphemous.
Abbasi replied: "The laws in the country are very clear, and it’s only up to the parliament to amend the laws. The job of the government is to make sure that the laws are not abused and innocent people are not prosecuted or prosecuted."
When stressed by the moderator that the prime minister could still speak out on the issue, Abbasi said: "Well, as I said, the law is there. The law is in place. The law is in force. The courts can comment on the law. But until it’s in — it’s in force, it’s the job of the government to enforce the law."
